most boring teacher i have ever had, i fall alsleep almost every day. the material (caribbean) is boring and he has no clue how to teach it to students, we waste time giving presentations on material we read for that day but it doesn't help us with anything. i suggest NOT taking this class or this teacher.
Nice guy. Class was interesting (if u are interested in the caribbean) and he knows a lot about it (he used to live in Jamaica.) Tests and quizes are kinda tricky and the response papers get old but its worth it if u like the topic. He is very understanding outside of class and is willing to give extra help. :)
i had him for eng 110. it might be his first year teaching this class so we read a lot of the text, but the short 5 pt quizzes wasn't too bad. we only had a couple of short (3-4 pg) papers and he doesn't grade too hard. we mainly went over stuff in the book in class and that got kind of boring sometimes, but hes willing to help outside of class
D. Hart is a pretty easy-going guy. He's kind of a stiff, but overall a good guy. I thought the class was gonna be a joke the first day, but throughout the course, I learned a lot of new and interesting information. He generally grades pretty easy and I would reccommend taking him because you will learn a lot and probably get a good grade.
D Hart is a nice professor that listens to students and is willing to help everybody. He is a fair grader and will help you if you are having trouble. Though, the material in the class (caribbean) is can be uninteresting at times and the lectures can get long. two tests, one paper, quizes, and response papers. overall, the class isn't too bad.
Dr. Hart is serious, you can try to joke with him but he lacks sense of humor. The one paper you have in English 200 he grades quite harsh and gives back half the classes papers to re-do them for a lower grade. He lectures for long periods, very very boring. You pretty much learn how much the Caribbean blows. I would not recommend this class.
dr. hart is loyal to his jamaican brothers. he makes you laugh once in a while, kind of a goofy little fella. But overall, the class wasn't bad. kind of interesting. Easy tests...dont worry about that. Just do your work, you're fine
I LOVE DR. HART!! he tells funny jokes sometimes and he's pretty cool. He is an easy teacher if you do your work. Do a presentation and you will get a 100% on it! He is super sweet.
If you do all the assignments it should be an easy B, but not an instant A. You have to work for that. He teaches mainly concepts of writing different types of argument papers. He also has conferences for each essay that are very helpful. Only 3 essays! I think he's a good teacher. I'm taking him in the fall for British Lit.
He's a great teacher! You read a lot out of the book but it's not too bad. Short 5 pt quizzes are easy points. Only 3 essays and they're all persuasive. Class discussions were kind of boring but overall it was a pretty good class.
English isn't too boring with Dr. Hart. There isn't too much work in this class, just reading from the textbook assigned every class, with summaries and random reading quizzes. Classes are mostly just him talking and group discussion. Not too bad...
just read the material. His tests are on things discussed in class, there are pop quizes but he makes it so that if you read the material you will get 100% (no trick questions). Average grade in the class is a 90%
Dr. Hart is a great professor, a bit dry at times, but an easy grader...only three essays, all of which are under 5 pages...if you just read the material assigned, you'll be fine (he assigns quizes from the readings, but are easy)!
Great Prof! Assigns interesting readings. I thought this class was exactly the way a gen ed english class should be taught. Not a ton of work outside of class and discussion of relevant topics. I would reccommend him as its a a pretty easy A.
Great Professor! Shows real enthusiam for subject (college writing). I had low confidence in my writing abilities, but did not get a grade below a B!
His class was pretty easy and had considerably less work than other ENG110 professors I've heard about. Most of the subjects we wrote about were kind of boring, but overall it was tolerable. I was kind of confused at what exactly he wanted in a paper though. Warning, there are pop quizzes on the readings.
Good teacher. you have to read out of the book frequently to be ready for the pop quizzes he gives. The quizzes are fairly straightforward of you read and the material. There is only one test the whole semester and the final is an essay. I would recommend him!
Very, very easy. Almost too easy. Very night guy--not a single complaint.
Good professor, nice guy. The class is pretty much easy. You just need to do the readings and understand them well. Gives pop quizes for readings. Three one page response papers, one group presentation, midterm & final. I found the readings to be really boring, but I learned a lot because I hadn't heard of any of it. Take him if you can.
Class is entirely focused on writing arguments, which is not ideal for an intro writing class. If this comment isn't persuasive enough, then it's because he didn't do a good enough job teaching. Also, he strongly resembles Arj Barker.
A really good class!! take this if you can. he does give reading quizzes, but if you read it (even a good skim) you will be fine. He is a really easy/helpful grader on papers and summaries!! he's a really nice guy too.
