This guy may be knowledgeable (which almost all instructors are) but he knows nothing about teaching. Treats university students as kindergarteners. Makes lab attendance mandatory when NONE of the material from the lab will be on the final. Aviod him if you value your GPA and time.
David Dobson is really knowledgeable about the materials which he teaches. He tries really hard to make then class entertaining and encourages student participation. He is tough, but if you try hard and study hard, you will receive the benefits.
A little off, but in a good way. Dances around, trips over furniture, incredibly enthusiastic and always excited. 3 midterms of 2 chapters each, then 4 chapters on final so easy to get marks. Term project is broken into 4 well spaced components. Very helpful in the lab or office hours. 15 min breaks are a bit too long, and can turn into 25 min ones
David is a very hyper teacher, some classes he jumps up and down and other classes he seems pretty calm and almost sad. It's a tough class that is relatively boring. he tries to makes class fun so people can focus on the boring materiel. His tests are heavily based on theory which is odd for a math class but if you study hard their not too bad
David is good. He makes a fairly difficult class more interesting and simple. However, he teaches how to work through problems in class and that's what the homework is also. But the exams are nearly all theory. I would recommend
I took the first class he taught at UFV (Bus301) and it was absolute torture. At the time, I never would have recommended him. Just finished Bus320 and he's a completely different teacher. If you work hard and show interest, you'll do well.
David is an ok prof. He's a bit frustrating. His classes are boring and focus on learning and practicing calculations. However, his tests and final are nearly all theory that most of which was not covered in class... a but unexpected. The project is not too bad.. a lot of work though. I would recommend, but be prepared for his theory tests.
Very nice and funny guy but NOT a good prof! His multiple choice questions are hard to understand due to the wording so even if you study hard, you will do poorly. He tries to trick you. The project is also hard to understand and he isn't very good at explaining things. Study his notes, not the textbook so that you get used to his language.
I've taken 3 courses with David and I've come to really enjoy his teaching style and respect him as a prof. Real concern for the students and does his best to make class interesting. If you work hard and pay attention in his classes, you'll do well, but if you expect to just breeze through then you probably shouldn't be in university anyways.
excellent professor, he is one of the best professor's i have had at the university. very helpful, and has very good understanding of the subject he teaches.
This teacher is completely frustrating. He literally took the entire 3 hours to review the course outline that he had emailed to us prior to the start of the class to review on our own. And then reviewed it once more the next week. His storys have no association to the work we are completing. and he talks to fast for any one to even ask questions.
as awful as possible
Many do not like David, but he is a great Prof. Very high energy, makes class interesting, encourages his students and is just fun. Will take classes with him again.
Never take his class.
He is a passionate Pro with full understandings of the course materials, there are amorous works and exams are harder than one would actually expect. He is a great guy who encourages students to collaborate. I would not doubt to take him again.
one of the worst teachers ive had at university would read off the slides on his laptop then use those to transition into his slides on school computer, talks so fast you cant understand him, always says how this is so important and you are ahead of the game by taking his course, which if biggest load of BS it is a tough course but he makes it worse
Classes are a waste of time unfortunately he expects you to be there and participate. He has poor management and tells a lot of stories that are not of the subject matter. EVERYTHING is based of group papers and assigns group of 5 people and makes you evaluate your members. He basically just searches for minor errors and takes huge marks off.
He talks... and he talks fast. Sometimes it's hard to keep up. He gives you notes to print out. PRINT THEM. That way you can stay caught up to how fast he's going. He does skip a few slides sometimes and it's a waste of paper but just double side you notes. You have to work for a good grade.
Funny at first but when that wares off he's unclear, not helpful, annoying. His test was well above what was taught in class and it was tested on ur speed
One of the worst profs i had. Did a poor job at explaining the slides and an even worst job at teaching how to use SPSS. He would get frustrated easily when students wouldn't understand a topic and asked for feedback. Quizzes aren't difficult but you need to be quick. He is an easy marker for the final project
the worst professor i have ever had. always talks about things not related to the course and skip quickly when talk about the important part of the course. too many things need to do for the team project with a few grates . a classmate of mine turned in his quiz to the wrong vision side and he refused to recorrect it really awful professor .
Good Professor, good project learning, good feedback of office hour. Helps a lot with assignments. Would take again with him.
Bus226 is a repeat of stats 106, so David assumes his students understand a bulk of the course. Therefore, Id recommend him if you have a strong stats background or are willing to work very hard. Also, his tests arent very difficult, but you have to work efficiently given the time constraint. Buy the textbook, itll be your bestfriend.
