Very hard to understand, does not teach very well, the class is very boring. The test are super hard, no matter how many hours you study. He does give test reviews but his test are so tricky and the reviews are so basic they wont lead you to get an A, you must know every little detail about biology.
I am currently taking him right now..i have a B in the class currently but thats because i go to tutoring and they explain it better. I literally went to class everyday feeling like I learned so much that I didnt learn anything ( if that makes sense).
Taking his class currently. His lectures are informative but not organized. He gives test reviews but they are not very helpful, his tests have questions that are too specific. If he wants us to know something specific on the test he should tell us, not just give us broad suggestions! Tests have small curves. He does not update grades frequently.
Johnson is a very smart guy and knows what he's talking about. He goes through lectures fast so you have to be paying attention. There's a small curve on all the tests and online homework and quizzes due every week. If you're a quick learner and really enjoy biology, I would suggest taking this class. It's a great foundation for future classes.
Johnson is very passionate about biology. He moves fast and his lectures cover a lot. Be prepared to read the textbook. He gives optional study modules that contain 20%-30% of the test questions. Really not a difficult class at all if you do your work, study, and come to class.
Currently in this class now. Very smart man who kows what he talking about. Lecture heavy so come to class. Posts everything he goes over in class, online. GREAT with extra credit, (hes curved every test we had) he wants you to pass. Study, study, study and attend SI sessions.. THEY HELP, do and study the reviews and youll pass the tests.
His lectures are messy, unhelpful ramblings, which fit the spaced-out hippie look. Get help from SI & SLAC tutors, read the book, watch youtube videos, & do NOT forget the online HW & quizzes!! The optional online modules have 20-30% of the questions you'll see on the exams, so DO THEM! He curves on the exams but that's because they're HARD.
You can tell he's very passionate bout what he teaches but I feel like he makes the class harder than it needs to be. his lectures aren't very organized. He has homework due every week that's easy and a quiz due every friday that is also easy. His tests are hard as hell. I studied so much and barely passes.
Specifically designs exams so that each answer choice looks semi correct, no matter how much you study you will not pass unless you have a full and comprehensive understanding of each topic. Very lecture heavy and passionate about biology but refuses to understand that he can not force his students to be just as passionate.
There is a lot of studying required for this course, but if you study and go to the SIs you WILL pass. Do the review and if you have any questions, he is VERY understanding and helpful in office hours. He drops the lowest exam, quiz, and homework grade. He moves quickly through lectures, but theyre online! Offers extra credit too! :)
Johnson is great. Maybe a little scattered sometimes, but still great. He's a really interesting guy, and is very approachable/helpful in office hours. As others have said, the class isn't easy, but that's simply because there is a lot of material to cover. Johnson really wants all his students to succeed, but you do have to put in the work.
Dr. Johnson is very passionate about biology & intelligent. His lectures however, are pretty disorganized but he posts them online. Weekly homework/quizzes online. You HAVE to study to pass. His exams are kind of hard. GO TO SI. Hes also very helpful if you go to his office hours if you need help.
you must read the book to really grasp the material. the SI session are REALLY helpful and he's super approachable during his office hours and helps you with all your questions. by far my favorite professor here at TXST and wish i could take him again
Dr. Johnson really knows what he's talking about. Reviews are created for every exam with material that'll be on the test. You do have to read the book to get a better understanding of material. Some questions from study modules are on tests. Very good at answering questions during office hours and gives 10 point curves!!
Dr. Johnson wasn't a bad professor. The material is very hard and he is very passionate about the subject. You have to work for your grade and this is not a class to take if you want an easy A. Go to his office hours and understand the what he goes over in the lectures you should pass the class. He curves every test and gives extra credit.
This was my second time taking Functional Biology, and I felt blessed to have Dr. Johnson for my teacher; Dr. Johnson cares about his students and wants you to succeed! You'll only hate the class if you don't put in the time or make the effort; I didn't like having to retake the class, but having a private tutor through SLAC and office hours helped
Never really taught. Just read off of the power point very quickly and move on.
If I were grading him as a person I would give him a 5, but since its based on teaching its a 3. Lectures can be scattered and over whelming, test are difficult. I did the review in detail and got great grades on them so it can be done! I used the book for EVERYTHING, rent it off amazon. He is always available for questions if u have them
Johnson is intelligent, but his lectures can be hard to follow. Read and take notes over the chapters before you go to class, do not rely on lectures to learn the material. Do each review and watch youtube videos over the material, as well. He drops lowest test scores, which helps. Do the Study modules before the test, he puts some of them on there
Hes a very intelligent man but doesnt know how to teach. He doesnt know how to break it down for people less educated/ less passionate then him. You have to learn material on your own.
