Overall the guy is great! He makes class fun, but don't expect that you don't have to do any work, it is a math class. The best part is that the homework is written and not on the internet, this way you can acculumulate more points. GO FISH!!!

Great professor. Though I'd already taken high school calculus prior to this class, he was a great review. For those that had not taken it, he still managed to get a clear point across (he speaks pure American English, unlike a majority of the math department). "Fish Poker" provies extra credit.

he's a very good teacher. his directions are very easy to understand. he doesn't do webwork so it's so much better, but he does give out quite a few homework. there's e/c. take notes, do h/w, and ask questions.

Fishman is cool and we do get points by playing "fish poker". The class itself is hard, not cause of him though. He has a passion for math and tries hard to make it entertaining. He's not much help as a tutor so going somewhere else would help. It's not bad though and he speaks english!

First off, I love math. He was a good teacher and he speaks (clear) english. He truly loves math and it shows, which helps to make the class fun. His "Fish Poker" gives everyone extra credit. His tests are decently hard but if you study you will do fine.

I though this guy was great, he was clear and the class was a good decent pace. Fish poker was a nice way for extra credit but my class had bad luck and we lost a few times. In short hes a great teacher, do your hw and make sure you understand the concepts

He explains the material well, and really likes math so the class isn't too boring. But his tests are challenging, and he isn't too good about makeup work if you miss a class. Fish poker gives you some bonus points and helps you to learn the subject, but don't rely on it for a good grade. Be prepared to really learn calculus.

Class is very well taught, you learn A LOT. Explains things well, all math homework is done through webwork. You can always email him and he gets back to you quickly.

Best math teacher I have ever had, he explains everything very clearly. He actually makes calculus enjoyable. Tests are not all that bad if you go to class every day and do all the homework. Fish sometimes has trouble being on time, but in turn he lets it slide if you are late. If you need to take calculus take it with Dave Fishman.

He teaches great. Very clear and easy to understand. No use of webwork, but from the book, makes it automatically 6/10 just for turning it in then picks 2 questions and gives you credit. Tests are easy. Notes are great. I took Ryan Melendez and got a D. I took Fishman and got a B+. I definitely recommend him!

I love Fishman. The only problem was that the notes that you go over in class are not always as helpful when yo go to do the homework. It's almost as if you have to wait till the next class to figure out the previous night's homework. If you have problems go to his office hours, they are a life savor!I highly recommend him!!

Pretty good professor. I had no problems with his course. He is not the absolute best at explaining things, but does a pretty decent job of teaching math. He has a good amount of extra credit, and exams are not too difficult. Highly recommended.

He does a great job of explaining the concepts. I didn't have any trouble grasping what he was saying. He makes things that could be complicated reasonably simple. He is also enjoyable in class, and funny at times.

David's a cool guy and really knows what he's talking about when it comes to math. Good sense of humor, and provides some sort of extra credit (usually pretty simple!) on all of his exams. Read the syllabus! Read directions on the test! If you don't understand something, speak up, because it can feel like the class moves pretty fast sometimes

Here is the deal with this site. Everyone is different at learning different things so someone might say "this class sucked" but they might be lazy and don't try. Well if you are a student who is willing to work your butt off, this is for you. I went to office hours twice a week, did all hw, and tried my very best and he gave me an A. I like him!

Fishman was actually a really good teacher. Idk what eveyone else is talking about. The class was easy, you just have to pay attention! He does have a strange sense of humor but it is funny. There are no suprises on the tests, everything is covered in class. I would recommend him and would take him again

He definitely took last years comments to heart. He will take a whole class time to make sure that you understand just one concept. I just took notes in class, and without studying I got over 100% on all of his tests. Even the final. Homework was online and very easy. Odd character, but knows his math. I recommend.

As someone that is awful at math I have to say I am so glad I got Fishman. It will be a lot of work if you aren't great at math, but better than having some boring guy who doesn't speak english! He is more than willing to help at office hours and takes the time to make sure you understand. So great I am taking him again next semester!

Mr. Fishman is a great teacher! He really likes what he teaches and cares about the students learning the material. He will gladly help you over email, office hours, and during class. He is also really laid back and does his best to keep the math as simple as possible.

He is a very interested teacher in what he does, but I don't feel that helped me. If you ask for help on a problem he answers it like, halfway and then expects you to know how to do the rest. And if you are looking for multiple choice tests DO NOT TAKE FISHMAN! He never does multiple choice or curves.

