Once again, a fantastic class...expected nothing less
Hottie! Didn't miss a class
Question? Question? Anyone? wall, celing, floor
A God among professors!! Excellent Prof!
Fantastic class, tremendous professor! It doesn't get better than Dave - he rocks!
Do Readings before class. Write lots.
You could bounce a quarter off that ass!!!
great prof...fave line: if oyu didn't do well on this test, you have to ask yourself three questions...did I do my readings? do I understand the material? did I study? Classic!
Strong prof, tries to keep you involved which we all know can be really hard *naps*
I have him for two of my classes this year and they are my two favorite. He does a great job in explaining everything. I especially enjoyed how he taught us how to write an essay by using the team Canada win over the USA in the Olympics as an example.
Once again, another fantastic course from Dave...
Gotta dig the eyebrow ring! Totally does not come off as the typical dull professor. I've taken a couple with him and would again. He's clear about what he expects and extremely fair.
Midieval history rocks, Dave rocks, the class rocked. Too bad I'm not a history major.
Very good prof who is prepared for every class. Isn't insistent on formalities. Just a good teacher overall.
really cool guy, knows his stuff!
Yikes! Don't know what everyone else is smoking who's been posting on here, but, damn! I'm a history major and I found his classes difficult, if not outright BORING! Taking this class was definately a waste of time & $$$
Don't know what the last poster was talking about; everyone else, including me, thinks he's great.

So helpful if ever you have questions, even if they aren't related to the course material. Very friendly and easy to approach and interesting (some of the jokes are pretty bad though). Overall he's a relaxed prof who you can talk to like a chum.
He is a greay prof who is a very fair marker, easy to understand and easy going, some of the material is dry but thats History for you.
great prof, tests are relatively easy if you take good note and go to class.
Hay is a very good prof I would recomend taking his class.
Greatest prof i had that semester, corny jokes?, yes but it made for a light and easy going atmosphere of the class. I would definitely reccomend taking a class he is teaching!
Fantastic class. Strongly recommend. Dave is hilarious, approchable, and easy to listen to. If you need help, he's more than willing to help you out. I'm nowhere near a history major, and I have really been enjoying the course :)
He is an amazing prof! He lectures really well and is really organized and knows what he is talking about. He goes out of his way to help the students and is really approachable. He also has amazingly great corny jokes!
Great prof! He is available in office hours. He can project the info with clarity, and is easy, he also is funny as hell. Take it with him!
Dave is a wonderful teacher, extremely helpful and remarkably attractive. It is very refreshing to have a professor who can teach the material so well and in such an interesting manner.
Zomg amazing!
Great Class! This was my first class with Dave, and I'd definately recommend him. He's very approachable, and is a great guy. Attendance is really important as the textbook can be a little dry, and his jokes don't hurt either!
Medieval is not my favourite subject, but David made the coure less dreadful with his layed back approach and reasonably engaging lectures. Pretty easy marker.

Prof. Hay is an awesome History prof!! He makes the content so easy to understand and his laid-back lecturing style is great. He is funny in a subtle, awkward kind of way (highly amusing). He is very approachable too. Quizzes are pretty easy but there is a long research paper required, be warned. Great prof for intro!!
He's such an amazing professor. He wraps everything up nicely, has fair expectations, and is incredibly funny. And he's quite nice to look at. To be honest, I have an A in the class and have never picked up the textbooks, but I go to class religiously. Highly recommended!
Dave is great proff. If you going to take history courses, take it with Dave. History 1000 has two quizzes worth that he takes your best mark from. One midterm that you have to write an essay and answer short answer questions. 1 research paper that he PROVIDES the sources and a final worth 30%. Easy B or A if you go to class and study your terms.
Simply delicious! David is by far the best prof I have ever had at the U of L, I love taking his classes and do so whenever they are avaiblable! He is super easy, funny and adorable! You would have to be borderline retard to not do good in his class!
I like to read in my free time about history, so maybe I should just stick to that. I didn't do very well, but I still tried the best I could.
Prof. Hay is a great teacher. Just go to class and take notes and study the terms and you will get an easy A or B. No need to read the textbook.
