Strict but fair. Prepares you for his exams
Gives extra credit.
He's nice enough, but his class is BORING
If you work hard..it's worth it. I went into the final with a "C" but studied hard and ended up with an "A."
Very arrogant and very boring.
I don't know where people got arrogant from, he's a little abnormal but he gets the job done. I had international students in my class and he tried to hook them up with EC. HARD tests, quizzes not too bad. You gotta study like a madman to get an A though.
Be prepared to fall asleep in class and make sure you bring a pillow and a blanket. With the combination of a dark, freezing cold room and his lullaby like tone, you will sleep like a baby. Tests are hard, quizzes are pointless and easy.
Rude, condescending, attempts at making hard working students feel inferior, very unhelpful, will reject e-mails if not using proper server(ridiculous), and inconsistent knowlegde base.
If he didn't include attendence to class in his grading system, it would be much easier to stay at home for 4 hours and read the book. Lectures don't provide new info. He justifies this by giving ridiculous ex cred. and therefore his class avg is high.
The most inconsiderate, rude, arrogant, unkind person I have ever met in my entire life. Worse class experience ever. Didn't learn a single thing. Tests are meant to trick you. Lots of extra credit is the only reason I passed.
A week before the final there were only 16 people left in the class left & on our last big test he gave out 9 F's! This is an indicator of bad teaching. He likes to give out bad grades so that he can feel inferior & his class is hard. DON"T TAKE HIM!
The dude has problems. Give him a break. Don't take his class - if he has no one to teach maybe he can spend more time at the shrink to evaluate why he has such a horrible attitude.
The subject is difficult; therefore, the class is difficult. He helps as much as he can without giving the answers to the questions. He gives lots of extra credit and gives a bank of questions which the test is derived from. I got an A with room to spare.
This professor does not belong in a fine school like Santa Monica at all. He has very bad attitude and he obviously have some racial problem and purposely misleads students he dislike. he needs to be evaluated extensively. He doesn't even know the answers
Be careful because he claims one thing, but does another. I think he teaches so he can feel superior. He has no patience and no compassion for his students.
He is a very helpful. What Professor gives you a question bank before the exam & reviews the questions with the class to clarify. He gives out extra credit and provides lecture handouts for every lecture.
PLEASE, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. IT WAS THE HARDEST AND MOST STRESSFUL TIME OF MY SCHOOL LIFE. I THINK THAT THIS PROFESSOR IS A FRUSTRATED NON-DOCTOR THAT ENDED UP BEING AN INSTRUCTOR. I PASSED THE CLASS WITH A "C", BUT ONLY B/C I WORKED EXTREMELY HARD.
good professor, he help all of his students succeed.
It was a hard class maybe the hardest I ever took but I enjoyed it and learned alot. He does help his students and even gives you extra credit but you have to know your stuff to get it though.
Great Teacher
Terrible teacher. Most of the class failed. At the beggining of the class he said he would drop your grade if you had the new edition of the book and by the end he said we should have the new edition. Very confusing tests and exam, he was no help. Do not take his class.
He prefers Physio over Anatomy so this class can be a bit boring and more difficult than it should be. But he does give you chances for extra credit. You have to know your stuff tho. No freebies. Read the book before going to class!!! Email him any questions early too.
if your going in to a health related field he is appropriately difficult. If taking bio to fill your requirements take it with Azuma. He is difficult, has little compassion blows through the material 1-2 chap/wk with quizzes every other week. looks down on those with little science background.
He is a great teacher with a lot of information. And what teacher would give extra credit? That is what makes him great, but what makes him bad is his cockiness in expecting you to think like graduate students who plan to major as physiologists. So I guess I can say he is rude at times too!
Worst teacher ever!!!! WARNING!DO NOT TAKE!TEST ARE HARD AND HIS LECTURES SUCK!!!THIS GUY IS THE WORST PROFESSOR AT SMC! HE'S EVIL AND WANTS HIS STUDENTS TO FAIL..I STUDIED FOR HOURS AND THIS WAS THE ONLY CLASS I DID BAD IN. DO NOT TAKE!!!
