COMPLETELY AMAZING. Has the passion and enthusiasm about History of a little kid. He never shoves his bias down anyones throat he just teaches the facts which is hard to come by. Not difficult, yet not easy so be prepared. Always helpful and one of the most down to earth people I've ever met. A one of kind teacher and man.
David is an Amazing Teacher!. Very friendly and respects the students. He is organized. Very helpful, he answers e-mails on the weekends. The class is not to difficult you just need to show up to class, pay attention and review your notes. He will go over the essays with you. Also just a really good guy who cares!!!
One of the best history instructors I've ever had. This is the kind of talent you would expect to find at a 4 year university not community college. know your history 5 stars!!
Mr. Halamy is a really straightforeword and detailed professor whos lectures are precise and full of information. Utilizing a minimal test/quiz approach with no daily homework, the class only requires vigorous note taking and textbook review. This Middle East class is very thorough and is very interesting for those interested in political events.
Mr. Halahmy has a pure love of history, something which is becoming more rare these days. His class may be hard and time consuming but his lectures are so full of detail and are very concise. This class paints a better picture of middle eastern affairs and how they affect us today. A really great class taught by a really great teacher!
David's class is pretty tough and you really have to pay attention and put in at least 4 study hours before each test to do well. The good part is that he is very helpful and will help u go over the material if you ask and he gives you the essays ahead of time. If you are good at history you may not have to work as hard but dont count on it.
AMAZING Professor! Knows his material and really cares about it and his students. He helped me through some really hard times this year and for that I'm very grateful. MEH may be hard but he's really good at teachin it unbiasedly although sometimes he leans a little. He now lets you have a notecard for tests, but dont be fooled, they're still tough
He's good but his political views slip into his lectures. Also he hates debate so if you like history and have prior knowledge it might not be such a great idea to take him. Also he can get really annoying I know a lot of people love him but I just didn't get why.
I took Mr. H. for a three hour evening class it was the most PLEASANT experience I had in college. He is organized, passionate, and helpful. He came in 1 hour early to help me study. The class time flew by! His love of history and teaching is contagious!!! I also enjoyed the class discussion of the readings it helped me understand them much more.
His History of the middle east class was awesome!! You learn so much. Worth taking!!
Took all three classes David teaches. History 110,111 and 165. Great class! Great Professor!
He is a very good teacher! He is so passionate about what he is teaching that you are excited to learn and want to learn. You need to study and learn all the ID and final. He gives you the prompts for everything before hand. The quizzes are tricky so you need to read only the primary source book. He is not to hard of a grader but you need to study
He was the best teacher I've ever had. I seriously fell in love with history and I learned so much. When I walk around I would see things that he's taught me and it gets me really excited because what I've learned has actually come to use! He's great, you MUST TAKE HIS CLASS!! He'll change your whole perspective of history.
I LOVE THIS PROF!!!! He was easy to understand, interesting, and you could totally tell that history was his passion. One of the greatest things about his teaching style is that before any big test, he gives you a list of everything you need to study. Then he chooses off that list for the test. Will take as many classes from him as i can!FIVE STARS
His class can be kind of challenging, but if you show up every day and pay attention you should be able to pass. Textbook not really needed, but can be helpful. He is a good teacher and keeps the class pretty interesting but he seems to pick favorites in the class. If you are going to take history, he is a good choice.
I loved this class! I never enjoyed history until I took a course with Mr. Halahmy. He is without a doubt the best teacher I have ever had. Helps everyone who needs it. just go to his office with the review sheet and he will prepare you for the exam really well!
Halahmy is the best history teacher there is. History was never my strong subject but he changed my entire outlook on it. His lectures were amazing. Be sure to show up to class as it is 10% of your overall grade. There are also 3 quizzes and a midterm and final.
Seems like everyone's telling him he's the best! Because its true. Did enjoy my class with him. I am glad I took his class for general ed requirements
A natural teacher!!! Cares very much and wants you to do well. He knows his material and he is a gifted speaker. You can't help but enjoy the course. You can't go wrong if you take one his courses. :) really good guy.
Very clear and very helpful. also easy to talk to he is very down to earth. Looking forward to taking another class with him!
Great teacher, Great Class. Everyone should take this class and get a basic perspective on history. I would take him again.
Very good professor, got an A in the class but it was very challenging. So many IDs to remember for the midterm and final !!
Class is pretty tough and a lots of informations
You do learn a lot in the class, but it is not very hard. Mr. Halahmy gives you a review sheet with all the questions before so just study it and it is easy. Also, like everyone says the class is lots of fun! and he really has a passion for teaching and History. great class!!!
unless you slack off BIG time or don't show up for the class, this class is easy A. Even if u get B in both of his tests, you can still get an A in his class. Good class to take to boost your GPA.
Blah he's okay
OMG! he is passionate and full of energy. He deeply cares about history and teaching and students!!!!! Love his courses!
David Halahmy is an extremely knowledgable and passionate instructor. Because he's passionate about what he teaches, he explains everything thoroughly which facilitates learning. This class is highly recommended!
He's one of my favorite professor now. I'd recommend you to take this class and fulfill your GE. It's easy to get an A if you put effort into it, you shouldn't expect to not learning anything in a HIST class right ;) Def not a slacker class though! Remember to stick with the study topics and prepare for the final essay ahead of time!!!
Read like your life depends on it. Recommend good essay skills as his In-class essays are brutal. Lots of things to remember. Must have the passion to learn or this will destroy you. I thought this would be an easy A, but I'm horrible at In-class essays. Your grade is entirely made from Tests and Quizzes. Studying is EXTREMELY mandatory.
Very passionate about teaching. must go to class for lecture but the lecture is very clear and straight forward. It requires a lot of memorization. only a 100 point class, 30 point mid term 30 point final 3 10 point quizzes and 10 on attendance and participation.
Took his 111 and 165 classes. Both are amazing classes! I wish all the professors cared as much as he does. class is not to challenging if you study, and you will learn a lot! fun, informative and helpful. A must take professor for at least one class.
RMP (Rate My Professor)/ RPM (Professor Halahmy) Ironic similar acronymn! In the course of a semester, this Professor literally takes you on a historical journey unlike any other! He absolutely instills a passion for history! Unbelievably great person and without a doubt the best Cypress has. A must take Instructor - is that outstanding.
Most legit teacher at cypress, he tells you what will be on the test, no trick questions, straightforward, interesting, considerate, and cares a lot for his students. Great professor
Very hard class, but enjoyed every moment. Lectures are just awesome and I never wanted to miss them! Always said what would be on tests, midterm and final. Not too much extra credit opportunity.
Person below is obviously lazy and can't do math. 1 pt. per e.c. is reasonable for a 100 pt. class. Halahmy is very helpful and works hard to prepare very students. Expectations are very clear. I have since moved on to a 4 year and Halahmy's class is good prep for those upper division classes. Your in college buddy! (get used to it). He is awesome!
This instructor is perhaps the fines Cypress has!!! He will definitely be your best ally if you allow him to be. Put forth some enthusiasm and effort and don't forfeit your potential of having an amazing educational experience. A must take professor! Enjoy!
I took both his 110 and 111. Compared to Carol Lewis this guy REALLLLLY knows how to teach. Very easy class, got A's in both. However quizzes you need to get at least 90% in. Those are the easiest grade you cant rack up. Tests require bit of studying, but he grades easy. Fun class, dude is quite chill.
