Great lectures for this online class that were clear and too the point. Very helpful in learning the topics. Sometimes he would have really long lectures but as long as you watch them and do the practice quizzes the tests are pretty easy. Everything was open book and note which was awesome. Not much to complain about here definitely easy class to get through as long as you keep up!

Lot's of information in the class that can be used in real life. Hoffman answered all of my emails fairly quickly. Exams were mixed with his questions from his videos and test bank questions. Exams were open book and notes which made them fairly easy. Make sure you do all of the quizzes.

Not a hard class overall. Online lectures are less than an hour per week and readings are okay. He uses different letters in the calculations than the book does which can be confusing. Exams are timed and once you move on from a question you can't go back. Which means you waste time on stuff you don't know and run out of time towards the end. Meh!

This class online was very difficult! I worked my butt off watching the videos and doing all the practice problems, but would barely get C's on the exams! The exams had a TON of new material! Not to mention theres not enough time on exams! You get 60 mins for a 5 question quiz and then only 75 mins for a 26 question exam! Very tough class!

Finance 300 is not an easy class overall. However, professor Hoffman was very clear with his lectures and materials. The quizzes and excel assignment are easy however the test were more difficult and had more time restraints. For test I would make sure to have all the practice problems printed out and done and understand all the conceptual parts

I typically don't care for online classes because I never learn as much. Although, this class was amazing online! You definitely have to do all of the required readings, practice problems, and lectures to get an A. But, you will enjoy doing it. I highly recommend his course.

He curves the class which really helped. Pay attention to his example videos, those are what got me an A. Don't be afraid to go and ask questions to either him or his TA's, they're all very friendly. The reason you need the book is for the test, since online is open note open book (which is only available for online classes; aka take it online)

Surprisingly enough I really enjoyed this class. Everything I learned was something I will be able to use in the future. The tests aren't bad, they are open note and book, and as long as you watch the videos and read a little you will do fine. The final is optional and there was an extra credit quiz as well. I recommend this class.

Hoffman is a bit weird but a good guy overall. Tests were surprisingly tough while quizzes were very easy. Tests were open book open notes. Test questions were mostly out of the book so you'll get to be real good friends with the index and quiz questions are mostly based on the example problems he does each week.

Hoffman was a huge help when I was struggling with course content. Exams do not always match up with material which is covered in the videos and problem sets. Highly recommend visiting the TA's who were fantastic this semester - willing to meet at any time and great at explaining the more difficult content in a way that is easily understood.

Such a great guy. Really helps out students, curves tests, offers a lot of extra credit. You have to try to fail this class. He really wants everyone to do well. Also lets out class early frequently once we've covered the necessary materials which is nice.

Class schedule and assignments are all very straight forward. If you take the accelerated class, you're going to be doing a lot of work in a short amount of time, more so than others. Quizzes are usually pretty easy if you do hw. Exam questions can be difficult, usually asking you to take class concepts a step or two further than homeworkquizzes.

DON'T be afraid to take this class for summer. If you read the entire chapter, and deeply understand how to do the word problems you can get an A. This isn't your typical marketing or communications class, you will work for your grade. Exams consist of questions from the videos online and then also from the textbook, so don't think you can get by without it. You must go to class to know the material. He doesn't use a textbook. Gives extra credit points at random. Mr. Hoffman is a very good professor and I really enjoyed this class. It was accelerated so it was A LOT of work, but if you keep up and put in the time, you should do fine. The lecture videos are very good and he tends to be a little droll at times, which I found a little amusing.

This class was seriously not a big deal. If you cant pull a B minimum in this course you shouldn't be in business in the first place. With all the extra credit opportunities he basically spots you a letter grade, I mean come on. Take this class asleep and get a B, put pretty minimal effort for an A chance. Be prepared to put in a lot of time. Weekly quizzes based on the lecture and problems set are put in place to make sure that you're keeping upBy doing these, you'll be prepared for about 60% of the exam. Students saying that certain material came from no where didn't read the book. Take the time to understand the concepts and you'll do fine.

