I think this guy is a great teacher. he explains things well. However, his lab will beat you down. His lecture exams arn't too bad. There is Alot of material that he covers so just make sure u dont wait until the last minute to study and you should be fine
This is a great professor. Knows the topic very well. A very good teacher, but quizes at times are unclear. Exams requires lots of hours studying. You can expect to cover a lot of material for the semester. Exams can be very tricky.
Hardest class I've ever taken, got an F, despite the fact I went to every lecture and lab and studied outside of class. I swear he loves to give out F's.
Toughest class on campus. Plan to work your pants off for his tests. Annoying to listen to and a bit confusing.
toughest class that i have ever taken!! I have never worked so hard to get an F in my life!!
I agree, I worked my but off for an F, repeated the course and got a D!!! 4 out of 20 people in my lab were retaking... That shows something right there!
He is a great teacher. I will admit that he is a very hard teacher, however, he knows his stuff. I worked hard and got an A in his class. It's easy to get an A in the class is you work hard from the beginning and use the resources he makes available to you.
Yes, i was one of the many that had to retake this class. Its the hardest class i have ever taken, but the frist time round i waited to study and thats a HUGE mistake.keep on top of the work right away.after studying MANY hours for this class i went from failing to an A.Use the resource lab and study study study if you want to do well in this class
If anyone can make you hate your own human body...its david dilkes.
If this gives you any idea at all, i am a AB student. this is the only class i have ever had to retake, and i am barely getting a C. Not only that, but approximately one fifth of my lab section are retaking the class also, with another two fifths failing. good luck. you'll need all you can get.
This class is a challenge! Toughest class I have ever taken. There is so much information you have to learn. The semester class felt like an interim class. I really did enjoy what I was learning, but it is a load to take on. If you're not willing to put time into it, don't take it. I learned a TON, yet I still only managaged a C...barely.
HORRIBLE!!! THere is no way you can get above a bc in this class unless you dont have a life. unfortunately, there is no other teacher to choose except this guy for anatomy... so all i have to say is good luck!
Ouch! This class was a bruise to my ego. It was the first B I've ever gotten in college. This class had so much information, but Dilkes was a good and very knowledgeable professor. Try your best and work hard, and if all you get is a B, thats just fine. :)
Took anatomy with Professor Dilkes- TWICE!! And I am normally an AB student! :( I was not happy He tested on unnecessarily detailed pieces of information; it seemed as though he was TRYING to trick us. Instead of teaching the basic anatomical facts, he clouded our minds with needless junk that we could never remember. Nice guy-horrible teacher
If you read the book, you don't have to go to class because you can get the slides off of D2L and the notes are right from the book.
I have never had such a hard class in my life. I have never gotten a D in college until now. STUDY 24/7... His tests are so hard, he is very smart and expects us to be... It is horrible
Yes this is a VERY difficult class. Yes, you do have to study your tail off. BUT.. Dilkes is very helpful! I managed to get an AB in the class (with a full class load) and still had a great social life. It can be done.
Dilkes is a very good professor. He is very good at teaching the subject, very clear when explaining parts of the body. Yes you have to studying ALOT, but it can be done. I went into this class thinking i was not going to pass, but if you just do the work and know your stuff and study you will do fine! And if you have question he is always there.
Anatomy is a difficult subject all on its own because of the memorization. Dr. Dilkes is very knowledgable and helpful if you ask. If you put your study time in, you'll do fine. Lab is harder than lecture! I never studied for a lab quiz/exam before this class!
Not the easiest or most interesting class, but I can't blame Dilkes for the curriculum, anatomy will never be the most exciting class no matter who teaches it. Dilkes is a nice guy and you can tell he enjoys teaching. He'll help you if you ask. Expect to study hard, but hey, its college. Dilkes is knows his stuff and hes a good man. Thumbs up.
This class is very difficult and the professor does not make it easy. You have to study all the time in order to maintain a decent grade. Have fun
Gooooood Luck. He makes it seem that it is not hard during lecture but it is so much info. with very hard Exams. I got C,CD,C and an AB on the Exams. I only got the AB after a good 15+ hours of studing so you will have no friends if you want an A. He does try to help but it was a very hard class. Exam 4 is also cummulative. Hahaha. Have fun.
