Great teacher--he's not too hard, but he maintains a very informative and comprehensive class.

David is a good teacher; he is easy to approach, and knows the material well. The tests are easy if you study a little. Homework is also easy, but if you do not understand he will help you. I strongly recommend his class.

Kool dude! Great sense of humor. He's an A+ instructor and all you have to do is show to class and you'll have a fun, and successful semester. Exams are fair-easy, not to mention that he is the author of the textbook that you will using in this course. The textbook (spiral) is super cheap, i paid about $7 for a new one. Very easy course if you know computer basics, and Mr. Kirk is always prompt to respond to emails/willing to work with you if you need it. Assignments are simple and exam questions are word for word from the book. 100 questions, but you get plenty of time to take them. Take this class for your COSC credit, for sure!

I take back my earlier comment about Mr. Kirk. He's really boring and you hardly ever see him crack a smile. If you visit him in the hall or at his office, he acts like he doesn't even care. He's really easy but if you want someone fun and happy, take someone else.

Took this class online-winter semester. Prof Kirk was very kind, responded to emails and really cared about his students. I highly recommend taking his class. Remember though if you take the class during the winter semester, the tutoring center is closed during the holidays. This made parts of the class difficult. Overall pretty easy!

I took this class previously and made a D. I retook it with Mr. Kirk and made an A. I took this class online and it was super easy. Especially since he has videos on youtube to guide you through the assignments. He also responds back quickly if you have any complications with homework. Only 5 Assignments and 3 tests.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND this class, hes very organized throughout the semester, he has you tube videos to help you with assignments, responds to emails within 24hr, and hes always willing to help. 5 assignments 3 exams. I was able to use the old Cosc book w/o any problems its basically the same. Glad I chose him as my instructor.

This professor will help you on your homework assignments, but he doesn't like to email students. He will usually takes a week to respond to your emails. Another thing, he likes talking to males students a lot and about money, which I didn't like. But overall his class is easy if you don't miss any day because missing a day you will get LOST!

The class was decent. IF you already know the basics of Microsoft programs then this class is a breeze. If not, he'll be there to help you out. Its a class worth attending, if it weren't for certain circumstances on my part i would've willingly attended every day!!

I took this class online. I had little to no exposure to Microsoft programs with exception of word and ppt. His you-tube videos are extremely helpful! I learned how to create an excel spreadsheet w/formulas and created a rpt in access database.all thru watching the videos!I definitely recommend Prof Kirk!

I took the summer course and I didn't have much computer knowledge. But after taking the class I felt more comfortable with computers and it helped me gain more knowledge as well. Professor Kirk is very helpful and very knowledgeable. You can do homework in class and after class,with the schools computers that are provided in classroom.

There were a lot of interesting things I learned from Professor Kirk. He gives a lot of homework dealing with Microsoft office. He gives test and one has to study for them using the book and his online Power Point lectures. He's an easy going professor and has open labs to help students with their work.

Has a habit of getting side tracked but you can be sure that it's always something interesting to talk about. Is very willing to work with you and help you when you need it.

I took this class for the Maymester. I didn't know a thing about computers and this was my very first online class ever. This course was perfect for that. This man lays everything out for you on You tube . He answers all questions in a very timely manner and is extremely helpful. If you take this class and fail, you don't need to be in school.

I'm taking this class along with 3 others. It's a 4 week course and I've completed the work in 2 weeks. 5 homework assignments, 3 exams, and 3 discussion boards. Detailed instructions for homework is provided and I suggest the book for exams. Not all questions can be googled! I will admit the homework some time to complete, but it was informative

Easy A if youre familiar with microsoft office .he has detailed assignment instructions and also has youtube videos explaining some functions,so you wont fail. The hardest assignment was probably Access but I still got an A on it! Test answers are right in the book so it is very helpful but we only covered ch 1-6. Professor Kirk is a cool guy :)

Professor Kirk is awesome! Gives extra credit every now and then, but with his lectures, you can tell he is passionate about what he does. He'll also bring up kahoot as part of the extra credit and it's lots of fun! I recommend, easy A, show up, take notes and do all of the 4 exams and assignments, you won't regret it!

