Very simple class. Test questions taken word for word from in class review.
Learned nothing. Just memorized test questions from in class worksheets and review. Waste of my time and money.
He is nice. He talks about real life in relation to philosophy. He is funny, you will laugh a lot. YOU MUST ATTEND EVERY CLASS!
Boring
He is sort of a smartass in the way he likes to argue points of view. And that was the best part. If you study the hand outs you will pass with a great grade.
Undisciplined instructor. He frequently missed/ was late to class as the semester progressed. Completely ineffective disseminator of information. I would have been better off never going to class and trying to figure it out on my own, but the attendance quizzes shot that down.
Very easy teacher and fun class, likes to argue so be ready for that. Overall fun teacher.
Awesome professor! Humorous, makes class fun and interesting. Loves to debate and quizzes are easy as long as you read. Exams are word for word from the study guides. Often late and got out early a few times, can't complain.
He loves to argue, which makes the class interesting. The quizzes were eazy, as he gave away clues almost every time, and the exams were just the study guide questions!! Not hard to pass if you go to class.
Sometimes the class was frustrating, but Gilboa did a great job of getting people into the subjects and speaking out. He gave us review packets with the test questions in them, which made test taking much easier. He also got us interacting with other students, which I think is great.
Teacher makes class go by fast when you get him arguing, so get him talking and class will fly by, otherwise its very boring. Go to every class if you want to get an A. Need to attend, takes attendance and gives quizzes periodically, test are easy tho.
he is a kind and decent human being, but not a very good teacher. I learned absolutely nothing in his class, but I passed with a C. He should probably find a different career.
memorization is key! didn't learn much. talks about sex alot. not very helpful. statements are very unclear. contradicts himself alot.
Nice guy, but speaks somewhat fast. Very intelligent person.
Entertaining to say the least! If you get a good class(i.e. one that argues) he is a great prof. but without that it can get slow. Still, highly recomended!
He's very unclear of what he's talking about, but he's a nice guy and pretty entertaining at times. Just give him a good argument and it'll get the ball rolling. As far as the class goes, it's SUPER EASY!! He gives you the quizzes and tests so you just have to basically memorize...it's a VERY easy A if you just show up.
not really that hard at all, but he does not teach very well. the quiz booklet is easy since you can take the quizes before hand. the tests are pretty much the same as the quizes, so just study. did i mention they are all true and false questions?
He is a decent teacher. The class is easy. He pretty much gives you the exam before hand. There are a lot of quizzes but he assigns readings and gives you a quiz booklet so all you do is write if the statement is true or false in the booklet then fill out the scantron.
Would benefit his students and society overall through a career change to something other than a professor.
the worst prof i ever had
Tests are difficult, the wording is very hard to understand. Quizes are easy because you see them ahead of time.
TAKE THIS CLASS HE IS THE MAN!! SUPER EASY
Dr. Gilboa is the worst professor! He gives quizzes everyday from the reading...they are T/F but you better read closely because he will only change ONE word out of an entire paragraph which will make it false. I was always told that Phil. is all opinion based, well you better be able to memorize HIS opinion, tests are multiple choice.
Easy class. It was easy to get an A, but I honestly did not learn anything. You have all the questions for all tests ahead of time, and we got to watch the matrix.
agree!!! soooo easy. but the class itself is very thoughtprovoking if you choose to think. either way. you'll be fine.
How was this class even hard for anyone? Gilboa gives the quiz AND exam questions to students ahead of time and we get the exam answers during class. As long as you skim the text to find the quiz answers go to class and memorize key phrases for the exam, it's an easy A.
I never went to class, just memorized the take home test questions and easily got an A in the class.
Dr. Gilboa was very knowledgable in the class. Sparked debate between a couple of students who obviously loved philosophy. The rest of us were not so in love. I know that philosophy will not be my major but I did learn a couple of things from class. Dr Gilboa has a very dry sense of humor.