Very easy class. He is really helpful but his lectures can be really boring because he is very repetitive. He is a very easy grader. Highly recommend.
Awesome guy! Great sense of humor. Kind of a tough grader when it comes to the essays and reading quizzes aren't fun but wouldn't have wanted anyone else as a teacher. I highly recommend taking him
Hart is a good professor in his methods. I found it tough to work with the fact that the class is based on argumentative writing but I can understand why he chose it after being in the class. I brings up many good areas of writing. The class was difficult for me but only because of my poor history in English classes.
One of my favorite professors on campus! Tries to make class fun with frequent YouTube examples.
I took this class last semester and thought learning about "writing arguments" was pointless. I found out that I have used many of the techniques I learned in this class in my second semester classes, the information you learn in this class is very beneficial towards other classes!
The class is pretty boring overall considering its focused on identity and colonialism, but it's not that bad. He gives 10 quizzes, 3 or 4 pop quizzes, the other ones are on D2L. Two tests, midterm and final that weren't too hard. Most of the readings are on D2L or in the book, if you keep up it's an easy A, if you fall behind its an easy B
He's very passionate about the Caribbean and that makes his lectures more interesting. Sometimes the class feels a little repetitive because a lot of the themes are the same. However, he does keep things interesting through media examples. He's often unintentionally funny and a little bit of a dork (which I really liked).
I enjoyed this class and professor! I learned more about the Caribbean than I even knew. He is a very nice guy. Participate in class and read the books (or get main points from someone else), it's an easy A.
Dr. Hart is so nice. He wants everyone to love the Caribbean just as much as he does, plus he's very intelligible about it. Although literature discussions are never the most fun, he varied his classes and teaching tactics enough to keep it from getting boring. Participate in class for his sake. Recommended. (Plus lots of "online" days--no class!)
I really liked this class with Dr. Hart. He makes the class really interesting and I loved D2L days! His exams are not that hard...just go to class and you'll be fine.
He is very knowledgeable about the subject (Caribbean Literature) but the amount of stuff he asks you to memorize is unreal. He is not an awful teacher, but I feel he could be more clear on the subject matter.
He covers a very broad range of readings(poems, stories, documentaries),of which be ready to remember authors, places of birth, plots, settings, characters, terms, and direct quotes from each of them. He requires very specific information on exams and he uses few visuals to teach, mostly just talks and talks, seemingly aimlessly
This is more of a history class than an english class. The lectures are painfully boring and visuals are rarely used. No study guides for exams, and the amount of memorization required is a extreme for a 200 level english. I do not suggest this guy for 200, choose another section. Seems nervous when he speaks.
I would not recommend this course. Tons of reading. Boring lectures. IMPOSSIBLE Midterm and Final (really no point studying). Hart knows his stuff; however, he expects us to be just as much of an expert as he is. More like a 400 level lit class, not 200.
Least favorite class of the semester, it was painful to sit through 3 times a week just watching the clock tick by. The material we read was dry and hard to understand and just really not engaging. I can't recommend him. Plus you need a 94% to get an A.
This class is very easy if you do what is asked. Dr. Hart is a little awkward but he tells you what is expected and is an easy grader. One exam and two 5page papers. No final and about 4 online days where you do not come to class.
Dr. Hart is a great guy and really cares about his students. A few easy quizzes, one exam, two papers, and a few other assignments along the way. Learned a lot in this class. Could be a little boring if you hate english but it's totally worth it. Highly recommend!
Professor Hart is a great teacher! He really cares for how is students do. The Caribbean lit was somewhat dry and boring at times, but at least he is very enthusiastic about it and engages the entire class to participate. I'd say don't take him for ENG 200 if you don't care for the Caribbean, but take him for any other ENG course!
Dr. Hart was a cool guy. His humor is great, he tries really hard to be funny. This class WAS THE EASIEST CLASS I have ever taken at UWL. He loves the Caribbean so it makes it bearable. Yes, a little boring, but it is worth the easy A
Dr. Hart is a great professor! He LOVES what he teaches and is always willing to help his students. The more the class talks, the more Dr. Hart opens up with his great humor. He makes the classes interesting and has unique and creative assignments. He is a fair grader and will expect his students to give him 3rd and 4th year work.
Dr. Hart is a great professor who tries to keep his class interesting, although he may fail at times. His assignments are not too hard, however he grades his essays more tough.
He's really nice but his lectures are quite dry. The content is interesting. I would take him again.
Hart grades fairly. His lectures are very dry and pointless, but he at least makes an effort to be funny. I would recommend taking him!
