Cool Professor and really down to earth.
Dave's rad. He may be addicted to caffiene, and will burn you once in a while.

Snappy dresser.
Helpful, snappy, funny and sexy
Dresses chic, java perpetually in his hands, and ready to teach. Awesome.
Great teacher, the best english prof I've had

Excellent teacher. An excellent person. But, he'll kill me if he sees these sentence fragments.
pretty good teacher uhhuh uhhuh
David is the most thorough and detailed English instructor I've had. Long, useful notations on essays. He'll whip comma splices out of you if he can! Superb at enabling class discussion. If you don't like participating, don't waste this class!
Good professor, knows his stuff. Didn't help me much because I am a total doofus when it comes to english and grammer.
Excellent teacher! His lectures are informative and well structured. He is really funny sometimes too! Everyone will remember the "Look, I have a colon!" incident! I was dreading this class, but I ended up loving it.
I loved Dave, we had a really fun class. I am glad he came here from "Down East" get yourself some new shoes man, you're worth it!
He seems like a nice guy and is helpful in class
The class is informative but Professor Grants forced discussions and group work really top the cake. It is amazing to hear what other people think and how totally off the mark they can be. However Professor Grant is a true diplomat and never lets anyone feel stupid....even if he should
Dave is a great teacher. Wish I could take more courses w/him, but alas, my time at GMCC is up, and I must move on to the U. If only Dave taught there too! He's v. helpful, insightful, his classes are great, even at 8 am ^_^. He actually lets you THINK! Wow.
Took two courses with him and it changed my life. 3 years later and I am finnishing up my Masters degree in English. As nice a guy as you will ever meet. His teaching stile depends on the engagement of his students, so a good group will have a good class.
I hate english but Grant made it fun to come to class all year long. Would recommend him as a prof to everyone. Marks fair and does not overload you with tons of work. Great Prof!!
He's great. A little too much US literature for my liking, but hey, there's a lot of US literature. He will never tell you what is right or wrong, though. This must be tough for the weaker students that grossly misinterpret stories.
He is a good teacher, his classes doesn't have that much stress since there is not tons of homework or essay due in very short time. He is helpful to students, just go find him whenever you need help.
I'm surprised at how many good ratings he got. I found his classes rather dull, and that he was a little intimidating at first. I remember first coming to that class and him writing little comments in his book about each student after they commented.
Very easy going and not as tighted assed as the rest of the english profs. He isnt hard, so if you do your work, there is absolutely no way you can fail his class, trust me.
Classes are really, really boring but he is a nice guy. Marks essays very fairly. Hates Comma Splices!!
I liked him! He was a nice guy, just pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
i liked this class. i am not an english buff but he still made it interesting and if you put effort into what he teaches you then you should do fine.
The prof seemed to be a timid, little man trapped in a big man's body, however, he is a very nice guy, is super polite, and seems to take things in good humor. My particular class was rather dull on account of a lack of participation. Classes went well when people paid attention.
He is amazing. As long as you participate and do the essays on time, you will have no problem. Try to get into his class if you can it will be worth your time. I've heard horror stories about the other english profs and I'm so glad that I had david as my teacher.
David is a great prof. Make sure you do the readings, make sure that you show up for class, and make sure that you discuss things. Even if you sound stupid, he will use what you say to build an argument. He is a stickler for grammar and he will give you great constructive criticism for your papers. His door is always open.
Extremely boring class. You read books and then talk about them all class. He is a very nice guy but he is boring. Provides 10 essay questions usually for each essay, so you have a good number to choose from, he tries to mark fair but is not the easiest marker, your first essay mark will be suprsingly lower than in high school. He is an ok prof.
He is such a nice guy, he gives you essay topics well in advanced.. a tad bit boring at times.. but when is english not boring?
David is such a nice teacher. When you get essays back he writes a summary on everyones essay about what you did good and bad which helps alot. He gives you essay topics a head of time. Uses class time effectivly covers everything he needs to. good prof!
Very nice guy, and willing to help you if you ask for it. Class is very dull, its mostly read a book and then discuss it. He has quizzes on grammer which are easy and 4 essays total. He gives a list of topics so there are plenty to choose from. He is a fair marker, he understands that the first essay will not be the best. I would recommend him!
I really liked David. He is a super nice guy, easy to talk to and explains and re explains things until you understand. He wants you to do good
good informative helpfull
Great prof who is always willing to help with assignments! Lots of time to finish essays and other papers and quizs were simple just go to the class that he does the worksheets on them.
