only go on test days cause his voice puts me to sleep. a lot easier than Oliver, just make sure you don't miss an exam!
I think his testimony is awsome for this class. Once an evolutionist and now a creationist. Can tell he's passionate about it. But yeah his voice can lull you to sleep. He seems like he just needs a friend
Somewhat monotone. I wish they would change the class and take it more seriously. Students need to hear this stuff. He, and the class, have potential to hold attention if they change some things.
disappointing professor; his apologetics is easy, but don't bother going to class; i think he has a little inferiority complex and tries to mask it w/ a pseudo-ego... not clear in his upper level bio classes and painful to talk to (seriously brutal); sad, because his classes are important subjects
He's not very good, but he's easy. If I cared about God I might find him interesting.
Very knowledgable and passionate about his field of study, at least at this level. He is monotone, and this is compounded by the fact that the class is in a rather warm room most of the time. His test are fairly easy, but he is a stickler for preparedness, and makes no qualms about punishing cheaters to the fullest. Also, while he can be passionate and friendly enough when lecturing, he is quite cold and distant when one on one, and almost demands hiearchal respect, unlike other, more down to earth profs
His bio 415 class was especially hard. he is very unhelpful which is unfortunate because he doesn't explain the lab or the writing assignments. very difficult tests. i hated his class like i never hated class before.
very monatone
dewitt knows his stuff; he cares a ton about his students and will do anything to help them out, but he won't just hand out a grade if its unearned; a lot of students don't know how to approach him and are even affraid of him; if you take the time to get to know him and are sincerely interested in the subject, then you can learn a lot from this man
He definitely knows what he;s talking about and has a real passion for the subject. He is a little on the monotone side.
He is a scientist and he knows it all...but he doesn't know how to teach it to you in a good way! very strict on attendance and where you sit in class!
DeWitt may be monotone, but he knows his stuff and loves the Lord. talk with him after class about any questions and he'll love to talk with you. don't be intimidated. he gets excited about students being interested in the Lord through creation.
Dr. DeWitt is a very smart man with a big heart for God. He might be a bit monotoned but his lectures are worth alot after you leave Liberty. The things you learn in this class will aid in fighting anti-creationists. It's nice to see a scientist taking time to teach others about God's creative process.
Monotone voice = very boring. Spoon-fed creationism, not necessarily how to defend our arguments.
I can imagine his courses would be boring if I had to sit in a classroom because yes his voice is very monotone and classrooms are boring enough as it is, but I take the distance learning course and its really interesting to me and I actually really like him. He's also been very helpful to me whenever I've needed help with something.
The class was dumbed down a lot...I was hoping for a more detailed approach to the subject and was somewhat disappointed because I didn't really learn anything. He's a nice guy, and he'll try to help you out if you don't get it. His voice is monotone, but the notes are fill in the blank so you don't have to pay that much attention. Bring a snack
The class is boring and DeWitt makes a big deal about not being judgmental, yet he is incredibly harsh when talking about evolutionists. We aren't given any good arguments to refute those who believe in evolution. He also is just so self-absorbed (his final class was all about what he's accomplished in his lifetime) and it's annoying.
Dr. DeWitt is absolutely brilliant. He really knows what he's talking about and provides great facts that help dispute the evolutionary lies. He may have be monotone, but the lectures are still interesting. He is good about excused absences. This was my favorite class last semester.
Boring classes. hard tests: many trick questions over material not gone over in class. try someone else
Dr. DeWitt is extremely intelligent, and can be a little intimidating. However, his class was invaluable and I'm so glad I took it.
DO NOT take this class through the distance learning program. I did it this summer, and the course materials were all online, including the book and powerpoints. This was extremely inconvenient, especially when studying for the cumulative final. Definitely take this course on campus, if possible. The DLP version is NOT student-friendly.
He does not grade on time, he is fruitful for arrogancy, his speech is monotone, and he is hard to get a long with. However, his slides are awesome and his tests correlate to the highlighted words in the text. Mediocre is his middle name.
DeWitt, as mentioned in other comments, comes off as arrogant and speaks in monotone.
