241 sucks. Fordham makes it a lil better.
Nice guy. Makes a boring subject interesting. Take him
for a hard class, he makes concepts easy. tells funny jokes to keep you awake
A good professor. Makes 241 not such a bad class. He likes telling jokes!
Fantastic teacher. Best prof I've ever had.
tells fun jokes and is very fair!
Great prof. makes you work but rewards you. and his sex jokes are great
You work hard, but you learn a fantastic amount. Take him.
great guy...go to office if need help
Hard Course, Great Professor. Clear explanation, fun, you learn a lot!
one of the best professors i have had. definately try to get him
great guy, great teacher.
really good teacher, learned a lot
Accounting sucks, but Fordham will trip you out! Be careful for pop quizzes!
Great professor, very eager to help students learn the accouting- easy to approach and super nice man!
Great teacher, enjoys his job and willing to help anybody. Very enthusiastic about accounting and he does lighten the class w/his off the wall jokes
This guy sucks!! Don't plan on him trying to help you if you really don't understand the material, because he will tell you that you are LD..WOW he sucks..I would not tell anyone to take him unless they only have one class which would be accounting
tremendous teacher who is willing to help those who are there to work. very fair tests and quizzes
He is the least caring professor I've ever had. He was frequently rude to people in the class and made fun of them when they didn't understand. Good teacher if you don't ever need help.
Expects you to do the work. Tests are not that hard if you do it. Most of his lectures are good. Will meet with you anytime out of class to help you.
Worst class i ever had..miserable teacher..worthless, jerk, terrible, dont ever take him save urself some misery
Very helpful. Teaches very throughly and clearly. Some of these other comments are surprising.
this guy was one of the worst professors I ever had at JMU. He was rude, unhelpful, and confusing. I used to go to the other professors in the department for help b/c he was so awful. I could have taught the stuff to myself better.
this guy is the best accounting prof. he actually teaches and doesnt expect you to learn just from the book. not too much h.w. and lets you work in groups, and does probs as examples in class. hes funny too, and the tests are fair.
I'm wondering if those who don't like Fordham have him mixed up with another prof. I never once heard him be rude or ugly to anyone, never. He unquestionably is the best prof I've ever had at JMU, let alone accounting. Find me one better, you can't.
Never heard him be rude to anyone, never heard of anyone who did. He's a great teacher, but emphasizes that YOU have to do the learning. Expects a lot, but delivers a lot. Very helpful, great prof for a terrible subject.
Funniest Accountant I ever met. Doesn't teach from the book (good!) but rather explains the subject in a way so that the book is perfectly understandable. Hard tests. Doesn't take attendance, but you'll be lost if you miss too many classes.
Super teacher. His classes are outstanding, you learn a lot and there over B4 you know it. Looking back, its amazing how much I learned. Hard exams, Pop quizzes. Lotsa homework. Groups can review homework. Made an A.
He is a great professor, he is really funny and nice and he is fair...the only thing that sucks is the pop quizzes but they're easy. The tests are pretty easy.
Really not a big fan of accounting, and i resented the fact that some of the problems on the tests seemed unfamiliar but he lets you drop the lowest score.
Best professor yet. He loves accounting and loves to teach. He never makes you feel dumb for asking a question. He requests that you meet with your group before you go to him (but not enforced)The avaerage test scores are As
I actually look forward to this class. Never in a million years would i think id make an A in accounting, but he teaches it so well....he doesnt give u an A you earn it, but earn it easily....if that makes any sense :-p
I love this class.. Well as much as any one can love accounting. He really knows how to make you learn. You have to meet with groups but it really helps. He knows what he is talking about and makes sure you learn! Take him over anyone else. I love him!
Super Teacher! Had him 2 yrs ago for 241, worked my butt off for a B. But I know more about accounting than I know about my major (Mktg)! He makes learning fun. Gets excited about it. Tells jokes. Really hard exams, but a great teacher.
Starts out as a mean SOB, but when he realizes you are working hard, he bends over backwards for you. Me and my roommate hated his guts for first 5 weeks, but now are convinced he's the best teacher at this school.