You will learn something from his lectures, and labs since he explains pretty well. He also gives extra credit. However, he is also a strict grader. Quizzes are almost every day, sometimes 2 a day. Quizzes and tests get harder. I wouldnt recommend him though for your first choice in professors. Only as a last resort.
This class is hard, and the material is complicated and difficult. But this teacher is on your side, and is always pleasant. He goes the extra mile by answering e-mails and offering study guides before each exam. His class is run with a positive attitude, and he tries to give everyone extra credit. He's really smart and super nice.
What a nightmare! huge ego, arrogant, thinks teaching is a dictatorship. poor lecturer, just reads off the overheads. class easy as long as read book. but hard to overlook his gigantic ego & distasteful comments.
He's definetely hard and weird but a great professor. He easly gives extra points in class but not to your exam papers. Even though I got A from his class, you should take this class by itself or with easy classes because anatomy is going to take all time you have. If you show your interest, you probably get at least a C.
He isn't an easy professor thats for sure. But he does give PLENTY of extra credit opportunities. If you are interested in sciences-this is a great intro courses to the human body. Very helpful study guides. just have time to study study study!
This teacher will discipline the class in which you will not have to worry amount disruptive students. He will weed out the morons and the people who are there to learn. You will work hard in this class and may not sleep a few nights studying the material. There are approximately 24 chapters that you will go over throughout the semester.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! The only thing you will learn in his class is how to deal with arougant doctors who think they know everything (when they really don't) Very condinsending, do yourself a favor and run far away from this teacher.
This prof teaches a difficult class with a good attitude. He has the integrity to cover the material within an incredibly short time. A lot of winter teachers skip whole chapters. Exams are hard, but he gives study guides. He is very helpful in lab and class - if you show real interest in learning. I recommend him way over the other phys profs.
Brilliant man, dedicated teacher. Provides a great deal of help online. Never fails to respond to a question. Demands respect in class and will insist you pay attention. He asks many extra-credit questions in every class, so study and raise your hand. If grades are low, he may give extra credit quizzes. This professor is on your side.
he's mean.
This prof is knowledgable and really wants his students to do well - he's very encouraging. I don't know why he doesn't teach physiology in the regular semester, because he is the best one this school has to offer. He offers test banks and extra credit to give you that extra push. He always fully answers any questions.
If you are going to pursue a health care profession, this is the man. I am now almost done with my BSN, and although he was annoying, and tough, I am AMAZED at how well he prepared me. His teaching STUCK. I have never come across a teacher this immaculately organized. If you want to be confident in your later patho courses, TAKE HIM. It's worth it.
Not helpful at at all. Does not explain information. Makes you feel like an idiot if you ask him a question. Assigns material not relevant to class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
I understand he tries to provide us with extra credit to pass the class but there is something about his character that unnerves me. He makes me very uncomfortable and unapproachable. I've always been intimidated by sciences so taking his classes just intensified my uneasiness. Take him at your own risk but be prepared to REALLY WORK.
TONS OF WORK AND MEMORIZATION!! Lots of EC points. Anal about spelling/grammar. HARD TESTS!!VERY demanding, esp in short semester. We studied 12 hours a day, 6 days a week and our group got C, C, D and F. Knows his stuff and conveys material VERY CLEARLY, but can flip back and forth between being cool and being an @$$hole. Picks on the "cool kids".
This guy gives EC often, but it only benefits those who are doing well in the class. The entire class performed so poorly he had to drop one of the four exam grades. He makes you feel poorly on a regular basis, and does nothing to help the situation. Absolutely terrible teacher - he should stick to competing in triathlons.
This prof is rooting for his students to succeed. He is the best science teacher i've had at smc, and I would take him again if he taught classes in my major. I learned much more than expected in no small part to his encouragement. The only students who would complain about this guy are people who don't do their work.Take him if you want to learn.
