Professor Gethings was my answer to American Government. Never had much of an interest, but he takes the historical route and ties it to the present. Show up to class, listen to the lectures which are interesting and utilize the Power Points. Follow this and you can not go wrong. Oh, there is a weekly quiz, use the book and you will be fine.
honestly this was the best professor I've ever had. He wants everyone to pass and will do whatever it takes to make sure everyone receives a good grade. i loved coming to class because he believed in what he was teaching. BEST PROFESSOR! i would take him again if i could!!!
Four tests no final for american government. Sometimes takes attendance at the end of class 10 percent of grade. Study his slides that he puts online and you'll do well on the test. He makes jokes that no one understands unless you're into government.
Really strives to be sure every student understands. If you participate, his class is great. He makes jokes daily to be sure students are having a good time even though we may not always understand the joke. gives extra credit. 4 tests, 2 papers, all easy if you study the power points. no final or midterm.
I took Gethings in the Spring of 2015 for POLS 1101 and loved him. He's a great, straightforward guy who is more interested in making sure you're an informed voter than giving you a grade. He assigns a couple papers, but his class is a straight lecture with some leeway for class discussion on current issues. I wish I could take him again.
Gethings is the best professor EVER. He's VERY clear, funny, and very interested in making sure everyone is an informed citizen. Participation and showing up to class DOES matter! He takes attendance for a daily grade and asks questions in class that do count towards your participation grade. But as long as you read the powerpoints you WILL pass!
Porfessor Gething is the best teacher I've had so far. He might give extra credit 2-3 page papers on very interesting topics & might allow other topics if you speak with him in advance. There are 4 tests & 2 papers scheduled. Study his powerpoints, read the book, study weekly quizzes, do practice tests & you will make an A. Take this professor.
Very helpful and wants you to learn the basics f our government. If you need and help or advice he is always responsive and great with feedback. i emailed him my papers to read over and got the feedback as if he was grading it to be able to fix it and the response was within 2 hours if not quicker. Gives extra credit assignments and on the final.
Favorite Professor! Truly passionate about what he does and wants his students to learn. Great personality and always willing to help. Four tests, 2 papers( easy) and gives extra credit at the end of the semester. Don't buy the book! Read the power points and you will do well
Great professor! Very knowledgeable. Make sure you do all the required readings because the class is based on discussions from the readings. Take good notes as they will be needed for the Midterm and Final (both count 15% of your grade). Statecraft simulation was 32% plus 2 papers based on the simulation at 10% each. Attendance mandatory!! (18%)
He's a great professor. The tests are 80% from the PowerPoint and 20% from the lectures meaning you'll get a B just by studying the slides.
He is a very fair grader and keeps in mind that some people are better test takers and some people are better writers. Gives weekly online open book quizzes that are super easy. Tests were hard for me but gave other assignments that balanced them out. Really nice guy and a pretty good professor.
He was a great professor, his lectures cover all the content you need to know although sometimes he gets carried away. There are online quizzes every week but they are extemely easy. Solid choice for a professor.
good dude, tests are really hard though. gives weekly quizzes and 3 papers to write.
I took professor Gething's hybrid class and really enjoyed it. His lectures are good, and you have a lot of assignments so your grade does not really suffer much if you accidentally miss one. Weekly quizzes and discussion posts. 3 tests that are fairly difficult so you will need to study. He is pretty sarcastic which made his lectures fun.
Professor Gethings is a solid professor for Global Issues. Though the lectures can be kind of bland, the class overall is pretty easy. Attendance is taken as a grade so be sure to show up. There are weekly quizzes which are easy overall if you do the readings. Overall an easy A. Gives extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester.
Professor Gethings is a really nice guy and cares about his students. Tests were hard, highest grade I made was an 86, but he assigned 3 easy essays that helped my grade. He also gave 2 extra credit assignments. The only thing that I didn't like about his class was his political bias. Very liberal and it is obvious in his lectures.
