The first day i was late because there was no parking, so i entered like 30 minutes late to class, the reaction he had made me not ever be late to class again! I attended everyday, he's an awesome teacher who does motivate you if you seem motivated! It's an unforgettable experience, he's tough but good! JUST DO THE WORK & FOLLOW DIRECTIONS kids!

OK people, this is Not meant to be an easy class. So, for everyone who is looking for an easy A, DON'T TAKE HIM. For those students who are interested in going to a 4 year university, this class will help! All you have to do is have excellent attendance, do your reading, and FOLLOW directions!
He is the BEST teacher I have had! He is VERY hard but you learn a lot from him! As long as you follow directions and have determination then it is very easy to pass! I'm not great at writing essays, but he makes it easy to where you just have to follow a few directions and if you do, it will be an EASY A! I suggest to everyone to take his class!
he is etremely hard but knows how to explain everything good. also, he is strict on being late. you need to be on time and never miss a day because every lecture he does, u learn something knew. you will always need a Dictionary in his class
Very difficult, but awesome teacher. Really prepares you for college level writing. Many students did not pass is class. He was the most difficult teacher ive had so far. Take his class if you want to be challenged.
I strongly recommend against this class unless: you are an eng. major, or you are looking to challange yourself. If you are a serious student, their is no doubt mr. d will take you to your limits and surpass them. This course is definitely difficult, but not impossible.
His class is difficult but very rewarding. If you really want to do good in the class, you have to read and study everything! Make sure to study his grammar notes!!!
he is strictly meant for university college. he is not meant for community. i have recieved A's in all English classes and he failed me eventhough, i was suppost to be in English 1A.also when class was at the end there was only four students out of 30 that originally were in his class. seriously do not take him he dont give out good grades.
This class was challenging for me, maybe because i took it straight out of high school. He is a strict teacher, but a great one that knows his material. Pass this class and you'll probably be ready to write a book!
He's defiantly not a pleasure to be around. Seems conceited, but is actually somewhat nice in office hours. He expects every word you write to adhere to a specific format. If you stray from the essay format you're screwed. Also GRAMMAR! Both the midterm and final are nothing but GRAMMAR. He also makes you buy 5 books, 2 of which you use only 25 pgs
I took English 125 and 1A with Mr. Dominguez, and I received a B and an A. He is a challenging teacher, but if you do your part and show up to class and study the notes there is no reason you should receive a bad grade. He encourages all his students to utilize his office hours, and he is very sincere when he invites his students.
Being in his class was a challenge, but I learned so much. More than I ever learned my 4 years of high school. He grades your papers harder than any professor, and his essays topics are confusing as hell. He gives you 0 feedback. He is Poet so if you like reading poetry take his class otherwise DONT. His final was the easiest of all 20 Questions.
I will never forget the exceptional experience I have during this class. He is a very smart teacher and comes to class well prepared. He expects same from his students. So I would recommend if you are planning to take him, then be prepare to work hard in his class. I will guarantee that you will learn a lot from him. Overall, he is a good teacher.

Tough grader but a great person overall. Most of the people who don't like him are illiterate idiots anyway. I would definitely recommend him. Show up give it your all and you will pass with a B or maybe even an A. Also, try to get and stay on his good side.
Dominguez has to be THE BEST professor I have had throughout my college years. I had him when I first began college & he has helped me succeed. He is tough. Really really tough. But his feedback is really helpful, especially in the long run. Now I have to write a 10-15 page paper and it is easy now thanks to him. You have to truly be committed.
Hardest Prof. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Most of my class dropped and we only had a few people at the final. He is so hard, the writing center has specific binder just for his class to help you pass. I tried his method of writing in my other classes after I barely passed and my profs told me I did not know how to write. Good luck.
Mr. Dominguez is an extremely tough grader. I did all my papers, corrected what needed to be corrected. I missed the deadline for a turn in by less than 10 min (I read the time wrong so I thought it was on time) he wouldn't accept my paper because it was not excused by one of his "reasonable excuses" listed in his 24 page syllabus.
Mr. Dominguez is, by far, one of the most inspirational instructors at Reedley College, who is passionate about literature. He cares about his students and gives great feedback on essays to unlock the boundless potential hidden inside of students: he transforms his students into exceptional writers. I would highly recommend his class.
Mr. Dominguez is a very stern guy. The first day of his class he made it known he was the boss. His grading is very hard and he will go line by line of your essay to make sure you followed his way. His lectures can be boring and make you want to fall asleep. Don't be late to class or he wont let you in. He is a kind guy outside of the classroom.

