Won't explain b.c you are beneath him. eye contact please when I ask a question
interesting course, could give more detail, exams don't compare to lectures
1st exam was so easy. I got perfect!
Very passionate about Physiology. He makes the class enjoyable and fun.
Amazing teacher in the sense of the word. The man is passionate about his stuff and he conveys material extremely well. There is no questioning his teaching abilities.

He is by far the BEST prof. @ York!! He explains the material really well so that you actually understand EVERYTHING! And he makes the lectures really interesting and fun!! Awesome Prof!
Very good at expaining concepts with great theatrical abilities. Tests/Exams quite fair.
he's an awesome prof. if i could have him for all of my classes i would
This is the kind of class that you get upset if you miss lecture because they are so intersting. Excellent teacher, very passionate and can be really funny and theatricle. Knows how to keep students awake and attentive.
great
Excellent prof!! Had him for phys I & II also. As long as you know his lectures well, you'll do good in the class (I got an A+). It's not easy, but if you put the effort in, it will definately pay off.
wonderful pro, passionate and caring. I love him and wish he would teach all my classes. study hard and it pays off with him. there are no tricks, just very detailed info
amazing professor. with his passion he actually sucks you into being interested in phys. a bit goofy but non the less entertaining. no tricks, easy A.
one of the best kinesiology prof's.
he is the best prof in the kinesiology department. mid-terms were easy for this course, though the final was a bit tough. a gr8 course and teacher nevertheless.
very good prof but the tests questions are very tricky.
One of the best kines profs by far... has the ability to make boring concepts entertaining and complicated concepts seem easier. Teaching style is comical (Charlie Chaplinesque) and helps illustrate material really well. Dr. Hood's tests are also pretty fair.. study the material and you will do fine...
He hates it when you ask questions. He is mean!!! His tests are IMPOSSIBLE, no matter how much you study!!!
Best prof ever. Made me love phys.
awesome teacher so funny
awesome prof, made me love phys! motivated, passionate and brilliant at what he does. Keep it up!
By far the best prof Ive had, he teachers exercise phys with a passion, hes very animated and funny and has a way of keeping everyones focus. renewed my passion for phys, recommend him highly!!
Conceited, very full of himself, he never gives students the time or day, his tests are very applied....stay away!
Very animated and uses humour to keep class interested.
Dr. Hood is an incredibly passionate prof. He has a good sense of humour and often makes a fool of himself in front of the class. His exams are relatively fair if you study the material. His final was definitely trickier though, probably because the class avg was too high after the 2 optional midterms. Labs are helpful and appropriate.
I really enjoyed his class. He has a way of making complex concepts very simple. Though I tried to ask him a question, and he closed his eye while he was answering it. I wasn't sure if he was being rude, thinking I am an idiot or what. I felt kinda bad after that. I ended with an A in the course.
Closes his eyes when he's deep in thought or reciting something he's said over and over again. But he's very passionate and one of the best profs I've had. I always get nervous when asking him questions though b/c he's always in a hurry to get away from you.
Exams are fair. Very enthusiastic about the content he teaches
Great professor. Knows his material well but also knows how to teach well. Conveys the information in a way where it makes sense but is also interesting. Favorite class so far.
By farrrr the best prof in kin I have had so far. Very passionate about the class. Loves the material he teaches. He has a fascinating research field that he talks about a lot. Makes hard concepts easy to understand. Tests are definitely fair. If you know the material you will destroy the exam. Cool labs. Amazing class.
He is a great prof! The best at York in my mind! I really hope to take the other courses he teaches!
Absolutely AMAZING professor! Very clear, speaks slowly- goes over crucial concepts twice to check for understanding. Great pace of the course. All exams are fair; want a good grade? Study! Ask questions in class, he values participation. By far the highlight of my university career. Labs are fun and applicable :)
FInally my turn to rate him. Just finished the course, got an A. He is one of the best prof around for sure. He really does make complicated concept easy for u to understand. I dont even know textbook, just listen to his class carefully, becos many material is not in the notes, which is fine, if u listen to him and write down notes.
