Dr. Holmes, "Abnormal" class was perhaps the most interesting course I have taken at KU. Lectures are INTERESTING unlike 3/4 of professors (where your wondering how they recieved their Ph.D). Dr. Holmes is borderline famous, with his book reaching nearly a half million people. He also knew Timothy Leary (Yes the chemist whom invented LSD):)

absolutely need to read the book. Everything is in there. The examples/stories are crucial for the tests. Lecture did not help me at all. Skipped 50% of the time. He's very hard to listen to. DO NOT LEAVE OR STAND UP DURING CLASS, YOU WILL BE CALLED OUT IN FRONT OF 1000 PEOPLE. he fumbles with his mic a lot, and gets distracted.

Literally the worst teacher I've ever had. Super nice, but hard to understand! Test questions come straight from the book, that he wrote, and lectures are pointless to go to. If you're going to take psych, take it with a different teacher in a small class.. not budig 120 (1200+)

Dr. Holmes is by far one of the hardest professors I've ever had. His lec are long and boring, mostly pertaining to his own studys. He jumps around in the book a lot. His tests are really hard, INFORMATION OVERLOAD, 100-150 questions. Only 4 tests + final. This class isn't for a freshman. It's a 1100+ student class. He has his asst's do all the work

I think Dr. Holmes is a great teacher. He has a great background knowledge of what he is teaching. All you need are test files and read the book and you're good. Also, during his test if you have a question on one he will GIVE you the answer.

Dr. Holmes is a great teacher! He is funny and always has interesting stories to tell. My advice is to always sit near the front because often times he is super quiet. Overall, I would definitely recommend this class!

The reviews of Holmes are misleading. He is a great teacher without a doubt, who really knows his stuff. This is undeniable. HOWEVER, if you DONT have access to the test files (which most people don't!), this is a tough class. Make no mistake. You can study your butt off and not get an A. You need to know the definitions, and need to read the book.

Pretty solid profess, don't have to go to class at all as he follows the book EXACTLY. I went to the first class and that is it! He also let me make up a test because I had a difficult test on the same day. Very nice and understanding. Test are long, questions are poorly written, B's on exams are expectable with A's being within reach. Nice!

He is an old man set in his ways. Terrible opinions on psychology. Take everything he says with a grain of salt. I'm now a master student in Psychology and I can literally debunk half the claims he made during his lectures. Try to take this course with someone who isn't pompous.

Professor Holmes is my all-time favorite professor. He really is a master of his subject and captures the interest of all of the students. Tests are somewhat difficult, so make sure you know definitions and read the book (and look at test files). Always willing to help his students.

He wrote the whole textbook so I never showed up for class and still passed with a decent grade. He usually let us out of lectures early. You have to participate in psych studies, do them or you won't pass and will have to finish them the next semester. Without test files and reading the book I would not have passed this class.

one of the first classes I ever took here, and even tho I'd taken honors psych in hs (with an A grade) his teaching left me crying over his book for hours. scheduled tests on days right after holidays so I never could celebrate and scheduled the final for friday at 3 pm. I was the last to leave my dorm for the summer. test files saved my grade.
