great class lots of activities and discussion
Subtle humor, but really funny. This is a core requirement for Psych majors, I highly recommend taking it with Dave! I'm taking another one of his classes next sememster just for kicks! Test are fill ins but really easy if you study. You get a study guide for every lecture and a study guide for the readings. 3 midterms, no final.
Take research methods with dr. dave! Lots of activities and discussions. funny professor. WATCH OUT the tests are hard, average on first test was 74. no curve. use the study guides tests are straight from study guide.
Dave is the coolest professor ever! He has the most random, funny sense of humor. The class is really clear and well outlined. The study guides are the test. Offers extra credit. You can tell he really loves his job and he will always answer questions.
Although has an awesome personality and is all about helping his students, I did not feel like I gained any knowledge in his class. Research methods is an essential and crucial class but compared to other classes feel as though I have left not learning much.
This class teaches you so much while encouraging you to think critically about your own opinions about multiple topics. Tests are difficult but you'll succeed as long as you attend every class and study hard!
Dave is super clear about what he wants from his students. His presentations are always engaging and fun. He has a great sense of humor that makes you want to come to class. Dave is not the easiest teacher, but I learned a lot from taking his class. He is always willing to help before or after class. He wants his students to do well.
Dave is a great professor! work hard and attend class(extra credit for missing only 1 class) and you will to great. His lectures are almost always interesting I mean it's human sexuality! His exams are tough but he gives a great study guide so if you know the study guide you are good to go!
Dave is a great professor and gives a lot of help. I had him in Psych 204. He handsout study guides and his powerpoints before class. His tests are a little challenging but all he covers is on his study guides. You'll do well in the class as long as you fill out his study guides. I highly recommend taking any class he teaches.
I've been dreading Reaserch Methods for quite sometime but this class was surprisingly enjoyable. Dave is an amazing teacher and probably the most personable Proffessor I have ever had. Tests are challenging but he provides many avenues for you to redeem yourself. I can't wait to take his Human Sexuality class.
Dr. Dave is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I have never learned as much useful and real world knowledge in one class before. He is absolutely hilarious which made this 3 hour class fly by and made we want to attend ever lecture. I took this class the last semester of my senior year and couldn't have asked for a better experience!!!
Professor Fredrick is in the top 5 best professors i have had at Chapman. Although his tests were the most challenging I've had in my 4 years at Chapman, I never wanted to miss a class. He is humorous and always willing to help out his student. He even gives extra credit! I would highly recommend taking this class! ps.pizza party for the final...
Dave is AWESOME! He is extremely helpful and makes a really hard subject fun and easier to understand. His tests are hard but he gives you a detailed study guide of exactly what will be on the test, so DO THEM! One of my favorite teachers so far. Definitely take a class with him if you can.
Dave is by far the best professor I've ever had. He engages his students and gave us a real understanding of the topic. He is very dedicated to his students and is really funny. Come to class, do the study guides and ask for help if you need it. TAKE HIM
Dave is by far the best professor I have ever had at Chapman. To succeed in the class, you definitely have to put in effort, but Dave is there to help and support you every step of the way. The class is super engaging, with interesting and relevant topics and opportunity for debate. Tests are only difficult if you don't study hard. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Dave is an awesome Professor in the sense that you can tell he honestly cares about the material he teaches. His best trait is that he goes over things in easy to understand ways and will even go over it multiple times if some of the class is still confused. His tests are completely do-able if you study and pay attention in class! My fav professor
First things first, Dave is an AMAZING teacher. Hilarious, clear, full of passion, and always there to help should you need it, which made this class really enjoyable. BUT, this class is very tough and requires a lot of effort. NOT an easy A. But if you're looking at a PhD, it'll be your best bet to make sure you retain this crucial knowledge.
DAVE! He is great. He is extremely knowledgable and engaging. He is fun and likes to joke around. His classes have laid back environment but you definitely have to put in work. The tests are hard they are all fill in the blank. But he is reasonable and you learn a lot. Definitely take him for Human Sexuality, hands down.
