His class is challenging (I suggest tutoring and not waiting to the last minute to study) but he's a very fun professor to have. He has a great sense of humor and incorporates it in his lectures to keep his things interesting. I highly suggest taking this class!
Pretty hard although hes a funny guy and cracks jokes alot His tests suck, he says they're like the homework but in reality theyre much harder. I suggest tutoring, going to every class and visiting him in his office hours to get clearer explanations
He is very funny, which makes the class bearable. His tests are hard but he will offer amazing grade boosts if people do bad on them. You will definitely pass if you give any effort, but you may not learn anything at all in the process.
He a pretty cool guy and likes to crack jokes often. Although he has a likeable personality, his lectures do not help with any of the homework. Exams are extremely HARD and long!! I definitely recommend tutoring!! He offers grade boosts and extra credit which help your grade a lot. He does not curve anything!
The Professor is not good at teaching, however his exams are based on the homework which is very fair. The textbook is readable and relevant to the assigned homework and exams. Don't be lazy; read the book before attempting the homework. You cannot pass the class by only attending lectures because the instruction is often incomprehensible.
This guy is way smarter than you...but if you read the chapter and actually prepare for class you might just keep up. If you can't, he will help you. There was a ton of material covered in his class, it was not easy but was VERY beneficial. If you don't read your books, do not take this class, he will leave you in the dust.
Wasted my time in class learning about NOTHING!! He just keeps lecturing without thoroughly explaining the concepts. The book is useless other then for formulas. If you can teach yourself, take this class...otherwise...AVOID.
If you take this class, get the recommended text - he lectures straight from it. Be prepared to read both that and the regular textbook. Class is hard. He is very intelligent and funny, but moves quickly. Prepare for class, do the homework, and ask questions in class and you'll be fine. Tests are based on homework and you can have a cheatsheet.
I would take another teacher if possible... If not be prepared to teach yourself EVERYTHING! This guy is funny and clearly very smart, but horrible at teaching. He puts very little effort into his class and his students. His lectures are very confusing and hard to follow.
I found Prof. Moore to be an excellent teacher. The material isn't easy, but he is more than willing to help if you show the the effort.
Lectures are not well thought out and have nothing in common with homework or exams. He is a smart guy but he does not know how to teach. He goes off on many random tangents and does not keep his political ideas to himself. He lectures to a select few in the class and has no regard for the class as a whole understanding the material.
He is an all right professor although you will probably hate him at many points throughout the semester. He is certainly more chalenging since he teaches the same exact material to mba classes and undergrads. Take him if you know youre good in finance and make sure to get the books because they are what will teach you more than him.
The subject is not easy. Moore is a very smart guy, and I found that if you actually study and care, his style of teach is very useful. He is very passionate about the subject, and expects a lot from his students.
Mr. Moore is a good teacher. Really funny and interesting. Willing to help outside of class. Finance is not an easy subject, so you do need to study. the only downfall is having to buy the same exact financial calculator he uses in order to keep up.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! Some of these reviews are HIM. Requires an MBA level text so he only has to have 1 lesson plan (MBA220&FIN101), and doesn't teach. If you have to take him, google the HW Q's and use that to review for the exams. The text he uses is MBA level and not for intro Finance. Don't but his "book". Its useless too. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!
Horrible teacher! Doesn't teach well. I got an A- in his class but I went through hell to get it.
Dr. Moore is a very smart guy and knows the subject well. He doesn't have many years of teaching, so it may be hard to follow but he wants his students to ask questions to clarify if needed. Topics learned in class are very practical and are used in professional finance regularily.
Do not take him if you've never taken a finance course!! He is not helpful and mostly makes you learn the material by yourself!! He comes unprepared at times and you can tell. He's so random
This is a self-taught class. Be prepared to mentor yourself or seek a dedicated tutor. Professor is funny, but he does not know how to teach. Very random and goes off topic regularly. Do not take him!
If you are not prepared to teach yourself then do not take this class. Prof was really funny and super smart guy but he treated the lectures as more of an open office Q/A forum. I ended up getting As on all his exams but I bombed the final which apparently he didn't write so I got a C in the class, oh well. I learned best off the graded homework.
