HE SPENDS EXTRA TIME WHEN ASKED, AND VERY GOOD TEACHER, HE SURE KNOW'S HIS STUFF
really nice and easy
No Comments
Very nice teacher. Boring but still recommended.
GREAT teacher! I've never learned so much in a class! He loves what he does and he does it very well! HIGHLY RECOMENDED!
great, great class! teacher knows his stuff and is very nice and helpful to the students. easy on the eyes, and very knowledgeable about his subject. very enthusiastic. easy tests, but expect lots of reading.
He makes quirky and corny jokes, but it lightens the mood. He gives great notes. The tests are somewhat difficult. He really makes astronomy interesting.
He is enthusiastic about astronomy. Tests are multiple-choice allows a full typed back and forth cheat sheet during test & provides study guide. Tests are difficult but teacher is helpful. Sometimes it hard to read the overhead projector and can’t write notes. No home work, essays, or extra credit.Ok class.
I loved his class... it was so easy I didn't even have to open the book.
Loved this teacher, still have a crush on him. All other ratings were true about his teaching style. Wish he taught other subjects i was taking
I had him for 103 and 104. His jokes can be dorky but he made the class easy to understand. I enjoyed taking his classes and recommend him highly. He gives great notes and his tests weren't that bad at all.
He was a great teacher. Made jokes, used demonstrarions to keep class interesting. Tests were multiple choice and he let us bring qouble sided cheat sheet. He also gave us a prep sheet with what would be on the test. Tests were also full of gag or logic questions. Great class recommend highly! Would instantly take another of his
Don't take his online class... it sucks and it's way easier in class. Took 101 in class and it was fun. Tests are easy and open note. He does a lot of cool stuff with the crap on the walls. It's been awhile.. almost two years, but he's ok - just not online.
Great teacher, very knowledgeable on his subject! How to ace class: Try to come to class as much as you can, skim chapter before lecture, and actually copy notes he gives during lecture. Your grade is based on 3 tests only! But he allows 1 full cheat sheet front and back for whatever you want to have for each test.
He was a nice teacher overall but I took a class online and I found his test to be difficult. You are required just to read a lot of chapters and then take an open book test but no matter how much I read and studied I could not pass the test. I guess my test taking skills didnt fit well with his test.
Take his class in person, he is a very interesting professor and if you listen in class and take decent notes you can easily pass the class with an A, and learn a lot about astronomy along the way. I didn't even buy the book because his lectures were very informative and coherent.
I took his class online it was the best. I recommend it if he still does online.
Very considerate and helpful. Easy to talk to. A little boring and overused jokes. Hard and boring subject - astronomy
The corny jokes are never-ending, but they are amusing too. Very nice guy who knows his stuff. Easy multiple choice tests, notes allowed. Whether you're interested in astronomy or not, if you pay attention you'll probably like the class.
Astronomy is a surprisingly difficult subject to study, but he tries his best to teach. Some principles are impossible to grasp, but blame science for that one. You can use a cheat sheet on tests, but they are still difficult so be sure to STUDY. He knows his stuff and is really just this corny, fun loving guy.
I would definitely recommend this instructor. Memorization is typical of any science class. The teacher keeps the class interesting. Read the book and take good notes and you will do well.
He is a really awesome teacher!
very interesting class. good professor. i recommend him.
He's a good teacher and a genuinely nice guy. He made Astronomy interesting to me and I'm seriously thinking of taking him for 104.
Took this as an online class and it went very well. Prof Goldwater is very helpful. He gives plenty of notes and provides study guides for the three exams. He is quick to respond to any questions or concerns. No weekly homework or quizes, just three exams. Prof Goldwater A+++
Amazing professor, I just wanted to take an easy science class but got a whole lot more! His lectures are never boring, the jokes are corny but funny. He really wants you to learn and understand, you get to use a sheet of notes on the three tests, attendance isn't mandatory but you should go to every class, it's fun going anyway.
He is the best astronomy teacher I've ever had and he has a passion for teaching astronomy which I think is hot. His class isn't difficult but you need to come to class, take notes, & read the book in order to do well. He gives you a study guide 2 weeks before the test & you can use a page of notes front/back. There are 3 tests & multiple choice
This was by far the best college class I have ever taken! I came into the class knowing nothing about astronomy, and left with a deep desire to learn more about it. Lectures are fun and informative. His love of astronomy is obvious, and you can't help but come to love it too. I just wish I could take more astronomy classes from him!
I have taken Goldwater twice for astronomy:103 and 104. He is great! Very knowledgeable on his subject and makes it fun. He usually cracks a few jokes here and there just to throw you back into reality, cause this topic is out of this world!! Truly would reccommend this man as your professor.

Nothing bad to say here. Good teacher, fair, reasonable, and doesn't ask much out of you other than you pass his 3 exams. Btw, all you have to do on his online course is take those 3 exams!
Always willing to explain concepts, even if it was not covered in class. Always gave review sheets prior to exams so students know what to focus on. You should be able to get at least a B if you listen to his lectures and pay attention.
This guy is awesome. All you have to do is go to class each day and write down everything he says. Then when the exams come around he lets you use a cheat sheet. Some people flunk the exams but they are stupid. Great class.
Took online AST 103.Seems like nice guy who loves teaching the subject.I had to drop the class though because of his ridiculous WORK LOAD.It was a tough subject to try and take online considering I am not a science major. Not clear teaching.Maybe if this was the ONLY class I had signed up for the work load wouldn?t of been so hard to complete.
