Tests are difficult but fair, class is fun & worth going to, you'll learn a lot!
Hard, but very fair. I enjoyed this class.
HARDEST TESTS EVER...pay attention to the rat brain handout and KNOW PERFECTLY, always on the test. Study after every class otherwise chances are you won't do well.
I agree with the Rat brain statement!!! I just took one of his famous multiple answer multiple choice tests and it was pretty hard! Good guy. Very helpful and personable.
I love this man. I took this class years ago and he stands out as one of the best professors I ever had. Such a great teacher.
Very fun teacher, but not an easy A. Don't take this class if you want to keep a decent GPA.
An amazing teacher, and his tests aren't as bad as everyone says.
Edwards was a great teacher, but a horrifyingly bad mentor. I loved his class so I approached him to advise me and he only told me what he did and why his path was the road to choose. What a jerk! I think he's really arrogrant because he's legitimately a great instructor, but avoid him for advising.
He is very interested in the material, but I wouldn't reccommend him for anyone who doesn't like to study. You definately would have to study for this class and his tests are EXTRA hard.
i have edwards as my advisor and have had a good experience with him. he's given me a lot of helpful advice. but i agree that he's arrogant and he can be REALLY intimdating to talk to, so i dont think that makes it harder to approach him.
Worst teacher Ive ever had.
He is a great professor, he makes up great stories. He's a nice guy, but he doesn't take ANY crap (don't be late, he'll stop class and call you in out in front of the entire class) which may put a lot of people off, but hey, he gets the respect he wants. His tests aren't bad if you STUDY for them. If you don't, well...
Great lectures and really hard exams. He knows everything and he expects you to know e verything. I really thought those exams were impossible no matter how hard I studied. But overall he is great. One of the most interesting professors I've met. It was really impressive that he knows everyone of his students names whether they come to class or not
Edwards is a wonderful person when you speak with him and he will help you with any questions you might have. Unfortunately regarding his exams he is merciless. They are multiple multiple choice with no partial credit, there is a curve on them but if you dont know everything he says down to the nuts and bolts you are finished.
edwards is an awesome lecturer. his tests are exactly from his notes and nothing else. i must emphasize that you need to study your ass off for the first test. they are multiple multiple choice w/ no partial credit. know ****ing everything. the tests are fair though because all of the questions are clear and straight from his notes
Dr. Edwards is intelligent and funny. However, his tests are extremely hard but very fair. Make sure to take good notes & copy everything down that he says.
I learned something interesting every day, but once you start this class, if you want a good grade, your life is over until you finish the last exam. Unless your joy in life is studying, don't take it. However, if you love to study or have to take this course, take a lot of notes and study every day. He's a pretty interesting teacher.
Edwards is an amazing man. You'll learn astounding things in his classes. However, just as everyone else has said, he is merciless on his exams. Anyone taking his class needs to write down absolutely everything he says and maybe bring a tape recorder to record his lectures. I sh*t you not, his exams are some of the hardest you will ever encounter.
Nothing ever changes! I took Brain & Behavior in 1978...the class gave Edwards a standing ovation following his last lecture. The tests ARE hard, but the material is easily comprehensible. GO TO CLASS!
he is hard, so study!
David Edwards is flat out, hands down the best professor at Emory, and quite possibly one of the smartest men I've ever met. If you go to class every day w/ good notes, you'll have no problem. If you have a hole in your notes, though, his exams will mess you up. The exams are fair but VERY VERY hard. Completely worth it. Oh, and don't ever be late.
His tests are hard but they're not impossible. It's called "attending class", and it helps out with that whole "comprehension" thing.
Dr Edwards will challenge you, but his tests are NOT impossible. They are the most fair tests I have ever seen; all the material has been mentioned in class at some point. He's always willing to help, and is a WONDERFUL teacher. He kept a class of 120 interested, which is an accomplishment. He also managed to learn everyone's names by the 2nd week.
Tests are aggravatingly difficult. If you don't know where every bit of information is exactly in your notes and can't recite it back from a cold start, you haven't studied enough. Funny guy, great teaching methods though.
He is very interesting and will not bore you. You must stay on top of your notes and make sure they are good. His tests are not impossible.. they are hard but fair, you do have to know every bit of information. I got a 96 on both exams, the best strategy is to record his lectures and re-listen to them and take meticulous notes. Attend every class.
Best. Professor. Alive.
Amazing teacher! Must work really hard to do well.
Great professor. Very hard tests, multiple multiple choice format. As in, choose all the correct choices for a problem. If a particular problem has 5 options that are correct, choose exactly those 5 or you will not get ANY points for that question. That being said.. great professor, very interesting.. Take the class.
Best professor I've ever had. The material is hard, but the tests are extremely fair if you understand the concepts. A year after taking his classes, I still remember small details from his lectures. Take any class he teaches!
AMAZING professor! My favorite teacher ever! He really sparked my interest in Neuroscience and although his tests are VERY difficult, if you study and really learn the material, you will do just fine. I HIGHLY recommend this class for those interested in being in a challenging and stimulating environment!