Dave is awesome. His exams are tough; you either know it or you don't. Homework is definitely a big component of the course and attendance mandatory or you just won't pass. BUT Dave makes the class sooooo much fun and makes doing research interesting. Lectures are awesome. ALWAYS there to help you and very clear on what he expects. Great guy!!
He is awesome at explaining things if you don't understand and is always there if you need extra help! There is a huge research paper and 3 tests that consist of nothing but short answer. But, if you use his feedback and study the study guides well, they're pretty easy. The final is extra credit if you need it to help your grade which is great!
Overall he is great. Lots of material that needs to be learned and his test are all fill in the blank no multiple choice. You do have to do alot of work for this class but if you study and do everything then you'll be fine. You just have to make sure you do everything and don't fall behind and STUDY FOR THE TESTS!
Dave is such a fun, quirky and intelligent professor! I learned so much from his class. He expects a lot from his students and the test are extremely hard, because you need to know everything by memory. He is super helpful though and there for extra help. Loved his class!
If you don't take David Frederick as a teacher for any class he teaches you are missing out. Definitely my favorite professor at Chapman.
Dave was an awesome teacher. We did many group activities during class which were interesting, got everyone in the class involved and broke up the lecture so it didn't seem too long. He is super funny and makes the class really enjoyable with guest speakers and group projects. The test was pretty difficult but if you study, you'll do great! A++
Dave is a very approachable and caring teacher. He challenges you to think critically about the subject matter and clearly outlines how you are to be evaluated for the class. I would highly recommend taking Dave's class.
Dave's lectures are engaging and the info is so interesting. His study guides make it very clear what is expected on the test. One of the best professors at chapman. Took him during interterm and we had one midterm and two group projects. If you study for the test you're going to do well he doesn't try and trick you. Also offers a lil extra credit.
Dave is incredibly well organized and provides a solid plan for the entire quarter. This is very beneficial to us as students, as one knows exactly what will be occurring at each lecture. I really enjoyed having the discussion groups in a large lecture, as it allowed us to master the content by discussing it with others in the class.
Professor Frederick is an incredibly well organized and prepared lecturer. He puts every slide and piece of paper that you'll use in the class online promptly ahead of time, and doesn't require any textbook. His tests are difficult, but if you put in the work, you'll get an A. He makes lecture interactive and funny through videos and discussions.
Professor Frederick is the best professor I've had so far. His lectures have a consistent, straightforward format, and the EC study guides are extremely helpful. Although the tests are free response, they are easy because of the study guides. We also sat in small groups during lecture, which was nice for mini discussions. By far my favorite class.
I took this class pretty randomly considering im a business major. Dave was such an incredible professor and the class was so great that I ended up picking up a Psychology minor. Take this class you will not regret it. Study guides are so helpful and just like the tests, if you fully complete them he adds 3% onto your test grade. Best class!
Super interesting class, super engaging professor! I would take the class again, though the tests are completely brutal! It's all about memorizing your study guides, though. So if you're more committed to the class than I was, I'm sure you'll do fine!
This class is not easy A & is a difficult psychology course because his exams. There is no multiple choice, only fill in the blank or definition/experiment questions. You need to know the material like the back of your hand and memorize the study guide thoroughly and you will be fine. He does not grade easy either. Loved the material though.
Dave is an excellent teacher and is fun in the classroom, but he does have high expectations of his students. If you are involved and put some time into the class your grade should reflect that, but it wont be an easy A.
Lovely class, make sure you go to it and do his work. You'll def pass.
Great professor! His lectures are clear and the study guides help a lot. Go to class and study your study guides and youll do great on the tests! The research project was a good experience too. But beware, you really have to work for this class. Its not easy!
Dave was an amazing teacher I truly enjoyed having for a short four weeks. He has interactive lectures that keep you engaged and interested. H knows APA format like the back of his hand, which means he is a critical grader when it comes to research papers. He gives great feedback on paper and makes you work hard for that A. He is also so organized!
He is a tough grader so it is definitely not an easy A but he provides you with the resources you need to succeed in his class. His exams are tough, mostly free response, and applied question. His study guides are really helpful for exams. His lectures are really interesting and he made the material fun to learn. Put in the work and youll be fine!