Dr. DeWitt is brilliant. His class is not flashy at all, but his information is interesting. He talks slowly and without a lot of emotion, but you can tell it's because he's more of a science guy. His tests are MC and TF and all 90% of the info is covered in lecture. Pretty easy class overall.
His tests are mostly mutiple choice.. so make sure you study. And don't ask him any questions, b/c he makes you feel dumb.
Dr. DeWitt is horid! His tests are full of "which of the following is not questions" and various other trick questions. He does not word things good on tests and sometimes his test questions are very confusing. I'd take someone else
Dr. DeWitt is really really monotone and always wears his lab coat to class- ask questions and he'll make you feel inferior for sure- his tests are filled with trick questions and aren't worded well. You basically have to memorize all the notes and pray you do well... Wouldn't recommend this teacher at all- take Ross or the course online instead..
Absolutely Do Not take DeWitt for this class. I had a solid 4.0 GPA for two years, even taking several 400 level classes, until I met DeWitt. It is my prayer that I am able to somehow manage a ?B? in this class. His tests are loaded with ambiguous questions that require a level of interaction with the material that is FAR ABOVE a mandatory 200 leve
I wouldn't recommend taking Dewitt. Take someone else. If by chance you do take him, DO NOT ask questions in class, and make sure you know the notes in and out before the test.
He reminds you of Bill Nye the Science guy. This is a before finishing the class rating. He seems cool.U get a book of notes and they are fill in the blank. I am in a 2 week accelerated intensive I have yet to take his tests.
Dr. DeWitt is a nice guy if you take the time to get to know him. He even has a funny sense of humor. So he can be a bit monotone, and the tests can be hard. But he takes his job seriously and expects students to study and actually learn something. I'll take that any day.
Dr. Dewitt was a pretty good professor, although a bit monotone. I got an A in the class, but it was only interesting for the first half of the semester. Once I learned what I wanted to know, I was done learning. Overall, pretty easy class and he's a nice guy.
SOOOOOO BORING!!!!! A monotone professor who is difficult and takes this class way too serious considering its just another slot on the left side of the status sheet. He is absurd.
Good class...sounds like some of the other posts on here are coming from whiners. The material for this course isn't even that hard if you study and pay attention. Would recommend this professor. He really cares about creation!
Yeah, he's rather monotone, but he's a good teacher. He's a science guy, so he does ask very scientific questions on tests that non-science majors probably aren't looking for. I liked him, but after taking Ross for Earth Science, I would have gone with Ross. Ross is just more personable, but they're both good.
Super teacher, so very smart, willing to help and explain, readily available to students. He is so smart that it can be intimidating to approach him but he is super nice so if you need help, just ask!
If he were any more boring I'd think he was messing with us. That said, his class is pretty easy. I'll give you the secret to passing. If you don't know the answer, replace the question with "Which of the following is closest to 'Evolution is dumb?'" CRST 290's content is lousy, perhaps not all his fault. Very few pro-Intelligent Design arguments.
Nice professor....good class.
The projects were kind of involved, so expect to study and do some work, but the field trip to D.C. was awesome!! Dr. DeWitt was great!!
If you like creation this is a great class. Dr. DeWitt rocks!!
Took the summer intensive. Good class. Would recommend this professor.
Took this a summer intensive. Dr. DeWitt was very approachable. Good course content.
Took the summer intensive. The prof really knows his stuff, and cares that we learn it too...defending our faith is so important.
Took his summer intensive class...I went in there VERY sure that creationists were right...but his misuse of logic and reason COMPLETELY CHANGED MY MIND! I thought I would learn MORE about how creationists were totally right when taking a class at Liberty...but if the arguements this guys puts forth are all there is...very sad!!
Dr. DeWitt can seem really intimidating. Don't let that fool you because he really cares about students. Just get him talking and you'll see.
geez, make a 2 credit course any harder will you. this course's difficultly is in par with philosophy
Ok,the professor is fine, the class is ridiculous. I am taking the online version and barely holding on. The tests cover WAY to much material and there are NO study guides. Come on! This is not an upper level Biology course!
Taking the class now. Good professor...really knows his stuff.