This was the first science teacher I had in SMC. Fortunately, I had a great experience learning with such good professor. Attend class, answer questions, and USE HIS POWERPOINT SLIDES! Also, you totally need to study the practice quizzes online. Good luck!
Only take this class if he's all that's available. He's rude, condescending and uses extra credit as a psychological weapon. Treats you like a 3rd grader and no one respected him in my class. You won't likely get a bad grade but you will hate life for taking him for 16 wks. Organized lectures but will not help u much, ego centric and control freak.
hm, wondering why he got such low evaluations. thought he was a very, very fair teacher. gives out tons of extra credit and is very clear in presenting the material. i would most definitely take him again if i were to do it all over again. highly recommended.
He's old school, which seems to bother the younger students. the material is tough, but he offers lots of extra credit, and quizzes are straight off the textbook's online quizzes. I studied 2-3 hours a day. Definately buy the book a month or 2 early and start making flashcards or using the books online study materials if you can't invest much time
He's a very good teacher. Very clear, very knowledgable and gives out powerpoint files to help you take notes. Also gives out LOTS of extra credit. He is pretty rude and condescending, so don't take his class if you are sensitive and do NOT take this class in the summer! ouch!
He's not a bad teacher just a horrible, horrible person. He is really mean and insensitive. A lot of work like 3 chapters per week or more. I would say you can learn a lot more from reading his power points than from his lectures or the book.Do not take him even if it is the only section u can get into, i've never worked so hard for B!!
From a person who is doing very well in his class, you need to WORK your BUTT OFF! VERY strict, POWER-TRIPS like hell, is very discouraging at times, and will not like you if you try to be nice to him. I loved the subject but hated him as a teacher.Lots of EC bc he knows he's mean. You must be on top of your game, study 30 hrs/wk, seriously.
Fickbohm is everything previously stated. He does not give away grades but if you work hard you will get whay you deserve. Listen in class make notes and pay attention to his emphasis. Do the multi-choice he gives to you on a silver platter. Look on the website for the extra credit he gives away.
Dr. Fickbohm is a great educator. However, don't take any other classes with Anatomy 1 because it will take all your free time. Be prepared to spend at least 30 hours a week besides the class and online assignments. He gives a lot of extra credits: use them to your advantage. Do all your A.D.A.M. homework, spend time in the laboratory:an A is yours
Dr. Fickbohm is NOT a hard professor. The class will be difficult because it is Anatomy, but he gives so much extra credit, it's hard not to get an A or B if you actually try. Personally, I think he is uninteresting and untalented. He is VERY anal (what size paper you use, last name first, etc) and loves to use his red pen!
Took this class a few years back and still haven't forgotten his major ego. He needs to be in the military - the captain of a ship or something so he can be the worshipped dictator that he secretly wishes he could be. And yeah, the class is hard, of course. No complaints here about that, but his arrogance made for an excruciatingly long semester...
Power trips! Anal, arrogant, and some what rude. If you can get past his personality you'll be okay. Class is time consuming no matter who is teaching, he just makes it painful. Offers EC, takes role everyday, ez quiz every week, and notes are ok.
WORST TEACHER AT SMC I HAVE HAD YET. NO SOCIAL SKILLS. DOESNT BELONG IN SMALL CLASSES WITH THE PERSONAL ENVIRONMENT SMC BRINGS. BELONGS AT LARGE UNIVERSITY WHERE STUDENTS ARE JUST NUMBERS. VERY NEGATIVE TEACHER AND PERSON IN GENERAL. INCREDIBLY HARD GRADER. STALE AND SOMTIMES DISRESPECTFUL HUMOR. NO TIME TO BREATHE WHILE TAKING HIS CLASS. MINIMUM
CONT- MINIMUM OF 30 HOURS PER WEEK OUTSIDE CLASS OF STUDYING. THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS HE SPENT LECTURING ON ALL THE REASONS WHY EACH STUDENT WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OBTAIN AN "A" IN HIS COURSE. HOW MOTIVATIONAL IS THAT? STAY AWAY FROM DR. FICKBOHM. MANY MORE HELPFUL LIFE SCIENCE TEACHERS OUT THERE, WHICH ISNT HARD WHEN COMPARING TO HIM.