I took his BUS 226 and BUS 424, David is an amazing prof. I really enjoyed his class because he made it fun and enjoyable. His low-level course will be not easy to study, but students can learn lots of skills and knowledge and help other high-level courses. The tests are super straightforward. No textbook in class, his PPT explain it all.
Took BUS 226 with him which ended up being one of the worst decisions I've made in the good part of a decade. Although he is clear about what he wants, there's just too many quizzes, presentations, midterms, etc which are really not required. He does not let you pick groups and on top of that, picks on people who are not good at math. AVOID HIM
If you want to work as hard as you have worked ever for any course, but still end up minimally passing or getting a C grade, be my guest
Answers better be exactly the same as his to get full marks on tests, a slight error can cost half the marks easily. Assigned to groups before semester starts, hope to be paired with the smartest students as a bad group can easily cost you 30% of the course grades
I have had David for 3 courses. I did not like him in Bus 226- I hated his style and had a hard time taking him seriously. But in upper level courses where students are more dedicated, I LOVE him as a prof. He is passionate about his class and his students' success. He will spend ages with you to help you understand, and his projects are useful IRL
Avoid if possible. If you are like me and only half a moderate understanding of stats, you'll drown. Time for tests is too short. Tough marker. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
David is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students unlike some professors at this university. David absolutely loves helping his students and even encourages them to come out to his office hours so he can help. Never had a professor who loves helping students. Amazing professor.
You'll learn way more from reading the textbook, hiring a tutor, or watching videos online. David doesn't do a great job of explaining the content in a way many students can understand. If you have a mind for math, you might be okay. If not, try a different prof
David LOVES statistics and wants students to be excited about it as well. He gets off track fairly regularly and speaks really fast, but the notes are helpful. The tests are difficult, but the group projects are easy marks. Do your HW and ask for help if you don't understand. The lectures aren't always helpful, so make use of office hours
His lecture is very hard to understand, he just read the PPT every class, If you can choose another professor, do not choose him.
I really feel that David needs a higher rating than this. He really cares about his students and class is actually quite enjoyable due to his humorous character. He really loves stats and absolutely cares about his students. I really enjoyed having David as my professor.
226 is basically 106 all over again but with a group project. There's a few new concepts but overall fairly basic. David is hilarious but can get pretty sidetracked and that irritates some people I've heard. The group project is really straight forward and definitely do the student research day. You get a cheat sheet and no surprises on the test.
Absolutely terrible, extremely bad at teaching the material properly and goes off topic and rushes all his lectures. Avoid this professor at all costs, you will have to teach yourself SPSS and figure it out on your own he just zips through it and barely helps you when you ask questions about it.
If you want a good grade, you'll have to study the material yourself. David isn't necessarily a "bad" professor, but he's seems more concerned on trying to be funny than actually making sure his students understand the material. His feedback isn't that helpful and he comes off a little condescending, so he makes you not want to ask more questions.
You need to participate. He is very funny and will love you if you're his homie. His tests can be weird, even if you prepare for them you might still get surprised by some questions, but group work is super super easy. Attend his classes, theyre very enjoyable. awesome prof, good friend
David is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students. David absolutely loves helping his students and even encourages them to come out to his office hours so he can help. Amazing professor. Funny, caring.
I think David does a great job at teaching BUS226. The course is quite intense, and for sure you will find it difficult, if you don't put in the work. David is very dedicated and passionate about statistics, and that shows in his classes. Personally, I think that he succeeds in presenting statistics in a way, that makes you understand real life use
David is available outside class and if you go to his office hours he will help you until you understand concepts. I thought his tests were hard and surprising even though I did almost every practice question in the textbook. That being said, the group project/homework is a lot of work but it boosts your grade.
A funny and patient professor. Always trying to help students in both class and office. Btw, I hate pop quiz.
David is the BEST. I LOVE him. He's so genuine, supportive, motivating, encouraging & the list goes on & on. Research project is SO easy, it's too good to be true. He helps you out on so much, so you are never alone. He is so sweet and caring. Absolutely hilarious, I hate missing his classes b/c they are literally my fave. TAKE HIM!
After nearly completing my entire degree, I can safely say David is one of the worst professors I have had the displeasure of taking a class with. He has enthusiasm in the classroom yet his content is hollow. I feel as though I know nothing of how to use a CRM system. His exams are multiple-choice and designed to trick you using ambiguous wording.
David spends almost half an hour each class wasting class time talking about random stuff. He then proceeds to rush through the lecture and don't have time to understand anything or calculate things. If you show up to his weekly office hours then you will pass his class, but he only has them once a week. Midterms and finals are difficult.