If you have any interest in history, take this course. If you dont have any interest in history, but need credits, take this course. There is a lot of reading to be done, but you can get by without most of it. He is very clear in his instructions and grades rather fairly.
This class will make you work. You must take notes and be there for every lecture. Quizzes & exams are easy but you must study. He is also very helpful & seems to care for his students. Would have him as a prof again
WOW what an interesting course. Learned so much useful information and yes he genuinely passionate about history and helping students better ourselves. It is a beautiful thing! some east extra credit is there from the readings that help your grade :)
This instructor gives very interesting and entertaining lectures, and there is no homework. On the downside his quizzes and exams are very difficult. He expects a lot more of his students than most instructors.
Great teachr passionate about history. Fair class where you get the grade you earn. Study and youll be fine.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. This class is very easy if you're good at studying, but the best part about it is how fun and interesting it is. It feels like your going to watch a movie every lecture he gives. Also, the 3 hour night version of this class goes by quickly, so you don't have to worry about it getting boring.
Amazing teacher, and amazing class. This specific course that Halahmy teaches is a lot of fun to learn about, because a lot of the stuff that is discussed is new for most people that take it. This can also make it tougher to study, though. There is also a presentation project that is assigned, but it is very easy.
If you're a George Lucas fan then avoid taking his classes cause he's negative towards him as if Lucas went to his house and stole his door mat. Because of that, I discontinue ever attending History classes.
Took History 110 and Looking forward to taking history 111! Can't wait to hear David explain the most amazing historical events. He does it so well!!!!!!
I went into this class with an extreme love of history and came out of it questioning if I would ever take another history class again. All I can say is be ready for incomprehensible white board writing, have at least two notebooks that you are ready to fill with notes, and if you question this teacher (on anything) he will get flustered.
this was the most enjoyable and interesting course I ever took! David is VERY clear and VERY helpful. He goes out of his way to help students. A class act!
This professor is amazing! He recites speeches and poems by heart. He REALLY wants students to do well. you will learn a lot, but he gives a review sheet and all you need to do is ask him for help and he will go over the sheet with you. If you love history you will love this class, and if you don't love history you will be the end of the class :)
passionate and informative. Interesting and fun. wants students to do well. Knows his stuff, clear no nonsense class. pauses for questions during lectures in case you miss something. he likes it when you ask questions.
I love history teachers because they're always enthusiastic about the subject. Halahmy is no different. Gives lots of information with great stories. He really wants you to do well, gives study guides and what-not. Read, take good notes, and viola great class experience and grade!
a breath of fresh air, a professor who has one priority and that is for you to do well. He has also traveled the world it is great to have a history professor who has been to so many historical places. He brings in his book smarts and also what you can never get from reading a book. I love going to class!!!!!
One of the most interesting courses I ever took. History 110 was also a lot of fun. Can't wait to take history 111 as well. You do have to be willing to review and study and write essays if you do that the class is not very hard. He is also very willing to help you learn!! He knows his stuff and really cares about students :) :) :) great guy!
EEEE! David Halahmy is a very goofy man! His lectures are actually very interesting and he does his best to make them fun. n_n I had no interest in Western Civilizations previously but he's definitely got me looking forward to the next day's lecture! ^~^ He has a very cut personality and I would recommend him to anyone who needs History credits! x3
He's funny and every clear about his lecture. You will learn a lot! I like everything about him except his irritated face expression when you interrupt him. Also you HAVE to be on time to class or else he will lock the door.
I'm not sure how I'd order the overall top 5 best teachers I've had in my life...but I know he'd be on the list.
This is my 5th semester at Cypress, and he is BY FAR my fav teacher. If all teachers were as good as him, we'd all stay in (and look forward to) class. His passion for teaching History shines through. Super interesting class that is worth your while. Don't walk in late...he HATES that and will call you out on it in front of class!
Heads up so you dont mess this up, there are only 100 pionts possible in his class. 2 tests 30pts ea; 3 quizes 10pts ea & 10pts for attendance. He gives a study guide which is broad but helpful. Be there, study for the tests and you will do fine. He is rlly passionate about history; keeps it interesting & will help you prepare for the exams.
It is an absolute joy to attend this class, it is worth taking the course just for the WWII lectures!!
Maybe the best teacher i have every had, one of the most passionate class i have every taken. i wish that other teacher were as passionate as him because you really do pay attention and learn everything. At first i thought i wouldn't remember anything but you really do. Take his class you won't regret it
My favorite teacher of all time, i never really study Western Civilizations but upon taking this course he changed my mind.
He is a strict, but a very fair professor. He is extremely passionate about history and encourages his students to be the same in anything they do. He makes the class really fun. Don't be late, take good notes, don't use your cell, and you can skip on buying the book. Just go to the library and read what you need to, which is not a lot.
Best teacher, hands down. He is not only a great teacher but also makes sure that he can help you in any way. He comes to his office super early to help his students but will come even earlier if you make an appointment with him. His classes are definitely worth taking!
He's an amazing professor. He makes learning history fun. His tests are hard but you'll definately walk out of there knowing more.
Prof. Halahmy is one of the greatest teachers that I have ever had. He's extremely helpful and willing to assist a student no matter what. His lectures are engaging and never get dull. The tests are tough but very fair; just study a little every day and take good notes and you'll do great! Oh, make sure to be on time! ^-^
In high school, history classes were to me, the least interesting. Halahmy's class, on the other hand, is one of the most intriguing classes ever. He is super passionate about the subject and is an overall great teacher. He is very friendly and is polite to all students. He will change your mind about the subject no matter what. Highly recommend.
I took both of his classes, 111 then 110 (I know, it's backward.) He is a very passionate instructor. Loves teaching history and he makes his class fun to attend. You will have to work for an A though, I recommend working on midterms and finals as soon as he hands out the review sheet.
Prof. Halahmy has my highest praise. He teaches with great passion. He's not boring and he's very funny. He doesn't tolerate tardiness. He gives you the study guides at least a month in advance for both the midterm and final. He has about 3 quizzes that are relatively easy if you studied. You must purchase both of the required texts to do well.
Great class and not that hard. All you do is study the review sheet he gives you. Also VERY caring and VERY helpful. Want you to do well. You just can't go wrong with this class. :)
I love this class. David is such a great teacher and knows what he is talking about. Take good notes he doesn't use PP. Quizzes are from primary source readings. Didn't really need the book, never read it. He gives a study guide for mid-terms far in advance and I suggest starting on them ASAP. You will need to know them to do well.
He's everything a professor should be. Very passionate, knowledgeable, funny, friendly, helpful, a natural educator (didn't take any teaching courses). I'm a bio major and I found the class very interesting and informative. I walked out of the class knowing much more. He wants you to learn not just history but who you are. Just take him!
He is one of the best professors at Cypress. His passion for teaching shines through in every lecture. He wants his students to succeed. He loves history and his enthusiasm for the subject spreads. He does not use power-points so it important to show up to every class ON TIME. He is rather sweet and easy to talk to and always there to help. STUDY.
Great professor. Definitely knows what he's doing. Learned a lot from him and a cool study method that can be used for other classes.
This guy is passionate about history and extremely brilliant. His course on the history of the Middle East was a piece of cake. We need more professors like David. Overall a really great learning experience.
I don't like history at all, but the professor's energy is infectious and the class can be pretty interesting. You're required to read the textbook on your own time and some questions on quizzes are from it. All topics for the midterm/final are given early beforehand.
