This guy is one of the best profs I'ver ever had. He is so funny and interesting. He is very polite to students and very interested in what everybody has to say. If you can take his class, I would hands down. I learned so much, not just about the subject, but about life as well. His lectures are thought provoking and interesting. Love the tie.

I am in love with the teachings of this man! He is by far the best English professor that I've ever had. He is interesting and so inspiring that he makes 50 minutes fly by and makes me wish that I had his class everyday-all day. He has so much knowledge and really inspires great conversation. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN, AS MANY TIMES AS YOU CAN!

Just a few things about this prof: 1. unlimited rewrites, yes. However, only two papers are due before (TG) break and those are the only two you will have the option of rewriting. 2. He's very critical of your writing and hard to please 3. I would not suggest dual enrolling in his classes (eng 225 & 226) during the same semester- it's overwhelming

While he is an amazing professor who gets one thinking in class, he is a very difficult paper grader which is tough, since there are only three papers in the class; however, I do like his teaching style. He is always very energetic and listens and expands on students ideas. I reccomend his class if you're willing to do the work. Amazing professor.

If you don't have a strong background in literature DO NOT TAKE, he expects you to teach yourself...didn't teach me one thing the whole semester. Allows rewrites on papers but gave me the exact same grade on both after spending a ton of time doing them. i recommend a different prof!

Great professor. Always enthusiastic and willing to help out his students. He is a tough paper grader though, but if you work hard you will be fine. If you have any questions about papers talk to him because he will tell you what you did wrong and where to improve. I highly recommend taking him. He is great at what he does.

Everyone is so enthusiastic about this professor but I really didnt like his teaching styles at all! He is a nice guy and all but he doesn't teach you much, but expects students to basically teach each other, which is not the point of college. You take classes so your professors can guide you. He did guiding of his students.Hard grader too. Horrible

He's a very enthusiastic professor and the class is entertaining and very enjoyable, but he is an EXTREMELY tough grader. He's never happy with your papers and you get very few opportunities for grades. You are allowed re-writes, but expect to spend many hours writing with poor results. If you can take his class credit, no credit, do so.

Dr. Ihrman is a great prof! He doesn't expect you to teach yourself. He wants you to think deeply about literature and not expect him to feed you insight. He's a hard grader because he wants you to think about the lit and make arguments with textual support. Go beyond class diss. in your paper and write without 'filler fluff' to get pg length.

His bowtie is fantastic, but he rarely wears it, so don't be fooled. He's an amusing guy at times, but there aren't many opportunities for points so your grade rests on a few key papers. Tough grader, can be overwhelming, but he isn't terrible. Just make sure you do your reading and the class should be manageable.

Overall, I was impressed with this professor. He does have a tendency to grade papers rather harshly, but students have opportunities to make revisions. He is very enthusiastic and animated. Therefore, I found his class to be entertaining at times. Overall,Professor Ihrman is a great guy and is always willing to help students.

Absolutely wonderful professor. Witty, intelligent, interesting and just a tiny bit eccentric, he's able to keep the interest level in the class high, and he's extremely approachable outside and inside class with questions and ideas. Take this man for whatever class you can, and learn how great Moby Dick is.

He's kind a cartoon character come to life. On one hand, he loves literature and can facilitate college-level discussion. On the other hand, he's almost TOO quirky that it becomes distracting or tiresome. Do not take if you are a poor writer or feel inexperienced analyzing texts. All in all he's okay but I wouldn't take him again.

I really liked Dr. Ihrman for the most part. He's nice, funny, easygoing, and helpful. Classes are a little bit of lecture and a lot of group discussion. The only criticism I have is that he was unclear sometimes about what he wanted us to discuss in our groups and I feel that we didn't thoroughly discuss a decent amount of the literature.

Interesting class. I enjoyed the texts we read and discussed. Grades are based on a few papers so you have to make sure you do well on all of them. Running an idea by him is no problem. He can be a bit odd sometimes but in a funny way. Knows what he's talking about. One of my harder English classes here so far.

This professor enjoyed making instructions and class discussions unclear for the students. It was difficult to know how to succeed in his class because he did not explain expectations or requirements. It never felt like we accomplished or learned anything with class discussions. Overall I thought the class was very discouraging.

While Professor Irhman was very confusing and unclear with his assignments, I liked him as a person. His lack to communicate well turned out to be funny but also was very annoying at times. He assigns a lot of readings but if you don't read it on time, it's not a big deal. If you go to his office hours, he is a lot more helpful.

Despite not using Blackboard, one can pretty assess what is their grade in the class based on one's grades from the papers we have to write. I appreciate and respect Dr. Ihrman, a lot. I think he is an outstanding professor who is passionate about literature and has us all asking the deeper question, "Why does this matter?" I recommend him!

I would not recommend Professor Ihrman. If you want to succeed and feel good about your papers you turn in, do not take him. Although he does let you rewrite 2 out of the 3 papers, it honestly does not help and he does not take into consideration the time and effort put into his class. His final exam is impossible & expects you to know it all.

Great prof! Lots of reading and his lectures aren't the clearest, but they are interesting and can go off on tangents. There's two longer papers and one shorter one, and he allows rewrites on the first two. If you're a strong writer, you'll be fine, and besides he's always available for help. Beware though, his final exam sucks.

Professor Ihrman is fantastic. He is extensive in his knowledge, and teaches with a rare passion. He is not a challenging grader, if one is willing to work hard on their papers. He assigns three papers, two 7-9, and one 4-5. On the 4-5 meet the requirement but do it well. With the 7-9 go big. I did 12 & 14 pg papers and I received perfect scores.