AWFUL TEACHER. Do not take this class if you want to pass. He puts so much weight on your 2 exams that it's impossible to get by. He doesn't teach and goes off on too many tangents. Be prepared for hell.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR! Side jokes & comments are very distracting. You will be confused 95% of the time if you have no finance background. Expects you to know the material before coming to class; you will teach yourself everything b/c his lectures are really reviews. By far the worst at CSUS. I'm an A & B student and his class was impossible.
Only thing I got from this class was a useless $100 calculator. Teacher does not teach and instead assumes you were born knowing the material. He's a good guy but one of the worst instructors I've ever had. I cant even use the word "teacher" to describe him. He actually told the class he tries to get low scores on this website.
What to say.. If you study and do the homework assignment you will definitly pass. This class was pretty tough considering 90% of the final grade accounts for the two tests. The class is actually very fun and I looked forward to every class session. Take this class and you will learn a lot, as well as have some laughs during the lectures.
WORST TEACHER!!!He is a terrible teacher. He expects that you know everything about finance and skims through everything. He wrote his own book for the class that does not help or explain anything. I had to drop because I had to miss class for an emergency even though "emergencies" are considered excused with proof which I had. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!
class is hard no doubt, but you will learn about finance. IF! you study and understand how to do his homework, you'll pass with an A or B. He's in there during office hours if you need help.
Nice guy with sense of humor but overall not a good teacher.I would not recommend taking this teacher. I have to retake finance this semester because I did not pass. Goes off on tangents during lectures and exams are tough consisted of 3 exams at 30% each and hmwk 10%. He lets you use a cheat sheet on the exams but other than that he is confusing.
He's a tough professor, probably one of the more frustrating classes I had. But I learned a lot. The exams are identical to the homework, so work slowly through that and you will do fine. Learn your calculator, it's the best asset you will have. Really not as bad as everyone makes it seem.
Nice guy, but very horrible Professor. Pretty much like a online class, his lectures are pointless and would you leave wondering what did he just say. If you can teach your self finance then go for it because he is no help whatsoever. He really is not passionate about teaching and DOES NOT CARE, which makes the course not interesting or exciting.
Funny guy, but that is the only good thing I can say about his class. USELESS lectures where he goes off on tangents about content in his poorly written book and criticizes students for wanting to "just get by". Brutal/infuriating class with a LOT of content. Don't go to his lectures; know how to do the homework and you MIGHT just get by. AVOID!!!
Contrary to what other people have said, he is one of the most resourceful teachers I've met. He has his own website that contains a plethora of information and he occasionally invites students for a chance to attend business events. Four words to abide by in order to succeed in this class: DO HOMEWORK, UNDERSTAND HOMEWORK. Simple as that.
This was my FIRST C in college! I am not a bad student and I take my work seriously. this class was an absolute nightmare!!! Dr. Moore is alright, but he can't teach to save his life. The book helps, but you honestly have to teach yourself everything! AVOID him at all costs! Big Time disappointment!
The first half of the semester turned out better than I expected based on the reviews I had read on here. We went over lots of examples and I felt like I was learning something. After the midterm however, everything went down hill. I would avoid this class if you want to learn finance. I got a great grade in this class but I had to teach myself
What others have said- he's passionate about the subject but teaches it assuming you already know everything. All I got out of it was equations I didn't know the meaning of with symbols that meant nothing to me, along with him reminding us how smart he is. Would have been better off studying on my own, except he took attendance.
This is a difficult class, but these comments are wrong. Moore provides so much study material and goes over anything that you would like him to go over, in class-just ask. It's not his fault that finance is a difficult subject! If you study and pay attention, you will pass. Great teacher and his passion for the subject is inspiring.
Here's what I've learned so far in this class... The risk of being insulted or put down by the professor is not worth the reward of receiving a rude or demeaning answer. Most teachers appreciate a student trying to learn, this one just wants to prove how cool enlightened he is.
His class was very challenging because there is a lot of material. I am a finance major, and I learned so much in his class that the finance classes that I'm taking now seem easy, because I am already familiar with the material. He uses real-world examples that really put the material into perspective, and he always makes time outside of class.