Memorize your lectures!! If you right down everything he says and know everything in the powerpoints you will be fine! Use the resource center, just go in a couple hours before each lab quiz, you'll be happy you did!! He doesn't expect you to know anything from the textbook that he didn't ask in class. I never read the textbook and got an A!
Class was difficult and you have to put a lot of time into it, but after you take it and move on to classes that ARE actually hard, you'll realize it wasn't that bad. If you can't handle this class, don't go into healthcare...you won't be able to handle it!
If you can't ace this class, you got no business in phy ed or nursing. Get out now!!!
Seriously, if you don't learn EVERYTHING he tells you about human anatomy, I don't WANT you being a nurse and working on me in the hospital! Suck it up and do what it takes!
It's a difficult class and he can be quite boring. But he has all the lectures online previous to the start of the semester and if you just keep up with the study guides for the lectures you should do well in the class.
Awesome professor! By far one of the best professors I have ever had. Very clear in lecture and puts lectures online as power points. Highly recommended. More so a nursing class.
It's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. If you go to class and study a fair amount you will be fine. The class is straight forward.
Nursing students are such tools. If you can't (or don't care enough) to get a B in 211 or 308 then you don't deserve to be a nurse or go to professional school. He is super anal but you want that in an anatomy prof. Go to class, pay attention and study, you'll be fine.
Really knowledgeable teacher
Very knowledgeable teacher, students complain b/c you actually have to study but compared to any upper level course, it is easy! Suck it up you are in college!
He is a TERRIBLE professor
Its not that Dilkes is a bad teacher. Anatomy is a tough class no matter who teaches it. The powerpoints are online and almost all of the test questions are straight out of the lecture notes. Go to class and take good notes and its not that bad.
Dilkes seems to enjoy teaching. If you put the time and effort into studying you will get an A.
Great Just ask he will spend the time
Very nice guy goes out of his way to help students, does everything in his power to help you learn the material. However the class is soul crushingly difficult. He does not curve his tests.
boring lectures. doesn't curve. exam questions are tricky. if you can't spell or memorize don't even bother with the class. To get an A you must study a lot.
This class is very difficult. Everyone seems to study their ass off and get nowhere. However, I didn't study that hard and got an AB. If you stop worrying about how hard everyone says the class is you will do fine. 4 exams with 10 extra credit on the last one. Do well in lab because it will save you!!
this guy was a good teacher. his class did require a lot of studying and the labs were really difficult, but once you got the material down, it's not too bad. just study.
I don't know why everyone complains about him. If you follow what he tells you and actually study it isn't difficult to do well. Lab is very difficult also, but just study.
Great teacher, very clear. If you don't attend class and don't pay attention you will definatley fail. But he explains everything great and puts everything you need to know if a study guide so you aren't blind sided by anything on the test.
Dilkes is an amazing professor! Always makes time for questions, offeres help, holds at least 2 review sessions before exams. Anatomy is very detailed, of course you wont do good if you dont study. I enjoyed this class and highly recommend Dilkes! Lab practicals are very specific, must know everything in lab manual
Yes, this class is absurdly difficult. Yes, the onus is entirely on you to do well. That said, Dilkes is an outstanding professor. He has an immense understanding of the material, and his resources for success (study guides, review sessions, etc.) go so far beyond what's typical that you'd be doing yourself a disservice to take it with anyone else.
Awesome professor! He wants to make sure everyone is understanding the material. He is crystal clean about what material is on the exams! I would recommend taking a class from him!
Very intelligent teachers, he knows what he is talking about. The material isn't hard, but there is a lot of it. Plan on studying constantly, especially for lab. The exams are tricky if you haven't studied well enough. Certain material is written well in the text book. Make sure you open it!
He is an excellent teacher and explains things well. He provides powerpoint slides with his lectures that are extremely helpful! Great class!
You'll have everything you need to do well in class: practice tests, review sessions, chapter summaries, pod casts. The hardest part is the amount of memorization which gets easier over time. Lab is harder with weekly quizzes. Course teaches detail orientation, it's good practice for avoiding med errors if you want to work in health care.
Very intellegent. It is an easy class if you are interested in the topic but you are consistently studying.
Dilkes is an AMAZING professor and really knows the material. His lectures are not mandatory but I would highly suggest going. He describes things very well and keeps lectures interesting. Without a doubt, he has been my favorite professor in college!
