Terrible teacher for this online class. Did not present clear objectives. Provided absolutely no feedback regarding grades given. Was rarely available for assistance (3 hours per week). Not at all flexible regarding technical issues or misunderstandings, which is essential to an online class.
Great teacher! Though in some cases he's a bit harsh, he's fair all the way.
Good guy, enjoys his job, willing to help in any way, lives up north so his hours are limited, but does his best. Tests are tough, but fair. Not the easiest, but he gives more than he asks.
Interesting topics were discussed but tests were different from the lectures, professor was unhelpful when reached, and defensive when approached.
He is very nice, the lectures are interesting. However, you must attend classes because his test are hard and everything on them are covered in class.
Good guy. Tells lots of jokes. Don't take him if you like to have your papers graded in a timely manner! MUST LISTEN TO LECTURES! I recommend good to perfect attendance in order to pass the class. Inconsistent on grading, use your notes as much as possible on his tests- which by the way are really hard.
his tests are all multiple choice but the answer choices are all very similar, making his tests impossible to pass. doesn't give extra credit. lectures he reads almost word for word out of the book, and laughs at his own jokes.
This was an online class, in which I did not learn a thing. This guy does not respond to emails, return messages or post grades in a timely manner. Nor does he provide feedback so you have no idea where you stand especially since it takes him a little more than two months to post grades. Highly not recommended
extreamly harsh grading. Does not respond to emails, slow grading.
I took this class online over the summer and wasn't that bad. There are two group assignmets which are pretty easy and a 2 papers (one big, one small). He will never answer your emails. But ended up with a B, in which I didn't feel like I learned a thing.
Don't take him. You are better off with another teacher. TRUST ME!!!!
An Amazing teacher for MAN 3611. Extremely knowledgeable and one of the best teachers i have taken during the summer. Highly recommended!
Great professor. Lectures are interesting, nice guy to learn from. Grades are primarily based on exams. No homework, and attendance is not mandatory, but you better do well on the exams to get a good grade. Overall good professor, really enjoyed his class and would take it again
Worst teacher at FAU. I took this online class, aka Distance learning, does not respond to any emails, posts grades very late. By the time you know your standing in the class you have already failed. Requires too much for an online class. No one has that kind of time. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED!
Never responds to emails, posts grades late, test questions are very ambiguous. Lecture is worthless. Horrible...you will have to learn on your own.
Even though he grade stuff very late; I still think he is a great professor. He help out my group over the summer and it's was a distance learning course.
Very Good online class, weekly quizzes no exams several group projects. All do-able if you read the book & materials. Grades fairly, student friendly, very organized, clear instructions (an absolute must for online courses)If you haven't tried an online class this is the one to start with.
Introduction to Business. Herst is a great professor. Super knowledgeable on everything business! He didn't only stick to the curriculum but brought much of his own knowledge into class. He expects you to read the book, and you will need an Iclicker. Class consists of online quizes, Iclicker and exams. Pay attention, take good notes. good class.
No attendance, Only online quizzes, no final, lectures were boring so i usually diddnt go, but he does iclicker which counts as a grade. not a bad guy, funny at times. never used my book
i took him for intro to ent at davie ... do not take him.. I'm an A student and received a C+ ... very hard
Very smart man. He will teach you alot about everything you need to know in the world today. Tests and quizzes are online, no final. Pretty easy class if you pay attention. The only bad thing is that he gets on tangents very easily so he got 2 chapters behind at the end of the semester. Only complaint. And it's not too bad.
Group projects are 66% of your final grade, so if you are stuff with a bad group you are in trouble. gives extra credit, tests are difficult but read and the understand the book and you will be fine. Tests are weekly and there is no final or mid term.
Loves his job. Made the class very interesting. Grades are based off iclicker points and online quizzes. A very enlightening class if you are considering business as a major.
Extremely easy class...if you have the right group. I was very lucky to work with a very responsible group. Other than that, just read the book and you will pass.
