Very funny. Nice. Interesting. Tests are OK too.
Easiest class I ever took. Had him his first semester here. All my tests were multiple choice. Easy. Lots of reading...great lectures.

This class was very interesting, he is really funny, a nice class to start your semester off with!
nice hair cut and shoes! He likes to ramble on about west texas, his wife, and his neck.
Gets sort of boring. Pretty easy. Read the text and you'll do fine. Tests are multiple choice. Study! Gets off topic but a good teacher!
Sociology of religion.....it wasn't what I was expecting but still very interesting. Tests were pretty easy, cause he gave the essay and short answer questions ahead of time...he didn't show up for class quite a bit as well.
This guy is SO entertaining! And he doesn't drag class on longer than it needs to be. Make sure you read the book though!
Really easy, class isn't too entertaining but you don't have to go that often
This class is very easy. Exams are multiple choice and he tends to follow the book. The class is very laid back. His lectures can be funny but can be extremely slow. Good class to take over the summer. All you really need to do is study the book.
I really enjoyed his class when it wasn't canceled. He's a very nice man. His class was usually pretty interesting. His tests were easy. He did like to get off topic talking about Texas and how he wanted a boat and his neck but whats wrong with that?
awesome teacher. lots of personal stories .i actually enjoyed going to class. cool guy
This guy rocks. Seems more like a guy you would meet at a party then a professor. Go to class ! His lectures help b/c he really knows his stuff, very intellegent. Read the book x10...test are not easy, but class makes up for it. usualy get out early too

i dont know why everyone is saying he rocks. his classes are absolutely the most boring 50 minutes of my day (when i go). the only good thing about this teacher is your grade is only 4 tests (he drops the lowest). tests are basically from the book. the class itself is pointless.
His test's are somewhat easy, just read and study vocab, you'll do fine. The class is very boring!!! If your major is sociology i wouldn't recommend taking him as a teacher, you won't learn much about it.
Dr. Gay is a great professor. He is laid back, funny, and charismatic. I enjoy going to his class, and he has no qualms when it comes to sending us home early if he thinks he has covered enough. I can remember at least 5 times when I was in class for no more than 20-25 mins, and he would say, "BYE!"
He's very nice, and definatly would be a fun guy to hang out with, but he can be somewhat lazy (This semester, for example, we've missed 8 classes). He has good stories, but his classes can still be boring, and almost 100% from the book. His tests are fairly easy, though, and he's very reasonable.
OMG, this guy is great. Laid back. Reminds me of a pot smoker. Good humor. Attendance isnt manditory, and the tests are pretty easy. Just read the book.
Very Easy, doesn't take attendance. Mumbles often. Always talks about Texas and what medical problems he is currently having. Make sure you study because he doesn't lecture too much in class about the material. Also, he cancels class often.
While the class was easy the man has no idea what he's doing. He doesn't teach - at all! The entire test is based on the book. I never went to his class and got an A. He doesn't even seem to have very good knowledge about sociology. If you actually want to learn don't take the class.
Ridiculously easy class. Tests are straight vocab tests from the book, everything in class is pretty much useless. He is a crazy Texas hippie who is actually very smart (went to Duke), but this is not always obvious in class. Class is really boring, but we usually get out early or don't go at all.
I don't know why I even attended the class. It took me a while to realize that the tests are based on the book, there is no point to show up everyday. The notes in the class were horrible. I studied using strictly his notes, and i failed a test. FYI, even when you do take notes, he mumbles, often.
He is the sweetest little thing! His class is very easy and the tests are mainly out of reading the vocab in the book. I recommend taking this class because it is a guantee passing grade!
absolutely horrible. i have nothing positive to say about this man. good-luck e-mailing him, i did three times over the semester and never heard back. you won't learn a thing. don't take him if you're looking to better yourself educationally.
Only attended on test days and made a B in the class. I probably could of made an A if I read more than just the key terms. Don't take this class if you want to learn anything.
very easy; very very easy; take notes, READ THE BOOK if u don't it will not be easy, pass the class got a B+
People just don't get how to study for his class. Don't come to class because he usually won't, don't try to take his mumbling notes because they're useless, STUDY the vocab for the chapters and you'll always get at least a B if not an A. Very easy - do it urself class. and he's hillariously weird
Dr. Gay is one of those teachers you have to love!! He's funny in that weird way...ya know. Make sure that you do the reading and know the vocabulary. Come to class if you want b/c you'll rarely stay the entire 50 min. The class is an easy A.
