Avoid at all costs. He will ask you to write up a "simple" report based on his instructions from blackboard and by following these instructions you will wind up with nothing higher than a 75. Not approachable and if you attempt will only validify his comments with a sarcastic attitude and pompus behavior. He is not worth your time at all- take Dyer
I signed up for this course b/c DeSilva was the instructor and over the summer it changed to Konas and ended up being one of the worst classes I have ever taken. There is way too much information in this class and too much chemistry when the class is designed for nutrition majors. Not helpful at all during office hours and makes you feel dumb.
Prof konas is a nice guy who obviously really cares a lot about his students and how they do. He DOES make you study and practice a lot though (class is not an easy A just for showing up), but he's very approachable and always went above and beyond the norm on his own time to help out. If you can work hard, he's total quality.
I signed up for this class with Desilva but to my regret the instructor was changed to Konas. This guy is terrible, boring, pompous, and the most difficult professor I ever had. He will talk waaaaaay over your head and you won't have any clue what is going on in the class. Avoid at ALL costs or your grade will suffer!
Explained chem in a way that made sense. Def one of the better profs-- very helpful outside class
I learned a lot-- challenging but very fair class. He takes a real interest in helping us. Do the practice problems because thats how he shows u what's the most important concepts to know.
This professor is fantastic. Students who gave him bad reviews and think he is hard clearly didn't even try. He is so unbelievably helpful. He goes out of his way to give you many practice problems. His tests mirror these problems exactly. He is extremely approachable. Don't be discouraged by people who expect to never open a book and pass.
Professor David Konas does not have sense of humor but he tries hard once in while . He is very sensitive or easy to get upset, he assuming most of time that ppl always talking about him even they aren't. He knows what all the staff in his head but you have no idea what he is talking about. Never take attendant.
Very nice man helpfull and hot give alot work to do but it is worth. Each student have their own preferance toward their professor personality. Please do not judge book by its cover.
great teacher, always available for help. tests mirror class and homework problems.
i took this guy. was tempted to drop it so many times from such crazy lab reports. no matterhow hard i tried i still scored low on the labs. but to my surprise an average of like 60 is a B in his class!!! amazing! everyone in the class got an A or a B .. no matter how pitiful you were. take the class.. Its worth the agonizing lab reports!
Dr.David Konas is one of the best!!!
Great prof who goes the extra mile and u will understand chem if u show up and study.
I never saw anyone get so fired up about chem... this guy is high energy but also so totally down to earth. Tough class so u work hard but he makes it really clear.
Great professor who really cares about his sudents succeeding. Great for help at anytime and easy to talk to. He helped me actually enjoy chemistry.
Konas makes Chemistry fun because he's so into his subject. He progresses at just the right pace for understanding concepts. He is very helpful and will go over problems in class if you have questions.
Dr. Konas is awesome! He's always enthusiastic about the lectures, which is a good thing because you may not grasp the concepts since some are difficult. Always replied emails promptly, and was available for office hours. Don't go to lectures and think you'll get it without doing any homework. It isn't graded, but extremely useful. Hard, but fun!
I actually looked forward to chem class..... scary.
please don't take an orgo class with him...he grades crucially on tests... on the first exam the class average was a 53... I began loosing hope... take desilva he seems easier...
Konas is the best avg on first test was a 53 but test was based on HW he sits after class and helps students, u will thank him for his strictness in chem when u get to upper level chem classes. highly recomended if u want to learn and not spend the semester memorizing material:)
he is a tough professor, and strict grader but he is a nice guy. He really knows his stuff, and you will leave his class having learned something, and classes only get harder from here. Here is the best part about this class you don't have to teach yourself. Like i said he is a nice guy and no matter how hard it is the class is worth it.
WHAT ARE U PEOPLE TALKIN ABOUT ... SERIOUSLY STOP DECEIVING PEOPLE WITH URE COMMENTS... PEOPLE IM TELLING YOU WITHH ALL HONESTY ... HE IS HORRIBLE OK AT LEAST FOR ORGO LECT... HE GRADES SOOO CRITICAL THAT U FIND URSEF STYDING SOOO HARD AND THEN U SEE IT WASNT EVEN WORTH... HE DOESNT CARE ABOUT HIS STUDENT WATS SOO EVER.. DONT TAKE HIM
He's a great professor..you just have to study all throughout the semester..if you slack off and not do the work until right before the exam which i did very much of, it's very difficult to catch up...this class is all about time management and doing the homework..he's very helpful by the way and will help you if you seek him...honestly he's amazin
Prof Konas is great. I had no interested in chemistry before I took the course. He makes the class interesting. The book is horrible so go to class, take good notes & pay attention. As long as you do that & keep on top of the material you'll be fine. Take advantage of his office hours for extra help! I would take him again in a minute!