Had genuine interest in this class before taking it but his unrealistic expectations, extremely difficult tests, and worthless office hours ruined it. He is definitely brilliant but the class was so not worth it if you're not going to major in psych. Also a lot of neuroscience is involved.
Very smart guy and very inspiring. He really knows how to stimulate your thought and his tests are hard but fair. He's my advisor as well. I have to say that conversations with Edwards were intimidating but worthy. He gives many life advices and show real responsibility as a mentor. Best professor I had at Emory!!
I love this class because it is so interesting, however the tests are awful and really really challenging.
Edwards' tests are RIDICULOUSLY hard. I've never gotten a C before, and I'm struggling to get that in his class. That being said, you only have to get a 40 to pass the class so if you're taking the class purely out of interest, like alot of people do, TAKE IT PASS/FAIL. It would've made my semester exponentially easier if I had.
extremely interesting class. he is an excellent teacher. but you must take perfect notes and listen to every word he says. his test are impossible. recommend taking this pass/fail. class should not be a 100 level ...more like 3 or 400 level. but any way he teaches the materialreally well
Great Professor. made me want to become a psych major. tests are hard, but extremely worth it
Greatest Professor ever! Hardest Test Ever! (Multiple Multiple Choice)
Extremely interesting class. Although the material and the tests are hard, he really wants you to succeed in the class and to gain better studying habits. Very helpful during office hours!
It's hard. HARD but.... Although his tests may seem hard, if you take really REALLy good notes and recordings, you will be fine. More than 20 out of 107students got A. He is always crystal clear and interesting.
Dr. Edwards is absolutely amazing professor and lecturer!!!!!!!!!!Although test is really hard, as long as you understand his 5 questions, you can still get an A in his course!!!!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
GREAT Minds!!!!
BEST TEACHER/CLASS IN THE WORLD!!! I would take this class even if I got and F.
WORST teacher in the world! If you don't plan on majoring in psychology DO NOT take this course. Completely inaccessible, but thinks he's God's gift to the world. Has no text book, and never posts his notes= you are in BIG trouble if you can't write down everything, which is impossible. Has multiple, multiple choice tests, no partial credit. RUN!!!
Never EVER miss this class. You will miss crucial notes, and getting them from a friend is not half as valuable as being in class. You must memorize the notes verbatim, no exaggeration. But he's a very engaging and fun professor who will go great lengths to ensure you understand the material. To him, the knowledge is more important than the grade.
Absolutely the best professor I have had so far!!!! His course's influence and clarity even helps me succeed in later neuroscience courses because he set a solid background for ALL the material you need to know. This is my second time to rate Edwards, and I would not regret to recommend him with all my heart!
Must have superb note taking skills to take this class. Edwards is an extremely engaging lecturer who constantly keeps you on your toes in class (randomly calls on people). His tests are multiple, multiple choice with no partial credit, but the questions are fair if you know everything in your notes. It's a lot of work but you learn a lot
The best professor I have ever had. His teaching style is amazing. The class is not very hard once you figure it out. His exams are solely based on the simple graphs that he draws in class. His exam format is not too tricky, it is essentially groups of true/false questions. I got an A and did not study more than a few days before each exam.
Dr. Edwards is an amazing professor! Super engaging and committed to his students. Test are very hard, but become easy once you figure out a good strategy. Must take excellent notes for this class. I recommend recording lectures and listening to them after class to fill in your class notes.
The best professor at Emory by far. Lectures were very engaging. I recommend recording lectures and rewriting notes. Tests are hard, but if you study well in advance, you will be fine. Also, he calls on everyone at some point so be prepared for class.
So hard...Best professor at Emory though, and you will learn to think about science
He is a very interesting and engaging professor, he knows a great deal about the brain and about behavior. Although I took his 103 class, he stated on the first day that the course number may not be appropriate. Overall the class is very hard, it will challenge you to grow as a student. Despite the rigor it is the most rewarding class I have took.
The trick is to copy everything he says and draws--and I mean everything you can--because the information will definitely be on the test. Don't bother to learn the names of the experimenters. Just know what they did and what the results were and further implications of the study which he talks about. He's a GREAT professor who knows his material.
Dr. Edwards is HANDS DOWN my favorite professor at Emory so far. He is everything that I expected and more; he cares so much about every student, wanting to help them succeed. He sure won't give you that A though... you will have to work HARD, but being taught by such an amazing professor is worth the work for sure.
I'm going to echo the words of a lot of students who have commented and say that Dr. Edwards is absolutely the best professor I've had at Emory. He's challenging, but far from impossible. Everything is manageable with a little time. People who don't like him are honestly just looking for an easy A and don't want to do any work.
He is incredibly interesting. He is extremely well travelled and knowledgeable in nearly all subjects. This class is the biogical side of psychology which is interesting, but complex for a 110 psychology class. Definitely write down everything and review notes daily or at least weekly. Don't be intimidated. Ask questions to understand.