Dr. Grant is one of the nicest professors at the school! He is very patient and always willing to help; he wants his students to succeed. It's easy to do well in this course just as long as you attend most of the lectures and pay attention. Dr. Grant is always willing to meet with students outside of class for help, too, so don't hesitate to ask.
David is a very smart guy but a very dull teacher. He put me to sleep. He expects everyone to participate so if no one does, it's a very quiet and long class. Always willing to help his students out. Hard hard marker. I would not recommend him, but he's not the worst teacher out there.
Dr.Grant is Super Nice. He is Very clear in lecture and explains things so well! He is a totally fair marker. Doesn't pick on people when asked to volunteer. If no one does he either answers or he moves on.Very helpful outside of class. Class is dull but it's English! Did pretty good in his class even though I hate English. Totally Recommend Him!
He is a very nice guy! His lectures are very clear and he is more then willing to help out his students. He also picks great literature for his American Lit class.
BORING!! The most dull and boring class you will experience. Do not recommend!
Fair marker, great at starting discussions. I had surgery halfway though the semester and he allowed me a one month extension on my paper! Very understanding and brings forward compelling arguments.
David is one of the most helpful teachers I have ever had the pleasure of having. He makes classes interesting by involving each and every student and making sure that we all contribute our opinions in class. He is incredibly kind and trusting, and will not hesitate in taking that extra step towards you getting a better grade! Best!
The class is very easy, however attending the lectures was SO BORING. Very fair marker and helpful though. Just be sure to come on the grammar quiz days!
This guy's great. Helpful, fair marker.
As a person that HATES english I actually enjoyed coming to class. I learned a lot including how to read stories effectively, which is very useful. I have had bad english teachers in the past and I was nice to finally have a good one, especially for my last english class ever.
Great teacher, recommeded for English! He is frendly and very helpful!
He was very helpful and a great teacher. I learnt a lot and actually enjoyed going to class. He is a fair marker, gives great feedback and is very helpful both during and outside of class.
Fair marker, though seems to mostly give out an average of 70. Quite helpful and clear on what he expects, and classes are generally not too boring. Pretty good prof overall.
Great prof. Very helpful in class and during office hours. For a person that wasn't very fond of English, his teaching style was very helpful and clear. I have him again this semester for 103!
He's a really good prof. Clearly discuss what he expects you to write on your essay and how to write it.
Easily the best professor I have ever had. He's always perfectly on time with the material, but I still feel like we have covered everything. Loved this class and I'm going out of my way to take more courses with him.
class was relatively easy , attendance necasary as he marks class participation, marks essays fairly easy but not supper easy (Avg) - however if you come to class and participate and read the material its not difficult to do fairly well
Although his class may seem boring, if you pay attention you will actually learn quite a bit, and his marking is fair. Very kind.
BORRINGGG!!! Half way through the semester i had no interest in attending the class. Grant is very monotone and boring you could fall asleep. stay awaay!!
Attending class is mandatory. Prepare for reading assignments and be ready for quizzes, which are pretty easy.
Coming from a Science student, he is a great prof. Isn't a super hard marker like typical English profs. Actually TEACHES you. A little awks, but he is very nice and helpful.
Not a hard marker, very understanding teacher. Could've finished with a higher mark if i attended class more.I would recommend him for english 102!
Grant is a great prof. He has kind of high expectations for his papers but gives the best feedback and is so helpful that you do well in his class if you take the feedback into account and ask him to clarify things. RECOMMEND!
David Grant is a gem of a man. He is fabulous at facilitating class discussions, and encouraging students to explore their thoughts in a safe environment when commenting on a text. David is also quite understanding, should you have an overloaded schedule. "That is," he will grant extensions if you present a valid excuse.
Dr.Grant is a fantastic prof, who seems to really enjoy the material he is teaching. He is very passionate about the literary works, and attempts to explain it as clear as possible. Even though I didn't enjoy English, he made the work really fun and interesting lectures. However he marks essays with high expectations, but giving good feedback.
Easy A. Pros: he gives you 5 quizzes for a total of 10%, SUPER easy to do and boost your mark & he gives you mock quizzes before each one. He marks fairly and takes the time to read and give good feedback. Cons: pretty monotone, but he is a sweet man. :) not always clear on what he expects but if you ask hell explain way better. Would take again!
I really liked his class! I ended up loving some of the texts we had to read for class. His lectures are can get a tad dry on a bad day but were mostly pretty good. Never had to see him outside of class; he was very good at making things clear.
Overall he is a good prof. His lectures in class are a little hard to follow and his expectations for essays was unclear. He is a fairly easy marker though and is always more than willing to help and give you some good feedback. Quizzes were more than fair and quite easy.