The class is easy, you really Don't need to take notes as long as you read the chapter in the book. Every quiz is done online, iclicker quizzes are done randomly so you should go to class lol...no final
HOrrible teacher, I do not think he should even be called a teacher. I did not learn a thing from his class. Boring classes, he grades everything late. I am an A student in all my other classes and I got a C+ in his class. Dont take him!
Worst teacher ever. His lectures were not helpful at all. If you have to pass you have to take it with another teacher otherwise you stuck. Unfortunately, i had no option. I do not recommend him.
He is not fair and not helpful with quizzes and glitches that are not your fault. Don't have him as a professor.
I never had any problem with the professor. Dr. Herst was very helpful. The only problem I had was with students who think they will do nothing and still pass the class.
Online class that isn't easy. Quizzes are 15 questions in 15 minutes and 4 groups projects. Quizzes are hard because you have a minute for each question and each week is a new topic. Not the easy A I thought. Don't waste your time on this elective.
iClicker quizzes every so often. I didn't buy the book I just took notes and did pretty well in the class. Quizzes every week online that are timed but if you take good notes you're good. He tries to make class interesting.
Worst professor i've had at FAU. He is rude, extreamly boring, and not helpful in any way. He goes on rants, half the stuff he states in his lecture aren't on the quizzes (which are timed 15 min for 15 questions). your grade consists of 14 quizzes and a 4 part paper. if you don't do well with timed quizzes DO NOT take this class, you will fail.
Dr. Herst is extremely knowledgeable about everything having to do with business. Go to class, rather than watch the video stream. Make sure to STUDY notes and TEXTBOOK to do well on quizzes. They add up and at the end of the course you will NEED every point possible. Not an easy elective at all. Cumulative final. I am HOPING for a B overall...
Dr. Herst is a very good instructor, who really knows what he is teaching. He is very kind and helpful. I would highly recommend taking his class.
Class is pretty straight forward, he does not accept late work and the quiz were a bit hard because its 15mins for 15 questions so reading the powerpoint slide first helped a bit. As for the group assignment my only advice is make sure its answers what it asked and that you try to start it before the due date so there is no rush.
Dr. Herst led great class discussions and really got everyone involved. Not very clear instructions for his assignments. I was hoping for feedback on my papers and got none. Cumulative paper was very valuable to me as a leader and I enjoyed relating the surveys he had us take to my personal styles.
Dr. Herst is very confuse. The class should be for business (MBA), but it was meant for philosophers. Leadership is a very important theme for managers, but not as teacher by him. If your major is in business, give up on him.
You can pass this class in your sleep. All test questions comes from the PowerPoints he posts on blackboard. Get as much points as you can from the online quizzes because they ultimately make the difference between passing and excelling. Not necessary to go to class as long as you keep up.
This class is super EASY! weekly quizzes 15Q in 15 mins super easy though. This class is all group work it prepares you to work with all different types of people and working together. Super easy if you get your group together. He is an easy grader on project. follow rules and you'll pass. I don't no why he isn't rated easier. Got A.
One of the best professors I've had at FAU. Very knowledgeable and nice. Lectures are very interesting. 3 tests and about 10 video quizzes on blackboard. Not an easy A but as long as you show up to class, take notes, and use the study guides you will be fine. He loves to help students with their careers and give advices. Strongly recommend!!
Ok class, few 15 min quizzes&4 group assignments. If you read the chapters and collaborate with your group mates, you will pass the class. Takes forever to grade the group assignments and also it is a little bit tricky doing group projects in a fully online class. Except for that, nice professor, easy pass, informative class. XTRA CREDIT available.
This class was said to have a high fail rate, but i took on the challenge. It gave me no troubles what so ever. He gives about 10-15 quizzes that are about 80 questions in length with a set timer of an hour, but it is simple and the answers are right in front of you. There are 3 tests. Study the study guide and you will surely pass! I Recommend it.