Wonderful class, I got a lot out of it and Dr. Edwards is a true expert of the course.
This class is very interesting and I did learn alot. Dr. Edwards is a great teacher, but you literally have to memorize your notes and more to get an A in this class. Hardest tests EVER.
Every student should take an Edwards class in their time at Emory. While his tests are difficult, the best thing to do is just memorize notes and not make study guides. He tries to intimidate students at the beginning then he gets friendlier at the end. The tests can be tricky but the material was super interesting.
His class was really interesting and he was really nice, but the class itself is difficult. You have to write EVERYTHING down that he says in your notes, and be really quick about it. He flips through his work so fast you can easily miss vital information because he has already moved on while you are writing. Tests are hard, so avoid if you can.
He is definitely the best and my favorite professor at Emory. People do say that he is really hard, but still manageable. I got over 90 while others were getting 32. I studied really hard. Always starting to prepare for his exam more than one week earlier. RECORD ALL OF HIS LECTURE. WRITE DOWN ANYTHING HE SAID. Listen them right after the lecture.
Dr. Edwards has a reputation for being difficult, but he is NOT unmanageable. There is no textbook - just lecture. Take DETAILED notes, ask questions if you are unclear. Revisit notes every week or so to refresh because the only way you will pass his multiple, multiple choice tests (1midterm,1final) are by knowing those notes inside and out. period
One of the best teacher's I've had, but DO NOT take this class if you dont want to work your ass off. Your entire grade depends on 2 exams. The way he grades is so harsh and you get absolutely no partial credit. The material is interesting but if you cant get over an 85 on both tests, dont expect an A.
Hands down one of the hardest classes I've ever in my life- if you're prepared to do the work and study EVERY DAY, go for it- getting a decent grade in this class is like winning a race- incredibly satisfying. But if you're not willing to put in the work, expect to fail. Proceed with caution.
Loved the lectures and the way he thought. Tests are really hard. Took me some time to get used to them and learn how to study for them. Take clear notes during class. If you need help with them go to office hours and he will explain everything.
Prof. Edwards was one of my favorite at Emory. Class is lecture based and the tests are EXTREMELY HARD. If you don't attend class and write down literally every word he says, you will fail. Your notes are all you have. I went to his office hours almost everyday just to make sure I understood everything. He's really helpful if you go to him for help
the BEST professor I had in Emory! Take his class before you graduate! He is a very fair professor and his lecture is super clear and interesting. He just makes you want to learn. No homework, no readings, only two tests and the final is optional. Are they hard? It depends. I got As on both tests so I guess they are very doable.
Be ready to memorize, and internalize lectures. Lots of information every class. Must be super focused and not tired. He writes on a notepad using an overhead projector. Write what he says, write what he writes. Miss it? Ask your buddies. Office hours are for explanation. If you don't have a heavy schedule, I suggest voice recording. No powerpoint
This professor does not like you if you don't understand the first time. He is the only professor who ever told me my study techniques (trying to understand his lectures) were completely wrong. He also didn't offer a better technique. I also find it very unfair that your entire grade is based on 50 multiple-multiple choice questions.
Be prepared to feel ridiculed if you make a mistake. Edwards can be condescending and unapproachable.
Edwards really knows his stuff, and is one of the best professors in the department. That being said, he is also notoriously tough and you really need to make sure you pay attention and study hard if you want to pass the class. He's also very willing to help, but you do need to make the initiative. Great professor overall.
This course makes me struggle. No textbooks, no assignments, no quizzes or projects. The exam scores mean everything. Your average score of the two exams determines your grade. You may take an optional exam to replace the lower score. He is super helpful and answers all emails. Go to the lecture and take notes and understand them, you will be fine.
I LOVED Dr. Edwards' class. Everyone will complain about the multiple multiple choice exams, but everything you need to know will be in your notes. Super interesting and engaging lecturer. Take advantage of office hours and make appointments to discuss class material if you need extra help. He wants you to do well in his class!
Dr. Edwards just has 2 test and the entire course grade is based on these tests. His classes are tough but if you work hard and on regular basis, you can perform good. His lectures are one of the best lectures that I have ever experienced. He is a big name in Psychology and it was a privilege to be able to study in his class in my first semester!
Hardest tests ever. Material is interesting but lectures can get a bit boring.
His lectures are very interesting and he is very good at explaining the studies that he presents in class. He writes down all the notes that you need for the tests and there is not textbook so attending class is a must. He is a fair grader and is tests are easy if you really study and understand the material.
He writes all the notes in class and not posted anywhere. Only grades are 2 multiple choice exams with multiple right answers for each question. If you miss one then the whole question is wrong. TYPE NOTES in order to get everything he says. It is a difficult class but if you study hard and understand what is being taught then you will do well.
He's a nice guy. his exams are awful. Multiple multiple choice will kill even the best of students. Take the class if you're really looking for a challenge. His lectures are very engaging and super interesting. There's no textbook so be ready do frantically write everything he says in lectures. Oh and 100% of ur grade comes down to 2 exams.
