Fantastic professor! New to NDSU as of fall 2013, but a great addition to the College of Business. He makes a true effort to make each student in a lecture hall of 250 understand the material. He even attempts to learn names and does a great job at it. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he gives test questions when attendance is low. Take his class!
EASY A as long as you attend class. Gives easy test questions to random class days when alot of students don't show up. His test are super similar to notes taken in class. As long as you take notes and somewhat pay attention in class you'll easily pass.
He was very good about keeping the class interesting! He never uses the textbook so if you didn't understand his notes, good luck. It took him about 2 weeks to cover like 7 slides. Notes weren't helpful when it came to the test (had to know concepts). Attendance isn't a must he complains about people not being there the first half hour of class.
This class is really boring and the professor doesn't give any guidance on how to study for exams.
This is my easiest class this semester. If you go to class and just listen and take note, you will get "A" for sure. I even did not have to spend much time after school to prepare for the exam. I just went to class everyday and look over note just a day before exam, and I have high "A" so far. Great professor too. You just need your book to do HW.
Seriously THE BEST PROFESSOR I have had on the NDSU campus so far!! He does a wonderful job explaining everything even if you don't exactly understand the concept. He does a great job of including and interacting with everyone in a class of 250 students. As long as you have good attendance, you will get a B. My advice: TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HIM!!!
Econ isn't my strong suit. His lectures are long and if you take notes, you'll do decent. Definitely have to work for your grade.
A fair grader who makes class interesting. Make sure to get your hands on some old tests as they usually match up word for word. Hardly any homework outside of class. Very relatable and he uses beer and baseball cards for lots of his examples.
Englund is fantastic at teaching Micro Econ! He gets his students involved and excited to learn. He offers bonus points for class if you answer questions. The tests are based strictly off of his lectures and anything he talks about is fair game. The Aplia homework is just from the book. Nothing from the book is in his tests which is a huge plus!
Nice guy and interesting to listen to. Sometimes tries to be funny, rather than teach the material. Gives opportunities for extra credit in class if you take part in the lectures. Don't bother buying the book because the tests are only on the lecture material
Easy to understand, very good at clarifying topics. Give lots of bonus points if you participate in lecture. Tests are based solely off lecture notes, and not out of the book. The book is used only for the aplia online homework.
Tries to be fun with his lectures. Gives out extra credit for participating in class. Basically teaches right out of the book so don't worry if you miss class.
Englund is a good professor but Econ can be tricky sometimes. Does give extra credit but doesn't count for much. Tests are tough so be ready to study and work hard.
I took his class as a retake and I'm very glad I did. He was interesting to listen to and was open to helping those who needed it. There was an error with my final grade of the online homework, because of a last name change and previously taking the course, but he was very helpful with fixing the error. Overall, good experience.
He really engages the class in his lectures. Just go to his lectures and pay attention, and this class will be a piece of cake. He is super friendly and doesn't move on until everyone understands the concepts. I would take a class with him again.
David Englund is a great teacher who makes difficult concepts easy to understand. He offers lots of real world examples and extra credit to help raise scores. His tests are tough, but he will raise scores if the average is too low. He is always available to help students out. He saves money by not requiring the textbook.
Professor Englud makes dry material exciting by engaging the students and using real world examples. If you are attentive during class his exams aren't too difficult and he curves if the average is too low. It is obvious that he cares about the education of his students and he is a genuinley great instructor. 10/10 would take again
Makes class fun but get ready to write
David is a really good lecturer. he made econ exciting and interesting. did not require books and only gave tests on what we went over it lecture. you can skip but you are only hurting yourself. would take again.
Dr. Englund was a great professor who I would gladly have again. Going to class is pretty much required because each day is worth a few points. Tests are straight forward. Dr. Englund liked to engage the class which made learning the material a little more entertaining.
Super easy to get along with and makes sure everyone in the class understands the concepts before moving on. Just don't use your phone in class! It will not end well for you!
Makes the concepts super easy to understand and in turn made the test easy for those that attended class regularly. Uses real world examples and engages the students in the lecture and is willing to go off on small tangents that students may have.
Excellent professor. Makes concepts easy for literally anyone to understand. Tells funny stories and engages the class (180 students) in casual conversation or uses them in examples to explain concepts. Really wants everyone to understand the material and will go back if needed. Made extensive use of clickers. Fun class, totally recommended.