Professor Frederick kept our class engaged with lively discussions, projects and his lectures. I particularly enjoyed creating our team activity based around the psychobiology of love. I found the readings we had to do for this subject to be very informative. His examinations are difficult and require a lot of studying but I did still enjoy class.
Dave is a really interesting teacher who always gives us many examples and surveys in the class to help us understand the concept and theory.
Prof Frederick is my favorite professor I've had at Chapman but not because he is easy!! He makes you work for the A but because he wants you to truly understand the material. He's pretty specific to what he wants, LOTS of memorization but the class is so fun and you'll actually walk away feeling like you learned something. Totally worth it to take
Dr. Frederick is an amazing teacher. He is funny and his lectures are enjoyable, fun informational and exciting. He also has a lot of amazing guest speakers come in. If you skip class it will hurt your grade but you wont want to skip. This class is awesome you should take it with all your friends.
His class was well taught in the sense that his lectures were interesting and formatted in a way that note taking is easy. He has high expectations for the tests but gives you every means to achieve a good grade should you work for it.
Dave is not only an engaging and compelling professor, but he also makes it very clear what he wants you to take away from his lessons. His notes are very straightforward and easy to fill out as long as you pay attention, and with all the materials he posts online before class starts, you can get prepared before even meeting him, which I recommend.
Dave is by far the best professor I have ever had! He makes class enjoyable because of his humorous, relatable, and interesting lectures. This class is definitely one of the hardest I've taken but as long as you put in the work, you should be fine. Also, his assignments and activities make the content easier to understand. Amazing class!!!
Dave definitely makes you work for your grade, but it is so worth it because the class is so interesting. The lectures are funny, but you also learn a lot. You have to study way more than you think you need to for the midterm, but it's worth it. 10/10 would recommend taking.
Hands down one of the best classes I've taken at Chapman! Dave makes the material fun, engaging, shows how it is applicable to the real world, and provides the necessary support to succeed in his class. You'll learn a ton in this class and enjoy it along the way so I highly recommend it!!
This class is great! It was always really interesting and engaging.
Class was entertaining but he is really strict on using devices for anything other than the class. Mandatory. You HAVE to follow his outlines and know the concepts deeply. Also need to follow outline fill in blanks because they might be word for word on tests. Long paper. Group project was really fun. Be ready to write a lot for the paper/tests.
Study & memorize heavily for tests. Group project was funny. He is funny but grades pretty harshly
Lectures were interesting bc he invited guest speakers to come in and talk about their studies/line of work/books around the different topics of human sexuality. No tests, just a final project. Homework was a PDF that needed to be filled out by Friday at 5, but its time consuming so it's easy to fall behind on assignments. I Recommend this class
I LOVED THIS CLASS. I very rarely rate professors but he made me want to consider changing my major to psychology. The topics are so interesting and relevant to college kids. The homework may feel time consuming but by week two you get down how to stay on top of it. 10/10 recommend this class, short lectures, lots of guest speakers, learned so much
Absolutely phenomenal class. Dave's Human Sexuality class is great for anyone to take if you're looking for self-improvement and growth. There's a lot of reading, but it's all very interesting and fun. No tests, only big study guides.
Prof Fredrick is a very well-spoken guy! He tells very interesting and relevant stories in his lectures that make it easy to pay attention, and his curriculum is very well-planned- never too much homework and you never linger on any one topic too long.
One of the most insightful and interesting classes I have taken!! The structure of the course really facilitates your learning. There is a decent amount of reading, but it is incredibly enjoyable and appropriate for the course. Dave is an awesome professor with great lecture, clear course expectations, is SUPER organized. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Took David's class for interterm. The guest speakers (we had five) were all fantastic and eye-opening. The homework will take you around 5 to 10 hours each week depending on the effort you put into it. For this online interterm class, we had no tests and lots of homework. Class attendance was optional if you did more homework.
