I thought it was a hard course as a freshman. He tought it fairly well though.
Very helpful with questions and exam topics. A firm but fair prof.
One of the best professors UF has to offer. Fair, entertaining, and helpful.
hard class, but gives you the material, student helpers to assist.
DENSLOW FOR PRESIDENT!
I had him over 7 years ago and he's still the best I've ever had
I did not like that he had us teach ourselves facts by the practice exams
He was GRRREAT
Worst class ever (had to take it twice just to get a C). Denslow is awesome but a class of over 2000 sucks!
Excellent teacher
Dr Denslow kicks ass
I could not understand a word that was coming out of his mouth, but he knew his stuff.
He is a great teacher- but he is extremely fast. Make sure u do all the practice problems!
I studied 3 days before the tests and I got an A, it was a minimal effort honestly except for the 3 day routine.
An overall great teacher.
Real smart, real good teacher. A little hard, but he's great.
Awesome teacher....The class is a little tough, you gotta study, but great teacher! I would definitely take his class again!

Difficult but good
Dr. Denslow is the smartest man alive. This is a class EVERYONE at UF should be required to take. Awesome class!
this is a really hard class but to be honest all you have to do is read all of the d+ notes and do all the practice questions and you'll do just fine. the less clases i watched the higher my grades got.
Subtly funny, he teaches really tough material that I didn't always understand...but his tests are curved a lot to make up for it. Take this class AFTER ECO 2023 to make it much easier.
I love him, he is a great teacher...but the course is hard, so you have to study. much better than Eco2013
Dr. Denslow is the smartest guy alive. This class is really hard to study. DO THE PRACTICE QUESTIONS !!!!! that helps a lot.
the directors funny the first few times but watching the lectures doesnt prepare you for the tests at all so dont bother wasting your time. just buy the notes from university copy STUDY THEM A LOT dont waste your $ buying the text book youll never open it
overrated wind bag, unclear and unhelpful, exams that test less of what you know and more of what tricks he can play on you look out
Class is pretty difficult. Lots of Material. Denslow talks a mile a minute and it is hard to keep up with him. Take this class after ECO 2023, you'll thank me! STAY ON TOP OF THINGS! DON:T FALL BEHIND
Boring, talks way too fast, and his lectures are memorized from years of teaching, hence monotonous. Forget the book, it's got the same info as the lectures. But keep taking the sample tests, that's the only way I passed.
Concepts might be challenging to master. Dr. Denslow is VERY smart, sometimes its hard to follow his thoughts. After eight courses with a 4.0, this was my first B. Study ahead of time and do the practice questions!!!
GREAT
very hard...i thought...he's a very good teacher tho...very smart...too smart for me ^_^
Brilliant man. Terrible teacher.
do the practice questions... the tests are horrible
Tough class, take ECO2023 first.
This course is unbelievably esay. His tests are almost entirely exact quotes from his class. The practice questions are half of the test, so do them all and that should be a guaranteed 50%. If you have common sense and algebra 1, this class is easy.
The problem with Denslow is he reuses tons of exam questions so his tests rarely correlate with his lectures. You have to memorize tons and tons of the old exams questions being theyd be impossible otherwise. Denslow lives to fool you so keep that in mind
Watching lectures is pointless. I feel like no matter how much I study, there are still questions on the test that I've never even heard of before. I wouldn't recommend you take this class unless you have to!

HORRIBLE CLASS...LECTURES=WASTE OF TIME, DONT EVEN REFLECT MORE THAN 50% OF THE TESTS! SUPER HARD AND REQUIRES CRITICAL THINKING AND COMBINING CONCEPTS... HE WILL NEVER TEACH YOU HOW TO DO THIS. REQUIRES ALOT!
I got a C+, and thats with studying alot, but very little lecture time. It's a big class so don't expect help. Old exams most important thing. Nice funny guy though, so hard to hate, even if the tests are super hard.
Ummm where does he get the questions from on his exams??? not his lectures
The class is too big and taught by video. The math is wrong - the formulas and graphs don't agree with each other. If he understood economics he'd run a company, not teach.
The course covers vast amounts of information in far too short a time.He will teach you 3different models then on the test not specify which one to use thus it is very confusing. Denslow is useless as a tech but as a person he is quite likeable and funny
Denslow is absolutely brilliant. An A is easy to make if you do ALL of the practice problems he gives you. He is very respected in his field by both the university and the government. Lectures + Practice Problems = an A in his class.
50% of the tests come straight from the practice problems. do them all, and watch lectures, and you'll get an easy A. the lectures are online, and relatively interesting, so its not hard to keep up. denslows a good teacher - nice, funny, and smart.
Just another Keynesian. Get your C and move on. This guy worked for Jimmy Carter. Nuff said.
If you do the practice questions and watch the lectures, getting an A without having to take the final is simple.
This course was very tough. The test questions seem to have no relation to what is covered in lecture.
Do the practice questions, watch class, and throw your book out the window! Passing this class is very doable... maybe consider taking micro first?

I watched the lectures and got a B.
Too many students to be effective.
So thrilling, so exciting, so full of jocularity that I watched the video replays even when I wasn't taking the course.
Denslow is a funny guy. Good teacher, wrongfully criticized on this site.
He talks so fast, so it is a good thing that you have video replay. Funny, but just fast
Good teacher, the key to success is to do a lot of practice problems, they are very similar to the test questions.
This teacher is just SO SMART that it's hard to understand what he's talking about. He doesnt teach on an intro level. But if you do the practice problems you should be okay.
he's the man.
Do not slack off! It's pain in da a$$ to watch ten 50 min long lectures in one day!! Do ALL the practice questions!! Take the test on friday!!
If you can't get an A in this intro course, that's just pathetic. And sure enough, most people don't get A's. If you have a brain, you'll do fine. Denslow is great.