Challenging, but expectations are crystal clear. Ample opportunities to boost grade via in-class quizzes & in-class extra credit. Must attend lectures. Grades on quizzes are good indicators of how you'll fair on exams. Don't worry if it seems he goes too fast at first--he's doing you a favor by only going into detail on stuff he'll test on.

Classic example of a good professor teaching a hard class. Hoffman provides plenty of resources, is responsive, and does his best teaching the course. That being said, finance is a dry subject and the material is hard to grasp. Prepare for each test and you should get a good grade. Not a class you can cram for so make sure to study everyday!

Lot's of points given on easy quizzes, discussion posts and excel assignments. You drop an exam if you take all four exams or just skip the final. Exams have 25 questions for 75 minutes, but Hoffman increased the time to 90 minutes on the last couple of exams.

Class is pretty straightforward. Relaxed grading scale. Gives extra credit after exams returned so I have an A so far in the class. Quizzes come from homework and are open notes so attend class.

Attendance isn't mandatory, but his lectures are heavily geared towards the tests. He's patient and willing to help students.

Anyone that complains about his online FIN300 class is either terrible at math and/or shouldn't be in the business program at ASU. He has homework that he walks you through exactly how to solve. Virtually the same questions are on the quizzes. Exams have information from the book but are not difficult assuming you did the reading. A good teacher

As my first ASU online class, as an "A student" this was a tough one. Exams are your entire grade, other than a couple small excel and discussion assignments. Only 209 points possible, with 150 possible points coming from 3 exams. Practice all the problems from lectures, and from book. 75min tests. Can only use a calc and paper notes for RPnow test

Took Hoffman through ASU online and as long as you kept up to date the class was not that difficult. The quizzes came straight from homework problems but the exams were from the text and homework problems. Glad the exams were open book and notes. Curved grading scale.

Great class to take online. His lectures and explanation videos for chapter problems are well done and easy to understand. 7 Quizzes, 3 discussion board posts, 3 excel modules, and 3 tests (with a 4th optional one). Tough class but don't understand the complaints about the quizzes and exams. Both are open book and notes and so far I've gotten all 5's on the quizzes and B's on the exams. The quizzes are like our homework problems. Does give extra credit so an A grade is possible.

There are a lot of quizzes and assignments so pay attention and don't miss any. The quizzes were easy and the tests were hard. You need to put in the time for this class. 6 weeks was way to fast. I earned an A without having to take the final.

My first business class at ASU. All of the notes are online. Quizzes are open notes and he gives us about a weeks notice. Quizzes were just like class homework and the exams can be tricky but everything is from the notes. According to our last blackboard announcement 97% of the class earned a C or better. Hard to fail.

This class is good, the only annoying part is that quizzes are only 5 points so if you miss one point you miss a lot. BUT, they are open text and are pretty easy (basically a copy of the problem examples, just different numbers). Not too hard and you actually learn stuff from text, would recommend.

Great professor, interesting class. 3 Exams are bulk of your grade. Class exam avg was only a 70%, but as long as you know the calculations, they're really not that hard. I didn't like that everything was due by 10 pm versus 11:59 & that grading scale was A, B, C but good for some people. Quizzes are only 5 points, so double check your answers.

This class was fairly difficult, but manageable. Watch the lecture and problem set videos closely and take good notes- quizzes/exams are open book. Hoffman is really knowledgeable and takes a difficult subject and makes it easier to understand. Route memorization won't work in this class, critical thinking is crucial to succeed.

The content is semi-difficult, but should be a mandatory class for all students. The exams and quizzes are open book, but you cannot use an eBook, so get the hard copy. The thing I had a hard time with was the fact that the class is only out of 209 points with 150 of it coming from tests. The quizzes were pretty easy, only 5 questions and you have an hour to complete them. The tests were 25 questions and were pretty difficult even with being open book. There were 2 tests where the problems I had to work out took most of my time so I ran out of time before completing the test. Be careful and watch how long you spend on each question!

Hofmann is a great lecturer, gives many examples to help you understand whatever you need to know. He swears a lot which is most times fine, but other times is just childish almost. He also cares way too much about attendance. Overall though, very solid prof.

