great teacher, made class interesting and fun -- what a concept!
interesting course, great examples
don't understand him very well
Boring... goes off on tangents all the time.
great teacher. He loves his work.:)
very easy class, some what boring
Good sense of humor; made class interesting; REALLY loves what he does.
Sometimes I can't figure out what in the world he's talking about.
hard to sit through lectures, but tests were easy if you know the definitions
easy class but boring lectures
nice guy, lets you turn in late work. no questions asked
The lectures are boring, but the class itself and work is easy. Tests are hard.
interesting class. He is very nice & funny and the class isn't hard
Easy class and don't need to read the book, just study notes for tests
great class, interesting, hillarious, awesome!!!! Tests easy, essays easier!!!
Easy essays, 1 midterm and final. Just study vocab words an get an A.
easy and interesting class, nice guy, dont buy book!!
great! Don't need book, its all on the internet just get the website from class

easy class... come to class take note, study notes for test. do ur paper, doesn't care abot grammar. easy teacher, lect might be a lil boring sometimes, he'll let you out 10-15min early sometimes
He's pretty funny and there is never homework. Tests are all vocab. Don't be late.
If you want an enriching experience do not take this class. He is rather apathetic to the students. The class is far too easy. You do not have to go to class, and the essays are very simple. Take another teacher, because you should get more for your money

Great teacher! Interesting lectures and videos. An enriching course.
GREAT TEACHER! TEST VERY EASY. FOR HOMEWORK EXTREMLY EASY. KNOWS HIS INFO. I NEVER WENT TO CLASS AND I STILL PASSED!
great teacher, short easy essays, and simple tests. but students still learn. recommended
Very easy, all test on vocab, not that helpful, but great class for athletes...easy papers, don't be late...DO NOT SLEEP IN CLASS...it makes him angry...hardly have to come...the whole test is on the vocab, nice guy...easy class
funny teacher.....essays are easy...grammars count....tests a little weird....read book carefully
funny guy! good teacher...but at 8am it was alittle hard to stay awake. learned after midterm that you don't really need to go to class...tests are basically vocab. easy grader on papers...recommend!
Awesome teacher, makes his points very clear. He makes you think and want to go to class. Very funny guy. Tests and papers are easy if you apply yourself

very easy class to be in
Very friendly, funny. Overall, easy papers, fairly easy tests. Don't show up late to class or sleep. Never read the book. Get to watch some interesting documentaries. I highly recommend him!
Good teacher, interesting and knows his stuff. Really easy, don't need to read or even go to class much. 2 really easy papers. good class
Easy Teacher and interesting class.
He is such a great teacher. I am still taking the class but I really like it alot. He is an easy paper grader and very funny and outgoing. My fave prof so far!!
Very easy, tests have nothing to do with lecture. Some papers relate to lecture but not often. Don't be late, if you are just don't go. Midterms are all on info from the book, study vocab and you'll be fine.
The coolest professor i've had so far... you don't need to go to his lectures but they're so entertaining that youll still want to. tests are all terms, and papers are graded pretty much on formatting. study the cd that comes with the book.
a really easy class, small ass. every now and then, nothing that major, easy grader, don't really have to read...just DON'T be late, and laugh at his oh so corny jokes. I got an A, and didn't really go that often!
Highly recommend! Really knows his stuff. Tests are just vocabulary terms. Just review Study Guide(booklet thing). Three papers, real easy A's. If need to take him for 3hr class, no problem. Let's you out early. Nice, not boring.
I love him soo much! He is a very good teacher because he actually knows what he is talking about it. DO NOT BE LATE!!! Go to class it is very entertaining...but if you miss it, its ok just get the notes from someone!
he is awesome and hilirous... lectures are interesting. do not need to attend classes unless there is a paper due or a movie. Test are all vocab words! highly recommended!!!
Gauss is the best!! he is so easy and hilarious. his tests are easy just know the vocab and review your notes a bit. This guy knows his stuff too, he gets you really interested in sociology.
Dont be late- if ur going to be jsut dont go. most interesting class ive ever taken. he is funny, knowledgable! tests are cake, papers are cake, take the class!!! its awesome, easy, and will interest the depths of ur little brains!!! =)
has to be the du,best class ever....does not know how to teaqch at all..he blabs the whole time since it is an atlete class..and expects you to know everything when it comes to finals ...AVOID if you wanna learn something
this professor is very interesting and very funny, the only thing bad is that he get really mad if you show up late or fall asleep in his class.
really cool...loves wearing vests...easy to relate to and understand his lectures...my favorite professor this semester! Lecture notes won't help much for mid-terms though.
