He can be difficult, however he knows his stuff and knows how to teach, you just gotta be quick in getting it. I think his teaching methods are great. I didn't have trouble with him, just do your homework and you'll be fine. multiple choice tests so makes it easier. give him a try
please don't take this pro. He doe't know how to teach and he lied all the time. In my class most student fail and i did't learn nothing in his class.I had hard time with him understand math 4. He gave very hard exam no joke. Plese don't take him he is not easy and he is terriable prof. plese don't take him you can't learn nothing and he lied all t
hello everyone!!! I took his class and I really regret my mistake. He is a very mean teacher and never helps anyone. He thinks his job is to give students hard time.I have never seen such a teacher before. He took off points for smallerrors. He ask takes off as much points as possible.. Never take his class is all I WANNA SAY>>>>>>>>>
How can I begin? Do yourself a favor and do not take this teacher. He explains things like the speed of light...he goes to his own pace. He is not helpful at all... and when you ask questions he never answers them. He really sucks...maybe thats why there is only 7 ppl registered on his class. Dont do it!
hey guys i just came from class and took this guys test he screwed up all the class.Everyone wanted to walk out some of us tried also but couldnot.just wanna tell everyone that this teacher doesnot have the guts tio be a teacher.he is there to make students cry. I feel sorry for u guys if still someone registers for this teacher.Goodlucktoregistere
He does not know how to teach period. He goes with his own flow...he doesn't care if you're following him.I dropped his class after taking 2 tests.I will never ever recommend him.PLEASE DON'T TAKE HIS CLASSES.
hello every one i never recommend this teacher for any one only if u real hard worker
Terrible professor! I would not recommend him at all! Good luck to those who have already registered for his class! He goes at a extremelly fast pace, it seems like he is just rying to get the course over with. e has no passion for what he is doing at all! my entire class just went blank sometimes!
Professor is extremely impatient and unhelpful. The pace at which he presents material made it extremely difficult to follow. The majority of what I learned in this class was through individual study with the use of the text. My questions were addressed to the college's math tutors to avoid further frustrating interaction with the professor.
I took his class last sem. overall he's class was ok, but one test out of them were extremely difficult. he losts his sense during the class, and sometimes he's not sure what he is talking about... I would say that there are more helpful teachers out there, and i only recommend this class if you are really hard working.
Avoid this guy from all aspects if you can. He is the worst matheticien instructor NOVA gots.
He does not like to walk through the in class problems in front of the class.
I had this guy last semester and failed the class. He is only concerned with "covering all the material required for the course" and tends to have a bad attitude. I am retaking this class at another campus and it's a BIG difference so far! Don't take Haile's class unless you're pretty good at math and can figure things out on your own. Wast of $$$.
I'm taking stats with this prof in 6 weeks, and thus far I've noted: unless you're fully competent with respect to "self-learning" you'll likely get an F or worse (what could be worse? - take this guy and you'll find out what misery and melancholy mean). His teaching style is abberant and prone to egregious errors that will make the hardened wince.
He's very strict. More than half of the class dropped out after the mid term.
i dont know why everyoen thinks he's bad. I honestly found him extremely good because he actually wants you to get an A in his course. He makes himself available and explains problems well. I see nothing bad with his teaching. I took 166 and aws fine. maybe he's just bad at teaching higher level math.
He is the best.
Very good teacher. Only gives 5 tests per symester so study. Material on tests is the same type as the homework problems. Talks quickly but is very willing to repeat stuff if it's not clear. He's always in the MathLab before class for questions and often ends class 20min early and stays to answer questions.
The worst teacher ever he doesn't say good morning, don't help after class, doesn't give extra credit, his notes sucks, cant read his handwriting... all in all just don't take his class. I'm telling you learn from our mistakes
he was a good teacher in 166 with easy tests but in 173 his tests were rather hard, especially the final. only 6 out of 35 finished in a timely manner. everyone else scrambled to finish at the end. but his teaching is very good and he makes himself available for questions. he is very intimidating, but nice if you talk to him.
He is an excellent professor and you can tell he cares about his students
IM TAKING THIS CLASS RIGHT NOW,MATH IS NOT MY BEST FRIEND BUT PROF. HAILE CARES SO MUCH ABOUT YOU LEARNING IN HIS CLASS IT MAKE SME ENJOY IT.. HE WANTS TO MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND.HE ALWAYS REVIEWS AT EVERY START OF THE CLASS. ITS UP TO YOU TO ASK THE QUESTIONS. VERY GOOD!
I don't understand why people don't like him. I had him last summer for Calculus II and I thought that he was very helpful and clear. I went to his office a few times before class and he always was ready and willing to help. The topic isn't easy (especially with all of the integrals), but he makes it as painless as possible.
Haile's teaching style is verbatim with the book. If you can read and copy the book then class is useless-that's all HE does. He speeds through material ridiculously fast and when you ask questions makes you feel dumb. He is def. not very approachable at first, but after a few encounters and a visible effort on your part he will help you individ.
Goes through material WAY too fast. Sometimes whole sections are discussed/taught for only 5 minutes or less. Not a sufficient schedule for a math class.
Just finished. This guy moves through material fast, but his notes are extremely clear. He makes himself available to students to ask questions to. Use the study guides for the test, it is extremely helpful. Personality wise I found him to have a short temper and be somewhat abrasive. Not a good friend, but a good professor. Recommended.
I will never take his class again. He makes you fell stupid and does not respect a student. Goes realllyyy fast with all the material. I hated every minute of his class!!!
Very HARD. Do not take him. I worked sooo hard for his class but i got a C. The final exam is totally unexpected than what he tells you. Would not recommend him!
Prof. Haile is by far the WORST teacher I have ever had while in college. He was so bad that I had to go to the Dean and complain about his methods and grading system. The Dean agreed with me, and had points added to my exam. I wish someone had told me before I took him. THE WORST!!!!!