Instructor was nice and funny, but he usually smelled of booze and seemed hung over sometimes.
Very easy class, mostly lecture. Read the book and the tests will be a piece of cake. He is very relaxed and laid back. Would take another class from him again.
He is a cool guy, I recomend his class. He doesn't keep you the whole time, just gets to the point and lets you go. Very understanding if you have to do a make-up exam or assignment. Sometimes misses class due to medical problems. It is an upper level class so you must read the book.
Great guy. Funny, never keeps you long. tests are difficult but he is very helpful. Go into the class knowing you will have to study hard for the tests. I have taken him for 3 classes and he is awesome. Attend class and read the book, study and you will do fine. Easy to get a B. Work for an A

Unorganized, which is good because then he takes up a lot of class time. He goes off subject on stories that are already off subject. Read the book, and sorta listen, and you'll do spectacular.
The teacher is unorganized and likes to talk about personal situations that really have nothing to do with the subject. This makes lectures hard to follow. But, he deos give essay question that will be on the tests before hand. If you study these and review notes you will do well on the test.
Summer class so everything squished together. He goes off on a tangent when he tells his stories, makes no sense at all. Go to class and read beforehand, start studying as early as you can, then you can ace the class. His tests are notes & book
Mr. Gay is a sweetie, extra nice and attentive...!!!!
During class he talked more about his personal life than he did about sociology. If you have him, i recommend reading the book and doing the online site that has tutorial quizes to help you!
this is the easiest professor you'll ever have in ur entire life... his test are straight out of the book, infact they are the online tests on the book site, completely identical to the ones he gives... i only attended his class 5 times in a semester 3 of which were test days and ...studied 10 minutes with the online tests and got a B
this class is required before taking data analysis which made it hard to understand material. however, dr. gay was aware of this and also knew that this class was required for seniors, while only being offered once a year. Graded liberally and was highly approachable and understanding. Helped students through a difficult course cheerfully.
just read the book. don't bother listening to him, he's basically crazy.
he is so sweet. you can tell sometimes when he asks questions and noone answers that he gets a lil nervous>like he wants us to make him feel comfortable. its so adorable- it just makes you wanna say anything just to take that unsure look off his face. he goes on tangents, but they are funny. i think he is just a genuinely nice person, which is rare
a very sweet man!! read the book and you will do fine!! He is very nice, and pretty easy!
dr. gay rules. sometimes he's hard to follow but he's really nice and if you ask him or his aid for help after class they're always willing to help.
Dr. Gay is the sweetest prof you'll ever have. He gives a curve which is great. You don't have to go to class, but you should read the text and review the online questions.
He is a nice man, but a terrible teacher. He admittedly taught us the wrong concept for an exam! I can't understand a word he says nor his TA and this class is required, how is that fair? I studied for this class hard. Laugh at his jokes maybe you'll pass. He also teaches concepts hugely different from the book.
you'll be fine if you read the book and do the online quizes, you only have to show up to class 4 times and that's b/c there are 4 tests throughout the semester. overall he's really nice and friendly.
Dr. Gay means well but his lectures are very dull and hard to follow. The book is very helpful for the tests and the topics are interesting enough to want to read. He was very helpful when asked questions, but everything else he said was very unclear. The tests consist of random multiple choice questions and lots of essays - so be prepared!
His lectures are very boring, just read the book and you should do fine. His tests are all multiple choice, so it's not too bad.
Take him for sociology. Class is boring but you do not have ot go at all. I skipped all the times. Tests are all out of the book there are only 4 including finals. Take online review test that comes from the books website. Very Similar to those
Easy-going class but it is rather boring. Definitly take advantage of any online study guide available for the book because he doesn't really explain too much about most topics.
went three times, got an a. recommended. :)
Dr. Gay is such a sweet guy, and always willing to help. He has a great sense of humor. If you read the book, and take the online quizzes you will do fine on his tests. I enjoyed studying this subject.
prof gay is hilarious! you dont really have to go to class but if you do it helps you get that A plus a good laugh. He's always making fun of himself and we never stayed the whole class time ever! His tests are all mc, pretty easy and from the book but going to class can help. Wants everyone to do well dosent try to trick you on tests. LOVED him!