Dr. Fickbohm is a great teacher. He is interested in the subject matter and that comes across to his students. His presentation of the material made me want to come back each week.
for physiology,Dr. Fickbohm is the best - he really knows his stuff. Makes it easy w/ downloadable power points and uses them quizzes are not hard, and if you sit up close, you'll be able to tell when one is coming up. He is on your side and wants you to succeed. what more can you want from a prof?
Dr Fickbohm has a very precise structure in his class. If you follow the things he asks for then you will do well. He gives a ton of extra credit and gives you a heads up on a lot of the things he will test you on ahead of time.
Fickbohm is terrible, he has no desire to actually teach his students but rather riddles them with information and no guidance. This style of teaching is the same as forcing yourself to read the entire textbook within a severely constricted time-limit for the sake of completing it. He is a terrible professor and miserable human being.
His work-load is out of this world and offers very little lenience regardless of excuse. Not interested in his students. Has little regard for how much his students learn. His deadlines seemed completely arbitrary anyway. Better off going with a different prof for Anatomy.
Hands down one of the worst at SMC. Don't expect to learn, just memorize, purge and move on. Play his games too, he's really good at that.Bottom line, he doesn't care. If you want a good class take Dr. Fink.
Dr. Fickbohm is an awesome teacher. He explains everything really well and he gives you lots of hints about your exams and quizes. You just have to listen and study. The ammount of work he gives is a lot but only to better you in the class. His structure is a very efficient way to study. He is a wonderful instuctor!
When I was taking the course, I could have sworn I was in hell. My hands were numb from doing A LOT of busywork and my brain was about to explode with the memorization workload. He is extremely strict. BUT! I did learn SO MUCH from this professor, and taking courses at other schools is a breeze now because he straightened me out.
Worst professor I?ve encountered. Ever. I?ve never been so stressed out and he does nothing to help build up an understanding of the subject. He sets his students up to fail miserably. A shame SMC has him on payroll. Avoid at all costs. Take Anatomy 1 at a different college if he?s the last professor for the subject.
He is a very fair teacher as far as grades, quizzes and exams. Yet, he is very unpleasant to deal with and needs everything done exactly the way he wants it. Don't get fazed by his nasty side during the first few weeks. (He tries to get you to drop the class.) He will mellow with time and try to help you succeed.
Very bad teacher. I don't recommend him. His tests & quizzes are extremely hard and his lectures are boring. Be ready to learn the textbook since his lectures are poor, and study at least 30h each week if you wanna pass his class.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Cares very little about learning. Just procedure (ie: proper stapling and e-mailing), is obsessed with extra credit opportunities that are tedious and take away from actual study time. Unreasonable and a horrible person to deal with. Unless this class is the ONLY thing you have to in your life, avoid taking with him.
Terrible professor. Obsessed with procedures and delights in his power over students. He treats everyone like they are idiots. Basically he is a glorified babysitter. If you like taking a course on your own then take him cause he won't teach you much.
Dr Fickbohm is very knowledgeable. He has a PhD in Neurobiology. He is an encyclopedia of knowledge. He expects you to know a ton. He will prepare you excellently if your goal is allied health, nursing, or public health. Be wary if you are constrained for time, because he piles on the workload like no other.
Worst professor ever! He is not interested in students learning. His ego is way too big and barely fits in the room with the students. Take another professor, he is mean, rude and not-professional. Can't believe he is still employed.
The class can be overwhelming at times and he's picky about silly things like the spacing on your emails and whether your paper is 8 1/2 x 11 or 8x10. But an A is pretty easy to get if you show up, follow his rules, and take the opportunities for extra credit.
Stay away!Take another Anatomy Class! This foo! does not teach U anything. U learn everything from the book. Gives way too much work. We started w/65 students & ended up w/20. If U have NO life then this class is 4 U. Don't take if U work, have other classes, kids, relationships, etc Stay away! Trust me.