He is literally the best. If you take him he is literally so easy. Visit his office hours and he would literally break everything down. The reason most people say he is hard is because he is not used to 200 plus students in 1 lecture. follow the guide he gives before test. TRY TO UNDERSTAND the material instead of memorize. EASY 100.
He only reads off powerpoint's, Lots of online homework but it is all on quizlet. He isn't good at explaining things in class so it requires a lot of studying outside of the classroom. Be prepared to fail test since study guides don't correlate to test material.
Hes a great professor, However he is REALLY passionate about this subject so he may get carried away in lecture sometimes. If you miss class go to SI sessions, this course material builds on itself, so it is important to make sure you FULLY UNDERSTAND every topic, material learned from Exam 1 is studied all the way through the Final Exam.
This class was definitely tough probably because the amount of material you have to learn in such a short amount of time. Dr. Johnson is very nice and loves what he is teaching. DEFINITELY use SI and take advantage of his office hours. Also recording his lectures helped a lot he talks super fast. I read a lot of the book and used youtube.
PROTEINS DO JOBS! He is a really passionate professor, but he gets carried away a lot. He gets excited about the subject which is great, but you may not understand him. His study guides don't help at all, be prepared to do a lot of homework, and take notes. There's 4 test and 1 final exam. He drops the lowest test grade so that really helps.
Every day in this class is almost exactly the same. He lectures and then tells you what homework and quizzes are do. Quizzes and hw are ALL online through mastering bio and are super easy to get a A for those. The tests aren't easy but they're not extremely hard either. He is very nice but can go on tangents. Overall its a decently easy class
Dr. Johnson is very passionate about bio and honestly, it gets in the way. He rambles and gets off topic and its very hard to follow his lectures. Be ready to study hard and GO TO SI SESSIONS! I cant stress that enough! They are what got me through this class! There is a lot of homework but it can help bring your grade up a lot if you do it well.
Dr. Johnson is a great professor! It took me until after the first exam to really find a good way to study. Dr. Johnson talks really quickly during lecture so I recommend recording it. If you go to his office hours he talks slower and helps you understand the material. He also built in extra credit to our homework! I'm taking BIO 1331 with him :)
Dr. Johnson is super nice and has some funny moments, but make sure you attend each class. His tests are mostly consisted of his lectures and the online study modules, so read the textboook on time, do the study modules, homework and quiz and you should pass.
this class is hard af but that aint Johnson's fault. theres so much homework and quizzes i wanted to die. tests are hard. his lectures are long and he goes through them very quickly. if you go to class and do all the homework and quizzes and study for the tests you will pass. Johnson is stupid smart and he's probably one of the better bio teachers.
This class was full of homework and quizes. He teaches fast so imagine having a MWF it is very fast pace. He is a good professor overall very passionate about what he is teaching. Sometimes he is funny and tries to relate material to everyday life. I would recommend him as a professor but be ready to work.
Dr. Johnsons Bio 1330 course is very challenging he will make you work real hard for your grade and , his reviews give a good understanding of what might be on the test but you definitely have to read the chapter in the book to get a better look and understanding of the material since he lectures very fast . But overall will be taking him again
Dr. J is an amazing professor! He really wants the students to succeed. Can be funny, sometimes goes on tangent (only bc he's so passionate w/ certain topics), but great teacher. His exams are difficult! Quizzes are meh. Some extra credit. Goes over exams in class, which is a plus for people who cannot go to office hours (work/other classes).
I really enjoyed this class, mostly because this professor was so passionate about the subject. He really made me interested in the information we were learning. This was his first time ever teaching organismal, but i think he did a great job. He goes off on tangents, but theyre always interesting and he always gets the course material covered.
Dr. Johnson is passionate about his subject. He sometimes gets side tracked. I read the material before class and he just reinforced it in his lectures. Classmates said they didn't get anything from his lectures but they probably didn't read material. He only gave 5 extra credit points the entire semester so you have to earn your grade.
Dr. Johnson is THE BEST BIOLOGY PROF @ TXST! He is very helpful with questions if you don't understand something. He always goes over the test the next class day. He makes sure everyone understands what is going on. If you still need help outside of class I highly recommend going to every SI session available. I got a 92 on my FINAL.
Seriously good professor, only thing is that sometimes he can lose track of time & doesn't go through all notes. Uploads notes online for students, online quizzes & homework is on Master biology but not a lot of homework it is reasonable. Gotta show up to class though & if you are struggling go to SI sessions or see professor in office hrs!
He is pretty cool. Sometimes lectures can be confusing as he is so into biology. Super understanding and gives you every chance he can to succeed.