This man is great. 3 tests throughout the semester, thats your entire grade, so dont miss class!! he's also very funny! study and you'll get an A or B
He is truly an "astronomically" great professor - LOL! Even though it's only the second week of class, I know this will be the best college course I've ever taken. I suggest that EVERYONE take this class - even if you don't love astronomy now, you soon will.
I took this class because it worked out in my schedule, but now I've heard from some of my friends taking other astronomy classes and they are all sorry they don't have him! He absolutlely loves astronomy, and he is making me love it too. He makes jokes about "when we take AST 103" but I know I will take it next semester because of him.
excellent professor he loves to help his students and astronomy I recommend him for everyone who needs science tells jokes to keep us interested and maakes me love astronomy take goldwater if you get the chance you will have the time of your life
very helpful
This guy is phenomonal!I loved his class, it's easy, I gaot an A in this class without even trying.just go to class, take the notes, you'll be fine. There are only three tests and that's the whole grade.you get to use a two-sided sheet of notes, can be typewritten, as small as you want.i managed to fit all of my notes for the section on one paper!!!
He is the best professor I have ever had he takes out his office hours to help all students he is very organized and knows his stuff he shows images to help challenging concepts he is an amazing professor
He is the best professor I have ever he is always willing to help students when they ask and very organized
He is the best professor I have ever had excellent class
He is the best professor I have ever Iloved the class I enjoyed the lectures every class and learned something new everyday
He is the best professor I have ever had. I learned something new everyday
He is a great professor; just make sure to stay on top of the reading material. And make sure that you take good note, test tend to be a little difficult. Read the chapters in book, and take good note, Youll do just fine....
A lot to learn but he makes it fun and interesting. Very approachable. No homework, 3 tests only for final grade plus extra credit. You can you a single sheet of paper for notes. Take good notes & make a good "cheat-sheet" and you will do good.
OMG! Best professor ive ever had. I had to drive across town for this class, but i was glad to do it cuz i learned something cool everyday. His grading is awesome! Overall awesome guy, loves what he does and it shows. Im for sure gonna take another class from him, you should too haha.
Best professor ever period!! He makes class so much fun and easy to understand. He's brilliant and has a great sense of humor!
He is the best professor I had. he cares for all of his students willing to help all students he always attends class even if he is not feeling well. he is very understanding if students are sick I hope he teaches for a long time
I loved the jokes he told us because they were funny and showed us how much he loves astronomy excellent professor
Awesome professer. Has a great love for astronomy, and if you want to learn, he will teach teach teach. Doesn't give out homework, which means you may have to study more, but it's not a bad thing. Loves to say 'wrong as hell'. Funny guy. Take good, clear notes, and you'll enjoy his class
This is the first A I've gotten in a science class in YEARS, and it's all because of David Goldwater. He lays out all of the material in a straightforward manner, and isn't focused on the math but on the concepts. He uses a LOT of puns, but in a funny and endearing way. Take this class for one of your science requirements!!
Before I took this class, I looked Prof Goldwater up on this site and saw that everyone said he was the best professor ever. I was skeptical at first, but I still took his class and I have to say... HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER! 3 Tests make up your entire grade and you can use a cheat sheet on each one. No homework. He made this class my favorite
This prof enjoys teaching and makes the class fun. For me, it was a fairly difficult class because it was very "technical." Grades are from 3 tests, that's it, which gives you no room to up the grade thru homework, discussion, etc. Overall, excellent teacher - just study hard!!
Professor Goldwater is amazing! Not only is he an amazing teacher but he really cares that everyone understands everything. He puts all the notes up for you to copy down and breaks down hard concepts and makes it seem really simple. Only three exams, no midterm or final, study for his exams and you pass with flying colors!
Prof. Goldwater absolutely loves this subject. Read everything in the text book and use the study guide. Only three tests for the grade.
Fantastic instructor: funny, clear and current on the info, and deeply exuberant about both the subject and teaching. Highly recommended.
I looked forward to every class. Very good teacher.
great teacher, funny and makes the notes easy to understand. He clearly knows his subject. no homework only exams which he calls "partys" lol. exams are tricky but most of the info is in your notes. and you get one page front and back for each exam I think there were only 3 exams. I definitely recommend him.
I agree with all of the other glowing reviews about his wonderful teaching style and personal likability. The fact that he is attractive to look at as well is just icing on the cake.
Best professor ever take notes read the book and you will do stellar :)
Professor Goldwater is out of the World :D
HE PERSONALLY IS GREAT LOUD AND FUNNY BUT.. HIS TEST ARE VERY DIFFICULT AND HE GIVES MORE NOTES THAN I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN ANY CLASS! YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY OR YOU WILL MISS 5 PAGES OF NOTES! VERY HARD TEST AND NO OTHER WAY TO GET XTRA POINTS .. GREAT GUY BUT DIFFICULT CLASS NO ONE HERE TALKS ABOUT HOW DIFFICULT HIS CLASS IS!! BUT IT IS
he is a good professor he gives a lot of notes which are difficult to understand so you must get the book to help you review for the test, a lot of of the material is in the book so do that and attend class everyday and you will do fine :)
Great Teacher....a bit crazy...but that's good.
Goldwatter is a great and funny teacher.. and once you get used to the constant corny jokes they actually get kinda funny. As for the work in the class well really there isn't any but the exams are really easy.
