David is very helpful and dedicated and brings a lot of his own interesting real-world experience to the class. This class is great for the short attention span set -a smorgasborg of fun Mac graphics apps!
Go to to class, watch what he does, then do it, then there's an in-class assignment. No need to answer any questions, you can just sit there. He is very clear & answers all your questions. He's good about helping you if you are confused. He's just not that enthusiastic & class can be kind of slow. There was no hw, only take home quizzes & projects.
David is very helpful and clear, yet lacks enthusiasm and class gets boring over time.
Chill, clean, clear. His class is easy. His class may be slow for others b/c he's trying to make the knowledge easily understood from a simple basis. Provides outside sources similar to programs used in class if unable to buy the software. Jump in&be creative! (Unfortunately, sometimes you have to limit yourself if things you ask seem TOO advanced)
He is very helpful. Go to class regularly and you will learn a lot. Easy to get A, if you do all of the assignments and labs.
He is very into this subject and I being a MUCH Older Computer dork wasn't BUT his Help was always there and HE never made me feel any ? was wrong I think he is a very good teacher. Moves a bit fast but he wants U too get as much info as U can in allowed time.Always available in his office and reminds U over and over of that.would take again
Excellent teacher. Very knowledgeable and very patient to assist each student when individual needs help.
I have taken at least 3 classes with Dave Hurwich, and he is clear and helpful ALWAYS. His enthusiasm for design and for his subjects is absolutely contagious. He is always up on the lastest tech wrinkles and trends - and no doubt I will be taking his classes again as the tech world speeds up!
He is helpful and provides information which is not only in the book but also in outside source, including latest information. Also, he's friendly and outgoing with students. His teaching is very effective as he gives students exercises after he explains the information. By doing so, it makes you remember the information better.
David makes these complex adobe programs seem simple and intuitive after his lectures and step by step tutorials. I find it very useful when he talks about the history of comuters, the web and programs because it helps me understand how computers and networks function now. He is master of his subject and encourages a variety of questions.
Not a bad introduction class for Adobe programs. Hurwich knows what he's talking about. Relaxed teacher style and for me, it works. I'd recommend taking his class, definitely
I loved professor Hurwich. He has immense knowledge in his field. There wasn't a single problem he couldn't solve without giving an explanation for it. Very respectful of students comments and situations. Extremely patient! However, you do not want to miss his class labs or any major project because each project is needed for the next. Take him!
David is very organized, teaches at the right pace, knows his teaching materials well, teaching style is easy to follow, helpful and quick to answer questions. Course reader is a good pick. Quizzes and exam are fair. I highly recommend others who are interested in working on graphic related projects to take GRPH 25 with David Hurwich.
He is great. I learned a lot this semester from him.
He's cool, can teach and is just a cool guy.
One of the best teachers I' ve ever had. Very organized, good sense of humor, very helpful.
David has an in depth knowledge of his subject. He is organized. His class material is presented and repeated through providing additional resources. It is easy to seek additional assistance from him when needed. An asset to any college, university and students
Best graphic design class ever. Before I took his class, I never thought that I would able to make an animation, have my own web site and ... Best teacher ever
I was a beginner, beginner and at times I struggled but David was very patient in explaining any questions I had and his assistant was also very helpful and nice. I would definitely recommend him as a professor!
I plan on taking more computer graphic classes at ccsf. I am looking forward to having david hurwich as an instructor again.
really cool teacher. If you follow his instruction, you can get a good grade. But quizzes are somewhat hard.
David's class was very helpful! I've learned so much in 6 weeks. Class was for 4,5 hours but wasn't boring at all. Pay attention on his lectures and keep your attendance clear.
Great teacher! The pace is fast and the information is extremely useful. He's quite knowledgeable in the field and teaches it very well. I learned a lot.
Take his classes and you will learn a lot. Great and helpful professor in city college!
David is a knowledgeable instructor. Going into the course, I expected to learn how to use basic tools. David goes beyond by explaining fundamental concepts, their significance, history, and context.
When taking this class, you will need to put some time and effort while you work on the assignments. I enjoyed the class very much.