An okay professor, he does love those vests! i took the 700-940 class which was the only reason i wish the class was better. Tests are easy, mainly vocab. You earn your grade by writing two analytical papers, a couple response short essays and two exams. GO TO CLASS and DONT BE LATE, you'll be fine.
Gauss is so easy, he writes all his points on the board, and has great stories to go along with each one. class ALWAYS got out at least one hour early.(it was a night class!) his papers were so easy and his tests were just vocab from his lectures, dont buy the book u won't need it and take his class
great prof. make the class interesting. the late class is the best where we always leave early. the test are easy mostly terms from the text. no point in reading the text because you only really need to go over the the topics mentioned in class.
DONT BE LATE HE WONT LET YOU IN. TEST ARE BASED ON VOCABULARY FROM THE BOOK YOU DONT NEED TO GO TO CLASS JUST LEARN THE VOCAB BE THERE FOR THE 3 PAPERS AND YOU WILL PASS. TEST ARE VERY EASY DONT BUY THE BOOK COPY THE VOCAB FROM SOMEONE ELSE!! WASTE OF MONEY
Easy class, just know the vocab and dont be late on the days you do decide to show up. Even though the subject is kind of boring Gauss made the lectures interesting and often let class out early. Good sense of humor too.
so freaking easy. study vocab and you'll get an A. i got a B because i was never there for the in class video paragraph things. attendance doesnt count for much besides this. dont be late. youll get crap for it.
really energetic and engaging. it was my night class on thurday nights and he was so entertaining that i never thought about skipping. doesnt even read the papers just makes sure the key elements are there. great guy.
Good teacher, take him! Easy grader, just wrote 3 papers- research, subculture, & stigma. Dont fall asleep in class..lmao. Funny teacher, great lectures in class. The final is the same format as the midterm. If yur gonna be late to class, make sure you go thru the 2nd door.Doesnt like to be disturb
ya so easy, take this class
Horribly boring! Everything he talks about is common sense. Not interesting at all. Don't take this class if you want to learn something, take it for an easy A. Don't be late to class, he gets bitter. Oh yeah... and he makes a funny sound with his lips. haha.
Take this class if you can fit it in. Not always so interesting, but an easy A. He gave us a study guide for the final and literally everything on there was on the final. Never touched the textbook, and went to class like 7 times and got a B+.
Very easy... papers simple but make sure u proof read and cite any and everything... tests all vocab
Seriously, a GREAT teacher. When he first walked in I thought it might be a tough class, he looked kinda mean. But he is so funny and interesting. He has experience in his field too, which is great. I highly recommend this teacher!
Easy grader. Only three papers that you write from experience. Make sure you go to class the days he lectures on the paper cuz his outlines for them don't make sense on their own. Tests are easy if you know vocab. Don't be late! He gets pissed.
easy teacher, interesting class, makes weird whistling noises. very funny.
super easy class...take it!! only two exams...basically vocab from book, he curves the grades :D the class is interesting.. very funny guy
excellent professor. really knows his stuff. tries to throw people off on the first day because he is very sarcastic, but if you attend class you are guaranteed an A. only 3 homework assignments. gives lots of extra credit. best professor i've had at sdsu by far
My fav teacher so far at SDSU. Three papers where you write about personal experiences. Very easy A or B at least. Interesting to listen to and definatly go to the lectures where he explains the essays. Makes them remarkably easy. Decent test too. not hard.
I just took my final today...EAsy proff..Just 3 papers and two exams..It was an Easy and interesting class
Take this class!!!!! This teachers lectures are boring but it is worth it. The tests are easy and you only have 3 assignments. He grades really easy. Don't be late and you will be fine. Very nice and cares about his students. He shows interesting documentaries.
TAKE GAUSS!!! He is so easy and understands his students. Only 3 papers and 2 tests. If you go to class and are time, you're garaunteed an A. I was only there half the time and got a B. He's not a prick about late papers either. I turned in a paper like a month late and he didn't grade me down for it being late. GREAT PROF!!!
Gauss is an awesome professor. He makes his lectures interesting and is enthusiastic and informed. Doesn't make us do boring busy work. Makes you interested in the subject
Gauss is the best! He's easy and enjoyable. Sarcastic, but in a funny way. Three papers, two tests. His final isn't bad. Read the book and you'll be fine.
Gauss is awesome. He's nice, easy, teaches from experience and lectures are always interesting. Assignments and tests are easy. He always ended the night class early!