I highly recommend his human sexuality class to anyone who can take it! The lectures are extremely interesting and engaging. He also brings in a lot of cool speakers that have a lot of expertise. It is a lot of reading, and he bases our grades pretty heavily on study guides, so be prepared to write a lot if you want to do well.
great proff
Fosho take this class! Dave is a G in the classroom. He is always available to discuss anything that is needed. I had work and he is very flexible with his class attendance. He offers extra credit for filling out surveys for his other classes. Most of the homework is reading books and answering questions but the questions are easy reflection Q's
This class was one of the most interesting courses I've ever taken! This was during interterm, so it felt like a lot of work in a short amount of time but that is normal. Lecture for majority and lots of amazing guest speakers. Lots of readings, books were cheap, and content was engaging. Definitely would recommend!
I LOVED this class! No tests but we had study guides due Friday of each week that were pretty time consuming but helped you understand the material, there are 5 books and he has you read 1 or 2 chapters from each (Prob the most interesting assigned readings i've ever had @ Chapman) + there were amazing guest speakers. Overall Dave was a great prof!
Dr. Frederick is very knowledgeable especially in the realm of Human Sexuality. His lectures are very cohesive and understandable. Attendance is not mandatory, depending on the option of class, but I recommend attending lecture as you will learn information that facilitates completing the work he gives. He is a great professor take him if you can!
The most interesting class I've taken! I wouldn't suggest taking it with hard classes b/c it's a lot of work. He's really nice and answers questions. Grading is bit strict b/c no flexibility but it's manageable to get an A- at least. Procrastination was my biggest problem- a LOT of reading and writing. I spent hours on hw only to get Bs. Recommend!
This was one of the best classes that I have taken at Chapman, this professor cares more about your understanding and applying knowledge to your everyday life. There are no tests and only study guides needed to be completed. This is a very stress-free class that is super fun and interactive! He is an amazing professor and person. Highly reccomand!
I really enjoyed this class and would recommend this to anyone interested in human sexuality!
Dr. Fredrick chose very interesting books to read and brought in many cool guest speakers. There are no tests but there are 4 long study guides. He kind of grades those hard and gives an average of an 85 on each of them. There are also a lot of lectures that get very boring. He tries to make is as engaging as possible but I found it hard to listen
Professor Fredrick is amazing. This class was so eye opening and he really encourages students to think. He brings in incredible guest speakers that have such powerful things to say. I would 100% recommend taking this course!!!
Dave is the most amazing psych professor I have had at Chapman, if you have the opportunity to take one of his classes DO! He was very clear with expectations and lecture material and made lectures interesting by incorporating current research/engagement activities!
Really really great professor, there is no tests, but lengthy study guides that are the only assignments. He gives you plenty of time to complete them and he is also very generous with extra credit opportunities and always responds to student questions and concerns. Such an interesting class!
Would really recommend taking his courses! He has great guest speakers and is very knowledgable on the material. He is super personable and kind and loves to engage with the students. The study guides can take awhile to complete but for my online course, were done in place of exams. A very enjoyable class and not overwhelming!
LOVEEEE this class and professor. He is so nice, class is easy, tons of guest lectures, very little reading. If you do the work you will get an A. I've taken him twice and loved his class both times. He is a very funny and easy-going dude.
The professor explained the material clearly.
Professor Fredrick is super kind and sensitive with his approach to the subject matter. The workload is significant but if you plan accordingly and do NOT procrastinate, it is manageable. He is very clear with his grading expectations and he gives great feedback on work. He makes sure you know what to fix and how to improve.
Great professor with lots of great guests. There's a lot of reading, but the reading is so worth it. However, the lectures are boring and not that helpful besides when guests come. The study guides are long and hard work, but they're so worth it and a lot better than taking tests and is where you learn the most out of this class.
Assignments are open-ended; his grading is fair but not harsh. Lectures are informative; he is a passionate speaker. Lots of reading, but material was engaging. Teacher encouraged critical thinking and connection between broad abstract topics.
At the end of the day, Professor Frederick is a solid professor, but I would only take the class human sexuality class if you need the credits or if you're not too familiar with the subject. The class doesn't go that deep into things, but takes a broad approach that is definitely helpful. For me though, I wouldn't take the class again.