Great way to begin school, with the universe and beyond! Great energy from teacher. Inspired to take another astronomy class this Fall!
his class is fun some of the notes are only hard to understand if you don't pay attention in class. it also helps if you ask questions if you don't you won't be close to passing.
Took this class in a 4 week Summer Session. I dont recommend doing that. Way to much information at one time. Expect 5 pages (front & back) of notes every lecture. Grades are based on 3 exams. They are super tough. GREAT TEACHER but be ready to work!
Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry hard but really fun and full of info.
Great professor. There is a lot of information to take in each class. I never really used the book. It is much easier to study for tests off of the student supplement. You can fill the student supplement out during his lectures. That will make it a lot easier for you. Awesome teacher overall.
Great professor, and loves the subject. Can't add anything that all the other reviews haven't covered already. great fun and WILL take 103 and 104 in the future just for the enjoyment of the professor and the subject. Not for a requirement
I have to agree with everybody else and say that Prof. Goldwater is awesome. He's really funny and nerdy...but in a funny way. Haha. He loves astronomy obviously and really connects with his students. He's very clear in his lectures. Tons of notes, GO TO CLASS or you will NOT do well, from experience lol. Tests are pretty difficult as well.
amazing teacher. I don't understand why some people think he's hard. His exams are extremly easy. Got a B on all without studying and he allows a cheat sheet. Just pay attention and takes notes and you'll be fine.
Professor Goldwater was an awesome teacher. You MUST attend classes in order to understand what is going on; as mentioned before, he does allow a "Study Guide" for tests and they are not simple. Still, if you study and work for it you can definitely pass the class.
Awesome and geat instructor. He is also wonderful to look at! All of his tests are easy and there is a lot of info! His jokes are so funny and his class is enjoyable. Great teaching style. Loves Astronomy and has a passion for it! I will take Ast 103 or 104 just for fun because I loved the subject so well. You should too! Take him! He's the BOMB!
The ideal professor. All his lectures are interesting and on point. Take detailed notes, read the text book you'll learn a lot about the vast universe and get an easy A.
Cool, calm class. Funny guy. Three tests, no homework. Fairly easy. Only problem is his teaching style; sometimes he gives so much notes that all of your focus switches to keeping up with him, rather than paying attention to what he's saying.
Great teacher, great personality. I am terrible at science and AST does not interest me at all so I struggled in this class. It wasn't him making this class annoying, it was me. Strongly recommend this teacher and remember you CAN look at your notes on tests! I didn't know that until the end of the year.
I would not recommend taking this online class. There were only three tests and no homework, but the tests were very very hard. there's a 100 questions per test and you only get 110 minutes to complete the test. you only get 1 min per question and the questions are not easy.
AMAZING AMAZING professor. His passion for astronomy is extremely contagious and it shows through his teaching. Honestly one of the shining jewels of CSN. Passionate, smart, and challenging. Try not to miss classes because you'll be taking pages of notes every day.
Simply one of my favorite Professors ever. The class is very interesting and he is very passionate about the material. I am going to take Astronomy 104 with him next semester. Very fair tests also.
LOVE THIS MAN! He is so clear in his teachings. He makes it fun and enjoyable to listen to him. Not monotone. Jokes around a bit. Fantastic class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This professor is HORRIBLE. Your whole grade is only based on three exams. The exams are on several chapters, and the questions are not even straight forward. About 2/3 of my class is failing. I took his online class. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!
Best of both worlds! He's a great guy, with a passion for teaching. Notes are plentiful, but if you copy them you won't need your book. He makes a difficult subject easy to follow and allows you one cheat sheet for each of the 3 exams. He's very punny (pun intended), and encourages participation in extra-credit assignments. Take in person!
This class was a cake walk, my grade was based off of 3 tests. I got 2 D's and a B on the tests and received a B in the class because he curves the scale.
Took his online AST 104 class. It was challenging, but any college level science class should be. I studied hard and did well. He was very helpful when I asked questions. In regards to the one and ONLY bad post, some students should remain in grammar school (where breathing alone gets you an A). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Amazing :)
Great teacher, very passionate about Ast! I took online it is a HARD class but I got an A because I put the necessary studying time in to this difficult subject. He offers xtra credit, a curve and is very fast to respond on emails. If you fail this class you are lazy and don't want to work hard to earn even a C. Seriously, this is college.
u take 3 tests, and u have a few chances to get extra credit by attending shows. attend them! they are worth alot of points. the tests are multiple choice, like 50-75 questions. pretty hard if you dont attend classes because about 90% of the questions are based on inclass notes.save money, buy previous editions of book. its all about NOTES!
Teacher is very intertaining and knowledgeable. He loves what he does and cracks jokes every class time. The tests are hard (in my opinon), but there's a chance for extra credit. The Planetarium is used every class and is fun to watch. Overall, I reccommend this class.
Awesome teacher but a hard class. He loves Astronomy!!! Pretty hot too.
Great teacher! really fun class with great energy. He really makes it fun and and communicates very well with his students. I highly reccomend this class! Even if your not interested in Astronomy its a blast!!Is a lot of fun.
Professor Goldwater is extremely interesting he makes class fun. you must attend. his exams are very hard. you must take notes and you must come to every class or your done! He does give (1) chance at extra credit. Loved his class
I didn't care too much about Astronomy before this class, but afterwards, I could not get enough. He's an amazing teacher, and if you don't mind all the bad puns, he's great.
I always recommend Goldwater! He is a fantastic professor who a makes a hard subject easy to understand. His jokes are astronomically ridiculous, but makes the class fun. Show up, do your work and extra credit and you will do just fine.