The topics are interesting, and I personally like the jokes. This was an awesome class. It's kinda hard, but it's worth it. It's really fun
He is an extremely intellectual individual that trys way too hard to be unny sometimes. B/c he's so smart he has a very difficult time relating the information to an intro level student. The best way to deal with this class is review he material before you go to lecture. Tests are Hard!
Denslow is a very difficult teacher. He talks so fast and moves through material very quickly also. His tests are quite difficult and there are many questions on there that don't even pertain to what we learned in class.
Very HARD Tests and I even consulted other professors and they said they he IS really hard. There are concepts that just aren't clear enough. It is as though he is in an ECO world and expects for you to understand everything he is saying. He is nice, but a Hard Test Giver!

Very nice and upbeat man. Lots of info he covers very very fast. Do the practice questions and you will atleast make C's!
I cried every day because of this class. It made my life hell.
Denslow's jokes are so bad, they are funny. this guy was a good professor, but it's just too bad economics is so deathly boring. go to the live lectures, and study for the tests and you should be fine. my c+ didnt reflect what i should have gotten had i worked harder. Denslow needs a raise.
He doesn't deserve the bad rap he gets. Definitely a good teacher and a genuinely nice person. Studying the practice questions and course book makes tests insanely easy. He may try to get people to go to the lectures, but that doesn't mean that you should--TV or Internet replay are just fine.

I took this class ten years ago. Doesn't matter, its the same class. I really didn't think it was so hard. Go to class every day. Read the book. Do the practice tests. It's last year's test, so you will be seeing almost exactly the same thing. The Denz is a near-genius and a nice guy.
One of the best teachers I've ever had! Makes the info. so interesting! He's so funny! Might be challenging if you're not interested in the info. Do ALL the practice questions. The late tests are often helpful and are not harder than the regular ones.
The class is easy as can be, although maybe not if you suck at math. There's no real math here, but some people seemed to have trouble applying some very simple logical concepts, so maybe that would help. The online lectures aren't too exciting, but his antics, though corny, make them tolerable.
Just read the book and do the practice questions. It's very easy.
Excellent teacher. May be to conceptual for the complainers. You actually have to think! Oh No!
The class is not very hard except the 4th test is very difficult, denslows difficulty is overrated, do the practice problems and you will be gine, the class is boring as can be though, he has no sense of humor.
Watched about a third of the lectures, went to ****, did all the practice questions and got an A. Its really not that bad.
This is my least favorite class at UF so far. Took Fall 04. Made me change from Finance to Journalism. Tests very difficult: no matter how much I studied and did practice problems I couldn't do well. Got a C in the class. He moves very fast-sometimes unclear. Assumes he is understood. Seek help ASAP
He is a nice and BUSY old man. It's just that on the tests, he just expects you to expand those concepts learned in class. That's what makes the tests hard. But go to class, do the questions, and think a little, then you'll do fine.
He is a very funny and enthusiastic guy. I did find his tests hard because you can't just study equations and memorize practice questions, you do have to actually fully understand the concepts to do well on the tests, but he's a good teacher because he makes you learn the concepts to get an A
I'm not going to lie, you have to study for this class, and freshmen out there don't listen to your preview staffers that tell you to take it before micro eco2023. Take micro first. Denslows fast past, because he's a freakn genius! and he knows what he's talking about He's too cute.Study, i got an A
Very smart guy, knows his stuff really well. The class isn't easy but as long as you do the practice problems and stay on top of the lectures, an A is very doable. I like economics so to me the info was interesting. Might be borin if not into economics, though. Denslow's a genius and he's very funny
class isn't too bad if you actually go, or watch the lectures online. Extra credit is your best friend so take the early tests.
denslow is a great guy and he's funny, but his tests blow. rush is way easier
Take MICRO first! he relies on that you have had rush. He is very sarcastic and not very interesting. Tests are hard! Go to **** and do the practice questions. RUSH is better
He's so smart its crazy.
Dave Denslow is absolutely brilliant.
Nice man. Do practie exams and buy the Smokin' Notes. They do wonders. Also, go to ****. That helps a whole lot. I would have failed if it wasn't for SN and TZ.
All you got to do is do the practice exams and you are set.
Denlow's tests freakin blow! He's a genius, and expects you to think like one too on the exams. Definitely do TZ and SN...they saved my life...and my scholarships.
His explanations were confusing. I feel like he flaunted his education instead of giving his students a good education.

HARD ASS CLASS

Pretty hard. He lectures too fast and doesn't really explain as much as he should. I recommend taking ECO2023 with Rush first!
If you like economics, I guess you'll like him. He was too confusing for me. Tried very hard to be funny, but failed miserably. I dropped the class.
Are you kidding me? Seems like only people who whine are the ones who bother to comment on myspace. There is a reason why his course is the among the most enrolled and why he is the university's highest paid professor. There isn't a reason why you can't score an A in his class. He will go out of his way to tutor you (even personally) if you require it - for free too! An incredibly nice man, and one of the smartest economic minds out there - (former chief economic advisor to the Reagan administration.)
Very enthusiastic and intelligent. His dry sense of humor really kills me.

EASY!!! I never studied more than the night before an exam and barely missed a question. Tests are very routine and VERY VERY VERY predictable, has little depth but alot of breadth.
this class is hard. he speaks way too fast. i wish i listened to my academic advisor when she said to take microeconomics first.
Very funny guy. I still watch the lectures on TV now and then and I took the class 5 years ago. Used to be the faster chalkboard print writer i've ever seen. He's slowed down a little over the years.
Hard class because online lectures do not provide that much help.
The class was hard, but I found the material interesting and Denslow to be fairly clear. It required more thought than many a class, but not that much more
honestly i just watched the lectures and then strudied 3-4 hours just night before the test and got low range A. i think if u take micro it might be easier but overall an average class.
