Nice guy but exams are hard. Listen carefully during lecture.
Funny guy. Exams aren't hard if you actually go to class

Are you guys joking me? he's got to be my favorite professor from all of college so far. he's funny, I've never slept in any of his lectures (video days excluded) and his tests are easy if you're capable of conscious thought. he even ate doritos with
intelligent and great lecturer.. but his tests are very hard.. u have to study for EVERYTHING.. not an easy A.. but nice big curve
he's a great lecturer. intersting class, but the tests are really hard. you have to study a lot for his tests!
Lectures fast but he's very helpful. Tests would be difficult, but if you go online and use all the resources provided on his website, it would be difficult to get a low grade. He posts online quizzes with questions from his midterms and the final.
Great course, especially for the first quarter at college. Entertaining prof, actually made eskimos and aztecs somewhat fun to learn about. Atl-atl demonstration kicks ass.
great professor for my first quarter of college, but his lectures are a little iffy sometimes, either understandable or really unclear (irrelevant to the readings or midterms) but overall good
Funny at first, then he got boring because he tends to talk a lot and go into other subjects. Fast lectures, long/hard tests, BIG curve though.
great lecturer, funny guy, easy class. just do the reading. has all of his notes and review online, which helps a lot. fair test. good class
A great teacher who has an ellaborate class website and on-line lecture notes. His lectures are clear and humorous, but the tests are a little ambiguous.
Very funny guy and goes on great tangents about "initiation".
HE IS THE BEST PROFFESOR I HAVE TAKEN TILL NOW......HE IS THE BEST BUT IS PRETTY HARD ON EXAMS
Very interesting lectures- tries to keep students awake. Very helpful- provides great study guides for midterms and final- as well as reading guides. Read the books, it makes everything easier!
Jordan lectures quicky but keeps you engaged. Tests are not too bad if you do the readings and go over all the on-line resources which he supplies. This man knows so much its crazy but is passionate. The workload is ok if you keep up with it, otherwise its easy to get way behind.
Jordan is so awesome...i just love this guy. I wish he were my grandpa! He's SOOO smart and so hilarious and adorable. He knows the stuff so well...the exams are completley fair and cover exactly what he says they will. I love Jordan!
nice guy, will do phone conference calls before tests so people can ask questions. website is very helpful, make sure you do the online quizes cause he pulls questions directly from them for the tests. tests not too bad. lectures are easy to fall asleep in though. dresses like indiana jones.
Pretty boring lecturer...Fell asleep pretty much every single day...The readings were really boring...But if you do them they should help alot...the midterms were pretty easy...Do the online quizes and read the lecture notes...they help alot...but the final was ridiculous...I recommend Bender.
he is a good teacher and keeps people paying attention in class but his tests are overly convoluted (even the TA's don't know what the hell he is asking). he knows a lot but is also condescending and does not seem too interested in students. overall good teacher but social skills might be lacking.
Jordan is an incredible lecturer with a witty brand of humor that pervades his website, tests, and personality. Is extremely well-informed on his subject and is able to critique authors in the field as his equals. His tests are harder than Bender, but you will learn way more in the process!
Wow, I loved history before but Jordan has really sparked my interest. He is a good lecturer and kept me engaged even though there were times I nodded off. The tests were fair and heavily based on the readings so reading really helped. Jordan was cool and had a good sense of humor. I enjoyed this cl
Funny guy but his lectures can get really boring. He gives you a lot of information. The tests are fair if you don't fall asleep in the lectures, do the reading, and actually study. His website is INSANE!! Curve is awesome. Overall a pretty tough class but you learn lots of interesting nonsense.
I loved this class. His website was very helpful. He provided quizzes and study guides to prepare you for his midterms and finals. He was one of my favorite professors last quarter.
VERY FUN AND NICE PROF!!! Very into teaching, funny, has a AMAZING website that tells all you need to know with sample quizzes, lecture notes. Some online quiz problems are even on the tests. Essay portions of tests graded leniently. Grades are curved, so is easy to get a good grade....had many As.