He definitely knows what he is talking about when it comes to chemistry. I just wish I would have gone to his office hours, and did more of the homework. Just study and do the work, and you should do fine. He even curves the final grade which was a good thing, especially since I did not do so great on the exams. Would take him again.
Amazing professor. Extremely helpful. Take advantage of his office hours. It will help you. TEaches great. You do need a book. DO the homework because that will help you out in your tests. Test is based on the Hw, so don't be lazy and do ittt.. He even curves the grade.HE is better than Desilva or Isidor. if youn't chem major and you hav him, dnt n
He is a GREAT teacher. Whoever thought Organic Chem could be funny?? Go to class, use the book as a supplement and do the homework. He is the best. Make you schedule fit to have him. I would take him again and again
Awesome!!! Be sure to go to his office hours. I've never had a professor who is so willing to help. Orgo isn't fun, but he makes it possible to pass. Awesome!
A nice guy but veryyyyyyyyyyy hard. he is not an easy grader at all and the curve isnt fare enough... If u want a good grade DON'T take HIM.
to simply put it, this guy cannot teach orgo 2..the average in our class was extremely low, i believe it was 60..he may have taught well in other courses, but avoid him for orgo 2
im not sure how he teaches orgo 1, but he was HORRIBLE for orgo 2..the class average at the end was about 60..and thats only cuz of the project he gives, the test avg throughout the semester was 47 and 30 for first 2 tests, he really doesnt help the grade on the ACS either..i got an F overall, retook it with isidor and got a B..avoid konas trust me
Do not believe the comments that he is a great guy. He will not go out of his way for any student. His office hours are a joke. He is extremely arrogant. Not only that C.J. who teaches the lab is just as bad. Unfortunately he is the only organic Professor.
Dont belive that this guy is a good teacher. he doesnt care about who passes and who fails and makes the tests very hard. Works at a fast speed with the material and doesnt care if you even understand it. No extra credit assignments nothing he actually lied about his curve too!
Great teacher! had him for orgo 1 and he made the class easy to understand. The work itself is hard because orgo is hard but he made the concepts easy to understand and was very willing to help in office hours. Would definately recommend him. Plus he makes learning about orgo more interesting.
Great prof for orgo!! Very clear and always helpful. Does expect a lot though and its not like he tells you exactly what's on the exam so you can just memorize only that- but still totally fair. Keep up and know all HW and you'll do fine.
Do not believe what you read. He's just horrible. He acts like he is doing you a favor by teaching you. He sucks and so does CJ the TA that teaches the lab. If you can take someone else.
Truthfully I thought he wa a horrible teacher. He has a reputation of being nice but he is not helpful and he is for some unknown reason full of himself?????All he does is write all over the board and thinks that is teaching. Take someone else.
It's true, he is a little condescending & full of himself. However, Dr Konas is also very accessible during office hours and will always help you (though he might make you feel a little dumb that you didn't understand something). You MUST do the homework to pass the tests, which are very hard. He is fairly clear. Hard class, but possible to do well
Dr. Konas is an excellent professor. His lectures are very clear and he has 3 hours a week of office hours.. which i highly recommend to attend at least 2. You have to work hard and spend a lot of time studying in order to do well because organic chemistry is hard.
The most clear and organized prof I ever had. Totally helpful and down to earth. Will go out of his way to help if you need.
I LOVE dr. Konas! He is by far the best professor I have ever had, and he's pretty funny too. You really have to attend all the lectures, although he doesn't take attendance. He makes his tests simple and doesn't try to trick you like all other science professors do. I highly reccommend taking him, it was very easy to get an A, and I learned alot.
tough tough TOUGH. he's extremely knowledgeable in his subject area but he assumes everyone is as intelligent. The class is passable but it is HARD. Hours of studying and attending lectures is 100% mandatory if you want to pass. I didn't find him to be helpful during office hours and he's rude at times when you truly need help. take someone else
Amazing professor, always willing to help. Crystal clear explanations. always neat and organized. Friendly and down to earth. the class is a bit tough but u will learn.
His lectures are really clear and organized and he makes everything seem so easy... and you feel confident... until you get the test. I did every homework problem assigned and never saw ONE on the test. READ THE BOOK. I won't be taking him again... He was helpful but seemed annoyed if you asked many questions. If you do get him, just read and study
must attend all lectures, reading the book is mandatory to pass the course, no study guide or review for test, assigns tons of homework which are 10x harder then the examples on the test. Just understand the basic concepts and you should be good.
Study, study and study like never before if you want to pass this course. Dr. Konas is very knowledgeable but does not understand that organic chemistry is a fairly new, unique and very cumulative subject for students. So learn; do not memorize! Understand the concepts, practice problems, ask questions. Do not miss any lecture!