He's funny, gives a lot of work to do but he is also fair. Tons of extra credit available. So make sure to take advantage of them and also stay on top of the MCQB's.
Very hard class and strict professor, but if you stay on top of the work and the studying, you can do well. Fickbohm definitely will not baby you, but it's Anatomy, so what do you expect?? Either deal with it or pick a different major. An A is not impossible if you are willing to put in the time and the work.
This class can be very difficult, the professor makes sure you are aware of how much work will be given on the first day. He expects students to show plenty of work and ask a lot of questions. He gives out a lot of extra credit, so take advantage. I enjoyed his class very much and i went the extra mile, i studied every day and read the textbook.
Dr. Fickbohm is obsessed with format in which things are written. The quizes are difficult, the tests are easy if you make sure to have all the correct information. I suggest forming a large group to split work with. Gives crazy extra credit, but collect as much as possible before it gets close to the final, because its worth half at that point.
If you enjoy learning from a book, this class is for you. Although attendance is mandatory, don't expect any thoughtful lectures to supplement your textbook readings. His only redeeming quality is that he gives extra credit like crazy probably to mitigate the fact that he's a lousy "professor" who doesn't care about his students. Stay away.
Took a hybrid course (1 less lecture per week, which means you're supposed to self-learn by reading the textbook and ask questions you have prior to showing up). Got more than 100% at the end after extra credit. In retrospect, I could have worked much less and still got an A. Easy A since he gives you 90% of the questions that will be on the test.
He keeps making weird jokes that I can hardly laugh. I wish he could just shu* up and teach only. He gives too much homeworks and gives the quizzes that he doesn't even know the answer. It's so amazing how he comes up with such quizzes :D GO FICKBOMB!
here's the deal, an A = 90-100 B=75 - 89 C=60 or higher 3 midterms, all 39% of your grade, 20% quizzes, 2% lab hours 5% LAB WORK (that takes hours to do) 7% participation and the final exam is about 27% of your grade...
HYBRID...The professor isn't so bad! Maybe he read all the horrible reviews on himself. Gives tons of extra credit so there's no way to not pass this class with a good grade. I had to drop since I had already taken the class and my nursing program didn't allow me to continue in the class,
I had high hopes for this class but ended up hating it.The lectures were boring, you didnt learn anything from them;he breifly talks about the chapters and doesn't explain things well. He expects you to study 30 hrs weekly, & if ure working and taking other classes seems impossible. Everything you learn is from the book. Avoid unless you got time.
I noticed over the course of the semester that Professor Fickbohm became a scapegoat for complainers and slackers that expected anatomy to be an easy course. In all honesty, everyone gets out of it what they put into it. The instructor is fine and he allows the students to dictate how the lectures are given. SO Much Xtra credit! Slackers be warned!
I would avoid. My experience; disheartening, confusing, and unfair. I'm not shy, but I had trouble approaching him to re-look over my essay, and I believe a good teacher should be fair...fair means you are willing to check for your own mistakes. He only tests rote memorization, not critical thinking, and he covers very little in class.
I rarely dislike professors and am a 4.0 student who works hard. He sucks. There''s no way around it. It''s a 100 self-study course. 1st exam is given on the material never discussed in lectures. We have never even looked at a human skeleton outside of the textbook pictures but are testing on it. Just NO.
I took his HYBRID class which means you are responsible for learning everything on your own. Class meetings are designed for asking questions and labs. Labs are quick and easy as long as you do EXACTLY what he says. I found this class very difficult. So much material was given that it was overwhelming. I prefer straight from the book material.
Be prepared to work and know it's going to be a tough class with lots of material to cover. Study hard for the quizzes. Each is worth 2% of your total grade and sometimes he doesn't even know the answer. Do ALL the extra credit he offers and you'll get an easy B. You'll have to work a little harder for that A but it's definitely possible.