Kirk is easily one of the best professors I've had on any subject. I've alway wanted to learn how to code and I tried teaching myself, but could never understand it. Kirk made it simple and easy to understand. He is easily distracted, and I am too But he usually realizes it and gets back on track I am glad I took his classes 1436 and 1437

Professor Kirk is one of the best teachers I have ever had. My biggest complaint however, is he holds the student's hands way to much. If you just want to pass the class, this will be perfectly fine. But if you are trying to learn programming, while you will learn, it may not be as much as you want.

Out of all the classes I had this semester, David Kirk's was the most enjoyable. He has a kind heart and a great sense of humor! The class in and of itself may be tough for some (depending on their programming ability) but David Kirk is always willing to help and make you chuckle with his bad puns. I would highly recommend David Kirk to anyone.

Kirk is a truly great professor & it was a pleasure taking the course with him. I had taken 1436 @ Richland & it was all book work (bc the profs in charge wrote the mandatory book) & it was BORING! Kirk made it fun & easy to understand. No book, all hands-on. Attendance isn't really a must to pass, but I guarantee you won't fail if you just show up

I had him for Spring 2018 and thought that it was going to be a hard class but it wasn't. One assignment was hard because I didn't know how to use a software but his videos teached me. I'm glad I took him. He didn't give out many assignments; 5 assignments, 3 exams and 2 blackboards. I had to buy the book for the open book exams. Get Dr. Kirk!

I just concluded his class for Maymester of 2018. Although this was a quick pace course the content was easy. If you have problems or questions his videos are a huge help and he is quick to reply back to emails. I had to rent a book just for the exams though. He is a great professor!

He is very easy going and understanding if you can't submit your assignments on time. Plenty of easy extra credit opportunities as well. He will help you out as much as you can with the his assignments. He'll practically show you exactly how to do them if you come to class. The only complaint is that the class isn't challenging at times.

Professor Kirk has been a great help across all three of his programming classes that I've attended. He gives out a sizable amount of work coupled with reasonable deadlines which really lends itself to asking for help. He is always willing to help a student so long as you don't let your work pile up.

His teaching is like watching a good step by step tutorial and he answers questions with elaborate answers. If he doesn't know something, he'll take the time to find the answers to you in his own time. Take him if you want someone inspirational!

Took the class fast track online and his videos are right on point. Watch them and pass the course with flying colors. The exams are mainly common sense basic computer and internet/mobile phone knowledge. If you search the internet correctly you can find the answers in articles and don't really need the book. Very clear instructions, great prof!

The difficulty of the course you take is more dependent on the material of the course rather than the teacher in this regard, but professor Kirk has been a very friendly and very accessible teacher. He will help you find the issues with your code to the best of his ability, and is usually good at it.

It was my first online class and I didnt know what to expect. However, prof Kirk is an amazing and nice person, his videos are straightforward and HWs are very ez. You can just do all the stuff at the beginning of the semester since he posts everything at first. I promise his class is an ez A!! Take him you will not regret!!

I took computer for summer 1, and I would take it again. David gave examples so clear on homework, and the test/exam were straight out of the book, so reading is mandatory.

LOVED THIS CLASS. The projects are VERY easy to follow, Prof. Kirk even has videos of step by step. They typically take about 1-3 hours to do. He is really funny, nice, and cares for his students. The only hard part is the tests but if you read, everything is word for word from the textbook. Would do this class again if I could!

He is an awesome teacher who really cares about his students. I took him over the summer. We had a total of 7 homeworks (which he goes over before it's due) and two tests. This computer class was very easy. As long as you do the work, it is an easy A. He gives good feedback and responds to your emails fairly quickly. I would defiantly take this class again.