Super teacher. Works you like a dog. Quizzes are real bears. Hard Exams. Allows you to check homework in groups. Gets real excited in class. If you do the work, you'll LEARN accounting. For real. Highly recommended.
AWESOME!!! Doesn't go too fast and he is EXTREMELY clear on the subject material. Best option for an accounting professor hands down.
I'm a CS major that wanted to learn a bit about accounting, and was recommended Fordham as a teacher. He really enjoys teaching the material, and it shows. You'll work your ass off, but if you do you'll learn a TON. Funny guy, great teacher!!
Before I took this class I was so nervous about getting a bad grade! But Fordham was SO great--I know more about accounting than I ever thought possible! I got an A in the class and almost considered changing my major to accounting!!!
Outstanding! Most useful course I took at JMU. He uses class research projects and students do a lot of the teaching, but he's a fantastic mentor. He should be in the education department teaching other profs how to get students to enjoy learning!
Everyone loves this guy. I dont know why? He is a decent teacher, pretty easy exams. Quizzes are tough. Take if you can.
Great teacher, **** of a course. Requires HARD work (understatement), but he makes class fun. Requires LOTS of homework, group work, LOTS of quizzes, Killer Exams, but you don't mind it because he's so excited and it rubs off.
Overall, the best teacher I've had at JMU. Kept class interesting, which is shocking considering its accounting. Quizzes are hassles, but they make you keep up, so the exams seem easy. Take him.
Excellent course, excellent teacher. Hard to make an A, but B's come easier than most accounting courses. You learn more than you realize. Fordham is a great teacher, too.
Spent a whole term learning to write an Information Security Manual. To me, something that could have been done in 2-3 weeks. He read a lot of books about the subject, but has not a lot of practical knowledge.
Had him 2 yrs ago in the MBA program. Best teacher in the whole program, hands down. Clear, good communicator, sense of humor, very understanding, but you gotta make sure he knows you are working. Final exam is a crock, but it's only 5% of the grade, the manual is where the meat of the course is, and you learn a lot if you do it right.
Highly recommend. Makes class fun. Lots of energy in spite of his gray hair. Real different from other JMU accounting classes in that its tech oriented.
not terribly difficult by any means. generally nice guy, but class becomes dull and boring after the first few weeks. needs to learn how to pronounce the word "modem"
The class was a little boring but not too bad. To get a B is not hard, and if you actually study a little you will get an A. He only had one group project and 2 exams including the final, also he drops 3 out of 8 quizzes, I would take it with him if you have to take this class.
Beer belly, gray hair, but keeps class interesting. Requires group work, which sucks. Tests are hard but come straight from the material. No book but he requires a big software purchase. Overall an excellent prof. Everyone I know recommends him.
Hard to "read", hard exams, unfair in allocating individual grades based on team project (if the project would have been individual, I would have gotten the A I was shooting for...)
His class isn't "easy", but it is fair and straightforward. He is a good guy and tells you exactly what you are responsible for in his class. He will never screw with you like some other professors.
Fair amount of work, but was surprised at how much I learned. 2 tests, lots of reading, group discussions. Nothing terribly difficult, but does require some work. Made class fun. One of the better professors at JMU.
The course objective is to give students a "spectator" level of knowledge. There is a decent amount of work, but certainly not overwhelming. This class had two exams that counted 50% and participation as 50%. Dr. Fordham expects you to bring thoughts to class, so be prepared. There is no reason not to score an A or B in the class.
Professor Fordham definitely knows how to throw the work load at you. His tests are very controversial but a nice guy overall. Willing to help, however, with the test weighted average class average was about a 71.
Daily Quizzes get old quick, but it does make you keep up with the work, making the exams seem easy. Lotsa group work. He's very friendly after the first few weeks, and bends over backwards to help you. Recommended in spite of the quizzes, he'll teach you a lot.
definitely study for daily quizzes...can help out your grade a lot! only had 4 grades...two tests, one project, and quizzes (totaled equal a test grade). project is long and time consuming if you want to work for a good grade. not too bad overall!
