He's an okay professor. exams are a bit weird, but not hard. (fill in blanks) a bit boring sumtimes.. slow.. funny walk. low vioce, tell him to speak louder. takes his time, wastes time.. not too bad.
The absent-minded-professor. He'll review for an exam and then put none of the information he reviewed on the exam. Not good at answering questions. I don't think he has ever looked in the text book, because he can never find what he's looking for and hsi lecture often disagrees with it. ????????
Hi is a good professor, a little absent minded, but makes things simple and interesting. He likes to have the students figure out a lot of the answers for themselves, which is kind of cool.
easy A. u can spend like 2 hours before the exam and study and get 100s
Prof.Gosser is the first professor,in all my years of study, whose review for exams correlate with the actual exams.I appreciated that.I also appreciated the intro he gave to each of his lectures. If one listens carefully, one finds that he summarizes his points very well. Hint:Sit in the front class!
I don't think he wants to teach. He mumbles the whole period and prepares for his lecture by asking to see a student's textbook and then stares at the blackboard for 10 minutes. Avoid him.
Very disorganized and unclear.
the guy gets mad for no reason. Forgets things. do not take him if you need basic understanding of the material. He cannot teach.
this guy should not be teching in any college ever
I've had this teacher for 2 semesters now, and he has not improved as a teacher in that time. For months he'll go on unrelated tangents and only really teaches right before exams. BUt he'll tell you exactly what will be on the exam. If you're a "by-the-textbook" student, find a different teacher or you'll be miserable and confused like I was.
Sucks , he teaches half the materials, then let the workshop teaches the quarter, u learn by ur self the last quarter. he doesnt' know how to explain. he review for the final, but not the materials in the final
Real easy... if you want an easy A, hes the one. he duz not like to make the exams tough... just likes to mek sure u have an overall understanding. really into his stuff.. pay attention.. n ull undrstnd wat hes saying.. if u dont.. u can still get an A. -jus do practice problems.
If you have another option take advantage of another option! Just it's not a lot of fun in his class and not a lot of chem too! He seems too tired of all of studends and teaching! But it's easy to get a good grade, so decide!
He may be a nice guy, but he is a TERRIBLE Prof!!!!! One of the worst I have ever had. He just doesn't care. He is unprepared to teach and wastes everyone's time. His exams are not too bad if you teach yourself the material and can get through all the typos. I would NOT advise taking his class if you really want to learn chem 104!

I am a Computer Science major, so I did not care much about Chemistry. You will not learn anything from him. So, if you need to understand Chemistry for your major, then stay away, but if you're like me, just want to get the course off your back, then he is not that bad. He is an easy grader and exams are not that hard.
I think that although he has been teching chemistry for 30 years, he needs to wake up and figure out a way to relay the information properly, and also give the tests on a balance of all chapters coverd, not just one chapter. if you love your GPA, i don't think you should take him.
not only the guy doesn't bother to explain the matereal clear, he finishes his class 15 minutes earlier. If you used to study on your own - he is for you, but forget about getting extra knowledge. He might be a great researcher, but to be fair to the students,he definitly should not teach.
very horrible guy, hope no one will ever takes his class. he is very horibble and give six questions worthing a lot of points, once u get two questions wrong, you already fail the test.
Not a good teacher. If you can teach yourself his tests are fair, if you need your hand held STAY AWAY!!
he is a professor, in fact. but his lecture missed many points that were important. he would give studentd a review before exams and final and posted the answers on the blackboad. he is very responsible. but students have to adjust him.
He is a good prof. i am taking analy chem with him right now and i think that he is great, may not be the best at explaining but tries to help alot. And i can safely say that i have been learning alot in his class!!!
He's wutz upppppppppp! very cool.
He's the worst of all. He may be slightly useful to like phd student, but to chem 103 student, he's ridiculusly useless. If you read the book, do the chapter questions, go to tutoring on your own, you will not learn a thing, let alone acing the tests.
RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!