I thought he taught very well, and if you read the text it helps a lot, so I highly recommend you do so. Make sure to set a side time to study each week, and you should be fine. He was fair with his tests, and the final was only 25 questions, and it was reasonable. USE THE TEXTBOOK, ITS THE BEST WAY TO LEARN, and you have to read it anyway to pass
Really great, organized lectures. He knows what he's teaching before he comes to class and always seems to accomplish his goal. His exams are straightforward and clear. He's very clear and understanding, and he's always in his office and willing to help. He'll expect you to try hard and lets you do the work because he wants you to learn.
Dr. Konas is such an amazing teacher. Super clear and organized and he pushes you to really work and think. He's always upbeat and motivating--- I actually looked forward to chem class... Lol
Had Konas for Orgo 1 + 2. Tests were actually fairly straightforward, not as bad as gen chem. Just write down what he puts on the board and review that and you should pass. Assigns a ton of problems from the end of chapter, I skipped around with those as their not reviewed. Overall I found my notes led me to an A.
Organic Chemistry is a tough subject but Dr. Konas simplifies it. His lectures are good you must attend all his lectures to pass because the test are exactly from his lectures. Test can be somewhat tricky but if you do the homework problems he assigns you'll be fine. Did horrible the first exam but managed to get a B.
Dr. Konas was a great experience. He teaches pretty well, but gives off this vibe that keeps you away. He is incredibly smart, and says that his exams are fair. However, his exams are very difficult if you do not study efficiently. If you haven't been pushed hard before, you will have to try harder than you ever have just to pass.
the material is often difficult, but it's organic chemistry, so you know that. attend lecture and do the homework; you can slack on reading. lectures are well organized + generally pleasant -- it comes across that he enjoys teaching. homework is hard (+optional), but go to office hours + he'll work through your (specific) questions.
His lectures are very interesting and mandatory. I mean it when I say that you have to attend lecture to do well. He does not just ramble about organic material- he brings some real world application, biochemistry, and even stories that make the lecture that much better. Great outside of class- he will literally answer any question. Overall great
Attending lectures are ESSENTIAL to pass. Although he NEVER actually takes attendance for a grade, if you miss one lecture, you will feel light years behind on material. MUST keep up on reading the textbook, and this class requires A LOT of out-of-class studying and practice. I went to his office hours on a weekly basis and he is SO helpful for u.
do the homework assignments and go to the office hours!! dont wait till the last minute to do the work or study! Easy class but you have to do the work, keep up and so the homework you will pass!
The best professor I have had with a science class at Montclair so far. You HAVE to attend lectures or you will not pass. But he is pretty funny and the lectures go by fast for the most part. The tests are not terrible but you have to study A LOT to do well on them. The homework he assigns isn't graded but actually do them! It really helps!
Here's the thing, Dr. Konas is great. Orgo? Not so great. But he is a good professor, he has office hours to attend for help. He loves to talk and will teach to the last minute. His grades are solely based on exams. HW doesn't count, but it definitely helps to do it. You need to study and understand the material. His 85 is an A- so he does curve.
Dr. Konas is super helpful but his exams are insane or how he grades. Exam 2 is often the hardest. Exam 3 studied for two weeks straight and failed. I would not take him if you are not ready to push yourself beyond breaking point. Specially if you have a heavy load work he also does not assign previous exams so you don't know what you get.
Im taking him rn for orgo one! This man is hilarious, first exam is cake just pay attention so you wont make stupid mistakes. Exam dos! Isnt hard but understanding how to apply the concept is hard. So stud spec. I havent gotten through the rest! Taking him for orgo two! pop quizzes only count highest four.
1. DO THE HOMEWORK. 2. Go to his office hours. 3. 85 and up on all exams is an A-. 4. Gives partial credit on exams. 5. WATCH the conferences. 6. Your welcome.
Dr. Konas is a good professor if you have the time to dedicate to his class. If you have a bunch of other classes going on, taking him could be a bit more difficult than expected. He does care, but you definitely have to work for the credit. Good luck!
Good Professor but he grades very very very tough. Orgo is a hard in and of itself, but if you get something slightly wrong on a test he will take a lot of points off. Get ready to read your textbook because he doesn't cover every little thing in class. He provides awesome extra videos you can watch in your spare time. He gives a huge curve.
So, Ive taken Orgo I & II with him. Got an A and A-. Hes great exams are straight forward. He was more productive in O 1 but slacked later in O2. Not good. Very vague on certain topics, therefore, you need to figure it out online. Youtube is best resource so make use of it. Pop quizzes... theyre whatever. Hence my A- but overall great love him
Professor Konas is awesome! I have him now for ochem 1, and will be taking him for ochem 2. The secret to getting an A in this class is LOTS of practice. Every single day! No lie- this class has taken SO much of my time this semester. It requires a ton of work. Also, get the book "Organic Chemistry as a Second Language". This book will SAVE you!
