Extremely fair class, lots of discussion, with a very intelligent professor. The best part of the whole thing? His mustache.
Extremely Hard, treats his class as if all students are pol sc majors. Dont recommend him. Tests are even Harder!!
Really hard tests, but he grades papers easier. His class lecture is very unclear. Be prepared to read the Times and watch CNN all the time, he expects a lot of class discussion on current events.
His tests are really hard, take careful notes. His discussions are intresting. Just be prepared to read alot of New York Times articles for class (the articles are too bad, most of them bash Bush too)
Midterm and final is hard, as they are in all of his classes. As long as you take notes in class you will be fine! He is a great prof and is really fair in his grading policy. If you need help he will help you
1) He is really really really fair. Just talk to him. (2) He does give hard tests, all the information is in your notes so JUST GO TO CLASS! (3) He grades on a nice curve. (4) He is a fair paper grader.
he is one of the best teachers i have ever had at Hofstra. i would tell anyone to take his class....his tests are hard, but you don't need to buy the book, and if you can take good notes you'll do fine. and he really cares about the subject and students
Discussions that would normally seem interesting arent because of his monotone voice. You'll love the topics & can't wait to hear what the class is going to be about...until you actually show up and he puts you to sleep. Bring Coffee, eat sugar, Good Luck
This course is very interesting and Green makes it better with his dry humor. Caution...be prepared for a whole lot of NY Times reading and keep thorough notes on everything as his exams are in "mind numbing"(as he would put it) detail. I loved
Nothing difficult about his tests if you STUDY for them; they are straight from notes. He is quite nice and appears to be really interested in helping kids learn. Tip: Don't bother with the 80$ book, just show up for class and take notes on EVERYTHING.
Alot of stuff from NY Times. Essay tests, map tests, term papers. Didn't bother with attendance in my class.
Great man. Very approachable, many NY times readings but they do pertain to the course. Go to every class and take notes and his impossible tests will seem very possible.
good class, but his tests arent too easy...
He was the only professor that was worth my money and my time as a college student. He will encourage you to think and to understand the material. He is brilliant, and a great person in and out of the classroom
He's a nice guy but he expects a lot from his students and his tests are hard. A lot of readings too. Overall, not a bad class but get ready to do some hard work and only get like a B or a C for your efforts.
i dont understand why everyone on this site said he was a good teacher and interesting. he is really really boring. he treats the class as if people already know the answers. whatever he gives you on the study sheets ARE NOT ON THE TEST. NO EXAGGERATION
Great professor...can get boring, but knows so much...He can always answer your questions...If you're interested in the little minute fun facts of European governments, take him. I learned so much.
A truly brilliant man. A "must" for every Poli Sci major..Tons of reading. Take as many notes as possible during lectures. Test are difficult so be prepared. Most interesting and informative class I've taken thus far. The real thing.
Green is really smart, an effective lecturer, and loves to get into political discussions. One paper, no big deal. 2 tests that are challenging, but easily ace-able if you sit down and study for them for several hours.
PROFESSOR GREEN IS BORING & UNCLEAR. HE RAMBLES ON AND ON - IT'S LIKE SITTING WITH AN UNFUNNY BEN STEIN FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF.
Truly brilliant! Will you have to actually pick up a book for this class? Yes! Everything on his study sheets is on the test. He gives a review session on his day off as well to help everyone
He is a great teacher. I had him for 135 132 and an independent study. tests were very easy if you study the study sheetIfyou don't go to class and try to do the study sheet you won't do well. The only stuff on the test that isn't on the sheet are reading
Fantastic
Well, I took him again for IR. What can I say; he is an excellent educator that goes out of his way to help students that show interest in the course. Don't bother with the book. Everything on tests is from lectures; take good notes and study them!
Dr. Green is awesome. Very intelligent and a fair grader. pay close attention in class and you wont even need the book. Awesome personality and very approachable...youd want to have a beer with the guy.
Good at teaching, but allows too much time for class discussions that aren't part of the class material. Opinionated. Has a rep for tough exams, but midterm wasn't really that bad. Encourages participation.
Green is the man!He knows what he is talking about and if funny. No attendance policy, but you have to go to class. Tests are hard, you'll study for hours but he breaks it down so that you know what to study and what not too.His classes are worth taking though! You'll feel like a genius!
