Very interesting teacher. Goes into great detail and lectures a lot. All exams are essay and you can use notes and book but it is mostly critical thinking.
Awesome teacher! Definitely gets the brain working in the morning. Exams are open notes and book, however, usually do not need either aides because the exams are essays and critical common sense thinking. He is a great means to an awesome end.
awesome teacher, and a great guy, after my FIG i could always go in and talk to him...big ups to the R 3rd floor-JJB
Maybe the easiest class to ace in all of college history not a hard teacher and mad easy to get along with. If u have the chance get in his class and take advantage of the A
Nice, funny, smart guy. Very helpful and clear. He is such a great professor all around. Though this class IS an easy A, you will also learn a lot from this class. He has a great method in the assignments, tests, and grading, which makes the course a no-brainer.
okay so if u dont take him for this class u should prolly expect to work real hard. jaffee is the most student friendly teacher i have EVER had. has mad respect for students and our un-degreed brains lol. had him for a FIG in '02. he kix ass fo sho!! take him for a shiny "A" on the transcript!

Jaffster is hilarious. He is great at helping you learn to view things from a sociological aspect. Dont take this class with any other professor.
Jaffee rocks! He's a nice guy all around and loves to talk. He loves to hear what you have to say in the classroom and gets the whole class involved! Go for the FIG! You will have so much fun meeting the people and getting close to them while enjoying your easy classes with the easy going teachers. Class of 0/5 WOOOO!!
I love dr. jaffee!!! he's the most awesome college prof. anyone could ever have
He is not an easy A, but he is defintily an easy pass teacher as long as you do the questions he assigns once in a while. Make sure to talk in class to get a good participation rating and just be prepared to talk out your a$$. Thats what I do and it's worked for me so far.
nice guy, very intelligent. will listen to students' opinions. Do the hmwk and study the slides and you will be fine. two exams (gifts) and one final.
Took this class via hybrid online in Spring 08. Great professor, be prepared to be involved in discussions and take advantage of all work opportunities--it will help your grade! Do the reading and be prepared to 'synthesize' and put some thought into it. Really interested in your success and always available for questions. Great professor!
Good teacher. Just be prepared to be indoctrinated into the worlsd of liberals. He is a strong liberal and is not afraid to let you know. Government is good and capitalist markets are bad...or so he says.
Really funny and gets off topic very easily. He tends to focus more on economics rather than intro to sociology. His test are usually easy as long as you know the concepts. Attendance isn't taken but sometimes you do in class work. Overall he's a good teacher and would deff take him again.
I LOVE this class, the teacher is so funny and smart and his lectures are interesting. we don't use a text book, and quizzes are super easy if you attend class.
He is perfect.
Professor Jaffee was is great! He's really funny and if you go over the powerpoint slides the exams aren't really that hard.
Professor Jaffee is a wonderful professor! He is hilarious, really nice to students, passionate about his work, and teaches material in a very interesting way. Some might say this class was easy, but I think that it's only easy because he makes it so fun and interesting! Definitely take him!!
cutie patootie!
I have never posted here before but I want to Advise anyone going to take his online class for Organizations.... STAY AWAY! He assigns easily over 12 hours of homework each friday and expects a post by Monday at 12 each week. Thats just the Discussion Board, you also have another 4-5 hours of homework. Unless you love not having weekends- STAY AWAY
Online class was easy but, he reads everything . He wrote the textbook so reading 30 pages a week and understanding the material is required . It's easy if you like the topic but, I had a hard time because there was a lot of assigned reading and too many theories . But, he's really helpful I liked him but, not the class .
Dr. Jaffee is an awesome professor!! I found his lectures to be very interesting and I learned a lot. He does "learning assessments" not tests so you can use ALL your notes on the learning assessments. So take notes and really try to understand what he's teaching you. great teacher
Great Professor. Research paper on a country. Powerpoint and notes used for assessment (test). Points for attendance. He will work with you. Will take again!
Enjoyed the Professor and this class.Research paper and three assessments (tests). Wants you to "get it." Laid back. Take him. Attendance not mandatory but you need to be there to be prepared for assessments. No Book.
He is very nice! Just come to class he has notecards that he uses as participation! 3 test which are fairly easy just take notes!!! I made an A by barely trying...
He is the BEST!!! Loves what he does and goes above and beyond to help students even the students who blow him off. He is funny and laid back. Will make you look forward to coming to class even though it is not the most interesting course. Best professor EVER!!
Great professor. Interesting to listen to his lectures. Very knowledgable yet he will work to help you understand big concepts. Index cards with one or two questions during class counted for your attendance, which is great for your grade. I missed a few classes and catching up wasn't bad. Overall, I learned a lot (!) and made it out with an A.