He's the worst of all. if u live without regret, he'll be ur first reason. He's no use, U won't learn a thing, his tests are easy in the sense that, he gives review sheet prior to the test. He has his own book and own material. so make sure u ask him to give his materials.
he is the worse prof. he does not know how to explain and his classes are so boring. he does not care about students.
he is one of the worst professors i've ever had. He used our class as lab rats for his textbook that he is writing. We were supposed to have 3 tests then at the last min he dropped it to two test, on top of that he decided not to drop any grades. Tests are easy if you can understand what he is asking. Even workshop leaders do not recoment him.
I Cant understand him at all he teaches himself all the time he never wants to write the information
Gosser is the man!
This guy is easy. It was my second time taking the class. Take it if its your second time....if its your first time you're going to have to study on your own alot.
This Prof. Is horrible you need to study everything on your own....he cant teach!! He make simple problem to be so complicated....To do good in this class you need to rely on the leader(tutor) to much...N good luck!!! Some of the tutor dont know what they are doing!!!!
HE IS JUST EASY PROFESSOR,HIS TACHING DIDN'T HELP MUCH, READ THE BOOK,ALWAYS TYPO ON NOTES & GRADING MISTAKE ON ALL THE EXAMS, IF U CAN TAKE OTHER PROFESSOR, DO IT, U CAN'T LEARN ANYTHING HERE
He is like one of the worst professor ever! First of all it is a big classroom and his voice is too low so you can't hear him at all. You may want to sit in the front. He doesn't really explain the material that well, but he goes over them so quick. If you don't understand something you have no chance of getting it from him. You best go to recitation professor.
Oy...
I learned a lot from his. He made me like chemistry!!! One negative he is disorganized, but he really cares about students and tries to explain everything by breaking it down into basics. Very easy class. If you pay attention and follow his train of thought you can learn a lot from his lectures, and he tests exactly what he covers in class.

Try to avoid this professor, he's very difficult to understand, you have to teach yourself!! the workshop doesn't help. you have to work very hard to get a good grade
he was easy in the fact that you understood him for the most part but he doesnt know how to teach and he tries to compensate for it by giving extra pts. but the only thing i didnt enjoy was that he used a departmental final rather than his own when he knew that he skiped parts in the syllabus so we were left hanging basically...i dunno, he's nice
His tests are kinda easy and he gives extra points at the end of the semester. he does not really know how to teach. The best thing to do is to study on ur own and come to class for some attendance quizes, take his tests. That was how i got A+
He knows his stuff, but has a hard time explaining the material. his exams are really easy. attendance is not mandatory, but he gives some problems to solve in class so he can take attendance. i learnd more i workshop. if you want to pass easily take gosser, if u want to really learn chemistry take some other professor
if u dont mind teachin urself chemistry, then this class is 4 u but if u need a decent professor who knows how 2 teach, then run like its the plague. goin 2 lecture is useless. half the stuff he puts on the quizzes is either irrelevent (who cares about aristotle n quintessence?), not in the txtbk or doesnt go over it. I end up googl-ing the answers
stupid annoying class but was actually an easy B when it came down to it
He knows his stuff, but when it comes to teaching he just can't perform. He does give a lot of extra credit for tests and stuff, but if you really want to understand and learn chemistry, then I DO NOT recommend him...believe me you'd understand if you had him!
I never took chem once in my whole life until this class. I could have learned more if I'd paid attention in the beginning but my lack of background made it too hard to keep up. Never touched the textbook. No syllabus, one quiz and then a final. Class was just a time killer. Take him if you want easy credits but be ready to self-study and be bored.
This guy is incorrigible. He didn't teach anything and then expected the students to know not just the answers to the questions we did, but all the correct procedures to solve the problems too. I'm a 3.9 student and I got a C in this class. STAY AWAY if U care about U're GPA!
Will come to class late at times, leaves important parts of concepts out of lecture, tests are easy to average, I learned more from the peer workshop, & he teaches at a sluggish pace. If you're majoring in chem or chem engineering do not take him because you'll get off on the wrong foot and will have to play catch-up in chem 104.