Loved Dr. Dave's class! The lectures and readings were super interesting. You need to do the readings and the study guides, otherwise you won't pass. If you're a psych major, def take this class! The guest lecturers were great!
I highly recommend this class. There are 4 study guides, but no tests or quizzes. The study guides are lengthy, but worth it because no exams. DO NOT procrastinate in this class bc the work load adds up. Lots of guest speakers and the material is so interesting. If you have a chance to take this professor def do it!
Dr. Dave's class was really interesting! His lectures are great, and he brings tons of amazing guest speakers. You're graded mostly on study guides. They're A LOT of work and look intimidating, but if you don't procrastinate, you'll be fine. Dr. Dave is super funny and a really great professor. Also, he does give opportunities for extra credit!
Dr. Frederick is an amazing teacher . I recommend this class to everyone even if it isn't a major requirement. His lectures are very interesting and fun to go t
This class was very interesting. There was a lot of reading but really enjoyable books. They were very insightful and relatable. No exams but homework is extremely important and requires a lot of time. If you stay up on your homework each week you will pass just fine! Professor Frederick is an amazing teacher and is very clear with instructions.
Dr. Dave's class was super fun! The guest speakers were amazing, and even though the class was 3 hours he never kept us over 2 hours. Don't procrastinate the assignments, the study guides are really easy and if you do them throughout the week the workload is 100% manageable. The class is less memorization focused and more application/research-heavy
He's a really tough grader and is almsot impossible to get an A on an assignment. He's very nice though and gives lots of extra credit.
loved this class! you have to write a lot on the homework to get a good grade but its not too hard. loved the guest speakers too it made the classes go by so quickly. the majority of the classes were guest speakers then reading during the week for homework. a lot of creative freedom in this class. definitely recommend!!
Dave is probably one of my favorite people. Both inside and outside the classroom he is a gem and really cares about his students. He is a pro at teaching the subject matter, and since he has a really great rapport with the guest speakers, they are extra excited to come and speak to our class, making the discussions a lot more interesting. 10/10
Professor Dave was recommended to me by another psych professor and it was such a good class. He was easy going, had fun activities to start each class period, and had great guest speakers.
Ive never left a review on this website but Im dedicating my first review to my favorite professor ever. So easy to talk to and made summer class something to look forward to. Have to give 100% effort into the study guides and start them ASAP! They are truly formatted to help you comprehend and write your research paper. Take his class!!!
David is a great guy, he cares that you learn, but most of the information you teach yourself. You have a lot of readings and the lecture is seldom indicative of the assignments. He recommends you spend upwards of 10 hours a. week on hw, but if you're neurodivergent, I suggest more. very interesting class, I am glad I took it but very challenging
If you get the chance, take Dr. Frederick's class! He has been one of my favorite professors at Chapman. My only regret is that I waited until senior year to take a class with him. The class is interesting and entertaining with lots of guest speakers and self paced projects!
I absolutely love Dr. Frederick. Hands down the best professor I have ever had. He has no exams, just heavy papers and "study guides" which is writing and applying what we have learned in the course. So many amazing guest speakers, if you have the chance, TAKE THIS CLASS. You will not regret it. Dave is so caring, understanding, and wise.
Dave is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. The work can be heavy at times, but all of it is SO fascinating, and he always presents it in a fun and engaging way. He packs in so much information in the best way possible and makes the class 100% worth it. I am so glad I took it.
Dr. Frederick is an amazing professor who wonderfully breaks down Human Sexuality for students and motivates students to learn with his activities, projects, study guides. No Exams, lots of reading & writing. Attendance is split between high or low. Place a lot of effort on what you learn and how you can connect to your life. Get ready to work.
Nicest, friendliest professor on campus! If you're looking for a sign to take this class this is it!
Dave is awesome and does a great job of explaining complex topics in an easily understandable and fun way. There's lots of world-class guest speakers that really bring the course to life too. The only complaint I had is that the homework assignments take A LOT of time. They aren't too challenging, but definitely require effort and time management.