This is a very enthusiastic teacher. Highly recommend you to take him. He is very helpful and makes time to help you if you need individual time. He is their to help you pass and if you dont pass is because you not him. The only problem is that you take a lot of notes mostly of what he talks about and not what he writes their is no powerpoints
Really into his lectures. I really enjoyed him. Very interesting. I read everything he required and took good notes, which helped for tests and quizzes. he has a lot of ID essays so be sure to prewrite before the test. A lot of work, but he's a great teacher.
He's friendly and entertaining. His lectures are not boring, they're more like stories. You need to be really good at taking notes. Go to every lecture and it shouldn't be too bad. The work load can be intense, especially if you procrastinate! Fill-in-the-blank quizzes and essay tests, but they're easy if you take detailed notes and review them.
David is really passionate about what he does and what he can do to help students. Tips for the class: take detailed notes, and start on the study guides when they're handed out. Quizzes are fill in the blank and exams are ALL written.
I love this teacher, He made this 8am class go by so quickly! He is very passionate in History as you can tell because he is so animated. He offers help and extra credit. He memorizes your name and is very easy to talk to if you need help. Pay attention to lectures and take good notes and you'll pass:)
David is one of the most amazing professors I have ever had. So many teachers nowadays have the attitude of "I have to be here", yet David has the approach of "I WANT to be here". His passion for history shows through his lectures. I promise that even if you aren't interested in history, you will enjoy this class. And start the study guides early!!
What a great course. This Prof is amazing. I learned so much and he really wants you to do well. Everything is clear, he is full of passion and energy and he will help you with the essays if you go to his office.
Hard class ! BUT Interesting teacher & subject. He hates ppl who walk in late. So much stuff to take in. Constant writing. Midterm & final STUDY GUIDE is 50 terms that you define by who, what, when, where, why, etc & he picks 8, you do 5 & they have to be half of a page. THEN 4 essays to outline & you do one. You don't need the text book.
Wonderful class! It is not to difficult if you study the review sheet ahead of time, and he will go over everything with you before the exam. Very Helpful!!
Great dude! Very helpful and is willing to discuss or clarify things after hours. Lectures are not boring at all as if he is telling a story. Take a lot of good notes and you will be fine. One thing though is if you don't like writing at all don't take his class because Midterm and Final are all essay based.
Hands down best lecturer I ever had in my entire academic career. He makes history FUN and ENTERTAINING! Be prepared to furiously jot down EVERYTHING he says b/c his quizzes and exams are mostly based on lecture. Read the Beatty book on schedule for random extra credit opportunities. If you want an A, do NOT mess up even on a single quiz/test.
Everyone already comments on how amazing the history class is. What made the class special for me was how enthusiastic, and positive he was. He has an amazing attitude that makes you want to come to class and learn. just a wonderful man.
I took all three of his history courses. Halahmy is not an easy professor. You need to study for quizzes and midterm and I mean really study such as making flash cards and writing out all ID's and Essays for midterm & final. What makes him great is his ability to lecture history so interesting. It's like story time, you don't wanna miss it.
He's the best sooo passionate about his work and extremely helpful
Great teacher, wants specific answers, A is possible with notes, ID and essay review (takes time). Attendance is apart of your grade so be on time. 2 Books are used, textbook mainly for your IDs and info.Primary source book is for more info and random extra credit chances (names of people, documents, main idea). Gives study guide for essay.
David is an AWESOME teacher. Very passionate about his job. You will need to take down notes, study the note, and read the sources make the A. Pretty easy class if you're not lazy.
Professor Halahmy has an extraordinary teaching expertise. He has the ability to engage his students deeply into his lectures. Its as if he was telling a campfire story. He has high expectations for his students which is why he may demand for so much. You won't get passed this class without studying adequately. A quality instructor.
Wonderful class you do need to study to do well. cares about student success and will help you with exams if you go to his office.
He is: 1) Super chill (unless you're texting in class) 2) Super entertaining 3) Very inspiring, almost feels like a father sometimes 4) Crystal clear about EVERYTHING 5) Doesn't let you get away with any stuff on the exam, but make what he wants very clear. 6) He's so good you should take him just for the experience.
Really nice and willing to help but be ready for a class that will take a lot of your time. It's pretty difficult and you need to study to pass and you need to be there as well. The grading is based only off quizzes and tests so there is no room to mess up. If you can't devote your time to this class don't take it.
Great class. :)
Wonderful class. Easy if you study :)
I really enjoyed his lectures. He's very passionate about history and loves doing his job. This class is NOT EASY but you learn a lot and retain a lot of information. It forces you to actually memorize the history that he teaches. Only two exams and three quizzes. Don't miss class and don't be on your phone. Most classes are lectures.
Informative lectures; impossible writing on board to note take; tough to absorb scribbles on board - lacks clarity. No diagramsteaching aids.
Lectures are fun and interesting. He is also a great mentor.
Professor Halahmy's style of teaching forces the student to really learn the material if good grades are to be expected. Exams account for 60% of the grade, and they are both in-class essays. He is quite passionate about what he teaches which makes his lectures very engaging. If you're willing to do some work, his courses are worth the experience.
An awesome teacher who genuinely cares about his subject as much as his students. He makes learning even the most rudimentary history fun and engaging. Definitely one of my favorite teachers here, but that doesn't mean his class is easy. You HAVE to take good notes and be ready studypay attention in his class. You will earn the grade you receive.
Go to class, don't be late. Take good notes. Prepare for the midterm and final. He's there to help. AWESOME lectures, never dull. Book is helpful. Highly recommend taking this professor. Definitely easy on the eyes.
Professor Halahmy is truly a passionate professor and gives the class his all. The class is not the easiest for those unfamiliar with history but the criteria and grading system used in the class is completely fair. Nothing is multiple choice on his exams but you are given a study guide WAY ahead of time so study up. His WWII lecture was AMAZING.
Prof Halahmy is very passionate about what he teaches. He does not take any slackers, and will call them out if necessary. In that case, students understand that he truly cares about their success. He makes material very fun, and tries his best to be entertaining at the same time as educational. Would recommend taking him.
if you show up and pay attention, take good notes, review your notes and study them you should pass. his tests are hard because they are only 10 questions long. if you learn by reading and don't take notes from his lectures, you might not pass. i found that the study guide was not very helpful. one of the worst teachers ive ever had.
This is the best class I have ever taken. The study guide is GOLD! He tells you what possible Essays will be on the exam and will go over them with you before the exam. You just have to put in some time on your own to prep them. Plus his lectures are fun and super informative. Easy the best professor I have had.
Wonderful class, very helpful. Learned so much!
Professor Halahmy is definitely an amazing teacher. He offers help, so take it when he does. He makes his lectures fun to listen to and he is not boring when he tells them. He's very upbeat but strict at the same time. This is a teacher who wants you to pass. Take his class, you won't regret it i promise.
This is a serious class for serious students. It is not difficult if you show up to class, and do some basic reading. You can't miss classes to do well. He is very helpful and wants students to do well. He knows his stuff. The study guide is super helpful! use it!!! he gives the occasionally pop quiz on the reading for extra credit. :)
Amazing class. Very informative. Would take several classes with this professor. Very helpful.
Strict on attendance, but you dont want to miss the class. Info is critical. You work for your grade, so USE the study methods he provides. They work. 3 quizzes, 2 tests, and participation are your entire grade. Tests are bluebook so if you dont study, you will not do well. His study methods are guaranteed to get you an A. Really interesting class
David is probably the best teacher at Cypress College, at least from the courses I've taken. His lectures are absolutely amazing. This may be subjective, but this is the one teacher for the course where you are excited to attend. His tests can be difficult and require some thinking, especially on the essays but he will help you in any way possible.