Good intentions, but Its very hard to hear him speak unless you sit in the first 3 rows of the lecture hall. I learned most of the material from the workshops and labs once a week. He finishes lecture early, and leaves out some important concepts and helpful tools. If you seek easy A, Gosser is your man. But if you want to learn, stay away from him
Generally, his lectures were pointless to attend although he did take attendance a few times. I learned most of the material through the workshops and the online homework he gave. His tests are very similar to the review sheets he gives out before each exam so if you study those carefully, it's very easy to get a good score.
He only gives a 10 question quiz, a paper, and an easy final if you know your basic chemistry. He doesn't teach all that great, If you want an easy A for a perspective course, take him but prepared to be bored. If you want to major in Chem, find another Professor.
One of the smartest guy on campus. Lots of student take advantage of his kindness. Really good guy. Will take him again
I often wonder why he's still teaching chemistry given how terrible he is at doing it. I just refused to go to lectures (except for exams) after the first few weeks because you learn NOTHING! If you take him do yourself the favor and teach yourself chemistry. That was the only way I got an A- . You'll thank yourself later when you take CHEM 104.
Took Professor David Gosser for general elective requirements for science. Funny professor, but can't teach. Lecture-based class, with TA's. Read the textbook if you must, but the class is just a basic in-depth overview of Chemistry. Light background in math and science experience will benefit you. Early pop quizzes, so don't be late!
He did not teach a thing in class. I left the class knowing less then I did going in. He uses a text book that he wrote himself, which is filled with typos and errors. Horrible experience. Don't take him unless you absolutely have to.
EASY! EASY! EASY! Just seek helps from TA
Cool dude, but I took him for a analytical Chem based class that revolves around measuring the effectiveness of workshop leaders in CCNY, so I can't judge him from a GenChem/PChem type of view. He's genuinely super kind and wants his students to pass. Kinda boring though, but definitely a smart, well rounded dude.
I am taking this class this semester. He did not know how to teach and what to teach. Always out of topics. I want to learn some basic chemistry from him. But his TA is more helpful and clear than him. He even did not put a reserved textbook in the library and the book was written by himself. He just wanted us to buy I guessed.
If you need this information for a more advanced class or grad school exam, don't take him. If you are paying for this class out of pocket over the summer or winter, don't take him. He seems like a kind person but his teaching skills are severely lacking and he is very disorganized.
He's very chill and nice. He gives pop quizzes in class but its on the web so you get to use your electronic device (woohoo). He does give extra credit for test if you felt you did horrible, take that as an opportunity guys! He's very understand and caring if you need extra time and ask, do the basics and you should not fail at any cost.
This was such an easy class! He's extremely nice, gives extra credit, and had a review session. He barely assigned any work at all I highly recommend this class
If you want an easy A, take this class. He is very knowledgeable, but cannot teach at all and you'll waste your time showing up. He'll most likely mess up your grade at the end of the semester and take 7 months to change it like he did to me. I literally needed to email him every single day to change it, after he told me he already did. He lied.
Do not take him. Gave 1 midterm and 1 final project and that's your grade. No review for the midterm, strange "fill in the blanks" format for the midterm, and little to no direction for the final project. Not to mention, he didn't even tell us we weren't having a final exam until the day before the end of finals week. Thought this would be easy. No
I needed a easy science class since its a requirement but not part of my major. Honestly, this class was easy and manageable thank goodness. The professor was really nice and made sure his students were not heavily work loaded. He gives online quizzes,1 midterm, notes collection, and a final group project. I enjoyed his class and would take again:)
He's literally the worst professor ever. Only gave one test that counted as the midterm, didn't even warn us about a final group project until 2 weeks before the semester ended and that counted as the final. Can't teach for his life. Also waited 2 months after the semester ended for him to put in my grade. And the sub was better for those 2 times.
Only take him if you have taken AP Chem in high school or had prior experience with college Chem. He does not teach. He gave three exams which were very easy and exactly like the reviews. However he did not prepare us at all for the department final (which is doable if you self study). If your major requires chem 104, dont take him!