If you do not have to take this class, don't. The simulation you have to do is hard and doesn't teach you anything. This is coming from an A Student.
Herst is a cool professor. A lot of people say his material comes directly from the powerpoint but honestly I think it comes from various places like the textbook, lectures, and the powerpoint. You really have to understand the material if you want an A
I had him for intro to business, which quickly became my favorite class of the semester. His lectures aren't mandatory, but they are so interesting you will want to go. Honestly if you try, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to pass.
The simulation for the class is hard, beware! Everything else is easy!
Was not interested in Business at all after taking this class. Nothing wrong with the Prof. but the class was rather boring. Group project given in the middle of the semester (PICK YOUR OWN GROUP MEMBERS!) Study guides given before each exam; but you still need to STUDY.
I never went to class because attendance is not mandatory and I thought my self through the power points he posted and did all his reviews before exams. The cons are there are quizzes every week that are timed and personally the quizzes are harder than the exam. group simulation project is annoying and the paper has to be 6-8 pages!
Attendance wasn't mandatory, but I attended almost every class because I'd rather go to class than teach myself. Homework/quizzes were difficult and weren't relevant to the lectures. The group project was frustrating, and I didn't learn much from it. The paper wasn't that bad because we split up the 8 pages between us. Very nice, curved our grades.
I hated him, had to email multiple times to get clear understanding of the syllabus and he wouldn't answer my emails explaining what had to be done. You are put in a group with people who score the same on the first test so if you want to do good on group work make sure you do good on first exam. Simulations a joke soooo hard and make no sense
For online class you will be working in groups, each group will have 4 essays & chapter quizzes. It's not as scary as it sounds, the quizzes are easy & the key is to follow his essay instructions to a tee. Be sure to hit all points on the rubric. You can't lose points on the essays if you do exactly as he says. He pretty much spells it out.
For the online class at least, about 60% of your grade is based on group projects, so a big chunk of your grade is at the mercy of random people you're paired with (my group was a hassle). The rest are from quizzes. You learn everything from reading as the professor provides no lectures or notes. Drops some low quiz grades.
lectures were posted online. doesn't take attendance but he explains the lecture in depth when going to class. the test were significantly harder than you think its gonna be. need to study hard.
Class is interesting bc hes an industrial psychologist. Rlly nice guy but expects you to keep track of what you have to do so stay organized! read the textbook, the ppts come from the textbook co so reading the chapters will give you everything- tests still on the hard side. Quizzes open note. 3 tests in class. No final. 3 discussions. Ed quizzes
Lectures were very interesting. Quizzes are open book but you have little time complete them so definitely suggest you know what youre doing before you take them. He offers lots of extra credit and always very on point upgrading grades. Hes GREAT however I would suggest you dont take his tests lightely they can be kind of difficult w/o studying.
Professor Herst's class was a pleasurable experience. He seems to genuinely care about his students' success, and I sincerely looked forward to his lectures. However, material he covers tends to be oversimplified. It is imperative to read the book and study for exams. He can also be difficult to get in touch with at times. Great overall, however!
This guy is one of the worst professors I've ever had. He has little to no communication with his students whatsoever over email, which is essential. He dropped one of my extra credit quizzes and refused to tell me why, just pointed to a syllabus which didn't have the answers. And this guy gave me a zero on an assignment I finished a while ago...
Hes a good guy but really hard tests. Theres online hw and quizzes that are easy, just the test are super difficult and not all from powerpoints, which are are online. You don't have to show up either but I heard online class is better.
His lectures were boring and seemed extremely unrelated to the class at hand. Had to rely on the book and didnt do too well even though I made sure to take the class. Would NOT reccomend.
Please for your own good, DO NOT take this professor. He made an Intro class the hardest class I've taken. He takes a minimum of a week to reply to e-mails, makes tests way harder than they need to be, and the exam reviews don't even include the actual exam's material. If you want to dodge a bullet, do not take this class.