Took this class in the fall (hybrid) & it was unnecessarily difficult. On one hand, he gives you the question bank for all the possible q's that will be on the test, but on the other hand, it's a packet of 600-700 q's. Literally. There's a lot of extra credit but even then the class felt like too much at times. C is possible tho. Also, books $400
The amount of work insurmountable. Too many insignificant rules. You spend more time reading his syllabus than doing homework. Gives tons of extra credit but would rather have had time to focus on book then all the extra work. He gives you quiz at start of every class 5 questions on projector and you have 1 min per question. Yikes! Test anxiety!
Hated his class! Horrible professor! Stay away! He is terrible at teaching, cant understand how he is still teaching.
Professor is the worst I ever had. Unrelated to grades etc. He is just a straight up bully. Very controlling and disrespectful to students in classroom. Try not to upset him, very strict. For those also concerned about grades, you will need 30+ hrs a week for this class. It takes over your life and is extremely demanding. Be prepared from day 1.
Pros: Students are encouraged to ask questions in class for extra credit. Bonus questions and extra credit assignments are huge grade boosters. Homework (question banks) guarantees at least a passing grade. Cons: Textbooks are outrageously expensive, and at least one of them (the lab manual) is mandatory. Help outside of class is minimal to none.
Not easy, but it's Anatomy. There's lots of memorization, & you're not going to get away with not doing the reading or not showing up, but he gives TONS of extra credit. He has a lot of OCD-type rules (if that'll drive you crazy, go elsewhere), but he's nice enough -- not as bad as he seems in the syllabus on the 1st day. An A is totally possible.
He's not mean or unpleasant, and his rules are very clear. He is generous with EC! The bad: impossible and unfair amount of work. You must: a) raise your hand often for extra credit (this gave me my A! You need to do it from day 1!) b) follow his rules c) prep for daily quizzes d) have good manners e) don't come late f)form group for test prep
The class is hard. Do the extra credit assignments and be prepared to study!! He is a fair man but you must stay on top of his assignments and cannot leave till last minute. I got an A and took another class taught by him.
Dr. Fickbohm made Physiology fun. While Physiology will never be easy.. (it is a science course.. so you will need to put in the work), it makes it better when you have a Professor who is enthusiastic about what they are teaching, can get the class engaged in course discussions, and even get a few laughs out of you like Dr. Fickbohm.
avoid this summer class like a plague!! only memorize. forget about learning anything. not fair at all!!!! quizzes had nothing to do with lecture or test.
Don't take this professor. If you don't have a job and want to spend every waking hour on a course then go for it. I considered changing my major after taking this course and I hope that he loses his job so that no one else wants to do the same!!! I'm only writing this to prevent other students from being discouraged about learning.
Anatomy is hard as well as being tons of work. I spent 18-20 hours/week outside of class. The good news is that he makes it SO clear what you need to do. The tests are taken from a question bank, but you have to learn all of them. Listen and put in the time, you WILL get an A. Tons of extra credit. Picky about format, just like the real world.
He basically gives you the test through a huge multiple choice question bank of 500 questions and picks 70 to be on the test and he gives a list of possible figures that will be on the exam. TONS of extra credit, this got me over 100% on exams so do ALL OF THE EC! It's A LOT if memorizing but put in the work and you'll get an A.
Yeah you have to study and memorize a lot, but most Anatomy courses are like that. He is friendly, kind and fair. TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT. You have the opportunity to memorize questions that will be on the exams, and figures are all available in the textbook. I wasn't working, but my friend who worked full time got an A. Do the work, you'll get an A.
I would call him a professor but that would mean he actually teaches... you basically teach yourself and come in for tests. He waste an hour every class talking about things that have nothing to do with the class and the rest of the class you listen to students ask questions that has nothing to do with the class.
Worst professor ever. He doesn't teach and his class is a waste of time. He doesn't care about his students doing well. The amount of work he gives is impossible to do, it's easy to fail even if you study. He shouldn't be a professor honestly. Don't expect an A or a B in his class even with extra credit. He needs to make his tests easier.
Don't take this class! I'm telling you right now.