Has decent lectures, and has clicker points every class. class is mostly conceptual, and pretty easy. Easy to pass if you show up every day. No homework. One complaint is he seems to hate all technology, does not allow phones or computers in class.
He's so rude. Awful teacher BEWARE. Don't give a clicker to friend. Also he's so into himself, makes sense since he's not married.
He isn't helpful at all and is very into himself. I would recommend not to take any of his classes.
David is a really good professor. He relates on students' levels, and loves active discussion. For a class of over 150 ag students, it was nice that he'd let us debate in class about things (i.e. GMOs, markets, etc). He asks if we understand, and makes you feel welcome to say if you don't. Going to class is important, but if you do, tests are easy.
DO NOT TAKE DAVID ENGLUND FOR ANYTHING EVER. I believe that he actually wants his students to do poorly. He is unfair, rude and awful at teaching. If you do unfortunately end up in his class, make sure you go because there are clicker points every day. His tests make no sense. Having old ones from previous semesters might help a little bit.
Super funny! Do not share flickers!!! Beware about that! Also sit in front row for ec
I loved Englund as a professor. He engages with the students, and makes a boring subject fun and easy to learn. Go to class, he'll give you all of the notes. Don't share your clickers. Speak up, and he'll give you extra credit points. Tests are going to be the bulk of your grade, but pay attention and study and you'll do fine.
an honest and straigforward techer, willing to joke and play in class. He is abousltly willing to help if you just ask, and yes that is even for non-class questions such as what show is good, what movie to watch or what he did over the weekend.
He's a pretty good professor. Don't need the book, take good notes and you'll be fine
Englund is passionate about economics and cares about his students. While the book is not at all necessary, coming to class is as there are graded clicker points and he does not provide notes online. While he presents the material clearly, he often moves much too slowly which can make the class dull. Overall, he shows great enthusiasm.
Good professor who definitely cares about Econ. If you go to class and study and get the tests from the previous years you will be guaranteed a B. I however found it hard to get an A in the class because most of your points come from the tests. Overall easy B hard A and a good professor.
Jeremy's class is tough and you cannot get by with not reading and doing the homework. However he is always willing to help when needed and will answer emails no later than 24 hours after you email. Overall the class was tuff but do-able.
Doesn't teach you out of the book, teaches you what he thinks is important. His lectures are a mess, he takes forever to get to the point. Narcissist. Oh well though, its college.
Lectures are well planned. He gives you plenty of time to take notes. All in all I liked the class. The only issue is that most of the points come from the tests and they are so few questions it's challenging to get an A on them.
Passed the class with a solid B but wouldn't recommend taking Dave if you don't have to. You never use the book. Make sure you go to class like everyday because clicker questions are a huge part of your grade. Drops a test score but tests are iffy sometimes. Final review was dumb he basically said "well you have it in your notes."
I really enjoyed his teaching, he makes jokes and keeps the mood light for long lectures. He helps people understand the material on an everyday level. You have to be in class for clicker points which are only given for correct answers. You cannot have any electronic devices out during his class or you're basically screwed.
Solid teacher, he is entertaining. Must show up to class for an A or B. Not an electronics guy, so no cell phones or laptops allowed, even for note taking. Overall I would recommend.
Great teacher. For students experienced in Econ class may be slow, but concepts are explained well and thorough. His brand of humor is dry but funny and he keeps you interested. I would heavily recommend him over Aziz if you can help it.
David Englund is a narcissistic professor that makes a 200 level class harder than it should be. He rarely posts a study guide for tests, and when he does, it's less than 12 hrs from the time you have to take the test. His form of study guides is "look over your notes", and then he puts stuff on the test not in your notes. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Englund's 201 class is pretty simple. Graded by 5 tests with 1 dropped, and the other 20% are clicker points. His humor is dry and some might say he seems rude but you can tell he's just trying to spice things up a little bit. Some test questions catch you off guard even if you don't skip but this isn't a hard class if you put any effort into it.
Make sure you show up, clicker points are vital. Tests are difficult, it helps to read and analysis the book because some test questions are book info. Lectures are his main way of teaching so there is no homework. Eager to meet and help students during his office hours. Overall hes a good guy who wants you to learn and pass but effort is required.
Clicker points are a big deal in this class, all information is provided through the lecture, and PowerPoint slides are not provided online so regular attendance is an absolute must. He's a quirky guy but is, in my opinion, a very competent teacher. Class should be fairly easy provided you always attend.