Great guy.
great class, David does a great job teaching the material. and he is very understanding and helpful when you run into an issue.
Highly recommended! He has considerable experience, skill, and knowledge in a digital world that helps students to explore and learn the techniques efficiently through the lecture & hands-on practice with great fun. Worry-Free, he is very helpful. You just do your part -- attend Hurwich’s class regularly and do all the works on time.
I took this class twice so I have two different perspectives. By far what separates him is his personal labs, class blog, and his website that coincides with the material from the text. He sets you on the path for you to self teach yourself, he is awesome and has a mastery of the subject matter. Great communicator always available to helpflexible
David is a great teacher with a laid back attitude. He has a good sense to help when needed, even if help isn't asked for! Through taking this class I've gotten spikes of motivation and tools I can use for when I start my career
David’s an extremely efficient, organized, and capable teacher. Most notable about his teaching style are his use of analogies to explain complex and abstract topics to make them easier to understand and grasp. He's an overall high quality instructor and you will definitely learn a lot in his class.
Dave is a great teacher - approachable, knowledgeable, experienced, well-educated, is involved in the industry himself, and he keeps the class interesting and light-hearted. He cares about his students' development and he has an obvious passion for what he's teaching. He tries with varying success to lead all students in class discussion.
Learned a lot from this professor. Very efficient, patient and laid back. Very informative which made the class easier to pass.
I rate David on the side of easy simply because he makes it easy for you to learn the core concepts that help you earn a good grade. Given a choice, I'd definitely take another class taught by David.
I thought that David's style of teaching was both personable and professional. He reiterated concepts and was able to give different examples until everyone understood. The class environment was fun, but he also did a great job of keeping everyone focused and on task. He's relatively patient and super mellow without droning.
I highly recommend Mr. David Hurwich as a school professor in the Visual Arts field to students and/or to any institution he may be interested to teach at, because besides of having a deep knowledge in the subject, he is very patient and reliable to answer any question a student may have in the subject, without any kind of judgment.
David Hurwich is a very well organized and knowledgable teacher. His lectures are nicely prepared and easy to follow along with. He is very attentive to his students and very helpful. One of the best teachers I have had at Ex'pression college so far.
David is a good teacher. I was not let down, but i was never pushed to do more then what I could achieve. Its a solid experience that left me knowing more then what I walked in with.
David Hurwich is an awesome teacher. He comes prepared to class with these example and practice files to help visually learn how to make websites. He gives good feedback. He helps you debug errors. He is an awesome teacher!
David is a very good teaacher, very clear and very helpful during the class. He is very comitted to his job
Absolutely amazing teacher. Makes subject very understandable and always there to help you. Wish he taught every design course!
Great professor who always takes the time to explain the concepts to his students. VMD 105 is a very good class with lots of interesting and fun projects to work on using Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash etc...
Excellent instructor! His lectures are very thorough and easy to understand. He always makes time to answer any questions and provides helpful feedback. He's very organized, up-to-date, and obviously passionate about his field. I highly recommend taking his class :)
Young professor - former artist and web designer - keeps the class relevant, on topic, lots of examples. Teaches lots of short cuts and quick keys. Good survey of Adobe programs, and htmlcss, keeps it simple so students don't get lost. Format of class is good, lecture, practice, longer labs to practice and turn in. Tests were longer than expected.
I am glad I learned the basics of the Creative Suite through David Hurwich. His teaching style is very laid-back, easy-going, and gives us assignmentsprojects that are very applicable and enjoyable! He is very attentive and always ready to help out. I would take another course taught by him if I could.
Hurwich is a chill guy in the classroom. he uploads exercises to the server prior to class, then goes through each one. he is always there for you. There is a small creative project at the end of each section (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, HTML) that help build toward the final project. EVERYTHING IS HELPFUL.
Mr. Hurwich is extremely methodical while providing clear and concise lecture for his students. At the same time, he doesn't overwhelm students with information. But above all, he is always there for his students and makes sure the subject matter is understood. I would take his class again in a heartbeat.