Great teacher. Knows his stuff but always unprepared for lectures. All of his tests are from the book. Only 3 papers (super easy, got an A on all three) and 2 tests. Do all of the reaction papers and you're guarateed a B or an A. Always ends the class early!
Great professor! This guy made my 8 AM class worth coming to. He gets you interested in the material and keeps you awake most of the time. All papers were easy, and the two tests weren't too bad either.
SIMPLY AWESOME! HE EVEN RETURNED MY CALL TO TELL ME I GOT AN A ON MY POSITION PAPER. HE IS AN INSPIRATION TO CONTINUE GOING TO SCHOOL DURING A HECTIC TIME. HE IS VERY FAIR AND VERY ACCOMMODATING. HIS LECTURES ARE FUN BECAUSE HE GETS YOU INVOLVED.
Interesting teacher. Cool guy. Has a good way of analyzing things. Uses the class's participation to arrive at a fair conclusion regarding the topic. Easy class if you are just taking it for GE with no interest in the topic.
Gauss is a good teacher. Only 3 papers and two tests. All of the tests come directly from the book. Go to class, write three easy papers and your almost guranteed an A or B.
soo easy, take this class for an easy A
This class is one of the best classes at SDSU. This profesor has a good understanding of the subject and curves his test. That is so awesome. If you miss out on this class you'll regret it i know i would've
although easy, the class is sooo boring. i had to drink coffee before i went to not fall asleep. the guy is not organized whatsoever. i would recommend just read the book and go during movie days cause you have to write reviews on them. and get to know people in class, it helps.
horrible teacher, he's one of those professors who you have no idea what they look for as far as grading your tests, I went to class everyday, read, studies my notes and still got a C, I'm a senior and took this for grad credits and tend to do very well in all my classes, but this one surprisingly wasn't that great. don't take him
EASY CLASS EVEN IF UR NOT INTERESTED IN SOCIOLOGY...LIKE THE TYPICALL GE IT IS JUST MEMORIZING...BUT THIS DONT REQUIRE TOO MUCH OF IT PLUS ITS INTERESTING...BUY THE BOOK TAKE OUT THE CD AND PUT THE BOOK BACK BECAUSE THE CD ALONE WILL GET U AN A. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Great Professor, knows what he's talking about and is interested in it. Theres only 3 papers and 2 tests plus some easy one page write-ups on movies you watch in class. He gives some extra credit. Participate in class, he'll love it and it'll make it much more interesting!
I really enjoyed his class. Sociology was already an interest of mine but he makes it even more interesting. He goes off on tangents a lot, but that's probably the best part. I loved his teaching style. You do need to come to class and read the book, but the tests aren't too hard.
This class was boring. really easy though. for tests just go to the text book online and take the quizzes and do the study guide quizzes. you'll get an A on the test. the papers are easy and the page write up on movies are credit no credit. easy class overall. Dont fall asleep or look like you are going to, he'll call you out.
If you are interested in Sociology, he brings a lot of knowledge to the class. He's genuinely interested in the subject. Easy papers, tests are all from the book material so the class is easy to pass. He never makes you stay to the end if you're a night student. That's the best part :)
Great teacher, probably one of my favorites at sdsu. Classes can seem a little slow at times but he teaches about interesting things and his requirements and grading are extremely reasonable.
EASY class, easy grader.i got an A on every paper.tests are mostly common sense,ALL from the book&u actaully need to read the chapers. easyeasyeasy B, pretty easy A.funny prof in an inappropriate way. just go to class and take ur computer to class and do other homework,in case he gives out extra credit.NIGHT CLASS ALWAYS LET OUT SUPER EARLY
If you want an easy class, take it!!! There are only 3 papers, and he gives plenty of extra credit. There's 2 tests but they're like 100 questions long. It's an easy class though, and you have to read the book.
SO BORING but easy class. if you fall asleep in class, which many do he will make you leave.
awesome prof, likes to go off on tangents but his stories are entertaining. gets pissed off if you fall asleep, come in late, or are fooling around on laptops. reactionary papers are easy, show up to class in case he takes attendance, follow the outlines he gives for papers. tons of videos to watch. sometimes lets you out early, sometimes late.
Relaxed teacher that portrays his knowledge and familiarity of the subject through lectures.