Fishman was one of the best Math teachers I ever had! He learned everybody's name and helped whenever you wanted. We sometimes didn't get through very much material in a day but I fully understood everything. Plus, he is very entertaining.

I really don't know what the rest of these people are talking about. Dr. Fishman is a funny guy, friendly, and not very strict. Hell, most days half my class wouldn't show up and he didn't care at all. He learned my name quickly, is never rude, but wants to make sure you understand. He will change due dates for the class and doesn't grade tough.

Fishman is a good teacher with normal lecutres, it's what you expect out of a math class. If you do your math homework every time and go to his class, you will get higher than a C. I would not say this is easy. No teacher will make this course easy. That being said, I'm happy to say that Fishman was my teacher. Great guy. Go to office hours!

I'm an A and B student but never have gotten an A in a math class since elementary school. I had him for brief calculus and got an A in his class. Really not difficult if you try to understand the material and keep up with class. He is INCREDIBLE when it comes to helping students outside of class. 3 quizes 1 was a pop quiz but all for HW grade.

I'm just starting Fishman's 210 class and so far it's great! He's a very kind, interesting guy who talks a lot about board games oddly. His office hours are the key to passing the class. Go meet with him and he will help you without judgment or annoyance. I'm an A-B student that sucks at math but with Fishman I know I'll pass!

FIshman is a good teacher, he knows what he is talking about. He will help you during office hours, but will treat you like your dumb for not understanding it. He goes off on tangents in class about his personal life and likes to boast his ego to the class. Many people think he is funny, but i wish he would stick to lectures.

Fishman is a great professor! He's a funny guy too. If you have already taken calculus before, this class should be super easy. I usually get 105% on the homework. You have to pay $100 for WebAssign in order to do homework(textbook included). The exams are easy!!!! if you don't understand something, ask him to clarify and go to his office hours.

I loved having Mr. Fishman teach my math class this semester. His lecturers were always clear and he knows what he is talking about. The homework is always similar to the test and he doesn't try to trick you. The textbook comes online when you buy the WebAssign code so you don't need to buy the hard copy of the textbook. Would take again!

Fishman is one of my favorite professors! His lectures are clear and to the point. Tests are mostly hw and practice problems from class. Each hw assignment has opportunity for extra credit. The class can be boring sometimes. But you must go to class and take notes. Notes is extremely important for exam. Go to class and listen carefully, you will get an easy A. There is NO surprise in the exam.

This online class is totally based on MyMathLab with very little professor - student interactions. The first half of the class deals with functions of several variables and the second half is all about probability. Took me 82 hours to complete the 7 week online course. Professor could be a bit more organized in announcements.

One of the most fair professors I've ever had. Don't expect him to hold your hand through the class, but if you show initiative and effort, he will go out of his way to help you! His teaching can be confusing at times, but don't be afraid to ask questions, he generally goes one step at a time, which can be rare for a math professor.

Fishman is a great professor for MAT 211. You can tell he is passionate about this subject even though everyone else finds math boring. He is very fair and you know what is going to be on the tests and quizzes. There weren't any surprises and he doesn't try to trick you. Would take again.

Fishman knows what he is talking about, and is fairly easy to follow. I was in a large class so he wasn't able to take attendance often, but sometimes he would give pop quizzes (usually take home or partner quizzes though). The class was easy enough, but I know others in MAT211 with different profs who struggled. Fishman was passionate and helpful!

I don't understand why he has such bad ratings. He is awesome, always accessible through email if you have homework questions. He gives some "pop quizzes" but most of them are partner or take home quizzes. Exam's are straight forward with homework questions. Just show up to class and pay attention and you'll pass this class no problem.

Fishman is a pretty cool guy.. he cares a lot about his students and is very understanding if you go to him far enough in advance with grade worries. There is a ton of homework and if you don't keep up your grade WILL suffer. Overall this class is extremely doable but definitely take advantage of his help early on

Dr. Fishman was so fun. He always came into class with a smile and loved to tell us jokes. He was very helpful whenever we needed some guidance. The class was self paced so as long as you stay on top of your work you will be ok. It can be a lot of work, but only if you wait until the last day to complete the assignments.