David plugs this class a lot during his Principles of Micro lecture and it's true that it looks great on a resume so it's worth taking for that reason alone. However, don't expect to enjoy yourself. Most everyone in the class is just gritting their teeth in order to fill their resume. It's a pretty loveless affair even for most returning members.
Dr. Englund is very passionate lecturer. You need a clicker and license, otherwise you miss out on a huge percent of your grade. Lecture attendance is critical, nothing's on Blackboard. Pay attention in class. The tests have some straightforward questions, but a lot of questions make you really think. Take good notes and don't skip this class.
Professor Englund does a great job explaining tough concepts, and cares that students understand the topics. He relies heavily on clickers, so you better show up to class (counts for 100 of your 500 points). 4 tests (drop 1) and a final. Some extra credit opportunities during lectures. Lectures can get a bit boring, but overall a great teacher.
Mr. Englund is an excellent professor to take this class with. He's very thorough during lectures and happy to help students with question. He attempts to make everything relatable to the real world. You must attend class and have a physical clicker, not the on your smart phone. No technology besides a clicker is allowed in his class.
Daily clickers that make up a large portion of your grade so you have to go to class. Englund is very unhelpful outside the classroom and also hard to get a hold of. His tests are hard, get ahold of someone with his tests from last semester and study those and you should do fine. Very strict about cell phones and will kick people out.
Englund is a funny guy who cares about the subject and makes pretty good real-life examples. Show up to class because clickers are 20% of your grade. Don't buy the book. You won't use it. Tests are hit and miss with difficulty. If you study and show up to class, an A is definitely possible though.
David Englund cares about Econ but is not a good teacher. He uses tricky clicker questions to lower your grade. No homework, 4 tests and the final. Dont buy the book.
Class with England was interesting, that's for sure. Make sure you go to class and take good notes. You DO NOT want to get caught on your phone during his class. Tests can be difficult, but if you find someone who has old test, they are like 90% the same thing.
Great Guy. if you sit in the front he will love you
David Englund's a solid choice. The class is scored through multiple choice and clicker points. 5 tests, one dropped. If you want to learn something take Englund.
Keeps it interesting and tries to have fun. Pretty easy class. 9/10 would recommend.
The clicker questions make it impossible to pass the class when skipping, therefore always read the book and start strong. Understand the first units otherwise you will be lost in the last.
Very clear with his expectations. Must go to class in order to get clickers. Sit towards front for chances for extra credit. Takes breaks in lecture to let you relax. One test is dropped which is great. Doing the reading really helps. Great professor. If you really want to LEARN econ, this is the professor for you.
Amazing teacher. Very clear when explaining content. One of the best teacher I've ever had. Pretty easy class just don't skip because not only will you miss clicker question, you will be behind in lecture. He also doesn't put notes online so it will be hard to catch up. Just show up and you'll be fine. If you participate you get extra credit.
Hes really good at explaining the concepts so everyone understands. You have to show up for class other wise nothing will make sense. He does clicker questions everyday too. I really do like the way he teaches and he makes it easy to learn
Best prof I've had at NDSU. No homework besides studying notes from class. Must attend for 5 clicker points a day and for notes. tests are multiple choice and 33 questions and the worst one gets dropped. Don't be on your phone in class, show up, take notes and you'll do fine. If you participate you can earn easy extra credit.
Definitely one of my favorite professors here at NDSU, he has good lectures and takes the class relatively slow. I would say that he does use a lot of masculine models and examples, and he calls on people a lot. Otherwise make sure you take good notes and you will pass the class.
Englund is a good professor and a nice guy. The only downfall to this class is how important tests are. There is no homework, and I believe the only reason I am earning a B is because I am not the best test taker.
Loved having Professor Englund!! He made class fun by not just droning on in front of everyone but by having us engage and give opinions. He does daily clicker points on a physical clicker so you have to show up. Also he does not allow phones or laptops in his class.
He teaches very well just show up and take notes and you should have no problems. He will give you everything you need to know in class
Easy class if you go to lecture and pay attention. Dave is very engaging and easy to talk to.
Englund is very strict, hard to get ahold of, and makes tests very difficult. He does not review in class nor does he give students a review for the tests. Rather he says "just look over your notes and you should do fine." Also, clickers are very important if you wish to have a good grade.
If the class is online, don't take it. Ive heard he's better in person.