Professor Gauss is an excellent professor. He is very clear and knowledgable on the subject. EASY class and easy A's on papers. Take him especially NIGHT CLASS since you get out early.
very cool and approachable guy. He definitely knows what hes talking about and make sure its not difficult to understand. Very interesting videos and night class lets us out usually under a hour or when the video is done. Definitely recommend for 101 or 150. wish he was teaching upp division
Easiest class ever! You don't even need the textbook. Instead of buying the book, just spend about 12 dollars on making copies throughout the whole semester from the test file book at the library. Turn in your papers early so that you can get some feedback if you need to fix it.
ok class. just do the 3 papers and 2 reaction papers. dont need to go to class except for the first day-just read the chapters before the mid-term and final. test is mostly common sense, but a little tricky. he puts a curve on the two tests and on the class. not bad for a GE course, and mr gauss is a funny guy. usually lets you out an hour early

mr gauss is a cool guy, but a little scatter-brained. go to class on the first day to get the syllabus and make a friend in class who can tell you if he changes the days that any of the papers are due. don't need to go to class, let alone take notes. you need the book to read before the mid-term and final. he curves the test grades and class
interesting lectures. very scatterbrained. he changed a lot on his syllabus but usually theres 3 papers and 3 tests. tests are a little tricky so make sure to read the book but they are mostly from lecture. let our class out super early every time. if you act interested he will like you a lot.
I took this course during the summer. It was a pretty easy class. 2 response write ups. 1 paper and 2 MC exams. Don't take notes, the exams are straight from the book. He uses a bank of exam questions from the book. Lets class out super early!

A MUS TAKE!! CLASS IS SUPER EASY. DON'T BOTHER TAKING NOTES JUST REVIEW THE CHAPTERS' REVIEWS AND MEMORIZE THE VOCAB FOR THE MIDTERM & FINAL.
This class was super easy and actually pretty interesting. Always let out early and pretty much gives you and A on each essay if you follow the instructions. Dont need to read the textbook just use it for the terms. Tests are pretty straight forward
Great teacher! Keeps class pretty interesting and super easy class. He keeps reserves in the library that REALLY help you for studying for the tests. Easiest A I have gotten at state and one of the more interesting professors at State. Always lets the class out early.
SOO EASY!! Definitely recommend! Interesting videos. Must go to class when there is a guest speaker to get extra credit. I got a 98% in the class. No need to go to regular lectures but must buy the book because that is where the text questions come from
AMAZING teacher. Interesting lectures, always lets out early. Guest speakers are very interesting, do write ups and get extra credit. Tests are on the vocab of each chapter, know it well bc some answers are tricky. One of my favorite classes so far. I got an A
He is not a great teacher whatsoever. We went over the same thing everyday and stayed on the same slide for about three weeks meeting twice a week. He never remembers what he talked about so he repeats a lot. He shuts you down if you give the wrong answer. DOES NOT PREPARE you for test at all. You must read the book to do well on them. Easy overall
It seems people like this class because they say it?s easy. This can be true if you actually do everything he doesn't tell you to do. He says don't get the book. You need to read to book. Easy also comes with a decrease in quality. Gauss is not a good professor. While some of his lectures are interesting, you do not come out learning much.
NEVER WENT TO CLASS. Got a 100% on the final. This class is retardly easy. He doesn't know anything about technology but if you want a good grade...Gauss is your man! A in the class. Midterm was the same as the final. Take his night class, he never taught more than an hour. It's amazing.
He is easy, but you have to write a lot of "response" papers about guest speakers or documentaries. He came to class 1/2 the time, the other 1/2 he had his TA put on a documentary. He definitely talks about the same thing for 3 weeks. Didn't learn anything.
Great professor! Enjoyed his class. Pretty easy, very clear, knows what he's talking about. Good stuff!
every lecture in ths class was interesting! he really knows how to express himself in front of a class. the tests and assignments were ridiculously easy. i studied two hours before the midterm and received an A. higly recommend
CLASS WAS EASY. I LOVED IT, IT WAS VERY INTERESTING AND NOT HARD AT ALL. JUST MAKE SURE YOU TAKE NOTES ON HIS SLIDES, THEY ARE HELPFUL WHEN STUDYING THE TESTS. HE SAYS U DONT NEED THE BOOK, BUT YOU KINDA DO...IT HELPS ALOT. I DIDNT BUY THE BOOK BUT PASSED WITH A B. SO I RECOOMMEND BUYING IT IF YOU WANT AN A! HE IS FUNNY AND AWESOME!
I've literally gone to this class four times the entire semester and I have an A in the class. You don't need to go OR buy the book. Just have someone in the class send you their notes and go over them and you'll ace it. He's pretty funny when you do go and his night class gets out at least an hour early almost every time.
I love this man! He's great!
prof Gauss's lectures were pretty interesting and he can be funny. only 2 exams and they were EASY! gives a study guide with vocab words from the book and thats all you need to know. also have to write a few papers, but he's an easy grader. gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities. DO NOT show up late, he will kick you out.
