I had the pleasure of him guest lecturing in both my Microbiology and Physiology classes. I actually had McKay for Micro, and I will tell you that she is a whole lot more difficult than he is. Both teachers are great though, and both know their stuff. P.S. He is hot.

At first I thought micro was the dumbest class on the planet, but then it got real interesting. Gibbs is a really good teacher. He is so enthusiastic about the material and he has a great deal of knowldege of it! His tests kick my butt, even though I study forever. If you study his lecture notes and remember his drawings, you'll do fine in that class.

Professor Gibbs is an awesome teacher. He loves what he teachs and it shows. He is laid back and easy going. He has an odd sense of humor, but the makes the class very fun. He does drawings for everything. I would recommend the lecture notes. Those notes and the drawing are all you need to pass. I would highly recommend this teacher!!

Great class. Mr. Gibbs included interesting information not included in the textbook that brought clarity to the subject. He is so much more knowledgeable than this basic microbiology class. Highly recommend.

Makes class interesting. Corny jokes but he is still entertaining, i took a lot away from this class. If you pay attention you will pass no doubt son!

Very good teacher. Sometimes goes off on another topic, but keeps class interesting. He get's really excited about dissections. Extremely helpful if you ask for help. I got very good grades on the exams (he curves) and I'm not very good at bio. Sometimes slow at returning grades for exams. Don't be afraid to take him. He's good.

great teacher, he doesnt do essays on his tests anymore, or at least he didnt this semester. His class is very easy, he gives plenty of opportunitys for extra points. No hw, and doesnt care if you cant make it to class everyday, he also will let u go to one of his other session if u cant make it during yours. AWESOME TEACHER TAKE HIM!

Enjoyed his humor. He was flirty and made things interesting, but unlike other posts I thought his tests were not always consistant with the notes he provides. I ended up buying the book, half way through the course (he suggests you not to on the first day) and studied like mad. I think had I not done that, I may have never passed. Buy the book-

Super easy. Lots of extra credit. Spends more time with the girls but will help a dude out when requested.

Mr. Gibbs is the man, he's so funny which makes this class fun and interesting! And to answer everyone's question: This class is tough. Study hard and you won't be disappointed.

Mr. Gibbs is awesome!! He knows his stuff!! My suggestion if you take him...memorize anything he draws on the board! Those will be his essay questions on every test!! If he draws something than its important. Take Mr. Gibbs, you will not be sorry!!

Mr. Gibbs teaches very well, and he made microbiology even more interesting than it would have been on its own. He knows what he is talking about and he is funny. I did not use the text book at all; I only used his note taker and any handouts he.. handed out. I learned a lot in his class, and I am glad I took Mr. Gibbs!

I took mr Gibbs for the fall 2011 semester. He was awesome!!! I suck at most science but he's so knowledgable and helpful!! He was the best I've had ever honestly because the way he teaches it seems to really stick with you! If u need micro and you want to enjoy learning, you can't afford to take another teacher point blank. :)

Mr. Gibbs is an extremely HARD teacher. He does make learning fun but his tests are really difficult. Make sure to study hard and draw his pictures in your notes if you want to pass. Probably one of the HARDEST teachers I have ever had!

Great teacher! If you pay attention, he explains the notes well. Very down to earth and understanding, but sorta awkward in a good way. Loves what he does. Get the book if you want a B or A, but not totally necessary. Tests aren't as difficult as expected. Lab notebook. Class attendance is a must. Made me interested in bio. STUDY. I reccommend.

He is a great teacher. He keeps the class interesting and is funny. He is very helpful if you have any questions. I loved his whiteboard drawings! I plan on taking him for micro bio. He posts his lecture slides on blackboard. I recommend printing them out and studying them. Don't buy the book!!! Just study the slides.

Great professor! Funny, keeps class interesting. Make sure to draw his pictures during lectures! Tests are fairly easy and essays are always the pictures he draws in class. Personally, didn't really use the book, mostly studied his lectures. He also curves the tests. Pretty fun easy and interesting class.

Mr. Gibbs is an impressive teacher. His lectures are not only educational, but interesting as well. You do not need to purchase the book, as long as you purchase his notetaker which has all the material he covers. It's also helpful to record the lectures. If you must take Micro I would definately recommend taking it with him.

Mr. Gibbs is awesome! He explains everything very well, he's willing to answer any questions you have and will help you to understand it 100% You don't really need the textbook but it can be helpful when studying! :)

A bit unorganized, but a really nice teacher who makes class interesting with his pictures and drawing. Teaches you exactly what is on your exams and essay portion of exams. Be sure to draw his drawings and pay attention to what portion will be used for essays. Hard class in general, no need for textbook, he has you buy his lecture book.