TAKE THIS TEACHER. Okay yes its a hard class (its bio duh) but he teaches well. I know some of his reviews say that he teaches too fast or whatever but he teaches only what you need to know. Record his lectures and study. He gives out reviews; people i know in other bio classes didnt get that. He goes over the reviews. Cool guy.
He makes the exams really hard a lot of the material that is on the test is not on the review so I would recommend making your own review. The quizzes were ridiculously hard most of the questions were select all that apply questions. As a a person he is nice but honestly his teaching is a hit or a miss and for me it was a miss.
He's decent. I just wish his lectures weren't as boring/confusing bc he is scattered in his explanations. He posts the lectures. I always took notes from tracs then took more in class from his own words! HW & quizzes are online & pretty easy, use your resources. Extra credit for each test, try to get a 100 on those. You have to study HARD for tests
Overall professor Johnson was a great professor. Come to class, do your homework, and study hard. I only made a C because I didn't put in the work, I did horrible on my first test bc I didn't pay attention nor took studying seriously. I would take him again. He goes over the review a session prior and goes over the test.
easily worst professor ive had at this school. avoid taking him at alll cost ! its not worth it . he makes the quizzes and tests himself so you have to pay attention but its so hard to focus in his class
Johnson is just, bleh. His lectures arent fun to sit through & on the 1st week he was mad ppl werent in class on a Friday. I stopped going to his lectures, unfortunately all quizzes & tests were based on lecture so didnt do good for me. On the other hand homeworks are super easy, theres normally quizlets that have all the answers too.
He makes his exams himself and theyre tough. His wording is weird, hes very scattered, and confusing. Hes a cool person but his exams did not match his reviews making it difficult to know what to study for and I put in a lot of effort into them since bio is my major. Take someone else if you want an A.
Honestly Johnson is probably the best professor I had so far. He's really passionate about biology and it makes it more interesting and intriguing to learn. As long as you pay attention in class and ask questions when you're confused on something, you're going to be fine. He also gives 2 extra credits that are worth 5 points to your grade.
Expects you to study for the class around 8 hours a week on top of everything else. I love science, but he was not a good professor for me. I would study countless of hours for exams thinking I know the material and he would ask crazy questions that seemed like you needed to study the material for years. HE DOES NOT CURVE EXAMS.
This class isn't the easiest, but it also isn't the hardest. Johnson is very energetic and moves at a fairly fast pace. This class is definitely one you have to work for and apply yourself. Johnson wants all his students to succeed but that doesn't mean its a cake walk.
This class shouldn't be as hard as Johnson makes it. He makes all of his tests and quizzes and they are tough. You really have to apply yourself and think outside the box with this class. I wouldn't recommend it if you are lazy. I'm typically an A student and received a B+ after hours of studying. His reviews barely help and his wording is terrible
The only B I've gotten this semester. Johnson is scattered, his lectures shorten the long book explanation, but just confuses the points he tries to make. His tests and quizzes are hard, they come off the top of his head a few days before you take them, so you have to be able to decipher his brain if you want an A. Try to take someone else.
He's a cool guy but because of the COVID, all classes were moved online. If the test was open booked and I LITERALLY looked at the slides that YOU provided, how in the hell do I get C's on the test?? I even studied AND used the material that YOU gave us. I mean, I guess he's alright, but it always felt like what I studied was never on the test.
Johnson is passionate about biology and it shows. His tests are largely based on his lectures. So if you TOTALLY understand his lectures and study the slides along with doing the review, you'll be golden. Being able to apply the knowledge is what got me an A in the class. ALSO, do the extra credits and all of the hw it will really boost your grade.
His tests are situational based so if you don't understand how the certain thing works in real life you won't pass. Khan Academy videos will absolutely save you during this class, watch them.
Professor Johnson is a well-educated, great prof. I recommend him. Functional biology or any bio tends to be difficult but he did a great job teaching it. His lectures are fast paced, but he is very kind and wants you to understand the material.
Prof Johnson was super helpful, respectful, and an overall good prof. I really enjoyed his class and he clearly states the material. I would take him if you can!
weekly quizzes and homework if you pay attention in lecture will do fine. being online it was open book, note, and internet on exams. I did not use the book. got grades in quickly, gave extra credit and curves.
I dont want to sit here and dog someone but I need to. He allowed us to use everything on quizzes and test. Even his notes and powerpoints and a lot of people still failed! He makes up his own questions which he messes up the key all the time! He makes the class hard on purpose he said that in class. On our final, he put questions he didnt teach.
This class was my favorite class but also my most challenging class I took this year. If you focus on his lectures and study the criteria you will be fine. He gives some extra credit opportunities. Everything is open internet, open book, open notes. He does write his own questions though so make sure to know the criteria.
