Took his honors govt course & regretted it, he is very difficult & even more arrogant.
Hes not the easiest teacher. I took his Gov I class in wintermest and somehow made an A. He may seem arrogant but hes generally a nice guy. Some girls say hes antifeminist. Very passionate about govt - youll do well if you dont slack off.

He is extremely hard. He is very passionate about government. As long as you keep up and attend class you will do fine. I didn't so I had to drop.
Good teacher who knows his subject well. Highly recommended for a Political Science major. Be warned: He requires a lot of extra work for the class. Avoid him for this reason if your time is limited. He is available and willing to help as needed.

This guy is not intimidating. He makes you do a lot of really lame projects. I found it tough to stay awake during his lectures.
I enjoyed his wintermester class, his lectures were usually interesting to me - at the time I took his class I had no real knowledge of government politics. Although I should admit a lot of peole in the class didnt like it as much as I did - one girl claimed he was chauvinist.
He is not that good of a teacher. He lectures his class mostly on current events. He also teaches as if you know the stuff already. He does not go by the book and his test are worded funny. I have been out of school for a while and going back with a professor like this was very hard.
he's the honors professor so his class has alot of tasks & bonuses than usual. he basically talk about current issues in class and some input on what should be covered. tests are based on the given study guide. writing papers is a main criteria to an A! he's really lenient & negotiable
He's a serious instructor and does know his subject well, however, I feel that for a 3 credit class, it is too writing intensive. A lot of essay writing. This class requires a lot of free time for the writing assignments if you want to get an A. He's a little liberal for my tastes, as well.
Dr. G ain't easy. If you take his class, expect to work hard and learn a lot. Expect to keep up with current events. His class is very labor-intensive, so if you're lazy or don't have the time to dedicate to a serious class, go take some blow-off class. If you want to know what's up, take him.

I absolutely hate this class... This is a very bad professor that doesn't teach. He comes to class unprepared. You cant even hear what he says because he trails off and mumbles. DO NOT take his class if you know whats best for you.
He knows what he is doing.No doubt! But there is a lot of work for 3 hour credit class. If you feel like writing 6 research paper/eassy ; 5-7 pages long.10+ reflection paper for extra credit and long boring political related discission, then you've found professor you want. Otherwise find someone else, I can assure he won't be as hard as him.
It isn't necessary to buy the books so long as you go to class, he tells you most everything you need to know. It isn't the most entertaining class, and he doesn't strive to make it easy either (instead he gives many writing assignments), but it's required so you may as well take his course in attempt to save money on textbooks.
I took his honors class and loved it! Small group with interesting topics and fast pace. He is great!
I found him boring and disorganized. Overall, I was not impressed with his teaching method, besides that it's unnecessary to buy the books - he'll tell you everything you need if you just come to class. He isn't easy, but not too difficult.
You must write about 7 papers a semester, but he tells you everything he wants in it, and as long as you cover it all you should get an A. his tests are pretty hard, but he is a good teacher
dr. garrison is how college professors should be. and it's fun how he brings stuffed animals to class for "emotional support".
This is a prime example of a spectacular teacher. I didn't open the book once, yet he was able to explain the material so clearly that I would get B's on the tests without even reading. There aren't so many papers like ppl say. There are bonus papers that he gives points for just for doing it. I aced the class. Best teacher ever!!!
he is a pretty good teacher, he gives us easy grades with the tasks and he tries to kee our attention.... he is kinda contraversial with thome of the things he says or does so if you cant take a joke or think openly then dont get this professor...and if you talk to him in class and give him some king of feedback it makes the class easier

He is extremely unorganized and engages in selfish rants until the last 10 minutes of class, when he finally decides to cram in an entire lesson. I do not recommend him. Run.