As long as you watch the lectures and problem walkthroughs you shouldn't have too much difficulty with the open book, open note tests. Hoffman is super approachable too and always willing to help when you ask.

Professor Hoffman wants everyone to succeed and gives very clear expectations and grading criteria. I took his Eng102 Hybrid class so there were 2-3 assignments due every week, along with papers. His class focus is on animals and the environment. He lets you turn in homework late and barely docks you. Rarely uses the textbook. Forsure Recommend.

He is charismatic, but his online lectures still seem very dry. Do ALL the homework problems because they're crucial for quizzes.

I have no clue how people are giving him bad reviews on here. The class is crazy easy, theres NO homework, the quizzes are open notes, and the exams questions are pulled straight from the practice problems and from the lectures. The final is even optional. He even gives out extra credit I had a 102 for a while. Go to every class and you'll do fine.

One of the best decisions of my college career was taking this class online over the summer. He curves the points required for grades, so only a 62% is needed for a C, 78% for a B, 88% for an A. ON TOP OF THAT, he gives 20 points of extra credit out of a total possible 250 points for the class. That's 8% you can earn just from the extra credit.

Even though this was an online class, Prof Hoffman replied to all my emails really quickly and was always very nice and helpful, whether it was giving advice or clarifying concepts I didn't understand. Take his class for FIN300, online&over the summer if you can. Drops a test, gives tons of xtra credit, and curves overall grades. Totally manageable

Cons: excel homework did not have clear grading criteria and Linda Price was rude/didn't reply, test questions were tricky and required a lot of critical thinking, a lot of time is needed to read the chapters and work through the practice problems

Gives about 13 points of EC, use it. Exams are open book, in person. The material is difficult but his class is set up so you have plenty of resources. You need plenty of days to prepare for his exams even though they are open note. One day of cramming wont be enough. I got a C WITH effort but I also didnt give myself enough time either

Hoffman was amazing. Lectures were engaging and he posted practice problems with explanatory videos. Quizzes were not lockdown. Tests were in class but they were open note and book! If you take notes on the lectures and practice problems, the tests are a breeze! Totally recommend. He seemed to really care. Hard class but much better with David!

I REALLY enjoyed FIN380! I learned so much from this course. Prof. Hoffman did a great job at giving real-life examples when it came to understanding concepts. Lectures were a little dry though. DO THE READINGS they will help you with the tests. Each test has one extra credit question. Downsides are turn in times and locked exams/quizzes.

Wasn't an overall difficult course. There's no extra credit, but his grading scale is curved by 2%. Meaning if you scored an 88%, you got an A, if you scored a 78% you got a B and etc. His online lectures were really clear and had quizzes every other week. He gives you excellent study questions for each quiz that were very similar to Test Qs.

This course is manageable if you apply yourself. Read the textbook! Watch the lectures! Watch the homework videos! There are not a lot of assignments so make sure you study for quizzes and exams.

This course is insanely difficult, but Professor Hoffman is a really nice person. He's very accessible outside of class, and you can really tell he cares about his students. I had to drop the course, but I'll be taking it with him again when I'm ready.

David Hoffman is a very serviceable professor. FIN380 is one of those classes that everyone should take. He does a nice job breaking things down to be easily understood. I don't get some of the bad reviews he has received. This is a pretty straightforward class - even if you suck at math. I hated the RPNow exams - not necessary.

This class is very challenging, but not impossible. Professor Hoffman makes the class as easy as it can be. The homework is optional, but each of the quizzes have problems from the homework, so I suggest doing the homework and watching the video solutions. Exams are much more difficult than quizzes. I highly suggest reading the textbook for exams.

I really liked Hoffman. This course was hard, but I got a C with lots of missing assignments, so it's not bad. l think the course content is really useful! The most helpful part of the class was practice questions, sometimes they were word for word on the tests. He doesn't allow any makeups, so do your work on time. RP Now on tests, which sucks.