The lectures are not bad to watch but his tests suck. The questions are very tricky and it is very easy to misinterpret the question.
One of the best professors at UF. He's extremely helpful, knows his stuff, and has easy to understand lectures to go with a well done course pack. Do the practice tests and you'll have an easy A on all the exams, that combined with his very generous curves and extra credit makes for an easy A in this class.
Personally I didn't think Denslow was clear at all, he jumped around from topic to topic and you had no idea what he was talking about half the time. I took Micro before and it helped me a little, but not much. I managed to an A in the class, but only because I taught myself everything. Makre sure you do the practice questions!
Not an easy class but very interesting. Professor Denslow is a great very nice guy but is one of those people that knows too much for his own good and can be a little over your head. He himself is not the most accessible but has great TA's that are willing to help. A "B" in the class is very doable just do the practice questions and study.
Dr Denslow is helpful and knows his stuff. He is rough though, MUST do practice questions and know concepts. His test questions are involve more application and less straight facts. Curves are good, 3 pts EC just for showing up to class. Funny guy too, likes to duke it out with the director.
Great Curves on the tests!!!
Dr Denslow is helpful and knows his stuff. He is rough though, MUST do practice questions and know concepts. His test questions involve more application and less straight facts. Curves are good, 3 pts EC just for showing up to 1st 2nd tests on same day. Funny guy too, likes to duke it out with the director
Went to class during the beginning...didn't understand a thing Dr. Denslow was talking about. Smokin Notes and the CURVES helped...got an "A"! Just make sure to do the practice questions and actually understanding the material HELPS!!
Watch the lectures. Buy the Smokin' Notes. Do the practice questions. Follow these three simple instructions and you'll end up with an A.
My favorite class during my first semester at UF. Denslow is an expert in his subject and is a very entertaining lecturer; plus, he GIVES YOU half of the test questions, and adds to this one of the most liberal curves I've ever seen (he curved the 4th exam to an 80!!!) Getting an A in his class is a piece of cake with minimal effort.
Good instructor, extremely smart guy but still down to earth and willing to help with questions if you stop in his office. You'll learn a lot in his class. Do the practice problems & watch the lectures, and you'll end up with an easy A.
Very smart. Moves quickly, so make sure to watch every lecture. If you watch the lectures, do the assigned readings, and the practice questions all of the ideas should click!
Excellent!!
Fun class, made an econ major out of me. Do the practice questions.
Class is absolutely ridiculous. Intro class. Rather than just sticking to the basic he'll do in depth examples for one country or other body. You are expected to know all numbers said in lecture for the test, for example, the GDP of Rwanda in 1934.
You'll have to work for an A, but it is definitely obtainable. Do all the practice problems and use the lectures as a supplement. Also, take ECO2023 first, because it is easier.
If you ever have the chance to take a small sized (<30 people) Denslow Class, DO IT. He is hilarious, and a great teacher. You are expected to learn and understand the material, but he grades very easily. (E.G. test question one for 40% is write your name). Great class, funny/smart guy, take it.
class isn't that bad. watch lectures and do ALL practice problems before test. take micro before this class. his weekly reviews also help if you have any questions.
It seems that the students who do well in this class are mostly those who have taken Micro first, keep this in mind. He does like to make his tests hard and ask about random specific facts that are really irrelavent. memorize all of the practice questions for each test.
Great class. Guy really knows his stuff. Just do the practice questions and you've already seen half of the tests. By the way, you can't buy better comedy than Dave and The Director with their witty banter to and fro.
I really liked Denslow. The test curves are great and really help. You really learn a lot in the class and he is a lot of fun. I would recommend taking Rush's class first, though. It will help you with this class.
Dr. Denslow is the man and he's hilarious, too. By far funnier than the director.
Denslow taught Urban Econ in Spring '06, and it was the single greatest course that I've ever taken at UF. Denslow is not only brilliant but an excellent teacher of the material. Grading was laid-back, but lectures moved very quickly. At the end of each class, my brain would be so full of knowledge that I would get headaches. It was awesome.
Greatest class at UF!
I took ECO2013 with Denslow in Fall 2005. Other than having to memorize annoying statistics, his class is fairly easy. If you watch the lectures and buy the SmokinNotes, you will do fine.
denslow is really cool and knows damn near everything about economics!! class is interesting but certainly harder than rush's microeconomics course!
Not a good teacher at all. hes all over the place
Awesome guy, easily tops my list of favorite professors. I had my second semester with him and went out of my way to get into his newest class for a third. He's very funny and makes even boring topics very interesting. If you get the opportunity to take a small class of his, jump through hoops to get it. You will not regret it.
He's a good teacher and pretty funny if you watch the lectures. I got a B+ just by using smoking notes review packets because I stopped watching lectures after the first test. Lots of material, but all you have to do is the practice questions in the coursepacket to do well because at least 50% of every test comes directly from it.
He is very smart and sometimes forgets that this is an introductory course. But all in all he is a good professor with alot to offer. Be sure to study all of the practice questions, and watch the lectures. His test DO cover exactly what he says in lectures... Good luck!
Half the test is easy since its from the course pack, the other half watch all the lectures and make sure to remember what he mentions outside the course notes. Easier to take notes without course pack since he bounces around. Really big curves, take the monday tests for 3 bonus points and its easy to get a B+ or A
For some reason I could never get higher than a C on his test. Every guy I know got an A so easily. I must no understand Economics. I don't think this class is easy. Good thing is he has a cheap coursepacket. Spends too much time goofing off. Boring. Was lost half the time.
Anyone that gripes about Denslow is just too lazy to open up the course pack and study. He's a great professor, you just need to put in the work. An A is more than possible. Those that don't get them are lazy.
If you have problems, the TA's are available almost every day in Dr. Denslow's office. E-mail them and they'll let you know when somebody will be there.
