I've never been so interested in History as i am now, in Elliott's class. He's thorough and animated. He knows his materials backwards and forwards, and is always very prepared. He wants you to excel. If you don't like lecture don't take his class though.

WORST CLASS EVER it looked good on paper then the started to talk
Mr. Elliot is one of the best history instructors that I have had. He is thorough and clear about the facts. He knows what he is talking about, which makes it easy for students to learn. He is a smart guy, with a lot to say. He helps you to think
he is a very good teacher. he knows what he's talking about, and if you have any questions he will help. his classes are all powerpoint, but he has handouts for everyclass. he deff. lectures, but he's good.
He is easily the best teacher I have ever experienced, in any subject. He is passionate about his subjects, and is easy if you pay attention. His lectures are exciting and easy to pay attention to. I HIGHLY reccomend him.
Possibly the best western civ teacher I have ever had. His lecture are a great help when when studying for tests. Also his interest in history is so broad that you can vitually talk to him about anything to do with history.C
Best teacher I've EVER HAD! Excellent, brilliant, genius, okay, maybe not. He's very knowlegable about european history, and make's a pretty good stab at most other areas of history as well. Very easy to talk to, easy to approach.
He was such a great teacher, I learned so much in that class, speaks very well. He is a handsome man, his class was great!
best teacher ive ever had in any subject. He is intelligent, articulate, organized, and interesting. Tests are essay and it is easy to get a B if u study, a A if you study thuroughly. ery approachable, helpful- willing to give extensions, feedback. the best!
An excellent professor and very understanding. I enjoyed every lecture because of organization, material and overall presentation. With adumbrated handouts for each lecture preparing for midterm/final is a cakewalk. Recommended to all.
Hands down the best teacher I have ever had before. David Elliott, alone, inspired me to major in history. Any studnet of SBCC who does not take him during their tenor at this institition is greatly missing out. His lectures are entertaining. I know this sounds odd, but it is true.
Elliot knows what hes talking about. Hands down one of the most educated history teachers ive seen. Class is moderatly easy if you pay attention in class... if you pass out during lectures, expect a couple hours of study before midterms. 3 short papers, 3 midterms. Great class if you need it.
Excellent teacher, I'm just adding my two cents to the already very good comments that speak highly of him. There are many people who go out of their way to take all the classes he teaches.
great teacher, knows his stuff. very interesting lectures,i hardly ever looked at the clock to see when class would end!easy to approach if you have a question.all around cool guy
Mr. Eliot rocks! He made history exciting and fun. Easy A as well, as long as you prepare for tests, which he makes very easy to do, as he gives you a thorough outline of what to expect. TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE!
I like the way he handled all levels of students questions. He usually has a good answer. Calm and cool. Stays on target with lectures...no bunny trails. Christians beware, it may frustrate you that he doesn't quite understand Christian theology or practice (even though he is "tolerant" of your views).
79.92% and the end of term, perfect attendance, class participation, marked improvement throughout term, hands and knees groveling for a B will get you a big fat C. No love for Elliott!
David Elliot is a virtual encyclopedia of historic knowledge. It took a little getting used to his straight-up lecture style, but he is a history genius. Everyone should be required to take one of his classes.

This man is so incredibly intelligent! He loves his field of study so much and wants you to love it to. This class was one of the best I've ever taken. Study, pay attention in class, and ask for help if you need it...he's happy to oblige.
i love history, and this man knows his****. he made the class really interesting and i looked forward to going to it every week. i strongly recommend taking any of his classes for you GE. i have not heard a bad thing about him from anyone i know. he's not
He is simply the most fascinating teacher I've ever had the pleasure to meet. He's only easy though if you pay attention and do the readings. His form of organization is unique in the fact that he gives you the outlines which are generally just a copy of
I took Western European history and Russian histroy with him. I guess the classes were a bit dry, but I guess that was because all history classes are dry. But if you absolutely have to take history, take it with Elliott, he knows his stuff. Pretty enthusiastic about it too.
this is the second semester I have taken with him and he is awsome!! he is energetic and loves his history. He stays at least ten minutes after class to answer questions he didn't get to already.
David Elliott is by far the best history prof i've ever had the pleasure to meet. He is easy if you study and pay attention.
this professor is a brilliant man in teaching history. He is capable of making some complicated subject to organzied sequence. He makes the class very interesting
trust me , excellent teacher
He gives you the outlines of his notes before each lecture. This makes it easy to follow. It is hard to get an A from him, but is liberal with his Bs. The fact he is eye candy helps, as is the fact his lectures are actually interesting.
The gold standard!!
I took David's class for three different semesters. I learned a lot but I never got my papers back in a resonable time His helpful/guiding words were hollow.- I didn't find that Elliott was one to keep his word about returning papers or completely fair grading.