Prof. Gethings was great! Test are clearly based on the PowerPoints (he puts them online) & his lectures make them very easy to remember and understand. His quizzes come from the book (get the online version & ctrl/F). Gives extra credit on the tests, gives 3 EC super easy assignments during the semester. Very discussion based class.
Gethings was a cool professor. No problems within this course. Come to class and listen to his lectures (which are interesting and funny). Take quizzes with the text book. Easy A.
Really nice guy, easy class. We do a lot of papers but he is a super lenient grader. Some dont take him seriously which is a shame because he is so nice.
Gethings is a great professor and generally cares about us doing well in his class. Lectures were interesting and tests were mainly based from the power points. If you have the chance to take him don't miss the opportunity!
He knows his stuff when it comes to politics. Very left-leaning, but respects other views and won't shame you for them. His sarcasm/humor is awesome and adds to the class. I enjoyed coming and being challenged to think about views differently. Need Travels with Harley for 3 (easy) papers, don't need textbook (use google for quizzes), 3 exams.
Gethings is a cool dude. Super laid back, great on extra credit. Tests are straight forward, go to class and participate and it's an easy A.
Cool dude. Really gets into what he teaches. He can be opinionated, but that to me just makes it even more entertaining and interesting. Uses TOPHAT program for attendance and participation in class. Attendance is 25% of grade.
He's great, honestly. He really cares about his students and he's passionate about what he teaches. Uses tophat for attendance and participation and he activated the location to made sure you couldn't access tophat if you weren't in lecture. Weekly quizzes, you can just use google no need to get the textbook. He's super chill, definitely take him.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Funny guy and great lectures. I only wish he taught more upper-level POLS classes.
Really easy. Tests are not hard at all, just review the power points before the test and plenty of quizlets online. Participation matters because he uses top hat and this is a chunk of your grade. Take his class for an easy A, but also for the context that he provides.
Took this class as a hybrid and it was my easiest class! Tests are slightly difficult. I studied and the highest test grade I got was a B but he gives extra credit and a couple short papers that are easy grade-boosters. Just pay attention to his lectures and you'll be fine. Attendance is worth 5% of your final grade.
Professor Gethings is a great guy and is willing to work with you if you need it. Discussion and quiz due every Sunday but you can use the articles for the quizzes. Tests are hard and he does not really narrow down what you need to study, so you are studying 5-7 powerpoint for each test. You will get out what you put into the class.
Professor Gethings is a really good teacher to take political science from. There were weekly quizzes of 10 questions from the reading and a discussion post along with two comments on others' posts almost every weekend, but they weren't that bad. There were 3 tests but if you look at the powerpoints they are pretty easy to do and extra credit too.
I took his class for Intro to Global Issues. All of the test will just be answers from his powerpoint lectures so if you make flashcards to study from you're guaranteed an A. He gave two extra credit assignments for extra points on tests and he likes responses from his questions in class. Weekly quizzes and discussions online which are open note.
Took his Global Studies class. If you show up, participate and study his power points you will pass. He offers extra credit a couple of times in the semester. It was an easy A for a Political Science class.
He is a nice guy but he is very biased about the sensitive topics. Students clearly know what his opinion is on certain issues. He really is passionate about the subject & does want his students to do well. His tests are fair, he posts his Powerpoints online, and takes attendance through Tophat. He gives extra credit and gives you a while to do it.
I was so happy I took his class. He cares about his students and gives extra credit with lots of time to do it. There are 3 tests, the last one is the final exam and there is one quiz due every Monday and a discussion post also due. The tests weren't hard but you had to remember the notes from the powerpoints (on D2L) which sometimes I couldn't.
Amazing teacher. Great sense of humor and always answers emails. I took online and all the work consisted of weekly reading with small quizzes and sometimes an essay. Clear rubrics are given for the essays, if you fail its because you werent doing the reading. Loved this class.
First online class and I loved it! It's an online class and you use Revel to do all your homework which includes quizzes and essays. Most of the answers are on quizlet and some are just common sense. Clear rubrics for essays. If you take this class and don't make an A you're just really lazy and probably didn't deserve an A anyways.