Took the online class. When I did ask a question he gave me the same answer that was in book. I would not have asked the question if I understood what the book said, maybe answering in a different way would have been helpful. A test every week, some of the questions were not even in tha chapter, they were in the next chapter.
I wasn't very interested in Astronomy until I took Goldwater's 103 class. After my first lecture, I was hooked. Took his 101 class and today was my last lecture. Simply put, Goldwater is the greatest professor I have ever had. He's a man who changed my life and opened my eyes to the universe. It was an honor learning from him.
Goldwater is very nice and approachable. He tries to help if you ask. Astronomy is just difficult, boring, and not my favorite science. I don't think I made it through reading a chapter of the book. Online class is quiz heavy (20+), 3 exams kind of hard. He curves the grades though. He also gives a chance for extra credit. DO THOSE QUIZZES! B
Mr. Goldwater is a fantastic teacher!!!! He makes a difficult subject easy to understand. I thoroughly enjoyed his class. You must attend every class and there is A LOT of notes but if you pay attention and put in an effort, you can get an A!! Very nice, and approachable teacher!
I took this class over the summer and it was PHENOMENAL!! I had no prior interest in astronomy, but he definitely knows what hes talking about. As far as the tests go, if you buy the supplement book, it goes along with everything that he talks about in class. And he lets you use a page of notes on each test. Easy class, just pay attention!!
Goldwater is by far the most amazing teacher ever. His passion for astronomy really shows, he makes his class fun and his lectures are full of info. Be prepared to take pages of notes! There is no homework, 3 exams & 1 extra credit. Pay attention, show up and pass. Also, he is very handsome. MUST TAKE, LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
Teacher keeps things interesting. Not really any surprises. If you pay attention take good notes. As soon as you can after each class go through and answer questions from study guide workbook.
He's a great teacher. Really fun, makes it interesting. Just show up and study.
I HIGHLY recommend you take his class if you plan on taking an astronomy class. He cares deeply about his students, and he has a lot of passion about his profession. He makes it interesting and is willing to help you with any concerns. The book wasn't really needed, but study all your notes! He allows one cheat sheet for every test/exam.
Very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and passionate!
Amazing teacher. He's super funny and in love with what he teaches. So the classes are always informative and fun.
He is a GREAT teacher!!! He is absolutely passionate for the subject and AWESOME at teaching it. 3 exams, 70 multiple questions each and allows 1 cheat sheet. You HAVE to go to his classes, most of his tests are based on his personal notes and very little on the book!! Enjoy!
Extremely difficult. Way too much information to retain. You get 1 sheets of notes for each test which is very helpful but the amount of information is crazy. I never thought astronomy was that intense. He is hilarious and very knowledgeable and helpful. Attend EVERY class, read the book and take amazing notes and you'll survive.
Mr. Goldwater is a remarkable teacher. He is very passionate about astronomy. It is a lot of information, however if you take notes, and study using the supplement book you should do fine. I am not a science major and was able to keep up fairly well. If your just interested or need to take astronomy Mr. Goldwater is the teacher to take hands down
Amazing professor, but not an easy class. Grades class on curve, 86% is an A. The supplement book is helpful if you want an A. If you do it you should get an A on first two exams. The last test do the supplement book, read the chapters, and pay Attension in class if you want A. Teacher will help you before and after class if you need it.
Love his class. He writes everything down on projector so attendance is a must. All notes are what you write down. He allows cheat sheets for exams and keeps moving forward with the class unless there is something you do not understand. He will stop and ask, if no one says anything he keeps going. SIMPLIFIES EVERYTHING, I recommend!
you can tell professor Goldwater loves what he teaches. He makes the class so entertaining with his enthusiasm. I tried and studied for the tests and received a B. His class wasnt easy but it was worth it. I didnt have the book either.
I absolutely love this professor. This is my second class with him and I'm actually considering taking the 104 class just because. He is very passionate about astronomy and it shows in his lectures. There are only 3 tests and 1 extra credit plus you get 1 full sheet of notes for each test. His jokes are funny to most and hes really cute to boot.
Mr. G is wonderfully funny and enthusiastic. Even when signing up, my counselor and a friend on Facebook had nothing but nice things to say about him.
If you are interested in space at all you will love this class he makes you want to learn more about everything. He has great lectures so going to class is more like a treat than a mandatory thing. People who chose not to go to class received lower grades on average.
He was an AMAZING teacher. He covers test information in class and is very informative, just make sure to come to class or you will seriously miss out.
Took his four-week General Astronomy class. Amazing teacher, amazing lectures. Definitely take this class!
Awesome class! If you're a serious note-taker then this is the class for you. Quizzes are based more on his notes than the book (2 pg notes ok), so if you're not trying to read then go to class. He tells the corniest jokes but they're so bad they're good. Overall if you go to class and pay attention and take good notes easy B, read and note easy A.
Professor Goldwater is great! He makes learning astronomy really fun & interesting, has a great personality, & uses video & other forms of teaching besides just notes & lectures. Make sure to really listen to what he says in lecture, & add that to your notes, as some of the questions of the test will derive from that.
He doesn't take attendance at any point in the semester, so no worries. It will be a lot easier though to get through the tests if you do attend. His lectures aren't boring. He mixes in some corny jokes, images, videos, and drawings into his lectures and they aren't extremely long so they're easy to get through. Feel free to ask questions.