I love Dr. Jaffee, he is very helpful and is always willing to get his students to the next level. He is always more concerned with his students learning the material rather then testing them on it. Overall GREAT professor.
Wonderful teacher, whitty handsome older man, assists students outside of class and appreciates office visits, definitely would recommend him, makes boring this interesting.
Jaffee is freaking fabulous!! I didn't know anything about the subject and really didn't care, but he taught me so much and I'm glad he did! The class isn't hard because he is so willing to help. He will do anything to help his students understand. For instance, he changed the way he taught our class halfway through the semester for US. Love him!!!
Doesn't use a textbook because he knows everything. He is amazing at sociology, knows what he is talking about and can explain it. Always a fun class to go to.
Great professor. Funny. You get your moneys worth taking his class. He is extremely knowledgable but not pretentious about it. He made the material interesting by incorporating video clips and small group discussions in his lectures.
Excellent professor to take especially for general education requirement. He doesn't use a textbook so don't buy one. He literally lectures all the notes and his exams are very simple if you attend class and take notes. I am not a Sociology major but I really enjoyed his class. You won't regret taking him if you do!
Consummate expert in the field who respects student effort and is focused on genuine learning, not BS tests and hoop jumping. Read the material, do the writing assignments, and you'll do great. Won't waste your time with a final.
One of my favorite professors at unf. Keeps the class engaged and participating. Makes things easy to understand. Very entertaining, I laughed through the whole class and learned a lot along the way. no textbook required.
I'm frustrated that none of the comments below mine talk about how BIAS he is. I literally sat through every class biting my tongue with frustration. It didn't feel like I was learning about sociology, it was focused on economics, politics, etc. He is an intense liberal, so if you are too then take him. If not, have fun ripping your hair out.
Easily one of the best professors Ive ever had. His lectures are vastly interesting and he encourages class dialogue, so you will never be bored. Sometimes things can get a little ranty and off-topic, but very fun and educational. He's a lot like Dr. House, haha
Professor Jaffee is hands down one of my favorite professors at UNF. I plan on taking another class with him next semester. Although we disagree on many of the topics discussed in class, he always allows students the floor to speak their mind. His tests are very straight forward, if you attend class and fail to study, you will still pass!
He's one of the best teacher's I've ever had, hands down.
He's very knowledgeable and knows this topic well. He is very good at engaging everyone in the lecture. There's no textbook, class is not mandatory, but you're missing out if you don't go to the lectures, they're always amusing. Also, if you take notes during lecture and study them for the exam, you will always get an A. Only exams, no assignments.
The best professor I have ever had. The only class I have NEVER skipped, I highly recommend taking him and this class. Don't buy the book, you do not need it.
Amazing professor!! 3 exams and attendance. He really want the student to learn!! He does a great job! and his personality its great! No textbook
He is very passionate about his work and it shows! I would definitely take this class again. Very informative, fun, and enlightening. Thanks Jaffee! Stay awesome!
Wild and crazy guy!
You don't need to buy a book so I took his econ based class which was really tough, nothing like intro to soc. I got behind (REALLY BEHIND) and he took my assignments up until the eleventh hour to pass me. I got a C which is the worst grade I've ever gotten, but my work was late. He's so entertaining the class flies by. Such a cool guy! Take him!
He's hilarious and I didn't feel the urge to fall asleep in class once.
Awesome Professor. He only gives a few tests and his lectures are super interesting. Almost never homework!
Jaffee is wonderful, his lectures are interesting and he listens to what every student has to say. Only gives out three "assessments" ( aka tests, he just doesn't like that word" and very rarely gives out homework. He also doesn't require a textbook, I would take him again.
Attendance is 30% of your grade and there are three tests. No book required. The tests are about 30-40 questions each and aren't hard if you study the power points he puts online. Extremely easy class. Only reason I go to lecture is because its mandatory, always bring other homework to pass the time.
Be ready to be challenged. Every view you have ever had on how the world works is going to be tested and a LOT of them burned down- I can't even go to Wal-Mart anymore. Truly one of the best classes with one of the best professors at UNF. He does weekly article readings and you write a 1 page review on it and then 5 big essays and that's it. DO IT
Jaffee Is awesome! I had him for Intro to Sociology and I loved the class so much. He is funny and really wants students to understand the concepts instead of just memorizing them. It's a great elective class if you want to get a different perspective on society. Don't skip and you will pass!
Jaffee is very Liberal and brings up heated topics, but the discussions are always interesting. He tries to make it an easy A. Study the material on the power-points a few days before the assessments, and you should get an A. Attendance is THIRTY percent of your grade. Oh, and he's hilarious!!
Attendance is like 30% of grade but the class is super easy. 3 exams including final, and then the daily notecards where you answer questions. Bring homework or phone to help pass time. Exams come straight from power points. Jaffee is very funny and the class can have interesting debates.