Dr. Moore is misunderstood honestly. He is probably the most helpful professor I have had at Sac State and has even helped me with other finance classes, even semesters after taking his class. His class is very difficult for a beginning finance course but will set you up very well for the later classes if you are a finance major. Do the HW!
So I knew what I was getting into before I took the class. He's pretty tough, but go to his lectures and they're kind of fun. Definitely read the book, cause you won't pass without reading it. Go to his office hours and ask as many questions as possible. Other than that most of the subject matter starts to make sense after 4 tries.
Dr. Moore was an amazing instructor who loves finance and ACTUALLY teaches you about the subject. I highly recommend taking him if you're a finance major. He gives great lectures and adds his own quirkiness in with real life examples and how to apply the content to the finance world. If you want an A, put the effort in and you'll get it.
Professor Moore's class is one of the most difficult classes I have taken. There are 3 exams, the last exam being a cumulative final. You must be in class in order to understand the material. He is very helpful during office hours and I strongly recommend using that time for clarification on homework. This class requires much study.
This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. I usually get A's and B's and I went to every single class. I was so lost in his class. He would go off topic so much so it was very hard to follow. Also, he taught it as if we already had the hang of Finance, which most of us clearly did not. I got a B after retaking with Professor Hao Lin.
This is the first time I have written a review on a professor in my entire college career and feel it is warranted that I briefly share my thoughts and feelings. Most likely the worst professor I have had in college. Often goes off on unrelated tangents and makes inappropriate jokes during class. Takes pride on being tough. Avoid at all costs.
Dr Moore presents the difficult subject of finance very well, with detailed lectures and accurate "real world" examples related to course content. He offers a personal touch to understanding finance with his sense of humor. Attending his lectures, paired with lots of readyingstudying is the key for success. Overall, a very worthwhile experience.
Just do the homework, and know it in and out. That's about it. His exams get more and more brutal. Yes, He's hard but he curves, and he is pretty funny. Just do the homework and work with tutors if need be.
Avoid at all cost. Went to class everyday to just hear bad puns and corny jokes. Tough subject to learn and Dr. Moore didn't make it any easier. Tough grader, gives pop quiz , uses his personal publish text book, and exams get harder after every one. Class consist of hw, pop quizzes, mandatory class attendance, and exams.
Despite the other comments that you see for this professor, Dr. Moore is a great professor. Yes, his lectures may be confusing if you are not a finance major, but if you show up to class and do the homework, you will do great! There are pop quizzes, but they are easy! And there are 3 exams. The exams are based off the homework! Final is tough!!
Dr. Moore's class is challenging but he is willing to work with the students and help out those who are legitimately struggling, just ask. He has more frequent office hours than most professors and I found him to be very approachable. He uses a textbook that he wrote and it is far cheaper than other professor's required books.
Literally the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. I cannot fathom how the faculty has not fired him by now. Universally hated by all students, even the councilors don't recommend him. He uses a "slimmed down" version of the text book he created himself. (basically cliff notes) but end up being more confusing than helpful.
Dr. Moore is a pleasure. He does move quickly, but he will take the time to provide help that is requested. Come prepared and review all the coursework. It is challenging but certainly manageable, especially considering he curves the median exam scores to 80. Exams are just like the homework, no surprises. $35 textbook which is refreshingly brief.
DO the homework & understand the homework and you will pass the tests easily. The tests ARE the homework and he allows you to have notes on tests, if you don't pass, its because you tried not to pass. If you need help, go to his office hours instead of asking in class- he's a lot more helpful one on one. Class is interesting & uses his own book.
proff. assumes you already have expert knowledge on the subject and knows what he is talking about when he throws out vocab. He teaches way too fast and the material is unclear, going to lecture made me more confused. the book is not helpful at all because he wrote the book. Does not give any clue of the material youre going to be tested on. AVOID.
Dr Moore is a great professor. He loves the subject he's teaching, and his lectures are hilarious and fun. I learned a great deal in this class, but that is not to say it's an easy class. This is Finance people, you need to study the material, come to class everyday and do the homework. If you understand the homework, you should pass the class.
Dr. Moore was such a great and fun professor, but don't think this is going to be an easy pass class! Each test is 30% of your grade, but he does grade on a curve. Do each homework assignment and be sure to study that for the tests, many questions come from the homework. Come to class and pay attention and you should do fine!