Quizzes and HW are online and are the easiest. The in class exam on the other hand are hard he words them very uniquely. Follow the directions for the discussions thoroughly those are heavily marked and weighted.
This professor has an extensive fear of students cheating. He makes everything more difficult than it should. You will be better off taking an online course than his in class lectures.
Herst at least has a personality. He spends his lecture time trying to make jokes that aren't amusing to his audience (It's amusing that it's not amusing). His lectures are very informative though, he uses great real-world examples to explain Management Principles. Tests are easy. The textbook is recommended especially when completing study guides.
This man does not deserve the hate he gets. He's a bit dorky and the jokes he makes are very corny but they keep the class from being super boring. The tests are not really based on the ppts too much. If you read the chapters in the book, however, the tests are not difficult at all. Very likeable and if you sit in the front and listen, he'll notice
He wasn't bad but does take forever to grade. He was tough and picky with some of the writing but seems to care about his students. You're graded only on papers individual and group-based, so it's a lot of writing. If you are great with critical thinking and apply the learning concepts, you'll be fine. Participation counts in this class.
Honestly, I don't know why he has such bad rating but I really enjoyed his class. He was funny (sometimes he made jokes that were not but I was funny to see him try). He DOES NOT like cheating OMG if you get caught cheating that's it. Tests were not that difficult just study the pwp and read the book and go on Quizlet and you should be fine.
Tests are hard and hes very hard on grading the discussion posts... which is a little unfair given the current circumstances of not having in person learning for the past many months!
Multiple choice quizzes every other week (or every 2/3 chapters) + 3 discussion boards. Quizzes are hard but he's caring and wants to help you! Read the book and youll be fine. Gave extra credit because the online classes were intense, listens to student feedback! Tough grader but funny and good person
I don't understand why he has such a low score on rate my professor. I actually really enjoyed his class and you can tell he really cares about his students passing. He gives, a lot of extra credit to boost your grade up and always replies to emails. His grades is based on tests and discussion. If you study for his test you'll be fine.
This teacher is a great business teacher! I really like how he explains concepts with real life scenarios and analogies so it is perfect to understand concepts. Dr. Herst will explain concepts very well and you can call him in office hours to best understand everything. He is very accommodating.
Super nice guy
If youre someone who relies on help from or reliable grading from the professor, look somewhere else. On multiple occasions, he has taken MONTHS to grade assignments, and also will take over a week in some cases to respond to emails. I have taken him twice and this has been a common thing with both classes. Do not take this professor.
I took this prof for an intersession semester and I thought it was easy, even at a fast pace. His lectures didnt really help me .I read the book, didnt really study, and got a solid A. Make sure you follow the directions on the discussion posts and you will do well. The people complaining about him didnt take the time to read what was expected
If you read the book before his lectures & read instructions thoroughly you'll do fine. The weight of his assignments are weird? No exams: Syllabus + intro 5%, 3 discussions 30%, 6/7 honor lock quizzes 40%, & innate abilities 25% but is $100 & is more "for fun" not related to course material... but he does offer a ton of extra credit opportunities!
Dr. Herst is one of the best professors at FAU. Class is a lot of busy work but very doable. Quizzes are curved. His lectures are very good and he is relatable to students unlike many other professors. Take him if you have the chance.
Honestly one of the easiest classes in the college of business, seriously take him for MAN3025, he is awesome!! Lectures are interesting and easy to follow. Quizzes are quite frankly mostly common sense so just watch the lectures and you will be fine. This class is a good break and easy A.
Really easy going professor. The class was mostly made up of quizzes and it was based on the lectures. Lockdown browser with camera used on all quizzes. Not difficult. Gives lots of extra credit towards the end of the semester.
A great professor who explains the material in a very digestible way, and it seems like he cares about his students and enjoys teaching. I really enjoyed his class. It is not an easy A but if you attend the lectures and do the readings it is not too difficult. He does take a lot of time to grade assignments and tests which is frustrating at times.