He's a great teacher. The to key to pass his class is to follow directions very well and to read the books that are assigned!! He is a tough grader on essays but if you study his lecture notes you will be able to write essays very easily and smoothly. He's tough because he really wants his students to succeed and become somebody.
He's a very tough grader, but he does give extra credit. Also, as long as you put in some effort, you should pass the class with at least a C. Getting an A is really difficult, but it is possible. You get around 4 essays, and one grammar final. Be prepared to study that grammar.

Honestly, if you procastinate I recommend you not take this class because he is a tough grader! He doesn't care for excuses he will give you the grade he thinks you deserve. If you show up everyday, pay attention, and take very good notes then you'll most likely pass but very few people pass

Take this professor if you wan't to become any form of a writer or poet. If that is not you, avoid this guy's class. He does not care for any reason or excuse you may have for missing a class or doing something in a way he doesn't want done. I was one of 3 kids who passed with a C or better out of a class that began w 30-40 students. Good luck
Gives 4 Essays and 1 final exam hes a very hard grader. All we talked about were poems hes mean and out of 30 students 10 were left at the end of the semester and max 5 passed the class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Professor Dominguez is a fair grader. If you make a mistake that was not covered, you will not be marked down. There are 4 papers, a multiple choice final, and extra credit -- Go to the extra credit! The hardest part is he forgets we are all not writers; You will only have one week to write each paper. This is what makes the class truly difficult.
By far the BEST professor I have ever had. He is a very tough grader, and he makes you work for your grade. I passed his class with an A, and let me tell you I worked very hard for it. I learned some life long lessons in that class, and NO you do not have to be a poet to understand his lectures. He is an awesome professor! You will actually learn.
As the others have said If you want to major in poetry take his class but if you are just taking the class because you have to for your GED or your major then don't. We were required to have five different books. He wants you to write in a similar matter as Aristotle and Plato. I took the W on my transcript rather than staying in his class.
Professor Dominguez is an exceptional teacher. His standards are high and he expects his students to be dedicated to reaching those standards. He spends an immense amount of time making sure that his students understand the material. Although his grading can be tough, he gives feedback that will help you improve as a student and writer. This guy likes to talk a lot about his personal life and likes to retell boring anecdotes repeatedly every single lecture. Apart from being a strict guy he is extremely rude. If you are trying to get your GED done do not take him unless your really into poetry. Also be prepared to waste money on useless books. This man also takes attendance serious

Professor Dominguez is a great instructor. He might be a little strict and a tough grader, but if you try your best and go in there ready to learn you should be fine. Many students dont recommend him because you have to read a lot or because of the essays but how else will you learn! You should want to earn you grade rather that just receive it!
This class is difficult if youre lazy and/or unmotivated. Wouldnt recommend to someone who graduated alted or by the bare minimum. If youre focused and have a passion for writing or poetry, take Dominguez. Hes a tough grader but taking and passing his class will make you an amazing writer.
For those of you that want to pass English 1A there are many other instructors that teach this class with the student's success in mind. Stay clear of this instructor unless you want to learn English within prison walls. You will buy many books that you won't use. Be prepared for boring lectures.
His class is very difficult and was very frustrating. He assigns no homework or review. The only graded assignments are 4 essays and the final. You almost never receive feedback on assignments so it is impossible to know what you did wrong and how to improve at writing. Class started with 32 students. By finals only 7 showed up.
He is a tough grader and he gives u 4 essays and the final and gives u grades on those and thats all and then for extra credit u have to listen to his Boring friends talk. Gives u a lot to read and it is almost always on the same crap ok get your note card out today class we gonna talk about the sublime and how It is good to use Forget him