My favorite prof at York. I've taken 2 courses with him and going for the third one next year. Absolutely love his lecturing. Don't be fooled by the easiness of 4010! His tests in advanced courses are much more challenging but material is worthwhile understanding especially for those pursuing MSc in physiology etc. Study EVERYTHING taught WELL!!
My favourite prof at York!! Exercise physiology was my fave class as well. He explains things well. Class is interesting and tests are fair. Labs are easy as long as you show up. taking good notes is important in this class and I would recommend recording lectures to listen later. He explains things so well that you will want to hear it again.
Going in to this class, I hated physiology! After Professor Hood, I enjoyed the subject and actually did well. He is very clear and descriptive. Uses everyday, real examples to make sure students understand. Also offers great opportunities in his lab for students. Labs are easy and his exams are very fair. Know the course kit!
Dr. Hood is the best teacher I've had. His course (Exercise Physiology) was structured very nicely and he presented the material with great enthusiasm. Highly recommend.
Best Prof I've had in 3 years at York.
Fav prof so far in my 3 years! makes the course so interesting! makes you wanna study for it, exam was fair, labs were fun! one of the best kine courses
I hated physiology and was not looking forward to 4020. but dr.hood made the course interesting. He explains everything really well and will go over things more than once if needed. His exams were fair, as long as you pay attention and take good notes you'll do fine.
one of the best professor at york univ. no doubt!! u will learn a lot of interesting stuff in his exercise physiology class.
Fantastic professor. VERY clear and concise and it doesn't hurt that the material is actually interesting. It is evident that he loves what he does, and that passion definitely shines through in his lectures. Funny guy, keeps you entertained. FAIR TESTS, you don't need the textbook the lecture notes will suffice.
Good Prof, very clear, but you have to study the concepts
Very easy A if you study. Great Prof, explains material very clearly, exams are not tricky at all.
Best professor I've had, makes the material fun to learn. Midterms are easy if you study the material. Final is tricky though.
Dr. Hood is a stand up guy. I can easily say he was one of the best profs I ever had the privilege of learning from. Extremely engaging lecturer and just a walking encyclopedia on exercise phys...I hated Phys I and II with a passion but the way he explains his material made me enjoy the related material CONSIDERABLY more. Tests are fair and aceable
He is definitely one of the profs i had so far! He explains everything great. His tests were easy and you really don't need the textbook. The course notes were nice and clear enough to get a good mark
I also hated phys 2 with blind passion but he made me love physiology again! he is def an amazing prof; study the notes, dont even bother with the text! its pretty useless
Dr. Hood is one of the best profs at York, he's funny, his teaching is crystal clear, his tests are fair. He made me enjoy physiology very much!
Best professor in York Kinesiology history. I'm shocked at how fun and intersting he made physiology after struggling with previous physiology courses. Does not screw students on tests at all, part of that is due to how great of a professor he is, which prepares us for tests. Some kine profs should attend his lectures and learn how to teach.
Amazing professor! You walk out understanding everything. Attendance is a must but it is worthwhile. He takes the effort to make the students understand. Gives practical real life explanations to describe mechanisms. Would highly recommend.
had him for both ex phys and mito. he is the best prof at york! make sure to memorize the graphs and figures for mito. its much harder than ex phys.
4010 has by far been one of my favourite classes taken at york! Dr. Hood is passionate about what he teaches and presents the concepts in a very clear way. It is a lot of information to learn, but if you study the tests are not bad at all-- he's definitely not out to trick you. -Great class and great prof. Go for it!!!
The course itself isn't easy however Dr. Hood explains difficult terms and concepts very clearly and prepares you for the tests well. The tests have a decent bit of application questions, so knowing everything is essential. Amazing prof!! I hated phys2 but Dr. Hood made me love phys again.
He looks static but extremely funny internally. He is extremely knowledgable and his lecture is so clear. All materials are closely related with real situations. His questions are solely coming from his lectures and his textbook. Try to understand the textbook based on what he said, then AA+ is definitely attainable.