Dr. DeWitt is one of my favorite professors. He wears his lab coat into class, he's very nerdy, very intelligent and knows his material. If you are interested in the topic, DeWitt is great! He is also a frequent writer for Answers in Genesis! The key to doing well in his class is to (A) listed, & (B) READ THE BOOK. Highly Recommended.
I love this class! If you really want to learn in depth on creation studies...take this course. We even got to go to Washington D.C. on a field trip!
Good class...nice professor.
I am a creationist, but this guy really makes me question my own beliefs. Not because he's a good teacher, but because his arguments are so ridiculous and illogical that I constantly ask myself if I sound this bad when explaining my beliefs.
Not one of my favorite professors. Not very helpful. The class itself is interseting/deceptivly easy. You think because the class is easy, that the tests are too. That is not the case. The key to doing well on tests is to 1) read the chapter & highlight main points 2) re-read highlights & the class notebook 2-3 times the week before the test.
I took him online and it was very easy. I loved it! He has a monotone voice on the lecture slides, but they can be quite humorous. There were not many grades, but most everything was easy. Some of the tests were hard, but i highly recommend him for CRST 290 online. He really knows what he is talking about.
The class was great and Dr. DeWitt is very knowledgeable. He is very kind and if you need help just ask him. He seems dry at first, but if you listen, you will find him very humerus.
Dewitt's a great teacher, very knowledgeable and scientific guy. He may not seem that personable at first but if you approach him hes really nice and helpful. As far as difficulty of the course goes, it doesnt seem like many of the people on here have taken an upper level science course. If youre a science major, CRST 290 will be easy.
Although Dr. DeWitt made some encouraging remarks, his actions always made us believe he was against us. The tests in this class were filled with incorrectly worded questions that appear to be there just to lower grades. He also gave zero points for many partially correct essay questions. If you're looking for academic motivation, look elsewhere.
I'm sure he's a great scientist but didn't like him as a teacher. He's not helpful and seams like doesn't like you asking questions. His tests aren't easy.
Outstanding professor. Incredible and ridiculously knowledgeable. Passionate about Cell biology. Very difficult yet rewarding course
He is funny though... Very monotone...
The professor is incredible boring. He in knowledgeable in his field of study but should not be teaching. He talks quietly so he cant be heard and forgets to turn his mic on every class. He also doesn't accept questions often.
Thought the class would be interesting but wasn't very impressed after taking it. Not extremely difficult since all the test are open notes. Couldn't get over listening to Dewitt's voice. He has a nasally voice that is very annoying and the lectures are quite boring.
Great class! I learned a lot and it strengthened my faith.
It's CELL BIOLOGY. It's SUPPOSED to be tough. And it is. Incredibly tough. It's so rewarding though because you learn so much. Dr. DeWitt is an incredible man who is funny, passionate, and caring. I would recommend the course to EVERYONE who is studying biology or planning on takin the MCAT.
I took this class and it was quite possibly the most miserable thing I have ever had to go through in my life. The fact that LU requires this class is ridiculous. If I was a non-believer, evolutionist, it was cause me to stay a nonbeliever. I am ashamed to say this is a part of Liberty University.
He is the hardest teacher i have ever had, and the meanest. Doesn't like conversation and it shows. Says he wants to help but really means it only if you already understand. Tests do not reflect notes or class discussion. I have known smart kids to take the class 3 times just to past. He is a horrible teacher and was never trained to teach.
Not a good professor. He knows his stuff very well which is good. But not a good teacher. Not a tough class. It should be easy to pass. But he's not a good professor and shows little to no care and understanding for his students.
Four tests worth 250 points each, very tricky.
Honestly the worst professor I have ever had. Very monotone and boring in lectures. Class seems easy until you get these impossiblely hard test, very misleading. Unless you are science minded expect to fail or get a D at best. Class is known as the "spit on your GPA Class".
I read the text, took specific notes, and listened to the lectures (I actually read the notes on the slides as well) and still did pretty bad. His tests are inherently tricky and can be really hard (25% of the test are questions that aren't even gone over in lecture or the text) Super monotoned and boring to listen too as well. Knows your stuff.
For his creation study class he assigns no homework and only 5 tests as the entire semester grade. This class is great if you are a good test taker. His monotone lectures are painful and his tests are not easy. He knows his information well, but his presentation is very boring.