He speaks too fast. I always went to class and sat in the frint and I still managed to get a C. Sure half of his tests are based on practice problems, but when there are literally over two hundred practice problems, your life becomes ECO2013. His test questions were ridiculous. Although he is a nice, quirky man his class is definitely tough.
He talks like he hasn't had anyone to talk to for five years. Not only he talks fast as hell, but also he gets off topic and confuses everyone. True, I liked the course pack, but remember, the other half is from the lectures. some unimportant "stuff" was on the test just because he mentioned it for like half a second.
The professor knows what he is talking about. However, he has a hard time teaching it. He talks fast, and humerously tells information that he puts on the test. TESTS ARE HARD!!
He's a genious. One of those professors who knows everything about the subject but has a hard time explaining it to students. Sometimes gets carried away with examples and gets off topic. Talks very fast and exams are on practice problems and lectures. Hard tests so you need to study at least a couple hours. Good luck!
he has questions on the test that he never went over!!!
not that difficult of a class to take. you don't really need to go to class as long as you read the course pack, buy smokin notes, and know all the practice questions.
The class is both educational and, at times, entertaining. Most people end up slacking and either watch the lectures online or buy Smokin' Notes. If you go to class, read the course packet, and do the practice questions, you should do fine in the class.
Denslow is an AMAZING man. He was the chief economic advisor of Calvin Coolidge. Class was easy, entertaining, and most importantly informative. You wont regret this one!
I graduated 20 years ago this summer and I still think of his class as the best I ever took. I hope he's still as interesting today. I had to work my buns off to get a B+ and was an A student, but was a journalism student. Except for High-School typing class, it's the only one I ever learned anything useful in.
Denslow's class was very interesting and he was a good teacher.
Easiest class ever. Coursepack is the only thing you should need for this course.
He is a funny laid back sweet man who makes economics interesting. The class is easy; as long as you memorize the course pack you are gaurenteed an A. Make sure to watch the lectures too. They're fun.
Be sure to watch lectures and read coursepack: easy A if you do. Be sure to allow a couple hours a couple of days before the tests to do the myriad of practice questions, and you should be fine! Lectures are fairly entertaining with his quick-wit.
RUSH OWNS
macroeconomics is not a hard class if you put the time into it. buy the coursepack (only like $25) and watch the lectures, which denslow makes enjoyable. the most important thing to do is to do ALL the practice problems which can be time consuming (and if your still not sure you understand the material, buy the smokin notes).
This is one complicated man, you never really can predict whats going to be on his tests!!
I prefer Rush, but Denslow is truly a brilliant man/professor. Although he tends be unclear during lectures you could easily refer to the course pack or ask for help. His tests are impossible (i mean, the guy was educated AND taught @ Yale) but he compensates by giving huge curves. DO the practice questions and see the lectures. You should be fine.
He loves his Economics! Very enthusiastic about the subject. Tests are tricky (but not hard). Study and understand the concepts. Try to do the Selected Readings, as you'll find they are just like easy points on tests. Absolutely do not use Smokin Notes as an alternative. At the absolute very least you should watch lectures and do practice questions
The tests do have some tricky wording on them, but that really is to be expected. And even then, there are usually 10-13 point curves on the tests. Make sure you CAREFULLY watch the lectures; pause and take down detailed notes. Use the course pack's practice questions; they are usually covered heavily on the tests.
i didn't watch all the lectures and just got the smokin' notes for every test and still did okay. Probably could've gotten an A if i'd watched all lectures and studied a little harder.
never watched a lecture but I did go to **** and do all the practice questions and i got a B
If you don't Ace this class then you just aren't trying......watch the lectures and do the practice questions and his tests are cake.
pretty easy. i watched the lectures the day before the tests and did good.
A wonderful teacher. But would reccomend taking Rush's ECO2023 before Denslow - it will help you understand his material better. Definitely watch the lectures carefully and go over the course packet.
Denslow makes Macro fun, tests are based off a mixture of practice problems and his lectures. He references things in his lectures that are on the test and not in the book. If you have the dedication to sit down and watch the lectures he makes them worth your time. Do ALL the practice problems 50% of tests are directly from them
Honestly, the best professor I've had since school started. I LOVE HIM!!!!!!! He's always smiling, and I bet he is a nice guy. He's so funny. LOVE HIS CLASS.
He is a GREAT teacher!! You have to know the basics going into the class but he is a MUCH better teacher than Rush and he gives you a chance to counterbalance your grade with a makeup exam if you do not do well on one.
This class is VERY DIFFICULT. I would study my butt off doing all the practice questions and I'd barely break a 70 on his tests. A lot of people may find this class easy/entertaining, but for me it was hell. Don't take it unless you've done macro or really into economics. Never could follow his lectures, he talks at hummingbird speed. STUDY HARD!
This class is much harder than Microeconomics. Be prepared to study for several hours before an exam and still get a poor grade.
This teacher was not very clear on what he was going to test you on. Disregard his hints to tests, because even when he says certain things won't be on the test, he puts it on there anyway. It's too bad he's the only macro teacher because he isn't a good teacher at all. Honestly I love economics but after taking this class, i have come to hate it.
The class is decent. Just read his course book and make sure you do ALL the practice questions. i got a b+ wihtout much studying
I'm pretty sure he thinks of ways to make his tests as confusing and difficult as possible. The average grade on the final exam was a 60.
My lowest grade in my college career. Test questions almost always involve 2 parts and I can never seem to get both parts correct. I honestly didn't learn a thing. Lectures weren't too bad, take lots of notes especially when he gives specific examples and do practice quizzes. Definitely a smart guy, he was Nixon's economic advisor.
Denslow is a great teacher and very knowledgeable. In order to do well in this class go to TZ. And do all of his practice questions. Make sure you know the concepts, do not memorize.
