New teacher, very nice! He's still trying to work things out, so his teaching skills aren't great, and he's not very interesting yet. His tests are hard, but he grades them with a HUGE curve. Overall, an acceptable class and a teacher with potential. :)

New teacher. There is no homework. Grades are based solely on the extremely hard tests, but he does use a curve that helps students out. His lectures and class time is fairly uninteresting.

I had no interest in astronomy prior to taking the class and took it just for the credit, but I found out astronomy was actually really interesting, and astro 101 became my most favorite class. Dr. Fong is a real"space geek"so his lectures are enthusiastic and fun to learn.The tests are straight out of lectures,and has a big curve.Take this class!

Dr. Fong is an awesome teacher. I didn't think I would like the class as much as I did. Everything is interesting. Make sure you attend class because all of his test questions are in the lectures. I loved this class and Fong is very fun!

I can't believe all these people are saying he isn't a good prof and doesn't answer questions! He is the most enthusiastic teacher I have ever had! His passion for astronomy definietly caught my attention and I was excited to go to class everyday! He is extremely helpful, any time someone needed help he was always willing to talk more about it.

Fong is a great teacher with tons of enthusiasm for the subject. The class requires that you be there and pay attention, though. The "trick questions" previous raters complained about simply require a good understanding of the material. He's very helpful and often poses challenging questions for the class to answer. It's a shame that he's leaving.

Ignore the negative ratings. People who can't handle Fong's teaching methods or the material he covers will inevitably fail at college. If you can listen and think semi-critically, you'll be fine. He's extremely enthusiastic and makes the material easy to understand. Yes, he throws a curveball occasionally on tests, but nothing too "tricky".

If the previous negative comments had any legitimacy, you can bet that Fong has severely improved in his teaching methods. Just attend class and study, and you will be just fine. He is very enthusiastic, making it easy to be excited about learning, and once stayed after class (which ended at 10:00 at night) for 30 minutes to answer questions.

Fong is a super nice guy! His class is easy. I didn't even use my textbook because the tests are based 100% on the lecture. It's true he throws in 1 or 2 trick questions, but 1 or 2 out of 50 is hardly an issue. Besides, if you pay attention, they won't be a problem. If he doesn't seem to answer your question, it's b/c he's just about to get to it.

David Fong is probably one of my favorite teachers at OC. I'm surprised by all the negative comments. I'm not interested in science all too much but, astronomy was really interesting to me because of him. I did read the text book but to get a decent grade it isn't necessary, he covers most of the book in his lectures which I enjoyed immensely.

Totally awesome teacher! One of the best that I've had. He was enthusiastic and made the class fun. People complain about his "trick questions", but if you actually take some time to read through them and understand the subject, you'll do fine. Coming to class isn't mandatory, but some of the lecture information is on the tests and not online.

I've taken all three of Doctor Fong's classes and achieved 4.0 in every one of them. If you like Astronomy, and are a COLLEGE STUDENT (Meaning you take notes, attend lectures, and expect to actually study), then you will do fine in this class. People who don't are people who only show up for tests and talk during class.

Very good professor. Always willing to answer even the strangest of questions and very knowledgable. Text book is useful for above and beyond studying but I never used it. Grades exams on a scale. Class is interesting but very important not to miss.

I really like Dr. Dave. He was very funny and easy to understand. I had an interest of astronomy prior to taking the class and I received a 4.0 in it. He gives extra credit opportunities and provides study guides for the tests, and quizzes. If you listen, and use the study guides he provides online, then you will do well in the class.

DON'T GET THE TEXTBOOK. I 4.0'd the class while falling asleep during the lecture, but I love astronomy. His teaching and knowledge base is solid, and I enjoyed it. His accent is mild, and understandable. Take his class.

I REALLY enjoyed this class. It is easy as long as you take good notes and use the study guides Dr. Dave provides. Homework is not mandatory but do it because all of those questions are on the tests, WORD FOR WORD. Dr. Dave goes above and beyond when explaining things. Sometimes there are tricky questions on quizzes and tests. READ CAREFULLY!!!

Dr. Dave made astronomy fascinating and easy to understand. He's also funny. Sometimes he repeats himself and the 'talk to your neighbor' bit gets old, but if you attend class and take notes, you'll do fine. My favorite class at OC so far.

dr dave is funny but gets really annoying. its an interesting class but can get boring because i had it for two hours, most kids would leave at the break. No homework. 4 quizzes, two tests, a final, and two labs that are easy and fun. He gives study guide for quiztest but the tests are very difficult even if you study. GO to class and take notes

Gives study guides for tests but usually are no help for the tests, but helpful for quizzes. Even if you pay attention in class and take good notes, the test are extremely difficult. You will find out your grade on testsquizzes next class meeting but he never tells you your over all grade in the class which is frustrating. fun subject though

Great teacher! He is funny, clear, interesting, and fair. Grading expectations were clear and fair. The class had long lectures, but was enjoyable and easy to understand. He is willing to answer questions and help students. The few tests are difficult but the study guides provided are helpful. Be prepared to take notes! Attendance is important!