Hes a pretty good teacher. He isnt that helpful if you miss a class. If you come to class, he wont let you leave early. His tests are pretty easy as long as you study the "green book" that you need to buy for the class. Lots of quizes but they are really easy, open book quizes! Ok class, increased my interest a little, 3hrs is way to long though
He was difficult to understand at times because he is not American. But he was very helpful with giving us the answers to the review questions, which helped for the exams.
this class is one of the easiest i've taken in a while. he gives you the answers for the exams before hand and all you have to do is memorize them. boring, but worth it
good teacher, but tough exams. Accent is interesting to listen to.
this class is a joke. he gives u the questions that r going to be on the exam, u just have to memorize them. you take a quiz quite often but he gives u the quiz to take home. he hates if u leave the classroom even to go to the bathroom...hes funny, really weird and hard to understand, pretty boring, an easy A!
This class is what you make it. If you want to learn philosophy, you have the chance to, if you only want the easy A, that's also an option because he gives you the tests verbatim beforehand. The guy is funny to listen to. He is quite forgetful, forgetting what he did the class period prior. Oh, btw, group FOUR rules!
easssssy class. gives you quizzes and exams before you take them. all you have to do is memorize the test question because answers are the same. and for quizzes, you get to use your booklet... so you can just use your books to do them.
easy to understand, helpful when contacted either in class or by email, nice guy
Not going to lie, I went to class the first two weeks and that was it. He's a funny guy and he's hard to understand at times because of his accent, but overall he's a good teacher. All assignments are online and if you're good at teaching yourself, you'll do fine without going to class.
This class is super easy if you find someone who has already taken it. He uses the same materials every semester, and he doesn't even change his syllabus from semester to semester. Class are mandatory because he loves to give quizzes and the exams are alright if you study your review questions!!!
easiest phil 105 prof ever. take him and no one else.
This class angered me. I don't feel like any learning took place, for our answers during reviews or tests were never really corrected. Lecture was only interesting if you like the subject. Most of the discussions left me uncertain of what I should be learning or getting out of the class. I was left with confusion and a very doodled up notebook.
Gilboa is one of the worst professors I've ever had. He forgets what happened in the last meeting, he forgets when the class begins, and he doesn't finish a lecture if he doesn't finish the previous day. He also does not know how to structure multiple choice questions, making the options (a,b,c,d) litereally paragraphs long. Do not take his class.
The previous comments are true, he is VERY unorganized and confusing but this is probably the easiest A I've earned at UWO! All you do is take quizzes from the class packet, which are WORD FOR WORD true or false questions. Exams are based on memorization! Questions are in order of packet, you could memorize a,b,c,b,d,a,b if you wanted to! TAKE IT!
He was Terrible!! Impossible to get ahold of. Totally unorganized...Tests are based on memorization of the answers. Gives a cumulative reiview which was ridic and impossible to study for.
Worst professor in the Philosophy department. Classes seem pointless and had to teach myself the Logic. Wish another professor would have taught this class so I might have had actually learned something.
He did not know what was going on. He never remembered where he left off from the previous class, he was unorganized, and he couldn't send an attachment e-mail for the life of him. His class was easy, though. It's all memorization, so the fact that you can't understand him doesn't matter a whole lot. I didn't learn much, but at least I got an A.
How anyone could get an A in this class is beyond me; his exams are BS, multiple choice answers are a paragraph long and really confuse you, it's really unfair. People said his quizzes are the exact same questions and answers but they weren't for my class. I definitely wish I would have taken someone else.
Dropped this class late and took a "W", since I was going to fail this class. His exams are impossible and confusing, he is completely unorganized, and he doesnt know how to teach. Biggest waste of time ever taking his class
Professor has worst teaching style I've ever seen. My interest in philosophy worsened after taking this course. Exams are cut and past questions from review packets. Very poor method of measuring knowledge. Quizes, reviews, and exams words so confusing he can't understand them. This is the worst class and professor I've ever had!!
You need to adjust to his style of teaching, but once you do, you will be fine. Good lecture notes are crucial. Tests and quizzes are difficult, but he gives you the test questions to work out prior to the test. All the answers are in the lectures and text, and if you have trouble, use his office hours! Very helpful. Cool accent.
He gives quizzes almost everyday on homework readings. The lectures were pretty interesting but he is unorganized and doesnt pick up where he left off always. His tests are insane! He will give you the questions before the exam but they are worded so rediculously that you have a hard time answering them! I would re consider taking him.
I have absolutely no idea what everyone is talking about; this professor is amazing! His class consists of quizzes almost everyday on readings assigned the class before, and 4 multiple choice exams that he GIVES YOU THE QUESTIONS FOR about two-three days prior to the exam, PLUS he's helpful. If you go to class, you'll have no problem at all.