David Dobson is a very good professor because he really care about his students. If you want to pass his course you need to work a little bit own your own, but if you show that you work hard he will give you a good mark on the assig and project 30 %. He answers His emails very quickly and available in his office to help you with assigns & projec.
One of the best professors I have had so far. The class was a little tough but if you were dedicated he would help you with any questions. Super Accessible outside of class time. All you need to do is the weekly assignment and you will be well prepared for the tests. I will be taking him again for other classes.
David is an amazing professor. He makes the classes fun and exciting. The tests are a bit challenging but the weekly assignment HW helps a lot to score good on tests and on the Finals. Would take a class again with him!
It was an honour to study with David. He always makes the lectures fun and interesting, cares about his students and wants everyone to pass the class successfully. Be aware of pop up quizzes and study the lecture notes well. You will do really well in his class if you come prepared every class.
David Dobson has to be one of the worst professors I've ever experienced, and I've attended 4 universities. His teaching skills are horrendous, classes lack real information and isn't helpful with questions. Do not take a course with him
A pathetic excuse of a professor
David is very passionate about his classes. His classes generally have a huge chunk of the grade for group projects and the other chunk for lots of tests. He gives different lecture slides from what he teaches and you need to read the books. He can be disrespectful if you question him. Tons of works but not the hardest grader. Can be frustrating...
It was a good course. David helps alot right through the course. Really helpful guy
BUS 320 with Dave isn't a difficult course, but David isn't really a good professor. The class itself isn't difficult at all, but there's a lot of group work and presentations so just pray you get a decent group! David cares about research and is passionate, but in terms of teaching the content, he isn't the best. Easy class, Easy A, Bad prof.
David is passionate about what he teaches, and provides everything you need and more to pass the course. He makes the course fun to take, and includes real world examples wherever he can to make the content more relevant. Study the lecture notes and be prepared and you will do well.
Had David for 226, overall he was fairly average prof in my opinion. David is excellent for getting help on anything if you were confused, and super understanding about the group project which I found to be very easy. Due to him posting pre-recorded lectures his actual lectures are not at all mandatory and you will do fine without attending them.
David's class was quite manageable. A group project that went extremely quick (besides data collection which is a bit of a pain), weekly assignments that aren't too hard, and 5 tests that are quite easy. You can tell that he is trying to help his students do well. Would recommend.
An online class is difficult for teachers. I believe David may shine during in-person lectures but I would not want to take another class with him online. Business Statistics is a hard class and the online format makes it very difficult for him to explain the more nuanced subjects over Zoom.
Knowledgeable but narcissistic. Constantly belittles students and inflates his own importance. One student failed to finish a test on time and he called the student out by name and shamed him for not being able to complete the test which was "easy". Demands students speak up, but frequently makes them feel stupid for doing so.
David does not know how to teach. During class he rambles on but you still have to attend for participation marks and he will pick on students. He wastes students time. All the exams are based on the textbook. There is an exam every week. He can be rude to students. His grading criteria for the group project is unclear. He is easy to access
His favourite thing is reminding students that they'll never succeed in business unless they master stats. No matter your major, he'll make you feel like a failure if you don't get it. His classes are 1.5 hour youtube videos played over zoom that he pauses every 5 mins to talk over himself. Tests are full of q's that are meant to throw you off :/
I would be careful when looking at these rating. Is definitely the type of person to come here and give himself good ratings. No idea of proper social cues or how to teach. I'm happy to be taking his class online so I can avoid him in real life.
He's a pretty nice guy and his tests are only on 2 chapters at a time, however, they're nothing like the homework... His lectures are just him playing his pre-recorded video and pausing it to make comments. He's also very unclear about what he wants us to do for the group project.
Quizzes make up a huge percentage of your final grade. They are really poorly written and confusing. The textbook is super low quality. You don't know your marks for the group project until--never. The criterial for group projects is unclear. All teams never knew what was expected of them. Course load is heavy.
David is a gem. Although his classes can be misconstrued as being hard and tough as long as you put in the effort you are guaranteed and A in the class. David cares about his students, is super nice, and is easily accessible. Pay attention, asks questions, participate, and read the textbook. Thats all you need to do I order to get a good grade
David really cares about the well-being of his students, he can come off as rude sometimes but really does do everything in his students best interest. By far one of the best professors that I have had at ufv.
He himself told the class he got C's in Stats. Why is he even teaching this course? Please never take him. Does not explain anything. Zooms through the material and just expects everyone to know it. Tests are completely different from Hw and lectures.