Without a doubt, the best COSC professor I've had. He really cares about his students, and his lectures are never boring. We usually did a Kahoot nearly everyday we had class, and if you made it to like the top 5, you get extra credit. Totally recommend him! Easy A if you look at the lectures, which he also records. He is the best computer programing professor I have ever seen. He makes programing so fun and he explains all the details. I didn't know anything about JAVA before taking the class and he made it so easy and fun. I have experience with other programing professors in DCCCD, he is incomparable with them.

I would love it if he was the prof for every other class I have to take. 2 discussion boards, 7 exams multiple choice 20-25 questions with an hour to complete, and 5 homework assignments. Everything was straight forward and easy to complete. He responded to emails the same day. I like his app too. Cool professor. A great class to take on flex term

This is my 3rd class with Prof Kirk and he is AMAZING as always! He is very caring and wants you to succeed in programming. His lectures are great and he is very nice! However, he does tend to help too much sometimes so it may hinder your learning in programming. But his projects are fun and complex and looks good on a resume/portfolio.

I love Professor Kirk because the chapters on his website are short & easy to understand. If you read the chapter and you dont understand, you can ask him through email or virtual classroom. He replied to emails fast, and he also worked out steps in homework for you. Make sure to read the chapters b/c the information is helpful for tests.

Professor Kirk has his own website for C++, Java, etc. He also has a YouTube video to explain sorting concepts. He works out every homework assignment to help you, there is no reason to fail. I'm disappointed b/c Dcccd does not let Professor Kirk teach any COSC- 2436 in Spring 2022, so I hope he will teach a COSC- 2436 again in the future.

Prof. Kirk is the BEST is just an understatement. I had 4 COSC classes with him and he taught them well in ALL. Watch all the lecture videos and read his own text materials. He helps you digest the material so you can actually learn and want to learn more. Only sad thing is that there are not enough teachers like him.

Professor Kirk is the absolute best. If you want an easy A you should definitely take his class. I took his C++ course for 8 weeks. His lectures were entertaining and very easy to understand. There were 7 home works and 3 exams. The home works were easy and they had clear instructions and he does most of the code in class.

I took his 8 week course and I feel as if I didn't struggle at all understanding any concepts. He was always ready to assist if you emailed him. He offers live lectures if you want to watch in real time but it's not required. He interacts with you if you do decide to join the live lectures even if it's online. I wish I could take his class again!

Everything is hosted on his own private website. Do the 7 homework assignments and watch the live classes he hosts. He goes over everything for the hw and basically gives away the whole thing. Really nice professor and very easy class.

I took BCIS 1305 and he is amazing! He is a world of knowledge so you can learn a lot from him. His projects and exams are not hard if you pay attention, do the work, and read the textbook. I liked his sense of humor. Overall, highly recommended!

Attendance was not mandatory for an in-person class. Set up the lecture so that you could attend virtually over teams and recorded the lectures so you could go back and review what was put out. He seemed to be very caring in terms of getting information to the students. He may seem a bit awkward but is hilarious when lecturing. Highly Recommend!

Professor Kirk is one of the best professors at Dallas College. Also, his website is super beneficial, which I still use to this date. I hope he keeps it running, because whenever I want to brush up on my fundamentals, I come back to his website. I am at UTA now but I loved all of the classes I took with him.

I took COSC-2436 for a spring semester, and Prof. Kirk is truly an amazing computer science instructor. His virtual lectures were quite engaging. 7 assignments with very lax deadlines, and 2 exams. Also, Prof. Kirk does only part of each assignment for us, which makes it way easier to understand the instructions for each HW. He is very helpful.

I took his 8 weeks class. Prof. Kirk is kind, his assignments may take a bit of time (1-4 days in my experience), but he gives plenty of time (a week) to complete them. A very fair grader, a mistake only costs 4 points for this course. He has videos that help somewhat with the homework. He's nice with feedback is nice as well. Overall, very nice!

I got a B, but I will admit that is partly because of my own doing...Very few times I will ever admit that. He is so chill if i even put in 1% more effort I would've gotten an A and that just shows how chill he is. Idk if its good or bad how chill he is...chill as is he is very lenient.