I just finished a 7 week class and it was better than I expected. There are 7 quizzes and 3 exams which are open book and notes. The quizzes are similar to homework problems and the exams are a mix of Hoffman's questions and the book authors. If you keep up and take advantage of the extra credit you should do fine. A lot of videos to watch.

The class is very labor intensive and requires you to spend extra time for quizzes and exam. However, Prof is great w/extra credits so just make you sure you maximize on those and you should be fine for the class.

Every point counts, and take as much extra credit as possible. Homework isn't turned in but is necessary if you want to do well on the tests. Dr. Hoffman is very reasonable and communicative. Lectures are straightforward and useful, must watch to succeed. Exams can be very challenging even with notes. Would recommend overall.

David Hoffman is a very solid professor and is understanding of unique circumstances. His lectures are a bit slow, but if you read the textbook and powerpoint slides he posts, you won't need to watch his lectures. Overall, an easy class with a chill professor.

Before I took this class I was worried from the reviews that I read. However, this class was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. The lectures taught how to do the problems very well, the excel assignments were very easy, and everything is open book/notes. Only about 14% of questions on the exams are tricky.

I am currently in FIN300 and am earning an A grade. The quizzes are from the lectures and his homework. His exams make you think and are not easy, the first exam was open book with a low C average. The second exam was closed book with a middle C average. but the exam was based on the lectures. I don't get why others think his exams are unfair.

I would recommend Professor Hoffman as a teacher. He was very helpful and communicated with us often through announcements. I like how he showed the grade averages for the class so we could see how well everyone did. You can learn easily from him as well, and there is not a heavy amount of homework.

The Finance 300 online course is the way to do it. I didn't find it too hard and my friends that took it in person said it was really hard. There's a lot of reading and almost weekly quizzes. There's 3 exams and 2 final. You don't have to take the cumulative final if you don't want to. All quizzes and exams are open note.

Hoffman's FIN 380 class was the most beneficial class I have ever taken. Although I am a financial planning major, the material he covered was EXTREMELY helpful for anyone in everyday life. He covers topics on housing, insurance, bonds, futures & options, tax returns, etc. The exams are based right off class notes and he gives EC for attendance!

Prof Hoffman does a great job of teaching this online course! The canvas is very easy to follow, and the lectures are incredibly helpful. As long as you watch the lectures and do the practice problems, this class is very easy to do well in. He is also very engaged with his online classes by providing feedback through the canvas announcements.

I don't know why all the hate. One of the clearest classes in the Business program. He has very clear lectures. Solve the problems yourself for each unit, make sure you know the algorithm. Then watch his solution. More problems in the textbook. Read the textbook for some of the definitions that are present on the exams. Lots of extra credit.

Manageable homework definitely prepared me for weekly tests, which were easy and straightforward. He was easy to get in touch with to discuss missed exam problems. Textbook only needed for additional study help, but still required. If you watch the lectures, do/check homework problems, review quizzes, you will do well without tons of effort.

Prof Hoffman was a great lecturer. He's pretty funny and I'd recommend this class to anyone regardless of major because everything you learn will be applicable in your daily life. His exam problems are multiple choice and they all come straight from the "homework" (you don't actually have to turn it in). It's an easy class. Show up and you'll pass.

I took this course online. This course will expound upon concepts you learned in accounting, finite math, and statistics. The readings in the textbook form the foundation of what you learn. The lectures reinforce what's in the text. This course has difficult material, but TAs and online tutors are available to help.

Hoffman is a really nice person with an old-school teaching style, he just is going to make you work for your grade. Do the homework many times to grasp the concepts because the exams/quizzes will approach those concepts from a different perspective to confirm that you grasp the concept rather than memorize the steps. Take with an easy course.

Quizzes/exams are the only graded items, but are open-note. Lots of extra credit. Grading system based on points & curved. Excel modules are an incredible waste of time thanks to Linda.

He's a great professor and offers resources to help students be successful in a notoriously difficult class. If you work hard you will do well.