He has a very intersting class, you really have to get involved for it to be fun. He knows a lot of things and has tons of extra bonus points. Talk to him and he will really work with you.

horrible teacher, talks down to the students, and repeatedly tells them they are losers for being at a community college. Tried so hard and made a D. take Wichern, he is awesome!
not a bad teacher as everyone says, essays are graded primarily on length and adherance to the guidelines. 3 tests are not that bad...lectures are pretty random and he doesn't cover some stuff he tests on. funny guy, if you can take jokes and keep an open mind. ended up with an A.
wow. i advise not to take this teacher if possible. he's an over all nice guy, but the amount of work he made us do for a govt 1301 class was way too much. overall... 4, very long papers, and essays with every test. and the lectures are the kind you fall asleep in if you dont read the night before.
3 essays and another 3 essays, 1 for each exam (6 total)- pretty easy just time consuming- as long as you cover the topics he lists and quote the readings he supplies you, and cite your sources, youll be ok I got an A on them all. Exams are multiple choice and not hard if you read. everything is on his website, opportunity for up to 50 bonus points

If you sit there and say nothing class will be boring, but if you respond you get to see another side of "Dr. G". And if you can learn to laugh at his lame jokes, than you'll love him even more.
I took his video correspondence course and he was the most unhelpful teacher i have ever had. His website is a completel mess. He is so busy updating it non stop that you cant keep up with what is due. he sucks.

ok, a bit different. But - his objectives are pure - attend local political meetings, get involved in pollitical process - know that life is not spoon fed to students. Great teacher! Needs to respect personal boundries, perhaps!
Very Particular about what he wants. The website he offers basically gives you everything.Read the book and do the bonus opportunities! Pretty much that is how he gives a grading curve, by doing his extra credit. He requires students to attend City Council Meetings and such so there will be a lot of time put into it. Not a blow-off class.
Not an easy class but you have to do the work. He doesn't seem to grade essays harshly at all. Just complete the objectives, doesn't matter how well it is written. I think many students get psyched out, it's easy if you just do the work. Study for exams! He gives everything you need, which is generally everything!

Do not expect your average professor. He is sarcastic, a little bit goofy and has a tendency to ignore personal space barriers, but don't let that scare U! You can get away with not going to class or playing on your laptop. He has tons of ExtraCredit and the Exam Essays are Take-home Essays… Easy B & A yet you do learn even w/o noticing :S Weird….
Treats students with no respect, tends to digress from the lesson plan into irrelevant monologues. He gets up in peoples' faces a lot, especially the female students. Class requirements are frustratingly complex and unclear. He creates a very stressful classroom environment.

i actually liked this professor. i always slept in class but if you study before the tests and write a good essay, it should be pretty easy. there are only 3 tests and you have to write an essay for each. then there are three tasks which are basically just huge essays for the whole semester and thats it. i thought he was funny but he is a lil wierd

Dr. Garrison is phenomenal, but not easy. If you are not willing to come to class and work a bit, then I would not recommend him. Everything he says in class is on the test. He is a little quirky at times, but it's completely entertaining. Take him if you actually want to learn.

First day of maymester i dropped...you look at his syllabus and you know hes crazy 10 one page papers for bonus difficult testing material his review was really long for each test test format was hard 100 MC and essay and all this in 10 days? hes crazy and got up into peoples faces didnt teach a single helpful thing on first day DONT TAKE HIM!

EASIEST class I have ever taken. One person here complained about bonus papers? The bonus papers insured that your final grade would be higher than a 100%! If the tests are hard for you no worries b/c of the bonus papers. Everything about the class is straight forward! EASY EASY EASY!
Sometimes this class feels completely pointless because half the time we don't do anything. But unless you never pay attention this is an easy class. Dr. G wants you to pass so that's why there's bonus opportunities to do, which aren't too bad at all. He's fun to talk to and the tests are so easy. He's an easy grader too.
he takes 20 minutes to start class everyday...i found this very annoying. I would be in class on time, but he was always 5 to 10 minutes late. btw...I printed out one of his study guides for a test, 9 pages! Who makes a nine page study guide, seriously? Also, good luck with his website.
I dont know why everyone says hes a hard teacher. i went to about 30 percent of his classes, never read the book, and did the essays the night before and always made an A for them cause u just have to follow the prompt and youll get a good grade. tests are pretty hard cuz i didnt study but the bonus oppurtunities more than made up for them.
Great class, great professor. There are probably really lazy ppl making all the bad comments. if you are ready to be a college student, take dr G's class but if you are just wanting a easy grade like in high school stay away.