Mr Gibbs is a great teacher. His lecture style is unique. A lot of drawings but he explains them which is helpful. He keeps class entertaining. I got a B but its very possible to get an A. His exams are lengthy 75 question mc but has essay/drawings he wants also. Very passionate about bio & makes class fun. Bio 201 w/gibbs was my favorite class

Great teacher! Funny but clear. His lecture and drawings are great. The notebook he has you buy is great, just bring it and take notes on it. One of the best teachers I've had. He took a topic I had no interest in and made it very interesting.

Mr. Gibbs is amazing. He absolutely loves the subject, and is always willing to help. His drawings are important, so make sure to copy those! He makes learning fun, and his sense of humor makes long classes interesting. I recommend him 100% !!!

Great teacher! I took Mr. Gibbs for BIO 221 and 201. Lecture is always fun and informative. Mr. Gibbs will always let you know exactly whats going to be on his tests, no surprises. All you need to do is study. He is always MORE than happy to answer questions or go over a topic again if you don't understand. Would highly recommend this professor

Gibbs is one rare professor anyone would be lucky to be instructed by. I took him over the course of winter (6 weeks), and have never thought about switching my major until this class. A genuinely awesome person who is passionate and ready to teach and explain anything you want to know about Micro. Highly recommend him for both Micro & honors bio.

Nice and considerate - only thing is that his slides are vague to study from. Always got out way early. Ask him anything and he'll gladly go into it in detail. The best thing is that he teaches in a way to practically prepare you for further lab work. He makes it relevant to real research. Study on YouTube

Draw all his pictures that he draws... These are essential for his essays on tests. Gives essay choices b4 hand and then picks an unknown for part of the test. Study his lecture notes and u should be good.. I used the book for reinforcement but it's not required. The lab is not a big deal in this class.. No lab test. Study study! He is reasonable.

Tests r ez and straight forward if u study. If u r planning on transferring to a 4 yr and need micro, take whim bcuz I can almost guarantee it will be harder elsewhere. Gives tons of E.C even if he says he doesnt in his syllabus. Took in 6 wks and was completely doable. I usually hate lab but labs were fun-ish and went by quickly. book not needed.

This class was neither easy or hard. It's just a matter of reading his notes and coming to his lectures that would land you that A. He also lets you know what are the essay questions that are going to be on the exam. Just read, read, read the notes! That's it. And oh, labs are fun too.

Took this class over summer and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Gibbs teaching style was a breath of fresh air after taking Chem last semester. Very fast paced (Which is to be expected for summer) and lots of studying if you want to earn a good grade. Attending class is a MUST! Didn't use textbook. Gives considerable amount of extra credit. Fun labs.

David Gibbs is by far one of the best bio instructors at VVC. He interacts very well with his students and truly made micro a fascinating subject to learn. Even though there is a lot to memorize and take in, the overall aura of the class is very low-stress and comfortable. I learned an enormous amount of material and had fun doing it.

Mr. Gibbs is my favorite professor at VVC. He taught micro in a way where everyone could understand it. I want to say it was easy, but it wasn't. I studied for that A but it is achievable! I struggled in physio but shined in micro. Oh and I would not recommend taking the two together. I think I could have done better in physio if I took it alone.

Great teacher! I learned so much, all while he professionally lectured, making us laugh at times. He's smart and fun and VVC is lucky to have him. He knows his stuff!

He was honestly the best science teacher I have ever take at VVC. He gives extra credit and lets you know what exactly is gonna be on the exam. If you study, the exams are not too hard. You don't need the book, you only need the notes. He is a hilarious teacher and he cares about his students. I enjoyed being in his class.

Gibbs is such an amazing professor. I really enjoyed his class. You don't need the book, just the outline of the notes. He always did a review the class before the test and basically tells you everything that will be on the test. The test can be tough if you don't study, but if you study it will be a piece of cake they're super easy.

Definitely doable if you are considering taking this class over summer. This class isn't really comparable to anatomy and phys.... its way easier. But don't let the comments fool you. You definitely need to put the time in if you want an A. He's an awesome teacher and very funny. This was one of the only classes at VVC that i actually enjoy.

Gibbs is a very good professor! I really enjoyed his class. It could be a really easy class if you put effort into it. I was a little nervous because there are essay question on his test; but the class before the test he does a review and the is basically what is on the test so you know where to study from.

Mr. Gibbs is a great teacher he knows that school is hard enough and doesn't make you do un-necessary projects. His test can be hard if you don't study. But he reviews with you the class before the test. Would take again! 100%

Gibbs is fantastic! My favorite professor so far. He is very relatable. He takes empathy on his students as he knows what it's like to be in our seat and is sympathetic to the students who come in exhausted after working all day prior to class. His labs are fun! He does great review the class before exams. Miss lecture though and you miss a lot!

OMG, Professor Gibbs is the best Science professor at Victor Valley College. Class was very interesting, informational and fun. He is NOT at all up tight like some of the others I have encountered. If you have a chance I advise you to take his class. He is such a smart guy.