Take Human Sexuality with Dr. Frederick! No exams/quizzes in this course. Based on Spring 2022, curriculum is 2 thought questions (1.5 pg essays), 3 study guides, group project, and final project! He gives great feedback, and he answers emails in a prompt matter. Great vibes in the class and, he's hilarious which is also a plus.
agree with the 5/5 he's great but the study guides KILLED me they're divided into weekly sections but even when i followed a schedule i wanted to kill myself every week i was so tired so be prepared he doesn't give full credit easily (or i'm just a terrible writer) so i think imma get a B+ max (even w final project)
Dr. Frederick is an awesome professor that really cares about the well-being of his students. While there is a lot of work in this class, it is not overly difficult and he provides an abundance of helpful resources if any students need assistance. I would highly recommend taking this class! Also... best guest speakers EVER!
Dave is a great professor. On the surface, he's a little intimidating, but he's really hilarious and thoughtful. There are several guest speakers that are amazing on top of lectures. There is a lot of work for this class, but if you put in the extra effort, you'll get a good grade (I recommend writing 100 words over the minimum).
pretty cool guy. would recommend. please check him out.
I want to give him a lower rating because of how much work he gave us, and how tough of a grader he was, but he really cares. I would not take him again because of the amount of stress his class gave me, so I would recommend only taking it if you don't need the class for credit, or if you use a p/np option.
Dr. Frederick is great! very epic. Lots of writing and researching online. Not super hard material, but fair amount of work. Study guides are decently long, and you start to feel it especially if you put it off. If you try your best, you'll do fine. Dr. Frederick gives great feedback on assignments. TA's are pretty helpful.
Best professor at Chapman! I would definitely recommend taking his class if you get the chance. Just start the study guides early and you should be good!
Dave is my favorite professor I have had yet at Chapman. He gave great guidance not only for this class, but for my future in research as well. He always provided examples of papers, A+ assignments, and gave tips on how to succeed. His classes were fun and engaging, especially for being a summer course, he made it worth it.
Professor Frederick is great! While this class entails a significant amount of work, he makes it achievable and wants you to succeed. The study guides are long but as long as you start it early, you are good.
Straight forward class, has a great sense of humor and just the perfect difficulty.
It is not a hard class, lots of reading but it is necessary. The only thing to note is to finish the assignments, do whatever you need to finish them! super important, cuz they could be pretty long, and if you don't start early enough, you won't finish on time.
Professor Frederick creates great conversations and discussions and has amazing guest speakers. I would recommend taking this class but would advise students to start the study guides asap and do it little by little. And make sure to write your reflection for the class in the study guide before you forget.
Dave is one of the best professors I've had at Chapman. Taking this in the summer I was nervous it was going to be dreadful, but his lectures were engaging and the speakers we had talk in class were next level. Although it's a considerable amount of work, it's not too difficult if you have good time management and start early. Take this class!!
The class requires a lot of personal research. Professor gives flexibility when picking out a topic to research/write about, and there is always a TA to answer questions. Almost all of the information in class is available via Canvas, and there is a lot of information and outside resources that the professor posts to dig deeper into certain topics.
I was actually really excited to take human sexuality with Frederick, but I was VERY wrong in thinking that he was a great professor. INSANE amount of work that required me to wake up at 9 every morning just to complete 3 pages in a 30 page study guide. Theres three of them. I was depressed from the work he gave us I can tell he doesnt liketeaching
Best professor at Chapman I wish he could teach more psych classes!
Dave is a cool professor, but what made me not like his class was that he gives out way too much to do. Instead of having tests, you have 3 10page study guides to complete, with a really hard essay at the end of each one. Personally, I would've preffered if it was just a midterm, paper, and final. Lectures are fun but useless.
Dave is someone who is not only extremely charismatic, but will give you exactly what he expects from your study guides. Take advantage of your resources, like the TA, and follow their advice for assignments. He's someone that encourages you to go above and beyond in your work, and everything he assigns is compatible with the real-world.
Take this class if you are ready to learn about human sexuality in a fun and engaging atmosphere. There are 3 comprehensive study guides in the place of exams, attendance is counted, and there is one group presentation and an optional final project. This class is great, you should take it for fun or for the applied psychology requirements!