Awesome teacher, great guy. Kept class interesting even on some topics that may have not been that interesting. I liked his class so much that I took him again in PSC 135.
green is the man. no bullsh*t with him.
Awesome professor. Was not interested in politics until this class. Integrated the syllabus to work with the election. No attendance policy, but he has a review before the midterm and final where you can learn about anything you missed. Good review sheets too. Best professor I've had.
He is the best professor ever. He makes the class so interesting and fun. I loved his class it was great.
he is a the worse non hearted professor that talks talks and talks all day with no begigning and end
Professor is very left wing and states only one point of view when it comes to poltical science. Requires you to read a lot of left wing media and then grade you on it. Professor is very unobjective.
amazing lecturer..extremely knowledgable..he's like a walking talking book...TAKE
Wow, he knows his stuff. Take GREAT notes on everything he's saying, and you'll be fine. His tests arent easy, but it you take good notes and study them well, youll be fine. Book is no help except for clarifying a definition you might have missed
great prof/very informative class
What a wonderful professor. As long as you go to class and take notes you will do fine. He is also very helpful and just a really nice guy. I would recomend this class to anyone.

Best prof I've ever had...great guy...helpful with recommendations...TAKE HIS CLASSES!
Dr. Green is one of the most helpful, knowledgeable professors I have ever had. He is very fair, and creative in his facilitation of balanced class discussion. (Great eyes... great smile too!)
DREADFUL!!!!! he is so unbelievably boring, his lectures are difficult to sit through.
very left wing and makes it known.. very unprofessional esp. since hes trying to teach poli sci.. he brings his OPINIONS into the classroom.. when questioned about them, he became defensive and rude, typical i guess lol..aside from his views, boring
Wonderful lecturer, brilliant mind. Yes he is liberal and left leaning, so is most of the faculty here. The difference with Prof Green is that he backs up what he says. Listen and learn! He's the real thing. A tough class, take good notes and have good attendence. A must for any Poli Sci major.
Tests are difficult. But he makes classes interesting. Just take GOOD notes, on everything he says, not just what he writes on the blackboard
One of my favorite professors at Hofstra. He's a brilliant guy with a good sense of humor. He won't try to change your opinions, but you will think about politics in general differently after taking his class. Such a nice guy too. Tests are hard though
Great guy, great enthusiasm. Knows his stuff. One of the best professors in a deparments of great professors. Definitely take his classes.
he only has a midterm, paper and final. if u dont do so hot in the midterm u basically know what grade u r getting. his questions are very open to interpretation but in he onl looks for one answer so its hard to get entire credit per question. the news discussion the TA has at the beginning of every class go on for way too much time
i am in love with prof. green. he is so smart and so passionate about what he teaches...it's so sexy. anyway. his class isnt the easiest, but you will learn a lot and he def. keeps you engaged. dont worry about reading, except the newspaper articles he assigns. midterma dn final are tough, but he prepares you well, and two eay papers. TAKE HIM.
I took Prof. Green's American Politics class in the Fall of 2005 and was very dissapointed in how he taught the class. His basic theme was that Republicans/Conservatives are evil, while Democrats/Liberals are to be worshipped. As an independant myself, I was turned off to the course as I would have liked to hear a more objective view.
Rubbish
Dr. Green is a tough but fair professor. Go to class take good notes and just know the review sheet backwards and forwards and there is no way you can do bad. Don't bother with the book its a waste because he doesnt use it and maybe gives you one question from it on the exam...Paper wasnt that bad just make sense...Its all about the notes
cool prof. very knowledgeable. def has a liberal bent but thats typica; at hofstra. like one poster said b4 what u get on the midterm is basically ur grade for the course. The paper was a bit unclear and he grades on a curve that no one seems to understand. wouldnt take again.
The man..say no more..He knows his stuff backwards and forwards. He can provide many examples..tests reflect lectures. If you get the concepts, you get a good grade. Be careful, not for conservatives although he does try to wear a moderate hat in his lectures

stay away~!!!!!!!!!!!1
Loved him. Really fair grader and appreciates participation. Would take him for every class if I could. Def. has a liberal bias but isn't necessarily 'unfair' to other points of view. Def. take him
A really good guy who Is quite friendly and is a good teacher. He wants students to keep up on current events and loves to talk about them with you. He has a liberal bias but it did not bother me because he is open to other viewpoints in class. He helped me to be involved outside of class. I will definitely take his classes in the future.