I'm taking his class now. I'm having a hard time understanding all the negative comments. He is not the greatest teacher in the world but he understands the subject and definitely wants his students to learn. I think the problem most people have is that he is not a push over and higher level math is hard. He does a good job of explaining concepts.
He makes you learn and participate in the class. Very good prof. with high knowledge. Don't miss his class. He is A+++++ prof.
Mr. Haile is not one of those professors who doesn't care if you fall behind. He's really good about making sure everyone pays attention and understands the material.
Like everyone else I agree Mr. Haile is not the friendliest guy in the world, but if you approach him he will not turn you down. He wants his students to learn -- which is kind of hard how fast he goes through each section but don't worry he is very crystal clear on what he wants and his test aren't tricky. Do the HW on MML and study, you'll pass!
Prof. Haile is the best math instructor I've ever had hands down. I haven't been to school in five years and I didn't remember much from algebra, however he is sincerely invested in his students education and is willing to answer questions and spend time in the school math lab to help students as often as possible. I highly reccomend Prof. Haile.
he is very fair
Professor Haile is good for some students who would like to learn the material fast. However, for me who learns math very slowly, he was not the best instructor for me. I would definitely not consider taking MTH 151 with this instructor if you're fresh out of high school.
This is my second class with Professor Haile. Although he may come off a little brusque, he's actually a very nice guy and has a great sense of humor. He knows his subject, and he wants to see his students succeed. Classes move very quickly; you'll need to take good notes and keep up with the homework to do well.
This guy's teaching methods are brutal but he will help you out if you ask questions. Moves very fast, almost gets a kick out of losing the class in the dust when he writes problems on the board, very tough on grading tests i believe, everyone around me struggled... I got an A on the final paper and luckily survived the class with a C.
He teaches each section quickly but is happy to repeat himself in case you don't understand. His hw is on MyMathLab and it's always open, but his tests are a hit or miss. It's only 5 or 10 questions, and is very picky with grading them. If you don't come to class, do all of the HW, and just slack off, this prof. isn't for you. Not an easy A.
Hes awful he goes way to fast and he thinks were stupid because we dont understand what he is saying. His teaching technique is wack like if were doing chapter 1 test we would do the test after learning about chapter 2 confusing. Im not good in math but im also not that bad to fail and i did and so did the whole class. Now i gotta take it over agai
Strict. My class had made a comment about the homework not showing up online, so after they fixed it, he expected us to do about 10 sections in a few days. Prefer not to take a class with him again.
He was nice, but you must be good at math to be in his class. I think the majority of the class failed because he was harsh in grading.
He is def. intimidating, but as time progressed, you saw that he was always willing to help the students if they didn't understand and help the class as much as he could to do well. He goes over the material pretty fast but wont go on until you've understood it.You HAVE to ask questions if you're confused & you'll see he's really not so bad :)
Not the best professor. Very rude to his students. I will not take his class ever again.
Was an easy A for me, got a perfect 100 in the class. He can be quick but just tell him if you have a question! He'll even stay after class to explain anything. Good for adults since he can be a bit straight-forward, but has a great dry sense of humor. HW from mymathlab was 10%, midterm 30%, final was 60%. Show up to class or you'll be behind.
This guy just came to teach for money. He didn't have a true passion as a teacher. Very disappointed to take his class. Two exams and the exam is 90% of your grade. If you get a D in your first exam, you're screwed. I regret taking his class.
Prof Haile will more than meet you halfway if you make an effort. He moves quickly, but really wants you to understand and will go above and beyond if you ask questions. You must participate in class, ask questions and do the homework if you want to do well. He is very fair and ALL exam problems are direct from HW or in-class examples.
Best math professor I've ever had! Really, really cares that everyone understands and will take the extra step for anyone, but if no one asks questions, will assume everyone understands and will press on. Best balance I've ever seen
Professor Haile gave great notes. Exams come from the notes, no more no less. It's simple to do well in his class. He asks if there are any questions every class.
Probably the easiest MTH291 you can find at AN. Lectures are extremely clarified. Exams cannot be more straight-forward and are extremely easy and doable. Just keep up with him and do the homework and in-class exercises.
Very disappointed. If you are not his favorite, he won’t help you. Got B in his MTH 152, although having all As in other advance math. He also showed his bad attitude toward me. Do NOT take him.
Extremely good prof., however he will leave you behind if you skip or don't participate in lessons. If you screw around then bomb and go to him complaining he will laugh at you. Work hard, be respectful, and he will be an epic teacher. So essentially don't be lazy or dumb. Boom, super simple stuff.
Great Professor. I took him 8 weeks, lectures fast but will slow down if asked. answers all questions, explains thoroughly, easy-going, available for help. One of the best at Nova, knows his stuff and wants to make sure everyone understands as well, but he wont take your b.s. its college, you shouldnt slack off anyway.
Professor Haile he is very knowledgeable attendance is MANDATORY!he goes way to fast but I understood the material and the activities in class were helpful. If your class participates he likes it and will let you use a formula sheet. He is obsessed with deriving formulas. Oh yes NO TALKING WHEN HE IS TALKING NO MATTER WHAT. Overall i liked him.
By far best professor I've had so far. He will ALWAYS answer questions and make sure you understand, but if no one asks any questions he will keep moving. Will work with you to make sure you understand however, homework and attendance is a must. As long as the student puts in a good effort, he/she will get what they're there for.
He is not easy. But he is crystal clear in his instruction, and tests directly from his lectures. Do the homework and be in class and he will bend over backwards to help you understand the material. If you don't take his class seriously, well then I probably wouldn't take you (the student) seriously either.
I definitely do not recommend him for 174, especially over the summer. He gave no partial credit so you either had got an A or an F on his tests. On the other hand he is available if you need extra help, and he is clear, but his tests and teaching style lack what is needed to be a proper teacher for this class. If you can avoid taking him, do so.