I thought Jordan did a great job to cater to the freshman student. His website was EXTREMELY helpful and he loved to talk forever if you had a question. Very easy to approach teacher in office hours and exams were difficult, but fair.
FINAL IS REALLY HARD.. BUT THE CLASS AND PROFEESOR IS GREAT!
He is not boring and grabs your attention.
tests are hard and not representative of material he teachces in lecture. i don't think i appreciated his sarcastic nature, especially since the class topic was chinese religion and religion is a sensitive topic. however, he's funny and grabs your attention when he actually lectures on things that are useful.
Must come to class to understand exams. AWESOME teacher. Funny and provides excelent outlets for students to explore course material. Sourcebook is ACTUALLY FUN to read b/c he writes it himself, reflecting his own style of writing. Not an EASY teacher, but a FAIR one. Is retired, meaning he WANTS to teach and is better at it! Highly recommended!
Absolutely amazing. He really cares about his students learning, and mostly just having fun with the material. Although sometimes you do tend to doze off during his lectures, it's definitely worth it to go. Yes, his tests are pretty hard, but he always gives you a lot of helpful tips. And his website is hilarious. Great professor, overall.
Jordan has an awesome website that will let you know pretty much everything you need to know for the final. He gives you tons of study tips and exam hints. Many people say he is rather amusing, I wouldn't know I never went to class. In my opinion, going to class is not required to do well
Jordan is pretty funny & if you go to him during office hours, he will talk to you..forever. Haha~ =P But he is seriously a cool person. Make sure to read all his notes online. There are sometimes helpful hints (& hidden EXTRA CREDIT points) on his website. The class is seriously NOT hard. Just make sure to keep up your reading and it's all good!
Jordan is very clear in lecture and is somewhat humourous. Tests were easy as long as you did all the readings and optional online quizzes. You should have no problem getting an A.
Awesome, funny, quirky prof. Kinda hard to take notes in class bc his lectures are somewhat unorganized/spontaneous and his handwriting looks like egyptian hieroglyphics. But he spoils his students with a website overflowing w/useful and useless info. Do his quizzes. Go to his office hrs once and ull want to attend his lectures just bc u love him.
If you're stuck taking MMW, take Jordan's class! His lectures are a little dense, but he puts lecture notes and everything else imaginable on his website. He draws terrible maps but makes funny comments. His midterms and final were fair and he puts up outlines and optional map/reading quizzes to help you prepare.
Interesting teacher, used his office hours just to chat with him because he's so weird. CLass was overall decent, decent amount of reading, but representative of his tests. He' screwed me over from an A by ONE POINT so im upset about that. Overall not a bad teacher. I would take it over the other teachers. He's a goofy guy!
rowanna the Bonus Point Genie is NOT A MYTH!
he's so tite. he's funny, kooky, and interesting. i had him as a sub professor when my real mmw teacher was away. i wish he was my teacher instead of bogus marion.
Professor Jordan is an awesome guy. Do your self a favor and take his classes if you get a chance!!
VERY interesting professor! he makes class very enjoyable. the only problem is i get so into his lectures that it's hard to write notes. He gives a lot of readings and his exams are hard if u don't do the reading or attend class.
just memorize the quizzes on his website and you'll be set for about 65% of the material on his tests. other stuff comes from the books.
GREAT PROFESSOR...his tests are difficult, but as long as you stay on top of your readings and pay attention in class, you'll be fine. You will actually learn something in his class. Extra credit on his website!! Every class you are guaranteed a laugh...and he is one of those professors you can hang out with at Cafe V or OVT outside of class!!
Be prepared to memmorize a lot of map questions. You will almost know whats going to be on the test but its so hard learning all the stuff. i got an A but a very hard worked one. Expect to know and do all the online quizzes in order to do well in the class. Id say the worst thing about the class is the map questions. Make sure you take good notes.
