THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER! He's da only prof. who could get me to change my major b/c of how intersting his classes r. He's so laid back n coo. U don't have to worry bout ANYTHING. Just listen to his lectures which r GREAT n read da text n u'll do GREAT! He marks pretty easy too. HE'S DA COOLEST PROF.
He's an easy teacher, but his tests are hard. For his papers, all you need to do is write a lot, dont worry about if it makes sense or not.
Dr. Krahl is a very nice and helpful professor. He understands that you are taking more than one class and will really work with you if you have a problem. His tests are long and sometimes hard learning cases but as long as you try hard you will make it just fine.
Dr. Krahl is the bomb!!Definitely take his classes.
Dr. Krahl is the best instructor ever, brilliant and is pretty easy on the eyes!!!
He's just a really good guy which makes him a great teacher..
Great Teacher. Nice guy. Funny, Caring, and always there to listen. Smartest and easy going teacher there is.
The guy is awesome. Willing to work with the students on assignments and the syllabus. He is in touch with reality and realizes when the lecture should be over. Take his DRUGS class, if you really want to learn a lot. Awesome.
dave is a good professor, he's hard, but he'll helpu out if u need it. if you're a cute girl he may hit on u! trust me
He's a Rawkstar!! He is a really good at teaching and he makes class interesting so Rawk On!!
awesome
Fun guy. Not gonna lie, the class can get hard, but he gives study guides and curves all tests. He is one of the best teachers. very caring about his students, and an all around good guy. always has good stories. wish i could take him again! Take Him!
AWESOME PROFESSOR. HE IS FUNNY AND ENTERTAINING. OFFERS EXTRA CREDIT AND DOES HUGE CURVES B/C HIS TESTS ARE PRETTY HARD. BE PREPARED TO STUDY A LOT AND BE ENTERTAINED BY HIS SLIDES. HAS GREAT STUDY GUIDES.
Hes the man!You dont have to go to class..no homework..but 3 tests are take home and hard as hell essays. He's cool, funny, and has great stories
He is the man his lectures are funny and interesting. I wish I can get him again. TAKE THIS CLASS trust me you will like it. Dr. Krahl is the best teacher here at this university.
hes the man. Super easy class if your do the study guides. gives a lot of extra credit and he is a funny guy. And he always lets us out of class early.
hes awesome. oool. do the studyguides ... they work... gives lots of extra credit. tell him hes the man. take him
drugs dev and crime - KRAHL IS AMAZING! my fav teacher at UT by farrrr. he is hilarious you are garanteed a laugh everytime you go to class. actually wanted to go to class which is a first. Tests are easy if you do the study guide which takes a few hours to finish, not bad at all. interesting any way . TAKE HIM !!!! just such a awesome guy fo shoo
Awesome!!! Great professor! very chilled and laid back. Teaches in a way that gets you intrested. I took two CRM classes with him and there is none better!
He knows what he's talking about, and his stories are really entertaining. Although it can get boring, it's worthwhile to goto class. The tests are straightforward, and make sure you do you projects farther in advance than one day. You'll do well if you want to.
He is the best professor ever!! Let us to take home exams, gave lots of extra credit, and let us get out early. He's a really understanding guy too. If you can take him I would. And if your cute he'll like you even more!
He is one of the best professors i've ever had.
I am not even a history, social science, or sociolgy major, yet his social issues class is one of my favorite classes to date. He is one of the best professors I've ever had
He is a pretty good professor. He tries his best to explain and he uses a lot of examples but his tests are killer. They are primarily from the text book and a lot of them are trick questions with how he words them and the numbers he used in his questions about statistics. And there's also a group presentation that has to be 20 mins long at the end of the semester.
Possibly the worst professor at UT. This guy has an over inflated ego and loves to make fun of his students, and tries way too hard. His essays are critiqued harder than a thesis, and everyone averages C's on his exam. Beware this guy, he's not pleasant.