Honestly, im not sure why his ratings are so low. he was so helpful and so nice. he even wrote me a recommendation for transfer. he goes above and beyond for his students. if you dont understand hell go over it with u and go slowly if he has to. he really does care about each student. I recommend him!
The worst professor at NOVA.I always got As in math before him. He is not helpful he is just reading out of the book all of his notes are in the book. He goes way to fast and when you ask questions he makes it out like your stupid, but in reality he doesnt know the concept himself. Always has somewhere to be during office hours. Not a good proffesor
He made simple concepts confusing. Don't take his class unless you are great at math. It seems like everytime I wanted to meet with him, including office hours, was a "horrible time". There is no extra credit. There are 3 exams worth 80% of your grade. This is not good if you are not a great test taker. Half the class dropped including me.
He is big on participation and class effort. Only 3 tests worth 100% of grade. Does not allow TI-89. He is by the book. Test questions are usually formatted just like homework questions. Extra credit was given on test #2 and #3. He seems mean, but simply ask questions and he will not finish explaining until you understand. Very fair/helpful.
Not very helpful, asked him a question and didn't really answer it. Makes you feel stupid instead of just explaining how to do something. Teaches too quick and says to ask questions but students dnt know what to ask. was forced to take him. wld not recommend if this is optional for you.
wastes time by giving students in-class questions after doing only few similar ones. Then goes over them really fast. Grading was tough. Do not recommend him
Exams: Grades each question out of 5 which means either you get 0 or 5. if half of your solution was right but half wrong, don't expect a partial credit, you will get 0. First time in my life I got less than 90% in math.
DO not take him. Horrible prof. He does not know how to teach. during his exams either you get 5 or 0 points on each question. Does not return our quizzes. I think he does not correct them. I wasted my time taking this unknowledgeable prof. very rude. He makes mistakes all the time and students correct him all the time.
If you wanna study with the worst professor, go ahead and take him.
He clearly understands the material himself - it's just that he has an awful time teaching it. He makes mistakes like any other first time student with basic math, which would be okay, if he gave that benefit of slips when doing the exams. I am a math major and it was hard to even keep up with him... I got a D. Says a lot. I usually get As or Bs.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS FOR MTH 174. HE IS NEVER THERE DURING OFFICEHOURS GIVES NOT PARTIAL CREDITS SO IF YOU GET ONE LITTLE THING WRONG THE PROBLEM IS WRONG HE IS THE WORST!
This class is really hard but this professor does a good job explaining and teaching a curriculum with so much to be covered in such a short period of time. A fast paste class with easy tests. (just like the study guide he passes out) As long as you are in class and pay attention you will be on good terms with this professor.
Professor Haile is a great math professor, i loved his class because the material was clear. He also made me not want to skip class because i was afraid that i would disappoint him; he expects a lot from his students. He makes sure that the students understand the criteria and is willing to do anything to help!
He's a nice enough guy, has a sense of humor and does care for his students but he is an unfair grader and has unrealistic expectations for EVERYONE to be at the same level. Math is my weakest subject and I had a hard time keeping up with the material. He went somewhat out of his way to help me, but it was too much. This class slaughtered my gpa.
The worst math professor at nova. Doesn't care for students' success. No extra credits whatsoever. Doesn't give partial points- got algebra wrong, the whole thing is zero. Goes too fast on lectures, you can't catch up with him. Not supportive, the opposite, makes you feel down, and also very rude. I am an A math student but he made me suffer.
For someone whose math skills are shaky, do not take this professor. There was not much encouragement only that, "if you don't do well on this test, your ship is sunk". Very straight-forward, blunt, he can teach, as long as you can keep up w fast paced teaching. Tests killed me, missed a negative on a 10 pt question? say goodbye to your 10 points
He's a cool Prof . If you need help just make an appointment and he's ready to help.
For a student who is shaky in math, I highly recommend that you DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He gives not partial credit on the tests, he flys through his lessons leaving you clueless for tests. I studied for hours before his test and still stubbled on them because the material on them was way higher than what he had taught us or what was even on the hw
Professor Haile breezed through lectures so it was a struggle to keep up, let alone take notes along with him. He would not give partial credit on tests and would OCCASIONALLY give extra credit. Take him if you're already a great math student and really enjoy math. Otherwise....
He is a really helpful teacher. He always answers your questions and he explains clearly.
He is a nice teacher and he answers all the questions clearly. You mostly learn in his classroom, but you need to do homework to get good grades in his tests, because his tests questions are usually the same as homework questions. However, he doesn't grade homework.
Class was four hours (of course, six week). His examples ALWAYS had 1 or 2 mistakes (depended on class to fix him....).
He's respectful but terrible professor
Avoid taking this man. All I gotta say
He is the least helpful professor, and rude. His exams are too long for the time given to us to complete it. His explaining is weak , and he never gives you partial credit. You either get 100 or 0 because the smallest mistake can take more than half the points of the question. DON'T TAKE WITH HIM
Teacher explains the lesson well. Sometimes makes a mistake on the board. There are four exams and are filled with questions that are identical to the examples he writes on the board. You can study for the exam only by revising the notes. Missing a class will definitely mess you up though.
Absolute best teacher I have ever had. Explains absolutely everything in-depth. Encourages participation . Don't take his class, or any calculus class for that matter, if you are not prepared to work hard. gives lots of homework that is "optional" but definitely require for a good grade. He says at least 4 hours a night for an A.
He was terrible!!! Do not take if your taking more then one class he goes through everything super quick.
If you don't understand something, ASK HIM. He'll do anything he possibly can to make sure you understand the material. HW was on MyMathLab, and there was a lot of it, but gives ample time to complete. He's a great professor, as long as you show that you care and put in some effort. TL;DR version: Do the work, ask for help, and you'll be fine.
He is a great professor. Ask question if you dont understand the subject, he is not going to move on until he makes sure that everything is clear. Exams are fair as long as you do homework.