This class was one of my challenging classes but if you put in the work you will pass. He is a very caring professor and he cares about his students passing. Office hours are very helpful. Exams are open notes. He gives you a study guide, as long as you follow along when he goes over the study guide you will be fine. Listen close to things he says
He is a great professor! He gave extra credit opportunities after each exam which really help booster my grade. His test are hard but I recommend going to class and rewatching his lectures/ take notes. I wouldnt recommend using the study guide nor textbook.
He is a very nice and understanding professor. He offers time after class if you need help and he gives extra credit.
This class consist of hw and quizzes due every Friday. The hw is very easy and quizzes are fairly easy. He makes up his exams, so that everyone has a different question, he allows open notes but you cant go back once you pick an answer. You dont need to read the textbook just look at the lecture vid/review. Hes very helpful and considerate.
One of the best profs I've ever had. The class was structured, assignments were clear, extra credit was offered multiple times, and lectures were genuinely interesting. I wish I had Johnson as a prof for more of my classes. He obviously enjoys what he teaches and cares about his students.
Professor Johnson is great!! I took this class online and his lectures were engaging and his grading was straightforward. The material is difficult but he is always available for questions. He truly cares about the subjects he teaches and his students.
great professor! Highly recommend to anyone needing to take organismal biology. Tests are open note.
Tests are very hard unless you go to all study hours and study 24/7. He places study hours while I had another class after he sent out a survey and I said I wouldnt be able to make it due to another class. Very rude and sets you up for failure.
I got a D because I was lazy and didnt do the work. It shouldve been an easy B at least but I never studied and didnt go to class. He is a really good professor tho and will work with you if you ask him.
Dr. Johnson is passionate about biology and that keeps the class interesting. Sometimes he can get a little fast-paced and get ahead of himself, so be sure you pay attention and take good notes. When it comes to genetics, ask questions! There's a lot of info but he's helpful. For tests, STUDY STUDY!!
Professor Johnson has extra credit opportunities around the time we take exams, try not to miss out! He was very passionate, very patient, and one of my best professors. There was four exams and the final, he dropped our lowest exam and quiz. Take lots of notes, find ways to study on your own or with people, and put your best effort in. STUDY STUDY
I took him for evolution as a last resort and he was the only professor who made the subject fun and easy to understand. There are a few papers to read but they tie into the lessons and the assignments and discussion posts are really easy once you get the hang of it. I truly recommend him because he is really helpful and really wants you to learn.
This professor is maybe the worst professor I have ever taken. It is not the material that is hard because I believe that I am pretty good at biology, but his tests are something else. I mean this from the bottom of my heart do not take this professor. His test questions are mostly consisted of "Select the best answers" and there are 6 choices.
I really love this professor. I think the biggest concern most people have with him is that he talks super fast and makes his own tests, which are difficult. But he truly cares about his students understanding the material, and has many opportunities throughout the semester to get help. You'll want to go to office hours. I'm taking him again!
He does speak fast, doesnt pre record (pre rercorded lectures helped), & gives a lot of info at a time. His test are confusing especially his select all questions but he mainly wants you to understand the concepts rather than remember info. Reading his textbook & his ppts helped but considering his test can be over 6 chapter, it's hard.
Dr. Johnson can be very arrogant and super strict. I enjoyed some of his lectures and the information that he knew was somewhat fascinating. However, his test are super hard because he likes to switch up the questions so that he is the only one who understands them. He also doesnt seem to care/acknowledge your problems outside of the classroom.
Course material was interesting, but not always conveyed the best. Lowest grade I have ever gotten in a biology course when I put in a ton of effort. Lowered my gpa. Nice personality and helpful via email/hours, but the Powerpoints and class assessment style needs fixing.
Dr. Johnson does't seem to put much effort into his job. Tests and quizzes have frequent typos and the lectures could be structured better and delivered more professionally. During lectures, he is often reading from the slides instead of speaking organically, he also doesn't look at the class when he speaks, making it difficult to ask questions.
Dr. Johnson was very nice and has a very interesting lecture style. His lecture tend to move very very fast so I would recommend just listening and trying to comprehend during class. Attendance isnt mandatory but if you plan on getting good grades on the test then it is mandatory. His test are very wordy so take your time
Overall, decent class. Very lecture heavy and at a fast pace. Lots of information to retain in a short period of time. Get ready for one homework and a quiz every week. Professor tends to talk VERY fast so it is hard to write or type the information that is being said. Other than that, very chill professor and lots of resources are provided to you.
I took organismal with Dr.Johnson and I really enjoyed it! He made lectures enjoyable and allowed us to take exams online with our notes. He is passionate about what he teaches and he knows how to incorporate jokes into lecture. I can tell he easily gets annoyed at times but I do not blame him. Do the study guides and you'll pass the class.
