Best teacher at Riddle
No Comments
Great teacher. Makes you understand in an easy way
Cares.....he really cares....and rules hardcore
Far and away the best prof in the Aeronautical Science department. He went over stuff we learned in Aerodynamics, and explained it in easier to understand ways. His tests are reasonable but require you study. He's stubborn but fair. Outstanding.
Makes intricate material understandable and practical. Always gives 100% in class and is always on the students side for extra help or to settle a difference of opinion. One of Riddles best!
pretty much good! He is awesome!
Esser was extremely helpful in the classroom, as well as helping out with those frustrating times everyone was faced with during the chaotic registration and add/drop periods at this disorganized school.
one of the best professors at riddle! great teacher! you really learn from his class.
He takes care of students well!!
Take flt. tech analysis with this man if you want to learn nothing! who knows that the hell he was tlakin about all semester. STUPID CAMA's are DOS based programs from which you learn nothing as well. Take RUTT or anyone else for this class.
esser was a great teacher! his teaching style makes it easy to learn. i think that esser is one of the best at the school. the class is easy if you listen in class. the cama work is not that bad but it can be a little boring. overall the class was great.
Grade Nazi! He doesn't budge on grade desputes and is set on his rules. In the end you always come out with a better grade than you thought. He does a great job teaching. Really dedicated to answering any questions related to aviation. Smart guy..
Possibly the most useless class ever devised. Esser is worthless.
he really takes care of students, and he really acts like he wants to help you
VERY SMART and NICE GUY!!! HE is a math and physics fanatic. Tricky and hard tests and quizzes. Suprise quizzes. Tough grader. Fair with his policies, and a little extra credit which is good. If you are not crazy about math, phys, or deriving problems, or not good at word problems. He teaches like its and ENGINeer class. Dont expect easier teachers
Makes the class more complicated than it already is. The study guides are useless when preparing for the test, does not help, difficult to understand, and assumes the class has info from cyberspace. Unpredictable pop up quizzes are so hard that it's impossible to prepare. Take the make up final totally impossible to take. Stay away from him.

Dave is a good teacher, he groups you on assignments, and he gives helpful test reviews for you to study. He tells you things ahead of time and he's pretty clear on what he's teaching. Pretty easy class if you pay attention and do the assignments.
Stay the hell from him. He is the Worst
DONT TAKE HIM for any classes especially Aircraft Performance Class!!!
If Esser is the only choice for performance class, don't take him. Since Esser is the only one teaching Summer 2007 AS-310, don't take him even if he is the only choice. Aircraft Performance is real hard, and he makes it more difficult than it is. Stay away from. He is the worst AS professors.
Great professor. Explains things in a way which leaves your perspective changed. I learned so much from this class. I feel like I could TEACH this class now, he imparted the wisdom so well.
Lousy professor. Does not explain things in a way which leaves your perspective changed. I learned nothing from this class. I feel like a retard. If you say Esser is good, you are a fool. Esser Shmesser. The worst professors that makes things more complicated than they are. Stay the **** away from him in all classes
great Prof. can not find anything worng with him.
Don't take him unless you want to torture yourself. He should not be a teacher in 1st place.

He is really nice and gives you a lot of chances to do well in the class with the labs and extra credit points. He even cruves the final grades.
Extremely knowledgable. Not hard to get a good grade. Lots of opportunities for points.
yeah give him a break i got an A in his class lol...
don't take him half of the class fails or drops out. I ended up getting a high B. He doesn't like to go over old material. He has a problem with people going to the restroom.
When this class started I was excited to learn more about aircraft performance. Now I am totally glad to be done with it.This teacher does not know how to teach. He reads off a powerpoint even the examples he reads. He treats students as if we are in middle school stopping class if someone gets up and goes to the bathroom.Don't take at all costs!!!
HORRIBLE class!!!! Has the weirdest rules I've ever seen out of a teacher and his teaching style is a joke. The material is pointless and I didn't learn one damn thing. Not much homework, but there are a good number of pop quizzes that he thinks are easy when they're not. Oh, and you can't go to the bathroom in his class even though you paid for it
What ever you do DONT take Esser unless there is no other teacher available. If one of the students he likes is late he will wait to take attendance until after they come in then other days he will wait until someone gets up to go to the bathroom and mark them absent. Hes ridiculous. Reads example problems off the overhead and considers it teaching
this class made me want to shoot myself in the face. i hated going to this fukin class not because of the material but because i couldnt stand being "taught" by someone just reading material off a powerpoint.
Only halfway through the semester, but for people are registering for classes now, don't be scared of Esser. He's really not a bad guy. He's let up big time on his bathroom thing, I haven't heard him flip out once yet. Tests are tricky but he gives you all the equations. The quizzes, however, are very random and tough. Overall a very good teacher
Aerodynamics was a pretty hard class. He's a really smart guy and knows his stuff, fairly good teacher, just made his first test really hard, I don't kow why.