He is pretty good. He makes minor mistakes here and there but fixes it right away. He knows he is not the best professor so he is really there for you if you need help so ask questions if you don't understand anything! He literally tells you whats on the test so it wasn't that hard
I read comments that his class is hard, but I think it really isn't... Just show up to his lecture, do the homeworks and you will be just fine. He is willing to answer every question, and stops to make sure that every student is following his lecture.
Professor Haile is perfect. Calculus is never going to be easy, but he is very good at teaching and very good at explaining things. If you ask questions he will stop moving forward until you understand it. He grades based off of 5 exams, not the HW. If you're bad with calculus then take this guy and do your homework and you'll get a good grade!
I am very glad I took MTH173 with this professor. He explains the material really well and always keeps the class engaged. However, it is a really hard class. I never had to work this hard for an A but it paid off in the end. Homework is not graded and this gives you a lot of time to study on your own, but if you slack, you won't pass. Take him.
First off, do the homework. Second, he's kind of abrasive because he's very direct. But, he definitely lets you ask questions and will take the time to answer you in class. The problem is this conflicts with his abrasiveness, so most people are afraid to press the issue if they don't understand. If you're not afraid of asking questions, take him
He takes his time to answer student's questions and makes sure everyone understands but will only do so if you ask him for help . In class, he teaches the lesson, gives you practice problems, and assigns online homework that is the same as what you learned. To pass the tests, simply show your work to get the right answer.
worst decision of my life was to take his 8 week class. Please beware , this class was so challenging. He'll remove so much points for just subtle errors. Exams are 20% with final exam 30%, no extra credit , no way to increase your grade or nothing . Stay away from him!!!!
Really a great professor, but I feel like he picks favorites and doesn't really give out extra credit. The tests were pretty easy, but went to quick and I felt lost at times. He's a funny guy, and real nice guy who takes questions and time out of the class to answer EVERYBODY! You'll learn a lot but not an easy class, I need to retake it & no 8 wk.
His exams are very easy and short but he is a tough grader, and he makes a lot of mistakes when lecturing that confuse the students
Actually teaches and if you don't understand something, raise your hand and he'll explain it in another way for you to understand it. His tests is mainly straight forward and is what he teaches in class. Make sure to ask a lot of questions and participates! He gives bonus points for participation.
Great professor. I took him for MTH 173 and 174. Explains concepts well and makes sure everyone understands before moving on to the next topic. Ask questions if you don't understand! If you don't ask, there is no way for him to know if you get the material or not. Show up to class, participate, and do the homework.... easy A.
Took Prof. Haile at GMU. He takes the time to explain everything if you are confused by it. Do the HW and it will help understand the material and prepare you for the exams. He is tough when grading exams and will not cut you any slack. Show up to class write down everything he writes and you will do fine. He will drop your lowest test score.
Best professor!! He is very patient he would spend a lot of time to explain until you understand the question. Homeworks can be heavy but not that hard. Tests are easy.
Good professor, explains everything and begs for questions to be asked if you do not understand something. Lectures are usually two chapters of the textbook and are nicely explained, although he does make mistakes sometimes, but students usually catch him on them. Homework is given through MyMathLab and participation is needed in order to pass.
Professor Haile teaches this class so that anyone can get an A, as long as the do the work that is required of them. He is also friendly and easy to talk to if you have a problem understanding something.
I'm glad I chose this professor. He is slightly a tough grader but you can always go talk to him. Most of his questions come directly from the textbook so if you do the homework you should be fine.
Professor Haile is the best professor I have ever had because of his positive attitude, clarity, respect for his students, drive to help you understand, and accessibility. He says to ask questions and if you don't, and don't understand, he will help until you get it during office hours. You have to purchase mymathlab online, no textbook.
I am taking his MTH 173 class right now. So far, he is the best math teacher I ever had. There are total five tests, first 4 worth 20% of your grade and the last one is 40%, which means it will also cover the one where you had a bad grade. No need to do homework if you are smart enough. Grading is clear but little tough. Definitely, recommend him.
If you show up to class and participate you will pass. Doing homework is not mandatory but if you do it then the tests are pretty straight forward and easy. At first I though he is a bit tough on his class, but his clear lectures will make it east for you to get good grades. Do yourself a favor and show up to class!
Professor Haile is a wonderful professor and knows the material inside and out. He does come off a little harsh sometimes but he's really just a fun guy with a scary countenance. You should definitely take him!!! Just know that he expects you to try your hardest. If you do the homework and come to class ready to participate, you'll get an easy A.
Not a very understanding professor. His exams are very difficult already calculus is hard, he doesn't make it easier. Doesn't give any opportunity to raise your grades. Exams are different than homework and class work. If known this professor before I wouldn't have taken his class instead of wasting my money and time.
This professor is the best professor that I have ever had. Clear explanations, give in class practices, and extra credit. If you show up and participate in class, he will be willing to do anything to help you understand calculus no matter what.
Took the six-week course over the summer, At first I was afraid to take him because of his avg rating, however, he did a swell job at explaining difficult concepts. HW is not mandatory, but trust me - you will need to do it. The tests are jokes compared to the HW. He offers great help and he has a genuine passion for math. (you like math? Pass)
Even though he doesn't grade the homework, if you do it you'll get an A. Most of his test questions are just rephrasing of problems straight from the homework. Lectures are great and he really ensures you know the material before moving on. Amazing professor.
take him!!! he actually takes the time to make sure you completely undestand the material. no question is a stupid question. the homework helps you prepare for exams. the textbook is easy to understand and read. dont take calc II if u dont understand how to antidifferentiate and differentiate.
Took him 6 weeks summer class. No homework needed. 3 easy exams if you do the homework. He explained the material very well and made sure you get through it. The important thing is that if you participate in class, he will give you the opportunity to boost your grade
2nd worst professor I have ever had. Intimidating. Asks for questions but doesnt like answering them. No extra credit opportunities were offered. Tough grader and very little partial credit given for answers. Questions on exams were often confusing and different than homework.