His class is easy but all the extra credit dosn't count for anything. He dosn't have a gradebook and bases your whole grade on the finale.I learned the hard way he screwed me over.
Prof. Gauss is a great Soc. professor. I thoroughly enjoyed two of his classes; he is extremely knowledgeable and has a great teaching style. You will learn. Take him.
I took him for 101 and 102 and i loved his class! I only went to class to turn in extra credit and papers. The midterm and final were all based out of the book and handbook. Just study that and you will do great! I recommend this class!
Best prof. at state!!! take him, highly recommended!!!!
Prof Gauss is an intellegent man, extremely helpful and very sweet, he gives examples from life experiences. I didn't like sociology in high school but because of him I'm going to major in sociology. thanks prof.
prof gauss is a one in a million prof, very helpful and his lectures are amazing.
This class isn't very good if you're expecting to learn a whole lot, it's more of a class that retells you what you already know in a different way. He gets off topic a lot but he's a great guy SUPER easy grades everything on a curve. But you do need to buy the book or you wont do well on the final, He's not very clear on homework but easy grader.
I like him. Class discussions are very interesting. The only thing I don't like about taking his class was that he will not let you in if you're late by even one minute! If it's 8:01 and class starts at 8:00 he will say "sorry, too late" ugh I hate that!
A very great guy. Made SOC interesting. He also tells great stories.
Easy GE class. One midterm and a final, 4 essays scattered throughout the year. Interesting class overall though he would let us out after an hour even though it was a three hour class
Very interesting class and great professor. It's an easy A if you study for the tests. I'd recommend him.
The tests are based completely on the book so read the chapters and memorize the vocab. I only went to class to turn in the papers and got an A easily. He is interesting but not always relevant to the class
Really cool guy. I took him Tuesday nights from 7-9:40. We were always out by 8:30 at the latest. 3 easy essays that I hardly tried on but always got an A or a B. One midterm and a final. Class is on a high curve. Easy class and cool professor. If you need a SOC 101 credit take him!
I had him for one of those dreadful near-3-hour classes, but he always let us out like an hour early. There was a huge mishap with the tests for my section (he made some stupid mistakes) but otherwise, the essays were easy enough and he made things interesting.
Best Socio class around. Take it once a week and he will let you out 1 hour early 90% of the time. One midterm and final. Three papers, all which are easy. Read the book and memorize the vocab and you'll have an easy class. (May go off topic a bit and sometimes might repeat a lecture)
Well informed professor. Lectures are useless in reference to the exams but they're always interesting. He does kick people out for being late so I wouldn't recommend it. Exams are based off the book only, so i hope you enjoy reading.
Great Teacher!!! One of my favorite professors at State. Class is not mandatory, but I had so much fun that I wanted to go to class. He tries to act hard, but he really has a soft spot and is an extremely helpful educator. Self admits he is an easy grader.

Gauss's lectures are useless in regards to the tests, but are very interesting, don't show up late or he'll kick you out. He has 2 exams (100 pt each) which are based ONLY on the book,4 writing assignments (very easy to do last minute and he grades easily), and a few reaction papers (one pagers) to videos he assigns as hw. Offers extra credit too.
TAKE HIM!!!!!! BEST CLASS & EASY !!! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
TAKE HIM!!!! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!1
Tests are based on the textbook, but Gauss doesn't always go over that information. He talks about relevant information, such as statistics, but really, all you need is the book. Attendance not mandatory. Take him, just study the book.
VERY EASY CLASS ! He is funny and interesting !! just do NOT be late !
He grades super easily. Four papers that are very simple. 2 exams based on the book although he doesn't go straight out of the book. Before the exam he'll post key terms to know for the test. Take him if you can!
Professor Gauss is awesome. Doesn't teach much in lectures, but he is really interesting to listen to. 4 essays the whole semester, 2 tests. The essays are a piece of cake (takes 30 minutes max) and he doesn't really grade them, just gives everyone A's. The midterm and final killed me, be prepared to learn on your own. Overall, easy class!
TAKE GAUSS FOR SOC 101! Attendance isn't mandatory but his lectures are hilarious and entertaining! Do not show up late because he will call you out in front of the class. All writing assignments are easy. Many extra credit opportunities. 2 tests (questions based on text book)
EASY. He's fun and easy going and is flexible when it comes to due dates with papers (as long as you have a proper reason). Lots of extra credit assignments available that i suggest you take advantage of. I didn't use the book at all. I just took notes and reviewed those and did well on the tests. Really cool and relaxed professor.