Work hard in this class don't waste any opportunity you get.
Something that I found a little difficult with this professor is that he trips up on his words often and can have kinda confusingly-worded exam questions. He can be pretty sharp in emails and when he talks to you which can seem pretty rude, but he's clearly very passionate about what he's teaching, and I genuinely do think he's a good lecturer.
He is an easy professor. Idk what everyone else is on. I took him for organismal bio, functional bio & evolution. He gave us study guides & I did them then reviewed for a few hours before the test & made good grades. Didn't have to try very hard. Just show up to lecture & bring a copy of the slides with you to class & take notes. Easy peasy.
Professor Johnson really loves what he teaches. The topics were really interesting. He is not a bad professor, but I recommend not missing class because he goes over some things that are not on his slides. He gives a review for all four exams that are based on his notes.
Lots of information to cover but if you go to class and read you should do fine. He talks really fast so you have to get used to that. Also he gives extra credit for each exam. One hw and one quiz each week. Requires 10-15 hrs of studying each week to get an A.
Johnson is literally one of my favorite professors. He has an incredible grasp of what students tend to not understand so he really knows what to hit in his lectures. Definitely make sure you pay attention in his lectures and go to his office hours and you will do great :)
He's a nice guy, but the tests are pretty in-depth. You get 5 unexcused absences and then you fail the class. You don't have to read the book and he posts the lecture powerpoints online which is nice.
He is pretty cool and you can tell he is passionate about what he does. Lectures are very fast and dense. He wants you to understand the info not just memorize it, so tests can be difficult. His teaching style isn't for me, but he is nice especially if you're interested in the subject.
He messes up a lot in his lectures making it confusing and he goes fast. He doesnt welcome questions. His tests and quizzes are made by him with confusing wording, typos, trick questions, and after grading all tests he tells us the average which is always low like 60-70.
His lectures are extremely unorganized and hard to grasp. He's all over the place and it's difficult to soak in anything he presents in lectures. He's clearly passionate about the subject, but just spits information out very messily. I pretty much taught myself the whole semester with powerpoints, youtube, and the textbook. He does drop lowest test
I would only take his class again if no other class was available. His lectures are so rushed and his review for exams don't match the exam at all. Hes very passionate about what he talks about, but I think he forgets were students and don't understand very single thing he knows. You pretty much teach yourself the semester.
He moves fast through his lectures so make sure you're paying attention and DON'T SKIP. Tests are pretty difficult but they are usually curved. Theres def a lot of textbook homework and its easy to forget sometimes. Not a lot of extra credit opportunities though. I really learned a lot and he was super knowledgable and funny sometimes.
His teaching style is not for everyone. He goes fast and Smartbook is very important to keep up with, however not enough people attend his office hours. He is very helpful 1 on 1 and this class will need about an hour every single day of study to keep up. It isn't him, its the course.
Overall a good professor for a hard subject. As long as you do the assignments and study over the study guides he posts for exams, its not that bad. He gives a lot of extra credit at the end of the semester.
Professor Johnson genuinely cares about you doing well in the class, but you are going to have to put in the effort. He is willing to answer any questions that you have, and office hours are extremely helpful for tests. He does get off topic during the lectures sometimes, but he is very intelligent and will help however he can.
W Mans, classes are difficult if you make them difficult, just turn your stuff in on time and pay attention to lectures and you'll be good.
Amazing professor just hard exams.
This man teaches some of the most uninteresting things that I have ever set my eyes on. He is not understanding at all, dosent matter if you got in a car crash or youve been injured. He dosent care. Now that im through with this man, I wrote this so yall stay away. Also, his study guides are about 50% useful and 50% garbage. Do the extra credit.
Very passionate but tends to ramble information all at once and go a little fast (though he slows down if you just ask). Tests have a lot of trick questions but his reviews are very helpful to understand the concepts. Just do the reviews and go to class. Not as mean as people think, just a bit awkward. Overall just a fun little guy.
If you are not a biology major do not take this class. He provides open ended study guides that are not representative of his tests at all and his HW/Quizzes are not helpful for the exam either. He intentionally picks trick questions for the exam and constantly contradicts himself. Lectures are extremely fast and doesn't cover all the material.
He is passionate about what he is doing, but doesn't teach it well. He purposely writes trick questions(and admits to it), his lecture slides make little sense, he goes off on a lot of tangents and wastes a lot of class time. He is also very condescending when students ask questions.
Very Awful professor. Tests were tricky and also consisted of 5 answer choices each. The study guides weren't of help at all . Don't take him unless you are strong in biology. Also he rambles off a lot of stuff and the power-points aren't very consistent.