If you don't agree with him you're wrong. He is a fan of 15-page papers, over 100 question exams, no curves, just terrible class. He's not a bad person per say, just not the best professor UT has to offer.
He is just a complete mess. Everyday is different and some days he just doesn't feel like teaching. You will write a lot of essays about nothing and all study guides are over 100 questions. If you attend class you will learn nothing and you have to refer to the books for all answers.
Im not sure what people are talking about. Dr. Krahl is among the best professors I have ever seen. Clear, however he DOES NOT take slackers. Work hard, and an A is yours. Don't, and a C is yours. That simple. He does venture off topic from time to time, however he is EXTREMELY intelligent......listen to him.
He will make you work. If you show that you care, putting in work, he will help you further. He doesn't like to waste his time on students who do not care about his class. Exams can be easy, just make sure you partner up to divide the work. exams can be stressful 150-200 questions, but the study guide is the exam. If you study that you'll be ok.
Taking Dr. Krahl from Abnormal Criminality - absolutely amazing class and I now have a new favorite professor at UT. He isn't easy, but he isn't hard either. There are a lot of assignments and papers but they are short and clear-cut on how to do them. Tons of ways to keep a high grade in the class. Lectures are long, but his energy keeps it fun.
never take him. ever.
A LOT of reading, but the reading is interesting! His lectures are awesome. Sometimes he gets sidetracked, but that's okay. If you're an uber republican like I am, you might not like his VERY LIBERAL personality. If you're a liberal, you'll love him. He is a great professor (and advisor) nonetheless. YOU WILL LEARN SO MUCH!
Probably the best professor I have had thus far. I am a crim major and this man's class made me realize I am in the right field. Although his class can be tough at times he does it because he wants you to succeed as future criminologists. Really caring and wants to see everyone do well. Tests are difficult but often curves them.
If you go to class and at least try somewhat, you will do just fine in his class. He is very funny and his lectures aren't boring, but you do have to read the textbook to do well on his tests. He does assign a lot of papers but they are not hard, just tideous.
I was often frustrated in this class. The majority of material on the tests were not discussed in his lectures and he threw a fair amount of pop quizzes that shook everyone. Towards the end he started to give us study guides that basically gave most of the questions on the exams, but there were still always surprises. He's good to talk to 1 on 1
Krahl is honestly hilarious. HIs tests are kind of hard and when he lectures he tends to get off track but he's extremely helpful if he sees you are making the effort. Loved the class. The essays are easy A's. The pop quizzes are the worst part. The tests are 100 questions and he reuses quiz questions on the test.
The first day he said "out of a 10 out of 10 this class is a 12" and he was right. An excessive amount of reading every week. The study guides are the test so do them or regret it. As hard as this class is Dr. Krahl is legit a nice guy and a cool teacher. If you get behind GO AND MEET WITH HIM! I did and I am going to pass only because of that.
Honestly, he was a great professor and had some really funny stories. But he made his class insanely difficult for no reason. It felt like a graduate class with 3 textbooks, and really difficult tests. Everything is from the study guide, but he is still super picky. Stressed me out way too much for the semester.
One of my favorite professor at UT. Class is extremely hard and very paper heavy even though the class I took was not writing intensive. 2 reaction papers a week that take at-least 2 hours to do, pop quizzes, and the hardest tests ive taken at UT so far. He makes the class fun but if your not reading to eat breathe sleep his class dont take it.
Don't let the long paper in this course scare you, Dr. Krahl helps you through the entire process and is super easy to set up meetings with when needed. Study guides were provided for the tests and were pretty much the exact same as tests.
Dr. Krahl is an amazing professor. He makes class fun; however, he gives a lot of assignments. This is a writing-intensive course, but he goes overboard. He is a thought grader. As long as you actually give it 100% and do the work, you will be fine. Also, get reading for bot a group essay and group presentation.
One of the best crim professors at UT. he is super chill and cares about his student. The only con is the amount of work and how tough his tests are. This is a 400 level course, so it is expected. Be prepared to do lots of essays (a 25-page group essay), and really hard tests. If you don't actually prepare, you will not pass.