Please do not take Calc-1 with him. You'll regret it forever. I took it and ended with a C.
I'm writing my review early because of the recent negative reviews I saw were posted. Prof. Haile is hilarious, inspirational, and lectures well. This class is for people that really want to learn math. Great Professor, I took Calc 1 with him and I will be taking Differential Equations w/ him next semester. Tip: Homework is key to acing the exams.
Worst professor ever in my life.
Professor Haile is, in my opinion, one of the best math professors at nova. His class is very organized and his is very clear in his lectures. He will make you work in his class, as all good teachers will, but his tests are pretty similar to the homework and practice problems done in class. Overall he will make you work but an A is in reach!
Some of his lectures were hard to follow because of how fast he went. But he encourages questions and will answer them until you understand. He cares about his students learning the material. You have to show up to the class or else you will fall behind. But overall you have to work for your grade, but he will help you
Hands down best Calculus professor I have ever had. His tests are usually directly from the homework so you know what to expect. Also very caring about his students and genuinely a nice guy. He does expect you to show up to class and if you do not like to do hw don't expect a good grade. If you have a chance to take him definitely do it
First of all, Professor H is one of the great math professor I have had so far at NOVA. He cares a lot about his students, but only if he sees you, you are trying your best to learn about the materials. He loves to see students asking questions and he is always willing to help. BUT FYI, He will only grade you based on THREE tests,MTHLAB HW.
Pros: The professor was straight to the point. Proceeded with course in a timely manner. He is also funny at times. Cons: Needs to provide more opportunities for extra credit. Although he does give credit for participation, it is hard to anticipate how much you'll earn that way. He sometimes overlooks your work in the exam which results in an unfa
He is right when he says you have to do the homework to be successful in the class. The class is tough, 3 tests are the only grades, and they are not easy. HIs lectures are pretty engaging, but I do not think that 1 hour and 15 minutes is enough to go in depth into the subject and teach students about the different types of problems.
Although he's a really tough grader, he really cares about his students and will provide extra help and resources if you need it. You do have to put in the work and complete the homework (which is online and fairly easy) and you'll be fine. He may come off as a hard ass, but show him respect and he'll definitely show you yours.
He is the best even though he is a tough grader. The exams are similar to the homework so even he will not check your homework, you should better to do it.
One of the best math professors I've ever had. Explains the subject very well and goes through how to get to the formulas and not just "remember" them. If you read the textbook, go to class and take good notes, and do all the homework on my math lab, you will do good. Tests are never more than 20 questions. One thing to remember is to ask questions
The material of the class is not difficult, but the teaching method plays a large role in understanding the class. Prof. Haile writes the notes by hand and goes super fast. He expects you to understand right away and seems to get frustrated and one asks questions. He tends to be serious almost all the time so approaching him is intimidating.
Not mean but is intimidating. Gets irritated when asked questions but often reminds us to ask if needed. Board work fast and unclear. Book unclear as well. Had to use other sources to learn. Hw not graded. Does not give trick/surprise exam Qs. They are often from book or class. May give bonus Qs. Comforting knowing exams will be reasonable.
Professor Haile is supportive of his students and encourages questions. Explains material thoroughly but he goes pretty fast. Clear grading criteria and tests are very similar to homework. He's open to feedback from students such as adding a bonus question to the final. Overall, he is a great instructor.
if he didnt use my Math lab, then I'm sure everybody would pass his class. His lectures are heavy and for the exams, he asks for the single most basic stuff that u wouldn't even think of. he likes to favor certain people and can be mean at times. "HE'S ALWAYS RIGHT" no matter what. no calculators allowed!! syllabus not clear.
goes by too fast and homework is not graded so you dont get motivated to do it. do not take it with him, he failed me and now i have to take it again, do not take chances taking his class. now my graduation needs to be postponed thanks to him :)
Good Prof for Diff EQ, its a hard class though. He gives a lot of extra credit if you ask for it in class and participate. The material in this class is IMPOSSIBLE though, I had a C for the most part and picked it up by the end somehow. I have a problem with the textbook though, I didn't really use it for any other than Homework, doing HW is key.
I took DE over the summer with him where we were only graded by 3 exams. He's a pretty good teacher when it comes to explaining. Although often he has a bad attitude and even though he tells us to ask questions, he gets visibly annoyed when you ask times. He's intimidating I guess.
He didn't make HW mandatory for us, but if you don't do it you'll pretty much fail. Exams were tricky and they didn't have a lot of points to them so it was easy to get a bad grade. If you take him, get ready to know "EXACTLY WHERE THESE EQUATIONS COME FROM".
Take him if you wanna fail the class. Horrible attitude when you ask questions and especially he doesn't like you. HW is not graded, all based on test and he is a tough grader.
he would give problems that even he didn't know the answer to. he over-complicates everything
Says to ask questions if you don't understand, but is extremely confrontational and short-tempered when you do. Had a quiz worth 15% of grade after 3 classes. An ok professor to take the course with if you already knew all the material, but wouldn't recommend unless you have already taken it before. Takes off a lot of points for small mistakes.
He let me ask many questions. The quizzes sometimes included things that he didn't go over well in class, but usually we were prepared for them. Final exam was only tough because he didn't tell us exactly what would be on it. I'm bad at math, so I had to work very hard, but if you put in effort he will help you understand. No study guides.
Good teacher you work for the grade that you want if you study hard and put in the effort you will pass the class he responds to emails and is overall plain guy doesnt do too much in the lectures just teaches you what you need to know
He gave us two tests worth 50% of our grade each. There were no other assignments worth credit.
Only two tests worth 50% each for the six week online class. The entirety of the class was only 110 points and the average final grade for the class was around a 74.
Prof Haile is incredibly smart! He really knows his stuff and how to explain things. He has a very minor accent, but I could understand him well enough. He stays after class for any questions and will work with you to make sure you know it. It's a tough class, but he's the best professor to teach it.
Great dude, just show up to class.