He doesn't teach anything. I don't think he reads the papers either considering the fact that I got 100s on all three of his 'Tasks' without having to try. I BSed all three. I didn't go to many of the classes and didn't miss a thing. His website is terrible and hard to read and find what you need as well. I don't suggest taking him.
If you are a female you do a lot better and called on a lot more in class. My friend in the class went to his office after each test with a low top and although she did worse than me on any test but got a higher grade in the end. HORRIBLE class and a creeper!

I'm not sure where to start. I study, I do the work, I read and never recieved anything lower than an A on a paper until this guy came along. He googles online on his computer as much as he googles the girls in the classroom. Someone should probably report this guy.
His class is challenging, but his teaching methods helped to clarify the material (particularly the intricacies of the federal bureaucracy. Let me put it this way - if you're lazy and dispassionate about political science, then avoid his class; however, if you want to challege yourself intellectually, I recommend his class.

I took this teacher for Government 2301 and 2302. Everyone had said he would be terrible on here and i took him for both maymester/summer. He is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. He gives soooo much bonus opportunity so even though I failed 2/3 tests, I passed with a B. He can be boring but if you need an easy grade, he's your guy.

this class might as well be an online class. its such a waste of time to come to class and read the new york times for 30 mins out of the 50 we have for class. assignments are ridiculous but sometimes easy. extra credit recommended but requires lots of time and patience.
I'm a very attentive student, and when it comes to notes, i'm immaculate. But with this professor i couldn't keep up with him because he would jump from one subject to the next, and then go back to the first one. It was AWFUL. The assignments are confusing, and he doesn't thoroughly explain anything, i dropped it so i wouldn't fail.

I am a straight A student with 45+ credit hours. I took Garrison this semester, and I have to say that he is by far the worst professor I have ever had. He does not teach the material at at and just randomly expects you to do well on his tests. He gives 50 bonus points each semester bc he doesn't teach and he makes his test hard. He is very rude!

I took Mr. Garrison's class for government 1 and 2 and I loved it! Sure he doesn't really teach during his classes, but his tasks and tests are fairly easy if you actually put the time and effort towards them. If you make an effort to atleast try in the class, he'll do his best to give you the best grade.
He is a nice guy, but his class structure sucks. 3 tasks each is a 3 pg paper, 3 tests w/essay 3 pg each, and the final is comprehensive. He has a PhD. and acts like you should to. He has his own website that shows the assignments so you can see for yourself. If you dont like writing a lot of papers dont take him. Nice guy, but class and test hard.
Mr. Garrison is Hilarious!! i took him for Govt 1 and 2. He teaches at a slllooww pace and mumbles so its sometimes hard to understand...BUT its easy to just do the Tasks at home and just use the review posted on his page to review for test as well as his posted powerpoints, if u look over that you should be fine, U dnt really even need to show up
Professor Garrison is an average professor. His class lacks any real structure and his lectures are not informative. I was not able to solely rely on his lectures to do well on his tests. There are many essays dued but he is an easy grader in that area. I barely learned anything! But I must say...he is pretty much a fashionista for his age!
This Professor is very rude. He treats you like an idiot if you ask him questions. He is arrogant and gives too many ridiculous assignments. You can find someone better and more lax than him. His teaching style is an embarrassment and his assignments really show how bad of a Professor he is.
Like what others have said, creeps out everyone especially girls. Tasks and essays are ridiculous, even though he gives you his research. If you are the type of person that only STUDIES well for your grade, this is not the class for you. This guy will make you get involved with society like crazy for your grade. I have always been a good student, but you will not learn ANYTHING with him. I took a Tues/Thurs class. Literally, he would spend 45min at the beginning of class looking at internet websites and not teaching anything. And then when he did "teach" it was so incredibly dull that people just left. This guy has no control over his classes.

Probably one of my easiest Professors. There's a lot of work to do in his class, but he's an easy grader. His tests are not very hard, if you study the lecture notes and read the 3-4 chapters he expects per test, you can easily get an A. He's really into the subject and will actually teach you a lot through the class.