Dr. Krahl was one of my favorite professors. I took one of his 400 level class in the Spring of 2021. It was my second class with him. It was tough because of the amount of writing required; and the tests and group project were no joke, but still an amazing class. I believe he retired after that semester. Its too bad. He will be missed. Great guy!
Krahl was a great prof, He wont hesitate to help a student and makes the class set up great! he came out of retirement to teach one course of SOC 100 and did great. although the exams were difficult he made it so everyone succeeds
Dr. Krahl is a super knowledgable guy who always makes sure his students are doing well both inside and outside of school. The class is a lot of work so make sure to stay on top of assignments and come to class.
Dr. Krahl is an amazing person and I will forever cherish him. His class is just a lot of work and you really need to buckle down if you want to pass. He has book work, quizzes, and power points. It can get to be a lot real fast. He's wants his students to succeed, you just need to show him you are trying and ready to learn.
Here's the thing, he's a cool guy. Relatable and loves to tell cool stories. But his tests and workload are ridiculous. The tests are 125 questions, over 4 chapters each (over roughly 120 pages of the textbook) plus a 15 page group paper and pres AND an activity that takes about an hour each that goes with each chapter. Hard for a 100 level class.
The hardest tests ive ever taken. 200 questions. You need to know exact specifics. Khral is such a funny guy and his classes are not boring at all. However the tests basically ruin his class because of how hard they are. Team paper is also graded very heavy. He is a good teacher but not an easy A at all.
Dr. Krahl is a super nice and understanding man. If you need to miss class for a personal reason and you give him a heads up, chances are he will excuse your absence. He is a reasonable man and works with his students when deciding how much to weight items. However, his tests were nearly impossible. He lets you out early usually too!
This guy is wful. He is not understanding at all and only cares for 2 or 3 people in class. He attacks students for no reason and is just not a nice person. Not to mention his exams are 100+ questions and have nothing to do with his so called "study guides". He could care less about his students and his way of teaching shows that. DONT TAKE HIM
Dr Krahl was a good teacher though his lectures were long and sometimes off topic. He's a good guy and he cares about his students but makes his class seem very hard. He is lenient about due dates. I did good on the four tests because I would read the textbook and take my own notes. It took a while to study but it definitely pays off.
Lectures are heavy, but he is so interesting! He makes sure you are doing well in class and would literally make you do good. Such a nice and understanding guy!
Dr. Krahl has by far been one of the best teachers I have ever had. I got a 48/100 on his first exam and was so upset because I had studied completely different material. However, I started paying attention in class and putting effort into studying and received and 80 on the second and third exams. he goes out of his way to help if you ask him.
I loved sociology until I have him as professor. class lectures are nothing like the exams. 4 exams 100 questions each. not necessary. the exams are very hard and detailed
Very funny/nice guy, but its so hard to get a good grade in this 100 level class. 100-125 questions for every exam. The final exam the class AVERAGE was 56 and not one person got a 90. Just seems weird a professor wouldn't understand that if the whole class is continuously doing terrible on every test maybe the material/exam is just too difficult.
Prof Krahl seems more intimidating than he actually is, he is very kind and truly wants everyone to succeed. Exams are 100+ questions but are pretty straight forward and very similar to his review questions. The homework is straight from the textbook so its easy points. Loved his lectures and if you put in the effort you will be completely fine.
Krahl was a decent prof for SOC101, he wasn't the best but it could've been worse. get ready for 100+ question exams with no time at all to take it.
he was okay but not my favorite. his lectures were pretty long and attendance is mandatory. the tests were pretty hard and he's not super helpful outside of class. he's also kind of a tough grader
He really cares about students and wants you to do well. He tells you everything you need to study to do well on his tests. The tests however, are hard if you don't study. Your final is a group project that he gives you the entire semester to work, there is no in class time for it. Overall, he is very interesting and funny and a good professor.