Hes a very good lecturer, his tests are not that hard if you study for them. By far one of my favorite classes at York.
just a great lecturer, clear and concise. something you look for in every professor. tests are fair and content is interesting
Seems to love what he does. Enjoyable lectures.
He's funny
- Important points are easily identifiable during lecture due to repetition and tonal differentiation - Learned how to present information to others in an organized, engaging, and coherent manner - Information is incredibly interesting and valuable, whether in a clinical, research, or practical setting - He loves mitochondria, and loves teaching
he is amazing. loved his class
Best professor ever! Explains concepts with clarity and just the right amount of depth. There aren'tany surprises for the midterm/ final questions. everything is either in the course kit or has been mentioned in class. As long as you go to class and/or listen to lecture recordings and study the notes in detail, easy A/A+. Very interesting course.
Dr Hood is one of the best professors ever! He teaches the material so clearly, breaks everything up so students can easily digest the information. very funny professor, well respected, also cares about students success. If you fully UNDERESTAND the material you can do very well on his tests. Very fair on tests and exams.
great prof! loved the course!! He doesn't make the exams hard and he really wants you to do well!
He's a great teacher. Explains everything so clearly and makes tougher concepts easy to understand. The material was very interesting and applicable and he was always willing to answer questions. Tests are fair.
Material is presented clearly and his enthusiasm is great. You could tell he knows what he is talking about and loves his job. Tests are fair, an A is very attainable.
He is a great lecturer. It is a super interesting course. And he genuinely wants his students to succeed. He was upset when the average on a midterm was 72!
Hands down the best professor I have ever had. He is very knowledgable, knows his stuff, very approachable. ATTEND lectures and take note, I believe he records the lectures so listen to them for sure and you can get A-A+. Material is interesting but you need to put in some work.
Good professor but makes you work for it. Was warned to stay away from his lab as he doesn't let students graduate.
He's lively and takes his time explaining. Tests are straight forward and he doesnt try to trick you.
Great lecturer! The material he teaches isn't easy, but isn't difficult. He gives clear and concise explanations on the topics at hand and most importantly, stays on track.
Amazing professor. Probably my favourite Kinesiology course thus far.
Amazing professor. Explains the material very well! Has a clear understanding of material and can communicate very well with students. If you do work and study you can get an A.
Never a dull moment in his lectures. I truly enjoyed each and every one. His teaching style sprinkled in with his humor and jokes make them memorable. Not only that but he is clear, concise and to the point with his explanation of even the most complicated concepts. Tests are fair, final is definitely tougher. Keep up, study, ask questions.
Hood is a great prof but I don't recommend kine 4040 because of how it is marked. The average was so low for the class and everyone was complaining for how the TA marked the midterms. I have never received less than A in all my four years but I got B+ in this course.
This was one class I looked forward to every day. He made even difficult concepts seem super easy. He was willing to answer any questions. Would definitely take a class with him again. Do not overestimate yourself however, study thoroughly for the final to get an A+. Midterms were easy.
hood is a good dude, believe the hype
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOOWOWOW this guy is the definition of a professor. Actually cares for his students. York needs more professors and researchers like him. Hood if your reading this, you my boy.
The legend himself! Dr. Hood was a terrific professor and I would love to take a course with him again! No textbook required, makes difficult concepts short and sweet and makes sure you fall in love with Physiology. Fair midterms and exam!!!
Amazing professor! His teaching style is clear and informative. He tells you exactly what you need to know. He makes hard concepts easy to understand, and interesting. His midterms are fair. One of my favourite professors. Other profs, take notes!
Hood knows his stuff and is very passionate about physiology and teaching it. He explained all concepts very well and his tests were doable. But can come across as a bit arrogant.
Dr. Hood is extremely interesting and makes the lectures fun! The lectures were not boring at all and the labs are well developed. His tests are fair and have half multiple choice questions and half true and false. I liked this course much more than KINE3020.