Edwards' exams were EXTREMELY difficult, and if you don't go to class you will not be able to do well at all as the information is extremely detailed and there is no textbook.
Prof Edwards was one if the most amazing professors I have ever had, He has a real interest in psychology and really wants his students to learn a lot. However, this course IS test heavy and you cannot miss class. If your write down everything he says and understand what is going on, there is no reason why you shouldn't succeed.
Dr. Edwards is one of the smartest and most engaging professors I have had at Emory so far. His Psych 110 class is by far the hardest Psych class one will ever take. All students have to attend every class if they want to succeed, try handwriting all your notes and pay attention to his Brain Diagrams those always come for a good 10-20 marks on exam
Hardest tests ever. There is no textbook, powerpoints, or any other resources, just his lectures. You need to write down EVERYTHING he says in class. Don't miss class, you really won't pass.
Lectures extremely interesting. This professor knows his stuff. No textbook or readings, but take good notes because the tests are entirely based on lectures and your grade is entirely based on tests. Don't think about regularly skipping class. If you want to learn a lot of interesting material from a very smart, knowledgeable prof, take Edwards.
Tough prof who really makes you work for a good grade, but one of the most caring, helpful, accessible, and genuinely incredible professors I've ever had. I've taken both 110 and 103 with him and recommend both classes. Truly cares about what he's doing and making sure all of his students understand the material deeply. All-around great man.
Best professor I have ever taken, Such a wise man. I dont know what everybody on here is talking about, if you attend class, its an easy A. also saves the hassle of reading text and buying a textbook. Greatly recommend him
Amazing professor. His lectures are so interesting and it was an easy A as I attended all the lectures. Would definitely recommend taking him
A little tough but the class was great and he was incredible. There are only two midterms which are pretty much based on the class notes. If you attend class, you good!
Do not take this class!
If you want to be called out /embarrassed in the middle of class for random stuff, this is the class for you. He made a girl walk out of class crying after calling her out. His exams are MC/MC so prepare for the worst grade you will probably get at Emory. No partial credit. Has to be one of the worst classes I've taken. Topics areinteresting though
Dont take this class. The class begins and ends with Proff Edwards taking. Thats all he does. No notes, no presentation, just talk. He wont even stop if you have questions. Way too hard of a class for what its worth.
He's an amazing teacher, but his classes are incredibly hard. The tests are MC/MC, and there's no partial credit, so that sucks. If you're a Psych major, you can't miss his classes! Take them pass/fail if you have to!! He also puts on a huge curve, like a 56 is a C. He also offers an extra credit opportunity & brings his dog to work every day.
Topics are interesting but his grading scheme is terrible it's MC/MC no partial credit and he tells students to 'memorize your notes' (almost impossible) to prepare for the test
I'm a psych major myself and have taken several classes before this one. However, this was by far the HARDEST class I've ever taken. This felt more like a grad school level course (academic advisors have even said as much). The tests are unreasonable since you have to memorize every little detail from different experiments (graphs, charts, stats)
Run for the hills if you value your GPA. Entire grade consists of 2 tests. Each is multiple choice with many correct answers. Missing one part of a question containing 16 parts makes it entirely wrong. No partial credit. He told us to memorize every tiny detail of our notes; also that he needed to teach us how to take his tests. Not an entry class.
The content of this class is mostly focused on the sexual behavior of animals. So if youre hoping for a deep dive into the psychology of mating in rats, this is the class for you. You cannot miss class. Hang on his every word because his test questions are deceptive. Its all in your notes, but you have to memorize every minute detail. Seriously.
I'm not a psych major, but I took his class for my SNT credit. It was phenomenal (if a lot of work), and I would strongly recommend it. The class requires student exertion and the tests are difficult, but I would say grading is fair. His classes are well worth a mild strain on your GPA.
It doesn't seem like he wants his students to do well. Grade is based off 2 tests, which are multiple multiple choice. If you don't get all correct answers the whole thing is wrong and there's no partial credit. You have to memorize every little detail to do well, so I recommend not skipping and record his lectures to listen to later.
He's legit the best professor ever, you learn so much. The topic is just mad interesting, it's fun, but really challenging. I did well but I worked... He sends review emails after every class, review the lectures everyday and memorize it. His tests are very fair. People here who say it's too hard don't work hard, simple
Edwards is a fantastic professor. However, you MUST show up to every class, you MUST write his notes verbatim (hes not too fast so that isnt very hard), and you MUST memorize the results/conclusions. If you do so, his exams are 100% straightforward, as there are no surprises. If you go in expecting a cake walk, however, youre in deep trouble.
Don't skip class. Memorize all notes and everything he says.
PSYC 110 with Dr. Edwards is the hardest class I've taken at Emory so far (Im a Jr). His tests are multiple-multiple choice, & the hardest exams I've ever taken. The lecture material is hard, but extremely interesting. He can seem scary & unapproachable, but still go to office hours. If you work hard & aren't scared to ask questions, you'll pass.