I have taken over 90 units at SBCC. I've since transfered to UC... and Elliot is easily one of the top three professors I had at SBCC. Interesting man.. interesting class.. just take him..
By far one of the best teachers I've ever had. Take him, you won't regret it.
Took 103,104, & 108. I got 2 B's and an A. He was so interesting & so helpful. He is always available. It is easy to get an A if you do everything. Get assignments in on time and listen to his feedback. He is excellent on giving study guides for each lecture, exams & papers. Go to class, take excellent notes, do all pprs. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TCHR
Recommended. Very nice. Uses power point for all lectures so straight forward, but boring. gives study guides. 3 reading response papers. fair/easy grader and i never opened the text book.
I took three of his classes in hopes of 'learning'. I expected my grade to reflect that but he continually told me I had one grade and gave me another. BTW It's impossible to get an A from him unless you do at least 2 of the papers and get A's on ALL the work! --Do the math- Plus, he doesn't return work timely so it's hard to judge your grade.
He is cool!
Good teacher. Very passionate about history. Sometimes a bit boring.
Lectures are interesting and he clearly is passionate about his field. He thinks the memorization of dates is useless and makes sure that if you listen to the lectures, do the assignments, and read his study guide, you'll get a good grade. I've taken several of his classes and easily pulled an A.
All his lectures are based on power point presentations that he makes himself. He also gives you notes from the power point presentations. You only need to study these notes. No textbook is needed. he cares about your comments and you can skip days fairly easily.
He knows an extraordinary amount of material. He teaches very clearly, and makes concepts easy to grasp, and will take time to answer your questions. The workload is reasonable, a small essay a month + a few essay tests.
David Elliott is a very knowledgeable person about European history. The class consists of 3 short papers and 3 exams. He gives hand outs for lectures and study guides for exams. Unfortunately, it takes him a awhile to give back exams and papers. I recommend anyone to take any of his classes.
Very easy teacher. Had only a few tests and each test was thoroughly explained before hand. All of his lectures had very good notes to go along with. Book was rarely used. Get ready for a very non-secular class. Not so easy for me to handle. Spoke about Christianity at lengths assuming everyone understood all details before hand.
Great teacher. Very mellow. Not easy to get an "A" unless you work at it. Save your money on the textbook as it is not necessary and he gives you very complete notes from the lectures.
The best way to get an "A" in this class is to make sure you understand why a person/place/thing is important HISTORICALLY and the best way to do this is to double-check with Mr. Elliot prior to the exams and midterms. Go visit him in his office and he will tell you exactly what the historical significance is. Also, don't be a Scientologist.

He's a little nerdy but in a good way. I love him, he makes history great. His lectures are fun and interesting, if you're a history buff you won't be bored. Take him you won't regret it!
David Elliot is a very well educated man and very helpful. I think his lectures are very well laid out, and as long as you attend class and participate frequently you will walk out of this class learning a great deal and earning a great grade.
Love this guy! His class is so interesting and if you keep up with the reading and attend the classes you should easily be able to pull an A. Great in every way, and he is funny as well!
Amazing teacher, gives great lectures, most interesting History lessons I have ever had. Grading was a bit tough on midterms but everything else was easy. READ PERRY and understand the significance of the events and you will do fine.
I took Elliott for Hist 113 Honors, 120, and 108. I tutor for his 104 class as well. He is hands down the best professor I have had at City College so far. He is incredibly knowledgeable of the content and teaches a breadth of different classes. Take Him!!! And study the primary source documents before exams. Attend all the lectures as well!
Elliot's a great teacher. He teaches in a way that makes history really interesting. He does take attendance as a small portion of your grade, but to do well in the class you need to attend the lectures anyways. Keep up with the source documents, attend class, and you've got his class down.
Difficult but great class! If you work hard you'll get an A. Gives you great study guides before each test. 3 or 4 Exams including the final which is not cumulative. A couple of short essays which he provides good topics for. The essays are also similar to what will be on the tests he tries to set his students up for success. Do not miss days!
Awesome prof, really keeps your attention in his thrilling lectures. He is an extremely fair grader and gives superb essay prompts and study guides for exams. You will definitely get an A if you put some decent effort into the class (attendance, taking notes, etc) and ask if you need help (he's very willing). He's the best hist prof I ever had!!!
Great teacher! He has a passion for history. I like the way he approaches the material. You need to come to class 'cause you need to know what's in the lectures to do well on the 3 papers and 3 exams (all blue book). Know the readings from the primary source book (I touched the secondary book ONCE), do the papers on time, and you'll be fine. Chill!