Mr. Goldwater is absolutely fantastic. It is clear how much he loves Astronomy, and his love is contagious! He makes you excited to go to class and learn more and is at class early and late so you can ask any questions about anything astronomy, whether on hmwk or not. 3 exams but you are able to have a full page front and back of notes. choose him!
One of the best, most dedicated, and hard working Prof. at CSN. Took 103 in class & 104 online both classes were wonderful. Online class: 18 quizzes(3 attempts each) & 3 exams(100 Q each). For exams just copy all quizzes(all attempts) and study those. Great Prof. Take him & gain some knowledge. Good luck
Pro: -attendance not graded -makes puns and is humorous -passionate about astronomy. EXTREMELY. -lets you have a sheet of notes on allexams -makes study guides Cons: -can only get notes in class -exams ARE your grade -does not get to know students -LOTS of things to know for exams
Class is based off modules. Spent $100+ on the book, didn't open it once. 1 or 2 quizzes a week; 3 attempts for quizzes @ 20 minutes. 3 exams, 1 attempt @ 110 minutes. Exams are quizzes put together. Be sure to study quizzes for exams. Exam 2 acts as midterm & exam 3 is final. 2 planetarium show for extra credit. Summarize show & host signs.
If you have seen Community, this is a Winger class. Ridiculously easy tests that you can basically look up from his review notes. You can read the book but it is not necessary. He is very thorough in his modules so if you don't want to buy the book read those. Easy A
Took him in the spring of 2016. As an Astronomy major this class came really easy to me, but for someone without the background and this your first time taking astronomy, I highly recommend him. Lectures are long but not boring, and tests are relatively easy. Goldwater has a passion for astronomy and wants you to learn. Good professor.
He is an amazing professor. You can tell he loves what he teaches. I was never lost or confused for his class. You just have to show up to take notes and then study for the quizzes. He was very helpful if you had any questions. It was so easy to understand. He is also very funny and entertaining. I highly recommend him!
Nice professor. He writes his own lecture notes in the modules, but you definitely need to still read the chapter in the book. There's a quiz every week, sometimes 2 in one week, but you have 3 days to complete the quiz and 3 tries to boost your score. 3 exams that are pretty much the same quiz questions. Extra credit if you go to the planetarium.
I think this is the class that everybody should take. 1 test every week. (12) questions average 3 tries (20 minutes). You get 3 days to take the test which is good for people who are super busy . I didn't even buy the book and I'm getting an A. Having two jobs and going to school full time. If I can get an A without a book then you can as well!
David Goldwater is exceptionally passionate about his subject and he inspires his students to love astronomy. This class is an easy A if you show up, take notes, and do the several practice tests he hands out. He's funny and fascinating in class, and he definitely cares about his students. Attendance is not mandatory, but everyone shows up!
He's fun and very informative. Second class I've had with him love him
Attendance doesn't matter in this class. Study guides are as thick as a textbook and only half of it would be on the exams. Only thing your graded on is your tests and that one extra credit so it doesn't even matter if you should up to class or not. And for me i'm really bad at exams.
Goldwater really is a good guy; astronomy is not my favorite subject so I had to work extra hard to get a decent grade. He is a funny dude, kinda shy and awkward if you approach him by yourself, but nonetheless he's a good professor. My only complaint is that he does go very fast during his lecture (which are super heavy) and grades out of 3 exams.
You can tell that he has a great passion for astronomy. I would love to take his class again.
An easy class. I honestly never opened my textbook and went by the notes we took in class and passed with a great grade. Allows you a sheet of paper on the 3 exams you have. THeyre the only assignments in the entire class. No homework. Just take notes, study for the tests, use that sheet of notes on the test, and you'll pass.
Easy class. There are quizzes every 3-4 days, about 10 questions each and you get 3 attempts every time. There are 3 exams through out the course and those are 100 questions and they are usually the same questions as the quizzes. Easy easy easy!!
I took Ast103 online, and really enjoyed his class. He really wants everyone to do well, and is very accessible. Great feedback, and makes it fun and interesting. The grading is very straightforward, and you will know where you stand at all times. Would definitely take a class from him again.
If you like astronomy, this guy is stellar. He is freakin' hilarious and incredibly well versed in what he teaches. If you take notes and do the practice tests he offers, you will pass. By far the best experience I've had in college was attending his classes.
Your grade's determined by 3 tests. That's quite literally it. He's funny and nice. LECTURE HEAVY! I didn't study or do hw, just read my notes and got an A. The tests arent even difficult. He lets you have a cheat-sheet for each test. I've heard people don't like the class, maybe lots of note taking bothers some people? I donno. Relatively easy A.
Prof. Goldwater is very knowledgeable in his field. His lectures are worth learning. He is very caring and hilarious. I highly recommend his class! TAKE HIM!
Great professor, super funny, tests are great because he lets you use a study guide on them but you really should study and not solely rely on them. i would definitely take him again and the class in the planetarium so it makes it that much cooler.
By far one of my favorite professors. His class is purely lecture-based, but he presents information in a very understandable way. There are no homework assignments, and only 3 exams, that's it. He also allows you to use 1 full page of notes for exams as well. The textbook is not required, just recommended if you struggle. Highly recommend taking
VERY passionate about this subject, so there is lecture from start to finish of class. Lots of notes, but review guide answers come from the notes in order. 3 exams, 1 extra credit opp. (DO IT! raised my grade 14%). Gives review guides that are VERY similar to test, allowed 1 front and back cheat sheet. Amazing professor & hilarious! TAKE HIM!