One of the best instructors that teaches hand coding html and css. Super knowledgeable about contemporary web design trends. All assignments and projects are helpful. Good lectures, assignments, and individual instruction. A damn great teacher for web design.
Chill teacher. Lectures and labs are informative. He will clarify things if you ask. His lectures are to the point and he doesnt digress.
Hurwich is great! I took his class when he first came to the UCDavis. As long as you follow him during the lecture, it is easy to do the homework and the project.
Professor Hurwich is an excellent teacher, very dedicated and most fair in grading. His lectures are meticulous and most interesting. He is very patience and understanding with students' willingness to learn. There should be more professors like him. I took two courses from him at City College of San Francisco and will take again any other course.
He's a fun teacher and very helpful. He really goes out of his way to help his students.
good teacher and helpful. I got really into the class. take him and you will never regret.
David Harwich is the best VMD professor in city college!! Very handsome guy, and I want to be his TA next semester. He is so helpful and willing to answer your questions with patience.
Great intro to Adobe Creative Suite, would highly recommend to anyone interested in the graphic design field.
Great teacher: very calm yet passionate when asked about the class subject; easy to interact with; very clear in his explanations, even for me, a "technology" challenged student :)
David is an awesome professor. You can tell how passionate he is about this field and it translates into his teaching. He's also pretty funny and tries to keep people engaged. He is also very helpful when you have questions; I am pretty shy so I don't like to ask so he sometimes sees I'm struggling on certain projects and would just help.
Professor Hurwich's classes are engaging. He is very knowledgeable in his field, and he's always in the best disposition to help us.
I enjoyed taking this class. David was very helpful with any any and all questions I may have had. he responded to all of my emails quickly and efficiently.
Love this class!! Learned so much! David taught me so much about html and css! 5 out of 5 for this class!
He's awesome, he really knows his stuff, I would totally take another class just because he was teaching it.
David is easygoing. He stays on topic in his lectures and is very clear, responding appropriately to the questions he receives. His assignments are clear, they directly relate to what you're learning, and if you choose, you can use them as an opportunity to create portfolio pieces (more work than is required to pass, but worth it).
David is very easygoing. His lecture is fast-paced, but very helpful. He gives really great feedbacks for every project, which helped me build my portfolio through the quarter. Will take his class again!
He is a great teacher. He is able to teach the basics well while keeping it interesting and relevant. He keeps the class onboard when he moves to more complex subjects. He is extremely willing to answer even the most simple questions without making you feel stupid. Would take classes he is teaching!
This class cover a lot of Adobe tools in one semester. I am unable to remember all, even taking class notes. Possible solution: -The class should break into 2 classes. -Teacher should upload notes that is searchable for topic keyword, so student don't need to memorize too much.
Great teacher who is always willing to help. He gives us plenty of time to work on assignments and gives written feedback. Awesome!!
I took his VMD 105 in Fall 2015. He is so nice and helpful.
Teacher knew material and was good at explaining things. Made it real easy to understand
David is very relaxed in style. His approach is that the student will reap the benefits of the class based on the effort they put into it. He is really helpful in answering questions. I would definitely take another class from him again.
class is very informative if you are looking for a basic grasp of the adobe suite. I learned a lot in this class and it prepared me well for the next level of classes i will be taking. We have to do lots of labs and assignments but they are fun and ample time lab time is given to complete them. 10/10 would take again.
easy and relaxing class, learn many basic skill from adobe softwares, great class
David Hurwich is very organized and his lectures make the content very approachable. He is very helpful and never hesitates to answer my many questions. He is great at communicating and is quick to return emails. Overall, this intro course to digital media with David has been extremely beneficial and I believe I will leave with the tools I need.
The class lectures are presented in a manner that are very easy to understand. In between each section, there is time for questions and discussions incase anything is unclear for anyone. This course made Adobe Ai,Ps,Id, and An(Flash) very approachable, wether learning for the first time or expanding on certain features you wouldn't normally use.
Great teacher!
I took DES117 and DES16 with him at UC Davis. Awesome prof. Very chill but I learn a lot from him at the same time. I never write feedbacks but I just have to for this guy. Take him if you can. He's very knowledgable and will always help you with anything you need.