Lots of work (like actually A LOT), but no exams! One of the most interesting courses you can take, definitely recommend. You can walk out of this class learning A LOT if you put the time into it.
Yes, the study guides can be challenging/time-consuming, but they're pretty manageable as long as you work on them piece by piece instead of all at once. You can tell that Dave is respected by the students/TAs, and he's quick to respond to emails. The lectures were always interesting, and I loved the variety of guest speakers that visited class.
Would 10/10 sell my soul for Dave
Take this class, Dave is an awesome professor. He cares about his students doing well and wants to know about them and create a comfortable learning environment. Study guides require a lot of work, but if you stay up-to-date, they are manageable, and he gives feedback so you know how to improve. There are also very interesting guest speakers!
Dave is such a treasure at Chapman. I highly recommend taking one of his classes before you graduate. He is everything a professor should be and more
Class is super interesting, professor is awesome. Workload is kind of insane though, like about equal to my 5 other classes combined. Those were easy classes, but still.
I HIGHLY recommend you take Frederick's class- it has pushed me to become a better writer, think critically about my essay topics, and take the time to reflect on how sexuality overlaps with identity. It does require frequent writing assignments, however, there are no exams/quizzes- and he is super helpful with feedback!
If there's any way you can attend his lectures, you should go. He kept everything classy and fun. He always brought snacks, which was a huge morale booster! My one gripe is the study guides. As someone taking 5 other classes, it often was too much, even week to week. I'd take this class again in a heartbeat if it were a lighter load.
This class is so interesting and I actually really enjoyed taking it. Dave is super funny and engaging. The study guides are kind of difficult and a lot of work, but there are no exams so it's worth it. Dave is a great professor and I would def recommend
Dr. Frederick is very hilarious and likeable. Super engaging lectures, amazing guest speakers, he's quick at responding to emails. I learned a lot about human sexuality and it was a super cool class. I'd recommend taking the course during a semester when you don't have a lot of labs though because the study guides are pretty time consuming.
Dave is the best professors I have had at Chapman. He cares about his students more than any professor I have had and truly cares about improving individuals academics. The class is based off of study guides, essays, and one group project and Dave gives feedback on each assignment. There are also speakers who are in the sex world. Take this class!
Best class to take at Chapman. There is a work load, but so worth it because there are no tests and you really invest in the class. Class and lecture was always fun and speakers make this class so unique. Absolutely recommend!
This is one of my favourite classes and favourite professors I have ever had. However, definitely a huge workload and graded by only a few things. We had the coolest guest speakers and Dave is a great lecturer, it's clear he really loves his students and teaching. I took this class bc I was interested in the topics but he made it 100x better.
I took PSY 430 with Professor Frederick, and understand the praise he receives from former students. The study guides in place of formal exams are a super creative way of engaging with the content. It might be overwhelming to have so much liberty over assignments, but the feedback him and his TAs give is super useful. Highly recommend this course!
Dave is a very nice and funny guy. I loved the class, there were guest speakers the majority of the weeks that were incredibly engaging. The workload varies by week but each assignment is a lot of work and very difficult. There are about 5 with an optional final. Instructions for the assignments are both vague and difficult to find in Canvas.
Extremely clear about expectations and gives you all (and beyond) you need to succeed. NO TESTS is amazing. The study guides assigned are a decent amount of work but they actually help you learn so much better and are way more effective for learning. Anyone who says this class is 'too much work' lacks time management skills and probably crammed.
Dave's class is a must-take! The workload is heavy, but the engaging lectures, thought-provoking discussions, and helpful feedback make it worthwhile. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for study prep alongside the textbook. Highly recommend this class!
Dr. Dave is the absolute best professor and my personal favorite. He is an excellent mentor, and will always give you tons of feedback and help if you ask for it. His lectures are extremely engaging and he keeps the class fun and insightful with his personal examples and fun facts. I absolutely loved him and his class and am so glad I took it!
Dr. Dave is extremely dedicated to his job and offers more help than you expect if you reach out. He truly wants the best for his students and provides guidance for future career / grad school advice. I really enjoyed his class, despite it being almost 3 hours. He is super engaging and provides excellent examples for students to learn material.