Dr Haile was a nice professor, who truly wants his students to succeed. Here are the things you need to know if you take his diffy-q class: - 2 exams and a final and thats it - No curve , no extra credit . -Exam problems extremely similar to HW problems, no surprises - He tells you exactly what will be on the exam -HW not graded but needed
He is okay go to the classes otherwise you wont pass he is kinda moody but overall you can meet with him after class you do have to study to pass this class it wont be a easy A but he is a okay grader l he isnt going to be the worst teacher you ever have but not the best just average
Professor Haile is an average math teacher, He is caring about his students. This class tests heavily only 2 exams and a final exam which is why I believe if you aren't the best in math or a bad test taker I wouldn't recommend this class. Homework barely counts into your grade but get a 90% on homework for the best outcome in your overall grade.
kinda uptight and expects you to work for the grade.
Gets upset if you ask questions; acts like youre questioning his intelligence. He teaches straight out of the textbook. Doesn't know how to use Zoom. Has 3 tests worth 60% and a cumulative final exam worth 40%. Doesn't curve. Really strict cheating policy and acts like everyone is guilty. There's a ton of HW thats ungraded but NEEDED TO PASS
He is an excellent instructor. He makes things easy to understand. There are three exams and one final exam that are easy if you study.
Just took his MTH 254 class in Spring 2021. A very fast speaker that doesn't know when to slow down. No extra credit. Vaguely tells what types of questions will be on the exams. Doesn't provide a study guide, instead, you have to study on your own and know the material on top of your head. Reader, I strongly suggest you don't take his class.
To give a little context I have B on Calc1 and A on Calc2. I love math and I consider myself good at it. This class however was horrendous. Lectures were long and tedious. He only grades in four tests, and nothing else doesn't drop lowest either. He refuses to give a single point in a test to get a B in the class. so do not expect any help at all.
Prof Haile is a good guy and wants people to understand the material. He does some examples but goes through slides very quick. Theres 2 exams + final + homework. Have to submit exams in PDF form. He takes a very long to to reply to emails. Not everything on the homework is explained in class. Homework takes a long time but is worth it.
He is amazing at explaining concepts for people that are not usually good at math. Best math teacher I have ever had. He goes over problems in class and similar problems will be on tests. If you show up and do problems in class then tests are easy.
MTH 263 Calc I - Summer 6 Week Session: Graded on 3 tests, 30%/30%/40%. DO THE HOMEWORK for practice or suffer. Don't understand something? ASK QUESTIONS. Professor Haile is great at explaining concepts, and is VERY willing to help you, BUT he is NOT a mind reader, so if you don't speak up, blame yourself if you fail. PARTICIPATE.
I took a summer course with him and it was the worst decision I have made. The class is based off of only 3 exams. There is homework but it's not graded at all and no extra credit. Exam 1 and 2 are worth 30%, Exam 3 is worth 40%. Attendance is not mandatory but is needed to know what will in exams. This professor is very unforgiving, don't take him
Absolutely the worst teacher in any subject I've ever had. Very crude personality, poor communication, and condescending. He's someone that does not belong in the teaching profession. I'm pretty sure all the good votes here are his doing and not real ratings because all my classmates were full of complaints as well. Avoid him at all cost!
It's easy to do well as long as you pay attention in class, and if you miss class, catch up from the textbook on what you missed. He's strict about due dates, so get the work done on time unless it's a serious emergency.
Did I fail the class? Yes, but over all it was for the most part my fault. He has very little grading he does overall (5 things). At the start of the semester things were tough adjusting too because of his very quick process to solving things. It is what it is though, he helped me more than any other teacher ever has and helped to push me to pass.
Haile kind of gave up on our class by the end of the semester. He started strong but by the end he really put less effort in explaining the concepts. besides that he was pretty good. compliant with students and explains content well.
He is dishonest teacher. He does dishonesty in class.
He does Black and White in class room. Just plays mind games in class. Do not use pencil in his paper-based exam because if does not like you he erase your answer.
It's a difficult class, but if you put in the work and do all the homework even though it's optional, you'll be fine. I took the 6 weeks summer sesh and got a B(81% but he grades a B as anything from 80-89%). The only grades in the class were 3, 10Q tests. The homework came directly from the textbook(there's a free pdf). Bc my class was so short..
..he let us use calculators and a formula sheet once we asked if we could. He's approachable and if you ask for help he will give it to you. It's a hard class, but if you are dedicated to doing the work and show up to class(mine was in-person) it is 100% manageable.
He's the worst professor u can possibly take at NOVA. MTH is already hard enough but he does not care about u or ur grade. He teaches very fast and even argues with their student on whether an answer is right or not and tries to prove them wrong all the time. DO NOT TAKE HIM if u want to pass. We didn't even get a study guide for the final.
SUPER Great professor! :) Definitely take him! He clearly outlined each concept and was open to question. Lots of extra credit so you can do well on tests. I already had taken the class back in high-school so the material was a breeze. If you want a faster pace for pre algebra just take 167, if you want to go slower but more clearly take 161+162.
I would recommend him, but know this - Really tough and picky grader - Nice dude and willing to work with you, but kind anal as a person - Good lecturer; he'll go over stuff until you get it as long as you speak up - Not a lot of grades, I only had 4 (3 exams and hw) - Be prepared to spend a TON of time working on this class, it is math so :/
He is most awful teacher I have ever had. Dishonest grading.
His knowledge is not up to date. I guess he doesn't know about new technology please don't take his class because he needs to be teaching class from 1970. Waste of money.. He doesn't know how to work on software
I took stats 245 last spring 2022. He was the best math professor I've ever had. As long as you're actually willing to put in the hours and work, you should be golden. Ask questions, don't just sit there and copy whats off the board, actually understand whats happening and why. Have a good calculator and a good attitude, you'll be ight.
Awful professor he doesn't know how to use software. Don't waste your money and time to attend his class. A student attitude should show they come to class for learning not for gossiping. And teachers attitude need to be teaching subject rather than gossiping around. Grading need to be basis of knowledge not basis on gossiping.