Mixed feelings. He teaches expecting you to already know Finance, but he seems to be trying. Material is pretty intense for a 101. Lectures are hilarious and he explains things well. But the lectures are not cohesive with what you will be tested on or the hw. Not even close. The book isn't much help either. Learn on your own and have fun in class.
CONFUSING! CONFUSING! CONFUSING!
He is a great person, but terrible professor. He has his own textbook and it is not helpful. He expects you to already know finance and doesn't teach you the basics. All homework answers are found online and the test is pretty much the homework, but he changes the numbers, so if you don't know how to actually solve it, you're out of luck.
Prof is pretty funny, didn't really learn anything. used the online homework/quizzes to help study for exams. They will help you a TON. Final was a curve ball. I didn't use the book at all but some classmates relied on it. google was also a good source to help learn the homework
Lectures are sloppy, prof doesn't stay on topic ever. Tests are curved to an 80%, but they're incredibly difficult. You can use cheat sheets on the tests, they are essentially the homework problems with different numbers. Befriend google for homework help. The final material was out of nowhere so just cry instead of studying- he'll curve it :)
I wish to state that I see nothing wrong with tough professors, I like the challenge. There are professors and there teachers. Dr. Moore is just a professor who clearly does not care about teaching. In fact, he will vocalize his distain for teaching in class. He doesn't make sense in class and fails to connect the content. Many people failed.
By far the best finance professor I've had. He writes his own textbook, makes sure its not expensive, and lays it out in an easy-to-understand manner. His in-class examples are similar to the hw problems and has no problem going over them in class. The only issue I have is that you only get 1 chance to answer on hw so it's really more like a test.
This is my fourth year at Sac State and I can say this is the hardest class I have had to take so far. He doesn't teach, rather he expect students to already know the material before coming to class. He easily gets sidetracked and his tests are an absolute nightmare as they don't accurately reflect what he teaches/ has us read.
He is a funny professor and I enjoy his lectures but unfortunately he doesn't always explain everything very well. The tests are pretty difficult but based off the homework so if you understand the homework you should do "ok" on the exams. He does curve though so that helps.
One of the worst professors I've ever had, and I'm not usually one to complain. He wrote the textbook he uses, so don't expect it to be any help if you don't understand his lectures. Finding his supplemental materials on his website is a nightmare. Exams are the bulk of the grade and they're hard. He has to curve or almost everyone would fail.
The inexpensive textbook works perfectly as an outline. Take notes in it or alongside it. Lectures can be hard to digest on first run, but good note taking with the textbook help make more sense of subject with each study room through. Prof Moore knows finance cares to reactand is always willing to help. It felt good to be pushed instead of bore
The quizzes/homework will help you a ton on the exams. Hw/Quiz will be on the exam. Same questions, just different numbers. Get ready to learn on your own. Do not buy the book the Professor's book. The Professor's book is garbage. Only buy the textbook because you will need the activation code for hw. He grades on a curve. Cumulative Final
Decent professor, uses My Finance Lab, gets distracted easily, teaches the material after the homework is due, tests use same questions as quizzes and he lets you bring in one page of notes to the test
There is no reason to buy his textbook. He lectures out of it but it is very vague and doesnt help at all. He is distracted easily and will go off topic for the majority of class time. By the end of the semester there was barely any students going to his lectures. He used myfinancelab and canvas for homework. Majority of grade is based on exams.
This class was just a blur. You have three exams, one being a cumulative final. With a page back and front of notes and 3 pages for the final. Also canvas quizzes and online quizzes which is what the exams are based on. Not bad, you just have to teach yourself. He curves all of them so you will be fine.
Terrible dude avoid him at all costs. he doesn't answer questions properly. He doesnt answer questions properly. overall he's a smart guy but a terrible teacher. He has terrible organizational skills. He handed out random assignments just to give us something to do. sometimes even he doesnt know what he does. Take anyone for FIN135 but him
I failed FIN101 with another professor. I took Moore my next try and actually learned something. Even then it was tough for me. I'm not good with numbers and if I missed one class I was lost. I struggled all semester but Moore at least tries to take time to explain it. He does get distracted but has real life knowledge. He was my best option.