I thought the class was okay but he is def. the best MMW professor out there. If ur taking MMW1 take Jordan. He is pretty clear in explanation, and even though I hate anthropology he made it pretty clear. Also, the whole class is curved so that makes it waaaaay easier!
I HATED this course, but only for the course material. MMW 1 is so boring. During my quarter, Jordan was unequivocally the best professor for MMW 1, so I took him, and wasn't displeased. Take him, his website is very helpful and you won't have a better prof for MMW 1...
Enthusiastic professor, but tests are detailed. Maps on test can kill your grade!
Definitely a great professor! Very approachable and extremely enthusiastic. Witty comments during lecture, on website, and in sourcebook. TOUGH tests! Studying is mandatory if you want to do decently! Map tests are tough but not as crazy as some might say, if you're a visual learner.
Great fellow. It's a shame I didn't go to class more often after the first midterm. His website helps wonders for all exams. Reading is mandatory in my opinion. Lecture is helpful.
you have to go to lecture and you have to make sure youre on top of the reading. hes taught this class forever so he expects a lot from you. its easy to pass but hard to get an A. DO NOT GET IVO FOR YOUR TA. CHANGE SECTIONS IF YOU DO. TRUST ME. make sure you do all the readings and know your map!!! or just take vandehey, hes really easy ive heard.
Jordan is AMAZING! I thought I would hate MMW1 but he is just so interesting that it's hard not to find his lectures interesting. He's supposedly the hardest MMW prof but if you do the readings and online quizzes then you're set for AT LEAST a B. He knows everything about everything... no joke. Oh yea, hot rating, only cuz he asked for it! TAKE HIM
if you want to learn then take him but if you just want an A take someone else! you have to go to class in order to get an A!
Jordan was a pretty good lecturer but he would sometimes just ramble and so taking notes was difficult. His tests are also pretty hard, they are usually MC, some essays, and Map Questions (Which were difficult). His website however was very helpful and had a lot of info helpful on exams.
Jordan is a very nice, friendly, smart, and elderly man. While lectures were not always interesting, he jokes quite often thus keeping you somewhat entertained enough to pay attention. I didn't always attend lecture but when I did, I enjoyed it. Exams are simple enough and his website is GOLD when reviewing for them.
Do not take. Take Friedlander! Trust me, if you want a C or B, take this. If you want an A, take Vandehey or Friedlander. GO!
Fun class. Jordan really loves teaching (as evidenced by his website). Cool guy to talk to in OH. Take the projects seriously, they are graded hard. If you think a take-home final automatically converts to an easy A, think again. For the love of god, think again. Hardest take-home exam EVER. Weeds out the slackers though, in my humble opinion.
Jordan is definitely an awesome professor. Keep up with the reading and attend ALL lectures in order to get a good grade! Tests are definitely harder than the other professors
The hardest of all MMW1 professors. Throws out the occasional extra-credit to boost your grade. Access grades online and check records. If you do the readings and occasionally nap in class, you'll be fine. I emphasize the difficulty of his class only because his tests are comparatively more difficult than any of the other professors available.
Jordan is amazingly interesting, funny, and intelligent. That said, his class is very hard, and he is a tough grader. Ridiculously hard final exam, almost sadistic. This is not a class that you can skate by in. Still, I'd recommend him highly for anyone who is motivated and up for a challenge. I learned SO much, so it was worth the headache.
Professor Jordan makes MMW1 WAY more of a stress than it needs to be. His exams focus on minute details in the readings instead of overall scope questions about the course. I've heard that the other professors who teach it are a lot easier than Jordan. Take him if you want a challenge.
Jordan is a funny guy, he always cracks jokes and writes really random comments in the sourcebook. He is really passionate about what he teaches. His tests are very detailed, but if you do the reading and study you'll be fine
He has been around forever, and thus he know how to teach, and he is extremely knowledgeable about his subjects. His lecture's are entertaining, and even his tests can give you a laugh.
wonderful professor! great sense of humor and makes a subject that would otherwise be incredibly boring interesting. would recommend for anyone interested in not just learning history, but theory too.