David Edwards is an incredible professor, he challenges you with his MC/MC tests, but they are super fair. He gives you everything you need to know to succeed on his tests; however, if you don't memorize the conclusions/results/graphs of the experiments you will fail. He grades on a serious curve so an 85-100 is an A. Take this class, but be ready!
PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF DO NOT TAKE THIS HIS CLASS IT IS HONESTLY HORRIBLE I DROPPED IT AFTER TWO WEEKS TRUST ME YOU WON'T REGRET IT
This will be, by far, the hardest intro course you will take at Emory. You MUST go to class every day, even though attendance is not taken, or you WILL NOT pass. Only 2 tests make up your grade, with an optional final. Test grading is very difficult and relies solely on lecture notes, so pay attention. Course material is interesting but very heavy.
Go to EVERY class and TYPE every word he says, but have paper on hand so you can draw the graphs he shows. To study for the exams, paste all the email questions into a doc and answer them, along with the 5 questions for each experiment. Tests are tough but the questions are quite straightforward IF you understand every study well. Awesome guy, too!
I got an A in orgo and a c- in this class. this aint it chief
Dr. Edwards is a really knowledgeable professor. However, his grading and test structures are absolutely atrocious. His tests basically require you to regurgitate information about the studies you learn about in class, word for word. He gives no partial credit, which means that many of your correct answer choices will not be counted.
Dr. Edwards is an amazing professor. His class is challenging, but he is very fair and makes it completely possible to succeed. He provides a review session and study guide before every exam, is extremely accessible and replies to emails very quickly. If you ask questions and memorize the details and results of all the studies you will do great!
Dr David Edwards is a fantastic professor in my opinion. Although his class is known to be hard, if you attend class everyday and pay attention to what he says, you'll be fine. The tests are quite easy if you review the material taught in class. He is very accessible outside the classroom and make sure to visit his office hours.
Man, I am a Psych major but this man has made me reconsider significantly. Now as a person he's nice and takes time to know everyone's name in the class. But the PSYC110 (Intro to Psychobiology) is ridiculously hard for a major pre-req taken by mostly freshmen. The class requires you to get above a 40 to pass, yet 60% of the class still fails, just
Prof. Edwards is a brilliant Mind, bad professor. His class is supposed to be an introductory level class, yet it is impossibly hard. His exam structure is horrific, he makes it so tough to get any points. His exams are so tough that there is no limit time aka you can go when you finish. I took 4 hrs and barely got passing grade. Stay away.
Having taken both of Dr. Edwards' PSYC 110 and now PSYC 103 class, I can safely say that I've had enough time with him to know that regardless of how challenging it is to study for his examinations, he is a spectacular professor and teaches absolutely riveting material. He is a legend at Emory, a must-take professor. You can prevail and get an A!
Dr. Edwards is a brilliant man and engaging professor. He's really invested in his students and their learning. He's certainly intimidating, he also has a soft side. Dr. Edwards has a bad rep. but I had a great experience being his student. He was very helpful in office hours and never boring. Must work REALLY hard to do well, but it's worth it.
Lectures are fascinating but Edwards is undoubtedly the worst professor I've had in my 4 years of college. Entire grade based off two VERY difficult exams (out of my class of 92 students, 24 failed the 1st exam, 23 got a D. Only 9 got an A). He's also incredibly condescending and WILL make fun of you if you're even a minute late. AVOID at all costs
NOT an entry level class! Tests are multiple MC, so if there are 6 right answers & you get 5 correct & the person next to you misses all 6, you both get an equal ZERO for the question. Tests are the only grades & the entirety of every class is lecture, so it's almost impossible to get an A. Edwards did not warn us & over half failed the 1st test.
The only two grades in this class are the two midterms (which for us were open notes). As long as you go to all of the lectures, take good notes, and ask questions when things are not clear, the class is easy and interesting. I was always on the edge of my seat.
Dr. Edwards is an amazing lecturer. He has a bad rep for being a tough grader and his exams are actually really really hard. You definitely need to study very hard and my advice is to start reviewing at least two weeks prior to the exams. Hard work but worth it.
He is such a nice person and he remembers every single student's name in class! You will ace this class if you review the notes frequently and using his email as a guidance! You will learn a lot, Good luck
The entire class is a lecture & there is very little discussion from students. No papers, participation, or projects, just tests. Write down EVERYTHING he says & don't skip a single class. He claims you have to relearn how to study to pass his impossible tests. Apparently what you did to get into Emory didnt equip you for this entry-level class.
Professor Edwards's class is definitely tough but a worthwhile challenge if you're interested in neuroscience or psychology. After seeing all the bad reviews, I wanted to drop the class, but I ended up loving it in the end. If you want to do well, you must understand everything about the material and study hard. He's also the nicest person ever!