Professor Gibbs made a 6-week microbiology course easy and possible! I was super nervous about taking this class in 6 weeks especially because it's a science but wow. Tests are usually 100 questions, plus two essay questions and lots of extra credit opportunities. Labs were really fun. Study study study for that A! I promise it is possible!

Cons: Slow getting grades back Pros: Extremely enjoyable lectures, great test reviews and study guides, no group projects or papers. Gibbs' micro course was my fave class thus far. He keeps students engaged, allows for questions during lecture and is thoroughly knowledgable in his field. I had so much FUN in this class. The long hours went by fast!

I took his class over Summer and I completely understood everything with him and he made it enjoyable. He gives you AT LEAST 20 points extra credit on the test and the lab practical are basically free points because they're so easy. He his really funny and makes you enjoy the what is being taught. Be prepared to draw a lot of colorful diagrams.

He was so amazing when I took him for Bio 100, im so looking forward to him for micro! He offers a lot of extra credit and the lectures were great! Definitely study because the study guide is just like the test. Show up to class for the labs. He lectured very well and if you didnt understand something he will explain it again for you.

Gibbs has great lectures and makes sure you understand the material that he's teaching. He does get off topic sometimes during lecture which personally distracts me but other than that study the notes thoroughly and you'll be sure to get an A. Also the textbook is NOT needed at all, just his lecture notebook he created and lab notebook.

This class is very essay as long as you study for the tests which he gives study guides for and if you attend the labs. There is in total 5 tests but the last test is a take home. Gibbs is funny and understands that sometimes the lectures are long so he tries to make them fun. He also gives out a decent amount of extra credit.

I took Gibbs in the winter, that's right 6 weeks people, and it was attainable! I recommend creating a study group and actually studying for about 3 hours every day. His lecture exams were pretty heavy but really easy IF you put the effort into studying! I really didn't think any professor could make micro easy and interesting but he def did. 10/10

I took class in Winter 2020, its a lot to learn a 6 week period but doable. He's funny and interactive with the class. He's very understanding, there were several people who were sick throughout the class. His class is very structured and you know what you'll be doing throughout the class.

I took Professor Gibbs's class over Winter '20, and it is refreshing. He is cool, very nice, and knows his stuff. I love the labs, especially Gram staining, and the exciting Unknown. Get ready to read and have a study group that can help a lot.

This class hits you with a lot of info. Gibbs is very knowledgeable and draws tons of pictures to help you memorize material. He is happy to answer your q's zoom. Assignments aren't always laid out in advance sometimes he adds them mid week which can be stressful if you already have a lot going on. Friendly, patient, caring.

Professor Gibbs made the Winter semester (2022) fun, and at the same time, I learned a lot in just 6 weeks. Although he's lecture-heavy, he kept my attention because he's extremely knowledgeable of what he teaches and very interactive. Hands down the most easy-going professor in VVC and generous w/ extra credit (you just have to work hard for it).

Amazing professor! Currently taking his hybrid class, and sad it's ending.. Laid back, understanding, and great personality. He is funny and easy to talk to, and cares about his students and their success. Not stressful because he does not overload you with work, but you still learn so much. Best professor I have had at VVC.. 11/10 recommend!

Hands down the best teacher on campus. Super easy going, hilarious, and always keeps it interesting. He always adds some funny tidbits in each lecture that not only make the class fun but also helps you remember the information. I wish I could've taken him for all my science classes. The on-campus class was fun, especially the final unknown!

Mr. Gibbs is a funny old fashioned guy. He's nice and his style of teaching is easy to grasp. He's a very slow grader if you take the exams or get extra credit points, don't expect to see those grades back for sometimes weeks at a time. He's very knowledgable about biology. The exams are rather big but gracious in giving extra credit.

Hands down to Professor Gibbs! His class is truly unique and very infromational I thought Microbiology was hard and I would barely pass but his class made every complex information easy. I recommend to take his class.

From the day I first laid eyes on Mr. Gibbs, I knew I walked into the right class room. Watching these lecture videos over and over was no problem for me as I enjoyed hearing him tell all about his life. Previous comments stated he had a dorky hot look but I found out that was no lie. Mr. Gibbs is organized, reviews for each exam and clear about the labs. I think he's an amazing professor, but the only issue is that he takes a while to submit final grades. If this is your final class for prereqs, you'll probably have to submit the nursing application last minute.

Professor Gibbs makes this challenging course engaging. His lectures are informative, and he offers generous extra credit opportunities. I found Unstuck study helpful for study prep alongside the textbook. Overall, a rewarding class worth taking.

As long as you pay attention to his lectures, you will pass the tests and quizzes. Weekly quiz gives you multiple chances to get a good grade. He enjoys teaching biology so his content isn't a complete snooze fest.
