VERY RUDE!!! AVOID!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!! I'D RATHER HANG MYSELF THEN TAKE HIS CLASS AGAIN. VERY RUDE, DOESNT CARE ABOUT ANYBODY, GRADES HARD AS HELL. ONLY 2 PEOPLE GOT ''B'' IN MY CLASS. I GOT ''D'' IN HIS CLASS. AND IM A GOOD ESSAY WRITER! GOT "A'' IN ENG 1302 FOLLOWING YEAR.(NOT HIS CLASS).
Hardest teacher Ive had since i was Born, since he is head of the English department he grades hard as hell.Only 2 people out of 26 got an A like 6 got a B and the rest either failed or got D's. Rudest Man ever!!!!NEVER ever tudors or stays a minute after class.Please avoid him at all cost!!!!!!!!!!
Depressing to listen to and makes a person feel embaressed for him (tries too hard to be funny). Struggles to get his point across and sighs alot. If you must take him....take notes, watch the movie if you have to read Othello (its the same), and TURN YOUR CELL OFF! He has and will kick you out!!!

I hate to disagree but I liked his class. composition is hard anyway but I thought he was very clear on his instructions. It's true that he would make you look bad in front of the class if you ask him any questions, but he was clear enough with his instructions that there was really no need to ask him any questions.
he just expects too much for a comp 1 class. he is really rude and dont have much of soical skills. his voice is really ugly and he should be teaching some advanced english class not comp 1...if u like a lot of writing and boring teachners that give u a bad grade even tho u busted ur ass ho head and take it but if u r normal dont take this class.

i would never take him again! he is very interesting. He looks horrible, his hair is always messed up and he likes to talk about his personal life(witch is terrible, you will feel sorry for him). his teaching is clear very obvious but in the same time hard. it is hard to please him with your essay. his voice is very unclear!! his tone is very low.

Worst professor ever! he has a monotone voice that bores you to death, he is rude and expects to be treated with respect although he treats his students like idiots. I failed his class although I passed it the next semester with another teacher and got an A!

Mr. James is arogent and insulting! It seems that he gets off to putting his students down. He never messed with me because I kept to myself but I felt bad for the students who didnt. Loves to tell depressing stories about himself.
Sometimes his answers to your questions are a little confusing and he can be grumpy and arrogant but he wasn't too bad overall. Advice: Always showed up to class on time and turned in several rough drafts with papers.
He's sarcastic and grumpy, but he's humorous and if you pay attention to what he says, you'll enjoy his humor and probably do well in the class!
This professor is semi-easy if you pay attention, but you must do EXACTLY what he wants or there will be penalties on your part! Goodluck!!!
He was a very up-front professor. He told you specifically what he wanted and you were expected to follow it. If you did, you got an easy A on your paper. But, the occasional idiot would write his own way and recieve a bad grade. Just do what he says to the "t" and you will be absolutely fine. P.S. write your in-class essays at home before class!

I enjoyed his class. He was grumpy, but in a funny way; has a very dry sense of humor. The class was not difficult and he does tell you exactly what he wants, which is the way all of my other professors have asked for their papers to be written. I would have taken a class he taught again if he taught one that fit into my schedule.
Quite simple. Attend class, take notes, follow instructions, get an A. He has a dry sense of humor and tends to get irritated but was an excellent teacher that gives critiques your work but appreciates your efforts.

Wouldn't recomend you to seat in the first row. He always wants people to seat on the same places for him to remeber their faces. NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. Gives DIFFICULT explanations on the EASY subject matter. GRADES HARD.
By far one of the worst professors I had. Grades very strictly and has made fun of students in class. Has no respect for second language students and makes simple explanations complicated to understand. IF YOU SEEK HELP, YOU WILL NOT GET IT FROM HIM!

If English has never been your strong point I'd say to not take his class. If, however, you find writing easy or enjoyable, you will have no problems.

Do not take if you are looking for a blow off class. Prof is precise and to the point. He knows what he wants in his essays and if you don't have it, you fail. Take notes and listen always. Pay attention to grammar. Purchase the McGraw-Hill hand book, it WILL help. Work hard, and do not get on his bad side. Great professor if you love English.
Professor James isn't as tough as I read on the previous comments. If you show up and do your work, he grades accordingly. Isn't that what school is all about? He does expect things to be done a certain way. I disagree with previous comments. If you want to learn, take him.
PLEASE AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS! Do it for me, your money, and your GPA. He grades really hard and he does not help you or care for his students. He does not answer any questions so don't bother. wow.. what to say about this guy other than he's insane. I always got good grade but had to drop him. He would tell me how good my paper was then fail me on simple punctuation AND I was on his good side. Yet, others he would pass that wrote badly. very confusing.

I took this class the same summer I graduated high school. Biggest mistake ever. He expects everyone to understand English at the same level he understands. His assignments are difficult and he graes HARD. And to top off his hard class, he is monotone. I would NEVER suggest him to anyone.

horrible teacher and person. he is monotone, boring and rude. he woddles in late everyday then gets onto us about having our phones or "toys" out before he even makes it into the room 10 minutes late. honestly i dont know what HCC was thinking in hiring him. He puts us all down and honestly he is one of the worst teachers i had in my 7 years.
My last class with him was like heaven. He's rude, writes rude opinionated comments on papers, and is just overall inconsiderate. Not willing to help, because you "should have been listening". Many people in my class dropped, or quite showing up. I wish I had done the same. Said my papers were good, but my punctuation ruined it, like thanks man.

He grades VERY hard. If you suck at grammer dont take him. If you ask questions wait till after class or he WILL embarrass you. If you pay attention and take notes you will do ok. Unless your an English Major dont take him.
professor james is so many things in one. he is a hard grader, very "ironic", and doesn't like answering questions. he writes a lot on the board that you have to copy down. if he builds a like for you you have a chance. if you do exactly what he says, how he says, when he says...you'll be fine. final is over things that weren't exactly taught!

Really hard teacher, monotone. Leaves generic comments on papers that are redundant of the grade. For example "Generally well written" but get a 65 or 60. You MUST follow his format EXACTLY
Professor James is completely worthless and does not deserve to be called a "teacher". Mr James does not contain a single ounce of creativity in his body, and feels there is only one way to write. If you don't write his poorly thought out assignments with the formula he provides, he will harass you and give you a poor grade. Please stay away!!
Run as far as you can!! While I managed to get a B it wasn't without hard and I mean HARD work. I don't mind putting forth effort but he isn't always clear which can make it very difficult. A lot of people stopped attending after the midterm. Just take another teacher if you can.

harder thing i had ever done, besides he does not like teaching foreign students. i went to the writing center they told my my paper was EXCELLENT professor James gave a 65 just because i am a foreign.
When I first met him, he was the most BORING, TEDIOUS, RUDE teacher I've ever met. I hated him from the start. I seriously DONT recommend taking his class BUT if you plan on taking it, make contact with a LOT of your classmates. His instructions aren't clear and he DOES NOT help you at all, his goals are to make students as miserable as him.

Professor james is a grumpy, monotone, socially oblivious man. He goes off track often while giving directions for assignments, making it difficult to understand. Professor James does not respond well to questions, responding to me "that's something you should have learned in high school." His condesending tone and constant bragging are unbearable.
Just make your college life better by not taking him. He is a very tough grader, will not repeat his lectures, he wants you to write down everything that he says and expects you to memorize it, and it seems that he hates teaching. I think that you'll have a better chance of getting an A in english at Harvard than his class.