He's really nice, this class is based on one big group project. Its a hard course but he marks easy.
Lectures are too long, his online lectures are better then his in-person lectures. Homework has nothing to do with tests and the amount of work you do for the group project is not worth the 15%.
This course is based on such a huge project. If you have good group members then you will pass no problem but David sets the Groups and you have no say in that.
David really does care for his students. He can come across as rude sometimes if you ask a question. The class is tough and is based on a group project, assignments weekly and tests every 2 weeks. I would say take him as he isnt a bad guy at all, just be prepared to put in the work. Lectures can also be very long but they are also recorded online.
Needs a lot of effort to get an A. He has pre-recorded lectures but that only helps the best with revising, coming to class will be more helpful to understand the materials. He is the most accessible prof I've ever taken. It might seem to be frustrating at first but you will be better after understanding his way of teaching. Rmb to ask questions!!
David initially can come off as rude and condescending but he genuinely does care about his students. I do recommend attending the lectures and watching his pre-recorded lectures in order to do well on the tests and be prepared to put in the work if you want a good grade. The project is pretty straightforward, the data collection is the hardest.
I've really enjoyed his course, but it's taken a lot of work and time. His lectures sometimes difficult to follow, but he posts videos which is good and bad. Good because it helps clarify things. Bad because it's another 1-2 hours. I've also made it a habit of seeing him during his office hours, and he's always willing to help. Great guy.
Pros: - He'll make you laugh - The course assignments + tests + and group project is weighted very nicely - Hard to get an A, easy to get a B - There's pre-recorded lectures that he puts out online Cons: - Gets off topic a lot - Put in the work and you'll get an A (its a lot of work, especially at the start)
David is such an amazing professor. He makes Statistics fun to learn with. He is hilarious and makes engaging lectures. You should definitely take his class. Make sure to watch his pre-recorded lectures, they are very helpful to get good marks on his tests.
Participation matters a lot, he will make you participate in all class activities. Very funny Professor, always willing to help you.
David had been one of the most helpful professor's I've had. Sometimes the course material was difficult to understand, but he posts videos that you can refer back to. He's also very accessible during office hours. I would regularly visit to make sure I was truly understanding the material, and then sometimes we'd just sit and chat for a while.
Take him in person. Very passionate about statistics, somehow, but it makes it engaging. Helpful and not too much homework.
The course material is rigid, but David makes it easy to understand, and if you do all the assignments and work hard, you can get good grades. He's an excellent prof, but the material is heavy.
Tests include many defining terms that were not included in the lectures.
Lectures are all over the place, boring, and incomplete. Class average for quizzes is 50% and he does not curve grades stating the project will even out the grades HUGE group project with minimal weighting
He is nice and funny. Although his lectures aren't helpful, the online videos he provides are. His assignments are difficult compared to his tests. Review his slides for the tests. If you have a basic understanding of stats from 106, it's not too hard. The group project is a bit of work, this is the most frustrating part. He replies to emails quick
Huge project! Lectures are too long as said by others.
David is a nice guy. Super easy to talk to and responds to emails quick. His tests are difficult, but he curves the marks at the end. He focuses on the group project. Make sure you ace that and you will be fine. He constantly makes students participate in class. Most of the time it's pretty useless and becomes a hassle. Lectures are boring.
Honest opinion. David is a great prof! I would speak to him after classes, and he was quite inspirational, and gave good feedback on how to improve and do well. If you genuninely particpate and show up to classes, there is no reason you cannot do well. Thank you David :D
5 tests worth 70%, however no cumulative final. His lectures were dragged a bit but I wouldn't say he was a bad teacher. He was pretty clear for the most part and was ready to help if needed.
Yeah, just learn this course on your own. I like his personality but he doesn't make the course material easy to understand. He grades fairly, which is nice
I want to take this class again with professor dobson!
Best of the worst. Tests are all MCQ, with answers that you cannot calculate in class. The group work is whack. He tweaks out about random things. Just seems like luck with this course. Seems like a chill guy tho.
David is nice and funny, but his lectures are long, the full 3 hours. Lectures are recorded and available on the class website which is very helpful. Instead of midterms or finals, there are 5 tests, covering 2 chapters each, with 20 multiple-choice questions. There's also an easy group project. The content is hard, but David made it feel easier.
Worse prof. teaches really bad and then embarrasses people while taking presentations would not have a filter while speaking things in class. really disrespectful. instead of giving a feedback he starts to embarrass the group.. Thankyou!!
Very very very bad professor with weird accent, his course is very fast and quiz with too much questions, l can't believe this kind of professor can teach in ufv so many years..............