I enjoyed this class for the most part. Prof. Green really knows his stuff and i learned a great deal about politics. The only negative I would say is at times his lectures/discussions were somewhat boring. Overall, however, I would take another one of his classes.
This guy sucked...i'm a moderate but his anti-republican bias is terrible. He teaches nothing and goes off on tangents about Republicans being terrible. He grades based primarily on pop-quizes based on news paper articles. He has an arrogance about him that makes you want to throw him into a wood-chipper. AVOID HIM!
Great Professor! Has a good sense of humor and knows a lot about his field. Tries to get you involved outside the classroom. His lectures are pretty informative most of the time. He wants to form a relationship with you outside of the class to help further your learning, which I think is a plus. Tests are fair but comprehensive. Good professor!
Interesting teacher. Very hard grader. Tests are hard and uses an odd curve. Class attendance is not mandatory but will only hurt you in the end. Interesting but teaches only what he wants to teach.
given that green is a liberal zealot with a hatred for conservatism, he's still a very good professor. his lectures are witty and on point. attending class and reading the textbook will get you a good grade. also keep in mind that you don't have to take him for PSC135. other professors teach it at different times so be sure to shop around.
Though Prof. Green is very liberal, he is an excellent teacher, and makes the class very interesting with outside guest speakers. He is very helpful and cares about his students. Study a lot for his midterm and final. I would recommend taking him for any class. Definitely a nice, good guy overall.
Best class/teacher I've had to date at Hofstra. I learned a lot on a topic I didn't think I would like. Definitely recommend this teacher!
Green is awesome. He's nice, he's funny and he's usually very fair when it comes to attacking both sides of the political aisle. He's incredibly liberal, but he's very critical of all politicians. Papers are extremely easy, but the midterm/final was very challenging. You cannot coast through his exams, he makes sure of it.
tests are based on notes. dont bother with the textbook only 2-3 multiple choice questions based in it. he doesnt take attendance but you should go to class because his tests are based on lectures and not textbook. take really good notes and study and you'll do fine. funny guy, interesting opinions about things. makes you read new york times alot.
Green is very intelligent. once you realize that he is a creature of the far left who sees no merit in anything conservative you will appreciate him for what he is-- a left-wing zealot who teaches his opinions. As far as left-wing zealots who teach their opinions go, Green is by far the best. I would highly recommend him.
I don't recommend that anyone take this man. I have a very high GPA at Hofstra and found his notes to be mediocre and his term paper to be incomprehensible, you won't understand what to do (even if you speak to him after class). His midterm was more of the same and left you very confused as to what to study, since his notes are horrible.
Not helpful whatsoever. Went to his office hours, and repeatedly asked for help and never got any good assistance. DON'T TAKE!
Seminar on political fiction;we talked more about ethics&political philosophy than politics.Challenges your views.Completely based on your participation in class & 1 final paper.I am rather conservative & he allowed me to challenge his own views.BEST PROF AT HOFSTRA if you want to actually think for yourself instead of regurgitate the prof POV
I have him for C&E honors and I do not like him.We are supposed to base our discussions off of the readings but he consistently goes off-topic and tries to cause fights rather than discussion amongst the students. He is very one-sided (to the left) and tries to get us to believe his opinions. Also he is very hard to reach outside of class.DON'T TAKE
I find that taking his class is extremely a waste of my time. He is very unorganized, and does not help when you ask for clarification. Try to avoid
I don't wear my seatbelt driving to school because I want to die before I can make it to this class.
If you take the time to care about the class and show interest, it helps your grade a lot. He takes the class seriously Not an easy A, but a very informative and GOOD class. He's there and very willing to help if you need it. Tests are right from notes in class. Lectures are on point and material is always presented clearly. I highly recommend him.
Professor Green is a solid professor at Hofstra. His class can be dry but some of his lectures are very good. He is an informed and knowledgeable professor that does have a strong lean to the left. Two difficult tests and an enjoyable research paper.
He tries to sound intelligent but often uses words improperly. Notes don't really make sense and are all over the place. Tests are easy but research paper is annoying.
I'm currently in Prof. Green's American Politics class. He is an excelent professor and I ook forward to this class every Monday and Wednesday. Class is very based on discussion and participation. Tests are hard, but if you just study his review sheet, you WILL be fine. Looking forward to having him again in comparative politics next semester!