The online class is easy as long as you keep up with the weekly assignments. Pretty straightforward and David posts weekly to update us on politics and assignments due. There is no reason why anybody should fail this class, just do the work. Excellent choice.
Literally so easy he has podcast to listen to every week that he makes in real time to help you out with the weekly assignments! I took It online, so every week there was a chapter due and every two weeks was a 750 word paper due! As long as you do the work youll pass most of its on quizlet so TAKE HIM YOU WONT REGRET IT
Gething's online POLS1101 course was 100% self-taught. The textbook is a program called Revel in which all of your work is done: reading, quizzes, tests, essays, EVERYTHING. His contribution to the course is a once-weekly "podcast" (15 min of current event updates and a heads-up on that week's material). He's nice, but he didn't teach.
I took this class online and the work was done through a program called Revel so he didn't actually do much teaching but he is still obviously very passionate about the subject and posts weekly podcast which go over the topics you'll be reading about on Revel. Overall, it isn't a difficult class.
Prof. Gethings is the most caring professor I've had at Kennesaw. You have an easy essay to write every 2 weeks but that and a few quizzes each week is the only thing you do the entire class. He posts podcasts each week that aren't long but helpful to the unit you're learning. At the end of the semester, I had an 88, and he bumped me to an A.
this class is solely based off of the book with in quizzes after each chapter. (quilt can be your friend in this class) there are 750 word essays every other week but they are straight forward and all common sense. NO EXAMS!! he also rounded my grade up.
BEST PROFESSOR IVE HAD SO FAR!!!! He really does care about what he teaches and does his best to help us understand concepts. Due to Covid he was easy on us and homework was a big portion of the grades. He cares about everyone's opinions regardless of their political views. He is the most unbiased teacher when it comes to politics! DEF TAKE HIMMMM!
He is the best!!!! super understanding
Prof Gethings is very nice and funny during class! He has a great attitude & is really passionate abt what he teaches. I was in his hybrid class so I did hw at home & went to class once a week. The hw was v easy! you have to "read" a chapter a week and take a few quizzes after each section w/i the chapter. Quizlet will be your best friend! Easy A!
Professor Gethings' class is a breeze if you show up to class. He grades largely on attendance and the weekly assignments on Revel, which are super easy. He's knowledgeable on his subject and tries to engage the class, but he also understands the mentality of students taking gen-ed classes.
Best Professor ever!!
there are no tests in this class. its all online work on revel. easy A if you attend class and do the work. professor gethings is very knowledgeably about american government. he asks you to find things to talk about that are going on in america very class so come prepared or he may give you a pop quiz
I loved Dr Gethings's class! He is very knowledgeable about politics and has a non-biased atmosphere. He is also very caring about his students and is willing to work with you if you need it. Definitely recommend!
Prof Gethings is amazing! He is really into what he teaches and his lectures aren't dry and boring. No tests or final, just weekly Revel assignments which are easy. Attendance is mandatory but you have two freebie days. You do a three minute essay in class for your attendance grade. Overall great professor, you'll pass easily
I liked Prof Gethings! His lectures were pretty funny and actually really helpful. I love that you can tell how passionate he is about what he's teaching, and I especially loved that he encouraged his students to get involved and take action. Each week we had Revel assignments, a current event post, and a response to his lecture. Not bad at all!
I loved him. His class was so easy and was informational. You could tell he cared a lot about his students and communicated well. I would take this class 100 times if i could. Easy A
I liked this class. Great professor! He is very good about getting back if you have questions and the assignments are very straightforward. There were multiple extra credit opportunities.
Professor Gethings is one of my favorite professors. He is evidently passionate about the course material and just wants his students to gain some knowledge from the class. I took the online class so there were weekly webcasts to watch with easy quizzes, weekly current event posts, and a weekly case study/discussion. Sad to be leaving this class!
100% take this professor. He genuinely cares about what he teaches and how he teaches it. If you have any questions or simply just want to further discuss certain topics, he is always available to talk and has a flexible schedule. He is objective, understanding, and does not try to push any certain agenda. That being said, communism will win!