All I can say is, "keep up with the daily work" or you'll be sorry. Daily quizzes get old quick, but aren't hard if you keep up. Get behind, and you're history.
No book for class... might as well just read wikipedia instead of going to class. Messy professor notes online, too hard to understand in class, great guy though.
This man is nuts. He throws pop quizzes out left and right and sometimes on stuff he never went over! Does not give plusses or minuses, and the quizzes are WORTH A LOT. Huge project at the end!
This guy is ridiculous. You will learn nothing. Had him last year, he made my semester a pain. Tests and quizzes shouldnt be hard, but somehow he manages to hand out 60's and below to smart students. Avoid this guy, he will take you down.
I guess results vary. Everyone in my group got an A or B. He doesn't use a book or assign daily homework, so it lulls you into thinking you dont have to study. But his quizzes and exams come directly from his notes which he posts online. Memorize his notes and you ace it all. Singewald proj was easy too, got a 93. Overall a good prof.
Fordham isnt a bad professor for 313. Once you get used to preparing for a possible quiz everyday, its not a bad class. Exams come straight from the notes you take in class, and the projects take up a bit of time with your group. Fordham is helpful during office hours if you approach him.
Easily the best professor I've ever taken at JMU. Hard, but totally fair. Makes class interesting and entertaining.
He is a super nice guy but has absurd expectations when compared to other 242 teachers. He really makes his tests harder than they need to be and like to word questions in a way that makes you take 20 minutes versus all other teachers get straight to the point. I would not recommend him if you aren't willing to put forth a ton of work
He's WAY better than Hayes, so make sure you take it with him. His exams are fair, his projects take awhile but they're fair too. He's also available for help. Make sure you study on a consistent basis for daily quizzes!
Fordham is a great TEACHER. Not only is he a nice person, he is the perfect instructor. His lectures are interesting and he's great at teaching this subject. However, there are unannounced quizzes every week, BUT they're all off of stuff you learned in class. And his powerpoints are pretty cool. TAKE HIM!!!!
theres no book which sucks. he is very open to helping students but when you go he has a very low patience and makes you sometimes feel dumb. theres a quiz everyday and sometimes give you 3 min at the end of class to take it. hes the only teacher so its unavoidable just be prepared.
The subject is tough, but he is a good explainer. He has dropped the quizzes, but makes them available to students for study. He also provides his professor's notes, list of terms for every unit, homework, handouts, and old quizzes on Blackboard and let's you study in groups. Best of all he provides learning objectives he uses to make the tests.
I think Fordham is a great teacher. The class is hard and the tests aren;t easy but if you go to class, take notes and actually study you should be fine. Do the homework problems and practice quizzes to help learn the information.
Absolutely, positively, the BEST teacher I've ever had in my life. After failing COB241 twice, I took this course, and EVERYTHING fell into place, clear as day. He takes an impossible subject and makes it so plain a baby could understand it. This guy is amazing. TAKE HIM. His blackboard materials alone will teach you an amazing amount.
Great Teacher. Knowledgeable, entertaining, fair, in short: highly recommend him and this course.
Very hard class, but he's interesting and entertaining. Uses PowerPoint everyday, but he's really good and the time goes quickly. Tests are hard, but straightforward and come straight from the Blackboard materials.
Pretty hard teacher but he's really helpful and makes the subject comprehensible. Go to class, take notes, do the homework and practice quizzes and study a lot for the tests. Not an easy class but he makes it the easiest out of all professors.
Great Prof! Highly recommend him. Interesting course, completely different from anything else I've taken.
LOVED this class. Professor is one of the best teachers I've ever taken ANYWHERE. Talk to anyone whose had his class and they'll tell you this guy is like, wow. The course itself is really fun for an accounting class because it relates so much to real business, not principles or rules or technicalities. Loved the Jeopardy game review too.
Fordham is one of the best professors in the ACTG program. He is clear, concise, and really wants students to do well. He is extremely fair (easy) with projects and tests, so you definitely want him over Hayes.
Great professor, makes the class so easy! Take him if you can!
His powerpoints are incredible. Interesting, funny, keeps your attention. Everything is perfectly organized, straightforward, you can't get lost. Great class. Highly recommend.