Took multiple classes with him. Great teacher, nice guy. Uses very detailed PowerPoint presentations.Tests moderately difficult bur he gives a study guide and reviews in class. Taking notes in class is pretty important. He expects effort from students but also wants success. I highly recommend taking Dr. Elliott's classes.
Knows history very well and wants you to learn. he grades the mid terms hard though be ready to get surprisingly bad grade. just keep up with readings and dont miss class his notes are the key to exams. papers are easy too and help your grade. hard, but overall good history class
He is very passionate about what he does and is not a very hard grader on the midterms as long as you show that you know what you're talking about and know the material. His class is a little boring becasue it ALL lecture and it gets hard to retain all that info. Otherwise, he's an awesome teacher, totally take him!
Professor Elliott is a wonderful teacher! He is extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter and makes it both interesting and extremely clear for those who do not have much background in History. He welcomes all questions and answers them with an amazing level of knowledge. His lectures are fun and interesting and he is a very fair grader!
He is a walking encyclopedia!
Loved him and loved his class. He is SUCH a nice guy. He is so passionate about what he talks about. If you have any questions, visit him during office hours and he would love to talk to you. Great class and easy prof :)
I don't understand some of the negative comments left on this teacher. He was very good on returning papers and tests and every time he said I had an A paper I got an A. David is fantastic and will help you when you ask. He loves questions in class and is an all around great guy and instructor. I recommend his class.
I took him for several of my history classes and thought he was a good guy that did not like to load you up with work. My only pet peeve, was that he was too easy of a grader and gave people grades that were above what they should have received. He knows ALOT about the subject matter and does not get thrown off, but agan, much too liberal grading.
David's classes are not for people who dont enjoy the subject. His classes are 95% of him talking to the class. This might sound bad, but his lectures are interesting and he's very insightful and intelligent. It's obvious he cares about what he does and so should you. Only grades 2 tests and 2 short papers, easy if you go to class and like history
He can be a really tough grader but his lectures are extremely interesting and clear. I looked forward to his class every day. Be sure to do all of the reading or else his class can be really difficult.
I love his class! Our class discussions were always so interesting and he also gave so much incite. He knows so much and is happy to share his knowledge. An amazing teacher!
Best history teacher I've ever had. Lecture isn't mandatory, but you won't want to miss it. Class is never boring & he really teaches you to analyze the trends behind the events. If we create a Dept. of History in the US cabinet--and we should--I'd want Dave Elliott to head it. Smart as a whip, tremendously nice, and funny.
Great teacher! funny, smart, and very helpful. Loved his class! would recommend highly
Elliot is probably the best teacher I have ever had in my entire life. He is passionate about what he is talking about and that passion is infectious. He is well versed and knowledgeable and always happy to answer questions. He doesn't care much for dates and details, but more for the actual story.
I've had 2 classes w Elliott. He really is such a great professor. His lectures (both funny and serious) are so interesting. He focuses on significance of events and encourages thoughtfulness about the history we make. He'll treat you as an adult--won't babysit so you've got to be there and do the work, but he's very approachable, and super nice!
Have taken a lot of classes-- 2 with Elliott. I highly recommend him. Lectures are sooo interesting. He focuses on the significance of events and brings them to life. He's got smarts, but is down to earth, funny and kind. Blowing off class or note taking, and not being thoughtful will sink you but he's fair and very approachable if you need help.
Prof Elliott's class was great-- all lecture but so interesting. I never watched the clock. No busy work-- just a few short papers and essay exams. Take good notes, focus on context and significance and you should be fine. Don't expect him to care more about your work than you do but he's fair, super nice and easy to talk with if you need help.
There's a reason Prof Elliott has such a great reputation at CC. He's a really nice, humble, caring person w a good sense of humor, as well as super knowledgeable in his field and a terrific lecturer. Class was always interesting and thought provoking. I found the grading fair, but it's based all on essay work so taking meaningful notes is key.
he is a great prof, helpful, the only down side is that he can go on tangents, without warning you ahead of time
Very sweet guy. The lectures get a little boring, but they are VERY informative and if you take good notes, you'll do fine on the assignments/tests. He can drag on for a little bit and never lets us out early, but he really tries to make jokes and connect with the students and I give him an A for effort. Not too hard, not too easy.
Awesome Professor! Interesting lecturer, fair grader, caring, treats people with respect and is accessible. He's super knowledgeable, tries to encourage seeing the big picture and meaning, is serious about history but quick witted too. Doesn't take attendance, but work is all essay so being there, note taking and thinking are key to doing well.
This dude is awesome. He is really helpful and gives TONS of information in class. You need to go to class (not mandatory) if you want to do good. He has a great sense of humor too. Not an easy grader though. But like I said, if you go to class and take notes you will know exactly what he's looking for. I would recommend him.
