I have become a Jopling follower. He is the best professor in the department. He goes through all of the readings so thoroughly that if you don't get it, then you shouldn't be taking Philosophy. He is also very funny and very intelligient.

This professor is absolutly THE BEST professor in the world. He is passionate and very knowledgable, which makes him an excellent. If you are interested in taking a Philosophy course at York University, definitely take one with David Jopling.

There isn't a truer skeptic out there. The classes are fun and enlightening and the guys pretty cool, he's gotta subtle sense of humour, which can make material that is dull at times very interesting.

engaging, easy to follow. goes over readings with the class and teaches directly from them, making them incerdibly relevant. go to class but don't worry if you don't have time for the readings beforehand.

THE BEST PROFF AT YORK for sure. He is a smart man and you can just tell by listening to him that he truly cares about the students. Even when people ask the stupidest questions or say the dumbest comments, he does not embaress them or put them down like a normal prof would. Simply: GREAT

Wow, Jopling knows a lot about both psychology and philosophy, and makes both subjects interesting to people who may only know about one but not both subjects. Never mind this, though - he is a top-class guy, very nice, very reasonable. Excellent course, excellent prof.

Myself and a few other students have nicknamed David Jopling "Big Jop" because that is how much he rules. A humorous, insightful and ultimately intelligent professor, Big Jop makes every class entertaining, he makes the three hours pass by so quickly. Big Jop is the ideal professor.

I took this course as an elective, but Jopling had a way of teaching it that made the subject matter not too foreign, not too inaccessible. The fact that you can get an "A" in this course if you do your readings and pay attention, regardless of what you previously knew about philosophy or psychology, is a testament to Jopling's teaching ability.

one of the best profs, bar none. incredibly clear, and witty at the same time. can be a little dry at first. makes you think, and can always describe concepts in more than one way, and very easy to understand. he was highly recommended to me, and i highly recommend him to everyone else. kudos to jopling for being so awesome!

Joplain is one of the most entertaining professors i've ever had. His lectures are chalk full of insightful anecdotes and his examples are refined to the point of perfection. If his teaching methods were alcahol i'd sip them till I vomited... and the next day I'd sip them again.

I'm a dood so I can't comment on his hotness...or lack thereof. However, he's an amazingly intelligent and helpful man that cracks jokes and reminds you of that nerd in highschool that used to let you copy assignments even though you were a slacker and would have picked on him any other day. Real nice. Enjoy!!!

OH MY GOD!TO ANYONE WHO'S THINKING OF TAKING DAVID JOPLING: I AM A BIOCHEMSITRY MAJOR WHO NEVER CARED ABOUT PHILOSOPHY. I CAME OUT OF HIS CLASS ABSOLUTELY A CHANGED PERSON. HE IS THE KIND OF PERSON YOU'D WANT TO HANG OUR WITH AFTER CLASS IS OVER. THERE ARE ONLY 3 TESTS IN HIS CLASS (ONE OF THEM A TAKE HOME). AMAZING!

amazing prof, easy class, 3 tests (20%/30%/50%... dont need to read the books, just take detailed notes... only problem is that he answers to many questions in class

Professor Jopling is AMAZING, if you have not had a class taught by him atleast once in your 4 year university experience you are missing something! He is so nice, very helpful and extremely intellegent. He makes the class very interesting and he is SO funny, you get lost in a different world for an hour. I LOVE him. I wish he taught all my classes

Prof Jopling is by far the best prof at York... the best thing about him is that he makes u UNDERSTAND everything so clearly and if you listen to him and attend class... you will do well in the test and final exam... and the class itself becomes a different world...got to take this class!!!!

Really sweet old man! Very helpful and accomodating..a little boring at times, but he goes over the required material in class so it saved you a lot of time in the long run, def. GO TO CLASS, he gives a lot of hints and sample questions for his tests.

You have to remember EVERYTHING he says, because everything can and will be used against you in his exams. This class was very difficult for me because I have very bad memory. But the themes and important ideas of the course are really interesting and he is good presenting them, I liked the class.