Garrison does not keep a very organized lesson plan. All assignments are on his website and he doesn't like to stick to due dates. The workload is high, and the lessons are confusing. He just sits and stares at the class a lot of the time, and makes plenty of **** remarks. Most people just skip class except for on due dates.
Dr. Garrison, is a really good professor, he is real knowledgeable about the subject. If you are looking to LEARN not just to have a grade, take him. There are projects and essays due,and you have to pace yourself in completing them on time. Easy grader, and with effort and work, you can get an A in his class.
High workload. The work itself isn't too incredibly difficult there is just so much of it and it's very time consuming. If you're really interested in the subject then this class would be great just be prepared to write 6 or 7 in depth essays in addition to numerous tests. Does give plenty of bonus opportunities throughout the semester!
Dr. Garrison knows his stuff, obviously, and I found his lectures quite engaging. Yeah, he's a little different...I just wasn't expecting the amount of work and I never did figure out what we were supposed to do.
Great Teacher! Great Course! I took this over maymester and it was a Tough A. Lots of work, mostly essays and short answers but in a full term should be no big deal. He is very wise and his lecture is very rewarding, albeit a bit unconventional but awesome. Everyone needs to take this course with Prof. Garrison!!
He's a little odd. He covers the material so SLOWLY, expecting students to pick up the slack, and like another commenter said, he sometimes just pauses in the middle...of a sentence...and stares at random students.
Absolutely awful. I have shown up to almost every single class and haven't learned anything. During most of his classes he spends his time going through the news or c-span. We watched Curios George for an entire class period once. This class is fairly easy if you can study by yourself and write multiple essays. He also delayed a test for 3 weeks...

Had to take his class twice just to get used to his style. If you can avoid him do so. He can be funny at times but he is not always clear. Taking notes is a very good idea in fact it is a must in his class. Test are long but not hard. It's his papers you have to spend most of your time on.

First of all, most bonus ops are worth about 5pts out of 1000 and are outdated or impossible to access. His lectures are slow-moving and unclear. He assumes everyone is unintelligent for not speaking. The work is long and arduous

I hate Government but Dr. Garrison keeps things very simple. If you fail his class its because you did absolutely nothing. You don't use the book. He gives tons of extra credit and new extra credit almost everyday over easy stuff. He is kinda scary to approach but once you do, he is so nice and helpful and is always quick to respond to any emails.