Mr. Hurwich was a really great teacher. His lectures are good and he is very patient with helping students and always is willing to answer questions. He is a very passionate about his subject matter given he is a professional graphic designer.
easy grader, lectures in every first 1or2hr class and then give out lab for students
Good teacher, chill guy.
Hurwich is a funny teacher and taught us how to use web design for other related professions. He is passionate at teaching and always gives examples that are easy to understand. Participation is a must, but he goes over class exercises with the class beforehand. Group projects are important and he helps you with them in office hours. Great guy!
I really learned a lot from Professor Hurwich. He is very passionate about the subject and you can tell when he lecturers and demos. He always helped answer my questions when I got confused.
I really liked him. He also writes responses to emails quickly and is quick to help students when they have issues with labs and such.
I really learned a lot with Mr. Hurwich. I had no real knowledge of web development, but felt I learned a lot from him about HTML and CSS. He is good about talking with you individually if you have questions and has teaching assistants that hold office hours as well.
Teacher was really nice and very helpful. He has lecturer and labs to work on in class. He walks around and helps people if they have questions or needs more clarification. He is super nice and very patient person.
Really cool guy. You can tell he is very passionate about the subject and really tries. He is very good about responding to email and questions outside of class as well as giving advice. Nice guy, I would want to take him again if he teaches another class I am interested in.
Attendance is counted each class, but I think that's fair. Really pay attention the class, really learn things. Not hard at all, as long as you do the works.
Professor Hurwich is very patient to his students, he tried to answer each question that asked. His contents are useful for people who wants to take entrance class for visual media design. Contents are easy to understand unless you are not paying attention in his class.
David is a really chill teacher. Recommend him for Graph25. He breaks down complicated topics so beginners to computer programming can understand. If u want someone who's up to date and if u r interested working in this field, recommend taking this class.
This was a great intro class to visual design. David is a great teacher; he lectures and then gives you time to try what he is teaching. He did office hours after every class which was really extra of him. He is also extra in his jokes, but its okay because it keeps the class interesting.
Professor Hurwich is a great teacher. I took a class which was basically a primer for people who want to end up doing some sort of design work. He touched upon Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, HTML and even some animation. All in one semester. He was great at explaining everything and even made it fun. I wish he was teaching all my design classes.
Professor Hurwich is very friendly, funny and helpful. The assignments in the class are challenged, but he will help you learning how to do all the assignments. At a bonus, he will also teach beginning HTML and CSS as a bonus. I hope he would actually also teach HTML and CSS at CCSF. I will definitely take another class offer by him again.
David was a really fun teacher. The best praise I can give is that I was excited to attend a 9am class, and I really wish I could take him again. The class is dense, but rewarding. David presents the material clearly, had office hours, lab hours, and made genuine efforts to encourage students. He's also a funny guy and has good taste in animation!
David is such a nice teacher, always helpful and patient. he put his enthusiasm and passion on teaching. i loved the Web Production 1 class. highly recommended.
I've really liked Mr. Hurwich so far. He gives good lectures and always gives copies of his slides. He's very patient with students which helps since I ask a bunch of questions
Great Teacher, Learned a great amount of Web Production and he's great to talk to after class, would take again, he's really cool and took a lot away to web design myself in the future.
Very engaged and overall just a very good professor to have if you have any aspirations to work in graphic design.
I took a summer class with Professor Hurwich in which he taught 4 months worth of a wide array of materials into a 6 week crash course. It was probably the most demanding class I've ever taken because of the amount of entirely new material taught, but he was very clear with his lectures and available to help out. I learned so much from him!
Although the course I took with Mr Hurwich was a very fast-paced one (almost boot camp style), I really enjoyed it and learn a lot. He was very solicitous and made sure everyone had their chance to ask questions or to clarify their doubts. I very much recommend taking visual design classes with him.
Students will learn a lot from Mr. Hurwich. He knows his stuff. Show up to class, do the work, and ask questions at every opportunity.
I took VMD 105 in the summer. It was very challenging.
I'm enjoyed his class so far. He's good about being patient and answering student questions.