He is an amazing teacher with great lectures however there is a lot of busy work! He is such a clear speaker though and his class was fairly easy as long as you do the work!
Easy A for an online course. We have weekly assignments due that are pretty easy to complete. He's not a difficult grader, but can easily tell if you put no effort in it lol. You can definitely tell he's very caring & understanding and will work with you when needed. He's also very passionate about teaching. 10/10 STRONGLY recommend him.
I read the reviews and thought wow this should workout well I have a travel heavy fall semester and need a course with not very many papers. My guys, he wanted 13 - 2 page papers, plus quizzes and discussion post weekly on top of that. He wanted all of it plus you have podcast he test you on and a $70 required text book.
Yes, there is a lot of homework in the online course, but it was all very manageable if you take the time to sit down and do it. The HW is easy and really doesn't take long though it may seem like a lot. I enjoyed the class and you can see his passion (and he's funny). Not hard at all, fun class, and extra cred. No late work so turn stuff in OT.
Great professor! Super understanding and light workload.
Take his in person class. His online class requires way more pointless work including a 500 word reflection to his 15 slide powerpoints and a 250 word current events discussion post along with the revel work. His in person class is just attendance and revel. His online class isn't that bad but I would suggest taking him in person.
No tests, quizzes or papers. Grade is on an attendance formative. Weekly assignments which are easy just a lot of reading. Hilarious. Very engaging and WANTS you to learn.
Prof. Gethings is extremely laid back and understanding. His lectures are tolerable and he's a funny guy. There's weekly assignments in REVEL but it's nothing difficult. You do get an attendance grade through questions on formative, but it doesn't impact your grade extremely if you miss a couple of classes.
I took him online and we had weekly reflections and discussion post due every Week and revel assignments which were easy to do. His lecture were very informative and overall good professor. He assigns extra credit and allows you to sumbit late assignments if you have a valid reason.
This is the easiest A one could get as long as you attend class... He separates the grade into 3 different sections: the homework (takes up the majority of the grade), participation, and a final online quiz. I got nearly 100s on the homeworks and final quiz but didn't go to half of his classes and got a B. GOING TO THESE CLASSES MATTER DO NOT SKIP!
I feel like professor Gethings was a good professor, he was funny and tried to be as unbiased as possible. However, the weekly homework was just too much! The homework is kinda like a packet and the typical week of homework has 6 quizzes, a short response, and 2 video quizzes. If you turn it in late you lose 50 points on every assignment.
Professor Gethings' class is an easy A as long as you attend the lectures; the Revel homework isn't too bad either. Simply go to class and you will do very well in his class.
take him, take him, take him. No tests or quizzes you just have weekly homework which is easy. He cares about the class and students. If you put in the work you will get the grade you want. Attendance does matter because he checks but just show up and you will be just fine.
Prof is genuinely a good dude. D2L content was a bit all over the place so be sure to go through every single folder and write down when things are due. FOLLOW the RUBRIC to a T, he reads the discussion posts and 500 word weekly journal submissions and will grade accordingly. The Cengage thing he uses is a bit tedious but the final is super easy.
Truly one of the BEST professors at ksu. Makes it easy for all students by giving light work load. No test or quizzes, all material on REVEL. TAKE HIM!!!!
Very simple class and not much of a heavy workload. He posts lectures that are at most 15 minutes long and has weekly 250 word current news discussions. Also a 450 word reflection on what the lecture was of that week, which he tries helping out by asking questions that you can answer in your reflection. Also uses Pearson as another side assignment.
Lots of reading(do not have to actually read) but you are graded on very few things. A current event discussion post, 500 word reflection on lectures, and reading and quiz grade every week. You get an 100 on the current event and reflection if you follow directions. No tests except the final. Pretty easy.
He has a very straightforward class that doesn't have any nonsense about it. You have weekly assignments, discussions, and reflections, and that's it. He's very accessible if you have any questions and is a pretty funny guy. I have no complaints and I personally think his online classes are what online classes should be.