I took his GOVT 2305 class @ the Plano (Spring Creek) Campus. I liked him a lot. His assignments can be kind of long, & it's irritating to have to turn them in online AND in person, but overall his class was informative. He takes time to clarify confusing concepts & offers a TON of bonus opportunities. Taking him for TX Govt next semester.
I would say not to take his class if you are not smart enough. I skipped his so my classes and almost going to fail. But I got good grade. But still I would prefer not to choose him for international students. Not helpful and informative. Students make noise while talking to him. You have to read textbook lot and extra credits work for good grade.
Not so good at all.Cheerful but not so helpful and informative. You have to practice online chapter quizzes lot for exams(if you get bored to read text book) and lot of extra credit works to get good grade in his class. It is better to attend his class twice in a month.( if you registered his class already).
He was kind of intimidating during the first couple of weeks of class, but I actually really like him. He likes those that work hard. His lectures were dry and useless, and he assigns a lot... but he gives a TON of easy extra credit ops. If you're a dedicated, disciplined student that can keep up with all the quizzes, take him; if not, good luck.
I'd recommend for Federal gov, but NOT TX gov. He wants you to do several HUGE projects that include things like tax worksheets & attending city hall meetings. Pain in the ass! That being said, he posts his lecture slides online, so if you were dedicated you could easily ace the class without stepping foot inside it. Gives a lot of bonus ops though
He spends most of class talking about current issues rather than teaching about the government. He expects you to know what assignments he wants done but he doesn't ever tell you what it is he wants you to do. He changes his mind on the criteria of class work after you do it. His course load is insane and I spend my whole weekend doing his work.
The quizzes are online. All the exams are online. Both are difficult even with Google. Going to class is not worth it and extremely boring. All he does in class is read news out loud- IT DOESN'T HELP US AT ALL. He has a monotone voice. Bonus ops can raise your grade by up to 5 pts. TX GOVT class is expected to go to a city council meeting.
He clearly likes political science, given he's been around seemingly forever Although, he isn't very helpful when it comes to detailed answers to your questions. He expects you to almost completely rely on his website for answers, which is a tad chaotic. This course might as well been strictly an online course.
He is so disorganized it drove me crazy. Not a difficult class to pass because of all the extra credit he gives, but ridiculous amounts of work and a huge project that makes you go to a city meeting and write about it. Lectures exceed class time nearly every class. Got an A, but hated every minute of it.
I hope you arent taking this class to learn anything because you wont. I only went to class because the person I carpooled with had a class at the same time. This was the worst class I have taken, I didnt learn anything. Although if you want an easy grade all the chapter quizzes are online and so are the three exams.
Taking Garrison was the biggest mistake of the semester. He's unclear, assigns an unnecessary amount of assignments, is not helpful at all and makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. His lectures are irrelevant, tests suck and he doesn't give enough time to answer 100 questions. Best thing about this class is its over.
Dr. Garrison is a really nice guy and very intelligent, but his class is very unclear. He is very disorganized and has no clear due dates. He's quite condescending and expects that no one knows what he's talking about. I would not advise taking his class.
Not a very clear class like said above, he seems to be more of a debate like teacher and does not actually help in class with tests. Emails back pretty late not right away and is not very clear in emails sometimes.
I'm being serious when I say you'll regret taking this mans class. All quizzes, homework, and exams are online. He gives out nothing in class besides pop quizzes that count as extra credit, but never enters it in the grade book. He does not teach, he reads the newspaper to you. You have to learn the course yourself. And he takes attendance.
Poor excuse for a professor. Does not email you back, assigns extra credit that he will not put in the grade book. Assigned over 100 items over the semester. All online. Just reads the newspaper in class, does not cover material of the class. Attendance affects grade, even though nothing is done in class. Avoid this class if he's the last option.
He was a nice guy but, a horrible professor. He never actually taught the class and expected you to do so many things at once. He would assign so much work that it would be so hard to keep up with. I just think that the man should go ahead and retire.
Prof G is... grandfatherly. Dry humor. I HAVE NEVER USED AN ENTIRE BOOK FOR ANY CLASS, EVER. You need it. Along with the code for PoliSciLab for assignments. He gives a ridiculous amount of work throughout the semester BUT gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. Not clear, need to ask him to clarify, a lot. I made an A, but worked like crazy.
Awful. All of our work was done online. Our lecture time was spent wasted listening to him babble about the news and looking at you like you didn't know what he was talking about. when really we did not understand why we had to sit there and watch him browse the internet. Yet, attendance was mandatory and there was a massive amount of work--online
Most of the lectures were full of awkard silences because he asks a lot of rhetorical questions but also questions that you should answer. So the students were always confused and put off by the lectures.
Dr. Garrison wasn't very helpful and his lectures were rarely on topic, but everything is online which makes this class an easy A. Quizzes, tests, extra credit, and even the final was online and were pretty easy. He gives two papers at the beginning of the class that are due at the end so as long as you stay on top of these the class should be easy