David is a good prof..His quizzes are very easy. But if you get frustrated by people saying aww than don't take him because it is a regular occurence for him.
My first comment on this class is that the textbook is not required! His lectures are succinct and to the point, so you should be able to do well as long as you write good notes and study the terms. David Hay is an amazing professor, so you should definitely register in his class if given the opportunity. Work hard and you will do well!
Very good teaching style. Tests were no surprise. As long as you atttended class it was very easy to do well. I would definately take another course with him.
He is an amazing teacher. I was totally hooked into History after taking his class!
He's a great prof and he made the class very interesting. His tests are easy as long as you go to class. You do not need the textbook in this class, he covers everything that you need to know so getting the textbook is a waste of money. I would take more classes with him for sure.
He's a really good prof. Knows his stuff and makes class easy to attend. His comments on tests and essays are useful. He also adds humour into the class!
Took him for the Crusades class. Knows his stuff - tries to make things humorous. I enjoyed his teaching style and he made the class really interesting. Grading is fair and his tests are okay. Mid-term and a final. Really helpful "test" paper he gives you so you don't lose marks on the major ones.
Withdrew from the class because I changed my major and didn`t need the course anymore, but he is a clear and effective prof with enjoyable lectures.
Great Prof, very helpful, class is interesting. Available for help outside of class.
Great prof. Had him for medieval history. Very helpful in and out of class, and is readily availble; shown by his quick response to emails and his office avaibility.
The most engaging professor I have encountered at the UofL and I am a Mgt student not a History Major. I am probably bias because he read my test paper in front of the class to show others how to make a good argument. I hope he didn't know who I was at the time because I went beat red.
Great professor, very clear and fair
Very clear and engaging teacher. Enjoyed his class very much. Make class fun to be at. made class laugh all the time and made people want to come back
Wonderful Professor! made me want to change my major. Tells history like one big story and uses relevant examples from present day. Makes jokes and makes everything crystal clear! Take any class you can get with him!
Absolutely fantastic. Nothing was unclear, all content covered and necessary was well laid out and available. A lot of text book use, good balance of testing on material in text and from lectures.
David is an excelent professor. He marks fair and easy. He makes classes interesting and enjoyable. He is very funny. As long as you attend class, you can do well. My favorite prof so far.
Really great professor, makes class seem personal. His tests are hard but he marks essays easily. Very funny and very good looking!
Made history come alive. Very intesresting, and was a wonderful experience. Pay attention in class and do all the terms, and you'll do great. There's no reason to not get a b or higher
Very great professor. Will help you whenever you need it. Goes over everything so it's crystal clear. Willing to answer any questions you ask him. Defintely recommend taking History with this Prof.
My favourite prof so far, I had him for 2100 also and he is just ask helpful. Makes everything to clear and marks so easy. Im a history major, but have recently decided to switch, though I considered staying mostly because his classes are so enjoyable. And he's really good looking;)
Prof. Hay is amazing. Very funny and made classes interesting and engaging. Makes a clear layout of what will be important to take notes on at the start of class. Wants to see you do well and is not a hard marker.
Amazing Prof! Looking forward to taking his more advanced classes!
Do yourself a favour and TAKE AS MANY CLASSES WITH THIS MAN AS POSSIBLE. By far one of the best professors at the U of L. Fun and interesting classes.
I have taken 4 classes with Dr. Hay, and I hope I can take many more! He is amazing. Best prof ever.
He is great! Come to class and you are sure to do well with him. Easy marker, and he makes class interesting and keeps you engaged! and you can actually learn a lot from him too! always a bonus :)
Dave is funny and very upbeat. Reminds me of an excited child whenever he walks in. Memorize your stuff and you'll do very well.
Obviously the best professor in this department. Notes are crystal clear and easy to memorize as long as you try. It is a lecture course so you should attend. Can't wait to take more classes with him. He is an amazing prof :)
BEST TEACHER EVER! he goes out of his way to make the class as interesting as possible. he is the most passionate teacher I've ever had. Tests are fair, as long as you study you will get a good mark.