Very cranky and so strict when it comes to grading. Ask one thing and he will unleash his wrath on you. I would recommend taking someone else honestly. I put in a lot of time and effort, but nonetheless, still isn't helping with his bizarre teaching methods. Can't believe he even is a professor, let alone a doctor.
This was an online/in person class, so it was already extremely difficult. His tests are ALL open ended and super hard, he is a very tough grader. I study and put so much effort into this class, and I seem to never get a decent grade... I deff would not take him again. No partial credit it seems, doesn't drop lowest test or quiz.
Don't see your grades, no feedback really, show up a nano second late and your losing points, need to be able to recall info from prior labs for quizzes, and pre lab work is a stretch
Great Prof for organic and definitely the one to take if you REALLY want to learn the subject! This is a hybrid mix class and he posted a ton of lecture videos plus held live and in person problem sessions. Super helpful and recommended!
WORST CHEM PROFESSOR EVER!!!! he is so nasty, tough grader, doesn't care if everyone fails the course.. tests are incredibly difficult, no extra credits, doesn't drop any low grades for anything. Basically if you take him you're setting yourself up for failure. DON'T TAKE HIM. THE WORST.
I would not recommend him to anyone. He makes the class extremely difficult and is a very tough grader when it comes to quizzes and tests. If you don't want to mess up your GPA do not take him. My entire class is barely passing. Some are not. I wouldn't recommend him, take someone else in the department. Trust me.
Organic chemistry during covid is difficult as is. He made it 1000% worse. The schedule was suitable for himself not the students. In fact his pacing was so terrible we had to learn new chapters the week before exams OUTSIDE of class sessions. His grading is extremely harsh and he expects students to do bad. Wasnt in the least surprised by the avg
Online classes were so difficult due to covid and he honestly made it so hard for us to pass this class. He kept adding last minute chapters to the final exam a week before we had to take it, and set up lecture times when it was convenient TO HIM not us. He didn't consider that we had other classes or work. TOUGH GRADER. I wouldn't recommend him.
This class was such a positive experience! He pushes you to work hard so you have to earn the grade but really cares and gives everything you need to learn. He answered questions for me on email even on weekends. Class was hybrid and he recorded extra videos that explained things clearly. My friends recommended him and I'm so glad I listened
Amazing professor! I would recommend anyone to take him if you actually want to learn and succeed in Orgo Chem. He teaches the material clearly; what you learn in class and do for homework shows up on the exams so nothing is a mystery. Final grades of 85 and up are guaranteed A- or A. Not an easy A, so you have to study the material thoroughly.
Konas is Amazing. To succeed in this class go over the topics in the textbook beforehand and visit his office. He is extremely helpful, I scored extremely well in this course and you can too if you work hard and do all the homework problems (2-3x), exams are easier than most homework problems. He is good at keeping his students engaged and funny.
I am terrible at organic chem, but Konas is actually a super enjoyable professor. I'm barely passing this class, yet his lectures are fun and clear. Your grade HEAVILY relies on your ability to study so keep that in mind if you struggle with that. But his exams are very similar to his quizzes and hw. Great chem prof!
I am so frustrated. I went to office hours, read the textbooks, and went to every lecture, and I still did horribly. His lectures most of the time make no sense. And overall you would be better off taking anybody else. Literally. Save yourself the hassle and the trauma, and just not take him. Is he a nice person? Yes. But that's not why you're here
as a student who does fairly well, this class threw me for a loop. i attended every lecture, did all the homework, and watched every assigned video, still no luck. once the si left grades worsened. only grades off testing and no material is genuinely taught in class. take this class if u wanna teach yourself.
Dr Konas is very clear and organized. While his class is tough, if you do the work he suggests and put in the effort you will be set up for success.
As a student that has gotten an A in pretty much all of my Chem classes this class was so different. He honestly isn't clear about how in-depth you should study for the exams. DOESN'T PROVIDE PRACTICE EXAMS!! The only thing that made me pass this class is that I did amazing on the ACS exam but failed his exams. That should tell you how bade he is.
Professor Konas care about his students success. He goes out of his way to help during office hours Sure, his exams are tough, but if you tackle his homework problems, you'll be well-prepared.
I would rather swallow glass than ever take him again, he made no effort to make sure his students learn or grasp the material. He teaches like you're supposed to know what he's talking about, doesnt give any material out of class. I have no idea how he's qualified to teach. If you're taking him or looking to take him do yourself a favor and don't