I took him during the summer and got an A in his class. He is such a cool guy-he tells the funniest stories! Definitely take Dr. Gay!!
funny guy like most people said. Go to class every other day to catch what's not going to be on the test otherwise everything he tells you in class is straight from the book. The test consist of questions the book publisher has made up soo you need to know how the text would phrase a question. The books online tests are similar to his. easy class
Dr. Gay is a great professor. He ralizes that this class is mandatory for sociology majors and he does everything he can to help you pass. He is very reasonble with tests and grades. 3 tests and 4 homework assingments. Make sure you study the terms!!!
fun for a mandatory stats class because he's laid back. he gives handouts to teach you how to do the problems for tests (or you can learn from the book). for tests, you have to work out those problems and he uses a lot of the multiple choice questions from the practice sections at the end of each chapter. easy for a class i expected to be hard
Funny guy. Just had to come to class and he'd give you all the notes you need to ACE the test. Otherwise just memorize most of the vocab and you're fine. Easy :).
He's nice and he has the funniest stories to tell. For the tests, make sure you know the definitions! There are 2 tests, a research paper, and a final. Unfortunately, he's not very clear during class, but when you keep up with the reading you'll be fine. You need to get used to his accent, plus he mumbles a lot. I can recommend him!
He was awesome as my first teacher as a Freshman. He keeps the class interesting. The tests are full of questions from the book so study the vocab and you're set for an A. Awesome! Take him.
Seems like a good guy and he's very fair. Attendance isn't needed and not mandatory. Just read the book and go over the study guide and you'll be fine. Knows the subject matter but he's pretty dull.
Easy class. Hands out study guide before the test and asks questions from the study guide. He's a nice guy and really wants you to get a good grade. 3 tests, drop the lowest, and a 10 page annotated bibliography. Lectures put you right to sleep though.
great guy.
Dr.Gay is great! Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you show up to class, get the handouts, and copy the overhead notes, you'll do great(Defiitions are very important). He goes over what's going to be on the tests, and there's a paper to write towards the end of the semester. He makes it as easy as he can while keeping it fun and laid back.
Very straightforward. It's a statistic class, what you're expecting is what you'll get. He has the tendency to go off on tangents a lot and it can get tiring to keep up with him, but if you can read the book you can pass the class.
He talks a lot of non-sense. the book is pretty useless except for a couple of things you might need. HE gives study guides for the essay parts, he'll give you like 9 questions and choose 3 or 4 for the exam. For the research paper he doesn't explain what he wants. You have to ask him a lot of questions and don't always get the answer for them.
He is an easy Prof. to listen to in class, gives hand-outs over key topics but tests lean on the book. Read the book and turn in a decent term paper for an A, guaranteed, go to class if you want to hear hillarious tangents, discuss the material or want to hear a little guitar-pickin'.
He will give you all the notes you need. I didn't buy the textbook and was able to get a B in the class from studying the handouts. He will give a list of possible essay questions before your exams and then put 5 of those on your test. He does go off on tangents, following along in class is difficult. Had a 7pg research paper along with 4 tests.
I LOVE Dr. GAY! I took his introduction to sociology class over Summer B, he is such a sweet old man. Read the book, make vocab cards, and study the sociological perspectives, you WILL have an A. Oh, and owning a flannel may not hurt since he wears them EVERY DAY with the sleeves rolled up. Just a down to earth texas man who really loves sociology!
easy class-to the extent where i didnt attend some of his lectures and still did just as well as attending. This doesnt mean it didnt require any effort though. make sure you study /HIS/ notes. whatever he covers in his notes, go over in the book (helps a ton). He's funny!mumbles too,but its ok b/c you just need to pay attention to his pptnotes
This was my second time taking Dr. Gay. I am not a math person at all, but his method of teaching was extremely clear and easy to follow. He is very passionate and knowledgeable in his field and actually makes the class somewhat interested, which is tough. He is also very flexible and helpful with his students.
He is a really cool guy. He mumbles a lot so you have to pay attention or at least sit close, but he knows what he is teching. He gets off track sometimes, but the stories he tells are pretty funny. I would definitely recommend him. His SYP 4000 class consists of 3 tests and one paper with annotated bibliographies.
Great professor, really knows what he is teaching and is fun to listen to. go to class and read the book.
This teacher was very unhelpful/uncaring. Did research paper over 10 pages long, minimum being 7. Did not get good grade, him finding many faults. He wouldn't discuss anything. His tests were also very difficult and not easy to find the answers. I would not take him and just can't figure out why he is teaching if he obviously does not like kids.