Most prideful, arrogant professor I have ever had here at Liberty. He does not like being asked questions. He is rude, and and very judgmental towards others. The tests are not reflective of what is taught in the lectures. The book he makes us read, written by himself, has typos in it. Avoid this professor at all costs.
For a gen ed this class was the most difficult. I believe the content could have been interesting but learning from a monotone, boring prof was very difficult. Sitting through his class was so painful. He should not be teaching lower level classes. Maybe his upper level classes enjoy him, but I did not.
Quite literally THE most boring and monotone professor at Liberty. The man knows his stuff, but his avid criticism of anyone who disagrees with him along with his often misspelled words in the tests and textbook will make any student lose their inspiration to learn. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS RESIDENTIALLY. Complete it online to get it over with.
If you needed help understanding something and you had a bad lab prof, you were pretty much screwed. He needs to let someone else teach the class, he is way too busy and it showed this semester. Not impossible to get an A, if you do well in lab that gives you some wiggle room. Final was the hardest test I've ever taken.
Dr. Dewitt is so smart and loves what he does. However, his tests are tricky and hard to study for. Lab was enjoyable if you took it seriously. However, the rubric on ALL lab assignments were nonspecific and the grading was not fair. There were no hard guidelines and yet points were taken off for small things that we were not made aware of.
Worst professor I have ever had an encounter with.
It is a very difficult course, however it is not impossible. I went from failing the first two exams, to getting A's and B's on the remaining. He uses the PowerPoints directly and what he talks about in class on the exams. There is no extra credit available, but he is very open about his experience in school and how hope is still present.
Cant avoid him because hes the only prof teaching the class. Really tough grader! Will take out points on every small detail and format he sees! Make you sound really stupid if he disagrees with you on any answer! Also, if he gets behind on schedule, he would fly through the entire chapter in one class with 100 slides.
Difficult class, great professor. Dr. DeWitt is down to earth and knows his stuff, and his love for the Lord is evident in the way that he teaches. However, this is just an all around tough class, and you'll have to work hard for your grade. Go to class because stuff he says in class will be on the test. Easily one of my favorite professors though!
His tests are really hard!!! but I still managed to get an A despite my low test average by doing well in lab and on homework assignments. Study the powerpoints and don't waste your time looking over topics he skips in class!
DeWitt is passionate and started every class with a devotional. This class was the most difficult bio class Ive ever taken before. He flys through powerpoints so sometimes its difficult to keep up with the info. I never read the book and managed to get an A, so just memorize the powerpoints. Take someone else for lab.
Dr. DeWitt is an amazing man. A lot of students don't really take the time to get to know him outside of the classroom. He shows greater concern if he sees you putting your all into the course. Be ready to fight for your grades. Nothing is handed to you in this class. It definitely separates the dedicated bio/premed students from the wannabes.
Dr. Dewitt is extremely intelligent and truly cares about both your academic and spiritual standing. However, this class was hard. Dr. Dewitt had to maintain a fast pace when teaching his PowerPoint slides, so be prepared to spend a lot of time outside of class examining his slides. Go to class! Hell provide extra details that help with studying!
He was the most rude professor i have ever had. i dropped out of his class the first day. He and i got into an argument because he thought i was wrong, yet he was proven wrong by his TA. He is the most arrogant professor I have ever encountered. Please, do not take his class.
Oftentimes belittles or even doesn't answer students who ask questions. Gives hard quizzes over subject matter that was not taught well to begin with.
Dr. Dewitt loves Biology. However, he doesn't answer questions well and gets irritated when you don't get something. He designs the lab quizzes to be very difficult to study for and the questions are very strangely worded so its hard to understand what he is asking. It is possible to succeed in this class, yet it's frustrating and requires work.
You are tested on material that is nowhere to be found on Xatomy or the powerpoints. Good luck not being in control of your grade.
Class was pointless. All he did was read the information directly from the powerpoint. When you ask a question he does not go into any further detail to try to answer your question but just simply re-reads the information on the slide. HIs tests are also extremely hard and questions are asked that were not in the reading material or powerpoints.