Mr. Englund was one of my favorite professors. His class is pretty easy if you show up, take notes, and do the clicker questions. He also didnt really assign homework. Tests and clicker points made up almost all of the grading. He also gives you bonus points if you answer questions during class. I never even bought the textbook.
I enjoyed having David as an Econ professor. I didn't find the class particularly easy by any means but it wasn't because of his teaching. He provides you with great notes and is very gracious when it comes to grading. Your grade is based off of four exam scores and clicker points. If you work hard to understand the material, you will pass.
He is a fine teacher. I understand Econ and it struggle with this class and I honestly didn't learn anything. He just lectures and tests are based off things he says and how he thinks not off of definition. He is relatable and makes lecture somewhat interesting. Lots of clicker points that make class mandatory, but you get to make up points.
He is clearly very passionate about what he does, his lectures are interesting. Be sure to take extensive notes and don't miss any classes. Good teacher but he hates technology. Was required to buy a physical clicker even though there is a free app, no content posted online, won't stream class under any circumstances, even when i had covid.
Passionate about teaching. No technology allowed (not even a graphing calculator), but you are forced to buy a $35 clicker from NDSU. Don't need to buy the textbook (Professor doesn't recommend it). The only things graded are the 5 exams and clicker questions during lectures.
For teaching an ag class I thought a requirement would be knowing what a combine is. He is an economist but does not know a thing about ag. Class wasn't hard but I dont know why NDSU would hire this clown.
He was very entertaining
One of my favorite professors but the class is more difficult. The professor keeps the content interesting by using people in class as examples. He also makes dumb jokes frequently. You can tell he is passionate with teaching and loves what he does. He doesn't allow any electronics. Its all paper and pencil and physical clickers.
The class is fun to go to and during lectures it feels like you learn a lot. When the exams come you can study for as long as you want but good luck. His tests are all critical thinking so not lot of it is on the notes we took. If his exams were a little easier and focused more on the notes it would be a better class over all.
One of the better professors I've had so far. It is lecture heavy but explains it very good and makes it easy to understand. Makes jokes to lighten up the mood. Show up everyday because everyday is worth clicker points, and helps as a buffer for tests. He drops the lowest test and 6 days worth of clicker points. I would 100% take his class again.
I would not take another class taught by David. He is a good lecturer, but the tests are extremely difficult as it seems he expects you to know more than he teaches you. He does daily clicker questions, some participation-based, but most are not. He does not allow any technology in the classroom, so if you like digital note-taking, look elsewhere.
He is a good guy that definitely loves what he does. He loves to engage with the class. He tells a decent amount of cheesy jokes and he loves the San Diego Pades. You get graded on clicker questions, so you have to show up. The tests are difficult because he grades on you understanding the concepts not the definitions.
Worst professor I ever had. Took him over a week to contact me back after an email I sent him and he apologized by saying he "did not see it in time".. His tests had nothing to do with the notes. He also likes to talk about himself a lot like the world revolves around him. Sorry bud, it doesn't.
He is the best professor I've had so far in college. He makes sure that you understand what he is teaching. You need to be in class to get the notes for the exams. He is always open to questions and is willing to help. Your grade is based on only 4 tests and clicker points but if you pay attention in class you could get all the points for clickers.
He is an interesting guy. He is very passionate about what he does & tried to make his lectures interesting. He gets the class involved & discussion & might call on you during class, so pay attention. He hates electronics & will kick you out if he catches you. The tests are ridiculously hard because he asks very challenging questions.
David Englund puts up a slide with few words on it and then briefly talks about it then attempts to compare it with baseball cards and beer. If your looking for a class to zone out and forget what he is talking about go right on ahead and take this class, if you want to get in touch with him don't bother emailing him he wont get back to you.
breakdown of the course is clicker points (have to be in person to receive these points) and tests. Tests are in person and are fairly hard. If you show up to class everyday and get the clicker points and get at least a C on the test you'll be fine. Adds extra points end of semester
4 tests that are pretty hard and he creates his own questions. drops the lowest score and then 1 final lecture has clickers daily so attendance isn't required but thats where you learn and get points. no homework except studying and if you listen and take notes you learn he loves what he does he enjoys work and makes it interesting.
David is a great professor. It was his first semester at USD and all the students enjoyed him. You must show up every day to receive quiz points (one question beginning of class) He has 6 homework assignments where you work in groups and create study guides (really easy). 3 exams that cover everything in class. No need to purchase book, seriously.