Yeah.. he may be a good lecturer/highly entertaining but his tests are the hardest out of any MMW professor. Would not recommend.
Obviously loves what he is teaching about, a very passionate and engaging teacher. However, the midterms and finals are challenging and go into much more detail than any other professor. Take the online quizzes for sure!
The best MMW lecturer! Yes, his tests are detailed and somewhat difficult, but easy to study for. I mean, the guy wrote the sourcebook, so whatever he says in lecture is the same. Take the online quizzes, the test questions are directly from there. Overall a fun and great professor. Come on, he has his own wikipedia page too! He's awesome :)
He is truly an amazing professor! He is one of my favorites. He is really engaging and really funny. He really seems to know everything about everything. Definately go to office hours. He will talk your ear off. If you need an ice breaker, ask him about his theory on the human chin. Anyway, just do the readings, attend lecture, and STUDY A LOT!
Dr. Jordan is a great professor! He is very funny and incredibly smart. I very much enjoyed his class even though I do not like history. However, his tests require a lot of studying, and they focus a lot on small details. He also likes map questions very much. His lectures are very interesting and his website is very, very helpful.
Hardest MMW1 teacher out of all of them. Hard to understand what he's talking about and jumps all over the place with his lecture. Exams are super hard and detailed. Lots of reading required. Not recommended unless you're up for a challenge.
do not take this professor. take friedlander instead. MUCH MUCH easier. really hard exams, really random MC questions and one of the most confusing websites ever. however, if u take advantange of all of his extra credit opps, u cna get like a 10% boost. take him at ur own risk. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE! TRUST ME!
Funny guy. Tests aren't difficult if u go to lecture and do the reading and review the material online. There is a BIG curve lol
His tests are very difficult, he does not provide a study guide, he is very sporadic when lecturing so notes end up being hard to study off of, definitely the worst professor that I have had in MMW. His 4 unit class was harder than my MMW2 6 unit course! However, he is very interested and knowledgeable in his subject.
Fantastic lecturer/professor,throws in silly jokes here & there. He's been teaching this course forEVER so he really knows this stuff well. Tends to go off topic in lecture but has lecture summaries online. Extensive online review materials, use them and the tests will be alot easier than other people claim it to be. but does focus alot on details.
Extremely hard. I think he wants students to fail with his extremely detailed exams. MMW is a useless course required by ERC. Instead of making the course fun and interesting, Jordan makes it the most hated subject at UCSD. Avoid him if possible!
WOW!!!! This professor is sooooooo amazing! His lectures are so easy and his tests are a breeze!!! You would be remedial not to take him!!! REALLY recommended!=)
All those bad comments about Jordan being hard are so wrong! As long as you skim through all his lectures and the books you'll do just fine. I got a B+ without even trying and felt like his test were pretty easy. He asks many questions but they are commen sense. Would highly recommend his class! MMW1 with him is great! He is so hot!<3 Take him=)
Tests are not hard, but they do require a LOT of studying. I guess they would be impossible if you don't review, but if you do, they're pretty straightforward. If you keep up with the readings and use the online review materials, his class is not nearly as hard as people say.
People who say Jordan is hard are exaggerating. He's a very funny and fair teacher, and while his lectures tend to go off topic, he goes above and beyond to help you on his website with lecture notes and quizzes. Exams are a breeze as long as you run through the quizzes and keep on top of reading.
Prof. Jordan isn't the hardest professor out there(his tests are pass-able!), but his class is nowhere as easy as, say, Carter's. However, he does offer quite a bit of extra credit, which does help a bit.
Jordan is a really good professor one of my favorite this quarter. His test are not that difficult but the final was. But he curves the class and offers extra credit which is really helpful. Go to his officer hours he has cool stories to tell.
His class is way easy! I only studied for 3 hours and didn't do the new reading, and I got an 89, which, with his epic curve, is an A. And he has really easy map questions on all of his tests (if you look at the map he gives out at least once you'll get it. stop complaining.) which are a grade booster. Love this guy! Wish I could take him for MMW 2
I studied for 18 hours straight and read maps until my eyes bleed, and I still only got a B+. The average on the final was a 60%. THIS GUY IS CRAZY.