Dr. Hart is very passionate about the Caribbean and tries to be funny during lectures. He lets you miss up to four and Fridays are online discussions. You do have to read for this class, but for a literature class, its easy. Lectures do get kind of long and boring, but if you participate once in a while and show up for class it definitely helps.
David Hart is an interesting guy. He tries to make lectures fun, some of them are okay, but still kind of boring. He is VERY passionate about the Caribbean. The class itself was pretty easy, especially if you actually read. Normal stuff. Would recommend.
David was a great teacher. I had him for Caribbean literature and he is so passionate about the class which makes it very easy to learn. Usually daily homework/readings but they are easy and short, more of busy work. Only a couple of papers and they are only 1-2 pages each. No exams either!
He is a gem. Hes pretty funny and makes class genuinely interesting! Before this class I hated lit but now I love it. You play jeopardy at the end of the semester for extra points on your final grade and fridays are online days! Hes decently flexible with due dates if you email him and he's not a super tough grader. He's super nice and cares a lot!
I was not looking forward to taking this class, but it surprised me. Although the readings were lengthy and consistent, they were most often pretty interesting. Dr. Hart seems as though he'd grade difficultly, but usually always gave 100%'s. Lectures got dry and boring however. He has a dry sense of humor that is usually only funny to few.
I took ENG200 Caribbean Literature. The class is fairly easy, and David makes the lectures pretty interesting. It is important to actually read all of the assignment material.
Took this class Spring 2017 and it was definitely a good class to get your literature requirement out of the way. There is a lot of reading, usually something for every class, some shorter or longer than others but nothing crazy. Plenty of time at the end of the semester (two weeks) dedicated to nothing but the final paper. Highly recommend!
I really liked Dr. Hart and took his class as a hybrid. Online days were easy and he clearly lays out what is expected of you. He has checklists for everything so you always know what you're doing and when. He is available outside of class and genuinely cares about his students. You have 1 exam and 2 papers as well as a few short, online quizzes.
The majority of the grade is attendance, the midterm, and the final. The reading quizzes aren't worth much (even though it is a literature class). There is a lot of reading an weekly discussion posts, but the work load isn't bad. He expects you to get a lot out of it and make sure you sit in your assigned seat or you'll be marked absent.
This is a literature class; you do have to read. There are ten D2L discussions and a large paper at the end of the semester, but he is extremely clear on what he wants. He's a funny guy that cares a lot about his class and students. He grades relatively easy if you put in the time and effort. If you read, you'll do well. There is no final exam
Professor Hart is knowledgeable and leads interesting discussions. I enjoyed the things we have read and I would take a class with him again. We are graded on few things but the assignments are very simple.. most of them are just to prove that you read the material. No quizzes or tests!
Super easy grader. Fridays were online discussion days so you only really have class 2 days a week. A ton of online quizzes on readings mostly every class, but it is easy to get by. As long as you show up in class you will pass.
I took Caribbean lit with David. He is a very interesting professor. A lot of reading, but that's what you expect in a lit class. Lots of online days, which is nice. Easy quizzes and discussions.
Dr. Hart was a good professor. The class was very manageable and somewhat interesting for an English gen ed. There were only two short papers, one for the midterm and final. Fridays were online classes and you just had a reading quiz and discussion post. He lets you miss 4 classes which is nice, he was a caring professor
His English200 was a hybrid class, every Friday you didn't have to come into class but instead do discussion posts on your own. Discussion Posts and reading quizzes make up for most of the grades, but he's a very reasonable grader. Very chill guy and if you raise your hand once in a while and show some effort you'll earn a good grade.
Super boring and long lectures, but a very lenient grader. The readings are also kinda boring, but they aren't two bad. Overall, if you show up to class and do the online homework you will be fine.
I really liked professor Hart. He is super funny and caring; he always made me smile at least once per class. There was a lot of reading and papers towards the end of semester which was rough, but overall an easy class if you keep up with assignments. Dr. Hart is awesome and I would definitly take him again.
Overall easy class. If you don't read the assigned chapters its very hard to write the quality essays he's looking for. You were required to do the readings outside of class and then sit through class where the professor basically reread the chapter to you often felt class was a waste of time however attendance was mandatory.
The only reason why I gave him a 4 on difficulty was because of all the online work you'll have to do. Also, when doing papers the rubric is of no help and you will not do well on them unless you ask him a ton of specific questions because he never lays them out on the rubric. With this in mind, he is a good teacher just make sure you're ready.