This class made me cry a lot. His lectures were very rushed and the exam reviews were kind of useless. Homework and Quiz due every week except during exam weeks. Exams are heavily weighted. Seems like a nice guy if you get to know him. Just review the material EXTREMELY THROUGHLY AND DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!!
Dr. Johnson's lectures can sometimes be unclear as he sometimes goes on a tangent about something unrelated to the slides. But he will gladly help during office hours and offers extra credit. His tests have a lot of trick questions so when doing the study guides make sure you actually understand the topic instead of just reading definitions.
He's a really nice professor and willing to help. Take notes during class because sometimes he says stuff that isn't on the powerpoints that is on the exam. Exam reviews are extremely helpful and you'll pass as long as you do those. Homework is easy and quizzes are based on the in-class worksheets. You'll pass as long as you put in the effort.
Dr. Johnson is great! I am by no means a science person and so I knew I was going to struggle- but David does all he can for his students. If you attend the office hours, dedicate a lot of your time to studying, and just overall put some effort in, you'll pass.
In his class now, overall just mid. I would say at about 75% of classes that I have attended, he has let us know many times that 1 in 3 of us will fail. Admits to intentionally writing tricky and confusing tests, nice guy as a person but as a professor rude and admits to making the class harder. Lots of reading. Does offer extra credit though!
Purposefully writes tricky questions, likes to go off on tangents in class and waste time which is annoying if you don't have a clue about biology. He's basically like if you gave a frat bro a teaching job. At best golden retriever energy, at worst insufferable and reads directly off the slides the entire class
Dr. Johnson is a really good professor. His lectures were very interesting. His tests were very tricky even though he says he tries not to trick you. Attendance is optional but there are class activities that apply to homework. He does offer extra credit and really good exam outlines. So much information is covered it's impossible to learn it all.
Attendance Optional, Online weekly HW(30min-1hr max to complete), Weekly quizzes (10-15min max). Work on reviews as you go through each powerpoint. Extra Credit offered after each test. As long as you do the reviews and understand on a bit of a deeper level it's a very manageable class. Tests do contain trick questions. Would take professor again.
While a little unusual in some regards, Johnson is super nice and smart. Lots of material, some of it pretty complex, but he taught at a fine pace and didn't make tests too hard. The honors section tests had long written portions, but I think that helped due to his easy grading. I've heard non-bio majors say that his large section was very hard tho
This class covers a lot of content and it's by no means an easy A, but Johnson makes it very doable. Attend lectures, do the weekly hw and quizzes on time, do all the extra credit he offers, and you'll be fine. Tends to get sidetracked easily, but he clearly knows this about himself and does his best to stay on top of it.
Tests are not that hard if you study and UNDERSTAND the material not memorize. His tests can be tricky cause he likes to have none of the above pretty often. Attendance not mandatory but for a grade.
The class itself is not the most interesting but I felt that professor johnson made it harder then it needed to be. His lectures were confusing and outdated and I felt I taught myself the material.
He isn't the best lecturer, but this class isn't difficult. There is a quiz and homework assignment due every week (both online), and the quiz is based on the worksheet done in class that week. He provides exam reviews which are very helpful and mostly similar to the test. Attendance isnt mandatory but he does say some things that are on the exam.
Dr. Johnson is a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but his lectures help with the exams. He provides detailed exam reviews that help prepare for the exams. There are weekly in-class assignments and weekly quizzes and homework. He provides extra credit throughout the semester and drops the lowest midterm exam.
His class can get overwhelming. He has a works sheet and quiz due every week. What helps is that he doesn't make attendance mandatory so sometimes I would just use class time to study as his lectures never helped me understand the material he rambles all class. Also the textbook helped a bunch as you have to teach yourself. Test are also tricky
He's great. I highly recommend attending lectures because he will hint at things that may be on tests. The class isn't easy but I had an A+ all the way through until the final, which I got an A. Pay attention and study. He gives extra credit opportunities after every test. He can ramble during lectures, but I find most of the information helpful.
His exams are easy as long as you study his reviews. The review worksheet is a really good resource to study for his exams. Use the worksheet exercises and PowerPoints to study for his online quizzes. He gives good resources for you to be able to pass the class. He also does curves and extra credit which is also amazing.
The class isn't horrible, however the professor 100% made it harder. It feels like you have to teach yourself most of the material and he refuses to round up grades.
Dr. Johnson was an AWESOME professor, I had him for Organismal and Functional bio and have loved every lecture. His class is easy if you pay attention and take notes on the slides he explains. PAY ATTENTION in class he gives you a lot of the exam answers and whats expected on the exams in class. I would recommend him so much for both classes!