Amazing prof! Loved being in his class. Never used the text book, but I did use the primary sources text when writing the paper. If you go to class and pay attention to the lectures you can pass the tests. He was very approachable and was always sure to explain something that didn't make sense. Highly recommend his class!
Always took time to answer questions in class and somehow covered all he said he would at the same time.
So fantastic!!! Love his style of lecturing, very clear on all topics, super helpful and nice. Take all his classes!!
David is a great prof, and one of the best at U of L. I was already a history major when I took his course, but I know first years who changed their major to history because of him. He's very respectful and gives very good lectures; he knows his stuff, and he knows how to teach. You'll be glad you took him, even if history isn't your major.
He does not provide slides with actual material, just pictures that go along with the material that he talks about. He reads and lectures off his personal notes, so be prepared to be writing the entirety of the class. He covers a lot of material but does allow time for questions. If he doesn't know the answer, he will have it for ready next class.
Hay is such a great guy! Lectures are extremely interesting and easy to understand. He gives you a chance to ask questions at the end of every little topic he talks about during class. Test/ assignments fairly easy if you put the effort in to study. Generally easy class if you study.
-Tests are based on lectures and cover detail went over during class time. Know the key terms in depth for exams. Professor Hay makes medieval history fascinating and hilarious! I highly recommend this class. -He is also readily available outside of class and will go over your essay with you. Students can tell he wants them to do well.
When a history professor can get you sucked into the narrative, you know you've found someone special. Hay knows his stuff, and he knows how to teach it in a profoundly interesting way. It is NOT an easy course, but it is a fascinating one, and I would recommend Hay's courses to anyone interested in history (especially Medieval history).
The lectures were super interesting but it was a lot of material. Taking notes is SUPER important and you seriously cannot miss class because otherwise you can't get the notes. He is very helpful if you go talk to him and he gives good feedback on essays and whatnot but was in no way an easy class.
I love David's lectures. T-hey are clear and precise. He gets you all the information you need. If you attend classes you should be able to get a great mark.
David really inspires you to want to learn history. He defiantly shows you his love in his lectures and keeps the from being dry with his corny sense of humor. David doesn't give many assignments so its important to do well on the ones he does. He is an fairly easy marker and is defiantly approachable for anything you need. Will take again!
Reading the Textbook is not necessary, but it can definitely help when coming to essay prep.
David is awesome. His classes are very interesting and he always makes the class laugh. His lectures are important though. He does post slides but the information is limited and without notes you're in trouble. He does give you everything you need to do well on essays and exams too. I really enjoyed the class and would suggest it to everyone.
I loved Davids lectures, he's funny and if you need help he's more than willing to help out
I loved David's class, he was extremely passionate about what he taught and it came through in his lecture. He posts skeleton notes online so you have to come to class to know what's going on and he has terms online to know for the tests. He's an easy marker and is willing to help if you don't understand a concept. Would take another class with him!
David was an amazing prof! He cracks a lot of cheesy jokes during lectures, but it helps make the material a lot more interesting. You can tell he's very passionate about what he teaches, it really comes out through his lectures. He's a pretty easy marker and gives good feedback. We only had 2 tests and a paper for the class. Highly recommend!
He's an amazing professor who makes his class interesting and makes it so you don't want to miss a class just for his humour and personality
His lectures are pretty clear and concise and he makes sure you understand it before he moves on to another topic. He includes photos to help the information be learned. Make sure that you read the primary sources, they are useful when it comes to the essays in the midterm and final, they can be used as good examples.
I took History 2100 (Main Themes in Medieval History), 3103 (The Crusades), and 4100 (Violence in Medieval Society) with Dr. Hay and he is fantastic. Reading the primary sources and assigned readings is recommended if you want anything higher than a B. Lecture style is engaging and he is very knowledgeable. Very willing to help with any questions.
Really good prof, tries to make the material interesting. I would recommend him. I thought he was good (maybe not as amazing as I've heard) but still a really solid choice. A midterm test, an essay, and a final. So a good choice if you don't want toooo much work
Prof. Hay is wonderful. He has a great passion for the material and there is never a dull moment in one of his lectures. If you even have a passing interest in the medieval era, take 2100 and he'll make it one of your favorite times in history.