Easy class! but never he late to class or he will ask you to leave. a couple easy writing assignments and two tests. tests questions are hard to study for and most people don't do well on them. but the writing assignment and extra credit will boost your grade so much! highly recommend this class
I Love him and like this class so much. Very informative class
Love him! Don't even think about taking his classes offered with a different professor! You learn a lot, and his lectures are super interesting, and he's funny. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you wouldn't even want to miss his class anyway. if you pay attention and read the textbook, the tests are easy and he curves. Easy class and teacher. got A
Don't buy the textbook, we never used it. Lectures are boring, but this is where he explains assignments so I would recommend going. He offers an extra credit assignment almost every week; they are only one point but they add up quickly. There are 4 papers which are extremely easy to write and a midterm and a final. Overall simple and easy class.
He does a great job of teaching his course and engaging the students. The 2 tests are pretty easy if you listen in class and they are curved. The papers are not hard but he does not describe how to do them well. It is kind of ambiguous but doable.
Prof. Gauss Mondays night course was great. He usually ends early, 1hr ish lecture. He teaches through his knowledge of Sociology and uses powerpoint slides as outlines. Be sure to listen and take notes. He defines a lot of concepts. 5 Papers and he gives you outlines for what to cover. FOLLOW IT. Midterm and Final are Sorta easy. DO EXTRA CREDITS!
I loved Prof. Gauss' class, it was the only class were attendance was not mandatory but I was most excited for it. The assignments were super easy and he always changed the due dates to give us more time. There were tons of extra credit opportunities and I never even bought or looked inside the text book. 910 class ended early.
Gauss was an awesome professor. His lectures can be a little boring because he talks a lot but he gave out ENDLESS extra credit assignments (which were super easy) and I got A's on all 3 papers. The only downfall is that his test are hard, that's what hurt my grade.
Super easy class! basically show up and pass he gives soooo many extra credit paper and theres only 2 tests total it's hard not to pass this class and the information is pretty common knowledge.
Gauss definitely knows what he is talking about and kept me interested in the class. You have to write a few papers in this class but they are easy and some of them are fun! I would definitely recommend you take Gauss if you're going to take SOC 101
Gauss is a great professor! He sometimes goes off on tangents but he is adorable and loves connecting his personal experiences to his lectures. Four papers, two tests, he grades the papers pretty easy but the tests are somewhat difficult. Classes often don't take up the entire time and he offers lots of extra credit.
He's really interesting to listen to. His class is once a week for two hours and 4o minutes but I think we got out after 1 hour every single time. Just a warning: he hates when students come in late, sleep, eat, talk, etc. and WILL call you out and ask you to leave. attendance is not mandatory so only go if you will pay attention (which i suggest)
Super chill teacher goes off on rants a lot. Don't really have to show up only have 4 really easy paper he barely reads them and they're mainly opinion based. Super good class defiantly try and get Gauss
ok teacher. not very clear in lectures but has a lot of extra credit and is willing to help if needed. four essays but they are pretty easy. he is pretty funny and appears to know what he is talking about.
Very interesting lecturer who has many stories to go along with the material. Course consisted of 3. 5 page papers, 1 mid-term, and a final. Fairly easy class that I would recommend.
Interesting lectures. There are 4 papers, a midterm, and a final. Endless extra credit opportunities (writing reaction papers on certain documentaries for 1 pt each). Overall, it was an interesting class and I'd recommend it.
Gauss is always asking questions and getting the class to participate in discussion. He sometimes deviates from the topic, but is very knowledgeable in sociology. He assigns four papers that are always interesting to write, a test, and a final. MANY extra credit opportunities with reaction papers. Only read the textbook for the tests.
the class was alright. he's somewhat funny sometimes. he pushes the essay deadlines back frequently. make sure you do the reaction papers because they will save your grade. the essays are 4-5 pages and were really tedious and hard to reach the page requirement. the final has some questions from the midterm
Really easy class if you show up and do the essays. He grades rather easy and is lenient with deadlines. His lectures are interesting and hes funny. He also gives tons of extra credit. Gives key terms to study for midterm and final. Never bought the book and I got an A.
Super easy class! 4 papers, a midterm, & a final. Papers are 2-5 pages, not too hard. Midterm required a bit of studying but was manageable. Final was VERY easy, I studied for 20 mins before and got an A. Barely went to class but it helps to go before papers are due. He is so funny and passionate about sociology so lecture isn't too bad. Recommend!
