The greatest indication that he is a good teacher is that during the Engineering pie week, there was not one sent to him. This was after a rediculously hard midterm that many people failed. And yet, No pie! He cares about the students and is helpful.

He's always enthusiastic about class and his students. He generally knows his stuff, though we catch him making mistakes on the blackboard one too many times. Just watch out for his TA, cuz he is HORRIBLE! Go to the source for help instead.

Students with other M138 profs abandoned their lectures to attend Harmsworth's, even though it was at 8:30am. Often managed to fill all the seats, pushing some students onto the floor.

David is an excellent prof, although his lecture is 8:30 in the morning, I still went, speaks perfect english, helpful to students, passionate about the course, the course wasn'ts easy but he made it clear to students, EXCELLENT PROF!

Excellent prof if you haven't taken any integration courses (however, if u have taken integration courses before, u will find his lectures bored to death because he explains way too many - often write prragraphs to explain few points).. Easy course though

I had him in my second year of university (2 years ago), one of my best profs yet. Knowledgeable, friendly, and communicates openly with the classroom. Doesn't make anyone feel stupid for asking questions, and welcomes any feedback or questions from class

8:30 CLASS!!! Ah well, it was worth the early wake. Great lecture notes, very clear. Willing to remark questions marked by bitter T.A's. However, beware that Calc 2 is indeed a very brutal course!

He's pretty good. He writes REALLY fast, but the notes are good, so if you can't keep up with him enough to understand what you're writing, you'll understand eventually by looking at your notes.

Very clear notes, but writes WAY too fast. If you stop and listen to him explain the problem, you are already 3 paragraphs (yes paragraphs) behind. Other than that, an awesome lecturer, always willing to explain and help students out.

Is a good professor; answers questions and has a good sense of humour. Pay close attention in clas though, he offers some really good hints! His tips and tricks are definetly helpful! An overall enjoyable class.

He writes way too fast, you can't learn while in the class if you're taking notes. You have to either skimp on notes, or write the notes and learn it later

Awesome prof! Gave really clear and consiste notes and is very helpful outside of class as well. Not many people attended his class since it was at 8:30 a.m. but those who did benefitted enormously! The course notes for this course are horrible, so class attendance is recommended. Tests range from fair to challenging and the final very brutal!

Taking this class in the summer when it was made up of lots of people that took 140 series courses made for a fun time. Brutalized on tests. Explained theory well in class, but lack of clear coursenotes and/or a good textbook really made it harder than it should've been.

Great professor. According to him, it was his first time teaching the Math211 course this year. Interestingly enough, students from other, more experienced lecturers' classes would come and sit at Harmsworth's lectures. Hope to have him for other Math courses as well :)

He really is a good prof. Tries to be clear in class and does his best to present complicated material to the class. Unfortunately, this course is very hard and is not interesting at all, but he does his best to explain it in understandable terms.

The previous comment is pretty much spot on. Listening to him talk is like having an angel whispering in your ear. If it were socially acceptable I would walk up to the front of the class and slap his buttocks. Yes ladies, he is that hot.

Also taught MATH 117. Great lecturer, other people with different profs would come to our class and fill it up, so that the original class had to start coming early to grab a seat. Good notes, patient, easy to understand in class, nice teaching style. Pace was good, enjoyed the class even though the material was difficult.

Half of his notes in that class are pointless. He often makes the assignment too hard or too long, so everyone depends on the tutorial to get the answers. His test are way too long as well. Average for the term tests are around 60%

Great prof, unfortunently he has a 8:30 class an not many people show up. He does a great job teaching, and his lectures aren't dry. However, he makes KILLER exams, if you're not prepaired for them (I.E, 30+ hours of studying) you'll do very poor. His exams are some of the hardest I've seen, but if you're prepaired, they're very very fair.

The guys a good prof i guess, he sometimes thinks that things are easy because hes done them so much that its become easy for him. He'll think most things are obvious when there not really and his exams are EXTREAMLY hard, i mean so hard, he will throw stuff you've learned but you never ever would see it comng. He throws more left hooks than Tyeson

Harmsy is a good prof, it takes a while to warm up to him though. He is very clear and his course notes are essentially word for word what he writes on the board in class. He is extremely competent, as well as passionate, in the material he teaches. His midterms and finals are tough, but they are graded extremely fairly.

Pros: Very clear, knows his stuff, likes teaching, and very fair exams (Not always easy, but very reasonable). Cons: I feel he is overrated sometimes; he doesn't break down ideas very much, but chooses to describe them "technically" which didn't help me understand them easily.

Really well organized and knows his stuff. But I found it hard to keep up with his pace. A lot of the people in my class were international students for whom the course was review so it was too fast paced for me. Nice textbook that he wrote himself (more like course notes).

Winter 2016: He really wants you to earn your grade. His marking is clear and just wants you to show that you know what you are doing. midterm and final are fair but have 1-2 more challenging problems to push your understanding. TA's were very helpful and he is outside of class

He's an overall good prof he wrote the course notes so he teaches from them. Cares about the students knows how to adjust the average of the class so he has it where her wants it. Over all a solid teacher.

Quite an unpleasant experience - the course material doesn't translate well when he explains it. Not sure where he studied but it wasn't UWaterloo which is obvious because of the way he explains the material.

Really had some terrible interactions with him - strongly unrecommended. His tests are not the problem - it's the way he deals with students. Quite rough and like a bully - will not admit if he did or said anything wrong.

An incredibly dull lecturer but average difficulty in tests. Would not really want to take his class again unless I had too. Don't really like meeting with him as he doesn't explain very well and doesn't seem to enjoy interacting with students.

Pretty unimpressive. I was expecting more from him because he has an advisory position too, but don't think he's right for that or as a lecturer. Needs to work on his communication skills. I just expected more from math profs in terms of their quality of teaching.

Can't find anything excellent to say about him. I just feel like he's not like the other profs but this isn't a compliment. I wish he was more credible in his teaching in terms of making himself more interesting to students. Very average.