You basically walk into the classroom, and get to work on the computers. He and the TA's walk around providing help when needed, but they let the ALEKS program do most of the teaching. It's great if you learn better on your own. If you finish all the topics early, you can take the final and be done with the course months ahead.

Yes, an amazing math lecture. Super practiced and prepared - knows how to explain everything so it's understandable. Gets the student perspective. EC on all hw if you do 1day before it's due. - really easy to get 100+%. Review session before test - like hw and lecture problems. Funny and understanding. Fishman was awesome. At first, I really did not like him, but after getting to know him, I started to respect him. He's super accessible outside of class and makes that well known. Attendance is MANDATORY. If you don't come, you'll be extremely confused. Homework is a little challenging but you can find most answers on Chegg to help walk you thru.

This class should just be online. Everything besides 4 problem sets is online but attendance is mandatory so it's pretty stupid. Professor cared about students though and would check up on them if they were behind or struggling. Finished the class almost 2 months early. The initial knowledge check basically determines if you will finish early

Fishman was the nicest man I have ever met. You can tell he really cares about his students and them succeeding. Curriculum is self-paced on ALEKs, so it's up to you to keep up. You can finish early if you work ahead. There are study guides for each exam and the final. He doesn't play tricks and tells you exactly what you need to do to succeed .

Take the initial knowledge check seriously. The more questions you get right, the earlier you finish the class. Everything was online through the ALEKS program, so it is self paced. The TA's are there to help you. Fishman goes over the questions you got wrong on the test and tells you how to solve them, often giving partial credit back.

MAT117 is all online you only go to class to sit on your computer to work on Aleks - professor doesnt even matter

This is the best professor I have had at ASU. Super passionate, and knows how to teach the content. You can email him with any questions on homework or take home quizzes and he'll usually respond within 30 min (often sooner). There are 3 exams and the content doesn't really build on itself so after you take the exam you can kinda forget it.

For MAT 117, everything is online using ALEKS. It is super easy, however, you need to complete the assignments due every week in order to pass, it is a lot. You also need to show up to class to work on the online activities in order to get points. Overall, he is a very caring and fun teacher!

I took mat210 and really enjoyed him! he was always there to email students when they needed help on homework or take home quizzes. he always offered an extra 5% on hw if you did it 24 hours before the due date. I thought he made class fun & he was an entertaining professor! i recommend him!

Little quirky but still very funny! He's a smart guy who knows what he's talking about. He doesn't take attendance, but I highly recommend going to class because you will understand the material much better. He's always available during office hours for questions. He's a cool guy, so get to know him. All homework done 24 hrs early gets extra credit

Attended class through Zoom and used the ALEKS program. The professor was super helpful and is great at breaking things down to help you better understand. He seemed to really care about all his students and was very clear on grading. Definitely one of the better math professors I've had. Easy A if you keep up with topic goals.

A really nice and funny guy. Although in MAT117 everything is done on ALEKS so you basically have to teach yourself. In class he only answers any questions you might have and walks you though problems. I like him I'm taking him again next semester for mat210

Professor Fishman was pretty laid back and was helpful. The class is completely on ALEKS, so you'll be teaching yourself for the most part. As long as you complete your goals each week and study for the test then you'll be fine.

Professor Fishman is an absolute gem. I had already taken this class in high school so it was pretty easy for me but regardless he is super helpful and always available. Mr. Fishman is the best teacher I've had at ASU so far he is so entertaining and his class would always brighten my day. His class is a must take.

Don't read the lies Professor FIshman is help full and replies to emails very fast. While I didn't do the best in his class, I have to say its my own fault not his. What the reviews wont tell you is how nice he's been to the class and how little the class asks him questions. Ultimately he is the most collaborative teacher I've had this year.

Has a lot of office hours opportunities so you are able to ask for help on your homework. Work is definitely harder than I am used to, but I am doing my best. He is actually a great professor and thoroughly goes through lectures and how to solve the work. Just take notes so that you can look over them too.

He is the best. Answers emails so fast. Yes, this class is based on Aleks but it is simply high school level math. Aleks provides exceptional assistance and is impossible to not succeed. Spends all of the class going over topics and questions, and will always ask beforehand for student's input on what topics they need help with. Great guy!!!

Do not be fooled by the ratings he has received In the past, those are from students that never showed up to class and expected to pass. Calculus is a difficult class no matter who is teaching you. What sets Fishman off from the rest, is that he wants you to succeed in college but also actually learn calculus at the same time. Truly inspiring!