Best online teacher ever. Has interesting lectures about stuff that isn't boring. A week goes as follows: spend about an hour watching his weekly lectures, take notes, and submit them. Then look up any random news even that happened that week and summarize it. Finally spend about an hour on REVEL, simple readings, and quizzes. Very easy.
He's a good dude and professor, but don't take this class unless you're willing to do the work. He also takes quite a bit to grade assignments despite requiring them weekly. He requires a 500-word reflection on the webcast every week, along with a 250-word current event post and reply, and reading assignments. Easy A if you can be committed.
For this course, you are required to complete revel assignments, 500-word minimum webcast reflections, 250-word current event reflections as well as respond to a peer's current event. Professor Gethings follows his rubric and has clear grading criteria. He does offer extra credit opportunities. I highly recommend taking Professor Gethings.
Thought his lectures were great, he is a funny guy. Workload wasn't too much, would definitely recommend him.
This class was pretty easy. Do all the work he assigns then you will pass with an A. Simple.
If you can put aside 2 hours a week for his class you'll be fine. Just do the work, most of it is just competition and effort. If you take this online, all the answers to the revel assignments are on Quizlet. Honestly, if you don't get an A in this class I don't know how you'll survive the rest of college.
Professor Gethings has been great so far. He has great lectures. There is quite a bit of homework but it is pretty simple and nothing compared to his online class. If you take him definitely do it in person.
He was an excellent professor, always reachable via email in case of missed classes due to accidents or important commitments. His explanations were clear, and he used the Revel platform for assignments. He excelled at leading engaging discussions, making the class lively.
Prof Gethings is the goat. Def one of my fav professors I've had. It made me wanna change my major to pol sci.
Professor Gethings is an amazing professor! He cares about his students, and he doesn't make the class hard. All you have to do is show up, and take the quizzes in the online textbook. Final was a piece of cake.
i LOVE prof Gethings. He wants his students to be educated and politically active! Only assignments are quizzes in the textbook which are EASY. Attendance is mandatory but you get 2 passes. He really cares about his students and wants discussions on whats been going on in the news. He is ridiculously nice and passionate about what he does. TAKE HIM
Prof. Gethings is the kind of professor you want. He's pretty chill, laid-back, and humorous even. He still gave me participation credit when I was absent for a while due to being sick. He provides extra credit. He's down-to-earth and likes to discuss current issues/events in his lectures and encourages our input in these discussions.
Gethings is so cool and laid back. Textbook required b/c its linked to the homework, but other than that everything is on quizlet and even the free responses are so easy. Attendance is taken online so beware; asks about current issues at the start of every class to engage students. Def would take again no tests no final no papers
I thoroughly enjoyed Professor Gethings class, his lectures are so incredibly entertaining. Almost all the work is on revel, through the textbook. Attendance is graded and is mandatory. I genuinely do feel that I obtained a lot of helpful knowledge from this class, because Professor Gethings makes the information fun to learn.
I loved this class, I hate history but Prof. Gethings made learning about history enjoyable. Assignments are based on attendance, Revel assignments, and the GA state government test (super easy). My favorite part about the class is when he takes 5-15 minutes talking about whats going on in the world today. Overall amazing professor.
Professor Gethings is a very passionate professor. Always encourages students to participate in discussions and provides opportunities for students to improve scores. Downside is that he spends too much time going over the news. 3 Exams, 1 State Quiz, and 1 additional assignment. Study for tests and an A is attainable
Professor Gethings is GREAT! I would highly recommend taking his class. His grading criteria is very clear. Just go to class because attendance part of your grade and keep up with the weekly assignments and you will do great in his class. Definitely take him!
Really funny guy and his class was super easy. All of the work in online and there is no final exam just a quiz which was also easy. He responds to emails quickly and he gives 3 extra credit assignments which took little to no effort. You would have to never open your computer to not pass his class.