Dr. Garrison was a literal pain in my side. Showing up to his class is mandatory until the end of the census date. THIS IS BASICALLY AN ONLINE CLASS. Everything is online(even test). Beware of two major assignments due. Lots of Extra credit. Show up to his class like once a week for him to at least know who you are. overall wasn't a horrible class.
Firstly, he doesn't lecture. He reads the newspaper and news websites and goes from article to article asking questions like "Allen high school, anyone go there?" Doesn't really contribute to Texas government. You have to pay $65 for the online portion, which is basically the entire class. Then a ton of other work for a "folder." WOULDN'T RECCOMEND
He is not helpful at all, theres really no point in going to class because his lectures are all about him reading a newspaper and asking questions about current events that have nothing to do with the actual class. He assign 2 big assignment at the beginning of the semester and is not very clear about it and its all due the last day of class.
There is a ton of homework (essays & summaries) city council meeting and he changes the criteria the day before it is due sometimes making it hard to get done without procrastinating. The tests are online and there is revel aside the homework which deals with the book. Revel has tests after every chapter and quizzes after every unit.
His lectures are reading a newspaper, he keeps it simple and if you do everything correctly then you get an A.
First off the class was terrible. More specifically he does not teach. Also the assignments are long and pointless. The grading criteria was idiotic to say the least and if that is not enough he made the bonus points at least for me mandatory. I have had professors that made me despise a class before but I truly hate him. Whats more is he hates us.
You basically could skip the whole semester and only show up to turn in the major assignments. Really nice guy just had boring lectures.
Dr. Garrison was a good professor, his class is pretty straight forward. Only two tests, and two papers!
His lectures are dry as is his sense of humor, and most of what you need is in the Text (And you will need a new textbook or at least access to the online bits) However he offers a mountain of bonus point opportunities, usually in the form of go do a thing and write a one page paper about it.
if you want a class where lectures dont matter here you go, but dr garrison has his political steriotypes. he told me to shut up on multiple occasions, because i questioned him. his lecture is his rant session about current media. the class isnt hard, just painful to sit through. you can look up answers while taking quizes and tests.
Do not take this professor. His in-class lectures are simply him reading the news aloud, which has no real correlation to the course. All grades are from the tests and the online book portion. Reading and quizzing over the book is weekly. The class itself is unnecessary and an annoyance. The tests are easy; you can literally google the answers.
Do not take this professor. He talks about current events, whatever sports shirt your wearing. Likes to guess your ancestry while calling roll. But does absolutely nothing in class pertaining to texas government. In fact going to class confused me more than just staying home and treating it like an online course.
Honestly learned more by staying home and reading my textbook than coming to class. Spends most of the class time on irrelevant topics. Long lectures that I really didn't benefit from. Would not recommend
dont get me wrong, sweet guy, but he doesnt teach in class at all. Like at ALL. You basically have to teach it yourself from the book. All the hw is directly from the book as well. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities but he is poor with technology and does not grade on time or answer emails. Good class if you can teach yourself
Go to his class once in a month, practice quiz over and over again for 3 major exams, couple of writing assignments,. That's all. Easy class for A but very unorganized and disruptive.
This class is literally a joke. He teaches absolutely NOTHING in class. He'll spend 30 minutes just taking attendance. All homework and test were online. You have to teach yourself everything. I learned nothing about government from him.
This teach uses profanity, yells at the class, and is so unorganized. He goes off for tangents very often. He literally will chase ads and read you the news very slowly. He makes you check in at the beginning of every class. He counts you absent if you try and use your laptop to do anything productive. This professor is the worst I have ever had.
Collin College should let this professor go. This professor hated us, as shown by his uncaring, disjointed, and angry lectures. Mostly he focuses on the "stupidity of the class" or how we are horrible millennials. For your sanity, do not take this class. I didn't learn anything and left frustrated everyday. This was honestly the worst professor.
Horrible class. He does not follow his curriculum and does not teach. He expects you to read the text and know everything without having to learn it from him. He does not give clear instruction on papers or homework. If you ask a question, he will not answer it. He will not fix any Canvas problems, even if it is a problem on his part.
Most frustrating class I have ever taken. I'm not good at government in the first place so this class is my nightmare come true. He doesn't teach and it's basically a waste of time to go to class. Do not bother taking this class if you have him as a professor.

On several occasions he spent an entire hour just taking attendance. Afterwards he will usually go to a news site and read off headlines. All tests were online. His class is VERY easy- I started skipping his class altogether after a few weeks. If you want an easy A, this is the class to take. Don't plan on learning anything though.
His lectures were very boring when I took him. Very easy to pass, but he didn't really lecture in his lectures, he just made you sit there while he looks at the Texas Tribune and will actually lecture once in a blue moon. You only need the textbook for the online Inquizitive assignments. His research papers are also kinda ridiculous, but easy.
Dr. Garrison's classes were the most challenging and required the most studying of my entire undergraduate career. But the lessons have remained with me for three decades. If you want to learn to think critically, to debate with confidence, and study our political system extensively, these are the classes for you. My favorite professor, hands down.