He knows his craft very well and is a patient teacher. Even though I probably annoyed him with 1000 questions, he answered them all and made sure I understood the material. He's available outside of class often and gives good feedback. If you want to learn a lot and get the A, you should take him!
Mr. Hurwich is an excellent teacher. We covered a lot of ground in a short space of time, but it never felt overwhelming. He explained each topic clearly, and was happy to answer all questions. I always looked forward to class.
I had prof Hurwich for VMD 105 and learned a ton. I was so impressed with the way the class was designed because we covered so many different programs and walked away with a website portfolio displaying our work. This is a professor who cares about his students future careers and wants to help them achieve their goals. Get ready to work!
He'll tell you exactly what you're going to learn-then deliver the skills & tools necessary to launch you into working autonomously on your assignments. If you are like me (a little slow on the uptake with tech) the lectures, web pages and manual are enough to guide you when you are working on your own. Wish I had more prof's who were so thorough!
Here's the layout for VMD 105: lectures, labs, quizzes, projects and 2 exams. David is personable, knows his stuff and passionate all around. Another great thing about him is that he cares about his students - he's always sharing stuff to help us out, and always keeps us in the know of college events. I enjoyed his teaching style & character.
David is pretty good at what he does, I personally felt like there could be more feedback but overall his lectures are incredible. A little fast pace, so you must come to class!!
His 105 class is a great introductory class for those new to using Adobe apps. Not just that, but it's also a great course for those looking to brush up on old skills. Hurwich is concise in the way he teaches and that's one quality I truly appreciated. He's also nonrestrictive and lets the advanced students explore while learning.
Prof. Hurwich deserves the highest marks! I took his survey class of the Adobe creative suite programs (photoshop, illustrator, indesign, animate, html); it was challenging. There was a lot of information that went at a pretty fast pace. Luckily, Prof. Hurwich was organized, had great lectures, and was always available . I give him definitely an A.
VMD 105 is designed to give students a lot of information in a short amount of time. A lot of information gets passed along and absorbed in this class. David Hurwich is laid back and fun to learn with. He's easy to talk to. He's very helpful and knowledgable. He's a great ambassador for the VMD program offered at CCSF and he's a ton of fun!
Mr. Hurwich is a laid back but very informative teacher. He taught the class by showing us how to do the tasks required and then giving us exercises to try and follow him. He would then answer any questions that people had so everyone could keep up; he also had office hours every week. I learned a lot in the class without every feeling overwhelmed.
Covered a little bit of everything in a short amount of time. Assignments and quizzes are organized. He uses good analogies to explain things. I would take him again.
Straightforward and easy class. Every week just watch about 2 hours worth of lectures videos and work on class drills. Theres a discussion board where you just post 2-3 sentences abt what you learned and one longer assignment where you put the skills you learned to work. All classes were asynchronous. Easy A if you turn in your work on time.
Mr. Hurwich is very good at explaining each tool in the program, as well as all the concepts behind each topic. He explains what doesn't work and why, and what would work and why. It's very detailed and you can then apply the learning through different labs. It's a great class.
Mr Hurwich has gone out of his way during the pandemic to create and post very detailed lectures and not just recycle videos. He uses many different methods (lecture, reading, hands-on, etc) of teaching. If you are a note-taker, get ready to write a lot! You can always reach out to him for questions and get answers or feedback quickly.
I'm very bad when it comes to dealing with computer skills. I previously took computer skills classes at CCSF but ended up dropping them because I always hit a brick wall when we got to the HTML portion of the class. It was still very difficult for me but I was none-the-less finally able to grasp, understand and work with HTML. A minor miracle!
Took an online course comp sci / digital media class with him at Chabot College and he was a pretty good teacher. Always posted videos to help students who were stuck. Only thing I didn't like was he doesn't post your class grade until the end of the year, so even if you do good on assignments, you're still wondering what your final grade will be.
He's a very great instructor with great teaching skills and provides good feedback about your work and some suggestions that can make them better.
Good professor, I like his teaching style
I liked Mr. Hurwich, he is passionate about the subject of graphic design. Always answered my questions and holds office hours, which is always nice!