Dr. Frederick is the best. He is truly invested in his students, lectures are very engaging. The guest speakers are awesome and give great personal insight to the topics we learn in class. Most of the assignments are writing-based, requiring a decent time commitment to be done to his standard. If you put in the work, this class is super rewarding.
This is one of the best professors at Chapman. If you're going to take a class, take this one. It is so educational and valuable to be in. I will say it's a hard class if you want to get a great grade, but you'll also learn a ton from it in the process. Dr. Frederick is hilarious and a real G, so absolutely take him.
funny guy who cares
Professor Frederick is an amazing teacher who would recommend taking his classes. Make sure to allow time for completion of assignments.
David Frederick is an outstanding professor. He is very detail-oriented, his lectures are interesting, and he doesn't give tests! He can be a tough grader, but he lays out all the tools needed for success in his class and values creativity. I would suggest starting his study guides as early as possible, they replace the exams and are a bit heavy.
He is a really good teacher who clearly cares and likes the content he teaches. He was a harsh grader on the study guides, but they did replace tests, and we technically had months to do them, and the criteria were posted and clear. He will randomly call on people, and you don't get to choose ur team for group projects.
he was awesome! took as a summer course so definitely a lot of work but all great content and lots of support from his side.
Dave is the best professor. The study guides are hard and a lot of work but they replace tests and we have months to complete them. He also makes himself so available for help outside of class and it was clear that he'll do everything he can to make sure he answers our questions, so there isn't really an excuse to not do well
The professor is easy to communicate with, humorous, and very helpful. Homework is challenging, quite a bit, but manageable, with no quizzes or exams. Assignments are spaced out well, lectures are engaging, and frequent guest speakers make the class even more enjoyable.
Dr. Fredrick was a good and knowledgeable professor. I took him during the summer online on zoom which I wouldn't really recommend. He loves breakout rooms, his study guides take forever, he is a tough grader but explains thoroughly his expectations. If you are willing to put the effort in, Dr. Fredrick is a really good match!
He's honestly the best. Take him. It's worth it. Just study guides are the majority of work and discussion posts, easy class for a upper div.
Great teacher, super funny and makes class really engaging by inlcuding interactive activities and entertaining lectures. Few assignments BUT are very lengthy and time consuming.
Professor Frederick is an amazing teacher! He made a class we normally dread into something that was fun. The class consists of 2 study guides, one group project, one essay, one optional final project, and a few small discussion posts. Lectures are fun. As long as you don't procrastinate you should be great!
He's great and super funny! No quizzes/exams which was really nice, just 2 lengthy study guides, an essay, and a final (essay/something of your choice). Invites guest speakers to class too
Dr. Frederick gives extremely engaging lectures - he holds your attention and incorporates cool facts, jokes, and discussion into them, allowing for a rich learning experience. The study guides were a welcome change from exams. There were also lots of guest speakers that also had such interesting things to say!
Dr. Dave rocks! I truly enjoyed his class, you can tell he has been teaching the material for years by how smoothly it ran and how excellent the guest speakers are. I'm so glad I took this as an upper division psych credit and I recommend it to anyone. There is a lot of work but you do get a lot of interesting and useful information from it.
Very knowledgeable and there's not that many assignments overall, 2 guides, 1 paper, 1 poster, and optional final project. However, do not be fooled by the guides as they are long. The more you wait, the more you will hate past you for procrastinating (I did it and it's not fun y'all...trust). Great and caring prof. and guest speakers are so fun!!!
Very intelligent and genuinely funny professor. The guest lectures were great, and even though the class is 3 hours, he keeps it engaging and entertaining. The only downside is the amount of homework (mainly the study guides), but if you spread them out, it's definitely manageable.
Dr. Dave rocks! I've never taken a class with more incredible guest speakers, truly they were out of this world. He is funny and intelligent, he has taught over 40 semesters of this class. There is a lot of work on these study guides in lieu of exams, and my best advice for those is to include a mix of personal responses with scholarly sources.