I found that his lectures were hard to follow and they didn't seem to ever connect to what we were doing. He jumps around a lot, and his expectations for assignments aren't very clear. Although, if you do go to him for help he is more then willing to do so.
Took engl 102 more seriously than many other profs which was probably helpful to many students who were struggling a bit more. Felt comfortable asking him questions at any time and he made sure he received your assignments and that you knew they were submitted. Pretty great prof even though he may seem somewhat dull at first.
David is dull though you can tell he has a passion for it. His marking is fair and he seems really open to each persons writing and gives feed back on your assignments. Little unclear on his criteria or expectations though. Reading: a must. He likes to discuss in class and do little group activities which means minimal participation and presenting.
David is a very bland and boring prof. His lectures are uninteresting, his writing is terrible, and his teaching style is not effective. His class has participation marks and he's a tough marker. When returning essays, he provides little feedback on how to improve or why you received the mark you did. If you want a mark above 80%, avoid David.
Class's can be a bit dry, but he's there to help, and grades pretty easy. Essays however can have some pretty broad topics.
I took 102 & 103 with him. David is an amazing professor! He is very helpful, answers to emails very quickly and has a passion for literature. If you miss class and email him asking what you missed, he will tell you. He is a very fair marker coming from someone not stong in English. Definitely recommend!
He's a pretty good prof. I hate english but he made it easy to get through. Quizzes arent tough, he gives a week's notice. Only write 4 things for marks which he grades fairly.
Was boring at first but once I went to more classes he turned out to be a lot of fun
David is an earnest, nice guy who obviously likes the stuff he's teaching. He LOVES people who participate. Quizzes are easy, gives a week's notice and a worksheet the class before. Fair marker. Content is easy but boring. 3 essays, all under 1500 words. He's also really helpful if you miss a class and need to know what happened. Good prof.
David wasn't too clear when explaining things, he'd try to explain them in different ways but it just made it more confusing. Super nice guy though. A lot of people did really poorly on the grammar quizzes, but those were also the ones who never showed up to class. Probably take again.
He really likes when students participate in class. You must read what's assigned because it leads to a good discussion and allows you to learn. There are 3 assignments along with multiple quizzes but all fairly easy, he's a fair marker. I enjoyed his class and would gladly take a class of his again if the opportunity came up.
Definitely one of the best professors at Macewan. Conveys his enthusiasm for the material & makes his students excited to be there & learn. Always finds a way to bring up new information in different & interesting ways. You will never be bored in class. Always helpful during office hours. Never makes you feel foolish but makes you think critically.
He really likes discussion in books, if you do the assigned readings and have a bit of opinion you'll do fine. Very friendly and takes the time to learn your name.
I really liked Dr. Grant, he's very transparent in his expectations for assignments and is very approachable and helpful. If you struggle with english I would recommend him, he is always very respectful of people's comments in class and is not a tough marker like some of the other english prof's at macewan.
The lectures are very fun and he passes on the clear feedback on all assignments. I wish people contributed more in class discussions because he has a lot of great things to say.
Very easy going guy. Not a fan of English, and he made it a bit more bearable. Would recommend to take ENGL with this prof. Great guy who loves what he is teaching.
His writing is terrible, very hard to read
While not quite what I expected I did enjoy this class. he readings are very manageable, and all textbooks are easily available. He knows his stuff and genuinely enjoys hearing your opinion! Confusing grading system, couldn't (not wouldn't) clarify his feedback when asked, which wasn't helpful. But easy tests. READ EVERYTHING, and you're golden.
Pretty much the quintessential English Prof. He loves what he teaches, although he does sound monotone. You have to do that readings or you'll have no reason to be in class. He loves people's feedback and lets students lead the discussion on what they find interesting. Average workload. Decent tests. He's very shy, but get him 1 on 1, he's great!
One of the best professors at Macewan. Would definitely take another class with him.
I have a hard time in English already and was told to take it with David because he is an easy marker, which he is but he DOESN'T explain anything. I was confused the entire semester and had no clue what I was supposed to do. He will call on you in class discussions but won't take the answer idk. Would not recommend for anyone who struggles in ENGL
If you struggle in English or simply don't enjoy it, take David. He's really caring and wants you to learn. Math and chemistry double major, never was good at English, averaged 70% in high school, David actually made this class interesting and made me a better reader/writer. Received A-.
great prof!! who seems to truly care about students and their opinions. Also he tries to learn everyones name which is nice.