Take him if you can. Great teacher
He is the easier professor for AIS. You must attend lectures and do the readings in order to do well in his course. There are two group projects and four exams. His lectures can be boring as is the subject at times. Study hard and an A is attainable, a B will be received with an average amount of effort.
You will learn a lot of his class. No textbook, he gives you everything you need online. Great professor, really enjoys lecturing and they are not boring as many professors are. Tests are exactly what is taught, no tricks. Just go over the material online and guaranteed a B. Anything lower and you may want to consider a different major.
Excellent professor, makes accounting interesting. He is passionate about the subject and it rubs off on you. This course covers a helluva lotta material, but he makes it so interesting you don't notice until you realize it at the end. He' dropped the quizzes, so the exams make or break your grade, but the group projects help.
He is a bit old school, but he sure knows how to conduct a good accounting class. He made this class super interesting for me and I really enjoyed it. Do not take any quizzes for granted and make sure you have a really good group for the projects, because they count a bunch. Study hard because the material can be tricky too.
This man is the most average person I have ever seen in my life. It's not a hard class if you do the work, but it's not fun. I wish I had taped his voice so that I can use it for my future children to fall asleep. But do the work and watch his videos and you'll be fine(?).
He really thinks that he is gods' gift to all future accountants... Really nit-picky about wording in his test questions. Go to class and take notes because his PowerPoints don't have any information on them and there's no book
I can't say Fordham is the best prof I've ever taken, but he's certainly in the top tier. He lectures most every class and his powerpoints are pictures, not bullet points. He makes a big deal about how good profs guide students to learn on their own rather than teaching everything to the student. But he taught me a lot. Group project was fun.
Fordham is one of those professors who tries to over complicate what should be an easy straight forward class. There's no textbook so you'd better go to class and take notes, cause the notes he provides online are extremely vague. And be prepared to do a lot of memorization of terms and concepts. Overall, still an easy class.
The most organized class I've ever taken. He provides learning objectives for every class day, list of terms, readings for the day, self-assessments, and his own videos of the material, either for introduction or review. A master of PowerPoint. His slides make the lectures come alive. Tests are not easy, but very reasonable. Lots of material.
THE BEST accounting professor I've ever had. There's no text book but he provides videos, short readings, professor's notes, learning objectives and self-assessments for every unit. The amount of effort you put into this class really determines your grade. Don't get behind on material and DO EVERYTHING he assigns and you'll be fine.
Great professor. Only complaint is that the course covers way too much material, much more than a normal 3-credit course. It's doable tho. I didn't appreciate how much we'd learned until my internship. I used or saw about 90% of this class on my internship, so I recommend this class highly.
I went to this teacher for help and asked how I could do better since I struggled with accounting. He told me I may never grasp the material and I should drop his class and maybe change my major, like wow thanks? Took his advice and dropped the class, best decision I have ever made!! He's a good guy and means well I guess but do not take this class
Nice guy but teaches like its still the 1980s. I dont know why these ratings are so high but dont listen to them. Literally has only 4 tests. U mess up on 1 test and there goes your grade. Test avg was a 52 for 1st test Every other class has a homework or quiz grade which helps you. This class only has the 4 test grade. Isn't helpful @ office hours
An awesome professor, I learned so much in this class. The professor notes are the key to getting a good grade on the test. If you have a good understanding of the material you will pass the class no problem.
Fordham means well and is a great guy, but I would not recommend as a professor. His lectures are long and boring, and personally I learned more when I taught myself. Your grade is based off of 4 tests, including the final, which is frustrating because his tests can be hard. I feel like I would have done better if I had a different professor.
Fordham means well but he makes it seem like his students shouldnt even study for other classes and that we need to spend hours a day studying for just 241. He does his practice questions wrong in class, even the tutors tell me that hes teaching us material that shouldnt be taught until higher level classes. Steer clear IMO
I went into this class not knowing anything about accounting, but professor Fordham helped a lot. He explained the material in a way that most people can understand, even if you are not a business major. A lot of material is covered in this class, but if you master the first section, the other sections just build upon that.