I was one of the last two taking the final exam, when he walked to his TA and started talking about how easy the test was and how bad everyone was doing. Yes, while students are still taking it... Try concentrating while being made to feel stupid by someone who is suppose to be professional. Long story short I didn't do well and went from C to D.
Always made a big deal about saying "yes" and if you didn't, he would stop you mid sentence and embarrass you. His lectures don't make sense. He also doesn't give good feedback and shows that he isn't there to help his students succeed.
He doesnt care about his students and makes everyone have the subject. No productive feedback was given; expects perfection. He expects you to do things his way otherwise its wrong. For a GE course his grading is ridiculous. Stay away from him at all cost if you want a future and stable mental health.
Take this class only if you're prepared to to put in the work. He has only 4 essays and one final exam, with extra credit opportunities here and there that I recommend taking. You cannot BS a paper, he will know & will ask about your writing if it seems veige. I recommend going to tutoring an hour before his class, TA's are good at giving feedback.
Dominguez doesn't care about his students. He's on a power trip that makes him insufferable. His lectures make no sense. He belittles his students. He's the worst teacher I've ever had. No feedback or instruction. He doesn't really TEACH. Out of 30 students all but three dropped the class I was in. I wish I had been one of them.
As inspirational as he is, he is rude and is too hard. If you want to learn with fear, and be treated badly for things you sometimes cannot control, take his class. keep in mind to NEVER sleep in his class, be late, use your phone, or talk unless he is asking a question. GOODLUCK!
I took his class in 2018. I'm traumatized! I would spend literally everyday in tutoring and barely passed. He gave me a C- because I didn't follow to the T his own writing style. I'm normally an A/B student in English. STAY AWAY! He's full of himself.
He has you print out the materials for the class which isn't too bad. The lectures are easy to follow. I cannot stress it enough that you have to have the materials printed because that's what his lectures are based on.
This dude's class is way too hard. Lets keep in mind that he teaches English 1A, which is the first beginner English class you can take. Besides all this, Dominguez acts like this is grad school, and you go to Harvard. Legit hardest class I've ever taken, and I've taken physics, calc, etc. Just drop, unless you want your gpa all messed up.
Dominguez is the worst. He's on some kinda ego trip, doesn't care about his students, & it shows. He starts class telling students that most of them will fail. His lectures are boring. He puts little effort into teaching. He dropped a classmate without speaking to him, though the student was reaching out. Don't take his class; you will regret it.
The required reading was extremely confusing and the essay prompts were vague. Each paper was excruciating to write and the student expectations were unreasonable considering it is a beginner writing course. I still have not taken a harder class as an A student at UCI. The difficulty of this class is extremely unnecessary and unhelpful.
This class is not for someone who is not willing to put in the work. WATCH THE LECTURES, especially the first ones before Essay 1. He is nothing close to what these other reviews have said. Highly recommend joining the group tutoring as they will literally write the essay with you and guide you through the whole semester. I learned a lot!
The professor's teaching was good. But it wasn't easy easy, attendance was mandatory, and following his style of writing was mandatory. Overall to make his lectures smoother all you need to do is pay close attention, take lots of notes, make sure to always have a pencil in your hand, participate as much as you can, and don't be late.
This man reset my aura to zero. Crying every other day for this class. Nearly made me drop out of college. This was 2 years ago and I am still traumitized by what this man put me through. 100% DO NOT RECOMMEND.
You need to show up or else you will get dropped, he will not accept any "excuse". My car wouldn't star and I was sick for a couple days and he did not care.
There isn't enough words to describe how horrible this man and his class are. NEVER checks his email, the whole course is about him and his book, and what he thinks proper writing is. Stepping into that classroom took years off my life, 0/10 do NOT recommend. Save yourself and choose a different teacher. He doesn't even give work, its only essays.
This class is not beginner-level writing. He never responds to emails. He expects essays to be perfect but explains the assignments badly. He expects students to keep up with what he is saying but makes everyone write on paper while his tutor types it. Save yourself the tears and choose a different professor. Do Not Recommend.
This course made me consider dropping out of college. He started the semester by telling everyone that half of them are going to fail. His expectations are absurd for an introductory english course. Your grade is dependent on 4 essays and a final exam. If you don't use the exact writing style in his textbook, your essay is "incomplete".
Failed this class because I submitted ONE assignment late. All my other assignments were turned in on time and got passing scores. Don't take this class!!

