awesome teacher, makes the class so much better

made me like geography even LESS. talks about interesting things but only talks about his side of everything. not clear on projects and not much help over all.
He's a complete jerk. He's rude and ignorant.
Can be somewhat of a dick. Doesn't explain projects very well and can be overwhelming.
I liked his class...had some funny things to say, and some thought provoking things to say, and this was a geography class! some people get distracted, but I thought he was a very good teacher.
Not very friendly towards students. I didn't learn much in this class, and found it hard to relate to the subject. Regional geography is hard, but the teacher if they are good can make a big difference. He failed to do this!
Although he is very unfriendly to students and doesnt take much time to help, his class was interesting and I learned a lot. His tests were very easy and he didnt make it hard to get a good grade.
BEST CLASS EVER! i have never had so much fun in a gen ed course. i do agree however, he's real cold one on one. in class he's awesome but the minute you try to talk to him face to face, you're putting him out.
Not bad, not great, if you get offended easily don't take his class. Speaks from one side and not open to disagree-ors. Very easy and definitely bearable! SOme funny jokes and interesting facts.
He is a horrible teacher!!! Do not take him! He he jumps right into things doesn't explain anything. He is a rude man!

He's the best professor I've had at Longwood! His course is informative and thought-provoking. Slackers, nuckleheads, and kids unwilling to learn should stay away (which he'd appreciate). He's funny, sarcastic, and subversive; cute, too. Helpful website.
Nice guy, very funny. The class isn't very hard as long as you go... tests are pretty easy if you study and make your index card. Class sometimes goes by slow but he knows how to wake people up with a good joke.
Very interesting class. I learned alot. Nearly peed my pants laughing when he talked about drugs! Gives outlines, reviews, and Power Point lectures on his website. Explains everything clearly if you listen. Has great stories. His wicked grin is cute!
He is by far my favorite teacher at this school!!!! Extremely intelligent and very nice once you get to know him. I wish he taught all my classes, because I am sure he could make even Calculus interesting!!! Thanks Dr.H!!!!
Dr. Hardin was one of my best professors. Sure he's sarcastic and opinionated, but he's up-front about it and funny as hell. Show him YOU care and there's nothing he won't do for you. World traveller + evil sense of humor = HOT!
<3 my class. He is very intelligent and expects the same from you. All the facts are historically accurate. Funny, interesting. Only hard if you dont go to class and dont study. Provides all oppurtunities to do well. Check his website and see!
I thought his class was VERY interesting. Go to class and pay attention and you'll be fine. You don't need to buy the textbook.
Dr. Hardin will treat you with respect if you treat him with respect. You'll learn a lot in class that isnt in the book. Don't come to class if you're not going to pay attention...
DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS!!! HARDEST CLASS EVER. VERY VERY HARD TO FOLLOW AND UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.
very interesting lectures, study for tests and quizes and you'll be fine!
Dr. Hardin was interesting, but I think his problem is that he is so smart that he gets frustrated when people aren't as smart as he is.A problem when you're a teacher. I enjoyed his class
Dr. Hardin is a geography teacher that really knows his stuff. But, does that make him a good teacher? Well, it depends. If you're truly interested in geography then you'll get a lot out of this class. However, if you aren't then this will be a borefe
He's a good teacher and keeps the class interesting when he really gets into his lecture. His tests were a breeze and quizzes weren't bad at all. As long as you are respectful to him, he will be respectful to you. I would recommend him over other geography teachers.
Dr. Hardin is one of the best teachers I've had at this school! Whoever said that his class is really hard probably didn't go to class. He does everything on powerpoint, gives you study guides, and has everything online. Dr. Hardin is fantastic!!
Dr. Hardin is awesome! All these people that hate him because he makes fun of religion are way too sensitive. He's a really interesting teacher and he warns you ahead of time that he's not convinced about the validity of religions. Maybe respect his beliefs before you want him to respect yours.
Normally I love Geography but this class required rote memorization. We had to actually memorize power point slides. I thought it was ridiculously easy. He dumbed the material down for all the sorority ditzes who think India is in the Middle East. He needs to keep his liberal opinions to himself.
For the most part all of the stuff for his test come from the power points but if you pay attention in class you can pull at least a B out of the class. And to me really he is a fair guy when it come to teaching the class.