Grade based on two exams and an optional final. Final grade above 85 is an A. Exams are multiple-multiple choice, but are open notes (Take extremely good notes. He allows you to record lectures, if that helps) and no time limit. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you skip class you WILL FAIL. He is sweet and caring, and is an excellent teacher.
Dr. Edwards is the type of professor I came to Emory for - he challenges you, makes every lecture exciting, and truly cares about his students. He knows every student by name and encourages participation. He's always available for office hours and answers emails quickly. Take good notes and you'll do fine - there's no surprises or tricks on exams.
Dr. Edwards is a phenomenal teacher. His tests/quizzes are hard, but there are never any tricks with them. He says everything you need to know, so take really detailed notes. I had this class online.
Dr. Edwards only lectures and your grade is determined by quizzes and two tests. However, he explains everything in class, and it's super important that you take detailed notes. The tests and quizzes are open note, but your notes from class will help you the most. He's always available for Office Hours and meeting outside of Office Hours.
prof edwards is the most dry, uninteresting professor and the class is extremely hard. don't recommend
Really, really tough class but Dr. Edwards is an incredibly intelligent person and you will learn a LOT. Make sure to take really good notes in class if you want to pass the exam.
Edwards is called the GOAT for a reason. This class was amazing. A pure in-depth analysis of the mechanisms behind behavior in the brain and truly made me enjoy it. I remember 90% of his lectures and the research studies that we talked about since he is that memorable. Loves teaching and will try to get you to think deeply about hard concepts.
Take him if ure ready to work, but it's rewarding. If u write down EVERY word he says, u WILL get an A. But lecture is dry & he calls on ppl to answer. There were abt 25 quizzes (1-3 HARD questions), 2 tests (based on quizzes), a final, & 4-8 pts EC total. Every QUESTION was no partial credit but was open notes w/ no time limit. (^covid conditions)
He could be a good professor if he lowers the difficulty of his tests and quizzes by giving partial credit instead of giving a 0 if you get 7 out of 8 choices correct. Also, in this class we don't even have a textbook, which makes it so hard for us to review
There's not enough words to describe how much I hated this class. you only learn about hundreds of experiments and are expected to know everything about each other them. the tests are absolutely impossible. people failed even though they were open note and online. the questions are all or nothing and were paragraphs long with 10 options. don't take
You have to prepare to attend every single of his class because you won't have any notes or handouts if you don't. He will only use handwriting. It is not an intro-level course, harder than 207. If you are not a psych major, don't take 110. If you have to take, take 110 taught by other professors. Trust me, I will be your lifesaver.
Please Please Please don't take his course. Taking his course is my trauma for my entire four years of college. He should teach phd level not intro level.
If youre not a psych major I wouldnt advise taking this course. The material wasnt difficult but I was so much that you had to attend almost every class and take them very detailed. The quizzes were reasonable but the exams had multiple parts and multiple answer possibilities. No partial credit so if you missed one part it cost all points
He is the most disrespectful professor at Emory. He discriminates against non-native English-speaking students by discouraging them from taking his classes. Not sure how he is still teaching at Emory, a school that claims to be diverse and inclusive. Avoid him at all costs.
Dr. Edwards was a great professor and interesting enough of a lecturer but you have to really pay attention and take good notes if you want to get a good grade.
Dr. Edwards is a hidden gem at Emory. His extremely dry sense of humor may not be for everybody but I enjoyed him so much. His lectures are so clear and easy to follow, and his own lab work is often included! I'm not a psychology major, but I want to take more of his classes. Extremely responsive, very clear criteria. Huge respect for him. 10/10!!!
i'm not a psych major but i'm so grateful I got to take edwards' class. infinite respect and he makes me laugh every class. truly a gem.
His tests always tried to trick the test taker instead of testing in good faith. The subject matter and lectures were interesting but I would say his testing methods were evil.
Dr. Edwards is truly a legend at Emory Psyc Dept. I will not be able to get through the mist of such study material without his enlightening help all the way. I have to say the content is hard, especially for the first few online sessions. You will definitely get beyond an amazing score from this class if you put in the effort. Highly recommend.
Dr. Edwards is literally the BEST PROFESSOR I've ever taken classes from in Emory's psychology department. I hate learning neuroscience but he makes the class not just bearable but AMAZING. Come to class and take extremely detailed notes. All his exams (2 midterms and 1 optional final) and quizzes are open-note and online. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Dr. Edwards is an awesome professor. His tests and quizzes are difficult, but if you go to class, pay attention, and take detailed notes, you'll do fine. He responds to emails fast, and is always available after class for questions and clarifications. He's a genuinely good guy, and really appreciates if you participate.
The grade in this class is solely based on your quiz average and two tests. The tests were quite difficult and were multiple-multiple choice with no partial credit. To pass this class you must write down every single thing he says and go to all lectures. He bases his lectures only on previous research studies, but they are all pretty interesting.
Dr. Edwards is knowledgeable and seems to be admired by other students, but I struggled with this class when I did well in all my other classes. I found the quizzes IMPOSSIBLE as they're "select all that apply" and no partial credit (meaning if you miss 1 single option the entire quiz is graded as 0%). After this happened 3 times, I changed to S/U.