Pros: He offers a lot of extra credit for you to stay ahead and can set you up for success and is specific on his expectations. Cons: Unnecessarily kurt and comparative of classes (likely for motivation) and doesn't do much lecturing. Pretty dry in terms of personality and unwavering on his resolve. Doesn't seem to care about students, etc.
Dr. Fickbohm is an excellent professor. If you have a job, (my case), and don't have time to dedicate to this class, you may need to take time off, as you will need to study at least five to six hours a day to excel in this class! Work hard and you're guaranteed an A. Don't work and you WILL FLUNK OUT! I'd take again in a heart beat. Five stars A+
Dr. Fickbohm made Physiology exciting and fun! If you put in the work, you will get an A. This is not an easy class; but he makes it totally doable, as he gives a lot of extra credit. MCQB questions are optional; but if you don't do them, odds are you WILL NOT pass! Do your part, put in the work, and everything will be OK. Excellent professor :-)
I'm surprised by the number of negative reviews for Dr. Fickbohm. He is a wonderful educator and a knowledgeable anatomist/ physiologist. He does give out A LOT of work. But it is 100% OPTIONAL. The question banks he assigns are used in his exams so studying them is a good idea. I took this class over the accelerated winter term and received an A.
Professor is kind, hes not there for a student to like him but he is there to teach. Hes very straightforward and gives a lot and I mean a lot of extra credit opportunities. Anatomy is already a very difficult class to take so he makes it easier for those who do study. I liked him and no many give EC, like he does.
Erratic behavior and lecturing habits. first test score dropped, second test everyone received 100 and extra credit because he printed the wrong exam .idiosyncratic behavior, callous, disorganized. Easy A? Yes, because of extra credit and all exam questions provided in advance. Maybe 30 mins total of dissection and actual learning.
Took Dr. Fickbohm's class alongside a full time job and still managed to get an A in the class. He's definitely strict about his class structure but is very straightforward about what you need to do in order to get an A. He offers a TON of extra credit, so take advantage of it. He really does care about his students and wants them to succeed.
At first I thought he was a great teacher because of all the extra credit he gave and by giving us a 600 question bank for every exam where he would pull the questions from but it was way harder. His lectures were kind of pointless except to get extra credit on the exam but he doesn't actually go over whats going to be on the test.
Hes rude and very discouraging. He doesnt care for his students
gives you a 600 multiple choice questions to solve and memorize before every exam. lots of extra credit during class and in exams but very strict about grading them. textbooks expensive and you need mastering phys for quizzes that are almost every week.
He's an alright professor, take him if you want a good grade. He gives plenty of extra credit to keep a high grade, but he makes you work for it. You're basically teaching yourself all the material from the textbook and he bases exams on a question bank he provides. Study the question bank, and do the extra credit then you will be fine.
I took fickbohm for both anatomy and physiology. I totally recommend taking his class. Just be ready for a lot of extra assignments and quizzes every class. If u do all the extra credit and memorize the questions he gives you before the exam, you will get an A. He is a super tough grader but the extra credit will save you.
The worst professor ever! He does not teach so you will need to teach yourself. He makes the class unnecessarily difficult by overloading you with work. Don't be fooled by the extra credit, because he will grade you down to count the 1 point of EC. Theres no clear grading rubric, so your grade is based on his mood and he does not care if you fail.
2 weeks in and this class was already a mistake, part of your grade is asking questions that he can't even answer. Lectures will put you to sleep. No study guides for exams. The first exam will be 90 MC questions plus 2 essay questions with barely any time to complete. You will have to teach yourself Oh and that expensive book has errors apparently
Worst teacher! cant even be considered a professor
Would not recommend. Lectures are too heavy. Taken online, probably the hardest class I have taken. Assignments were okay but does not help when you need it. Makes you do everything on your own. Cannot work with him. Choose someone else or else you'll regret it. More than 10 students dropped after the first week of class.