Take notes, pay attention. Or don't. Your success is entirely in your hands here. 3 short essays, 3 essay exams. He gives you notes in addition to the lecture. The answers are in the notes. Learn to make an argument and you'll be fine. Available for help, will check essays before you turn them in. I personally love his lectures. Would go for fun.
There are three short papers and three midterms which are difficult. His power points are not very informative so you have you listen carefully and write it quickly (my weakness!) Does not take attendance and lectures are boring so its easy to skip class. I did not enjoy this class and had a hard time with the notes and midterm essays. best of luck
Like most here, I loved Elliott's class. He's a really nice man. Treats students as adults but is supportive if you seek help. Fantastic lecturer who goes beyond names and dates. No busy work. Note taking's key as just a few papers and essay exams, but it encourages meaningful thinking, is good prep for most 4 yrs and the work load is reasonable.
I haven't met a student who didn't like David Elliott. The man gives straightforward lectures, but you won't find yourself bored. The Honors component is a very strong accompaniment, and the weekly papers are helpful come midterms/finals. He is approachable, and friendly without overstepping the teacher/student boundary. Take Elliott!!
Elliot delivers a well structured lecture-based class which is interesting and relevant. He is incredibly kind and helpful. Just show up to class and write well structured essays and you'll be fine. The Honors Section is great because it helps you understand the material even better and makes the class more interesting.
Elliot is one of the best, most clear and interesting teachers in the History department. Loved him! would take him again in a heart beat!!
Nice guy. Takes FOREVER to grade exams....like a month and a half, seriously.
Loved the class! Elliott's a fantastic teacher who delivers lectures with insight, seriousness when appropriate, humor at times and respect for others. Approachable if you need help, too. Agree with last comment that grading can take awhile, but guess 'cause it's all essay, he grades nearly everything himself and provides feedback. I can wait!
Elliott was a great teacher. He's very approachable & will answer any questions u ask. I took his summer class & he was great getting straight to the point. He returned essays the day after, not with many comments, but would discuss it w/ u if u wanted. His essay ?s were medium level and the quizzes were a breeze. Pay attention & be there everyday.
He was okay, but his lecture-based style made it very difficult for me considering i'm not a very audio-based learner. His power points helped a bit, but I definitely had to do a lot of online research to get a better understanding of what we had learned in addition to my pages and pages of lecture notes.
Initially, I thought this class was going to be hard to get through. I could not have been more wrong! Prof. Elliot presents the lecture material in very clear and interesting fashions. The powerpoints won't help, so take notes! I have been able to do just fine without reading. Highly recommend this class. I would take a course with him again!
David Eliott is an amazing professor! He really knows what he's talking about and enplanes motives and strategies behind historical events not just facts. He makes it so interesting and it is clear that he has traveled a lot since he has such a broad and knowledgeable view. He is also the nicest guy ever!
Excellent professor!! I loved going to this class it's always so interesting and you learn so much. I've taken two of his history classes and I loved both of them. The textbooks he uses aren't boring at all so it's easy doing to the homework and all of his assignments are manageable and fair! You really notice that he knows what he talks about.
David Elliot is an excellent professor!! Very knowledgable, very approachable!! He is pretty slow on the grading though, that's the only downside I experienced in the course!
Good guy who has genuine passion for what he's talking about. Text is only really used for essays of which there are only a few. Attendace is not tracked after the first few weeks. Weekly quizzes make it easy to either pad your grade or pummel it, but the quizzes themselves are short and simple. Excellent teacher, A+.
One of the most informative, and inspirational teachers I have ever had. The information gained from this class changed me as a peson.
Mr. Elliott is the nicest teacher ive had. He is passionate about history. He is able to make bland information interesting. He is extremely approachable and very helpful. Highly recommended!!
He's a nice guy, but kind of strange if you are not into history. His lectures can be a bit boring but the class is pretty easy. There is no HW other than several essays which he takes FOREVER to grade! You do have a quiz every week but they are super easy if you simply come to class and semi pay attention.
All his quizzes are based off his lectures. You don't really need the text books for the tests, you only need the Perry book for your two papers cause it is mandatory to refer to it.
He's a very nice and knowledgable professor. Passionate about history and takes every student's thought seriously. Fairly descent college history lecture.
Firstly, only buy the sourcebook. Secondly, take. this. class. Professor Elliott is undoubtedly one of the best professors on campus; he is passionate about history and he effortlessly makes it interesting. Walking out of class for the last time, I actually got a bit sad about not being in his class any more. If you like history, take this class!
This class was so interesting! Elliot is a really sweet guy, and obviously really cares about what he's teaching. He really cares about his students, and wants them to do well. Not to mention he rocks the most awesome middle part I've ever seen! If you need to take a history class, take this one. Elliot is the man!