He's the best Astronomy professor at CSN. I have taken AST 103 and 104 with him, and have absolutely loved it each time. Grading criteria is clear. Three exams for the semester makes up your whole grade, and he allows an 8.5 x 11 front and back sheet of paper for notes for each exam. If you go to class and take the notes, you should definitely pass
Amazing instructor. He will lecture from the start of class to the end. Lots of notes. Only 3 graded tests, no homework or quizzes. Lectures are interesting, and really funny at times. Teaches in the planetarium, which he uses from time to time to explain things. Textbook is optional, and unless you love to read textbooks, you wont need it.
Goldwater was great! Hilarious & immensely knowledgeable! Attendance isn't mandatory & there isn't much work to be done (which saves you time for studying). Just 3 exams, & they're all you're graded on. This class was certainly a lot harder than I thought, but if you study hard enough you should be fine. There's also a 10 pt E.C. assignment, DO IT!
This class was boring. I love astronomy, but all this prof did is talk. No Hw, no assignments all you got were 3 test based on the chapters you read and notes you took in class. Now for some students, that's awesome, easy A, unfortunately, I don't learn like that so personally, I would never take a class with him again.
Professor Goldwater is a real gem of a teacher. He makes learning about Astronomy fun! I loved it already but as I get ready for my final, I am leaving it loving it even more and hating that my major isn't in this field. He presents the material with ease. Take notes and you'll survive. Deff would take again
During the whole semester you only have 3 exams and an extra credit to do. Thats all he grades you by. Was not the class for me. Each test is worth 70 points. If pass all with 70 , you get 210 points and pass with an A, other wise the lower the test score, the lower the grade when combined.
Very approachable and willing to answer questions. Take LOTS of notes, his test follow his lecture. So the test will follow your notes. Hes allowed cheat sheets, so you have answers at your fingertips
You only get 3 tests, but you are allowed a 2-sided cheat sheet for each. Everything you need to know is gone over in class, and you can fit all your notes onto your allowed cheat sheet if you try. He makes complex information fun and is very engaging. The whole class had a "story of science" feel, which made me want to come back to hear more.
I took Professor Goldwater class online this summer. The course consisted of 3 exams, all were multiple choice. There were 80 questions on each exam. They are really easy to answer if you study his notes (including the Q&As he gives) and the key ideas for each chapter. Also there was a very easy writing you can do for extra credit. Easy A!!!
This online summer class has five assignments total: a syllabus quiz, three tests, and an extra credit assignment. You just read a few chapters and take a test. The tests only cover material from the reading you've done and not material from previous tests. He also gives supplemental material and a study guide. A really easy and interesting class.
Second time taking Goldwater and just as impressed as the last time! Radiant and always in a positive mood for lectures! Hilarious and incredibly charismatic! Youre only graded on three multiple choice exams and an extra credit assignment that is optional (do it, it helps). AST 104 is harder than 103 so STUDY HARD! You only need 86% to get an A!
I loved taking this class. Hands down my favorite class Ive taken. Hes great at teaching and very clear with what hes saying. Be ready to take a lot of notes, and he was right I do look at the stars a little differently now.
Make sure to take a picture of the previous class summaries because that will help you on your exams. If you take notes in class and do the chapter reviews you will pass. Professor provides plenty of notes and reviews on canvas, did not need the book. **Gives 1 extra credit assignment, and its fun.
Lots of ready, pay attention in class, take notes. This class was hard for me, but in the end I did learn a lot. Loved the profession.
Professor Goldwater is the best professor I've had so far, bar none. He takes an incredibly complex subject and makes it not only understandable but interesting too. His passion for his discipline is evident, and it shows in his lectures. I fully intend to further my astronomical education thanks entirely to his efforts.
Take Goldwater! Ive learned so much in his class. This is my second time taking AST 103 (first time I failed with a a different professor) Honestly if you show up, take notes, and make yourself a cheat sheet before each quiz you will do great! I really enjoyed his jokes. You will have an astronomically good time :)
By far one of the greatest professors I've had. He is very passionate about astronomy and makes the class lectures enjoyable. There are 3 exams throughout the semester and lets you use a cheat sheet.
BEST PROFESSOR. truly take him over any other astronomy professor, his humor keeps a lively environment, he makes astronomy puns, amazing lectures, very engaging. 11/10 take his class
He's super funny and very specific with his lectures. I enjoyed the classes very much because the things you learn are out of this world. Make sure to take good notes because they will help you study for the three test in the class. The study guides are very helpful. You have to take responsibility of actual studying.
Professor Goldwater is very passionate. His lectures can get very boring He covers all the material but not in a clear manner. He makes up for this by providing study guides for each test. Attendance is not mandatory.
Very funny professor. His lectures can be heavy and boring, but they can be very informative. The only assignments in the class are three exams. He lets you use cheat sheet for the exams and gives a bunch of resources in Canvas to help you out. Only one extra credit is given throughout the course and that is to see a planetarium show.
Gives opportunities for extra credit and is HILARIOUS and passionate in his lectures. He definitely convinced me during lectures to take his 104 course next semester. I also took 105, the labs were not hard if you read the informative sheets he posts on canvas before each lab. It also helps to take his 103/104 course as in class notes will help
Lecture heavy, I found no reason to ever even crack my textbook. Between his lectures and all the notes online , I personally never Needed the book , so consider saving Your money. Hes super passionate annoy astronomy, which rubbed off onto me. I think hes just a wonderful person. 3 exams, cheat sheet allowed, 1 extra credit offered.