Awesome professor. At most there were about 2 questions per exam that were worded difficult. Syllabus is set up great and everything is easy to follow along with. He provides a ton of review and allows extra credit. Loved this class
One of my favorite professors. Anatomy is a notoriously difficult class, but Dr. Dilkes offers tons of help and even makes study guides. The study guides are SUPER helpful and cover exactly what he wants you to know. If it's not on the study guide, don't worry about it. He is very particular, but tells you upfront. Know your spelling!
Great instructor! He is very particular, and it's a difficult class, but he gives you all the tools you need to succeed. Powerpoints, podcasts, study guides, etc. He even does his own review sessions on top of SI. You can tell he's very knowledgeable in the subject and very passionate about his work!
Dilkes is by far the best professor I have ever heard. He is so passionate about what he teaches that it makes the class very interesting. He is super organized and truly wants all of his students to do well. As long as you go to class and take good notes and study them frequently, you'll do well in this class.
You can tell he is really passionate about what he teaches. He explains things really well and his lectures never get boring. Tough class but very interesting. Nice person and a great teacher.
This Professor is very well educated. He has a website that gives you practices on your first couple lab exams and lectures. What ever is on the lecture notes is on the exam he is not trying to trick you. If you go to class, attend SI and listen to his podcast you should get an easy A. Do not expect to just wig the exams you will fail.
This class is HARD.I wouldn't take it in the summer. I definitely would have done 10x better during a regular semester since you have a larger spread of time to study for lab AND lecture. Dilkes' lectures get boring because he explains 1 thing in 1000000 words and you get zoned out.
Anatomy shouldnt be as much of a challenge to recieve a good grade as Dilkes makes it like. I studied for hours on hours to only go into the test fully comfident and still get Bs.. Really a downer when you know it but questions are worded so hard you cant get them right. Overall I got a lot out of the class but get ready to freaking study....a lot.
He definitely knows his material but lectures can be a bit dry. He won't ever let you out of lecture early and the tests are quite difficult. Highly recommend a tutor or not to procrastinate studying!! Use the resource center in Halsey and make sure to get the old exams and their answer keys because he uses old questions for the cumulative final!
He definitely knows the material and is an overall great teacher. You're grade depends on how much time and effort you want to put into the class. Would take him again.
Dilkes really knows his material but when it comes to exams, they are like foreign material. He does not let you out early. If you decide to skip he puts his lectures on d2l but sometimes they dont upload. He wants you to read the book and listen to his lectures. I only listened to his lectures and I didnt do so well.
Dilkes is a very intelligent professor but expect to work your butt off in order to get a good grade. Use all the materials he provides, make flash cards and start studying at least a week before lecture exams. Every little thing he talks about in lecture could show up on an exam so study carefully.
Dr. Dilkes teaches Anatomy. Of course it's going to be difficult. He is so sweet though and willing to clarify anything you need. He literally makes me smile every lecture. Very intelligent. Very clear. I'd highly recommend him for anatomy courses.
Hes a good professor but he isnt willing to help you if youre getting a bad grade, lab quizzes are hard and so are the exams. Hes a fair grader for the most part but if you don t have a lot of time to study, good luck.
I struggled a lot in this class but I didn't mind him. You need to study, study, study. His exams are on the harder side but if you truly take the time to study you should do okay. USE THE RESOURCE CENTER, it is so helpful! I had him for lab also and I enjoyed him in there as well. Weekly quizzes are okay as long as you pay attention in lecture/lab
Dr. Dilkes is my absolute favorite professor since high school. He is the most caring professor I've had here at Oshkosh. He is so involved with his students and you can see the passion he has for human anatomy. He also makes everything completely clear for you before moving on to the next thing. You won't regret having him as a professor!
Dr. Dilkes is one of the best professors that I have had at UWO. He podcasts the lectures, but I always attended because he was such a dedicated professor. You will have to work hard, especially the second exam, but he knows who works hard and helps those who do to succeed. Don't get behind on readings or Connect! Pay attention, work hard!
I LOVE DILKES.
Exams are extremely hard, but he is a very good professor when it comes to explaining.
I think he's a good professor and wants his students to do well. Anatomy is still a very hard class. You definitely need to spend long amount of time studying outside of class.