If you're actually taking this for your major class, this is defintely an amazing class. His lectures are amazing, having taken them at 8AM every other day I had not once felt sleepy. This is my first history class I actually learned something in. However if you are looking for an easy A or just a easy class don't take it. Too much work needed.
This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. There are 3 quizzes and 2 tests; only the midterm and final. And they are all extremely difficult. I WOULD NOT recommend this professor to anyone.
The class is in no way difficult if you take the time to study. There is a review sheet with all the topics and he will go over it with you. You basically have all the answers before the exam. More importantly you will learn a lot and it is very enjoyable.
David is absolutely fantastic. i have never had a teach so invested in what he teaches. Lectures usually run the entire class, but I was pretty engaged most of the time so it never bothered me. Tests require studying, a lot, but he practically gives all of the information to you in class so it is no big deal .
Prof Halahmy is able to effectively convey hundreds of years of history to his students. Memorizing all the information is not easy; however, he utilizes every minute of class so his lectures are not a waste of time but essential. He does his best to give you all the tools to succeed but it isn't a class you can slack off in.
Not only has Mr. Halahmy been an amazing professor, he has also been a great mentor. He cares not only about how students do in class, but how they do in life. Class is also easy if you follow the study guide he gives. Does take some time, but you learn a lot, and lectures are fun!
All around great class. A must take course!!!!!
Professor Halahmy is an amazing professor. This is my second time taking one of his course, and he honestly doesn't disappoint. I admit the tests requires you to actually study for, but he's very helpful. Just pay attention and do the study guides and you'll be fine. You don't even need to read the book at times if you took detailed notes!
David is probably one of the greatest teachers I've ever come to know. He makes is classes worthwhile. There is a lot of material to study for the exams, just take excellent notes and you will be fine. He is definitely worth taking! I've taken him 3 times!
His lectures are fun! I'm not into history, war, memorizing dates, and what not. I really like him as a professor. He's passionate and an amazing teacher. The subject just wants me to roll over and go to sleep. Do required readings, keep up with syllabus, and do study guide!!! ESSAY midterm/final, give no extra credit! Good luck!
His lectures are very interesting! He is very passionate about what he teaches and he supplies the students with great information and insight. Reading from the textbook is required; quizzes are mainly taken out of the lectures so attendance is mandatory! Midterm and final are not bad if you take advantage of the study guide he gives out.
Best Professor ever.
David has become my favorite teacher by far. Before I took his class, I liked history. After taking his class I was in love with history. He is very passionate about what he teaches, so its easy to be engaged. He helps you out if you need it and he really cares about his students. If you put in the work for this class, you learn so much.
He is very passionate about history and his class is interesting. But i give him a low rating because of how difficult the class was. Lots of reading, note taking, and long lectures. he expects students to know just as much as he does. His tests are very difficult. If you want an easy A, try a different teacher.
He is always there to help you learn! Gives a review sheet for the exams which is great! And super easy to follow. An absolutely must take course!
you read 3 books back & forth (READD!!) you need to memorize so many names he says you don't need to memorize dates but many names are repeated so dates help separate who is who he basically grade like this: 10% Quiz 1 10% Quiz 2 10% Quiz 3 30% Midterm 30% Final 10% Attendance - he is strict about attendance Add the total : Your Grade
Always there for you. Would take another of his courses. Enjoyable clear and not to difficult if you put in some time.
this class is hard. let me say it again for the people in the back THIS CLASS IS HARD. but david is so amazing. history is one of my favorite subjects but sometimes the classes are so awful. this one however was incredible. i even cried during a lecture from how passionate the message was. i loved it but i not gonna lie i pretty much failed.
Key to this class is being staying on top of the lectures. The book helps, but the lectures are the main thing. And use the study guide and prep for quizzes like he tells you. It works. Super class.
amazing!
Very interesting course. Professor has lots of passion and really knows the material. Love taking the course. And always there to help :)
His passion shines through during the lectures. He really wants the students to do well in life, not just learn history. Loved his classes.
Professor David really enjoys teaching History. His quizzes are very hard, and he is a tough grader. His exams and quizzes are not multiple choice questions.
Give a great review sheet before the big exams and tells you exactly how to study for the quizzes. No surprises. Also very much is willing to help. go to his office and he will make sure you have everything right before you take the exam. there is work, but if you study the right way class is super easy
Super helpful outside of class. Went to seem him several times during the semester, helped me make an "A" in the class. Will take again for sure.
He's very enthusiastic in the class. There isn't really any homework for the class except for really preparing for the quizzes and mid-final. The syllabus might look scary since there are only a few points in the class, but he's clear in what he wants. Not a hard class definitely try him out.
Well if you're going to take David's class, don't let him disappointed because you didn't read the book before class lol. Amazing teacher who makes me love history
He's a super cool teacher and encourages questions. His passion always makes the lectures interesting. You really have to study for his quizzes/midterm/final, but he knows that so he gives 0 homework. It's fairly easy to pass the class, but you have to really work to get an A. Highly recommend ^
I hate history but with him he makes it so interesting. Participation comes easy because class is fun and he makes the material easy to understand and remember to study. DEFINITELY CANT SKIP CLASS or else you'll be lost. But his grading is clear and quizzes are easy as long as you study a good amount nothing too difficult to get an A.
Best professor at Cypress College. You enjoy going to class and he cares about the students. He expects the students to be responsible.
Professor David is a very caring person. I can admit that his lectures are long and he moves at a fast pace, however this does not discount his evident passion and quality of work. Moreover, he is open to clearing up any confusions. If you are a messy writer, I highly recommend taking notes on google docs. Certainly helped me!
By far the best experience you can have at Cypress College. He presents the information in a clear way, encourages students to think, and creates such a positive learning atmosphere. Great teacher and a wonderful man.
David is an amazing professor. You don't have to be good at history to pass his class, just be willing to put in the work. He lets you know what's going to be on the midterm DAY ONE. Be prepared to pay attention and show up to class, missing one day will set you behind. His lectures are interesting and you will learn a lot from him!
David was an amazing teacher! I never thought history lectures could be so interesting. He does not use power points for lectures, it is all verbal, so you have to pay attention and take notes, but he is always happy to repeat if you didn't hear. He assigns work weeks in advance, so I advise you to start immediately. DO NOT WAIT TILL LAST MINUTE to do the study guide. His exams are all written. No multiple choice. Highly recommend this class! If you do the work and don't procrastinate, it's an easy A.
I took David in a summer course and was blown away at how awesome his class was. It was a pain in the butt getting to school at 8am everyday but his lectures were worth it. Although it was less reading than the usual full semester, it was still a handful. You have to keep up with it or else you wont pass. He's very knowledgeable and passionate.
Sticking to the point, David's class is structured. His lectures are good but don't get overhyped like its storytime. Problems with a summer class, he goes into the minute details and covers a lot of material. So if you want an A you can only afford to miss 1-2 questions per quiz/exam. If you're down to study hard in the summer, it's a great class.
I first took David the fall of 2016 and I enjoyed his class so much I decided to take another two classes with him Spring semester of 2017. He is a gifted story teller who genuinely cares about his students. He often times tells students to visit him at his office hours to help go over rough drafts for the essays on midterm and final
I took his history of the middle east class and the lectures were very interesting. He teaches with passion and enthusiasm and you can see that when youre in his class. He tells you exactly what hes looking for in his midterm, final, and quizzes. If you want an A, it's easy to get if you study!!