Content taught in class was often different from content students were tested on. Plenty of smokin' notes, though. this is a general class that is helpful for building understanding in economics.
Excellent class - very useful whether or not you're majoring in business; the concepts presented in class are all linked to current issues in economics. His tests are challenging, but the curves are usually ten points or more, and he gives three bonus points for taking the test on the day it's given (rather than a makeup). Great class, great prof.
hard tests! the final was ridiculous! big curves are life savers.
Heres how i got an A in the class (with the curves).. 1st: watched class 2nd: went to TZ 3rd: read smokin notes over & over 4th: used someones old course book from previous semester and did the practice problems 5th: did the TZ practice test 6th: found old tests and did them until i memorized everything...class takes A LOT of work if u want an A
Class is very hard, not because of the content but because of the pace that Denslow teaches and the amount of topics he covers. Be grateful for the curves you will need them. Get Smoking Notes, go to tutoring zone, do the practice questions, old exams. Practice and time management is key. It is impossible to cram for this course. Hard but good.
If you are a first year student DO NOT take this class your first semester. It is overwhelming. It is never clear what to study for the tests, and just watching the lectures, smoking notes, and reading the required material will only get you a 50% on the tests. Save yourself the trouble, take it at another school!
I took this class my first semester of my freshman year. It requires alot of work. I've seen it eat people alive. There r tons of different ways to do well in this class. I had to attend the live lectures and watch the classes online and take detailed notes. I didn't do TZ, neither buy Smokin Notes. Do that if you feel absolutely hopeless
He's rather slow, so he had to rush to cover some topics before the tests. He's also skipped some topics frequently because of the pace he teaches. Uses lots of sarcasm. Curves are a lifesaver.
So funny! Test are challenging, but not impossible. Stay up with lectures of course and try to go to reviews.
I got an A in the class. However, in order to do so, it basically requires around fifteen hours of studying or so, and for the final probably more. USE SMOKIN' NOTES, and possible tutoring zone. For the final, I finally found out that it was useful to look over old tests, and I got a 97 with the curve on it. Challenging class.
Use smokin' notes. without them, I got an 85,83,77 on my first 3 tests. the next 3 (with smokin notes) I got a 98,108 and 97, 97 being the final. unless you take VERY VERY good notes, just pay for the smokin' notes -- just a suggestion.
Very nice and fair guy. Knows his economics, great class.
SMOKING NOTES!!! Give yourself 2 full days with them if you want an A. Hardest tests are in the begining. Make-up test is helpful. Use the TA's to understand difficult concepts and applications. Don't underestimate this class. Denslow is a good guy overall.
The class is very time consuming and challenging. Make sure you have time to watch the lectures. Do not take Macro if you already have a full work load because you have to watch the lectures to do well. You NEED to know formulas.
Not an easy class but absouletly worth it!! He teaches economics through real life examples. The material learned is useful and interesting. Take this class if you have any intreset in economics or business.
Wasn't very helpful when I went to him for advice. Doesn't check his email very often. Lectures are boring but his sense of humor is the only thing that makes them bareable.
This class isnt too hard if u watch ALL the lectures carefully and study very hard, otherwise you'll fail. TZ Helps but you wont an A on the exam. On the positive side, he's very nice and calm.
Apparently he's changed the structure of the course since previous semesters. He teaches less about concepts and more about actual events and how economics plays into it. Tests are difficult and he does try to trick you on many questions. Lectures are funny and (as with any online course) I recommend that you watch him on double speed.
Easy and fun class. I'm not sure why everyone says it's hard. I took it in my first semester and got an A without TZ or any of that, with minimal studying. The readings are really interesting and the lectures are fun to watch. I'm glad I didn't skip out with AP Macro!
Denslow is a very nice guy, but his class is a) boring b) extremely hard to follow c)overly hard for being a freshman required business course. From what it seems like, I believe its getting harder too, he has recently changed the format of his class to focus on topics. Either way, get SMOKIN NOTES! and hit up that TZ if you want to pass
Good professor. Sometimes a doesn't make things clear enough but overall definitely knows what he's talking about. Tests are not easy but if you study the materical you can do well. Be sure to learn what he likes to put onn his tests.
Denslow is incredible intelligent, but sometimes that makes him hard to follow if you aren't one of those people who don't have to try for an A. You won't die. Study hard. SMOKIN NOTES.
Dr. Denslow seems like a great person outside the classroom. He is extremely intelligent. His teaching style is not necessarily bad, as most people put it. It's just different from the usual teaching styles that freshmen have had previously. I got an A but had to work hard for it. Not an easy class. Get smokin' notes AND watch lectures.
One of the hardest classes ive ever taken, the exact opposite of micro with rush. lectures are pretty interesting, denslow is a pretty funny guy and knows his stuff but the tests are REDICULUS! study smokin notes and keep up with lectures, i got a B by .1%
Nice guy. Intelligent professor: he knows what he's talking about and has economic experience. However, the class is very hard, and has gotten harder this semester from what I know concerning past semesters. Best to take this class as non-degree seek elsewhere if you can, if you want a high grade without ridiculous commitment at least.
Some get it great, some just don't. You have to get used to his style. He's brilliant, but you have to be quick to catch him. He goes on many tangents and it's difficult to piece him together at times, but I even though i didn't get the A, I still feel so much better off about my knowledge about the world. thanks Dr.D.
This class was easy. Don't really need to watch lectures...some tricky questions on the test, but mostly straight forward.
Don't watch lectures...Tests are hard because he likes go on ridiculous tangents.
Denslow is extremely knowledgable, I thought it was a great class to take with the current events at hand. I never took Micro and still managed to get a decent grade in the class (B+). Do watch the lectures, even if you dont follow what he says, he's still interesting to listen to. Also, sparknotes organized the material well for the exams.