Gauss is the man. If you're looking for a fun, interesting, and easy GE take his class. He's hilarious, attendance is not mandatory, and he often lets out class early. Not to mention there are only two tests and a few research papers.
At first I thought this class was long an boring, but the lectures got more interesting as the semester went on. Gauss tells a lot of great stories during his lectures and he is really funny. The papers are easy and he gives out lots of extra credit, which is also easy. Study for the midterm and final too. I would love to take this class again.
Gauss is a really cool professor. There are only 5 assignments and 2 tests, midterm and final. There are a lot of opportunities for extra credit, like watching a documentary and writing a page about it. And test answers come straight from the book
Pretty easy class. He gives a ton of extra credit opportunities, but he is kinda all over the place with his lectures. A lot of what he talks about isn't related to the book, and the tests are based off the book! 4 easy papers and 2 exams. He's an oddball and is often forgetful, but this is an easily passible class, so I recommend taking it.
4 essays, a midterm, and a final. The essays are easy As. He gets off track and is weird but entertaining. Attendance isn't mandatory or even necessary but do NOT show up late or he will make you leave. The test is based off the book but there are some questions not covered in that or lectures. Reasonably easy though.
I loved this professor. His lectures can be somewhat unclear and he will likely go off topic. He is a really easy grader though and will assign a lot of extra credit. His tests are okay but you will definitely need to the read the textbook to cover topics he didn't. He will also sometimes end class early and makes lectures funny and interesting.
Grade is made up of 4 papers and 2 tests. Papers are easy, tests are ridiculous because they aren't out of the book. His lectures are pointless so turn in your papers and leave, only come to class for the tests honestly. The EC helps a lot and is usually pretty easy. Awful teacher but easy-ish class.
Gauss doesn't take attendance but I found his lectures entertaining and pretty much went anyways. Gauss is this old dude but he's pretty hilarious and you can tell he is passionate about sociology. There are a few papers you have to write but they only require minimum effort to get a decent score.
Easy class! Gauss is a very old guy, but really cool. One midterm which isn't too bad. About 4-5 essays, but they are pretty easy. Do not need to go to class often. He often lets class out early. Lots of extra credit reflection papers. I would do as many as I can to help get an A.
Honestly Gauss wants to go home as much as you do. His lectures are cool but theres times he's just like, watch this video at home, okay we're done. I like listening to him when he does lecture however. Good for people that can just listen and then read a bit in the textbook. Love this class
You have to read the book to know what's on the tests. The only time I would actually recommend going to class is the first day (to make a friend) and the class before the test because he goes over what will be on it. He offers extra credit, but they aren't worth that much. He will sometimes give random assignments in class, but it's very rare.
The requirement for Gauss's Sociology 101 is straight forward, two exams and four short papers. A textbook and reading are required since Gauss is not a great lecturer, and the exams are based on the book. Short two-page extra credit papers, based on PBS videos, are often given. Gauss is also very forgiving in his grading.
Based on 4 essays, 2 exams & some online. He didnt input anything to blackboard until the final exam with exception of 1 essay so i had no clue what my grade was until it was too late. The grading wasn't too tough but I dont recommend. Hes over-the-top sarcastic and lectures are boring. Contributed too much to my online shopping addiction.
Homework is for extra credit, so are reaction papers. Four papers and two tests are all the counts for grades. He makes the subject interesting, but he tends to forget what he is talking about. His tests don't always match what he teaches in class. Do the extra credit mindtap homework and you'll do well.
I love Gauss. He's so relaxed, let us out of class 15-45 minutes early most days. There are a lot of papers to write but he's a lenient grader and the midterm/final are both easy too. He's funny and tells a lot of stories. Also, he will call you out if you're on your phone during the whole lecture.
You don't even have to show up to class to get an A. His tests are directly from the textbook, and his lectures usually don't align with what the textbook is talking about. People hardly ever showed up, but the ones that did were offered extra credit. You can turn things in late, he forgets stuff all the time, easy A.
Dr. Gauss was great! I rarely attended lecture, but when I did he always had something interesting to talk about. This is definitely one of those courses where you can get away with barely showing up to class. Midterm and final consist of questions from the book, so if you read a few chapters and study key terms you'll do fine. Highly recommend
Easiest class at San Diego State hands down. You can receive an A without going to class. You have to write a lot of essays but you can write about anything because his TA reads it not him. If you do go to class its mainly focused on videos about social issues. His humor is sort of cynical and crude but i find it funny.
He really cares about what he is teaching and really cares about his students. If you have any questions on homework or due dates, he won't know so you'll have to ask his TA. He doesn't plan out his lectures much, just goes with the flow. He does not take attendance and the notes are minimal. Definitely recommend.