This guy knows his material pretty well!! VERY SMART GUY! However, he doesn't know how to convey the information so that our generation understands it! Class might seem simple, that is until the first test. Awesome guy, but not for this class.
Very confusing lectures. I couldn't concentrate on his lectures and would zone out (my grades reflect it) I think if you put effort into it, you should be fine. His tests are multiple choice w/theory and his pop quizzes mean you shouldn't miss too many classes or your average will go down
Probably the smartest guy at Riddle, but not the best teacher. Does not convey the material to class in a way that is useful to the class, i.e. tries to show pilots how he derived formulas and etc...not very helpful in the cockpit and all just 'extraneous information.' Tries to be helpful but the material is tough. Gives ALOT of work for AS420
Dr. Esser is soo enthusiastic. He made the class laugh and kept us awake long enough to hear what he had to say. He has everything already typed in a word document (not good). It?s very hard to understand a math/physic type class like this when none of the problems are actually being worked out. Instead of using only the word documents for the exam
Overall a good teacher. He tries hard to help you understand the topics. A little bit math heavy for a class full of pilots. Quizzes can be hard but the tests aren't too bad as long as you study. Offers an extra credit paper too.
Let me tell you what.. This guy loves to see the class fail. He gathers up the quizzes, which are all pop quizzes, and is surprised that the class is doing poorly. Is it a bad thing when the class average overall is below a 65%. Nevertheless, he still refuses to change his teaching methods and will have no problem failing everybody.
Professor knows the material and tries to teach the class as best as he can. If you don't like to read the chapters from the book as assigned by the professor, don't expect to get an A in the class. Not even a B..If you don't read the material and don't do the homework, it is a VERY hard class!!
He's a nice enough person, but not the best teacher. He knows the material very well but he doesn't know how to teach the material in a way that we can understand. If you don't read the book religiously don't expect an A. All of his quizzes are pop quizzes and they're hard. He offers he extra credit paper because if he didn't everyone would fail.
He is a great professor. He is a little hard with the pop quizzes. But if you don't do well on one or two, it gets dropped. Make sure to review the material before class. His test questions are straight forward. Gives opportunities for extra credit. He is always willing to help you out. He is very friendly and approachable. I recommend him!
Aircraft Performance. Great professor. Very passionate and knowledgeable about what he does. Read the material beforehand and study; normally the class will do poorly on the first test, but ace the 2nd. Gives PLENTY of chances for extra credit (essay, retake of a test, etc.).
Prof.Esser is a VERY knowledge person. He was a top graduate in his class, and he has degrees from AS, CS, you name it. He also holds an ATP with A320 class rating. Thousands of PIC hours. His class is not easy, most people were screwed up initially, but if you LEARN and STUDY HARD, you will end up with an A, cuz he gives lots of extra credits!
Dr. Esser is a knowledgeable, and fair professor. I just finished a summer class with him. He communicates the material well, and works with those who fall behind in understanding since the material can be complicated. I look forward to taking him again in the Fall for an even harder Aeronautical Science class (AS 310).
Absolutely the worst professor I have ever taken. Gives pop quizzes that absolutely nobody passes. doesn't make one bit of sense during his lectures, and just repeats himself if you ask him to clarify. teaches math problems off of word documents, like anybody is going to understand that. DO NOT TAKE. Lectures are long and absolutely horrific.
People give this guy such a hard time. If you show up to class, pay attention, and take notes, you should get an A. Very energetic and gives lots of extra credit. Two tests and pop quizes. Pop quiz's could be hard if you don't pay attention.
David is a great guy. He knows what he is talking about and dedicates an entire week for exam review. Take notes in class and read them before each session. Only two tests, but lots of extra credit (research paper can give up to 10 extra points). There is also a challenge exam at the end of the semester to raise your grade. Would take him again.
Makes no sense at all! Talks way too fast. Extremely hard pop quizzes. You will fail. If you have a question. Ask, but expect a very confusing non-answer.
Avoid this professor !! he knows what he is teaching and is a potential in his area, unfortunately the way he teach is very confusing, I do not recommend to take this professor for performance or aerodynamics . with this teacher you wont learn much and definitely will not have A, "extra credit", very hard test and quizes. save your money "run"
This class combines performance and aerodynamics basically. I didn't do well in either of those classes and I got an A in this class. Not because it was easy (which it was), but I actually learned a lot. This guy makes even the hardest concepts very understandable in just a few words. Highly recommend this professor for this or any other class.
If you're gonna take his class please take notes! Pop quizzes are only easy if you paid attention to lectures. Lectures as energetically as he can despite hour of the day. Extra credit opportunities range from long paper to small quiz contest. Textbook needed for homework.