I do not understand some of these other ratings. I never waited longer than 30 mins for an email, and he uploads a ton of content from himself and other instructors. I did need to get a tutor but thats more because I struggle with ADHD, and am in a totally different timezone. The biggest downside of this class is the ALEKS system is literal trash.

Work at your own pace. Respect him and he'll respect you and work to help you out

One of the best math professors I have had at ASU. It was a privilege to take 117 with Fishman. Took the class at the start of covid and still remember his funny lecture style. Make sure to take lots of notes.

Fishman was my a great professor, taught the material very well and kept you informed about due dates. The material is very hard, but that's not a reflection on the teacher. He gives great feedback and prepares you for the exams.

Fishman teaches a new concept every day and goes over examples. Sometimes the lectures seem useless but if you're confused he's very responsive to email and holds office hours. Sometimes he does random attendance checks. If you go to class everyday and complete the short homework assignments you should expect to do well on the test.

The class is done all online, but you still have to show up in person. The exams aren't hard if you just do the study guide. The questions are basically the same but just have different numbers.

David Fishman is a great professor, and it is easy to do well in his class. The tests are easy if you know the material, just make sure to study for them. If you need help, he responds to emails very quickly. I took him again for MAT 211 and I really enjoy his class!

Professor is very average. Is very good at responding to emails. His lectures are good for some and confusing for others. About 2 HW assignments a week but overall a decent professor and would recommend.

Professor Fishman definitely cares about his students and it shows. He constantly is giving inspirational lectures and such, but that doesn't take away from the difficult class. MAT 117 uses ALEKS and it can be complicated to use. So while Professor Fishman is a good professor, the use of ALEKS makes the class challenging and frustrating.

I was pleasantly surprised by this class because I assumed it would be awful. However, Mr. Fishman is great, and you can tell he really cares about his students. The way he runs the class is super organized, so you always know what is expected of you. Just do the work, and you'll be fine. Not hard at all. I recommend finishing the class early.

70% of the grade is based on two exams. the upside is that the professor has exam review prep that is essentially identical to the actual exam sosets you up perfectly to score well. The teacher is unbelievably available even at 1 am. if your nervous about calculus dont be this was pretty simple, and a good teacher.

This is less about the professor and more about MAT 117 as a whole. The class is deceivingly hard. Luckily, he was always accessibly and was willing to make additional video explanations. He was funny and gave "mid week motivation" speeches that were short and funny. Class sucked, professor was cool.

honestly hes a good professor. i took his mat210 class online and although pearson mylab was really frustrating the actual class is not difficult. hes easily avaliable and was really fair when people were behind and provided extensions when the website wouldnt work. his TA is a goated fr i love that man.

He's the type of professor that really wants you to learn the material. He also has cool inspirational stories about himself. Sometimes he does get a little off topic and sometimes the material is hard to understand. I recommend going to his office hours if you don't understand a certain thing and he will make it clear.

His class is likely going to be very similar to all the other MAT 117 classes. The difference is his energetic personality. He is always giving some crazy inspirational speech/story like how he was almost killed by bees and it's a great way to start the class. He is relaxed and funny and is likely the best teacher you can take for this class.

Fishman, himself was okay. He helped me out a couple of times when I asked, but for the most part, he didn't even need to be there. The biggest problem is the class itself, which is entirely online and self paced with 4 large (in terms of importance) tests which if you do bad on one, like I did, you are close to screwed. ASU needs to change this.

If you're good at self study, take this class. Otherwise, steer clear. It's entirely on ALEKS and basically an online course. You have a set amount of topics to do each week, and that's all apart from your attendance + test grades. The study guides are exactly the test, it's an easy A.

When I was really struggling his Zoom walkthroughs would really help and he would give me individual instruction if I needed it. Didn't enjoy the setup of the class overall most of the time but, as a professor, Fishman was very nice and was one of the only instructors able to make me actually understand math. Had regular office hours as needed.

super cool guy, my class was Aleks-based so he didn't do any teaching but always expressed his willingness to help and followed through.

I took his class for mat210 and I had him again for 211. He's a very sweet guy and has a lot of energy going into class every day. He teaches very clearly and the problems from the exams are problems he has done before or are from the exam review. He's very helpful if you ask and takes the time to explain the process. take fishman's class!!!