This teacher does not care about his students and so unhelpful. Did research paper over 10 pages, and he was still not satisfied. His tests are very difficult and not easy to find answers. Not sure why he is teaching if he obviously does not like kids.
Dr Gay is a good professor who is very straight forward and is passionate about sociology. His tests are almost entirely from the power points so attending class or atleast getting the notes from someone who does it necessary! Minimul studying is required to do well and all his tests are asked in 50 multiple choice questions.
Really liked him as a teacher, test are taken straight from notes so don't waist your time reading the book, just go to class.
I took him as a summer course..he's really nice and likes to engage students, i learned alot from the book! Class isn't mandatory, as long as you get the powerpoint notes from a friend and read the chapters then you'll be fine! TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT AN EASY A OR WANT TO LEARN ABOUT OUR SOCIETYYY!!!
Dr. Gay is the best Sociology prof at UCF. Cares about students, straight forward, awesome.
He is a great professor. If you are taking this course, make sure you are enroll in his class. He is a very down to earth person and made the material interesting to learn and retainable. His tests are based on his powerpoints so the class really isn't that hard.
This man is the coolest. Honestly when he walked in the first class i knew he was going to be awesome. Attendance is not mandatory. But he hands out slides in the class.(He carries extra if you miss a day) His test were moderately easy if you studied a bit. One big paper but it's not too bad. Overall he was a great teacher.
He is awesome! This was a hard class but he really cares about students learning the material so he tries his best to be thorough explaining. Four assignments that equal a test grade and four exams. Exams were multiple choice and minor calculations, kinda tricky but only because the content is challenging not the professor. Absolutely recommend!
This guy is a hard old grumpy ass, course was hard and i manage to pass thanks to my own prior knowledge and not the professors. My own learning abilities helped and the TA was useless of course. He is better then christina Olsen I will say that but avoid both of them if you can.
This class was extremely hard but I don't think it was the teacher I think it was the subject matter. Dr. Gay is awsome and trys his best to make sure everyone understands. He's very open and very willing to help out until you get it. Your grade in this class consists of 4 tests and 4 homeworks. Best of luck and he's not a hard old grumpy ass lol
His class is easy but there isn't a point in attending. I found that his lectures weren't helpful and instead stopped going and read the book. The only reason to go is for handouts and the study guide but if you miss that day, ask him for it he'll give it to you. There's 4 tests with an essay portion, an annotated bio and a 6 page paper.
Dr.Gay is an incredible instructor who seems to take great interest in seeing his students succeed. Course consists of 4 Exams and 4 Homework Assignments which count as a fifth test grade. He is funny/knows the material very well. It was a pleasure taking his class and I would recommend him to anyone needing Social Stats for graduation!
Dr. Gay is a good guy! His class is mostly of about 4 tests and homework that he lets you redo if you don't get full credit. He doesn't help much but his TA does. It's an easy class but his final is pretty difficult. I would say that a B is easy to achieve but read extra if you want to strive for an A
Dr. Gay is more than willing to help if you ask! He is very understanding esp regarding turning in work. The material itself is slightly difficult(especially if you're not mathematically inclined) however he does his best to make sure you understand. I barely used the book as I found his in class examples more helpful. I would take him again!
Tough grader when it comes to the research paper. Be sure to be thorough on that. He rambles a lot and goes off in tangents which is amusing and annoying at the same time- haha. Lectures were long and boring in general. Even though he usually gives a guide for assignments I still found his instructions confusing.
Dr. Gay is warmhearted and truly cares about the material. He even took the time to remember every student by name; I can't remember the last time a professor has done that. He ties the material in with life experience/examples so info is easy to recall on exam. Exams were comprised of multiple choice + 4 written responses pertaining to ch concepts
Took this over summer B 2016. Bought the textbook but did not need it because his powerpoint were so good. He really knows his stuff and cares about his students if you get to know him. Got out of there with an A. Tests were easy if you studied the powerpoint. Great guy really funny.
Dr. Gay is a really genuine person who has clear PowerPoints and often relates things back real life examples, making it easy to remember. His class was my first experience with college lectures and he made it an easy transition. He also has a band that he is very proud of and he lights up when people ask about it.
This class is easy as long as you read the chapters. The test questions are exactly the same as the definitions from the textbook. Highly recommend.
Interesting subject. Dr. Gay speaks about the material in a clear and elevated way while being laid-back and humorous. Also, patient with students and available to students outside of class.