Assignment prompts are pretty vague; I think it's done with the intention of letting students go their own way, but in practice it's confusing and frustrating. It's true; the TA grades everything, bless them. Most class sessions were documentary viewings; cool, but sometimes irrelevant to the course content, especially since exams --> textbook.
Rambles off into tangents, he couldn't hear us because of his ear problem and it really distracted me because he had to have everyone repeat what they said. Calls you out if you're on your phone, eating, or late. Don't have to show up, just turn papers and leave. Forget to do one assignment? Automatic B, and that's if you get A's on your tests.
Gauss has really interesting lectures and the few papers you have to write in the semester are explained very clearly in those lectures. The midterm and final though are hard. They're based a lot less on the lectures and more on the (rarely used) textbook. Overall it's not an easy class but it's a very interesting class
You don't have to go to class except to take the tests and turn in your assignments. If you do go, he will call out those who are sleeping, late or using any electronic device. His lectures rarely have anything to do with the test and you'd be better off studying the textbook homework. TA grades everything. Easy A as longs as you do the assignments
I didn't go to most of his classes because all he would do is ramble off about irrelevant topics that have nothing to do with what we would be tested on. Basically it's a teach yourself everything from the online textbook sort of deal
He will wake you up if you fall asleep kick you out for being late or on phone/laptop class always out early. 6 page book review, 2 essays (5 pg each) 1 midterm 1 final (both straight from book 85-115 questions) 10 SUPER EASY reaction papers which are 2 pgs ea based on your opinion of documentary or film shown in class. grades on curve
If you find sociology interesting, you will love this professor. If you don't like soc, still take this class because you only need to read the book to pass, his lectures aren't on the test. There are 4 easy papers and 2 tests. The only thing is he is strict and odd.
Went to probably 3 classes max the entire semester, got 100 on midterm & final. I left after turning in assignments. Useless lectures, just read the textbook for info. Dont bother putting in a lot of effort on the papers just fulfill the requirements. Pretty insensitive guy, not afraid to kick people out of class for being late or eating.
Im a soc major so I don't really need to endlessly study to understand these basic soc concepts, but if you want to do well you're gonna want to buy the book. Test questions are mainly just big ideas and details from the book. Also, he made us retake the midterm because he didn't print out enough copies so he's kind of neurotic but I find it funny.
Funny guy. His lectures were fun but pointless. NEED THE BOOK! His test are simple but hard (if you dont read the book).
I took the 2 hr 40 min class and almost fell asleep every time. Besides a random joke here and there, lectures aren't exactly riveting, but assignments are graded easy as long as you follow the prompt. Not tech savvy so grades are posted much later. He hated people leaving early or coming late (but he usually released my class an hour early).
Gauss's class was ehhhh. I had his 2 hour and 40 min class and that alone was horrible. When I did go to class I hated myself for going since I knew I would be able to understand material better on my own. All the assignments were completely manageable and easy A's. The hardest part about this class is the midterm and final, be sure to study.
Hands down the most boring class I've ever taken. I eventually just stopped going because it was so pointless and I would always end up falling asleep. Made me turn in a paper 3 times because I didn't do "the APA right" EVEN THOUGH I went to a tutor. Papers are easy but he is a sporadic grader so you don't really know what you're going to get.
Funny but completely off the syllabus lectures. Just study from the book, no need to show up for class. Lots of papers but they're usually graded well. Helpful if you go to his office hours regarding any papers/scores. Gives many extra credit opportunities!
Gauss is fine. You really either are fine with him or you cant stand him because his class isnt very engaging. I got an A on every one of his papers, but you need to make sure you study for the midterm and final (heavily weighted). 400 pts: 100 pt midterm, 100 pt final, five 2 pt reaction papers, a 40 pt paper, and three 50 pt papers.
One of the easiest classes ive taken at state. The papers are annoying to write but he grades very easily. I probably went to class a total of 4 times. His lectures dont make a lot of sense so you have to read the textbook in order to do good on tests as they are heavily weighted.
Prof Gauss is very understanding and tries to engage in conversation during his lectures. Take him if you want an easy A. Because of his advanced age, he forgets what is due, but he usually extends his assignments giving us more time to work on it.
Gauss was a decent professor but he wasn't as invested in lectures, he uses a slide show to present the topics and he doesn't read off the screen which I liked but sometimes got boring, sometimes he told us interesting stories, sometimes made us watch videos. Attendance isn't mandatory so I stopped going after a while and the tests are decent