I would not recommend taking him. He has no specific order that he follows in his lectures. He never knows where he leaves off. His test questions are ridiculously hard. I have never seen another teacher who uses paragraphs for an A, B, C, or D answer. Quizzes daily which also makes you go to every single class in order to pass.
Dr.Gilboa is an intelligent professor who I felt clearly and tactfully applied the concepts he describes in his class. The textbook is a MUST because every quiz is verbadum out of the readings. The class was not difficult, but it does require thought and preparation outside the classroom. His review guides are VERY helpful as well.
Terrible, hard to follow lectures, tests on things that he didn't mention in lecture and that weren't in the book.
Gives students the wrong information during lecture, but has the right information on the test. He is very disorganized and forgets to bring quizzes to class quite often. He also has a really hard time conveying his thoughts with the English language, and leaves you confused most of the time. Very bad professor do not recommend.
Not an effective teacher. Exams are very difficult. Paragraph length questions with one word difference in each. Does give lots of quizzes. Gives a curve. Very boring class.
Very easy class! The review questions he gives you are the exact test questions!
I took this class over the summer interim and although we had a lot of material to cover and most of it is very dense he made it a great class. He made the material very easy to understand and he answers any questions you ask him clearly. Follow the study guides and do the reading and you'll do fine. I recommend him.
He is an entertaining guy and the whole lecture is often a discussion about the reading assignment. A short reading is due and a 10 question (T/F) quiz is ALWAYS given everyday. He emails (ungraded) review quizzes and the EXACT same questions appear on the exams (Easy A). If you go into his office, he will help you with any you did not understand.
He's an okay Professor. Tests and quizzes are almost impossible though. Gives 4 double negatives per question and each answer is a paragraph long with a couple words changed in each. Reviews are exactly the tests though.
I would avoid if I were you. Very difficult exams and quizzes, although does give useful reviews for exams. All exams/quizzes are worded very confusing. He is not good at English and isn't very clear. Grading structure is difficult and generally unfair. The final is very difficult (35% of grade)
Do not take him as a teacher, first of all don't take him if you're interest in philosophy is low, he gives pop quizzes unannounced, his lectures and discussions are boring, and he gives exams that are entirely fill in the blank, and they are not a good way to test your knowledge. Nice man but he is not a good teacher.
Logic isn't an easy course, period. This professor is a really nice guy, and is always willing to help. On the other hand, he can be confusing at times and very disorganized. Online assignments make up 30% of the grade, and there is a cummulative final. I received an A, but I definitely had to work for it!
He is a great professor. He is willing to help you with whatever you need. He answers any questions you have, and will take his time to answer your questions until you get it. His exams were fill in the blank and were not as hard. If you take good notes , you'll be fine on the exams. His quizzes are hard, if you don't do the readings.
He was one of the very few professors I've had who kept his own beliefs out of his class and you never knew where he stood. He is very brilliant and knows what to say to get us to think and ponder things. He gives us the questions that will be on the exam ahead of time and has a class review of them. Daily quizzes are tough. Highly recommend him!
Very confusing but somewhat easy class
Professor Gilboa is a good man and means well, don't get me wrong. He was respectful and a nice guy. As a professor at a university, there was a lot that could be changed about him. He was very hard to understand (english is his second language), never posts any grades online, and he does not specify what he wants. I don't recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Gilboa is one of the best professors on UWO campus. He is helpful, kindhearted, and a good lecturer, overall. He is always open to diverse opinions. He does a great outline every class, which is great for categorising everything under the larger umbrella. Would take again. Keep up the readings. You will love it.
Dr. Gilboa definitely expects a lot out of his students. This was a summer course, and we had a lot of material to cover in a short amount of time. Expect to read every assignment because there are daily quizzes, and his tests are fill in the blank from passages in the book. You need to put forth the effort in this class to expect a good grade.
Meh. Very boring professor. Wouldn't take him again.
I've had this professor in two classes now, He is dense in his line of thought! Doesn't seem to understand that students are intelligent and because of this his classes are easy. When using Apila do things in practice mode easy way to get 100% on everything. Doesn't follow a syllabus well, and exams are easy and questions are taken from lectures.