This class is HARD!!! Whatever you do, do not take this as a FRESHMAN!!!! The guy is funny but his lecture simply has nothing to do with his tests. Tests are very tricky...proceed with caution.
The last person to comment is a dumb idiot. Denslow is the man. Denslow for president. Watch lectures, concepts in class are all tested
Do you want a great grade? Do you want a stress-less semester? Do you want a great GPA? If so, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS DURING SUMMER A/B!! I've never studied so hard and did so poorly!! Luckily it isn't part of my major or else I'd be forced to do something crazy!! Denslow is a pretty intelligent economist but he expects the same from you too!!!!!!!
Took this summer A and it was EXTREMELY INTENSE! Ended up with a B thanks to getting an A on the final. Very challenging class regardless of semester. Study for a good few hours(5-8) 3-5 days before exams and if you have any questions post them on the discussion page. Tz is kinda useless for this class (very rare but true for this course) as Smo
Easiest class I took and enjoyable. Econimics is a likeable subject. Dr. Denslow is entertaining (I watched lectures on double speed). You are allowed to take a make up an exam even. Exam 3 was hard and I never managed above an 80. Other exams I got in the 90s after the curve.Have to study, A is doable if u understand concepts! Read Smoking Notes!
I just want to say you people below should be kind to your peers.. Mr./Ms. I like calling people dumb idiots. The class was harder for some of my friends than others.
made eco fun and a great experience too
This is what a class at Harvard is like. Dude's brilliant. Hark work but totally worth it. You will turn on the TV and actually know what they're talking about on the news about the Economy! Don't miss lectures, they're great. Do practice problems. Take the evening exam, so you can get and go over the morning exam.
Nicest, smartest teacher I've had at UF! Tests can be tricky, esp during summer semesters when all the material is crammed. However, he gives great curves which make getting an A totally doable! Make sure to read the assigned packets b/c some tests will be 25% pure facts from the readings. Also do old practice tests...probably the biggest help =).
Best professor I've had at UF by a long shot. Pay close attention to what he says and take lots of notes. Unlike in other coures, Tutoring Zone should only be used to reinforce the material and not to actually learn the info. If you want an A then doing the old exams are a must. Aglets for life!!!
Denslow is a good professor! However, the material is very hard and the equations may be confusing to some; so study hard from the 1st day of class. Attending TZ will not get you an A. You actually have to look at the material first and use TZ as a reinforcement. Good Luck!
GOTTA LOVE HIS CURVES. okay teacher, hard material, but he gives great curves, so the grade is generally fine.
Watch the lectures, read the articles (one test had almost 10 questions from them!), and buy the smokin notes to review! Lectures are fun to watch b/c he knows exactly what's going on in the economy right now. people say it's easy but obv tons fail if he gives 13 point curves! I suggest taking ECO2023 first b/c it preps you for this class =)
Great professor. He can get ahead of himself at times but that is just a result of how excited he is about the subject. If you have any interest in economics you'll love this class, despite the difficulty it entails. You'll be surprised how much you learn. Make sure you take Micro first, and Smokin' Notes really simplifies things. Not so bad really
i think he does a great job
Anyone at all interested in economics will love watching his online lectures. It is obvious how much he knows about the subject and he does a good job of making it seem pretty simple. If you put in the work, a good grade is attainable and you will be surprised how much you can pick up in a semester.
Seems like a great guy, but if you are not interested at all in economics, this class is HARD! especially for incoming freshman. TUTORING ZONE was a huge help and he gives great curves, but the key is to be interested in the material. Its hard to learn about something you dont care about. Really smart guy!
very difficult and not very clear but if you take it summer he omits a lot of material
Best class I had at Florida -- 20 years ago. Glad to see he is still going strong. I almost ended up an ECONOMICS major. Glad I didn't.
Very charismatic professor that loves economics. Regardless, he provided no text book and thus took away your ability to study at the freedom of your will. This class is harder than it needs to be (i ended up w/ a B). But, yes, its true, he is brilliant, but i did not take the class to learn from smokin notes-which is what happened to most of us.
Dr. Denslow, while presenting a challenging course, does a remarkable job by hosting numerous reviews. The difficulty of the class is mainly attributed to it's lecture dependent structure and a lack of practice material but I firmly believe Dr. Denslow does a fantastic job relating the courses material to modern economic down-turns.
Brilliant, but goes through the info WAY too fast! Did not follow syllabus. Extremely difficult and I studied very hard.
very hard class. nice teacher.
Amazing prof that will teach real world econ from recent events. Hard tests at first that require TZ&Smokin Notes, but become normal later. Ive gone to lectures, but never read through my notes, only studied SN for a week and averaged a 100. Understanding of the material is more critical than memorization. Put effort and itll not be that bad
His lectures are quite interesting. I really liked listening to them, but his tests are kinda unpredictable, most of the questions it seemed came directly from some small fact he mentioned in lecture.
Dr. Denslow, an unofficial UF tradition. He's been teaching economics for at least 30 years (he taught my dad), and his experience shows. His class is fun, but by no means easy. If you're man enough to take a Gen-Ed that's not an easy A, I definitely recommend eco2013 with Dr. Denslow.
Good professor, hard tests
Awesome professor. Really nice how he relates the material to current events. The tests are challenging.
Tests are very hard, and even harder to study for. Denslow is a fun guy who always wants to help his students. Although he's a little scattered. It's the first semester with the textbook so I think that had something to do with it. Make sure to watch the lectures. It's a useful class.
Class is harder than it should be, the tests ridiculously so. Not the most interesting guy to listen to, but definitely not boring. Be on your guard, his test questions come out of nowhere. Also, tutoring is your friend.
All around difficult.. very had to study for!