Don't even think about big NO
Professor Esser was amazing. He is a realist in the stile that he teaches. He covers the practical stuff. Course work is a good amount however not hard. As long as you put in the work you are gaurenteed an A. He grades based on contract grading. So if you do 4 papers, 6excises, and one final paper, you get an A.
Pay attention in class, take lots of notes. Study the notes for 30 mins to an hr at home and you will pass all the quizzes (Adds up to one test grade). The exams (only 2 - NO FINAL) are 25 questions with 3 multiple choice options. Do about 3-4 hrs of studying for each test and you'll do great. You can retake 1 exam! DO THE EXTRA CREDIT PAPER!
Esser is an extremely smart guy, and sometimes he can be confusing because he's too intelligent . All in all, it was a very interesting class, but he's going to make you work for it. He gives you the opportunity for a make up exam and an extra credit research paper that can give you TEN points on your final grade. Would take again.
Very tough course.. Gives no slack. Lots of random pop quizzes that are very difficult. Does offer some extra credit and a chance to make up for screwing up on one of the tests but pretty difficult course with him.
Esser is a very smart professor. Actually he's too smart and has a hard time bringing his level of expertise down to a students level. His pop quizzes are very tough but he drops your two lowest grades and gives you an opportunity for bonus quiz points. DO THE BONUS PAPER! It can bring your grade up 10pts
Great teacher and Person. Very accessible if you need to meet with him, comes into class 15 minutes early almost every day to review last classes topics (Pay attention he gives you the answers for the pop quiz if there is one that day). Pay attention in class, if you're on your phone and don't study you wont get an A (Formula sheet for every test)
His quizzes are 30% overall grades and can be anything in his lecture.... you have been warned. Make sure to read up what was taught last lesson before heading into his class
Long lectures, good analogies. Try not to fall asleep, though. Very little class interaction beyond the occasional question asked by a student.
Professor Esser is great at explaining aerodynamic concepts and theories and he even gives you the opportunity to earn a whole 10 point letter grade bonus with a research paper. His class comes with a fair amount of difficulty but its manageable and he does care about your learning. He's also very energetic with his teaching and you won't be bored
Really nice guy but kinda like listening to a broken record. Very smart but repetitive as all get out (ask a question, get the exact same thing he said in class). Homework is all group work out of the book. Explains concepts pretty well but recommend taking with or after PS104 (very helpful).
The man, the myth, THE LEGEND. Dr. Esser is a real gem at ERAU. His lectures, although information saturated, are filled with hilarious comments, excellent comparisons to bring home the main points. He literally says everything that is on the test and pop quizzes right before he announces that there is one. If you are attentive, you will pass.
Tests are hard af but he's hilarious. Doesn't take attendance but gives pop quizzes often that counts for 30% of your grade so show up. He's a character.
Esser is a great guy, he's been with ERAU since 1978 so he has been teaching the class a while. He offers a bonus paper for TEN POINTS added to your final grade, and announces it at the beginning of the semester so you can work ahead. He also does lots of pop quizzes so come in ten minutes early since he reviews everything from the last class.
Great guy, very knowledgeable. Only complaint is that the math and theory is presented from a word document (hard to understand and boring). The pop quizzes are tricky. Come to class early for a review, some quiz topics are addressed. Overall would take again, its not as bad as it seems initially. Tests are reasonable difficulty.
I was really worried about taking this class, especially taking the prereq class with a different teacher. Prof esser is very helpful and he cares about what he is doing. Show up, take notes, study and youll get an A.
I would rather drop out of college and be homeless for the rest of my life than have him as my professor. WORST PROFESSOR I have had in my 4 years. Please wait a semester and take someone else.
Professor Esser is a very well-intentioned guy with very poor ability to teach. His 2 hour lectures are packed into a 50 minute class, so he tries to explain things way too quickly. His Canvas page is under-developed. under normal circumstances a class like this would be very easy but Esser makes it seem a lot harder.
Overall, a solid professor. Youd be fine as long as you pay attention to his lectures and take notes. His instructions are a bit vague sometimes but hes always available for questions.
Professor Esser is a great guy but he makes you not want to come to class because of the way he teaches. He teaches off of a 98-page word document and makes you watch lectures and take notes to go over that same lecture in class. I got an A in the class because of the extra credit and challenge exam, or else I would have gotten a D.
Dave is too smart for his own good. His Canvas page is severely underdeveloped and he teaches everything too fast to properly comprehend. Be ready to put in a few hours every week to study. Has pop quizzes that he opens 5 minutes before class starts, so come early. Only has 2 exams and a makeup exam. Lectures are posted on his Canvas.
Professor Esser is honestly one of the most genuine teachers that I have ever had during my time at ERAU. He makes sure to know your name, which is great! Unfortunately, his teaching style could be improved a little. He references a long document called his lecture notes which are hard to follow, and give you random pop quizzes without warning.