David Halahmy, informative. It is daunting to see the grading criteria, but the class isn't to hard. Don't need to read textbook, the smaller two books just get a general idea. Study guide is important, use it. Quizzes are an easy way to get points but study for it. Don't need to study the way he states, do what works for you.
he is an okay professor but I would not take him again. his lectures are not from a power point so he writes on the board but it really inst in any organized way. There is a study guide but he is not clear on what exactly is on the exams so make sure to study literally everything he lectures on. Treats students like children which is annoying.
This is a great class! He gives a study guide, and will even sit with you in his office to go over it with you. There is no reason you can't make an "A" in his class. He also loves helping students. Everything is 100% clear on what you need to do to do well in the class.
Excellent teacher. Always there to help students. You can tell he loves teaching.
This class is so much fun! He does give some extra credit do the reading that will help you for the extra points during the semester. Just an all around great class and great experience. You will learn A LOT but it is super enjoyable and everything you need to do is super clear!
Heck yeah would take his class again! Going to! Can't wait to take another course with him. You do have to work a bit for a good grade, but his lectures are so engaging that you don't mind studying.
David clearly has a passion for history, but I did not enjoy his class at all. His tests are based on his lectures, so if you do not take notes then you might not get the grade that you wanted. Hard work is a must if you want that A. Most def. would not take again.
Easy class if you put some time in. Gives you a review sheet, and will go over it with you. I showed him all my essays before the exam and he told me what to do to make an A. Cant ask for more. Answers email very fast.
The History of the Middle East with Prof. Halahmy was one of the most fascinating courses at Cypress. I turn on the news and now I actually understand what is going on there. Also you can tell he is popular with the students b/c at least 3/4 of the class had taken a different course with him before. He knew almost everyone by name on first day
Great class. Not much else to add that others have not said. A must take course at Cypress College
Best class ever!!! Goes out of his way to help students, and wants students to do well!
David was a fantastic teacher. I never did well in history till i took his class. He is just so passionate about history that it makes you want to to better in his class out of respect for the education you are getting from him. he is also very funny and light hearted during lectures. i have the up most respect David. one of the best teachers ever
David is a great teacher. I never did well in history till i took his class. He is just so passionate about history that it makes you want to to better in his class out of respect for the education you are getting from him. he is also very funny and light hearted during lectures. i have the up most respect David. one of the best teachers ever
Stays on topic, tells you want you need to know to do well, and is very helpful. Also really cares about the students. He does expect you to act like an adult. Great class, best prof on the campus.
A professor that truly cares about his students success.
Great teacher. First professor I've met on campus with common sense. Not an easy A, but a relatively simple class. Quizzes are fill in the blank with an extra credit question or two. Exams are hand written essays, and a couple of short answer questions.
You do need to be on time and he expects you to act like an adult, but his class is the best experience you can have at college. He is an amazing professor, very fair grading policy and the class is not difficult if you do some basic studying. Plus lecutres are lots of fun!!!
I really enjoyed this course. looking forward to taking History 110 as well. Not a super hard class, just take good notes, use the review sheet and do some light reading.
An amazing man. Cares about everyone, loves teaching. Best experience at Cypress college.
Very good professor , learned a lot by him. He loves his job so much and it shows when he gives lectures. There are I believe 2 big exams that you have to read from the textbooks since they are essay questions he doesn't do multiple choice. Show up, take a lot of notes and you'll be fine.
David is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He makes learning enjoyable. He's very energetic and a good lecturer. His classes are always full. He really wants his students to succeed. He clearly emphasizes main points. He reviews well and is available to help after class.
He comes to each class with such a positive attidude! You can so tell he loves his job and his lectures are amazing. Truly cares about students. At some point take at least one class with him.
By far the best teacher you can have at Cypress. Cares about his students, very clear, and there to help you.
He is amazingly passionate about what he does and I really enjoyed showing up to class but in order to pass it's too much memorizing. Tests made up 90% of the class grade, they were never multiple choice, and the final was an essay. He needs to keep in mind that remembering facts is very difficult for some of us.
Great class, if you are a first year college student he will give you a lot of good advice on how to prepare well for all your other classes.
Great professor!! Straight forward with that he expects. A bit of intimidating study load for exams but teaches you the whole idea. Gives you terms ahead. Has 3 quizes and 1 in class essay final. He gives you lectures and it is up to you on taking good notes. Requires two books both essential to passing the final. Very open! Dont be afraid to ask!
THIS IS THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN MY LIFE. This guy cares about what he teaches and even though it was a good amount of work, it was all worth it because he made the lectures interesting. I've taken 2 out of his 3 classes and thinking about taking his 3rd class just for fun lol.
Great class, not difficult, walks you through everything you need to know.
Man o man. David is one serious history professor. He loves his subject to the core and it shows in his lectures. However, I feel like for someone taking the class for credit towards GE's... this is way too into details. If you do not like history or have trouble memorizing, do not take him. You have to memorize the entire lecture from each class.
He is a great professor if you show up to class everyday and take great notes, otherwise if you're like me and don't show up to class, you will be lost and fall behind real quick!
Not really a hard class as some say. He gives you a review sheet for the final and midterm and goes over it in class and during office hours. basically he tells you the answers for the exams before you take the test. Just put in a little effort. Plus his lectures are a lot of fun and he genuinely cares about the students :)
He should teach other teachers. He has every aspect of a great teacher. Caring, great lectures, fair to students. Must take prof at Cypress college!!
Had him for three classes. Histroy 110,111 and 165. Each class was a wonderful experiance. I easliy learned more in his three classes then all my other classes combined. Gives very clear instructions on how to do well in his course.
Very clear on what you need to do to do well in the class. Looking forward to taking more classes with Prof. Halahmy. Not a histoy major, but learned so much a great course all the way around!
Show up, go over the study guide and take notes. He reviews all the essay topics before the exam. No suprises.
I usually get EASY A's in my GE classes but you definitely had to work for it in this class. Your notes are based on his lectures so if he talks too fast you have to go to office hours to get the info you missed. He gives you a study guide, but exams are free response and theres about 40 terms and 4 essay prompts you have to memorize (which is ALOT
Loved this class! Like everyone says, give a study guide, use it, it really helps. And show up to class, he basically outlines the essays for you before the exam. Show up, take good notes, really not to bad, plus just lots of fun!
Very upfront with students, he really wants you to pass his class, show up to class all the time, put in some work and he takes it into account. I would take his class just to learn history. If you are in need of a GE class, you will enjoy this one!! Yeah you do have to study to pass, but this is college
David is a great professor I have ever taken. He is transparent about the syllabus and is always on top of things. He is funny and the way he story-tells about history always kept me engaged. You will have to take good notes, but he is also clear on what you should be taking notes on. Since he's such a great person, I'm taking HIS111 next semester.
He's honestly the best teacher I have EVER taken! Please take him. Just the way he lectures is so enticing and you will learn a lot. Take good notes, bc that's what his quizzes and tests will be on. He gives a list of topics he will test you on for the midterm & final, which makes it really easy. Quizzes arent hard either but you do have to study
I took professor Halahmy's classes a few years ago before transferring to a university. I still reference his classes often for my schoolwork today, and in my personal life. His lectures are in-depth, concise, and presented almost like the telling of an oral-history instead of facts and figures. Class is very enjoyable, and he is fair and helpful!