Jaffee is funny and clearly knows his stuff and made it interesting to learn about. Having mandatory attendance isn't too hard when you have him as a professor. But outside class, he was not helpful when I asked questions or went to his office because he acts like he is too smart for you. He chooses favorites and it is obvious.
Jaffee is a really chill professor. He gives you lecture and you turn in a note card by the end of each class with your opinion to questions he asks during lecture. The assessments are normal tests, pay attention in lecture and you'll pass. He does extra credit and he doesn't really assign homework. +no text book required.
My favorite teacher. Immediately made my realize I needed to change my major to sociology. Some classes become soapbox sessions/WWE debate smackdown but he's funny and he'll push tests back when that happens. DOESN'T REQUIRE TEXTBOOKS!!!! HATES THEM!!!!
3 assessments, attendance is 30% of your grade. Honestly, you wont even want to skip class. Understand the material to do well on the assessments.
He's really funny but definitely controversial! He loves challenging students opinions, especially politically.
Get this... you don't have to get a textbook!!! He posts his powerpoints, but you should still go. Attendance does matter and he will add things in on the tests that aren't on the ppts. Only three tests, and their format makes things easier not harder. Overall I enjoyed his class and plan on taking more with him if possible.
Attendance is very important. If you attend class you will receive an easy A. He makes participation fun and the lectures intriguing He hates textbooks, so you do not need one. There are 3 tests that make up your grade. Attendance is also graded. But other than that there are no more assignments. He is hilarious, definitely worth taking!
Has grey hair must have knowledge good proffesor will throw maltovs with you
No reading. No textbook. Just lectures. Attendance is taken. Three or four exams make up entire grade. But are super easy.
Easiest class I've ever taken. But you have to show up. Attendance is the a huge percent of the grade, but it's not mandatory.
One of the best college professors I have ever had. Jaffee is a funny guy who knows his stuff. You will walk out of his class much more informed and aware of society.
Really awesome professor. He manages to make you laugh but open your eyes about society at the same time. He inspires you to want to change the world.
Jaffee is a great professor. His lectures are very entertaining, there's no textbook, and the tests are straight from the powerpoint. Literally just show up to class and you'll be fine. I've barely done any work and I currently have an A.
It's really easy to get an A or B in Jaffee's class, but what people should point out is his political bias. If you are anything other than liberal you're not going to like his lectures at all. I know I didn't.
Jaffee is a really cool dude and his passion for sociology really shows in his lectures. Only 3 exams all semester, no quizzes or book, and while you don't have to attend every single lecture, attendance (which is taken every class with a notecard) is worth 30% of your final grade. If you want an easy A/B and to expand your world view, take him.
Jaffee's interpretations and understanding of sociology are thought provoking and intriguing and I enjoyed his humor. Just keep in mind he leans more towards the political side of sociology, so if politics and economics aren't your thing, you probably wont enjoy his lectures. Either way he doesn't require textbooks & tests (3 of them) are easy!!
Literally the best prof I've had. His lectures are great and he is on another level of intelligence. He's what the kids would call "woke." So great, I can't say enough about Jaffee.
Make attendance a priority. It counts for 25% of your grade. The class is very political, and there will be a lot of open discussion on politics and social views. Once you understand Professor Jaffee's sense of humor he doesn't seem so bad.
Dr. Jaffee is very humorous and he has a hands-off approach to teaching letting students take accountability for themselves to do their assignments. He gives you all of the materials to succeed, but he is not going to attempt to make you do it because it is college and not elementary school.
Really cool and funny professor and makes class interesting. He knows a lot about his subject and is very passionate about it. If you show up to class and study his powerpoints you will pass.
Extremely intelligent professor, but controversial topics are discussed in class everyday. there is a lot of writing but it isn't hard, just time consuming.
Dr. Jaffee is a great professor, he received the most distinguished professor award in Spring 2019. His lectures are controversial but he eases them with humor and allows for discussion. He cares for his students and is great for graduate school questions. 3 test, no final; his tests are formatte in a story structure. Not hard but study powerpoints
Prof Jaffee is an amazing teacher and amazing person! He cares about his students and is willing to spend time in or out of class to discuss topics that a student may be confused on. The grade for SYG 2000 is 3 exams and attendance, but as long as you go to class it's an easy A, and more importantly a great life experience.
I like Jaffee, he gives pretty easy exams if you study the PowerPoints and write a few things down from the lectures. 25% is attendance and participation and the other 75% is made up of 3, 25% exams. They aren't traditional exams, more of a story structure and a question after each couple sentences. His lectures are very political though.