Professor Goldwater is amazing, he is extremely funny. I was intimidated by this class because everything you have to learn but he made it simple and easy. You take 3 test, 70 questions each. Extra credit for planetarium attendance. Taking him again next semester.
Goldwater is great, you can really tell he loves his subject, and his enthusiasm rubs off on you. Has a great sense of humor, beware of lots of astronomy puns! I wish he taught a lab. He does 3 exams, which make up your entire grade, but he gives extra credit for attending a free planetarium show, which boosts your next exam by giving an extra 14%.
I took AST103,104, and 105 with Professor Goldwater. He was AMAZING!! So passionate and enthusiastic. It is VERY helpful to use his practice quizzes on Canvas and fill out the Exam reviews as you go. Do this (and don't skip class) and your A is guaranteed.
This grade is based on 3 exams and one optional extra credit assignment. The exams are not difficult and if you do the study guides it helps a lot. You can tell he is a professor who loves his job and cares about his students and them passing. I would love to take one of his classes again.
Professor Goldwater is an amazing professor. Right off of the bat he gives you a direct layout of the semester and what is expected. I took this class during Summer (six weeks), so expect to read and take notes on a handful of chapters a week. This class is only graded off of 3 exams, so be sure you study hard for those. Great class! Amazing Prof!
Professor Goldwater is very nice with lots of humor. I took the Ast. 104 class Spring 2020. It wasn't that bad, since I really like astronomy. I will go back and visit the planetarium shows when everything gets back to normal. I will miss astronomy 103 and 104 class since I've liked astronomy since I was a child. The tests were difficult.
I took Professor Goldwaters 6 week online summer class and it was definitely an easy A! Only graded on 3 exams, entrance quiz, and an extra credit so if you read and study you will do just fine. You can tell he really is passionate and loves what he teaches. Would definitely take him again!
If you love taking tests and reading then this is for you. I personally love astronomy and felt like this was unnecessarily difficult and too much slammed into one course. You have to read multiple chapters a week and then read lengthy posts that make you feel lost. 70 questions on the test, very vague confusing answers.
Professor Goldwater is very passionate about Astronomy which makes it so interesting to learn about it. Hes a very organized professor which made it easy to navigate on canvas. I took his online course and all you had to do was study the criteria provided which were notes that he explains and goes through in his lectures. Total of 3 exams.
This class was great and I learned a lot even for it being online. I got a B by just reading the notes provided by the professor. There are three tests and one extra credit assignment. He cares about his students and their questions. He also sent out weekly announcements stating cool stuff happening in the universe that week!
When class starts all of the notes are already posted. Your grade is based on four exams that are all based on the textbook. Honestly, I didn't use the textbook I just used the study questions and I did just fine. Easy class, just don't miss any of the exams!
Pretty easy, just 3 exams on the reading and 2 extra credit opportunities. As long as you read and maybe go through the elaborative materials he puts in the modules, youll likely have an easy time in this class. Never had to really reach out outside of class, but he seemed really nice so I recommend!
Professor Goldwater seems very enthusiastic about astronomy but doesn't make the online class very fun. We were only graded on 1 quiz and 3 exams with a couple of extra credit assignments, which I am not a fan of. Nevertheless, the class was a breeze and I had no problems with it at all.
This was a fun 6 week summer class. 3 tests, 1 extra credit and a syllabus quiz. If you are NOT interested in the subject, do not take this class. There IS a lot of reading but it is very informative and super interesting. I took notes on each chapter and that made the tests pretty easy. Prof Goldwater is very nice and responds to emails quickly.
Prof. Goldwater is a solid teacher. I can say this you need to read the book and take notes the 3 exams are tough without reading. He does provide review sheets for each exam I would fill them out there long. If you want an A read, notes if not you can skim the book and pass with a C. There's extra credit he is available on chat if you need assist.
Nothing really too crazy to be said its professor Goldwater hes great and has a good sense of humor! There was 3 exams and they were about 70 questions and gave you an hour thirty. All of it is rather easy and just by basic knowledge was able to walk away with a b! Super good professor and if you need help at all hes there to give it!
I'm so glad I took this class. I got A's on all the exams just by reading his notes and doing his review questions. I didn't even read the textbook because most of the info is in his notes/lectures. The questions on the exams are straightforward too (no tricks). Overall solid choice. He has a funny personality and passion for AST. Take his class.
OMG what can I say about Prof. Goldwater other than that he's amazing? His lectures are super entertaining and funny and he presents the material in a way that makes a whole lot of sense. I would take him again and again, if I could. Definitely one of my favorite professors ever.
This professor is awesome. His lectures are very funny and as long as you write down the notes or at least read them you're set. There are only 3 tests and they are a direct copy and paste from the notes so they are fairly easy. Everything is also really nicely organized which is always helpful.
Professor Goldwater is a great professor and I highly recommend him for AST 104. There is quite a bit of reading but you can get away with not reading all of it. The class has about 4 assignments and 3 of them are major exams. The exams are graded out of 75 points and what you get on them determines your grade in the class.
3 exams. A lot of of notes and the study guides are nothing like the exam
He's the best! He offers EC, and makes his lessons clear, simple, and accessible. He has a wonderful sense of humor that shines through in his lectures and passion for the subject. Print EVERY study guide (additional/optional ones too) and listen CAREFULLY to each lecture as you fill them out. Each question on the exams can be found in the guides!