Dr. Edwards was one of the best professors I had at Emory. As long as you went to class and paid attention it was easy to get a good grade. He is kind and answered emails with questions I had quickly. His questions were all or nothing for credit which made it a challenging class for many people, but I would 10/10 recommend it.
Awesome, funny, caring guy, but DON'T take this class because of his grading policy! He's an all or nothing grader: if there's a multiple select question with 3 right answers, but you select 2 of the 3, you get no points. No partial credit on ANY of his assignments. Also there's no powerpoint or recordings, so you can't miss any class or notes.
Hard teacher
Dr. Edwards is the best professor you could take as a freshman. His lectures are engaging and sometimes fast pace, he encourages students to communicate; he always makes himself available. This class will challenge you, his exam questions are all or nothing. The class teaches you to take detailed notes and encourages students to review work daily.
Professor Edwards is an amazing professor. The class is very difficult and is based on 25 quizzes and 2 exams all select all that apply questions, all open note. If you pay attention in class & study you will do well. His lectures are amazing and so interesting, definitely a hard class but so worth it.
There are no PowerPoint slides. You have to remember/write down every word he says but he runs through too fast to remember what to write. Writes in illegible cursive handwriting. There is no guideline or assignments to understand what the quizzes will be like or cover. If you get on his radar he calls on you nonstop with hard questions.
Honestly, this class feels like a weed-out class. He has no slides or anything posted to canvas, so you absolutely must attend class if you want to do well. He grades very harshly, and is a very fast-paced professor. His handwriting is also quite difficult to read. So yes, the class is very hard, but at the core, it is also very interesting.
Professor Edwards is the reason why I switched to a Psychology Major. He is a very intelligent man, and if you aren't willing to put in the work that is needed for his course, I would not recommend taking it. His lectures are very engaging, and you will genuinely learn a lot from his course. Attendance in class and good note-taking is a must.
AMAZING professor. His classes are fun but also fast-paced, and you definitely need to take good notes because he doesn't have PowerPoint slides or class recordings. He could be a bit intimating at first, but he is very supportive, accessible, and cares a lot about his students. Overall, an amazing class! Would take it again for sure.
He's SO brilliant and very caring. Fascinating content (if you get it), but SO HARD. Only 4 people got A's on our midterm, even though he made it open-note for the first year ever. Graded only by 2 exams and 25 mini quizzes. He doesn't do partial credit AT ALL so you can (and will) get 0 points on a question if you answer almost entirely correct.
He's caring but frustrating. He expects students to learn every detail without textbooks, only teaches through lectures, and has a strict grading policy that doesn't allow partial credit for multiple-choice questions at all. His approach focuses on perfection rather than progress, which is not conducive to a heavy-science based class.
Dr. Edwards is the best professor I've taken a class with at Emory. His exams are incredibly fair and super easy to do well in if you pay attention in class and take notes. He outlines exactly what information is relevant and what you need to know from each unit to do well in the class. The class is also structured incredibly logically.
Took this class my first semester in fall '18. Definitely one of the most challenging/tedious courses I've taken at Emory, but the information sticks if you go to all lectures and study lecture notes. Dr. Edwards was willing to go over exams and help formulate a study plan to learn/test better. This class has made repro a breeze in med school!
Taking this class in the fall of freshman year was the best decision I could have made. Dr Edwards is so knowledgeable and engaging in lectures. This class is challenging and that's why many students don't like him. If you want to learn and develop effective study techniques this is the class for you. Say what you want but Dr Edwards truly cares.
While many say this class is hard, I would characterize it as more 'tedious'. I took this class the fall of 23 and it was the first year that he made the tests open-note which made it more tedious, but reduced the uncertainty with exams. All you need to do is take extremely detailed notes, and drink a coffee before, and you will do well.
Dr. Edwards runs a challenging course, but if you engage with the material and utilize tools like Unstuck ai for study prep, you can do well. Attendance is key, as are detailed notes - his lectures move fast and don't rely on slides. Overall, a rewarding class.
The way he teaches is pretty good, some might say he goes a bit fast but paying attention in class and taking notes is a must. Only con is that his quizzes do not have partial credit which makes it difficult to get an A in this class. Plus his extra credit is worth only 4 points (not percent).
he's knowledgeable in what he's teaching so the lectures are interesting. no textbook or hw, so u really have to pay attention bc there's no slides or lecture recordings so ur notes are the only info u have for tests. canvas quizzes are graded only 0 or 100, but as long as ur organized and go to class its not too hard to get an A
All or nothing graded— no partial credit on ANYTHING. Screwed me over from the get go. No slides, no readings, entire class is done on a visualizer like it's friggin 1980. Most of the class failed the first exam. Take this class if you feel confident these won't be issues for you. I took it as an unsuspecting freshman and had to withdraw; BEWARE
The class can be challenging, but if you review his post-class emails and ask questions about the material, you will do fine. He loves making time to meet with you and answer questions. Exams are also open-note, so make sure your notes are good!