In spite of the reviews, Professor Hoffman was awesome! If you put in your time to read the assigned text, watch the lectures and do your practice assignments---of which he also provides instructional videos--you'll do fine. And if you get stuck, like I did, he's a great patient helper! If I wasn't done, I'd take the personal finance class! :)

If you pay attention, watch the lectures, take good notes, and print off all the homework you will be successful in this class. This professor offers more extra credit than any professor I have ever taken. I emailed him asking for clarification on one of his quizzes and he talked with me for over 1.5 hours! This is a very high quality professor.

I'm begging you to take FIN 300 with Hoffman. FIN 300 is known for being one of the more difficult core business courses, but it really was not bad at all w/Hoffman. I would say that it was even easier than the introductory accounting courses.

Professor Hoffman was a great professor. I enjoyed the class, concepts and everything that went into it. I didn't realize that a grade of "A+" was possible until the end (if you get a 100 in his class). To be fair, I had a 100 up until the last exam, but I took it heavily intoxicated, and still ended up with an A for the course. Math heavy.

He literally explains everything so well and in simple terms. Constantly relates the information to real life examples. There is a quiz every week that you'll only have the day of to complete but they are exactly like the practice problems. If you read the chapters, watch the lectures, and take good notes (can use them on tests) you'll do great.

This online class consisted of one to two lecture videos, video notes (explaining how to solve the problems), and quizzes. There is no "homework" just quizzes (5 questions each) and problems are explained in the videos. the exam is open notes. The professor is amazing and responds quickly and truly passionate about his job. Would take again!

I took this class over the summer, even with the faster pace, it was still pretty easy. Lots of extra credit opportunity. Print out all the lecture notes and make your side notes because exams are open notes. Review the quizzes and their solutions and you should be good. Lots of extra credit opportunity that can also help boost your grade too.

Didn't watch a single lecture or read the book at all. Quiz questions are almost the exact same ones he gives you to practice before the quiz. Same goes from 60% of the exam questions. Do the handful of practice problems each week and you can use them as notes when you take the quizzes and exams, easy B at minimum.

I really enjoyed Professor Hoffman's class. He gave great videos to explain how to do the problems and answered any questions promptly. My only complaint is I wish there was credit given for doing homework problems. The quizzes are five questions and three exams are 25 questions, so if you don't do well, it really affects your grade.

If you are decent on math, you will get an easy A. Otherwise, you will need more time to practice and learn from the homework. Many quiz questions are similar to the homework. You just need to change the numbers and plug into the formula. Don't buy the textbook.

This course is extremely challenging. You will need to put in a lot of effort. It is passable with the effort. There are lots of extra credit points. The quizzes are more difficult than the exams, but the exams aren't easy. Lots of students struggle with this course. The material is difficult, the professor is very challenging.

This class is difficult but Professor Hoffman offered extra credit often, in depth explained all problems/concepts, and was always quick to respond to emails. I was affected by natural disasters that prevented me from being able to do things but he was very helpful/understanding and helped me get back on track. He does NOT like Discord though lol

Professor Hoffman's FIN300 is challenging but doable. Engage with the content, use the free resources like unstuckstudy ai, and you'll do well. The class has a fair workload and a great professor who cares.

Professor Hoffman was accessible outside of the course and posted frequent announcements. The course grade is based solely on quizzes and exams, which makes it a bit tough, but he does offer extra credit. Everything is open note, so if you take notes on the chapters, lectures, and practice problems, you should be able to succeed. Math heavy course

Difficult class, good professor. Put in the work and ask all the questions and you'll do good. He always responded to any questions I had within 5-10 minutes and gave extra credit. Lots of material, but the exams are open note, closed book. Highly recommend the BA II Plus Calculator.

I enjoyed professor Hoffman. Finance is a tough class but he tries to make it easy for the students. Open notes on all quizzes and tests which is extremely helpful. I recommend.

He has very hairy arms which show in his videos, as well as a distracting background noise that I presume are his kids. That's all the bad stuff. The quizzes are open-note. The only notes you need are the homework solutions which he posts step-by-step videos on, with his distractingly hairy arms. The class is mostly math w/ a 4-func calculator.