Professor Goldwater is super funny and passionate! This is the easiest science class I have taken, only because he made everything easy to comprehend. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go, you will not get anything. Class is mostly lecturing, and the grade is made up of only three exams, but do the practice exams, they're the exact same.
There's only 3 exams and an entering quiz. Study his prerecorded lectures and notes for exams. The study guides helps with exams too. Didn't use the textbook. Interesting and fun class just put in the time.
This is a difficult class, but as long as you watch the lessons and study before taking the test. You will be fine, he does give extra credit but it requires you to go to an event. (the event requires a ticket, which he will provide) The class is straightforward, nice professor, I never had any issues with him.
3 exams. When it comes time to do the exams you have 3 days to complete it. There's also an option for extra credit where you go to the planetarium to take notes and get a sig. I found the textbook online for free and didn't pay for it. Didn't really study for the tests either and got an 89%; I didn't do the extra credit.
Take this class, very easy 3 exams like every 3 weeks and that's about it. There is a textbook you have to read but you can pass without it. The professor is very nice makes announcements and gives opportunities for extra credit.
(ONLINE) No homework. For this class, you will have 4 exams. He has a calendar and a very organized canvas to follow his recommended schedule. If you don't read you will not pass the exams. This is not a class where you slack and look up the answers on the exam. He mostly pulls questions from his material. Very passionate about what he teaches!
103 I had IRL classes (attendance not mandatory) and 104 online. You do NOT need to buy the book but one is used. Literally just write down the class notes and do the study guide document he gives out before exams and you are golden(water). Very nice guy, dad jokes but nice. Class has no assignments, just 3 exams (70 questions). Take it. GGEZ
Just 3 exams no homework, If you miss a lecture you are screwed without notes if you didn't purchase the book. You don't need the book but don't miss the class he doesn't put the slides anywhere, and his lectures are amazing. I just had to drop the class due to being overwhelmed with work.
Goldwater is one of my top 3 professors I've taken so far at this college. He's absolutely amazing, willing to help his students succeed, and gets really excited when his students ask him questions about the course content. He also gives extra credit for watching a Observatory show. There are three exams, but he gives you time to read the book.
His online class is fantastic. No assignments, just three tests, all based on the material in the textbook. It's a lot of reading, but he lets you use your notes/a cheat sheet on the tests and gives plenty of review material and extra credit opportunities. Highly recommend!
Professor Goldwater is great. 3 exams, no homework assignments. He also gives you the opportunity to do extra credit, which requires going on campus. He's a very fair professor. Do the readings, read his notes in the modules (they're fun notes), and you'll do fine on the exams. Great class to take with a difficult load of classes.
I took his Astro 104 class in the spring online. He does require a textbook. Though he was an amazing professor as he posted summaries of what we would have learned from the textbook and study guides for upcoming test. He did only grade 3 assignments which were all exams but he also offered extra credit for certain events.
I LOVE PROFESSOR GOLDWATER! I was so not looking forward to taking an Astronomy class because I am terrible at science. However, this class was so simple and amazing. Only 3 tests and no assignments. Lots of extra credit opportunities. As long as you study you will do great. Definitely take his course if you want an easy A. (Plus he is so funny)
Easiest class I've ever taken. Only an introduction assignment and three tests, so just do some light studying before the test and you're likely fine
I read the textbook for the first two weeks and then stopped. I didn't really need it. The class was very easy and I learned a lot. The professor is also very accommodating and caring. He responds to emails in a timely manner.
Professor Goldwater is an amazing teacher who makes the material engaging and accessible. The class is manageable if you keep up with the readings and attend the lectures. unstuck ai was a big help for exam prep.
This class consisted of three exams, 70 questions each. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Tests are easy if you study and follow the modules. He gives you lots of time and resources to prepare for each test and is always happy to answer questions. He makes the class fun and interesting, and is passionate about Astronomy. Highly recommend.
Absolutely the best class I have taken to date, the class was so organized and is incredibly fun at the same time. Very few assignments and a quick study before each test and your good to go. The professor is extremely passionate about the subject as well and that just makes the class even better place. Even doing it online still a solid 10/10.
This was an easy class, just need to do a bit of reading from the book and read/watch the lectures posted. He offers extra credit which is to watch shows on campus. Professor Goldwater has 3 exams, 1 assessment, and 1 entering quiz. Great teacher! Highly recommend!
Easy class, no assignments just 3 exams and he does give students opportunities to earn extra credit by attending a planetarium show on campus. There is a textbook you need but I didn't really use it and I was still able to pass. As long as you study from the modules/notes you'll be okay on the exams. You won't regret taking his class.
Easy A, nice professor
Total of 3 exams, 0 assignments whatsoever no homework at all, provides many resources, lots of notes, great class, and easy A. Would recommend it is the least stressful class ever!
Very sweet professor and the least stressful class ever. Graded on only 3 easy exams, no homework. The textbook can be purchased on Pearson, and his supplemental review questions in the modules completely prepare you for the exams. 2 ec opportunities, including attending a fun planetarium show, but not necessary.
Only 3 exams, 70 questions each, no homework, did not buy the textbook. Very easy class to take if it is required to complete your major, and when you're taking other classes with a heavier workload.
Professor Goldwater was responsive and clear with his expectations. This class was one of the easiest classes I've taken at CSN and I would recommend this professor and class to other students. There wasn't any homework only three exams and opportunities for extra credit as well.