One of the best profs Ive had in my 4 years here. Very clear at lecturing, has the best explanations. Talks clearly and with purpose. Made me love exercise physiology. One lecture was even recorded without audio on accident, and Dr. Hood went back and re-recorded the lecture on his own time. Phenomenal prof, handful of greatest
Dr. Hood is a fantastic prof. He really takes the time to explain concepts and teaches in a really understandable way. Graded on two midterms, a cumulative final, and labs. His midterms were pretty easy, and his final was more difficult. The tests are multiple choice and T/F, and quite tricky! An amazing guy, really cares about the students.
David Hood is a great professor. He is clear and articulate when speaking. The labs were fun and informative. The lectures were made available online in case of clarification on concepts.
Professor Hood is the man. This course is what all Kine students look forward to and combined with his lecturing style, I gotta say it was my favourite. Labs are interactive and fun, tests are easy are not difficult.
Awesome prof. Made sure we understood the material presented and if you were unsure and shy to ask in class, utilizing his office hours allowed him to take time to clarify and thoroughly explain any complex questions you might have. Definitely taking more courses with him in the near future!
Prof. Hood is HANDS DOWN the best teacher in the Kine program. 4010 is the most interesting and applicable phys course you'll take and David Hood does a great job in really making the lectures enjoyable and engaging for students to understand the content. Wish he taught other courses cause I would take take them in a heartbeat... pun intended lol.
Hands down worst prof. I think he has lost the stamina to teach students. I mean he is funny and all, he seems he really likes what he teaches but his tests are just too unclear at times. If to try to make him understand maybe this question was not fair he seems offended and makes it seem like it was all our faults for not listening in lecture.
WOW. Dr Hood is the definition of an awesome professor. He made me love Exercise Physiology after not liking Phys 1 or Phys 2. He explains things extremely well and he is extremely knowledgeable. The course is very interesting and is a course that every Kine student looks forward to. This was my favourite core KINE class all thanks to Dr Hood.
Really good prof, explains things clearly. Make sure you go to class because he draws a lot of stuff on the board that he tests on. never used the textbook. Midterms are easy but exam was stupid hard. all questions are application based, make sure you understand the material
Professor Hood is by far the best professor at YorkU. Like, he explains concepts as though he is teaching it to a non-university student. He doesn't rush anything either and his tests are extremely fair. I didn't attend lectures but would listen to them at home, as long as you make good notes. Didn't get an A because I deferred the final..!
Easily my favourite course in the entire KINE program. Dr Hood is such a a great teacher, he makes even those who hate physiology be interested in what he is teaching. The flow between lecture really helps to understand the materials, and the tests/exams are very representative of material taught in class.
Most organized course of my entire undergrad. You can tell Dr Hood enjoys what he is teaching, which makes him that much more passionate. The flow between lecture topics is incredibly easy to follow and it helps when it comes time to study. Take advantage and go to class because I found that it helped with learning more so than lecture recordings.
He is extremely uninterested in what he is teaching and sounds so annoyed. Also he talks at 500 words per second so I'm not even sure what is going on, then when you ask him a question he makes you feel stupid. I was so excited to take this class but now I'm so upset that he really does not care! I want to learn the material but he makes me hate it
He must have lost his passion for teaching or something because hes one of the rudest professors Ive ever had. Completely uninterested in any material and makes you feel stupid if you even try to ask a question. One of my favourite subjects so its very unfortunate that he ruined it for me. Doesnt care about his students learning at all.
Super unfair. In class he goes through the material with absolutely no interest. Even worse, he gives you under a minute for each question on the midterm and normally that would be fine; however, he puts difficult calculations that take time to calculate, so he could at least give more test time. The test questions are extremely hard!!
All you need are his lectures and they are recorded for you in the finest quality. His slides are top class, and he goes through them with you. He always reviews last class material before new stuff.
Great prof! Everything you need to know is in the lectures, and all of them are posted so you can watch whenever you want. Give yourself time to digest the material and you will do great
Professor Hood is an amazing professor. His lecture slides are mainly diagrams that may be difficult to understand at first, but he goes through them in great detail during lecture and makes it easy to understand and follow along. His lectures are recorded , however it is important not to fall behind in this class as it is very content heavy.