Awesome class if you like politics and current events. Doesn't take attendance, homework is rare, and he does a good job of keeping his own politics out of it. Most classes are just discussions, would highly recommend it.
Professor Green is a very nice guy who knows a lot about the subject. His lectures are long and rather boring. It's very difficult to take notes because he talks so fast. The exams are very difficult and require outside information not given in class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want to pass you should go to every class.
Often monopolizes the class with his own dissertation on assigned reading. Claims to want to encourage student participation but spends too much time talking himself to allow much of this. Doesn't leave enough time for lecture notes.
David Green is extremely narrow minded. He's stubborn, set in his ways when it comes to electronic policies. You can't take notes on a laptop. He doesn't reason with you or offer alternatives to your academic problems. He is an awful educator all around.
He's a great teacher if your in the major and have interest in Political Science then you will like him. He won't let you use your computers and hates phones but his class is interesting so you don't need those. Heavy notes and lots of information to take in but very interesting and he does care if you ask for help he's there.
Is clearly an expert on the topic and made me consider a minor in political science because of how interesting it was. Doesn't allow you to use laptops for notes, but just take notes on everything he writes on the board and you'll be fine. Spends a lot of time talking about the articles he assigns you to read.
Professor Green has you read articles about what's going on in the world, which you shouldn't skip out on reading because he gives pop quizzes on them. We also discuss these readings in class. His lectures take up the rest of the class but are interesting and informative. I highly recommend this class if you want a straight forward BH credit.
Political Science is my life so this class was a breeze. There are a few 2 page papers and pop quizzes on the readings. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you show up you're doing yourself a favor. You don't really need the textbook and he is a nice guy.
Currently in my final year at Hofstra. I can say with confidence professor green was the best professor I have had (had him 2x). I always looked forward to his class as I left learning so much. He is also so easy to talk to and have a discussion with. As a student who considers herself moderate, I did not sense that he was overly liberal at all.
I would say he's somewhat condescending and really tries to cover more than he understands. He kind of suffers from a "God Amongst Mere Mortals" complex and more often than not, it shows. There are better professors within the Political Science Department who don't suffer from the same complex that he does.
He has a lot of knowledge in the field, but he gives out pop quizzes on the readings (usually articles from NY Times). His papers and tests are hard. He is a tough grader!
Great professor overall! Material should be easy if you're into poltics! Test are quiet difficult but study a lot and read the assigned readings because of pop quizzes! Man is super knowledgeable & cares about his students success!
nice guy, super liberal though. took his class for distribution requirement but you MUST attend class if you want to pass. he really cares about participation, and his exams are based off of everything he says in class - literally EVERYTHING. exams are hard and require studying. he doesn't tell you to read the textbook but expects you to have read
I dreaded this class. Exams are very difficult, mostly based on lectures. He always assigns 8 articles for reading before class, which can be really dry and boring, not to mention they take forever & also are ALL from liberal sources. Class discussion mostly on articles. He gives pop quizzes, but Qs are not always so straight-forward. TOUGH GRADER.
Every two days he assigns 8 newspaper articles and then "pop-quizzes" you on them. Very boring lecture, very dry. I did all of the readings every single day and still had a hard time passing the quizzes. He makes the class 100% harder than it needs to be
Took AP Gov in High School, so this class was a repeat. Difference was my AP Gov teacher was MUCH better, & made it so much easier to understand. This guy was very confusing, and made it all harder than it had to be. Also has a weird grading system and assigns only left-wing anti-Trump articles from the NY Times that he gives pop quizzes on. AVOID!
Assigns 8 articles to read for every class and will quiz you on a random few. Have to take notes on everything he writes. Tests are hard and you have to study. Test questions are vague so he doesn't give answers. Took this class as a distribution course and I enjoy Prof Green, he knows a lot, but it was harder than it had to be.
Not a Poli Sci student, took PSC 001/American Politics with Green as a distribution. He's passionate about the topic and well informed. Seems left-leaning if that bothers you. Expect to take the class seriously, he grades without wanting to spare your feelings. Learned a lot in his class.
I didn't like his teaching style at first, but boy did I learn. Makes you read things unrelated to the lecture which I liked, exams are 100% based on lecture, & each lecture is jam packed with content. You don't stop writing notes down. I wish there would have been a textbook though because I really had to rely on google if I missed lecture notes
Makes you read eight articles for every class and gives about 4 pop quizzes throughout the semester. Tests are fully based on lecture (TAKE GOOD NOTES). Quizzes are hard and only four questions each usually. Very tough grader and kinda sets you up to fail. Also gives two term papers. Can be very dry but lectures are really informative.