This was the most horrible class taken.I would use HIS essay and HIS grammar books just for him to say refer to it instead of any legitimate feedback. His feedback was always negative. He would not point out what's good only what's bad. He only teaches about the SUBLIME. You have to do a “research” essay on it. Do not take this class.
Doesn't assign the work until the late afternoon immediately expects you to understand the work no questions asked. You will struggle in this class and will mentally drain you. Doesn't care for his students. His assignment instructions are vague and if you do ask questions he will not reply! I do not recommend taking his online course.
I took his online class despite the reviews in hope it would just be nonsense. I was extremely wrong, here's why. He assigns work on the modules but if you don't watch the lecture then you have no idea what you're doing. He expects you to print out papers for an ONLINE CLASS. Very big ego and impatient. Expects your life to revolve around the class
I'm thankful I remembered this website. I want to say as a student who is always an A to B steady student this teacher is the most horrible! When I took his class he didn't grade assignments until the last minute! He finds excuses not give you full points for no reason! Brags about people not passing. Makes students cry! Surprised he isn't fired.
Save yourself some tears and take literally anyone else. Took him for english 1A for fall 2023 and I still feel some type of way just walking by his portable. Please do not take him!
WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD!! DO NOT TAKE HIM! He will make sure you fail his class and brags about it in his lectures. He grades your big assignments last minute which messes up your gpa and there's no way of getting your grade up even if it is the beginning of the semester. Save yourself the stress. He shouldn't be a teacher.
Don't belive the positive reviews like I did. He is God awful and miserable to bear with. I did everything he asked and still didn't get a C, due to his way of grading aka: grading them months after they were due and after extra credit work. No matter how much extra credit you do in his class it won't be worth it.
I'm still taking his class and something I am absolutely positive about is that he is one of the best teachers at Reedley College. His “strict” teaching style helped me become a better writer. These people that are giving him bad reviews most likely didn't try or put in effort. Remember to do the tests because I forgot one and now my grade is a B+.

Im still in the process of taking his class this semester and he is awful. He doesn't give letter grades only points. You won't know what grade you have in this course until the end of the semester. Don't expect your project grades back any time soon. It's already the end of the semester and he still hasn't grade the 2nd project.
If you want to hate yourself I'd say take him! He does a great job at it! He will never say anything positive about students writing unless they practically worship him. You can stay up all night/use proper grammar and he will still find a way to bash on your poems. Every student I've came across who took him absolutely despises him!
English has never been my strongest subject. He is tough grader and rules are hard to get used too. If you show improvement and show you are dedicated you'll be fine. He will offer alot of extra credit (2 points extra for each lecture). Thanked him alot for it! Tough but Good teacher just try your best and go to tutoring if you can! :)
I took Professor Dominguez in Fall 2024. He is a strict instructor,I enrolled in English tutoring for extra support. His class greatly improved my grammar and has helped me in my current courses. To succeed, you must watch his lectures, study the grammar book, and commit to putting in the effort. Only 4 essays on books he provides for the semester.
If you hate yourself, take his class. He's a thought grader, made me cry, and was not so respectful towards me. He gave me the minimum every time. I went to his embadded tutors for help, and they said my essay was excellent, that he would love it, but it was wrong!!! Got the minimum grade.
Unless you want a tanked GPA and mental health issues, do not take his class. Everything is done based on his own grammar book, and his hours long lectures consisted of incoherent rambles about the sublime mixed in with his own personal matters. If you have no life outside of college and English, you'd probably like it