Dr Dave is a WONDERFUL prof! His lectures are funny and he makes sure you learn each concept. He gives quizzes and lab assignments which are easy if you study and do them. The grades are curve and he gives multiple extra credits. By far my favorite science class at OC! Highly recommend Dr Dave!

His lectures are entertaining and amazing, BUT... the tests are full of trick questions. Choose your answers very carefully, when he says read every answer choice, do. it. He also asks very open ended short answer questions and then expects a very specific answer, and you receive no credit for the question if you have the wrong possible answer.

This class didn't require attendance, but missing class can leave you fairly in the dark! Dr. Dave is accessible outside of class and very clearly states what he's looking for in your work. he's funny and makes lectures fun and interesting!

Dr. Dave is by far the best, most interesting professor I've ever had! The lectures were super interesting and held my attention. Every question was met with an easy to understand explanation and made for a very inviting learning environment. The tests come with great study guides and you get plenty of time to finish. Easy to get along with too

Dr. Dave is very passionate about his classes! His lectures are amazing and he graded the test on a curve. This is a class you WILL need to study and you WILL need to attend class if you want to pass (or get an A). He inspires you to want to look more into Science and Astronomy!

A great teacher who knows a lot about what hes talking about. He is always happy and very enthusiastic about Astronomy. Just make sure you attend class, pay attention, do the homework, and study. He also gives multiple extra credit opportunities which are fun if you enjoy the subject.

Dr. Dave is a very passionate teacher who loves astronomy! As long as you're in class and study the textbook you should do fine! The three labs are pretty easy if you spend time on them. The tests are pretty hard, and he makes you apply the things you've learned in class to them, which can be difficult on the fly.

He is an amazing teacher who is very knowledgeable in his subject and who cares for his students. His presentations were fun as were the labs. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend you either go or exchange detailed notes with someone. Tests were hard but if you studied hard you were able to get a good grade.

This was a roller coaster ride of a class, as the only grades taken are for exams, labs and extra credit projects. The only way to pass this class is to study hard on the assigned homework and study guides. After nearly failing all exams, I barely made a 4.0 based on the labs and extra credit(it's definitely worth the extra time).

Dr. Dave gave a clear insight on what will be done everyday, he would display what would be hppening for the next couple of weeks. You always knew what was happening. Although the homework is not graded, every other graded material has a multitude opportunities to earn bonus points. Simply pay attention and you will be fine. Light studying is fine.

Professor Fong was a very entertaining teacher, he made the content actually pretty enjoyable but that didn't make it easier. The tests are the hardest I've done in two years at Olympic College. I was failing every exam, did the extra credit and passed the class. Overall, if you don't feel confident, DO the extra credit, can't emphasize that more.

Dr. Dave is an amazing professor and he's always very lively during his lectures. He's by far my favorite college professor I've ever had and as long as you take good notes, pay attention in class, do the homework and study then you'll pass!

This class wasnt difficult whatsoever, I dont understand why people have given him such bad reviews? Hes pretty quirky & funny, and while he does assign a lot of work, its not very bulky.

This professor is AMAZING!!! He is passionate about what he teaches and involved with the students who are interested. The tests are in depth but he gives you study guides that make it a lot easier! Overall this class is so awesome, I actually learned a lot and he was very good at answering questions. Favorite professor! Take pictures of slides!

I had Professor Fong this fall quarter for astronomy 101. Most of the work in the class consists of reading presentation slides, doing a lab where you use an online simulator, doing discussion posts, and taking tests. Overall, the class isn't too challenging and it's easy to have over a 100% before the final if you do all the extra credit.

I don't know why people are giving him such bad reviews. Just take detailed notes on the lectures, do the extra credit, study for the tests, and don't fall behind! If you do those, you'll be just fine.

This class was so much fun! Assignments open up on Monday and are all due on Friday. With each assignment, criteria for 100% is clear and he even tells you how to earn bonus points. The tests are nice because you have multiple tries so you can fix any mistakes you made the first time. Very funny and goofy lectures.

This class is fun. Lectures were long, but the teacher snuck in a lot of jokes in the slides. There were many activities due each week. Some questions were about very specific topics, but overall not too hard and you get a few extra attempts. Lots of discussion posts that were mostly fun and hypothetical, though long and graded somewhat unclearly.

Will give you the benefit of the the doubt!!!