He gave assignment without teaching. Don't ruin your GPA by attending his classes
I struggle with math, but Prof. Haile is able to simplify the problems as long as you ask. If you have trouble asking questions or getting nervous with that sort of thing, I wouldn't recommend his class to you. He is a bit fast-paced but he is always willing to slow down if needed by any student. He's very through with his lessons.
He makes the concepts simple to understand but he does go pretty fast. Very test heavy, 25% each (2 total), 20% homework and 30% final. Always willing to answer questions and responds fast to emails. Lots of homework, 2 a week - prepare about 1 to 2 hours for each. But if you like math, take him. He's one of the best math profs I've had.
Professor Haile is genuinely a very nice guy. However, his teaching style can be a bit tricky for those who struggle with math because he sometimes overcomplicates little things. He is more than willingly to help you if you attend his office hours and can see your potential.
Professor Haile was a math loving teacher, my favorite teacher for the semester. he sometimes has orthodox ways to teach students but got to the point. once you participate and do the homework he will take a linking towards you. You should have a minimum understanding of math if you want to cruise by, refresh on you Algebra 2. (I took pre-calc)
Professor Haile is probably the best mathematics teacher I've ever had. I was dreading taking this class as I hadn't taken a math course in almost 10 years. He made sure everyone understood the material before moving on. We did plenty of practice problems in class, some homework which required Pearson MyLab Math access, and a few tests.
Mr. Haile was a good professor and explained how to do problems step by step. However, if you don't understand, then you need to ask questions in order to get clarification as he will assume everyone is on the same page and move on. There is weekly homework and 3 exams, the third being the final so go to the tutors for more help if needed.
Prof.Haile is a good professor. He always tries to explain things until you got it unless you do not hesitate to ask him. He willing to stay after class to explain. Be focus in class you will get the grade that you expect. He is very understanding Prof. although he didn't make you feel that. Make sure you talk to him about your circumstances.
The course is weighed by weekly homework assignments and 3 exams. You have to be in class for the exams. He is very nice and accommodating.
Strike 1: Has the nerve to charge money for homework (Cengage, no less). Strike 2: Grades harshly despite constantly making errors himself and needed to be corrected by students during every. Single. Lecture. Strike 3: Thinks exams have to be hard just because of cheat sheets even though REAL mathematicians do not waste time memorizing formulas.
I recommend talking copious notes, since his lectures tend to be very chalk board heavy, with pretty much everything he writes being incredibly important. If you struggled with math throughout high school, he is the perfect teacher for precalculus because he is incredibly detail-oriented on the basics and great at helping you learn complex concepts
Shocked his ratings were this high. Main issue with this class is that he relies on "MyMathLab" and it's awful. Homework and math practice locks out if you don't attempt it before the due date. I got sick for one week and missed one lecture and two homework, but I couldn't practice with it before the exam. 0 chance to catch up in his course.
Professor Haile was a good. If you don't understand, he can repeat as many times as you need. His lectures are quickly and he doesnt engaged as much with student.
Worst math prof I have ever had. He taught straight out of the textbook & wrote out long proofs without properly explaining what he was doing. I only took him because he was so highly rated on this website, but the reviews are FALSE. He grades extremely harsh; little partial credit combined with a test only made-up of 5-7 questions. RUN.
He is not good, all he does is teach straight out of the textbook. He can't even answer your question. He will fail you even after passing the final just because he failed one test. He is a harsh grader.
He is the worst professor, he is not understanding at all he failed me even after I passed the final.
Professor Haile is a tough grader. 85% of your grade is based on the scores of the 4 tests you take during the class, including the final, and 15% is homework. The homework does not provide good practice, and is different than the content of the exams. His lectures are too fast paced. The exams are not open note, nor are formula sheets provided.
Don't take this class (MTH 265) unless you need to for credit. It is not easy, even for students who did well in high school calculus courses. The difficult part isn't so much Professor Haile's fault, as he is great at teaching, it's just that the grade is based off of four exams and homework, so you have limited opportunities to make mistakes.
Good professor go to all his classes and take all his notes (best way for you to pass the exam). Better professor in my opinion, then other math professors. Doesn't post notes online GO TO EVERY CLASS. Doesnt respond to emails on friday-sunday. Respect him, he respects you. Dont study off homework I did and i got a 25/50. Study w his notes n u pass
I'm honestly surprised by the 4.1 rating he has on here. I accidentally took this class and forgot to drop so I've been stuck with him. And OMG, this professor is very fast and often makes mistakes while explaining and grading exams. Don't take his class unless you desperately need it. Sadly, it doesn't give extra credit. His class is excruciating
Haile is just one of those teachers. If you're a student with no desire for learning, he's not the professor for you. If you suffer from a poor mindset, you should just take it regardless of difficulty. Truly inspirational stuff, a rare teacher with genuine care for a student's future. Loads of extra credit for participation. Raise your hand!
I took his class in the summer so it was fast-paced but not overwhelming. His lectures were not my favorite, but they were pretty decent and most students could understand. What I admired most was how much he cared, sometimes giving homework extensions if we needed it and was always available for office hours, dedicated to making sure we got it.
He is ok if theres no other teachers, study on your own and take time to memorise the formulas. Homework is CENGAGE THE WORST TEXTBOOK SOFTWARE TO EVER EXIST and its 100 something dollars bro is straight shilling for them. Do NOT make mistakes on exams, you can only make 1 before you will drop below a 90. Cool dude and answers questions tho
He is very fast in his teaching DURING class but if you meet him during his office hours and after class, he will explain everything at a slower speed and will make sure you understand. He is very encouraging, engaging, and genuinely wants you to succeed. The homework can sometimes have a very short due date but if you stay ontop of it you got it!