Dr. Hardin is a very well rounded professor, he made the class humorous as well as helpful. The most helpful tool in this course was the fact that he related the lectures to every-day life instead of just babbling for an hour.
It's sad when you're as business major in your senior year, and the only class you look forward to going to is Dr. Hardin's geography class, which is not a requirement for my graduation. I have found his class to be very interesting and fun.
AWESOME! He loves the topic and teaches it so well. I loved his class and wish I could re take it or fit another of his classes in my schedule!
One of the most interesting teachers I've had here at Longwood. Dr. Hardin is a great professor and the only thing you need to do in order to do well in his class is go to class. He's very interesting and you can tell he loves the material he's teaching. I recommend him.
Loved the class!!! Dr. Hardin is the best!!! I learned so much and would definitely take another class from him!!!
This guy knows his stuff, an makes it interesting for his students as well. He incorporates technology and visual aids into his lesson plan and puts an emphasis on acquisition of the subject matter.
This class was the easiest A i've ever gotten. If you can build a small knowledge base, you can basically bull s h i t your way through his class. Aside from that, it is actually fun and interesting too. Know how to build a website before taking this class (nothing too complex).
Dr. Hardin is one of the best professors at Longwood. He's a really awesome person. I learned so much in his class and am definitely taking another class with him next semester. His class is fairly easy if you go to the lectures and fill out the note card for tests.
awesome....learned more in this class than any other.
The class was very simple and it made geography not so boring. I especially enjoyed his religion lectures. Awesome guy
he's a fulbright scholar... the guy's smart.
I liked this class because Dr. Hardin is really passionate about what he does and loves teaching-he made me want to go to class just to hear what he says--he's very intelligent! Tests are kinda hard, but it wasn't a boring class (like i thought it might be)
I liked this class because Dr. Hardin is really passionate about what he does and loves teaching-he made me want to go to class just to hear what he says--he's very intelligent! Tests are kinda hard, but it wasn't a boring class (like i thought it might be)
Made things fun and interesting, allowed note cards for tests. I recommend him for anybody.
he is extremely excited about geography. too much in fact. his tests are hard. (he does let you use notecards however) NOT THE BEST CLASS
I liked this class, I thought it was interesting. His tests were difficult, but you got to use both sides of a notecard which really helps. He is helpful if you see him outside of class. He taught the material really well, and If I had time I would deffinatly take another class with him!
Hardin is very enthusiastic about the material and a fairly easy professor to have as long as you review the material prior to exam day.
He is very enthusiastic about his class and he makes it fun, but his test can be kind of hard, and thats all their is for a grade in the test, besides attendence.
Great Teacher, he is very adamant about what he teaches. Tests are pretty easy as long as you take good notes and study a little before hand. Only down side is he is very liberal and will preach to his class for 20 minutes about his liberal ideals. But aside from that take his class
Don't ever skip his classes! His tests are strictly material he teaches in lecture and he covers A LOT each class. Very good teacher!
The class is easy if you pay attention. He often goes off on tangents where you might wonder when will it in. If you dont answer questions when he asks, he looks at you and talks about how the government has failed and such. Test are word from the power points and its good you get the notecard.
He's extremely smart and he's passionate about geography- which makes his class really interesting. The tests are hard, but all the material comes straight from the powerpoints and lectures.
wasnt wat i expected of a basic geography class. go 2 class or u miss alot. tests r from powerpoint n lecture. multiple choice. study guide. brings politics into class a lot which annoys me. its a goegraphy class not poly sci. but overall i like the class. he did try n put 2 much on exams though study! and review notes daily to really understand it
Learned a lot!
I certainly would not recommend this professor. He brings politics into class room discussion almost every day. Hardin is also very rude towards the class and acts like we are such an ignorant generation. His comments piss me off everyday.
Great teacher... Although his test are difficult with picture identification, they mainly come off the power points. Great teacher, I'm just a poor student. =(
Dr. Hardin is very passionate about geography. However, he brings his politics into the classroom. Also, i have slept through most of his lectures and I still had one of the highest grades in the class. His test are very generally anybody should be able to get a good grade.
Study and take good notes and this class is easy
Love how bad reviews come from students who don't know what course they're in?? Dr. Hardin does talk about politics - it's called political geography. Best explanation of the Electoral College ever! If you're so smart you can sleep through his class, why aren't you at a better school? Great professor. Very interesting, passionate, and entertaining.