Very funny. Goes through things fast though. Homework is due the day before he teaches it. Tests are hard but can use 1 page of notes for first two and 3 pages for cumulative final. Curves grades so if you put in work you should pass.
Lectures: Imagine never knowing Spanish and the prof spoke Spanish the whole course. Lectures don't relate to the book. If you aren't already a FIN geek, you'll get lost. TONS of hmwk, but only worth 5% of your grade, leaving no real incentive to do it. If you have an 95% for quizzes and HMWK, but low exams, you might not pass.
His lectures are super unorganized and he always goes off topic. Study the HW questions because many of them are used on the exams. You get a double-sided sheet of notes for exams so write down some HW questions. Also, ask him to post notes on how to solve difficult HW questions.
Interesting class, a very different sense of humor. He may go on large tangents in class but has brought us resources and knowledge that will help prepare me for my future. If you are easily offended, just toughen up a bit before taking the class. No easy A, it's not that you have to do a ton of work, but you must understand some difficult topics.
He is a really smart guy; personally he has been great so far. He can go off into tangents/off topic and the material is difficult (finance isn't easy). He is sarcastic and funny. he expects you to take some responsibility for your learning which I can appreciate. Not sure why everyone else has bad reviews for him. Wish I had taken him for FIN 101.
The worst college professor I have ever had. This is the first time I have felt compelled to write a review on here but this teacher is so bad I had to warn people His tests contain almost nothing he lectures about. His lectures, if you really want to call them that, are a joke. Its basically an hour and fifteen minutes of wasting your time.
Honestly one of the worst professors I have ever taken at Sac State. The lectures are a complete waste of your time. The book he has you buy has a bunch of errors in it and is just an excuse to put money in his pocket(he requires you to buy HIS book). Is super condescending to students and makes it uncomfortable to ask questions in class.
Moore is probably the worst professor I have ever had. He makes you buy HIS textbook, which isn't updated, from AMZN which is a summarized version of a larger textbook. Lectures are unorganized and constantly goes off topic. I've never had a professor that has said "it actually hurts to ask" and deducts points from your final grade.
He's a really cool guy and has a great personality. But we're not here to rate him on that. You do NOT need his book because it doesn't help. AT ALL. Going to class is a big waste of time. He doesn't teach at all. You have to teach yourself and he expects you to do that actually. Class average on tests 2 and 3 were F's. Yeah. Moore, learn to teach.
He is a great person, but should not be a professor. He clearly knows his stuff but does not project his knowledge well. Lectures are basically a podcast where he talks about his life and expects you to learn everything by yourself, NEVER on topic. Tests are VERY difficult and the projects require an expert high level of Excel knowledge
Dr. Moore is an incredibly smart professor who knows his stuff, you'll learn a lot from him. But he does have a bad habit of getting off topic mid-lecture. The recommended readings are really required; he pulls questions from his book (investments 3E) and Investments by Jones. Tests are tough, study the hw & both books; this class takes work!
When your ability to sign up for classes is delayed you end up with a handful of teachers to select from with awful ratings... David J Moore has a horrible rating on here for good reasons. He does not teach the material and expects us to read the textbook and learn on our own. Why pay for a teacher that doesn't teach?
Dr. Moore is fantastic. He does push you to learn for yourself, the most effective way in my opinion, but will always help when students are having difficulties with anything. Great guy and a great professor.
Dr. Moore has literally said in class that he identifies as a failure and that is why he is teaching us. He explains that if he had sold on time when he had some small investment in a tech company during the dot com bubble, he wouldn't be teaching. Extremely hard exams, he likes to curve the exams and gets mad if he doesn't get to.
I've learned more in 3 classes of Dr. Moore and I wish more professors taught like him. He will not give you the answer outright. He will make you work for the right answer by making you come to the conclusion on your own, but he will happily walk you through the correct process once you explain your own thinking. Excellent professor.
Worst professor ever. lazy, does not teach/lecture and has the class on autopilot. You have to teach yourself. Goes off topic and waist class time in nonsense. Heavy workload that consists of 16 long quizzes, 2 Harvard finals and the group project which is intended for a semester long and not 3 weeks. He translates his laziness to: Soar to sore.