He was an okay professor, a lot of homework but easy. so do not fall behind. you have to work with other people from the class a lot. i never got an A in any of the assignments but I ended the class with and -A which i was super happy about.
Super Easy class but a horrible professor. I'm waiting for his response on 5 emails regarding him not grading my assignments. Literally doesn't respond and prob doesn't care. 1 open note quiz 10 questions and 1 lockdown quiz 30 question every other week. 3 negotiations with random students, Easy and fun. Easy class. Only downside is the prof.
Overall an easy course, you have a few discussions and surveys to complete for a grade. You take 6 total quizzes with a bonus 7th if you need extra credit. Provides plenty of extra credit opportunity. If you need to take Intro to Management, I recommend him. Straight forward class!
The class itself was easy and he provides a good amount of extra credit. But I wouldn't take another one of Dr. Herst's classes because he takes too long to grade assignments and he takes long to respond to emails. I had to email him 3 times just to get his attention, it's ridiculous.
This class is pretty hard to fail. There's a lot of homework but they are easy and as long as you do them you'll get the full points. There are no exams, instead only 7 quizzes (not open notes/book though), and he drops your lowest quiz score. Also lots of extra credit! Not much to complain about except that he takes around a week to grade quizzes.
Have taken this professor twice now, absolutely love his style of teaching!
Dr Herst is a very kind professor with clear expectations for his students. Exams can be difficult but his lectures are really fun and overall a very interesting class. No homework :) Do me a favor if you take this class, study study study for his exams and read the textbook!!!!
Really nice guy. In-class exercises were very easy but the tests were kind of hard, so make sure you complete and study the exam reviews he provides. Syllabus said textbook was required but we never really used it. Study the ppts.
Engaging Lectures, semi-difficult exams, & an amazing Professor. The best part of the class is the in-class negotiations with ur classmates as you'll soon find out that everyone becomes a sociopath so niceness is a weakness. Depending on the class u also get free entertainment between two people negotiating as they're screaming at each other too.
One of the most genuine and compassionate professors I've ever had. The in-class negotiations could be intense but they are enjoyable and good to sharpen your negotiation skills. Take his class. You wont regret it!!
This is for course MAN6937. This class is difficult, but you will learn a lot nonetheless. A tough grader in the group papers but is a great human being who genuinely cares about each student. Wants you to succeed and makes sure you do. Homework due EVERY SINGLE WEEK. Would 100% take it again because of the learning experience I got.
Professor Herst is a great professor. His lectures are great, and he is very knowledgeable, but if you want to do well on the tests, take notes and study from the textbook. His assignments aren't hard at all. You won't regret taking him.
I didn't do so well on the tests, but the homework assignments really helped my grade. The class wasn't hard, but not easy either, just average. My only true complaint is that he never responded to my emails. I'd email the TA, and get told to email the professor, and well... no response. But I passed the class, so I guess that's okay.
Most assignments are from Mcgraw Hill Connect, need the book, you get an A on these assignments, its to prep you. and he also has another book you have to get, 2 attempts to get it right and some quizes. I never watched his lectures, only did the assignments. 6 exams, lockdown. Quizlet helps a lot. Easy class.
He's a caring professor but so much interaction with classmates throughout negotiations, which is ok but seemed like almost every class was negotiation class that I had to talk to people. His tests are hard and you really have to study, understand be able to write down answers. Yes, 4 long written questions and 40 multiple choice. Closed notes.
Professor Hurst is one of the best professors I've had he's a genuinely nice person who wants to help his students learn and succeed. there is No homework, you are graded on 4 in person scantron tests and 6 live in person negotiations. PowerPoint and study guides are provided. With a little participation and extra study time passing should be easy
I loved Dr. Herst. He is a genuine guy who cares about his student's success. He gives good lectures and engages with his students. I highly recommend taking his classes!