Great prof. He is very funny making multiple references to pop culture to help students understand material. You MUST ATTEND class, if you don't your almost certainly not going to pass. He doesn't rely to heavily on the textbook but it is very helpful. He has a couple of "optional" classes for helping you right your paper, TAKE THEM.
David was a very enjoyable prof to learn from, he made the lectures interesting and engaging, it was extremely helpful to show up to class and to take good notes and i would recommend not skipping. His testing criteria was very straightforward and that made studying for this class easy
David is my favourite professor so far at the University! Makes lectures super interesting with lots of references to pop culture. He's very quirky and his jokes keep things interesting! Fair with grading. Definitely recommend going to lectures and taking as many notes as possible, as the essay questions on the tests can be fairly specific.
My favourite prof! Makes his lectures as if he's telling a story and I never actually notice that it's the end of class until he wraps up his lecture. Would consistently stop to make sure everyone is on the same page. PPTs mostly images so you should attend class. Really wants us to succeed. You do one paper for the midterm and then 2 for the final
His lectures are super easy to follow and always tries to make sure everyone is following along or if we need him to slow down/clarify something. Super understanding and he was honestly such a gift to have as a professor especially for my first year in university. I hope to have him as a prof again soon
David's classes are engaging and he is prompt on answering questions or addressing concerns. He does make little jokes once in a while to lift the mood of the class. He loves the content and this radiates off of him into the class. It really makes the class just so much better.
David Hay has to be by far one of my favourite professors at the University. His lectures are interesting and will add photos and diagrams to keep peoples engagment, which was nice. He was fast at marking things and getting them back and was overall very fair when it came to the grading. I am excited to take further classes with Hay.
Very engaging, you can really tell he loves the subject! Exams have a lot of choice on which questions to answer. Very caring about his students and makes the subject very interesting. Great Prof!
He has been my favorite professor so far yet! David did such a great job at making his lectures engaging. We dont have many tests or assignments and that made it easier to just show up to class and take in what he was teaching. I would recommend him to anyone!
Awesome prof! David makes the class both engaging and interesting. Definitely would recommend for a GPA booster. There's a textbook for this class, but he only tests the terms talked about in lectures using content from the lectures, so definitely not necessary to read it. Picky about grammar, but gives helpful feedback, and marks within reason.
I really enjoyed professor Hays' class. He graded very fairly and his lectures are a delight. The whole time he sounds like he's telling a story not lecturing. He engages with the students and it feels more like an intimate conversation/discussion. I highly recommend his classes.
Although I enjoy Prof. Hay, this is the first B I have received in my post-secondary journey. The course is heavy in readings. There are 3 textbooks, and he uses them all. I struggled to balance the readings with my course load. However, he is fair and knowledgeable. Do not expect high grades unless maybe you are a history major.
Professor Hay is hands down my favourite professor at the University of Lethbridge. I took History 1000 and 3850 with him and I am taking The Crusades just so I can be in his class again. Yes, he is a tough grader, but he is there to help and set you up for success. His lectures were interesting and felt like he was telling a story. Take his class!
David Hay is my favourite professor at the U of L. He makes expectations very clear and his classes are easily passable provided you attend class. Everything that will appear on exams is clearly noted in lectures, meaning you will not need the textbook if you take good notes. His lectures are entertaining and he marks essays extremely fairly.
One of my favourite profs at uleth. his lectures were interesting and everything you need to know for tests is mentioned in them. he records all lectures so if you miss you can still watch them. marks very fairly on papers and tests. he requires a textbook for class and assigns readings but you can usually get away with not reading them
Took him in History 1000. He had really good and interesting lectures. His tests included essays but he has classes devoted to helping you do well in them.
Hay is a kind and funny professor who delivers interesting lectures. Lectures are posted online, so attendance isn't vital. Tests consist of a lot of memorization of terms with very specific facts, so make sure to study for longer than you anticipated. Not many complaints; his grading is fair and I enjoyed him.