"Sore to soar" was the motto for this particular class. Professor Moore certainly provided the content for us to be sore, but lacked the time and effort to make us soar. Each class meeting he struggled to adequately fill the given timeslots and often went off-topic. He had more of an affinity for joking than teaching.
Professor Moore obviously has a passion for finance itself and is extremely knowledgeable about it. However, he had an extremely hands-off teaching style that was not very conducive to learning. Class time was also often wasted and his textbook was beyond useless. Fun to chat with, though.
This class can be confusing if you do not have any prior finance knowledge, but if you are confused the professor will answer your questions. The only time consuming part of the class is the project. The textbook is needed to do the homework as it basically has all the answers in some form. Chill guy too. Tests are curved so they are difficult.
This class is the toughest class you will take. He does not outline his expectations and the work clearly. Do not buy his book as it is useless, buy the recommended book not the required one. Class grade is mostly on the exams and project. Final exam average was 40% and he curved it to 75%. Attend class, take notes, tough it out. Possible but hard
Dr. Moore's lectures are absolutely entertaining. He will cover concepts and follow the text book in an unconventional manner, but despite how silly and off track his lectures are, there is valuable information. Class is not taught to the exam, so it is important to understand concepts and grades rely heavily on the three exams and one project.
Professor Moore is a cool guy who seems interesting but a horrible teacher. He does not put any time or effort into the lectures. Most of the time, he is just rambling about off-topic content. Also, do not buy the book he wrote; get the book required for the class.
Enjoy Dr. Moore's teaching style that consists of expecting students to have prepared before class so he can jump into the weeds for the lecture. At times the lecture can change topics to the news at hand to keep things interesting. Your effort and time put into this class will be more than most courses.
I wouldn't take his class again. there's multiple pre tests for his class and if you do bad you're grade is tanked automatically. goes off on tangents a lot in class and doesn't really teach. he mentioned his rating first day and said not to believe it but trust me believe the rating... you don't learn much in his lectures but his videos help more.
You have to teach yourself, he doesnt lecture on things that will be on your hw/tests, lectures about random stuff and gets off topic. Tests are very hard so he curves them and they're hard to pass because you have to read and remember everything from the textbook, instead of knowing specific things to know for the tests. Test averages are LOW
No tutors available to help with the complex material. Prides himself in "not teaching to the test" & lectures are scrambled & clearly unplanned. Expected to treat class as a part-time job, dedicating 15-20 hours per week on material. Terrible lectures that add nothing, extraordinarily complex exams, & confusion throughout the entire semester.
dont know why he is a professor. he goes on tangets and makes corny jokes. if you want a class where the professor is clear and teaches material that is helpful for the tests, he is not the one!! he puts out so much material on canvas that it is overwhelming and useless for the exams. he doesnt prepare students for tests. no study guide at all
For the sake of your sanity, avoid this professor if you can. Dr. Moore as a man is funny and friendly. As a professor he is absolutely awful. His handwriting during his lectures is illegible. Lectures are messy and all over the place. He'll go from explaining a concept to opening random tabs. Exams are impossible. He also calls finance finAHnce.
Easily the worst professor I've had. Lectures get off topic and they barely resemble any questions on exams or hw. The main textbook is confusing. If you do bad on the pre-tests, you will already start out with a C. Dr. Moore has acknowledged these reviews, but either he's delusional and thinks he's a good professor or he just doesn't care.
Dr. Moore quickly became my favorite professor and I will be taking more of his classes. The class is NOT easy and it is true that it will take a lot of reading and studying. If you read the textbook, study, and stay engaged, you should do well. Tip: get familiar with the hp 12c calc. Knowing/not knowing how to use it will make or break your grade.
This professor is one of the worst at Sac State. He can be humorous, but don't let that get in your way as if he is a genuine guy. He makes this class unbearable when it comes with grading. Many students failed the final averaging a 40%. Many didn't pass this class because of the reasons of his unclear lectures and notes. Do not take this professor
Prof Moore's way is unorthodox. He does not offer study guides, his lectures can get off topic, and his tests are extremely difficult. BUT most people who failed did not truly pay attention or didn't give enough effort. I am terrible at math, but passed bcuz I LOCKED IN. I really just tried hard and if you do as well you will pass I PROMISE.