You've read the reviews, so you know how it is. & ur taking the class anyway so lets help you pass. Focus on reviewing facts/terms- alt answers & explanations too-tests are based on this *ask 3 questions about these per class* Lecture helps w/essay questions for tests. Attend all classes & be on camera for extra credit. Don't miss any assignments.
Exams based on reviewing facts/terms practice quizzes, alternative answers, & explanations of alt answers. 100 min for 90 multiple choice & 2 essays. Participate in class & do all assignments to pass. Quizzes every day. Don't take if you have a full course load or full time job, you won't have time to do well. Teacher is fine. Tough but fine.
Fall 2021: He is kind but makes students work for their grade by asking questions in class for points, weekly quizzes and assignments, and reading. You must read the book, and his lectures help clarify some of the dense topics in the readings. He offers extra credit, but you must work for it. I worked full-time, and getting an A is doable.
I Would not recommend. Lectures are too heavy. Lots of homework and reading chapter material and you have to put at least 40 hours p/w. 4-5 chapter every week you have to finish. It was the hardest class that I have taken. He caused me a lots of stress.
Horrible professor, stay away if you can! He was always behind on his lectures, but yet, we had a quiz or exam based on information we hadn't even covered. If he tells "don't worry this won't be on the quiz" you better memorize it, because it will be. I feel like he didn't really care if you failed his class. If you can, look for another professor
Lots of reading and at-home lab work. Online lab quizzes can be re-taken until you get 100%. Regular quizzes 5-10 timed questions. Hard grader when it comes to paper assignments - will dock you for adding anything extra than what's assigned or for not fulling explaining. Stay on top of readings/online lab work/study/extra credit & you'll be good!
This class wasn't that bad. The exams are hard but hes generous with extra credit. ask 2 questions every class & DO ALL THE EC TRUST ME! He can be a ridiculously TOUGH grader and dock for silly things. Biweekly(openbook) quizzes. lots of lab HW but the answers are given to you. I didn't do great on exams and was lazy at the end but I pulled a B.
Talks. A lot. His rambling made the semester so stressful for me. Nice man. Just... incredibly boring. Will make students ask questions for points. Grades tough, but hands out extra credit to "make up for it" (which is... questionable, but don't. Just take it.) I pulled an A while working full-time, so it's manageable. Don't slack, prepare well.
No concern or care for student success & understanding. Will ramble and stray from topic during lecture, lacks clear/concise instruction during lab, lecture and syllabus. NO corrections allowed on assignments. Be prepared to do all the work yourself and MEMORIZE the text. Questionable extra credit applications. Professor was not prepared.
Don't take him His lectures were always behind the process of exams and quizzes. Tough grader for labs, quizzes and exams.
Fickbohm is not the nicest person but he is an awesome professor. He is not accomonating and he is a very tough grader but he offers so much extra credit! I learned so much from him! He is absolutely clear about what to know, so make sure to stay on top of all assignments, do all the extra credit activities and participate in class discussions.
Anatomy 1 required a lot of memorization and reading. The professor is helpful, however you need to put in effort for a good grade. He offers extra credit and gives very specific instructions.
Exam online and proctored. they were hard and results very scary I would get like 69-70 but he would give like +15pts extra credit which brings up the grade A LOT. I would end up with final grade of 85-90. A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT so just do it all. Quizzes and assignments easy. Get 100% on all of them and you will get an easy A even w hard exams.
The professor is tough but generous with extra credit. Stay on top of assignments and utilize all the resources, including Unstuckstudy, to ace the class. The lectures can be dry, but the material is manageable if you put in the work.
Honestly was so scared to take his class reading all his reviews, but he is so cool. He has a sense of humor and gives extra credit opportunities to increase exam grades. Of course, it was a lot of work, but it's expected for an anatomy course. His grading is harsh but understandable he truly just wants you to learn the material.
Get ready to read and study constantly, you will feel burnt out with all the weekly practicals, weekly hw, studying for exams but that is expected of any anatomy class, he gives a good amount of extra credit and PARTICIPATE that will bring up your grade sm at the end, I went from an 81 to 90 after all the extra credit, and asking 2 questions/ class