I found his lecture videos very helpful for exams. I studied the problems he gave because his explanations helped me understand how to apply the formulas. If you actually watch every video and study a bit before exams, you can get an A.

There were ten quizzes, three discussion posts, and four exams (one was dropped). You can have any physical notes for the quizzes and exams and respondus needed. There are lecture videos and worksheets to practice before each quiz. Textbook is not directly needed, but I think some questions came from there in exams, as well as the worksheets.

The quizzes & exams require a lockdown browser. However, it is open to PRINTED notes only. The best way to succeed in his class is to master the quizzes and watch his lectures. Reading the textbook would help out for the exams. A good chunk of the exam questions were from the textbook reading.

One of my favorite professors, I don't understand the hate! He gives you optional HW problems with lecture videos to solve. The quizzes are nearly identical to the HW and you can have your HW and notes with you. Exams are extensions of quizzes, also open note, so quite easy. Not sure what more people want him to do besides hand them the answers...

He's a decent professor, would highly recommend for this course over other profs. The material can be challenging and his lectures really aren't all that helpful, but he gives a lot of extra credit points which greatly helps. Easier to teach yourself the material tbh. My biggest gripe was the lack of organization in Canvas, but he's really not bad.

prof. hoffman is very nice and helpful. the course is difficult and there are only quizzes, exams, some extra credit and 3 discussions toward your final grade. however, if you put in the work and apply yourself. there's no reason why you couldn't pass. it is no doubt a difficult class. but he gives you what you need, you just have to utilize it.

He is quick to reply via email, and HE WANTS YOU TO SUCCEED, but you do have to work for it. Watching the lectures and doing the homework will help you tremendously. He does like to do trick questions, but I feel like it can help you understand the work. Most people think you can just slack off to get the A handed to you, but not this class.

I honestly felt like this class was very manageable. The lectures are sufficient to help you learn the material, just make sure you do the homework and practice problems. Notes allowed on tests but there are quite a bit, sometimes two quizzes in one day. Never used the textbook and passed with an A.

This class was hard don't get me wrong. You have to learn the material by yourself. But his assignments are straight forward. If I got an A- so can you… i'm a communications major so that should paint you a picture. He cares about his students and he's the best professor for this class.

I genuinely don't understand what issues people have with Mr. Hoffman. The expectations are clear and the syllabus lays out everything. The HW problems Hoffman gives you easily prepare you for the exam and quizzes. Additionally, there's a lot of extra credit opportunity. This was a pretty easy class overall.

Finance itself is a tough class, but this professor takes care to give great lectures and go through multiple practice problems so that the studying is just nailing how to do the problems. The test is open notes (no phones), and there is so much extra credit. Tough course, but if you put the work in, this professor is not too difficult!

Professor teaches one way, but then quizzes in another way as if to trick students. Otherwise class was relatively straightforward. Lectures are outdated but interesting. Focus on lecture videos and practice problems and learn how to use a financial calculator for TVOM, IRR, and Standard Deviation. Textbook readings are almost irrelevant.

I loved Hoffman, unfortunately his class was so difficult. I did not feel equipped to learn, I studied his practice problems for 9 hours and the test was completely different so I got a 65%. Similar experience has been had with every other student i've spoken to, his quizzes are harder than the department quizzes. Open note exams. Still do not take

Class/professor is not hard. If you watch his lectures and actually do the problems to practice the concept, then you're fine for the quizzes/exams. No need to read the book. Most students cry that this class/professor is hard because they don't actually watch the lectures/do the problems. Lots of extra credit too. Do the work and you'll pass

Professor Hoffman gets a pretty bad rep from other students, but I honestly had a very pleasant experience with this class. He attaches his lecture notes to every lecture and they are fairly easy to just copy and paste into a word document to print for exams. You don't really need the textbook. Practice problems and lectures are your best friends!

I took FIN 300 over the summer in a b session. IT WAS HARD. So much content, so little time. But I liked the way Hoffman had the iCourse organized. He also was accessible by email which is nice. Finance isn't always easy, so if you need help he is there. Our grades were dependent on exams pretty much, so just really prioritize and study!