A very enthusiastic, energetic guy. All the assignments are done on a platform called ALEKS. You get assigned weekly topics that can take a while to complete. Otherwise no complaints for this class. It was mostly self study and self paced.

I have mixed opinions of him. Honestly, he was nice and definitely knew what he was teaching. My issue was that he knew it too well and sometimes wasn't good at explaining it to us at a basic level. Definitely self taught from the online homework. Wasn't too difficult but the final was hard. He sometimes cold called on people when solving a problem

Genuinely cares for his students and tries to make class engaging. Very open to going over concepts in class, sending helpful emails, and holds office hours for additional help. I nuked the first exam because I wasn't paying attention, but if you take notes and do the homework it's the easiest A you'll be able to find for a math course. Poker=skill

Professor Fishman's MAT117 class is mostly self-paced through the ALEKS platform. While attendance is mandatory, he's willing to provide extra help when needed. With proper preparation using resources like unstuckstudy ai, you can ace this course.

Professor Fishman is give and take. He understands what he is talking about, but the class itself is so highly self taught it's hard to get a one on one explanation from him sometimes. He is a funny guy and the class itself is very easy if you do your review exams and understand the concepts. My biggest gripes are the independence and some rants.

Math211 is a hard course but if you have to take it this is the teacher to do it with. The classes are interesting and he cares about his students

This professor is simply amazing. He is very passionate about the math he teaches and is extremely available for help. Email, office hours, in class, Zoom call, etc. name it, he is there. This class can be very difficult, so stay on top, ask for help and attend class. Gives EC for hw done over 24 hrs in advance. Make sure 2 do Exam reviews as well.

This class is self-taught, so the instructor matters little. Fishman was friendly and provided helpful videos. Stay on track—complete weekly goals to avoid falling behind. Missing more than 14 classes means automatic failure, even with good grades. Stay consistent, and you'll do fine.

whole thing is done on ALEKS so he doesn't really teach but is helpful if you're confused. as long as you do the weekly topic goals you get 100%, and exams are short and easy. don't fall behind bcs it's hard to get back on track, but work really isn't that hard. 2 absences get dropped and there's a chance for excused if needed. overall good class.

Other than the pop quizzes for attendance (not hard btw), he's a really good teacher. Unlike others he actually is hands on and solves questions from the hw, previous tests, and much more. He cares abouthis students and really tries to motivate us to participate (even at 9am lol). He gives feedback and answers emails HELLA quick. def take him!!

Be prepared that this is a self-paced/learned class. No lectures. I took this class before and failed it. I would recommend Fishman over any other MAT117 professor because he seems to want to help his students. He is imitating but is willing to help you if needed. Weekly homework, monthly module exams, and attendance are graded.

Prof Fishman was great, it's very clear he cares about the subject he is teaching. Out of a majority of MAT 211 professors I would say he is definitely on the better side ( I switched into his class at the beginning). He does give attendance quizzes sometimes but will almost always say when he is going to.

Honestly as long as you show up to class and ask him for help there's no reason why you would fail , quiz's are exactly what's on the exam and he always takes the time to explain anything you're stuck on. He also gives a GOOD amount of extra credit if you show work on tests

I took this as a summer class (1month long) so if was very fast paced, 3 exams and 1 final both worth most of your grade. Prof was always available to answer questions and had zoom meetings to review problems before every exam/final. Also you can upload the scratch paper after each exam to possibly get more credit on the exam for minor mistakes.

Attendance is make or break your grade which is annoying because he doesnt teach in class it is just independent work time and you cant be on your phone or working on anything else. if you know what your doing this class is super easy, just annoying

You have to go to class. But if you put the work in the class is manageable and hes pretty nice

Like in every other math course, this could easy be an online course, everything is in Aleks. The professor is great! He tries to add some personality when he talks to the class, has multiple TA's, so either they can help you in class or he can. Attendance is required!

We mainly worked on ALEKS the entire class, but if you needed clarification on any of the topics, Fishman or one of his TAs would be more than willing to help. He was actually pretty cool. Not a hard class at all and gave us 3 unexcused absences.

Dr. Fishman is a very funny guy. He really takes the time to get to know each of his students and offers you a door to open if you need help outside of class. He can be a little intense but he grades really well and gives you partial credit on his exams.