1. Study. Really study. Go to the library and stay there. 2. Take the online quizzes, they help A LOT. 3. The final sucks, so prepare for that. 4. Go to lecture. Or at least podcast it, it will definitely help. 5. READ THE MATERIAL. good luck =)
An interesting lecturer and genuinely passionate about what he teaches. Yes, he is hard, but not impossible. Yes, you have to know the material but to excel in Jordan's class you really have to understand the material, not just memorize it.
He is such a nice guy, very interesting too. His office is filled with unique items he's collected over the years from traveling. Nonetheless, he makes you do ALOT of readings. Has his own website filled with quizzes and commentary. It's pretty cool but if you're not into history I guarantee you will not enjoy this class. Take Carter!
I did really well in his class; the secret is going to every class and taking awesome notes. You can't get away with just doing all the readings (although that is also important), but if you take really good notes most of his tests questions are from his lectures
Brilliant man. He clearly is very into the topic that he is teaching. He spends a significant amount of his free time making practice quizes for students on a website that he created himself for this class specifically (many of this questions appear on the exams so take advantage!). Tests are hard but if you show up to lecture you'll be ok
This man is a genius, and has very interesting (though seemingly scripted) lectures. His website that he designed himself is fun to explore, and is essential for passing the exams. Über reading, that's for sure, but I recommend Jordan.
Extremely knowledgeable professor. He's truly passionate about what he teaches and you'll learn and remember some of the things he taught in class. As long as you show up for lecture, do the readings, and study the quizzes, the tests shouldn't be a problem. Just remember this isn't a class you can procrastinate for. Take advantage. You'll enjoy it.
Professor Jordan is extremely passionate about this class. Although the readings and lectures can be a bit dull at times, his tests are very forgiving. HELPFUL TIP: Right after reading the assigned readings, take the the online quizzes posted up.
He makes it clear that he's an anthropology teacher as that's the majority of what you will be learning with him. Probably the most important thing is to do all the readings. He gives you a tremendous amount of supplementary material that is unnecessary, but he will also posts notes and quizzes that will make the difference. He curves a lot too.
The best professor that I have ever met. You will regret that if you do not take his class.
He has the best fashion at UCSD, probably the entire world! Them sweater vests though! Those ties be dangerous!
Obviously dedicated to what he teaches and likes to joke around. Definitely cares for the students.Lectures are usually pretty interesting, but can get rather dull. Overall, Jordan is an kind, excellent professor that's fun to talk to. I highly recommend him.
He's retired but still lectures - obviously, he's super passionate about anthropology! Pretty hard but keep up with the reading and you'll do fine. Online quizzes are basically the clicker questions and mc on the finals. BUT you need to know above and beyond if you want to get an A.
He doesn't get paid, so definitely appreciate what he does. He has so much on his website, so utilize it throughout the quarter. His tests are over exaggerated from previous students, and if you ever dine with him, you will have a wonderful time. He is a very great teacher and extremely passionate.
Jordan is an interesting lecturer. He's very passionate about the content. I thought the midterm was pretty hard but the final was ok. Test depend on readings, lectures, and clicker questions. His website is very helpful. Overall a lot of work but not too bad.
Jordan is AWFUL. Avoid him at ALL COSTS. He gets distracted very easily, makes his tests unnecessarily hard, and is boring as all hell. One time we had an entire 50 minute lecture on yeast, that should tell you enough about him. However, his curve saved my grade. But still avoid him if you can.
His lecture is confusing because I rarely knew what he was talking about. His midterm and final were about random things, and he always went on long tangents during lecture. He gives the test ahead of time, and you can prepare. As long as you have evidence to back up your answer, the TAs will give you credit.