Dr. Johnson is a great professor. His lectures are nice, but he can get off topic pretty easily, but only because he is so passionate about the subject. I would recommend actually going to class. He gives answers for exams in class and is generally a good lecturer. The LAs are extremely helpful, so ask them for help. I would take him again!
His class was okay, if you don't pay attention in class you won't ever know what is going on. He gets off topic a lot and second guesses himself sometimes. The worksheets don't make sense if you aren't in the lab or reading the textbook. Not my favorite class.
I took him for organismal bio last semester and he was good. He can ramble a bit but truly a wholesome individual. ATTEND CLASS! Most people on here who do not rate him well just simply do not attend lecture, but attending class is how you can get an A! Attendance is heavily weighted and a lot of the time he'll give answers to tests/hints in class!
I took Johnson for the 2024 Spring semester and he was great! The class is very exam heavy. You have 4 exams with the lowest one being dropped and then a final exam. He offers extra credit and often adds points to your exams to boost the grade averages. Overall, he's a quirky teacher, but he genuinely does love what he teaches and wants to help.
Naturally, biology is going to be a difficult course for most people, but Dr. Johnson aids in easing that difficulty. His lectures are good as long as you maintain attention the whole time. He offers many extra credit opportunities and often times curves the exams to where the average is a C, which means a higher score could go from a B to an A.
He is an OK professor. He tends to ramble off and losses the concept he was teaching. Exams are worded weirdly and kind of seems open ended. He likes to challenge you with semi difficult tests and the hw/quizzes are one attempt only. Expect to learn on your own and study the review sheets well. He curves the tests due to the overall class failing.
If you need to take evolution at txst take it with this professor. There is no extra credit, but every quiz and test was very doable. He actually made this subject very interesting. He held office hours a lot so he truly cares about his students. The quizzes and tests were also open note for the summer class.
DO NOT TAKE HIM I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH. Lecture slides consist of photos with no words, and contradicts material from the book. Graded exams wrong every time. Loves to announce to the class that YOU WILL FAIL him. Ive been in college for a couple of years and have never had a professor this level of bad who was incapable of teaching to this level.
If you can teach yourself, this is a good class for you. All of the assignments are basically structured to teach yourself through the textbook and then the lectures are just to go over the topic. I personally did not like this teaching style and found it very difficult to learn anything. There are 4 big tests before the final. Use study groups!!
Professor Johnson can get a bit off-topic, but his lectures are still helpful if you attend. Utilize the review worksheets and study resources like Unstuck AI to prep for the exams. The class isn't too difficult, just stay on top of the work.
Johnson was a good prof. I am going to take him again for organismal because I enjoyed his lectures. You will get an A if you keep up with the study modules and tutorials because that will be majority of your grade. The worksheets handed out in class are also helpful for the tests I recommend him!!
He is test heavy but as long as you make sure to do his in class worksheets and do the study guide you should be fine. He is very knowledgeable in this subject so he does sometimes tend to overcomplicate things but otherwise the powerpoints and hw are easy to understand and make good review. Also remember to show up it is a grade!
As long as you go to class and understand the material, the tests are so easy. I absolutely adore this professor. Attendance is 1% of your grade which really doesn't impact it if you miss. I highly recommend answering the topic questions before the test, thats the only thing i did and i got a 97 for my grade. I never read the book material either.
as long as you read the textbook and take good notes, you'll do phenomenal in this class. majority of the people complaining about it being difficult did not read the textbook even though he stresses doing that. his lectures are good enough to pass the exams alone, but he obviously has anxiety sometimes and will trip himself up.
as long as you do the homework and quizzes( which can be done with ai) and STUDY and complete the reviews before each test you're good. i never went to class just did the attendance code and did just fine. ppl complained about him but he has tourette's so it's hard for him but he was nice for me. i recommend taking him fs!!!
Prof. David is super nice and he loves the subject he teaches, but he does rant sometimes and it can make lectures a little confusing. He offers lots of extra credit opportunities and the homework isn't too difficult. Tests are also super simple and he'll most likely curve them.
Professor Johnson was a great lecturer. It's not a crazy easy class, but it isn't super hard either. As long as you pay attention in his lectures, the test should be easy. He gives you the quiz answers if you do the worksheet in class. All the other grades were StudyModules and Tutorials, which were pretty easy. Would take again.
I highly recommend taking Johnson's class. He is so passionate about what's he's teaching, you'll never be bored. I took a hybrid course, there's 3 exams 1 final and he drops lowest exam grade. He also drops 3 lowest quiz grades and is very lenient on grading. Also make sure you attend atleast 5 classes.