He really is a good professor. If you want to pass his class tho you will need to read the chapters and understand the hell out of the terms in order to pass. I blew my first two quizzes with a C each and I still end up with an A. Final is optional
I read the other reviews and I thought i was in for a good professor. Although the class for the most part is rather easy and he is nice. He is the most disorganized professor I have had at FAU. Not only is he disorganized but assigns constant busy work which doesnt help the fact hes all over the place. Makes the assignments much harder it is.
DON'T take this professor. He has 6 quizzes. 30 mins to do 30 questions. Nobody passes them. He drops the lowest grade, but you won't get an A in the class. He doesn't answer emails only the TA. The lecture and material don't really match what's on the quiz. It's unorganized and unprofessional. The HW is easy, but the quizzes are hard.
The reviews are not lying when they say it is a lot of work for this class. It is always 3-4 weekly assignments and tedious work. The tests and quizzes are on-camera. Notes are very important and if you're a procrastinator this is not the class for you.
He is very passionate about the subject matter and gives engaging lectures. That being said, test content often does not reflect what he is lecturing on. Additionally, not enough time is given for quizzes. I think you can generally do well if you study terminology and complete the work, but beware of the exams.
Dr. Herst is good. His lectures are funny which makes the content easy to follow. Despite his funny lectures, ONLY use the book and the definitions to study. His tests come straight from the definitions and content from the book.
Professor Herst was ok. He never responds himself, only his assistants and they didn't help as much when needed. Not the best option, but if you are limited between classes to choose from then take him.
6 negotiations all held over zoom, and each one took over a month to get a grade back on with hardly any feedback. The exams are unnecessarily difficult, and in person with a scantron. While everything on the exams is just like the exam reviews, for our last exam there was a chapter on the review that was not on the test. Get ready to study.
Tests were WHACK, but not his fault. They're generated by McGraw so sometimes they would add questions that weren't covered in lectures and he would give me points back. Very forgiving if you went to office hours. I did pretty horrid on the exams, but perfect on everything else and went to office hours. Most info is common soft skills knowledge.
Professor Herst is a genuine, caring instructor who makes the in-class negotiations engaging. While exams are challenging, the provided study guides and PowerPoints are very helpful. I also found unstuck AI a useful tool for exam prep.
Chill guy fr
This class and this professor are honestly terrible. He has too many expectations for his assignments but lacks good instructions. He assigns so many group assignments and negotiations but if your assigned partner doesn't respond in time then you're screwed. I suggest to find a different professor.
I enjoyed taking his classes. I had him before and he is very understanding. The quizzes are 30 questions in 30 minutes so you have to go quickly. You can have as many notes as you want but they are fast quizzes. His grading is heavily based on the negotiation assignments you have to do over zoom with 1-2 partners. He is very understanding and nice
Super super easy class. Open book online quizzes, he drops the lowest of like everything. Just do all the homework and you'll be fine.
He's a good guy and I respect him, but the tests are on another level. I'd study for a week or more, memorizing every term, and then BAM—the exam felt like it was from a totally different class. Check the other reviews, I'm not exaggerating. This happened test after test. You can grind hard and still be lucky to get a B. Otherwise, class was fine.
This class is way too hard for a business elective. (harder than my Fin and Econ classes) Exams are in-person with a scantron plus five writing questions, and even with serious studying I couldn't score above a B. The professor is outdated, rigid, and not understanding. I regret taking this class. It added unnecessary stress to my life.
Attendance wasn't required and the assignments were overall easy. The only thing are his quizzes. There are 5 total and the lowest one gets dropped, open written notes only, fully proctored, and only 35 minutes for 30 questions. I did awful on all of them no matter how prepared I thought I was. He's a chill guy and cares about his students!
I took in Fall 2024, it is not very challenging. The exams were open note, so there is no reason to not pass. He is also very caring and accessible. The homework outside of Connect were super easy. He even provides ample extra credit opportunities.