He is very engaging! Maybe it was the topic of discussion, but I learned things in this course that I will definitely take with me later on in life. Best of all the readings were short but sweet. I did the work because it didn't intimidate me, and learned a lot as a result.

He's freaking hilarious! Very light-hearted and a cooky but nonethele, well-meaning. He does want to truly help students, so much that he lets people make up a test if they failed it...and there's only ONE test in his classes! BEWARE though, he marks essays really hard, so bring your "A" game.

Very, very kind, helpful, and accommodating. Wants his students to pass and learn. Good overview of the thinkers (Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz), but little depth into their thought. The course is too short, given what Prof Jopling is covering. Records his lessons; recommended that you don't miss any classes.

Awesome dude. Goes beyond the texts with interesting youtube links and stimulates discussion and answers all questions. Records lectures, gives extensions. Funny and helpful guy I highly recommend him. He goes through the text in class so there are no real readings to do just review and take good notes.

I loved this course. The 90 minute classes flew by. I was always immersed in the lecture. Professor Jopling is so funny and so smart - the Rolls Royce of lecturers. This course was everything I hoped for and more!

Prof. Jopling is amazing. His lectures captivate his students, and as someone mentioned before, the 90m classes fly by. Essay topics were interesting and essay writing was a pleasure. The TA marks fairly. Jopling makes me want to become a philosophy major. Darn you Bethune College!

Jopling is probably the best professor I've had in all my years of uni, super understanding when it comes to testsassignments, funny just awesome. Took PHIL1100 during the summer but I wish I took it over the year with him so it'd make coming to school more fun. DEFINITELY recommend his classes, 1100 was a breeze.

Amazing professor. Easy to understand and easy to ask questions. Even records lectures for you, so that you can listen to them later. First prof I have seen that does this. Very considerate. You will need to study as usual, but gives clear breakdown of tests. Books chosen are reasonable pricing (under $50). No surprises here. Highly recommended!

I had Professor Jopling for PHIL 2020 as well and enjoyed both courses. He is the best professor I have ever had so far. His lectures are very easy to follow and he teaches in a way that makes material easy to remember and study for. I barely had to study for the first tests because I could easily remember what he taught and still scored well.

Professor Jopling is the one of the best profs I have had thus far. He is so caring, nice and funny. He is very approachable and doesn't act like a know it all. He admits when he can't answer questions because they're beyond his knowledge. If you get the chance, take one of his classes, you won't regret it.

By far the best professor I've ever had, he's the only reason I even became interested in philosophy in the first place. He cares so much about his students as well. I barely studied for the exam and passed from recalling everything that was taught from the lectures. If you attend the classes you can easily get an A.

I have entirely no idea how this professor has so many good ratings. Dr. Jopling is completely unorganized and goes off topic every lecture to the point where we could not even cover all of the material in the course by the end of the term. Very dry lecturer. Extremely dull. Completely unorganized. Dr. Jopling was perhaps the worst prof Ive had.

Dr Jopling is such a kind, down to earth, caring guy. His lectures are super fun to listen to and he posts podcasts in case you miss them which is very considerate. He can go off on tangents but he acknowledges that & modifies the reading schedule accordingly. Hes also very supportive with essay help! Def recommend his courses to everyone.

I found his lectures would drift off topic. From my vantage point most students were doing other homework or on facebook. Found his lectures boring. But he seemed fair with his marking.

Professor Jopling is very sweet and chill. There are only 4 assignments (two quizzes and two essays) and he is not very strict about them. His lectures are not bad but its all online so nothing 1.5x speed doesn't make better. No participation and readings are soft (youtube videos and few pages at a time). He provides all material for the course.

Found that his lectures had a pretty funny/casual tone, especially when he gives examples. Had an asynchronous course with him, but he seems like a really nice guy. I learned a lot and would definitely consider taking another one of his classes again.

Pretty great prof. The essay and Final was pretty light. There isn't a ton of reading and you really only need to do the ones you are writing for or doing a quiz on. The quizes aren't bad either.