He is very knowledgeable yet somewhat scattered in his teaching methods. The topic was interesting. Tests were challenging and required complete understanding of all material. There are many avenues for help and a good grade will require effort (practice, watching lectures, reading, etc.) Take ECO2023 - it will warm you up for this course.
Out of this whole entire school year, I have learned the MOST from this class! The material is extremely relevant to today's events, and very practical to know. Watched all lectures, took detailed notes, and went over Smokin' Notes - received an 'A' in the class :) Denslow is a great professor and definitely knows what he's doing.
One of the smartest professors I've had so far. Take this class and you will learn everything there is to know about basic macroeconomics. Definitely do the released exams before each exam and reading the book helps as some questions come from the reading. Requires more work than ECO 2023 and easier if you take ECO 2023 first. Great prof.
Even though he was only a substitute for two weeks, I got to know him better than my actual professor. He really cares about getting to know the students especially if you sit in the front or ask questions. Attendance is important to him and he sometimes gives extra credit for it. His lectures are old but witty and funny at times.
He is a brilliant guy. His lectures are witty and funny. His lectures are considerably harder than Rush's Microeconomics class, but Macroeconomics is just a harder subject, not Denslow's fault. He is obviously underrated because people think his class is too hard. But it's because they try to rely on notes they buy. It doesn't work with his class.
Don't spend time reading the text book, unless you don't understand class material
Great class. Denslow's lectures are extremely relevant, and he does a really great job at making the content interesting. He's very smart, and obviously has a great passion for economics. This is not a class you have to worry about going into; if you watch the lectures and do the practice exams (and buy smokin' notes), you will do great.
Really hard, but you will learn a lot. But, you're going to have to put in A LOT of work.
He doesn't follow the syllabus at all. I survived this course using Smokin Notes.
Probably the most interesting, relevant class I've taken so far. Class is hard & requires a lot of studying, but I am getting an A in this class thanks to a 13 pt curve on the final. I watched most of the lectures and went to TZ for every exam. I didn't buy the textbook, and am glad I didn't.
Dr. Denslow is simply brilliant. He covers an unbelievable amount of material and it's actually interesting and applicable to life. Tests are tough and he's hard to follow sometimes, but there's usually a decent test curve. If you go to class, buy the Smokin notes (these are a MUST!), and take every test seriously, an A isn't too tough to get.
Dr.Denslow's class is not easy and he is sometimes vague about concepts covered in lecture because he forgets that we are not all brilliant like him =D Overall an outstanding professor. You will learn so much from this class! =)
Had online lectures for Denslow. A majority of his explanations coupled with his humor (which is hard to distinguish from fact) were confusing. Only grades come from exams. Has a positive attitude and is enthusiastic. Personally disagreed with much of his teaching of neoclassical economics. Succeeded with the help of TutoringZone.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS unless it's required! even watching lecture it is hard. TZ helped but still was not enough. he asks alot of random questions like the first letter of some economist's name. dislike this class to the max. he talks so fast its hard to keep up and he crams so much material into one exam. HARD class. wouldnt recommend for elective
Denslow is a nice guy, but his test aren't. I understand creating a test that is both challenging and relevant, but his tests are actually such a confidence deflator. I read over Smokin Notes 2 times, watched every lecture, did old practice tests, and his exams were still outlandish. Could never get over a 70, but thanks to a curve, got a B-.
This class is not easy. TZ is especially useful for this course, but you have little time to take a lot of information. Keep up with lectures, and be prepared to study A LOT after TZ if you go. Make sure to read the articles he posts carefully- they WILL show up on the exams. Also, Denslow is very generous with his curves :)
Don't take this class with him. He's so boring!!! And his exams are hell. Everyone failed the final, so he curved the whole class, if that tells you anything. You're better off at a community college or taking Microecon with Rush.
Denslow is perhaps the most difficult-to-follow professors I have ever experienced. They say he is smart, but he doesn't show in the class room. His lesson plan is his stream of thought that day, and he teaches a little bit of each concept each class (which is unorganized. He also loves to confuse you with made up words. Have fun with this guy!
An unpredictable test writer that only wants to trick you. His exam is coming up and I have no idea how to study. I wish he could just organize his thoughts a bit. Other than that he is a nice guy. Approachable.
His test questions are completely random, and he doesn't know how to clearly explain concepts. I studied tirelessly in this class to compensate for where he fell short. His lectures progress in a "random walk" in that they have no structure or clear objectives. Avoid him if you can.
Denslow is a legend in the University of Florida Economics department. He a nice old man, who knows pretty much everything about economics. However, his class is hard and unavoidable. I should have studied for the AP Macro exam in high school to avoid having to deal with such a ridiculous amount of material.
Professor Denslow is a brilliant professor. He does an excellent job of relating the material he teaches to current events and makes the class very interesting. At times his lectures may be hard to follow but its still understandable. His tests are tough, smokin notes are a must, but he curves high and an A is doable if you put in the time.
Hard class. This is my second time taking it. As my first online class as a freshman, this class was killer. I got a D+. I then took Rush's Micro class and learned a LOT. After that, I tried Denslow again this semester. Ended up with an A-. TAKE MICRO FIRST! no matter what the guide from preview says about business tracking.
Hard class but Denslow is a genius. Many people don't get his humor but if you do, it will be one of your favorite courses taken at UF. Smokin Notes are a must, no notecards allowed (they failed) and make sure to do all the reading.
Denslow is simply brilliant. You will learn so much in this class and almost all of it is very relevant to our world today. However, the tests are hard and you have to study a ton, even for a C. Questions are random, counter intuitive, tricky. TZ tries, but Smokin' Notes are much more helpful. Studied a lot, ended up with a B+ in the class.
Denslow is one of the most brilliant professors at UF. his lectures are clear, exam questions can sometimes be confusing. get as much outside help as is available. a difficult class with a great professor.