Dr. Hardin is one of the best professors at Longwood. This class has to work for both Liberal Studies and other majors too, so he has to do a balancing act. His attention to VA SOLs helped me alot. Incredibly helpful and friendly if you get to know him and he's not in too much pain. Great range of knowledge-was he in the CIA or something?
Dr. Hardin is the best. Of all classes I have taken throughout High School and College, his has been most relevant and relatable in my life. He is great at capturing attention and his teaching style keeps kids interested. Strongly recommend.
This class was made exceedingly more difficult than needed and the professor was not personable whatsoever, making it very hard to seek help from him.
Dr. Hardin can be difficult to follow and communicate with. Take good notes during lecture and always show up to class - attendance is key! He allows students to use 1 index card of notes for tests which is really generous. Above all else, Dr. Hardin is extremely passionate about Geography and is a really interesting professor. Take his class!
Pretty much an ass. Lets you have a small note card, "cheat card" on the test but way too much information. Boring lectures. Waste of time really.
His class was the biggest waste of my time. Nobody in any of his GEOG 310 classes had a clue what was going on. He is an ass to us and makes it seem like he wants us to feel stupid. He is not afraid to share his opinion even if they are extremely offensive. Dr. Hardin thinks WAY TOO highly of himself. Good luck if you have him (:
He needs to learn to think before he speaks, he can be very offensive at times. Needs to be more prepared for his lessons. I understand this was a co-requiste course with History 370 but he was not prepared at the beginning of the semester with a course overview OR even a syllabus. He did not collaborate with other professor.
Dr. Hardin is incredibly fully of himself and he feels very strongly towards certain views in life, sometimes the things he says can be pretty mean and offensive but the man does know what he is talking about. I'm definitely not a geography kind of person but his tests were easy if you studied and he gives you a note card to use, got an A-
While Dr. Hardin is very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches, he is all over the place with his lectures. I was never sure what to take notes on because he would continue to trail off from one thing to another. Very confusing.
One multi-stage project, non-timed online quizzes, and a handful of tests. Upside is there's less to do than average, downside is your grade depends on those few things. Gives extensive lectures and doesn't really interact with the class much, and throws his own views into some of his tangents, but he knows his geography. Good teacher overall.
Second class with Hardin. He teaches and grades consistently in all his courses, so once you know how he works, things will go smoother. Get all the non-timed online quizzes done, and bring a notecard with lots of notes on it for every test. He posts the powerpoints he uses in lectures online, so download all of those. Show up and pay attention.
He is tough, but fair. Buddy up to some students in the class because you'll want to vent and a study group is going to be really helpful. Write EVERYTHING down.
Not a bad professor, able to use notecard on tests. Very political in many topics teaching. Very powerpoint heavy use, mainly all pictures.
Hardin talks a lot, and not just about the topic at hand. You have to use the textbook for some things online, but all of the tests are based on things from his lectures. The difficulty here is that, in adition to geography he also talks about aliens, his children, history, religion, etc. (not pertaining to the topic. He can beoffensive at times.
Dr. Hardin is very passionate about what he does and that totally comes through in his lectures. However, he is also very longwinded, so recorded lectures that are not limited to a certain time slot can go on for over 2 hours sometimes. He does record all of his lectures and post them on canvas, but go to class so that the lecture won't be as long
lectures are long, heavy, and boring. if you don't study for the tests, you won't pass. start studying at least a week in advance. also, don't email him ever because you won't get a response back. I've emailed him on multiple occasions, at reasonable times, and never got a response back.
Dr. Harden is a good choice for a professor. He very much cares about the material he teaches, which sometimes gets him off topic. He gives plenty of textbooks assignments which he weights heavily to help keep your average up even if you don't do well on the tests. He emails back quickly if you need help.
Emailing him is basically pointless. 9/10 times you wont get a response, and if you do it will always be at 2am when the response no longer helps you. He always seems to wait until a day before an exam to start making it, and usually doesn't finish it on time. Not an awful teacher, but an incredibly frustrating one.