He can't lecture. Taught myself the whole semester. Just use his practice exams, and old finals, you'll pass. But if you want to actually learn don't take him
He's so boring. He supposedly has a life-long passion of chemistry but is hopelessly unable to express it with his class. I never want to show up to class, I rather stay home and sleep through it. You will learn close to nothing from him. Just like most other professors at CCNY. It's an abomination. I actually expect to go to class and learn.
This is one of the worst professor I've ever taken. He doesn't know how to teach at all. He doesn't explain anything even if you ask for help. Pretends to care but doesn't. Gives quiz online which doesn't makes any sense. Don't take if you want to save your GPA.
STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!! worst professor in CCNY and ruined my GPA my freshman year of college. He gave us a final that had nothing to do with what we learned all semester and everybody failed. Nice guy but extremely boring
Easy A class. He gives you EVERYTHING you need to pass. Review sheets are the same as exams. Nothing more to it. Not much homework given, but light reading at times. I suggest sitting in the first 5 rows so you can focus better and actually see and hear him (depends on the room). You can pass if you know basic math and give decent effort.
no homework, review sheet is exam, no attendance but he mentions things in class you need to know. all information needed is on his website. Need to pass the tests. He gives extra credit for each exam. He is passionate but does not teach well. Had him in an 80 person lecture and was very bored. Taught myself, barely showed up.
Dont take him if you dont have to! I advise you to save yourself a headache and look for a better teacher whos more organized and has actual lesson plans. His classes never seem to follow any order. He just rambles on and off about different things and jumps from topic to topic. Easy class but very frustrating having to hear him talk for an 1hr.
I still dont have any idea what majority of my grades were... BORING BOOOOOORING
I just saw some rough comment here. I couldn't but come here to let you all know that he is so kind. I missed some deadlines for some of my assignments due to studying for the MCAT. I also missed his classes for like a month. He let me catch up through his recordings and is very understanding.
Take him and just try to make some efforts and you are good to go. He is a very lenient grader and very considerate about deadlines. JUST TAKE HIM.
Was a complete waste of time! He spent the whole semester teaching R coding. The class is supposed to be about QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS. Finally when he did talk about chem it was about long boring articles that he didnt bother going into further detail in. Labs were ontopic but because he never discussed anything in class it was confusing. Stay away
Idk why there's so much hate, but Professor Gosser is amazing and tries his best to make sure each student can take something out of the course. He tries to engage with everyone and gives very few assignments.
Please don't take this class it a waste of time He doesn't grade any work.I had to email the head of the science department about my grade because I haven't have a grade for his class. I have only quiz and few assignments he gave us. It was an online class I took.U will waste your time and waiting months to know what u got in his class.
Gosser is very nice and does not tend to give his students too much work to do. For a 4 credit class, is it probably one of the easiest 4 credit class you'll ever take. However, the class has very little structure to the curriculum and none of us knew our grades at all in the class until he finally posted them at the end of the semester.
IF YOU SEE THIS PROFESSOR RUN THE OTHER WAY! old man has no idea how to use zoom, class was a circus, no grades until the end of the semester & even after doing everything he asked us to do, and getting an A in 3/4 assignments gave me a bad grade FOR NO REASON
Please avoid taking any class with this professor; he doesn't know how to use technology at all. He struggles with using zoom and brightspace, doesn't know how to properly distribute grades, and he's INCREDIBLY unclear with assignments. If you take his class, you'll survive. His class is just an unbelievable inconvenience and waste of time. L prof.
He's a nice professor, he seems passionate to teach the class, but the structure is mess. HE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO USE TECHNOLOGY, but the lack of communication to the students makes the class harder. If you take the class for credits I RECOMMENDED, but if it's to LEARN DONT TAKE IT!!!
he is hard as a professor. unclear assignment directions and he is very very bad with technology. couldn't really learn anything but needed the credit. it's tolerable if you need the credit but frustrating. upsetting