His class is all lecture. He gives about 20 articles a week to read but I have never read them and it's fine. He spends the first half-hour going over the readings. His test are really hard if you don't study. Only graded my midterm final and term paper.
Amazing guy. Seriously. Class is quite hard and kind of makes you think the world is ending but you'll learn so much and have great conversations about the stuff that matters. I wouldn't take him as a distribution but if you love Poli-Sci, give him a shot. You'll probably get a B but it'll change your life. Openly left of center but hears all sides
This is my third class with Green he is fantastic. If you do not like lectures this is not the class for you but if you take notes and study the class if great. Two test and a paper and the test are mainly essay based. Grades easy on the paper but not on the test.
Green is an amazing professor with a lot of knowledge. The only thing is that he is monotone and his lectures are brutal to sit through, but you gain a lot of insight. DO NOT skip class. the man doesn't take attendance so it's easy not to show up, but please go to class or you will not pass. Write basically everything he says. STUDY FOR EXAMS.
Only grades on the term paper, midterm, and final. Assigned a textbook but none of us read it and we all did fine. Tests are ALL lecture based so youre screwed if you miss even one class. Hard grader but he DOES want to see you succeed! Hes VERY passionate about politics. I LOVED his class and honestly cant wait to take him again sometime.
Only gave us two papers in the whole semester. Assigns about 6-8 articles every class meeting and discussion takes about half the class period. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you really don't want to miss class because everything he says in class is important. He does not email you missed notes so make sure you know people in class.
I never write reviews about professors but I had to for this one. By far the worst Professor, I've taken at Hofstra. Grades by two tests and one essay. Lectures are very boring and vague. Expects you to know the textbook even though he never uses it.
Professor Green is very knowledgeable on the subject. I believe he lectured well. Although I took the class online, he seems like a genuine guy. I believe the class was taught well. I feel like I gained more political knowledge. Would take a class with him in the future!
Professor Green is a great teacher and is very knowledgeable. For some, it can be concerning that your grade solely depends on a midterm, term paper, and final. However, you'll do great as long as you pay attention, follow instructions, and study. You NEED to attend class or you will fall behind as he will move fast. *Note: NO technology
Lecture heavy, but he welcomes discussion, participation, and questions. Attendance is not mandatory, but is really necessary. Graded on midterm, final, and term paper. He doesn't allow computers in class. He is a great lecturer, very engaging, but he does move fast and covers a lot of material every class. I loved him, would recommend!
Not super easy - take copious notes, don't be afraid to ask questions, come every day. Once he warms up to you he's actually really nice, funny, and personable. Taking him again next semester. Worthwhile class. Grades on midterm, term paper, final, no extra credit. Gives good feedback and available for help a lot.
This professor is a great teacher, but after I reported another faculty member, he sided with them and began targeting me with coded language, aggression and personal attacks. His behavior shocked the class and created a hostile learning environment, ignoring clear evidence of the other teacher's violations to protect his colleague.
Professor Green is an amazing professor and an overall great guy. I learned so much from his course and genuinely looked forward to coming to class. He is very strict on writing papers and attendance, but for good reasons. Fair grading policy and encourages student participation. Would absolutely take him again!
I took PSC 002, PSC 135, and PSC 192. He's very kind and understanding. His regular classes consist of discussion on current articles followed by lecture. He provides study guides for exams and answers emails promptly. You are graded on the midterm, final, and term paper. He prefers no tech in class. I enjoyed his teaching a lot!
Professor Green is an amazing lecturer. He is really knowledgeable in his field and always promotes active discussions in class. He doesn't like tech so you do have to take heavy notes in order to do good in his class, especially on tests. His fits are always fire too, overall loved him!
Dr. Green is an incredibly intelligent professor. Loves having thoughful discussions with the class over readings. Very sweet both inside and outside of class, always willing to help and doing Zoom review sessions on a Sunday evening. I learned so much and I am excited to take another class of his next semester!
He is liberal. He only offers 3 tests and doesn't curve at all and only allows a certain number of A's even if the whole class is scoring well so if you do poorly on one forget getting an A. If you pay attention and take notes you'll do fine though, he is a fair grader