Horrible professor. Does not care at all about his students. Makes the exams extremely hard even when you studied everything possible. I feel defeated, I worked so hard but he just does not care. Don't ask him questions in class because he just makes you feel stupid. Need a better prof for this course!
Just Yes. must be one of the most respected profs at york and his passion comes out in his teaching.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. He's so rude and does not care about teaching students the material he just goes over topics without any care. I'm not sure why he teaches if he is just annoyed any time a student asks a question... I wanted to take this class and he ruined everything especially his exams were unrelated to the material.
I thought other reviews were exaggerating, but he really gets mad at students for asking questions. I have not spoken once in this class and I am too afraid to do so because of how I've seen him mock others for asking legitimate questions. He makes you pay for a course kit, which is just a printout of his slides. Doesn't record lectures.
Expects you to have prior knowledge. If you ask any questions which suggest you don't then expect to get called out. Rude to students that are not white. Entire lab is white grad students. You can piece it together.
Dr. Hood explains concepts well, however; he seems to get irritated when students ask questions about topics he has already taught. Many students did not do well on the second midterm. Regardless of how hard you studied and know the information, you can still get a low grade. The course is all exams and 10% lab. You can easily get a bad grade.
prof is great, however midterms are very hard, lecture contents are very heavy (took me 2 hours to finish a 45 minute ling lecture), labs not unnecessary. weighting of the exams is ridiculous. they should allow students to boost their grades, testing our memory is not the best predictor of our intelligence. we do DESERVE better grades
The class is easy, the questions are completely fair. Got perfect on both of the midterms. People saying the class is hard and unfair must be fried. Dr. Hood is a good prof, not superb, but not bad either. Content is ver interesting, as it involves exercise! Study the slides and take good notes and an A+ is easily achievable, not rocket science.
I really enjoyed his lectures. Pretty difficult but very interesting content. He explained concepts thoroughly & clearly. Tests were fair. However he's pretty intimidating so I never asked any questions. He didn't seem very happy to answer other students' questions so I didn't bother. That wasn't too much of a problem though
Dr. hood explains the concept good however hes very weird when student ask questions which makes no sense because ot everyone learns at the same pace. make sure to fully understand the concepts, make little connections to simplify pathways and you should do great. Focus on acing both the midterms and labs to buffer the final
He's an expert in his field. Great prof, funny and willing to teach things over and over until everyone understands. Lectures are heavy and tests are very detailed. Just know your stuff really well and memorize all the details.
Great course/prof 2 group presentations, 2 midterms, 1 final exam. Don't necessarily need to take the the prerequisite prior to achieve a good mark. Tests are little tricky
Professor Hood made me appreciate physiology. You can see his passion for the topic he is teaching and is researching about. His classes and tests are NOT easy since there is a lot of content, prepare to study! Everything you need to know for the tests are in the textbook. Learn the basics well, apply them, and connect the dots to get good grades.
Very nice guy and really cares about your success in his class
Misleading course! The title suggests physiology, but it shifts to mainly research methods after the first midterm. Exams focus on obscure research details, including names, not the physiological processes as the name would suggest. The textbook is poorly formatted, and key sections are skipped. Go in expecting research methods, not physiology.
Dr. Hood is an excellent lecturer with extensive expertise, and his engaging lectures make the course enjoyable. However, it requires significant effort to understand and connect the material. Though I don't often earn A's in core KINE courses, I did well in this one, which reflects his teaching. Don't be intimidated—hard work pays off!!!
Passionate professor who teaches hard stuff clearly and will repeat stuff so you understand, lectures are dense with material and he sometimes puts stuff he briefly talks about on some tests, an achievable A+ if you put in effort. I recommend recording the lectures to remember stuff as he does not do it for you (but lets you record if you want).
He's the Best Kine Prof at York; The Way he teaches Made me Focus more during his Lectures. Ended the Course With 88%.