Horrible class
David Elliott is the man! His class is super easy and he is such a nice guy. You can tell David really has a passion for teaching and has faith in his students. If you prove to him that you are putting effort into the class, he will go out of his way to give you a good grade at the end of the semester.
Great lesson. David Elliott is very enthusiastic about history and will do his best to help you out. I have been stuck on two essays and he's helped me out. Top guy and recommend him if you take history! :)
The best history teacher at SBCC. His lectures are extremely interesting. You have a quiz every week, two papers, a midterm, and a final. Amazing course.
I utterly enjoyed his lectures makes history so interesting, I really liked attending, he's very helpful and approachable, quizes are online and easy if you read, and his midterma nd final very reasonable. take him you wont be sorry
Mr. Elliott is so cool! There's not much material on powerpoint so be good at taking notes from lecture and you will do fine. Lectures are interesting. He is super nice and helpful at office hours and after class. Funny, too. Exams and papers are easy to get A's on as long as you attend lecture and understand what he's looking for.
Professor Elliot is the best teacher I've ever had. His lectures are clearly thought ought and presented in a logical way that shows his students the driving forces behind major changes and events in history. I have taken 5 classes with him, now and he has never failed to answer a student's question clearly and politely. He is the man.
David Elliot is one of my favorite professors at CC. I've taken two classes with him thus far and have already enrolled in another class of his for next semester. His lectures are to the point and he always has something interesting to add to his powerpoints.
His class is very straight forward. Lectures are very good and all tests, quizzes and papers were easy. Definitely recommend!
Gave you what you needed for midterms, everything on weekly quizzes was covered in class. Attendance was not counted, and his lectures were available online.
2 written assignments, 1 midterm, 1 final. TAKE THIS CLASS!! I love Elliot. Seriously an amazing professor. If you need help, he will help you and go above and beyond to help you succeed. He truly wants you to understand the lectures and written assignments. Go to his office hours!!! It is so helpful. He goes over your papers and tests with you
Prof Elliott is one of the COOLEST guys around! He is so passionate about history, so helpful and clear when it came to the written assignments (3). The PowerPoints are very bare so you have to be a strong notetaker but he takes time to review definitions before the midterms. David Elliott is a fantastic teacher.
The best professor and the best class! He is smart, funny, and friendly without being weird about it like some professors are. He is a true historian with so much knowledge. Ask for help if you get confused he will lead you in the right direction for your papers and tests!
Interesting class and great professor.
Repeats names and events to help you remember and understand during lecture. Never looks down on students and limits his answers to your questions with the information you need, though if you asked he could tell you as if he was there himself. Attend lecture to understand significance and simplify. Easy quiz, tests, just study. Recommended.
David Elliott is an excellent prof. He assigns some essays which you have to use the book for, and is a pretty easy grader. He gives quizzes that are really easy, and are helpful in boosting your grade. He is really approachable, and you can ask him for help on your essays or something you don't understand. Interesting, sometimes funny lectures.
What a cool dude. He's a very knowledgeable professor who infuses a lot of excellent insights into his lectures.
Great teacher, knows his stuff and loves it, he's really understanding and easy too
I've had Elliot for two history classes now and they are generally the same format. Online quizzes every 2 weeks & 2-3 written assignments. The papers can be difficult because his prompts are heavy. However, he is so helpful if you go to his office hours that it totally makes up for it. The quizzes are based off lecture material so attendance helps
Professor Elliot is a great teacher! He really knows his stuff and seems to love teaching it. He generally seems to care more that his students understand the significance and relevance of each person, event, etc. instead of just memorizing names and dates. Just study, ask for help if you need it and you'll be fine!
I hate history but really enjoyed this class. He tells interesting facts about the people and you read things written by the people you are learning about so you learn not only what they did but an insight as to why they did it. Teacher is very helpful and very knowledgeable about the subject. Would highly recommend taking.
David Elliott is a solid professor. He explains fairly complicated events and ideas with clarity, and is extensively knowledgable in the material of the course. He's really nice and approachable as well.
David is a great professor. History can be dull but he really tells you what you need to know and the overall impact, theme or movement. He wants you to know the big picture and doesn't waste time with a bunch of dates, places, or people (other than those with high significance). Honors section was discussion based w/ a short weekly writing assign.
There were 3 essays, 3 midterms, online quizzes (drop 2 lowest) Important-need to go to class to take notes He tells what you need to know for everything, was extremely kind and helpful when I asked for help on my essays. I took this as a high school student, it was a really good experience thanks to Professor Elliott
Maybe it was just how I learn that didnt match with his teaching but I didnt pass this class TWICE. His lectures are long and boring and unless youre a history major its honestly a waste of your time. You are better off taking history 101 or 102 if you only need it for credit.