Always replies to emails quickly, and very organized lectures, easy to follow. Stays focused on the great events in history and shows how it all impacts us today. Good stuff.
I am taking his course now, and I just want to say that he has been amazing moving his normal class to the online format in the middle of the semester. He put up great audio lectures, some fun you tube videos, and is honestly more responsive to emails then the online courses I have taken before. I miss his in person class, but learning a lot!
Great class professor is really passionate. But should get better at addressing students over certain things and not treating them as little middle school kids. We went from in class to online class and it was ridiculous he gave us 10x the work. Wouldnt take this class again. Beware he will yell at you in front like if u are a little kid
Great class, We had to go online and he made it so smooth. He also asked us for feedback as to what worked well. He replies to emails very fast, and made it a great class. You can see his passion even in his audio lectures. If you need to take an online class this is the one!
I had several classes last semester that had to go to the online teaching. His was the best! Very fair, always helpful, and gives you a review sheet before the big exams. :)
Great class, looking forward to taking another one with him. VERY responsive to emails. That really helped the 2nd part of the semester when we had to go online. Also everything really clear and organized. And like everyone says, just great lectures!
great but extremely fast-paced lectures. i felt he was too demanding near the end of the semester. i was sick during quarantine and missed the midterm so he made me write five essays. he also crunched the final exam which takes two days into one since he was scared students would cheat online.
He is super helpful. Will even review your essays before the exam if you ask him to. So makes it super easy to do well. And lectures are great! No surprises.
Loved his class. Always there to help you. Just put in some effort, don't fall behind and you will do well. Like everyone says, great lectures, makes you enjoy learning. Take this class!!
Lectures are interesting and he makes it fun b/c he is very passionate about history. I would definitely take his class again b/c of how well he lectures. Exams are essays and he gives you multiple prompts and will choose 1. There will also be terms you need to write about.
Really enjoyed his class. Lectures were very interesting. Note taking is a must because of quizzes and exams. The quizzes are very easy. Exams are only a midterm and final. He gives you the possible essay prompts wayyy before the exams so you have enough time to prepare. Just study and youll do great.
Very lecture heavy. All tests are written response (no multiple choice). Tests are difficult if you don't memorize all the information from lectures, a little bit from textbook, and quiz. Definitely, not the class you'd procrastinate in. Other than the hard tests, prof is great. Really wants to help you succeed and loves history.
His way of teaching is basically just story-telling. It sounds brutal but he makes history so much fun. I've never had such an amazing professor and I'm actually taking another one of his classes because I enjoyed the first class a lot. He lectures every class so if you miss a class you risk missing vital information.
His online class is very organized! And he replies back to emails faster then any professor I have taken. Most of the information you need is from his video lectures which are very interesting and easy to follow. He also send reminders which are nice.
He gives you the study guide and you get to use your notes. The exams are timed, but if you prepare everything before the test it is an easy "A" His youtube lectures are also very interesting, and I emailed him many times and always got a quick reply!
Professor Halahmy makes history fun and teaches in a way that is clear and easy to understand. His online course is composed of video lectures that are pre-recorded. It is important to stay on top of the video lectures and take good notes. The quizzes are fill-in-the-blank. The mid-term and final are timed essays. I really enjoyed this class.
I took Professor Halamy for History 111. He is an awesome teacher who really cares about his students. I took him online this semester, Fall 2020, and he created Youtube videos of all of his lectures. You can go back and view them as many times as you like, which is helpful in preparing for his exams. I would definitely take him again!!
Listen... he is my favorite professor at Cypress because he actually puts in the EFFORT when it came to quarantine lessons. This man got a whole backdrop in his videos and stuff. His lectures were posted weekly, and there were a few assignments like discussion boards in his class sometimes. Exams aren't too difficult as long as you take good notes
At first I thought it was boring class but Professor Halahmy puts his best effort in making sure the students understand,he is fun and gives you many opportunities to raise your grade even though he gives you very few points. His readings are on YouTube videos that he made himself and you can see it several times.
Took Western Civ I online. Lectures are all easy to follow and he very clearly tells you what you need to know for exams. 4 Quizzes that are multiple-choice and 2 tests that are 5 paragraphs and 1 essay. Lectures are interesting as well, highly recommend them. No other assignments (except the occasion discussion board) so easy to work whenever.
Professor Halahmy is a great teacher! Due to COVID, most of the class is asynchronous but there are occasional Zooms. His class is based on pre-recorded lectures, & can be a bit lengthy (30min-1hr) but are interesting to watch. The workload is adequate. TAKE NOTES. Exams/Quizzes are based on lectures and are open notes/books. Would recommend.
I cannot say enough! I took his 110 class and now I am taking the 111. You do not have to go to Zooms, you can listen on your own time, just take notes as he talks, he gives you a review sheet, try to keep up, you are actually learning, he makes it very interesting. He give you just enough work to really understand the stuff, not demanding.
He is the best of Cypress College, cares about students, treats us with respect, grades assignments quickly, replies to email same day. Knows his stuff and presents it in a very interesting way. He even volunteered at the local senior center to do lectures for them.
I took Professor Halahmy's HIS111 class during spring semester of 2021, and he was an amazing professor. Some of his lectures were long, but all extremely interesting because you can tell he's passionate. Midterm and exam are a lot but so so easy if you prepare ahead of time. Loved this class, 10/10 would recommend Professor Halahmy for any class!
He's a great teacher I loved the way he taught his lectures. The way he would teach his lectures were like they were stories which made it pretty interesting. Although his lectures from time to time were more than 25 mins. So I would get bored but his class wasn't hard but you do have to work for your grade. I didn't even read the textbooks lol
Took History 110 and 111. He loves to help students and is very knowledgeable, I also like the little bit of life advice he gives. gives some great perspectives on history & everything is clear to follow. if you take good notes while watching his lectures it is a super easy class, b/c you can use the notes on the exams.
Great class for a GE course. not a history major. very organized. I took it as an online class, he does hold a live zoom orientation the first week of class, it really helped. Everything is super clear, no surprises. Also puts his little daughter in a few lectures, she is so cute!!! Just read all announcements and you will never be lost.
Took his class for my GE's and he is very knowledgeable and approachable. His exams are based on both lecture and textbook, but he makes it clear what exactly he's grading on. Provides rubrics and offers review Zoom sessions. As long as you take good notes and do the work, you will get an A for sure.
Ok so he's a good teacher, and he cares a lot about the subject. but he's the type of teacher that thinks everyone who takes his class is doing it because they absolutely love the subject. His tests are also an insane amount of work, it almost makes it not worth taking the class. if you take this class just be warned that the tests are awful!
This is an easy "A" class. He gives you a review sheet weeks before the exam. Almost all the information is in his lectures which are super easy to follow. He even looks at your essays BEFORE you take the exam if you want. You can use your notes as well! Also, gives extra credit chances. I scored over 100% in his class.
He is always there to help you with questions. Replies very fast to emails, and even though it was an online class he was very happy to set up live zooms with us. He is just one of those few professors that really cares about student learning and success.
Great lectures! Always there to help you. Looking forward to taking more classes with him. Had him for an in person 110 class and 111 online. Both formats were great!!! Also, replies back to emails faster than any professor I have ever had! I am not a history major and he made the class enjoyable for me.