Look, Dr. Hardin is a really sweet guy and I imagine that he would be a great professor under non-COVID circumstances. Regardless, the COVID version of the course was kinda a mess but it was a learning curve for everyone. He tried his best and I got a good grade so I can't complain. Again, hes nice guy and very understanding,
This class was okay. I feel like I didnt learn much to be honest. He moved a lot of dates around on us too. I took this class and it ended up being synchronously online with zoom. Lectures tend to get boring as well. Make sure to study for tests and be prepared to see up to 10 pts extra credit on the tests too!!
Tests are the only grades, he gives a lot of extra credit on them though which helps, and curves. He gets off topic quite a bit and rambles, the textbook will be more help than class time. But he is a super nice guy and willing to answer questions.
Dr. Hardin is such a nice guy and clearly knows his subject matter really well, but this was probably the most disorganized class I've ever taken. I think he had a lot of personal stuff going on during the semester, so modifications to deadlines and assignments were made on a weekly basis, which made everything hard to keep track of.
Dr. Hardin was really nice and always willing to help but he had very heavy lectures with things that I felt didn't always relate to class, its easy for him to get off topic and honestly its hard to pay attention in lecture. There are essentially no grades unless tests, so you need to do well on the tests.
Most unorganized professor ever. His lectures were not about geography but Va history. Would get off topic easily then ramble on. Only has 3 assignments all semester (2 of those were test) so you have to do well on the tests. Syllabus was never right bc the schedules changed all the time. Uses old material on canvas
Constantly rants about nothing, then provides work to do when he has not actually taught anything
Dr. Hardin is a very nice man, but he is a horrible lecturer. I had to essentially teach myself the coursework because his lectures are nearly incomprehensible. He rants a lot, but often much of what he discusses isn't relevant to the class. I wouldn't take any of his classes again.
obsessed with skiing places. While studying a mountain range, does he talk about cultural, geographical, historical, and geological significance? Nah. Great for skiing!
Hilariously incompetent with any form of technology despite him insisting it be the backbone of the
Very lecture heavy but the lectures are very hard to understand. Talks about nonsense for the majority of the class. Basically only graded on exams so do good on those. Also an 8 page paper at the end of the semester.
Does not balance lecture topics well. Spends way too much time on geomorphology (rocks, tectonics, physical features), sacrificing time better spent on culture and society.
Got a good grade in the class over all, tests were hard and you have to listen to lectures but he does curve and do extra credit.
Professor Hardin. very interesting fellow, he is a really nice professor and grades fairly. his final paper seems like a lot but once you really start working it flies by. He tells you everything that will be on the exams and teaches in a slow easy to understand way overall it was easy credits and a GPA booster, highly recommend!
Class is very easy. You need the textbook for reading quizzes. He gives out extra credit, and will curve the exams. He tells a lot of stories in his lectures which are good, but can get off track. Would highly recommend taking if you need this class for a requirement.
He talks and rambles a lot but is very passionate about what he teaches. The exams are somewhat easy because you can cheat using the powerpoints because everything is there and he gives extra credit points to help your grade at the end of each exam. The country profile is excessive but only 15% of your grade. So take that how you want.
Professor Hardin is an okay professor. It's difficult to reach him outside of class, he hardly ever responds to emails. His lectures are long and full of pictures, so it's hard to take notes. I wouldn't take a class with him again. He is nice and helpful but is difficult to reach outside of class time.
He needs to retire, he never has his plan together and rambles for the duration of class. He doesn't respond to emails. Most of the class was taught over Zoom because of illness and disability issues which is understandable except for the fact that this course was supposed to be in person. 0/10 would not take him ever again.
DO NOT TAKE WITH HIM IF YOU CAN. He is a bad professor. He quickly gets off topic, and I just had to end up teaching everything to myself if I could. He had us do a group paper and it was the most disorganized project and class I have ever done. I learned nothing in this class. He also never answers emails.
He's a nice enough guy, but his lectures are impossible to follow, and forget being able to access him outside class. But, the textbook exercises were really easy + he made study guides for the exams. He gives extra credit for random things too which is pretty cool.
He's nice enough but just cannot stay on topic to save his life. Assigns things we should be doing in class as homework constantly (quizzes, projects, even lectures) and instead spends class rambling. Talks a concerning amount about Nazi/Neonazis and skiing. While not unbearable, be prepared to be bored and alone when you need help.