"The New speed is the old speed divided by the weight ratio". This is all that will be said in class.
Genuine guy with a lot of knowledge but his teaching style could use some work. If you want to pass, you have to watch the lecture videos as he does not go through everything in class. He teaches off of a word document which is tough. 2 exams and a challenge exam, with occasional pop quizzes. Exams werent terribly hard.
Long and repetitive lectures that are had to pay attention to.
Dr. Esser is a good professor who is humorous, gives good, engaging lectures. He is very great with tests and answering questions.
Overall good professor. Very clear with what is expected and to the point lectures. He only graded AS 120 with 4 exams (open note/open book), just make sure to get a decent grade on the exams.
Amazing Professor! The class was pretty simple, it consisted of 4 tests (open book/note) with no homework. The lectures were all available as slideshow presentations, just make sure to get good grades on the tests!
Professor Esser is a fantastic guy. Super genuine dude and always a blast to talk to. His teaching could use some work but his class isn't bad. You need to watch his hour-long videos online to pass the tests. There are only 2 tests but they're open note so take good ones. Also random pop quizzes so be careful about being late.
Strongly recommend taking this class in the fall/spring semester. Learning all of aerodynamics in a single month during the summer is extremely hard to do. Prof uses a 13k word doc file, and reads off of it for 2 hrs, so the class makes you want to fall asleep. Strongly recommend drinking a cup of coffee during class. Quizzes are very hard.
The new speed is the old speed times the square root of the weight ratio.
open note, but that does not mean you can do well. it is very lecture heavy
The most boring class to sit through in my whole experience at ERAU. However, its very easy to get an A+ because he drops 3/7 quizzes, and gives you a makeup exam if you do poorly on one. If you want the grade take Prof. Esser. If you want an engaged and interesting class, don't take him.
This class will bore you to death since it is literally death by word document. He does drop 3 out of 7 pop quizzes and a makeup/challenge exam at the end to replace one of the 2 tests. There's only one thing you need to know: The new speed is the old speed times the square root of the weight ratio.
A in Physics 1 and Physics 2, and getting an A in college algebra, pre calculus, Business Calculus, Calc 1, Calc 2, Calc 3, and all the way up to differential equations will not help you pass the AS 309/AS310 class. Pre requesites PS 103, Pre Calculus and Business Calculus met will not help you pass the class. PS 104 complete you will still fail.
Positives: 7 quizzes. He drops 3. 4 tests, will drop 1 of them. The easiest class to get an A at Riddle. Negatives: Teaches off a 13k Word doc for the whole semester. No engagement from the class, so it feels very quiet and uninteresting.
Easy A but so so so boring. Open note 2 Tests + 7 quizzes (3 dropped), and an optional challenge exam. Teaches off of a 13k doc and just yaps at you, i fell asleep a lot. No hw but pop quizzes are a big chunk of your grade so dont miss class. Id only take him again bc all of his classes follow the "easy a" format but not bc of him AT ALL.

Prof. Esser is really knowledge in the subjects taught in class, but it teaches it in an unconventional way. He teaches strictly off of a Word Doc that he scrolls through. He drops 3 of the lowest pop quizzes, there's 2 exams, no final, and a challenge exam (which if you better replaces your lowest test score grade).
Esser was a horrible professor, during our class he repeatedly came to class unprepared and seemed not to care at all about the class.
Summer A: Only 7 days of in-class, you are allowed to miss 5. 7 QandA papers and 7 data/theory and response questions. You work in a group of 4-5 so as long as you divide work evenly, its an easy A, and you can finish this class in 3.5-4 weeks.
Easy A, but that's about it you will not learn anything, but the very easy class drops one exam and 4 out of the seven pop quizzes. so if you want an easy A, take him if you want to actually learn performance, take someone else.
Prof. Esser's AS310 is a straightforward class, with an easy A if you engage with the material. The lectures are lecture-heavy, but using unstuck ai alongside the textbook can make the content more manageable.
Dr Dave is great I took him for AS 309 and 310, use your notes for exams! Use any math tools.
I could tell why the rating is so low but actually it's easy to get an A in his class because it's open book for pop quizzes and exams. You can learn a lot if you pay attention to him. Not a flexible professor but he is nice.
Overall, very boring class. All taught off a 100 page word document and the material wasn't super interesting to me either. He's enthusiastic about teaching but it's hard to care when he just goes off his word doc every day. Got an A. All the tests and quizzes are open note so it's not too bad.
Overall this class was extremely boring but very easy. Dr. Dave taught his lectures from a scanned PDF with very little visual aids. Pop quizzes were abundant however they were very easy if you took notes as both quizzes and tests were open note. Dr.Dave also has a very confusing way of doing grading it is all on a Word document and not on canvas.