Literally the most confusing prof ever... he gives no direction regarding class work and makes you participate in group work constantly. Absolutely terrible.
I have learned absolutely nothing this term so far as he does not convey knowledge at all. His instructions are always very unclear. 2 short essays And no midterm. Get marked on participation w/ lots of group work
Great Prof, who cares about his students
He doesn't really lecture, he just wastes half the class writing things on the white board and then putting us in groups to discuss said things. He does not always seem to have a coherent train of thought and I often wonder how he got a PhD
It seems like he often has no idea what he is talking about. He wastes class time. He does not teach much at all. There are 2 papers; he is not a super difficult marker. This class is a waste of time
One of the nicest profs ever and very passionate about English. He encourages a lot of class discussion and really listens to his students.
It is a literature course, so you just read what he tells you and then the class discusses it. In other words, it is pretty boring and seems like a waste of time, but since English is necessary, David was a fantastic choice because he genuinely cares about his students. He marks leniently, so if writing isn't your strong suit, I'd recommend him!
I took David for engl 102 and 103. He is an easy marker. He is very kind and easy to approach. He makes english bearable and interesting.
Dr Grant is a fantastic prof. He is very down-to-earth and kind, making him exceptionally approachable. His lectures are interesting, and this course in particular was enjoyable. There is a lot of reading involved, so in order to participate in class, you need to do the readings. He is always willing to help where you need, and his grading is fair.
I was worried at first in this class with the number of books we were going to read, but each book was amazing! Dr. Grant is passionate about the texts and his knowledge of them is extensive and impressive. He takes the time to know your name which shows he respects his students, he respects you and your ideas and opinions. Definitely recommend him
Professor Grant does a great job keeping English simple. If you're in sciences or struggle with English, I highly recommend Professor Grant. He helps you write better, specifically in academic writing that you can apply. Also, I skipped like sooo many classes and it hardly affected me. Class can be boring, but it is pretty insightful.
He's a very nice professor. He grades you kindly if you show a little bit of effort during class. The lectures can be dry and not cover much, but he takes note on participation. If you missed a class that had a quiz, he was flexible about rescheduling it. Lots of assigned reading, but you can get away with not actually doing it.
Professor Grant was overall very good. His lectures were somewhat dry and boring but you definitely learn some great things. If you visit him during office hours, he is more than willing to review your work with you and make sure you understand what you are doing. I would take him again in the future.
Grant is a very kind guy. His classes are very dry and sometimes boring but if you have any questions about projects he takes the time to help you. You do not need to show up to class and you do not need to do all the readings. But show up to class because there are quizzes and he does go the practice sheet before the quiz.
Dr. Grant is the sweetest prof you will ever have. His criteria is very clear and he makes things simple for students. He chooses really good readings and gives you all the tools to do your best on the final.
He makes English 101 a breeze.
Professor Grant is one of the kindest professors Ive had. He really cares about helping everyone, even the ones that dont bother to show up to most of the classes. He gives helpful feedback and always appears happy to answer questions.
Very kind prof, he truly cares about his students. Grammar quizzes were fairly easy and gives part marks, and he is a very easy and fair marker when it comes to essays and papers. Participation and attendance is not required. I would definitely take another class with dr grant!
The main texts covered in ENGL 361 were diverse and thought-provoking. Grant provides thorough feedback on assignments and is always available during his office hours. However, I found Grant rather pedantic, awkward and rigid in his teaching style and his grading. The final exam was really tough as he did a very poor job preparing students for it.
Professor Grant was very kind if you had any questions and was very transparent when it came to papers or in class quizzes. Attendance was not mandatory and he did post most things on blackboard which was very helpful. On top of that if there was something you missed, he is very good with replying to emails in order to help you out. Great prof
David Grant is a super caring and great English professor. He treats all of his students with great care and is one of the most understanding people I've met. Also, his grading is very fair and logical. Show up to his class, follow his tips and it's an easy pass! He made ENGL102 a total breeze.
Really nice guy. Hardly showed up to the class and still finished with a decent mark. Never used the textbook, He's very helpful and not too hard of a marker. His lectures are very boring and attendance is not mandatory
Extremely repetitive I could barely stay awake in class barely went to class expect on quiz days and to hand papers in. Easy A though
Hes so lovely! The nicest professor Ive had in my four years. He is a wonderful professor for 400 level seminar classes as he asks questions that actually do progress the conversation of the room. Hes a fair grader and he gives a lot of great feedback when marking. Highly suggest him as a professor!
i hated english so much, the lectures were dry but a very easy class if you remember all your high school english