His accent gets in the way of his teaching sometimes. Lectures are long with an occasionally interesting debates on ethics. If you want to pass, get a tutor! It helped me a lot. His exams are fill in the blanks with a word box straight from the text or through his lectures, which is hard if you don't memorize things well.
His accent is makes it very hard to pay attention and he writes his questions and exams in the same context as his speech. He is a very monotone professor as well. It's very hard to stay awake as well. Be Prepared to spend long nights studying.
He didn't put in my grades for my first two exams, and now I will probably have to retake it half the semesters worth of exams. I thought handing the exams back meant that he had all the grades entered. Since he doesn't post grades on D2L, you do not really know what you're missing. MAKE SURE TO KEEP ALL YOUR EXAMS EVEN TIL THE END OF THE SEMESTER!
I attended class everyday as pop quizzes were worth 34% of final grade. The pop quizzes were not hard as long as you read the readings due for that day. there are really easy assignments that are online on Aplia. Also, he has an accent and at first it's really hard to understand him, but it gets a lot easier. Overall, not a horribly hard class.
Mr. Gilboa DOES NOT teach. He makes you read from a book and then assigns HUNDREDS of these Tophat questions online. Oh, and you HAVE to buy Tophat. It is a horrible app and is a waste of time. I learned nothing and this class brought my GPA down. Save yourself. Do not take his class.
He has a slight accent, but he is really easy to understand and is really funny. Tests are difficult but not impossible. Overall a good professor.
The class is pretty easy to pass if you just show up. The tests are just long papers with words missing that you have to fill in. This discussions during class are usually boring but can sometimes get very interesting. Each day you show up and do an online quiz of the previous reading and questions throughout class.
Professor Gilboa's class is super easy. Come to class and pay attention and you will be fine. He gives practice tests before the test and the real test is pretty much identical to what the practice test is. Review the night before a test and if you know how to do the problems you will be fine. Easy A. Homework is optional.
Dr. Gilboa is a kind and caring professor. He is just boring. If you pay attention and attend class, you'll pass for sure. The content can be confusing if you think too much although it's not necessarily hard. I basically read the textbook and passed.
Despite other reviews he is a very good professor. This class is an easy A. A good quest choice. His lectures are mostly to help your book reading. Only 5 tests on separate chapters. He will let you use notes on some if you ask nicely and attend class.
Hard to understand and kinda spacey. Otherwise easy A, just do the readings and come to class.
Dr. Gilboa is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He is extremely smart, extremely fair and his classes are very interesting. His homework is doable and manageable if you are taking many credits and his tests are also fine and you will do fine if you seat in class and listen to him. I guarantee: you will learn a great deal!
Gilboa is such a sweet professor who is very knowledgeable. The only thing that bothers me is he doesn't upload grades to D2L and doesn't tell you when the exam will be until the week of. He gives daily quizzes which are easy if you read. Exams are fill in the blank and are easy if you show up and pay attention. Overall good guy!
Lectures can be boing and really drag on, but overall the course it's self is pretty easy, however for this class I actually had to read the textbook. His lectures are based on what should already know from the previous reading. No quizzes and exams weren't too hard.
At the beginning of the semester, he always started class a couple of minutes early and then held back students to stay a couple minutes past class time. There's an online portion you have to pay for which is expensive along with the book. Expect a pop quiz every week, expect abnormally long multiple choice exams.
Dr. Gilboa is such a nice guy! He isn't very enthusiastic in his lectures, but he explains what you read for class clearly enough. If you read the book and do the homework, the class will be easy! Half of the assignments are graded, so it's easy to get 100% for that portion of the grade. The tests are quite easy. Just show up and try, you'll pass.
Gilboa's lectures are super boring. Everyone bombed the first test because it was so hard so he changed the format of the tests for the rest of the semester, but he didn't curve the grades at all. You have almost daily quizzes on readings from the textbook and then four or five big chapter exams. He doesn't do a good job of explaining content.
I do not recommend this professor. He often starts class early, before everyone is in the room, or sometimes he comes to class late. Lectures are long and heavy, there is basically a quiz every day. He doesn't explain things well. On top of that, he takes pretty long to reply to emails.
Was an interesting class. I learned a lot. Caring, fair grader, made you work to your potential. I would take his class all over again.