His class was one of my easier classes my first semester! For the first half of the semester he did have you do online quizzes outside of class that were about 4 questions and worth 1 point, out of 100 points. He assigns two essays and does not grade his essays super tough. For your final essay he gives you about a month to work on it, and in class
Overall a really great professor! The class I took with him was tough for me, but he was able to help out a lot. Really easygoing guy
Amazing professor. Lots of discussions, but most are very interesting. Usually 1-2 quizzes a week, but those are not hard if you read the assigned homework. 2 papers the entire semester, both were very enjoyable to write. He grades very fairly and provides amazing feedback to help you improve on future assignments. TAKE DAVID HART!
Easiest class I took all semester. Only discussion posts every 1-1.5 weeks. Reading "quizzes" you made up one question based off of what you read. Two papers at the end are SUPER easy. Take this class! I will finish with 100%. He is super carefree and grades everything quickly.
Dr. Hart's asynchronous class was enjoyable and not stress inducing. There were a handful of discussion boards, almost weekly quizzes, and 2 essays. He gave good feedback and is heavy on peer reviews. Overall really solid and I enjoyed his class.
I really enjoyed Dr. Hart's class. It was a bit of reading but the course material was interesting. He does a lot of online discussion days which was nice instead of going to class on a Friday morning. When you have to take a 200 level English class, take his.
He doesn't teach. At all. He walks into class with no plan. He has the students present on the chapter we read and goes on a tangent off of that presentation. He is so boring and monotone. I've hated professors more, but I've never hated a class more. It was hybrid and that was too much. You'll teach yourself critical theory.
Loved Dr. Hart! There are just reading quizzes and 2 essays. The class is pretty easy if you just do what is due. Dr. Hart is also a very funny and nice guy, I recommend him!
This was an easy class. Online quizzes each week. He is kinda weird but he is very nice. All you have to do is show up to class. easy grader.
I had Dr. Hart for ENG110 and went back to him for ENG200. He is the most easygoing professor I've had at this university so far. You are graded on discussion posts and two other simple papers throughout the entirety of the semester. You can tell he actually cares about his presentations and it would be hard to not get an A.
Dr.Hart was my english110 teacher. He does a great job at describing the concepts in class. However this guy is DRY. 2 papers are responsible for over 55 percent of your final grade. He states that attendance is mandatory, but I have been to class early and have never seen him take attendance. If you can write at a college level, you will do well.
Dr. Heart is great. He is so nice and an amazing professor. Gives good feedback and is ready to help with anything. Super easy class, highly recommend my man Mr.Hart.
I would for sure reccomend this class to anyone who is looking for an easy A. Just show up to class, read the material and complete the discussion posts. No exams. Typically no class on friday either! Just some online things. He does talk a lot at the class which can be boring but I honestly could care less since it is an easy A.
Pretty easy A if you do your part, like showing up to class and putting in at least some effort into the assignments. He has a lot of online discussion days which are really nice.
Hybrid course! Dr. Hart is a VERY interesting guy, but he truly cares about what is talking about. There are 4 books from textbook rental which he kind of expects you to read them fast. Weekly discussions online worth 45% of the grade, and attendance is 20% - so you do have to show up to class. Only two "papers". Just show up and get an A.
Dr. Hart is chill. He has a lot of discussion posts but none are that difficult. He requires some level of group participation, but it's not bad. He also made it very clear that he is always available to answer questions.
Dr. Hart is a very easy professor, but does not have an outgoing personality. His class was quiet and awkward at times. Class consists of many readings, small quizzes, and discussion posts. Over half of your grade is based upon 2 papers that are straightforward. The class is hybrid, so only expect to be in class once or twice a week.
Lectures can get long and boring but just stick with it. There are 5 books that you have to read throughout the semester but the assignments are easy. Hybrid course so fridays were always online discussion and Wednesdays were either online or zoom. Easy gen ed.
I took his Hybrid ENG 200, we only met in person on Monday, Wednesdays were on Zoom, and Fridays were online work at your own time. Pretty easy class, nice guy. Not a high point class so if you miss something it will for sure affect your grade.
David was so nice overall, his lectures were very boring but not that bad. Attendance is mandatory so make sure to go to class. You have 5 books to read but I only skimmed through them and did good. Assignment's are easy, just a discussion post almost every week. I would recommend if you're looking for an easy class!
I think if you actively participate you will be able to take a lot away from his lectures, our class was hybrid so we had one in person lecture, one online lecture, and one day as our a-synchronous learning day. If you're the type of person who learns better in the comfort of your dorm, or just doesnt like coming to class, this is for you