Fantastic lecturer. It's a hard class - I had to work hard on my own, but it paid off. He gave study guides and dropped essay hints during lectures, which helped. Also he doesn't require the latest edition of the textbooks, which meant I didn't spend any more than $16.
Amazing teacher! Lectures are like really interesting story time. Quizzes are fairly easy if you listened to lecture. Regarding the honors portion- weekly essays not actually too bad, can boost your grade. Discussion in the honors section is important. Make sure to at least comment once each class period.
Great professor. I love taking history classes with someone who is just as interested in the events as I am.
Best professor I've ever had :)
the lectures are everything. if you take notes, you will do well. as a person, professor Elliott is an extremely nice guy. take his classes if you want to learn a lot about history.
I love professor Elliot! His lectures are straight forward and amazing. He doesn't make you memorize dates, just important events. I switched my major to history because of him. He tells lectures like a story, and can be funny which makes it more interesting. 2 small papers, and midterm and final are short answers which he gives a study guide for.
Probably the best teacher I have ever had! He is so patient, knowledgeable and creates a stress-free environment. I wish I could give him higher score than a 5!
One of my favorite instructors I have ever had. Definitely my favorite history professor (Ive had a lot). Extremely nice, caring person. Very pragmatic too, flexible with due dates. The class is all about the lectures. Pay attention, take notes, and you'll be perfectly fine. I loved this professor so much, I'm hoping to take other classes with him!
BEST TEACHER EVER! I LOVE THIS MAN
Elliott was completely familiar with the material and his lectures provided insight into historical events as well as detailed and clear explanations. Often told interesting stories about relevant subjects that were not required for the 2 essays or 10 online quizzes nor the in-class midterm or final. I loved this class and the professor!
Great lectures that kept me awake most classes, interesting and lovable guy.
Professor Elliott is an amazing teacher!! I looked for another one of his classes to take the following semester and worked my other classes around it. Just pay attention during the lectures you'll be fine. He is able to make dry history stories interesting and is genuinely a nice guy. Weekly 6-10 question quizzes, two essays, midterm and final.
Elliott is the most amazing history professor I have ever had! His classes made history super interesting and fun to listen to! He really knows western civilization well and you can tell he loves to teach it. While it is not mandatory to be at class, his lectures are really helpful. He always makes time for his students so they succeed
One of the better history professors. He has a lot of lectures refers to the book for the quizzes. Simple to get an A, go to class, take notes, do well on quizzes and take tests. Essays are not hard or long. Super easy class definitely recommend.
I have taken three of his classes so far, and I would take a dozen more honestly. I have learned so much from his classes. While he is lecture heavy, his lectures are informational and he's a really funny guy. He has you take very short, quick tests online every week, but they are super easy. His exams and essays are also very easy.
He's is such a great professor. He lectures a lot but I love listening to them. They're super interesting, I honestly never got bored. He is such a nice guy and very approachable. He is very encouraging and genuinely wants you to succeed!
Honestly Mr. Elliot is the best history teacher, possibly teacher I've had PERIOD. This guy loves what he teaches and it shows, I will definitely be taking history 104 to follow up with 103. As a history major who wants to become a teacher-- THIS is the guy I will model my future classes off of. thoughtful, funny and understanding. you rock Mr. E
Professor Elliot makes history very relevant and interesting. It helped to print out the notes beforehand, but you can survive by just listening to his lectures and taking notes. My only disappointment was that I wish we had time to learn everything! He is very personable and pleasant to speak with and always answered all my questions thoroughly.
So much fun! Made the time fly by
Amazing professor. Everyone I know who's taken him loves him. He's turned more than one person I know into a history major. Works with you if you have personal problems and miss deadlines, dedicates a class to mid term and final prep, doesn't try to trick you. He just wants you to learn and you will in his class.
He seems very passionate about the course material. He takes and tries to answer every question and isnt afraid to laugh along with you at the ridiculous parts of history. The homework load is very light. I highly recommend this class to anyone that is actually interested in history
Great individual, a little disorganized with his powerpoint visuals but his lectures are very interesting and he is very knowledgeable and passionate about his work.
wonderful and kind teacher, really cares about the material and helping students succeed
best lecturer i've had so far at SBCC. Hist 108 isn't going to surprise you content wise, but he did a great job of focusing the class on themes that we can see throughout history, making comparisons I have never heard or thought of before. Attendance taken first two weeks, assignments included 3 medium papers and two short answer exams. Pay him.
Professor Elliot was amazing! His great lectures made me think a lot about history and even human nature. Many people, including myself, went into his class thinking it would just be another general history class, but it was definitely not. I heard many classmates saying they had the same experience. Amazing! I would definitely recommend.