Worse professor you'll ever have. Take ANY OTHER PROFESSOR!! I am learning statistics from my biology teacher because he is so bad. He does nothing to help you just reads it off the textbook and yells at kids. he is so condescending when you ask for help and he goes so fast you can even grab his first sentence.
HE IS THE WORST AND WILL NOT PASS YOU!!!!!
I rly don't know why he has such a high rating... he's passive aggressive when you ask for help, speeds through the lectures (I literally see him glancing at the clock constantly and he lets us out early even tho he rushes through the lecture), and is a very harsh grader. There are 4 exams, each of them have about 12 questions, so it's pretty hard.
Took his calc 1 class over the summer 6-weeks and drove 2 hours round trip 4 days per week. Although it was a lot of work, he's passionate about making sure everyone in the room understands what is going on. He knows every student by name and teaches material that directly correlates with what is on the test. Easy A.
Professor Haile is probably the best math teacher I've ever had. He lectures fast but wants to ensure everyone understands the content. If you don't understand in class, ask him at the end of the class. He's always trying to help. He's so respectful of everyone.
This is a great teacher if you pay attention in class and DO THE HOMEWORK. If you sit and do the Pearson homework over and over again for practice it does help and I can follow along in the 7-week class. ASK QUESTIONS. He gives partial credit on tests. 15 word problems on exams. I prefer more to get a accurate result of understanding.
Class is fairly enjoyable. Lectures go fast, but he will always slow down for questions. He also stays after class, has office hours, and will grant homework extensions. Know your basic math concepts (especially algebra) or else you will be lost. PARTICIPATE!! He will give bonus and/or round grade average. Overall, tough but fair expectations.
Really teaches and is passionate about the material. Very accessible outside of class. Funny and cares about class participation. Ask questions. DONT SKIP CLASS. Homework is hard and time consuming but if you actually do it you'll do great you just got to put in the time. He really wants you to do well you just got to put in the work.
He is a nice and supportive professor! He is very understanding of any special circumstances and is prompt in email responses.
He was amazing and gave me tips on improving certain things about the course. He cared for his students to succeed, and his lectures were good for me to understand and apply to exams and get good grades on them. The only way to pass them is to practice possible questions that could be on the exam. I enjoyed his class and have him as my professor.
Professor Haile is strict but worth it - stay engaged, take thorough notes, and use resources like Unstuckstudy to ace the exams. His lectures are fast-paced but clear, and he genuinely cares about student success.
Prof. Haile is an excellent teacher. He puts a lot of clarity into his lectures and makes it easy to understand. One thing I didn't like is that your exam scores could fluctuate your overall grade, so be prepared. His exams are not difficult and pretty straightforward. He makes sure to make his class worth your time and his teaching is thorough.
If you show up to class, do the homework, and pay attention: you'll do well in his class. Tests are most of your grade, but doing homework helps your grade. He grades heavily on participation but sometimes makes it feel uncomfortable for those who haven't taken Calc already to answer. He tells you what's going to be on the test, no curveball.
If you miss one day, everything will slip
Will take offense if you try to correct him or explain something to him. Assignments have no grading criteria, he expects you to know what he wants. Goes back on his word constantly. Do not trust what he says. When he changes his mind, he does not inform you. Study guides are relatively accurate, about an 80% match to test questions.
My first exam was only 75%. I was completely frustrated! But Professor Haile explained my mistakes and encouraged me to learn harder. As a result, I received 100% on two other Exams. That's incredible!
Professor Haile is an amazing professor. His class can be challenging at times, but if you do the homework and attend office hours, you will pass. The tests are short and contain material that you will have gone over in class. Make sure to participate in class!
I genuinely don't understand why he is rated so low. He is a very open & honest professor, but he does expect you to put in the work. He is lenient on homework due dates and will move them if you ask for more time. In Calc, you need to put in work, but his tests are exactly what he goes over in class. He usually has a copy of the test to ensure so.
He is the best math professor I've had at NVCC. He is tough but ultimately very fair. The tests are short, and homework questions are often a lot harder. He doesn't allow for a formula cheat sheet, but he will teach you how to derive all the formulas, so you don't have to remember them. Take him if you want to learn the material.
I'd take Prof Haile again a million times! Take his class if you want to learn Math. His classes are hard, but they are so good, and I guarantee you'll learn. The homework amount is reasonable and the tests were short but fair. He wants every student to learn and succeed. He is there for you!
Professor Haile is an excellent teacher who explains the course clearly for all learning levels. He's organized, approachable, and focused on student success. Classes involve textbook summaries, practice problems, and helpful study guides for exams. Attend regularly, take notes, ask questions, complete the HW on time, and you'll do well.
Prof. Haile is one of my favorite teachers on Annandale campus, if you can make the drive not only will he explain the proofs but help you understand where you're making mistakes in your problem solving. He is also understanding on certain cases with extending homework. His class has a good chunk of HW but you'll be prepared for the exams if you do
Professor Haile presents excellent lectures, but demands equally bulletproof answers in return. He favors derivation; if formulas are provided, answers will be rigorously scrutinized. Stringent yet fair, he adheres to his syllabus and stands by his words without being unjust. Haile will push you, but never beyond your reach. I highly respect him.
Great class if you have a strong algebra base. Professor Haile is amazing, patient, clear, and thorough. He reviews every question until everyone understands. Attendance isn't required, but don't skip; missing one class makes it hard to follow. I'd take his class again anytime!
Makes understanding things very easy, goes very fast, extremely fair tests. Literally exactly what you go over in class.
He is a great person and teacher but you need to stay on your toes or you will fail this class. was not ready at the beginning of the semester and paid the price for it and would have failed without his office hours who he makes incredibly accessible 3 times a week which is incredible in my opinion and shows he cares.
Amazing prof, if you do not go to lecture, you wont pass. He is very well spoken and speaks very clearly, he does speak really fast at times and its hard to keep up. He is very qualified and brings unique perspectives to the math world. He is very understanding and always insists on asking questions, you are graded on 4 things. Hard class though.