Denslow is a nice guy, but THE WORST PROFESSOR. He decided to teach freshman managerial economics. I had a 4.0 prior to this class when I ended up with a C-. He makes the class as difficult as possible and expects students to memorize minute detail he says. DON'T TAKE IT UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. IF YOU ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE AN ECO CLASS, TAKE ECO2023.
Was not a fan when I took his class 6 years ago. I can remember, like another review said, take micro first. Thanks for destroying my undergrad GPA before I basically even got started.
Really nice guy, but rambles alot in lectures about minute details. Only a midterm and final test wise and the questions are very detailed and complicated. DO NOT take unless necessary
So because of this class I will never take a hybrid/online class ever again. I mean I tried to watch the lectures but they are pointless. This class was just not helpful really.
This is not a course to take as an elective. It requires a lot of studying for the test and you are shooting yourself in the foot if you don't watch all the classes. His style is definitely confusing at times. The class is interesting, though, and extra credit was very generous. Smokin notes does a very good job with this class.
Denslow is very intelligent and ties his lectures closely to current events. His lectures are packed full of information, so make sure you keep up. The book was used very little in this course; he didn't have a single question from the book on the final this semester. He also has extra credit book assignments which you should DEFINITELY do.
He is a fantastic teacher and a great guy. He was always willing to help if you asked. At first he was hard to follow, but once you get the hang of his teaching style it's not that bad. The class isn't as hard as everyone says IF you put in the work and keep up with lectures and quizzes. TZ and SN definitely helped.
Good teacher that knows the ins and outs of economics and relates it to today's issues. Occasionally will get sidetracked. To get an A and learn everything you need to keep up with lectures, do the extra credit books, go in for any review sessions he holds, and take micro first. For midterm and final, study the quiz q's. I didn't even need TZ.
First off, Denslow knows his stuff. He might be a genius when it comes to economics. With that being said, he often finds trouble in communicating the material to people with limited or low levels of economics coming into the class. He tries to give everyone a fair shot at a decent grade, but in the end the grade you get isn't what you wanted.
Denslow is a freakin genius. However he doesn't understand we're not all as smart as him. He is very helpful though. So if you're willing to work hard he'll be there to help you get the grade you want. (along with TAs) WATCH LECTURES! its not pointless. all that shows up again. Smoking notes helps alot too! Great class to take!
If you watch lectures, do the online quizzes, and get smoking notes you should do fine in this class. I got an A without doing the extra credit books.
While Denslow knows economics- he is horrible at relaying the info to student with a limited background. He's all over the place and there is very little actual learning. I missed the final due to a med emergency and he made me wait FIVE WEEKS to make up the final-and that was only after harassing him. I have yet to get my score or an email reply.
Take ECO2023 first. Can definitely get an A+ if you study. Watch lectures and take good notes, do quizzes and study them for the test, study his practice questions, study smokin'notes. Read the extra credit books. Denslow is a genius and a very nice guy. His class is relevant to the real world. You will learn a lot from him if you pay attention.
Denslow jumps around to whatever is on his mind, going to class and watching lectures are pointless. Take the E.C book quizzes, and go to TutoringZone and get the Smokin Notes. Denslow is a smart guy, but he doesn't always convey his topics in an understandable manner.
I think Denslow is a very genuine and nice professor. He is great with communicating about announcements, although his lectures do get kind of confusing for people without economic background. He is willing to help if you ask for it. I would say watch lectures and do the quizzes and make sure you understand them, then it won't be hard to get an A.
read the ec books, they aren't too long and can end up giving about 10% of EC on top of your grade. use examples to do quizzes, and study the quizzes and smokin notes for a good grade on the exam. watching lectures isnt necessary if you do these.
He's too smart to each and his lectures were hard to follow. If I had kept up with the lectures it probably would have been easier, and do the quizzes and extra credit!
He is very nice, it's hard to dislike him. I went to ONE class and got a B+. DO ALL YOUR QUIZZES AND EC ! That's what saves you. Study the quizzes hard and read your smokin' notes & go to tutoring zone. Just with that it's impossible to fail. Tests are difficult but you do learn a lot. Definitely worth taking. He gives a huge curve on tests also :)
denslow's the best
Denslow is a great guy! He is really helpful and responds to E-mails super fast. I will admit that his lectures can be confusing sometimes, but he sends out "Quiz Examples" each week that help a lot. Smokin notes are a great resource to use- their notes are AWESOME! Start studying a week ahead! The people who complain about him probably didn't try!
People exaggerate totally on Denslow. Don't watch lectures; just go to TZ & read Smokin' Notes. Take a week before each test to prepare, and take the midterm (much easier this semester than final). Do every quiz & every extra credit book. The extra credit quizzes aren't hard at all if you at least skimmed the book. Ending the semester with a 104%.
At first I was intimidated by the previous year comments on how difficult this class would be. I didn't watch a single lecture just read the quiz examples right before the online quizzes, went to tz and read smokin notes. Look over the online quizzes before the test 50% of questions come from themm. I ended the class with a 103%
Makes the hardest tests you will ever take. Lots of opportunity for xtra cred (up to ~14% ontop of grade!) so I got an A+ anyway. Doesn't explain things very clearly, is a bit hard to follow and is too smart for his own good (things go over your head). Is a very very nice person and will do anything if you go to his office. Hard but fair.
he is the man
Good Prof! He really knows his Econ & other topics related. Due to time, I relied on reviewing quizzes, reading smoking notes, and TZ to get decent grades...but I do regret that, as Denslow really is brilliant & most can really learn from him if they attend lecture & interact with him.
I didn't like Denslow's class when I first started, but he has grown on me. He is really smart, and you will learn a lot in his class. However, he talks extremely fast, and he gives you a lot of information so it makes it difficult to take notes at times. ANYTHING could show up on a test so you have to watch all the lectures.