Very easy class to pass with a good grade yet you learn alot. Professor David Elliott is extremely knowledge in his field, and I had a great time in his class. He is also one of the kindest professors I know on campus! He doesn't assign homework, and is a very lenient and kind grader. The Essays and Midterm/Final were very easy if you study!
Professor Elliott is THE BEST. He is an amazing teacher, and knows his sh*t. If you don't care for history, he will make you care for history. This class was the most interesting history class I have ever taken. And, it's super easy. As long as you show up, take notes, read the required readings, and take the online quizzes each week, you'll pass.
Took history with him over the summer. Learned so much & he really lit a fire for history. Fairly organized but understanding if you aren't. He's pretty flexible with due dates too.
One of the best History teachers I've ever taken. Super talented amazing attractive yet amicable professors at SBCC. His class theme song (Pay the Price by Eric and The Hostiles) always brightens everyones day and no student ever gets tired of hearing it. Easy class, fun professor, easy assignments too.
One of the most inspiring history teachers I've had and I recommend taking a class with him to all my friends. His lectures are so interesting, I never once dreaded going to class. The homework is just one online quiz a week and even though its open note, I never had to look at my notes because his lectures are so memorable.
This is my second class with Elliot and I can assure you he is a great prof! He is so knowledgeable about history and how everything connects. He makes things interesting but lectures can get long if you are tired. Come to class with coffee and get ready to have your mind blown! Class is graded by 2 easy papers and exams, with easy quizzes! Easy A
David Elliott plays one of the best class theme songs: Pay the Price will never get old!!
Took him for 104 and 108. He is an amazing professor and you have 2 essays to write and 1 midterm and a final. This was the layout for both classes and I passed in both classes. A in one, B in the other. He is very passionate about what he teaches and is very knowledgeable as well as engaging. I would definitely this class again.
Elliott is a really good prof as long as you don't mind lectures. He has a good sense of humor and a real enjoyment of the subject. Show up to class, listen to him for an hour and a half, do the quizzes, 2 papers, midterm, and final and you're golden. His grading criteria is very straightforward and he wants to make history as easy as it can be.
A very knowledgable professor. He's super enthusiastic and passionate during his lectures so its really easy to listen and learn from him.
Mr. Elliott is a true gem. He is always super excited during his lectures and clearly plans out your class schedule (and your homework). When writing your two essays (great prompts) he gives you the option to have him look over it before you submit! The midterm has questions straight out of the study guide and is graded generously.
Greatest history lectures I've ever sat through. My attention does not divert from the lecture once. Extremely knowledgeable, clear expectations, and no political or historical biases are clear during lectures.
The best history prof I've had so far! His class is extremely lecture heavy so if you miss a week, you miss a lot of material. His grading criteria is clear and he is lenient with it as well. Non history majors, I highly recommend. Hist majors might find his class too easy however. Overall a great guy and instructor, would take again!
Made history easy and interesting to understand! Such a caring guy who really has a passion for history and his students' learning. Would definitely recommend taking any class with David. Really accommodating as well.
VERY easy class. Only 2 tests and 2 essays. And online multiple choice quizzes that s are SUPER easy. I would definitely recommend taking one of his classes
He's a very good teacher. Cares about his students, precise with what he wants in papers and stuff, few tests that are very manageable. Overall total good dude.
Great professor who made me really enjoy History. I took his class online during Covid and his class is very clearly laid out in Canvas and the grading criteria are clear. Lots of lectures, but due to his enthusiasm, the lectures were fun. Easy A so long as you are ready to write! Each lecture requires a short reply to a question and are 3 essays.
I took HIS104 as a dual enrollment course over the summer so it was only 6 weeks. However, his lectures are amazing and he is really good at keeping it interesting. He is very passionate about teaching his students as well. The midterm essay was not very difficult and will give advice on what to fix if you give him a rough draft during office hours
The class is amazing, you learn a lot, and it is very fun. The youtube format for video lectures is really effective and you can learn a lot from them. One major issue that I have not seen in any of the other ratings is that the grading is hidden. You have no idea what grade you are getting on the assignments, which is really annoying.
Very easy class. Took class fully asynchronous. Consisted of watching lectures and reading the book (the readings were never more than a couple pages long) After watching and reading you have to write a 150-200 word response to a question. Discussion at the end of every week. only 2 essays through the whole semester. no quizzes or tests
Mr. Elliots class is different than other history courses Ive taken before. In other history courses you read so much but with his class there were only small sections to read, which didnt make me feel like I was reading a lot. He didnt really have specifics dates, other than just turning it in by the end of the weekend.
I took this class all online and it was great. His lectures are easy to understand and he makes them interesting. There are no tests, just two essays. Make sure to do good on them, they count as a big part of your grade. No zooms or anything, do everything at your own pace. Stay caught up and you'll do great.