Jordan is an incredibly funny and passionate teacher. Too bad most of the topics at hand are way too boring. His website is interesting and contains a lot of cute jokes. The website also gives a lot of resources to ensure your success in the class--take the reading quizzes he provides or you'll regret it!
Prof. Jordan's lectures are interesting and informative. A lot of people complain that his lectures are confusing and not relevant - I disagree. If you are only interested in grades and not learning anything new, just read the book and you'll do well. But if you want to learn (which is why I hope we go to college), this is the class to be in.
Fun prof. Pay attention in lecture, bring your clicker, don't procrastinate on reading or you will regret it.
Tests are not that hard if you read all the readings and session summaries.
Take Jordan, he is absolutely fantastic. For the love of God keep up with the reading or you'll end up like me and binge read almost 200 pages the day before a midterm. Lectures aren't mandatory but tend to be pretty interesting and once in a while they are even funny. Use his website it saved my grade.
If you wanna success (or pass) professor Jordan's class, read what he wants you to read before going to lectures. Lectures are interesting most of the time if you understand what he's talking about.
Great teacher, really funny and would not hesitate to do again! Just be ready for lots of readings, and don't fall behind (otherwise you'll regret it).
Professor Jordan is highly knowledgeable in his material. However, he jumps around subjects often during lecture which gets very confusing. Lecture material sometimes do not come from reading, so it's necessary to attend lectures. Exam questions are very specific. Lots of reading. Readings are essential to passing. Lots of clicker questions.
Jordan is a very wonderful, quirky professor! His website is goofy and amazingly intricate. You could spend hours surfing on it. Always do all the readings and go to all the lectures. Read the session summaries online. As someone who constantly fell asleep in class (although he's an interesting lecturer), I found his tests to be challenging.
He covers material completely different than the readings in lecture, but you should go anyway because he does clicker quizzes almost daily. Material is slightly difficult to remember but the source book was written by him so all the material is pertinent to the class. His website is a huge resource, use it.
Jordan is one of my favorite. Firstly, he is quite funny aSecondly, he has a perfect websites with all course materials and cute jokes. We international students who cannot keep up with his lecture easily go to his website. Thirdly, he is kind and patient, extremely!
I honestly didn't enjoy the class at all. I didn't like that I had to buy a textbook that he wrote himself, especially because it isn't the book used for the rest of MMW. The readings had also had an obvious bias. His lectures were completely random, and did not supplement the readings at all. If you want to basically teach yourself, then take him.
Professor Jordan's class consisted of random lectures and ramblings on the most obscure things. He spent an entire lecture talking about yeast. Students had to purchase a course book he made himself, and the readings were long and boring. The questions for participation made no sense and the exams were miscellaneous. Avoid him at all costs.
I went into MMW always keeping up with the readings, never being behind with a single reading. I participated in every discussion. I did all the online quizzes Jordan has on his website. Even then, I completely failed his class. He rambles on seemingly irrelevant info which ends up being the focus on the exams. Save yourself. Don't take him period.
He's a nice guy but he goes on a tangent all of time. His exams are ridiculous as they are based mostly on lecture, (which is hard to keep up) despite the fact he gives you a lot of reading to do and everything depends on your TA, which I got a bad one. Overall, I do not reccommend take duBois or Chang. Don't let your GPA suffer because of a G.E.
Jordan's class is difficult because you can take all his quizzes on his website, read everything he assigns, study like 20 hours a week, go to lecture , and still not get the grade you want. Tests are hard and he doesn't give clear study guides. Meanwhile your friends in Chang or Dubois can study for less than 2 hours a week and get an A.
Professor Jordan's exams could be difficult but you should be prepared if you attend the lectures and do the readings. He is also funny sometimes, the lectures are quite interesting too.
You can tell how passionate he is about history which is something I find very admirable. However, his lectures aren't structured, so if you get distracted for 5 seconds, you'll be completely lost. He has clicker quizzes almost everyday, his exams are extremely difficult, AND I have no clue how I got a B-. BLESS THE CURVE.