Dr. Edwards is an AMAZING professor and his content is very interesting. I understand how it could be different for those who come into class expecting an easy A and not there to actually learn. However, if you follow along the notes he writes out for you, the tests are easy to get 100% on even though there are no partial credits.
Dr Edwards comes off as pretentious and smart but students don't remember what you do, they remember how they make you feel which is awful in my experience. Avoid if possible.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The tests and quizzes are all multiple response questions. If you miss 1/3 correct answers for one question you get that whole question wrong. More than half of the class failed the exams. He is a nice person, but is a horrible professor, so I'm not sure why people glaze him.Dont take this class and save yourself a headache!
Dr. Edwards is the best professor at Emory. He genuinely cares about his students, he has put immense effort in building the class and he is very passionate about teaching. Take very detailed notes, go to office hours and you'll succeed. His class is intellectually challenging but rewarding, so if you just want to memorize things, don't take it.
Took him last semester, an amazing, caring professor. Do the 5 questions for the studies, read his emails, take good notes, go to office hours, put in the effort and you'll be fine. It's not your usual slides & practice problems class, but it's highly interesting. He is an inspirational lecturer and an amazing person.
If you want to know what a great professor and class is, take Psyc 207 with Dr. Edwards. Yes, other comments are true about his old school teaching style, but you will learn so incredibly much. Probably the most rewarding psyc class on that level. His lectures are personal and engaging and it is perfectly planned out. He ALWAYS makes time for you.
Dr. Edwards cares so much about his students. Provides all the resources necessary to prepare well for exams and very accessible outside of class. While this class was challenging (rely on own notes, must attend class, no partial credit), I learned a lot and enjoyed my learning experience. Review with someone. Talk through the content out loud.
He cares about everyone although he might seem like a scary person. very accessible. Just take good notes, be sure to review them before exams and you'll be fine.
I have mixed review towards him. On one hand, a top-tier researcher who really knows the material. The materials are organized in the most engaging way possible. On the other hand, very difficult to follow his scribble in lecture, which makes everything hard because it's the most important information in the whole course. Extremely harsh grader.
Great guy. He truly does care about how you do in his class. Midterms/Exams super hard. Online mini quizzes during the week. Exams are all open note so you have to write everything down in class and really attend lectures. He doesn't really go 'by the book'--pick another professor if that bothers you.
Edwards is an amazing psych professor, and all of his lectures are really interesting, and besides some short canvas quizzes, there's almost no hw. But the exams are tricky because even tho they're open note, there's no partial credit which gets a lot of ppl. He's always willing to help tho, just make sure you read his emails and review well.
Dr. Edwards teaches details on studies but does not give an overview of Psychology
This is not a beginner course. The volume of info students are expected to retain is absurd. He is uncompromising in his teaching style. If you don't respond well to his scribble-on-paper method, he will double down rather than help you understand the material in other ways. Not worth the headache, especially for a natural science requirement
Dr. Edwards is a very caring professor. He delivers incredible, interesting lectures. That said, the tests in this course are just too hard. 25 questions, open notes, multiple-choice. No partial credit, even when questions have 2 parts. Up to 9 possible answers per question. You can every detail of the content by heart and still struggle on exams.
Doesn't post his notes, so although attendance isn't mandatory, you need to show up. Every class is lecture—pen and paper. If you miss a tiny note, be sure to go back and get it. Tests are very very hard. Know your studies, print your study guide ahead of time and study it. Very accessible, may seem scary but genuinely cares about his students.
Edwards is one of the best professors I've ever had. He may seem intimidating, but he'll go out of his way to help clarify any confusion to ensure you get the material. He truly cares about his students and teaching. The course itself is challenging, but if you show up, engage, take notes, and prove that you care, you'll do well. TAKE THIS CLASS!
amazing lectures and he cares deeply about his students. Don't miss lectures otherwise it would be hard to catch up. Graded by 2 midterms and one optional final exam but all exams are open book. Make sure to take very good notes and make connections between themes because everything that he test you on come from the exact notes.
Dr. Edwards is extremely passionate, caring, and evidently knowledgeable: you learn a lot in the class. Tests are very hard, but grades usually work out in the end. Be sure to attend lectures, take in-depth notes, and don't assume that just because the test is open notes that it will be easy-always reformat and review before tests. Lot of content
Dr. E is nice and a good lecturer, and answers emails quickly. Setup of the class is annoying: no textbook, all info comes from his handwritten notes in lectures (show up if you want to do well). The exams (two + an optional final) are open-note, but multi-select w no partial credit. Not worth it for a science gen ed, but interesting class.
Although Professor Edwards is a very knowledgeable person, he is not a good teacher. He provides no material/notes, his lectures are very messy, and he loves to cold call, making class extremely unpleasant. The course focused mostly on numerous random studies, and the tests are brutal as they are extremely long and there is no partial credit.