Absolutely loved this class. It was completely online and up to the student to work at their pace. However, Dr. Elliots lectures were super interesting so it never felt like too much of a chore. He taught history how it should be taught with an importance on cause and effect and motifs instead of dates and names. Absolutely take this class!
No exams, only like 2 papers. Very easy papers though. Readings that he gives are only a couple of pages long. Was not a fan of history until this class. Lectures are so interesting and he tells us all the juicy drama. Professor is very sweet and approachable. You can tell he is very passionate about the subject and about teaching.
In my opinion, this class consists of a lot of busy work. I would only take this class if you are interested in history because there is a lot of homework each week, it is easy just time consuming. Prof. Elliot is very nice and gives good feedback. There are weekly videos, discussions/ document reviews, and 3 essays instead of exams.
Professor Elliott is great. He has a clear and generous grading criteria and is very lenient with late work. There are a good amount of assignments each week, but nothing too extreme. 3 essays for the semester but they only have to be about 900 words. Overall, great professor!
He is a great professor and he makes it very easy to understand the material. I would recommend him for an easy and interesting class! Also no tests, quizzes, or exams. I took it over summer so there was a lot of discussions but not too bad!
a lot of work and long videos which were boring
Definitely a very nice teacher! Grading policy is very generous, and the assignments were very light.
Overall, I enjoyed this course and think professor Elliott is an excellent instructor. If you are good at paraphrasing material and don't mind writing a bit, then you will not find the workload to be particularly challenging.
His lectures are amazing. He is a fountain of knowledge and he brings history to life. I am so glad I signed up for this class. He presents a few videos each week and students write a reflection essay about it, plus one weekly discussion with the whole class. Manageable amount of work and it's all super interesting. Grateful for this teacher.
I have had three of his classes and I would take them all again he is an excellent teacher. His homework consists of three or four video lectures that are very interesting and easy to digest and an extra assignment alternating between an essay, document review or discussion. The work is very manageable and he is a fair grader.
This class is really straightforward. He has a really great late work policy, and he is very responsive. His lectures are interesting and the short answers after the lectures end up helping for the papers later on. Make sure you stay head otherwise you will fall behind, because there are typically four lectures per week.
The lectures ended up killing me at the end cause I wouldn't even bother watching them anymore. I would just use the transcript and take what I needed.
Professor Elliot has a lot of lectures in his courses. About 3-4 45 minute long videos per week with an assignment attached to each. However, these lectures are honestly great at providing good insight into the topic he's covering without giving word for word answers to the questions. If you are interested in the material then his courses are great
Easy grader and interesting lectures
The class was very lecture heavy.
1,000 words minimum for a weeks worth of assignments
History 113H was a very well taught course. I took it online but there was a weekly in person discussion. He makes it super easy for students to do well in the class. The lecture videos he recorded were also very well taught and easy to understand.
This dude LOVES what he does. Incredibly knowledgeable and more than willing to help you out, inside or outside the classroom. His lectures are most of the notes, so if all else fails you can look at those and get a good idea of what you need to know. His in person classes are wayyy better than online ones, I highly recommend him.
I liked this professor. Homework was the exact same every week.
This was one of my absolute favorite SBCC profs. He is so down to earth and send out long lectures videos but they are SO interesting and he makes them funny. His classes tend to go over the lecture homework so if you forget to watch it's okay. So understanding and thought history like no other. You HAVE to take his class!!
David Elliot has got to be one of my favorite professors at SBCC. His lectures on YouTube make you feel like you're in the classroom in real life, he adds humor to whatever he can, which I really appreciated. I took a summer class so there was a lot of work in little time but he was able to make it manageable and even fun.
Professor Elliott's lectures are engaging and informative. The workload is manageable, and Unstuck ai was a helpful study tool alongside the course materials. Overall, an interesting and rewarding class.
I went to study abroad with him in Japan. One of the best teachers I have ever had. He is very passionate about history and a caring person. 100% would take his classes again.
Best teacher i've ever had.
I love him so much, his lectures are amazing and he throws his little jokes sometimes, very easy to understand and easy grader. Definitely worth taking a class, especially in person
this dude is a G
Great class! Took for my history credit for my 4-year university. Prof Elliot made this class manageable to do alongside a busy summer schedule, how summer classes should be! The class had 2 essays and then just weekly videos to watch, and a paragraph response on each one, super doable! will take again!!
Loved this class so much! Not a huge fan of history, but he made it enjoyable. There were around 3 assignments each week where you had to write, so if you like writing, this class is definitely for you. Don't think there was any extra credit, but if you follow the grading criteria, you'll be fine.