Professor Dilkes goes into depth in his lectures. He posts all of them online in case you wanted to review lectures or even skip class. He loves application questions on his exams. I would heavily recommend going to as many SI Sessions as you can. He is a good teacher but anatomy is still a tough class!
I was so excited to take his Anatomy 211 course but boy these reviews are misleading. You do truly feel like just a number in his class. At the start of the year he would ramble on about stuff that we haven't learned yet. His exams are so difficult. At the start of the semester the entire lecture was filed at the end no one came. He didn't care.
He podcasts lectures so attendance isn't extremely important but he does draw or write out some stuff on the chalkboard that you can not access unless in class. His tests are difficult and be sure to look over study guides to know what exactly to study because usually he goes into detail about things you dont really need to focus on
Very hard class in general and lectures are very dry and boring. He gives lot of extra information and never gives a straight answer. I would not choose him again for it was hard to focus and exams were so difficult. Buy the textbook used and access code online - saves a lot of money! Book is a great reference but not necessary
Dr. Dilkes is a very educated, and a great person. Although, his Anatomy class was WAY harder than it really needs to be. Exams are very difficult, don't even think about taking another science course along with this one, because most of your time for studying will be consumed by this class. All I have to say is good luck. Go to SI and get a tutor.
Need to spend a lot of time studying to do well.
His lectures can be kind of boring, but he podcasts them so if you miss a lecture you'll be fine. He also has lecture notes available so it's easy to follow along in class. This is a tough class with lots of info. He gives you very good study guides for each test along with review sessions in class. Also, in lab he is very helpful too.
Dr. Dilkes is an amazing professor and is passionate about what he teaches. He is very understanding. He posts all of his lectures online so attendance isn't mandatory however you learn a lot from going to his lectures. Anatomy is mostly about memorization so although he is a very good teacher you still have to put in lots of time to this class
I just had him for the lab portion of the class. Would not recommend. He makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. His quizzes and lab practicals seem like they are trying to make you fail. Very unclear questions and pictures.
Dr. Dilkes is a good professor all around, but his course is hard. Be sure to do the readings and watch the lectures. Highly recommend going to the SI sessions! There are 4 major tests. Quite a few quizzes and a lab portion that also has quizzes. Most of them are timed. Great professor for asking questions!
Dr. Dilkes really knows what he is talking about and a great professor. This class is pretty difficult, lab quizzes are very hard so be prepared. I typically get As or A-s in classes, but struggled to get a B in this class. Dr. Dilkes is fantastic teacher, but know you will have to work your tail off for this class.
Dr Dilkes is a good prof for anatomy and is very thorough in his lectures which is good for understanding but gets kind of annoying for studying because its hard to know what he will test you on. He does answer questions pretty well and is quick to reply to emails. Exams are okay, but a lot of his questions are super specific so its hard to study.
Difficult class, however if you attend lectures and study for both lecture and lab you will do fine. Great about answering questions and emails! I would recommend Dilkes for anatomy!
Dr. Dilkes is very smart! Like very smart! It was sometimes difficult to follow along when he was very lecture heavy and seemed to go through material as if we already knew it. Also, lab was essential for me to do well in the class. I am a visual learner so it was nice to have the visual component related to what we learned about in lecture.
Dilkes is a great professor. I had him for anatomy lec + lab. He is very clear in explaining things & wants to make sure you're doing good. He does try and trick u in assignments & lab when pointing to things & doesn't always use the same pictures that are in the study guide/textbook. Need to study weekly for lab quizzes & pay attention in lecture.
You can tell he loves his job. I had him for lab and he's always ready to answer questions. Instead of just sending us off to look at the diagrams he goes through most of them with us. 10 question lab quiz at beginning of every lab. Lots of studying!! he's a really good prof
This class was challenging, but pushes you to study which in turn helps for lecture. I felt that he encouraged us to study the content more thoroughly. If lab was not as tough, I would not have done so well on lecture exams. The first few weeks of material may be tough, but he is very helpful and kind!
Dilkes is good at what he teaches. He knows anatomy is a hard subject for most people and tries to explain it in the best way possible so everyone understands. He is also good at answering any questions you have and responds to emails pretty fast.
He is good at teaching lectures. You can tell that he really enjoys what he does, and loves to answer any questions.