He makes it so if you want to do well you can. Gives clear directions on all assignments. He even makes short video clips on how to do your exams and even though it is online class holds optional live zoom reviews before big exams. He records and posts them as well if you can't make it. there is a lot to learn, but he makes it super easy.
All his courses are good. The History of the Middle East I learned A LOT. b/c his class is open note and open book exams it is fairly easy to do well if you prepare. For an online teacher he replies very fast to emails. no surprises, very organized. He wants you to do well.
These reviews failed me. Let me tell you the truth... He's a nice man BUT his class is very difficult, there are so many assignments. The midterm and final are insanely hard. He doesn't give enough time to complete the tests at all. He is really passionate about history and you will only do good if you throw away you're whole life to do notes.
Great class, gives you a review sheet and everything is open note, all you have to do is prepare before the exam and you are set. He even lets you send him your essays before you take the test. I sent him all of mine he gave me feedback made an "A" And his lectures are great, also he lets you use old editions of the text book, so class is cheap
A very well organized online class. Easy to follow lectures that are interesting and fun, you can watch on your own time. A few short quizzes, midterm, final, discussion boards. Great class if you need a GE. Just prepare from the review sheet he gives you and it is not that hard, just don't wait until last minute.
Love, love, love this class. He is so caring, wants you to do well. He totally bumped my grade up after I did well on the final. He really wants you to do well. He is a teacher and mentor. Good guy.
I took 111 after I took History 110. both classes were great. In person or online he is very organized, gives great lectures! Not a lot of reading, there is some you need to do, but mainly its about his lectures. Just don't procrastinate and you will do great since he tells you exactly what to study.
Love his lectures, very organized and clear. Will help you out if you ask, you will learn a lot as well. I knew nothing going in and by the time the class was over I felt that I really learned so much. Great professor!
Both his in person and online classes are very organized. He is all around great teacher. No harder or easier than most classes, but he is super helpful and the lectures are great. Prepared me really well for transfer, an I am not a history major. Great class.
He has an inspiring life story, his class is great, but he is always there to help you and give good advice. He became a great mentor to me.
If you get a chance to take an in person class with him do it! His lectures are great, class goes by so fast and it feels like a great learning experience.
David is a phenomenal professor; I loved his class so much I went back and took two more with him! If you pay attention and participate during lectures, do the readings, take good notes, and study, you will do well and enjoy his classes. He is VERY clear with instructions and grading and offers extra credit options. I cannot recommend him enough!
Professor Halahmy is one of the best professors I've ever had at Cypress College. This was an online class so it's clear that there would be a lot of work and you really have to work for your grade. But his lectures are really great, he teaches lectures like it's a story. And that's a great way to look at history, a story of the past.
His online class is super organized, puts up lectures that are actually fun to watch. He has video lectures of him in the lecture with images, maps, key words. Very responsive to emails. Always sends reminders when things are due. I will absolutely take another class with him.
Ima be real: David is a cool professor, but he wants us to read the textbook, watch his lectures, read primary sources, and write a whole ass 4-5 page essay for the midterm. He gives us time to prepare for the midterm, but juggling this and all my other classes, taking a multiple choice test would be much better in my opinion.
Great online class! There is some reading, but 90% of the content you need is from his video lectures. Those are the key to doing well in his class! Much better than most online where you have to read everything. Instead of going to class, you just watch the lectures on your own time. weekly. I am sure he is great in person as well.
Very clear professor. He always gives you reminders to get your work in. All exams are also open note and open book. His lectures are super clear and he is very good about helping you out. I will take History 111 with him as well!
I enjoyed taking his class in person. He has a great personality, and I will never forget when he told me I can't control what happens in my life, only how I react to things that happen. He is both a great teacher who is clear, and someone who cares about helping students. His lectures are always interesting and his grading is fair.
This is my second time him. He is absolutely amazing and bummed that I had to take both of the History classes online. His lectures are very interesting and gives very little homework. His quizzes and exams are really straight forward and he does an amazing job at preparing you you for the exam. It's on your if you want to do well.
Awesome professor! Grades quickly, replies quickly, and PLENTY of EC opportunities. I wish I would've taken this class in person. I hated history before this class. He makes it so interesting! Exams and quizzes are not hard at all. Most info is in lectures but you do need the book. TIP: Complete IDs and essays AS you watch the lectures.
All I can say is Professor David had lots of fun lectures. His quizzes are easy for as long as you study for it. If you put the work in, it's soooooo easy to get an A. He is caring for his students as well!
Great course, loved learning about WWI and WWII. Also, all his lectures are very well organized and clear. Exams are open notes and open books now so if you prepare well before the test with the review sheet he gives you it is fairly easy to do well. He is also super helpful!
Took Professor Halahmy Spring 2022, my first semester in general. Best history teacher, his lectures are exactly what the quizzes are about. I enjoyed learning about the Middle East more than I thought. Very easy class !
Great professor. Entertaining lectures. Very involved in the class and a fair grader. There is a lot of work though. This isn't the type of class where you can just wing it last minute. Assignments consist of weekly discussions, an occasional quiz, and 2 exams. The exams are written essays so you definitely can't bs it. Overall I recommend
Professor Halahmy is amazing. I just recently had him for fall semester of 2022 and not only is he incredibly passionate about teaching history, but his lectures are very easy to follow. If you show up to class and take notes, it is almost impossible to fail any of the quizzes or exams since 99% of the content comes from his lectures.
One of the few professors that have successfully motivated me to watch and consume knowledge from online lectures.
Great class and you can get all the books for free, he uses a free online textbook! His lectures are easy to follow and he also puts them up on youtube to go back and watch later if you want. He is always happy to help any student. Just don't wait to prep the essays and IDs he gives you.
I took History 165 with Professor Halahmy many years ago and he explained the area better than anyone ever has. Great class, very enjoyable, great professor, he explains everything objectively
Open note and open book exams! Also, books are free! Great lectures, He is very caring, and has been teaching for a long time. He also posts all his lectures, so if you miss a day you can just watch them. Looking forward to taking his History of the Middle East class as well!
This was one of the few online classes that I enjoyed! He has great video lectures. I kinda wish I took the class in person, but either way it is a great course. Looking forward to taking more of his classes.
Great class! I am a dual-enrollment student and this was my first class at Cypress College so I was a bit nervous heading into this. I went in-person but tests are online and open book. I don't usually enjoy history that much but this was definitely my favorite class that I've taken at a community college. The lectures are interesting and fun.
Even though it's not my major, I loved being in Professor Halahmy's Western Civilizations class. There was a good amount of reading and taking notes, but the online class was straightforward. Come to his office if you have problems with the Essays or IDs for the Exams. He grades quickly and fairly. I highly recommend taking any of his classes!!!
Great prof. This prof grades very fast, im talking about he graded my final the same day. on a saturday. hes a bit tough on grading. but fair. highly recommended.
Just watch his video lectures and use the review sheet he gives you and you will do well, he even sends a video on how to organize each essay, plus he has an amazing YouTube channel! You can watch his videos before you even take the class Good stuff!! Also, all the books are free!
Professor's lectures are excellent - well-organized and engaging. Open-book exams make it manageable if you use the review sheets and resources like unstuckstudy ai. Overall a great class, looking forward to more of their courses.
I decided due to David halahmy to become a history major he's an incredible professor and genuinely cares about all his student.
This was a great class to learn about the History of the Middle East. All the exams are clear and he helps you with the essays and IDs. I loved that the class covers the entire history so I was able to get a real clear picture of the region. I also enjoyed his Western Civ courses which I took in person.