He's a funny dude who makes the lecture semi-enjoyable for being a government class. Expect revel assignments every week, but they're super easy. Recommend a lot of the online classes, because there are no real quizzes/tests. Only the state government exam, which is done on D2L.
all grades come from online textbook "quizzes" and attendance. attendance is recorded by answering a question on an online platform. don't be late on the textbook work as it goes to half credit after the due date. otherwise very easy class, no problems with SDS.
Great professor, made class super enjoyable. I had him for an 8 am and I went every single time. I was not sure how to work the reveal assignments so that was on me. If you are even a minute late on the reval assignments you imminently get half credit. Just keep up with your work and go to class!
The course has now changed, it used to be reveal assignments but now they're Norton which is way more difficult. The course used to be a points-based class but now it's 40% of your grade from Norton and there are no answers online. The textbook rarely has the answers as well.
Do not take this class online. While most of these reviews are for his in-person class, the online course is a different beast altogether. You will have to write 500 word summaries each week for the online lectures. This combined with the Norton assignments, usually about 10 quizzes based off textbook every week makes for a pretty decent workload.
Professor Gethings was really cool! His lectures were very funny and enjoyable and he made the content easy to learn and understand. The workload may be a bit heavier compared to other classes, but I still found it pretty easy as long as you pay attention. Totally recommend taking him if you want a relaxed government class.
The GOAT! Weekly textbook assignments, discussion posts about current events, and papers, but no quizzes or tests. Very resourceful, lovable professor. Definitely take him!
Very good professor, truly cares about what he is teaching and does a great job sharing his knowledge on topics. Work is mostly online but in class lectures are interesting and helpful.
Such a good teacher. I'd say if you want to actually learn something, take him. his assignments are online, and there are no class tests or quizzes other than on Revel after you've done the readings. He's a very nice and understanding teacher.
This professor is very inclusive and fun to listen to. He teaches very well and also sets clear due dates. Fun environment. Only thing to be aware of (For students who skip class) is that professor Gethings often assigns work that can only be completed once opened in class and is closed in a very short time period.
By far my favorite professor! This was my favorite college class and it's all thanks to Professor Gethings. Assignments and tests and done on Revel but they aren't overwhelming assignments. He sets very clear due dates. His lectures were very informative and entertaining. You can tell he is really passionate about what he teaches.
Professor Gethings brings humor and clarity to this government course. The workload is manageable with weekly assignments and no tests. unstuck study is helpful for staying on top of the material.
Literally such a breeze. Take this professor, he's passionate about what he teachers and heavily prompts people to think for themselves. Took it online, but the lectures still feel as if he's in front of you. Its just some easy textbook quizzes and videos, a weekly discussion post, and a weekly reflection.
AMAZING teacher. I took his course online, but his lecture videos made it feel like I knew him personally. The videos are so much better than boring slideshows. Wants us to form our own opinions in politics and great class discussions. Same schedule every week for workload. As long as you do the work easy A. Love him!
Take him, very chill and laid back class, great lectures. Have to write a paper, discussion post, and textbook questions every week.
Great professor. The class is mostly self-paced on Pearson Revel with readings, quizzes, and tests due each week. He follows the syllabus, takes attendance through Formative, and keeps lectures light and easy to follow. He's understanding, approachable, and makes an 8 AM class manageable.
SO EASY. Take this class. It's all on pearson revel so no in person tests or anything like that. Also offers some extra credit if you need it. But attendance is mandatory
He is merciful and very understanding. He does attendance at the end of class, but it's made in a way where you have to be there to hear the question to be able to answer it. I had an 8am with him, he has a funny and non-censored way of speaking which makes the class interesting to be i early in the morning. All the work is on Pearson.
He is a very kind teacher, and makes it easy to receive an A if you put in some effort (textbook quizzes and class formatives). Doesnt require much memorizing which I love, just makes politics and history interesting. I love how he includes current day problems and news.
Amazing professor would 100% take again if he taught any other classes, work is on Pearson gives up two weeks in advance to complete and no final. He takes attendance through formative.