He was a good professor, and attendance isn't mandatory. honestly his lectures are a bit confusing because he yaps alot but the slides are posted online. STUDY and you'll do well. he drops one test, and some quizzes and hw
Dr. Johnson is a great professor. Lectures are thorough, he tells you much of what'll be on the test, and he will occasionally follow tangents on real-world applications of the lecture material that are engaging and serve to add context to the course material. Just pay attention and take good notes and he'll be one of your favorite profs too.
Dr. Johnson was great. I took his bio 1331 class in fall 2022. He is understanding if you have any emergency, just communicate. He allowed me to take an exam two weeks late because of a family death. As far as lectures go, his lectures are very content heavy so be prepared to write and take good notes. I would recommend going to his office hours.
This class was great, I learned a ton! The exams are weighted heavily, but they are pretty easy in my opinion. If you do the worksheets in class, the study guide, and pay attention to the lectures, you should be just fine. He drops your lowest exam grade and your lowest homework/quiz grades. He wants everyone to succeed and is very understanding.
This prof is one of my favorites! He gets back to students quickly and is very caring and understanding of personal circumstances. Exams (weighted heavily) are pretty easy. I never got lower than an 85 and took him for two semesters. Pay attention to lectures, do the worksheets, and study. He drops your lowest grades at the end of the semester!
The lectures were very hard to follow. Attendance is mandatory and he is difficult to get a hold of.
This guy is amazing. He talks at the perfect speed for my ADHD (he talks fast) and makes lectures interesting. He's clearly passionate about the material and on top of that, hes very understanding. If you miss a lot for medical reasons, as long as you let him know, your absence will be excused. Hes wonderful! The material is fairly easy as well.
This is my second semester taking David Johnson . Hes ok , he talks fast but I would really recommend reading the book, but if you attend class and actually pay attention hes very slick with his words and would say what is going to be on the exam. Do everything and you'll pass!
Really good professor. He would go on tangents during lecture and get carried away but in a philosophical and smart way. You could tell he really loves what he is teaching. Good class overall, make friends and do study sessions because there is a bit of information to memorize. Flashcards saved me big time. Would take him again if possible :)
Hate his class so much. He is so boring and honestly kind of weird. He's obsessed with plants and fungi which qualifies him to teach this. His exams are difficult and he says you need to put aside 8 hours a week to study for HIS class. Doesn't seem to care students have lives and other classes.
He curved the exams really well
He's kind of difficult to understand during his lectures, he rambles a lot, so I recommend reading the textbook. The class has a lot of online modules so if you fail the exams the modules with help you out.
he sucks, he reads off the slides, doesn't answer questions instead he dodges them DOESNT GIVE EXTRA CREDIT. and he's strict only teaches for like 40min and then we work on a worksheet that barley helps...
He is ok. The lectures were very fast paced and it was hard to keep up. I had to do all my learning outside of class. When you ask questions I feel like he does his best to answer but his answers don't make sense tbh. If you just do good on quizzes and do the pre and after class assignment it is an easy B despite the tests.
He's not great at teaching, and his slide shows feel pointless. I teach myself mostly. Sometimes I would email him, and I would make sure to be very respectful and nice, but I always got condescending replies. Felt like he wanted to make me feel stupid.
0 respect or compassion for students, doesn't care what you have going on in life, extremely dismissive and rude. spends half of the class shushing students, and is hard to understand. very very weird about attendance, basically threatened people who were skipping class and marking themselves present.
Can clearly convey the material, utilizes lecture slides, work is not too difficult, and grades attendance.
This class is easy to do well in. Dr. Johnson is a good professor, although he can sometimes get distracted during lecture and go on tangents. He tells you exactly what will be on the exam and does a review for each one the lecture before. Attendance is required but it's only 1% of your grade.
there are definitely worse teachers but he was not a good one imo, i had to go home and teach myself everything. he just likes to ramble on and on i didn't learn anything from him, the tests arent the hardest though as long as you go to the la study meetings
Johnson is overall a good professor. His lectures were often chaotic and hard to follow, but he clearly cares about what he is teaching and understands the material. Held a lot of office hours outside of class to help students and wrote very clear notes which really help on tests. Always gave good reviews for exams, which were easy if you studied.
He was my best teacher this semester. He's very passionate about biology and sometimes his lectures are hard to follow along with because he goes pretty quickly, but he really cares about students understanding the material. If you keep up with the assignments and pay attention in class the tests are pretty easy.
Prof J is actually such an amazing teacher if you are good at picking up material quickly! There are 4 exams and he drops the lowest one! They're pretty easy to study for because all the information is covered in the review he gives you before! There's a good amount of homework, but it's all very easy! Take him if you actually want to learn bio!