Great class!! I am going to take History 111 as well this Spring with him. He made me enjoy history.
I am in his History 111 in person class. It is really engaging and I am learning a lot! He wants you to do well and is very helpful. Also, just a nice guy and cares about the students learning. Not very hard if you study.
The BEST professor I have had. Makes the class fun, gets students involved in lecture. He said something the first day of class that inspired me. College is about earning an education, not just getting the degree. I will take another class with him for sure!
Loved his World War lectures! Looking forward to taking another one of his classes. His lectures are great, and easy to follow. And he puts them all on youtube so you can go back and rewatch them. Excellent course! Also very helpful when you are preparing for the exam.
Professor Halahmy is a great professor I really liked his feedback on my assignments he is very passionate about history you can really tell he loves teaching it. I really recommend taking his classes.
He is a nice guy but requires WAYYY too much work if you're trying to just get your credits. You have so much to read and when I say A LOT I mean a lot. It's too much especially if you aren't a history major. Couldn't keep up that much if you are taking other difficult classes.
Really enjoyed the course! Made over 100% in the class because of the extra credit chances he gives. Love the fact that his lectures are on youtube as well! You can go back and watch them as a review after you sit through the class. And they are fun to listen too! Great course!
This is such an easy class if you just watch the lectures and use the review sheet. He tells you exactly how to organize the essays and will even look at them before you take the test. Anyone can make an "A" in the class. Also, all the books are free!!!!
I thought this class would be slightly easy, but nope. Too many lecture videos for a week; you think they may be like 15-20 minutes, but they are not; they are an hour long. It's hard to squeeze this class with my other prerequisites because he requires so much. I also don't like the way he structures his videos. It makes it hard to take notes.
I took 3 of his courses! All online. Most of the time is spent watching his lectures, they are clear, organized and enjoyable. Discussion boards are not too time consuming, but very much what you would expect for an online class. You know his videos are good, he has almost 30,000 YouTube subscribers!!!
I think it is great that he makes all his lectures available so you can watch them at home too. I enjoyed coming to class, but then I was able to go home and watch them again! He offers extra credit too. He gives you a review sheet for the exams as well. Looking forward to taking history 111 as well!
Loved his lectures on Napoleon and the World Wars! Everything is straight forward, easy to follow, grades quickly and he is a genuinely nice person. He really cares about all the students and wants us to do well.
Very easy to follow class. You can tell really enjoys lecturing which makes the class much better. the other day he took out a light saber to show us the story of what happened to a priest in the Middle Ages. Great guy, great class.
Loved taking History 111 with him! He is very passionate about teaching, wants the students to do well and always presents the history in a way that is easy to understand and enjoyable to learn. Taking his class makes me want to study more history!
He treats all the students with great respect. His teaching style is one that encourages students to participate, and the material is explained in a very clear way, he always checks during lectures if there are questions. And he wants us to do well.
Professor Halahmy, made my love for history grow. I've taken three of his class and enjoyed each one of them. I would highly recommend taking any of his classes whether it's for credit or just out of curiosity. I took both western civ courses and his history of the Middle East class.
Professor Halahmy is hands down the best professor I have had. I have taken two classes with him, both had very clear and reasonable expectations. Fantastic lecturer and makes history very fun and interesting to learn. I liked that he was very fair and truthful covering the good, the bad, and the ugly of the topics. Would recommend heavily!
He managed to take a class about the complex Middle East and present it in an amazingly clear manner. I feel I understand the region so much better than ever before! Thank you Professor Halahmy. I also enjoyed his history 111 class that I took in person! Bonus books are all free!
Amazing class, also lots of extra credit chances. If you prep well you will pass easily. Looking forward to History 111.
Campus used to have a charger book pass, that is going away, so it's cool that all the books in the class are free! the lectures are super clear and he gives chances for extra credit during the semester. You have to put in time to watch the lectures and prep, but if you don't procrastinate the class is easy.
Professor Halahmy is a passionate professor who will make you critically think and survey history. He is here to ensure you are learning and participation is a part of the grade. Given this information, his class is very enjoyable and he makes sure of it. He provides the text at no cost. His class is an easy A if you can apply yourself.
Took this class this past semester as a late-minute class, and I don't regret it at all!! Very passionate about his lectures, does gives extra credit. Recommend an in-person class (ppl do better in person). Also, dad goals!! 10/10 class
Kinda cool to take a class with a Youtube star! That is how good his lectures are! They are even better in person!! Happy I took the in person class. Free books, great lectures, and he is there to help. Seriously take this course.
Very organized class. Puts his lectures on Canvas as well so after class you can review them on your own time. Helps that books are free. Also, exams are all at home so they are open book and open note, just need to prepare well. For sure take History 111 with Professor Halahmy.
Took both History 110 and History 111. You show up, take notes, you can rewatch all the lectures on the Canvas course shell. He gives you the review sheet AND tells you what you need to do on your essays. I thought it was pretty easy if you just show up and use the review sheet. He will even look at your essay before the exam!
His approach to history is perfect! Just objective history, goes through everything chronologically and teaches history in a direct and and enjoyable manner. For his online class, he also responds to emails very quickly and grades quickly. Refreshing!
Great in person class! Loved all the various topics we discussed in class about human nature and how it impacts politics, economics and more. Looking forward to taking the History of the Middle East as well with him. Bonus, all the books are free!
Scored over 100% in the class. He gives plenty of extra credit and he will tell you what to include on the exams to make sure you make an A. 111 next semester! Books are free.
A refreshing college course. I love that he makes you think about things in different ways! I also took the 110 class. They are both great, I like this one more because it has more modern content. I love how he connects history topics with current events in a thoughtful manner. Class is also easy if you prep. He helps!
Great online class, most online classes you just read, he has easy to follow video lectures. Makes it super easy to take notes. As others have said books are free, plan to take History 111 in person next semester!
I have no idea why his ratings are so high, while every person i talked to in the class were saying the same thing.
Professor Halahmy's main priority is making the course material clear and accessible and easy to master. We have been so impressed with the quality of his online lectures and his caring engagement that our whole family is signed up to take classes from him.
Amazing very thorough professor! I love the lectures! Highly recommended!!
Professor Halahmy makes HIS110 a very comfortable course to navigate and succeed in through the semester. His lectures are easy to follow due to his to passionate delivery and attention to detail. His exams might appear to be much at first but as long as you attend the class lectures then the material needed to pass the exams becomes comfortable.
He's an excellent and highly organized professor, but his midterm and final can be challenging due to the heavy workload and limited time. You need to be a fast typer to complete everything on time no exceptions. I'm a slow typer because I just started school after 5 years being away so I had a hard time with that part. Very good class though.
Took 110 and 111 at the same time while taking 20 units in total. Got both A's. There is a lot of reading and note taking work, but David is a good teacher and has good videos on the content. Just make the time to do the work. Midterms and finals are based on Essays and Key Terms that you pre type onto a doc to prepare for the 90min Midterm/Final.
He is very passionate about history, all professors should be like him. It is a lot of study time so if you don't like this subject don't take it. All assignments are easy except for midterm and final. Make sure you read the instructions on how he wants them. I wish i would've taken this class in person because I really liked his lectures.
His lectures are not boring at all and has a soothing voice which makes it easier to focus. I appreciated the charts he provides so that you can fill out as notes then reference later for quizzes and midterms. I missed a few assignments (my fault), but with the extra credit he provides I was able to bring up my grade.