Not the professor to take if you are looking for the easiest class. If you want to actually understand the material and do not mind putting in the effort then Dr. Moore is an amazing professor. Has tons of resources to help you understand the material if you take the time to ask. Grade consists of intro quizzes, homework, exams and attendance.
Very funny professor but often gets off topic. He spends more time looking for random files then actually teaching. Tests are difficult, but some questions come from the homework and his calculation videos. Not an easy course, but if you learn the Hp 12c calculator and look at all of the extra material he gives, you should pass. He curves exams.
If you genuinely want to learn investments and develop an understanding, the best professor I have had. When you take him, read all of his modules, and use homework as a reference for what will be on tests, as well as his video lectures. Use Jones's book to study any areas you do not understand. And understand the meaning behind all formulas used.
His lectures are inefficient and he's never really ready-he'll go on a search hunt and forget to teach. When he does teach, he's passionate and does well in applying what he teaches to real-time financial stats. Take time to learn how to use the calculator, because he requires only the HP12C calculator for exams. And get ready to teach yourself.
Overall I'd say he was a pretty good 135 professor. Don't get me wrong, his lectures/notes can be very hard to follow, and his exams are very difficult. However, he is a very passionate professor and his classes were pretty fun. He also heavily curves all the exams and gave a huge overall extra credit at the end of the semester. I'd take him again.
Very good professor. If you show up to class and do the homework you will do fine. Exams are curved and extra credit was given.
didnt learn anything in class.went off topic a lot but also talked badly about sac state he seemed to have a vendetta against them for some reason.he'd say inappropriate things to students and would make sure we aren't recording.everyone did terrible on exams and quizzes, not a fair professor whatsoever. thinks he's funny but is actually just rude.
Dr. Moore's FIN135 class is a challenging one, but with the right approach it can be manageable. The lectures can be disorganized, so supplementing with the textbook and using study tools like Unstuck ai is key. Attend every class, study hard, and you may just pull through.
As others have said goes off topic and doesn't teach very well. Seems like a nice guy and all but can't simply just teach what were supposed to be doing for hw/quizzes. Just posts in insane amount of modules in canvas with no sense of direction or organization.
Finance 160 Student Investment Fund Management is a valuable real-world learning experience. It's not hard, but it takes time and commitment. Stay optimistic, focus on growth, and don't take the professor too seriously — he wants you to learn. If the jokes land, it lands, but if it misses, anyways.
Dr. Moore was truly very disappointing to have as a professor. If you dont do well on the pre tests your grade is done. He will put you on the spot in class and will give you looks. Not helpful in office hours and accuses students of cheating/recording him? Lots of cuss words and inappropriate stories. Take Anna V for finance 136 and save yourself!
Avoid his courses. He is too unserious. He wants you to struggle and be stressed out. He indirectly discourages questions. Classes are test heavy. Canvas resources are far too numerous. Overcomplicates the course and strictly requires an obscure calculator. Lectures are difficult to follow and read. To do well, you ought to already be a CFA.
The reviews speak for themselves. With his teaching style, I don't think I'll ever walk that stage for my family. No matter how many times I may have to take him, I know I will struggle. Some students have different learning styles but he doesn't seem to acknowledge this and expects us to learn such a difficult class on our own. I hope he changes.
*professor moore is very sporadic in his lectures, hard to follow, hard to read handwriting, if pretests are bad you fail the whole course, inappropriate humor, calling on students, gloating in failing honors students, office hours spent talking about how he quit smoking. super weird, please don't take this course....
Professor Moore should be removed from the University, he's very unprofessional and his teaching methods are beyond terrible. Be prepared to teach yourself everything because he wont, he spends class time talking about random stories, how he quit drinking/smoking or what pen he likes using most. Avoid him if you can, take Anna or CSU fully online.
Truly the worst professor I've ever had. Not sure why he still has a spot at sac state. He's a decent person, but he is not meant for teaching. Lectures were mandatory but he would yap and not teach in them at all. Links a million things on canvas for you to use to teach yourself because he knows he's terrible. Super tough class. Avoid.