He has some great lecture, but if you do not pay attention, for example start dosing off, then you will get lost. He says like 100 words per second which made it difficult to take notes in his class. Other than that if you read the material and try really hard to stay at the same pace as him in the lecture you will do fine. Also, the curve helps.
The professor is great, the only point is that there are too many readings. Please do the readings, and you will be fine. I got an A- and I haven't done the reading for the entire quarter. Overall, he is fine, as long as you do the reading.
Jordan is a very knowledgeable professor making his class very interesting. On the flip-side he has too much time so he entertains himself by making you work
The thing about Jordan is this: He's a very sweet man, who is insanely passionate about the material. However, his exams are very difficult and he tends to easily wander off in lectures. Nevertheless, the curve he does is remarkable, almost anyone AS LONG AS YOU TRY can pass his class EASILY because every mid term and the finals is curved heavily.
Professor Jordan is one of the most knowledgeable professors I've ever had and his website is phenomenal. Tests are very unique and the content is never dry. Many of the readings are essays or analyses that he wrote himself with the help of TA's and he has a way of making seemingly dry content interesting. Would definitely take again.
Contrary to what you may have heard, Prof Jordan's class is quite entertaining. His tests are challenging because they are unorthodox. He enjoys doing critical thinking questions which really test your knowledge. He did release some of the questions on the test 2 days before the exam, so there are no excuses. I definitely recommend his class.
Jordan is super passionate about what he teaches and I really respect that. I think he cares a lot about his students, and spends a lot of time making his website accessible and useful for MMW students. He's super quirky, but I see that some people don't like his way of lecturing because if you don't pay attention, you'll be lost.
Don't do it. Save your soul.
Dr Jordan loves what he teaches and his lectures are enthusiatic and fun with lots of funny videos. He assigns homeowkr thorughout the quarter to practice with material and grades tough, but it open to helping his students. THE FINAL WAS SO HARD - but he curved it and everyone ended up happy. The class is by no means easy, but A doable.
Do the online quizzes on his websites. He reuses a lot of those questions on his clicker questions, which make a good part of your grade. He gives a full studyguide for the midterm and final, and as long as you complete it beforehand, you're good.
book is online so you don't need to buy it; clicker q's every class (but his online quizzes are usually the ?'s he uses for clicker points so just do his quizzes beforehand); discussion mandatory; lectures hard to pay attention to but he's a really nice and smart old man. he loves what he does (it can be seen through his very elaborate website)
If you want to challenge, take his class. No study guides for midterms and misleading study guide for final. He claims that we dont have to reread materials to review for the exam, but he gives most questions on details that is impossible to remember without reread it. Also, questions on exams are totally different from what we learnt.
Jordan is a good professor in terms of his passion for the course. His lectures are very interesting however a bit hard for note taking, but he does give session summary. You do get to learn a lot. However, exams turn out to be difficult as he tests a lot of details from readings and lectures and it is hard to remember. Would rec to history lovers.
Jordan is clearly very passionate about history, but his tests, which is the majority of your grade, are ridiculously difficult & about very specific facts he says in passing during lectures. On the bright side, his clicker questions come straight from online quizzes, he developed his own shorter textbook readings and he does offer extra credit.
Jordan is one of the smartest professors on the UCSD campus. You want to show up to the lectures, they're fascinating. MMW gets a bad rap, but Prof. Jordan makes it really cool. 11/10
I took this class Fall 2023 out of interest (the theme was Esperanto & The Anthropology of Language). Really chill class you only have to read one or two articles per week (the rest are optional) and write one paragraph about what you learned/what interested you. Prof Jordan teaches just for fun and is literally a foundation of knowledge.
I took the Esperanto seminar - absolutely loved it! Prof Jordan is super passionate and literally the only thing you have to do for this class is show up and do the readings. 10/10 would recommend him for any seminar.
Prof Jordan's Esperanto seminar was a breeze - just show up and do the readings. With the free textbook and helpful resources like unstuck ai, acing this class was a piece of cake. Highly recommend for an easy credit!