His class is pretty easy. Quiz and a question response every friday on that weeks lecture. Does not hand out assignments. No final. His class is super easy but it can get a bit boring but sociology is boring in general. His class also tends to get political but I would highly reccomend Jaffee!
Jaffee's lectures are really informative, comedic, and extremely interesting. The readings and lectures are crucial to passing quizzes, and in all honesty, I wish I could have taken this class in person because I bet it would have been more fun. Overall, I highly recommend taking Intro to Sociology w/ him.
More work than other classes but the work isn't graded fairly. I was excited for the class but I was let down as far as assigned material and grading - I think I did decent in the class but he never posted our grade so we're left wondering until we see it on our transcript. Wouldn't recommend the online class with this professor.
I was very excited for this class but was let down almost immediately. I reached out to ask him a question when I received not one but multiple rude responses asking why he was no longer using the grading criteria he started the semester with. He will not clarify things for you and the class requires 1 discussion post and 1 paper every week.
This course was by far one of the most insightful courses I've taken. The professor did an amazing job at providing valuable information and stimulate creative thinking along with shed light on global events. The assignments all contributed to learning something new and not just completing an assignment. He cares about his students!
intro to sociology was an easy and enjoyable gen ed course. the grade is 75% based on 3 learning assessments (tests) that are formatted as a passage with examples of of terms/concepts imbedded in them like a story that you identify thru multiple choice. the other 25% of the grade is attendance. hes a cool guy but sometimes it was hard to show up
Took Jaffee for political sociology, it was the best class I have ever taken! No textbook, no tests, Just essays for our big assessments and weekly writings that do not take long. The subject matter is very interesting and though the class was mostly lecturing, I did not find myself zoning out very often.
At first he said that attendance was NOT required. This allowed me to work full time. HOWEVER HE CHANGED IT MIDYEAR WITH NO WARNING. So PLEASE check in and make sure his syllabus. Also, if you're a bad test taker do NOT take. He does not give any assignments to out weigh, its just your participation on little note cards. They're about your opinions
Listen, Jaffee is the greatest. He is loud, opinionated, hilariously curses here and there, but TRULY cares so much for his students. Even if youd dont agree with him, hes entertaining, funny, and truly makes the course a memorable experience. Its also really easy. Show up and take notes, read the weekly readings, and youre golden.
Great professor. Lots of papers for this class but overall he's really good at teaching the subject. Would recommend if you really are into international affairs and sociology.
Professor Jaffee is extremely knowledgeable about how social change and economical development has historically led us to our current global situation. There is a good amount of writing assignments and quizzes, but if you watch the lectures and look over the resources you should be fine. Probably my favorite class I've taken to date!
Awesome class! Opens the idea that sociology is in everything you do. 3 tests only can use notes and resources to help and go in order based on slideshows.
I truly loved professor Jaffee! He's really funny and knows how to get you to apply what your learning. He's very animated during his lectures and sarcastic lol so if you're sensitive BEWARE :), other than that I'd definitely recommend his class, because you learn information that you can actually apply instead of just memorizing stuff for a test
Only four grades, three exams and attendance. All 25% each. Great professor who keeps class engaged and always brings positivity. He makes everyone feel in a safe environment in which all topics are welcome. Material is easy to understand and just requires note taking.
He is a good guy who is ready for his career to end he does not care to fail anyone and is super understanding. Just talk to him if you are having a problem. assignments are in class he asks open-ended questions that you answer on an index and has 4 exams that's it (he has weekly reading but they are fast and if you forget it won't matter)
Take Jaffee's classes he's great. For intro to sociology your grade is based on attendance and 3 exams, nothing else, but the exams are pretty easy. There are also readings every week that you don't have to read for your grade but I recommend it because they are always interesting.
If youre considering this guy for any class take him! He will be your favorite professor you've ever had. Very intelligent and entertaining. Enjoys teaching and truly cares about people understanding the material and the concepts behind it all. I feel blessed to have had Jaffee(as he likes to be called) as my professor. Id reccomend him to everyone
Social Change isn't an easy class, but it is a very interesting one. Jaffee is very passionate and knowledgeable about global affairs. He gives clear grading criteria and grades quickly. He listens to students and tries to tailor the course content to what you care about. The only thing I disliked was that your overall grade is hidden on Canvas.
I would take this class again, but you have to be ready to go to all the classes because his notes are all on the exams.
Jaffee's classes are engaging and entertaining. The course is straightforward - just attendance, 3 exams, and optional readings. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for exam prep.
Professor Jaffee loves to talk and go on random tangents. His class does have mandatory attendance, and your grade is heavily based on that. His class is fairly simple, and he does only have a few assignments through the semester. I would say definitely take his class for easy work. However, remember that ATTENDENCE WILL DECIDE YOUR GRADE.