I'm not finished with the semester yet, but had to write this review now. In a month you will do 4 (2hr long) reading quizzes, 2 (2 page long) essays, will take 6-8 quizzes AND work on huge group project. I have little to no time for myself bc this class. TOO MUCH HOMEWORK!! Went from excited to learn soc to absolutely dreading it. Good guy tho.
there is so much to do outside of the class. attendance is graded so you must show up to every class. I have all A's and for some reason it is a struggle for me to get a B in this class. you can study for hours for the test and still get a 60. overall, too much work and the tests are unnecessarily hard.
Krahl is very caring and tries to make class fun. HOWEVER he does not give tests and instead does "LMM'S" which are 15 minute 25 multiple choice questions through proctorio which totally tanked my grade. He moved it up to 20 minutes after seeing how many students complained abt the time. When you go above and beyond w essays he gives extra credit
Extremely tough grader. There is no late credit offered. If it's pass the deadline, it's automatically a zero. Everything is unnecessarily complicated. Things are not very clear on assignments. His lectures are useless. They're just taken straight out of the textbook. I email him for help sometimes and he is cold and rude in his responses.
Krahl is a passionate professor. He expects a lot from his students and there are so many assignments. Instead of big tests, he assigns mini tests on each chapter of the book and they're really difficult if you don't read the book. This class is not an easy A. You really have to work for it if you want it.
lectures were boring but he tried making them funny. tests were given proctored online for every chapter; these were extremely difficult and asked very specific information. if you dont read the book word for word you wont do good on them. the only other grades were inquizitives on the chapters and essays. says attendance isnt mandatory but it is.
I'm a good student, and little did I know that an INTRO class would be my most difficult class yet. It really shouldn't be this hard. Find another professor if you can
I truly do not think this professor deserves 5 stars. Not only is this intro level course extremely difficult and an intense amount of work but Krahl refuses to accept the fact it is. This man thinks his course is fair and it really is the farthest thing from it "Dr." Krahl assigns 6 papers, 16 online proctored exams and daily inquistives.
For an introduction class, the work was ridiculous. Beginning off the semester strong, our 49 page syllabus was introduced. Overall, if you did the assignments, you would expect to get a C. He provided unnecessary grading standards, expectations, and assignments for an introductory course.
I honestly think that the people who have given him bad reviews and got lower grades just didn't do the work. It's so easy to get an A in this class. There is online homework through inquisitive and it wasn't too bad. There are 4 essays and he is a very easy grader, even giving extra points for a few of them. The final is a presentation.
It is a lot of work. The inquisitive take a long time. The essays you can just bullshit them. He's nice but you need to study for his exams. His lectures don't really help or cover what's on the exam either. I have an A in class; however, I do find myself studying a lot for his exams. They are online though which makes it less stressful.
Dr. Krahl is super nice and he really cares about his students. His tests are hard and you really have to study to do well on them. The final in this class is a group presentation. Dr. Krahl is hilarious and ends class early often. He is truly a wonderful person and a great professor. I definitely recommend taking Dr. Krahl if you can!
Extremely work load heavy. Hardest class I've ever taken at UT. Everyone I know who's taken sociology has said it was easy, but this professor was nearly impossible to keep your grade above water. Doesn't have a final test but a 150 point 20 min presentation project. Which for this project, graded ruthlessly and said that no one cared and it showed
Not a fun class, attendance matters for your grade. Lectures were very boring and the exam study guide never matched the test.
Do yourself a favor and sit in the back, he calls on people randomly and there never seems to be a right answer. You can take the exams at home but there is so much unnecessary work and the lectures are boring. His stories are very interesting, to get a good grade on journal posts just write a lot.
Definitely not my favorite professor I have ever had. Being that this is an Intro class, you would assume that it is more laid back, but Dr. Krahl takes it far too seriously. The final is a 20 minute group presentation, which he lectures us about every single class, saying that we are not working hard enough. Literally has no mercy lol
He's a really nice and funny professor. He engages with the class very frequently and makes lectures interesting. Weekly homework is a journal post and an inquizitive assignment due Sunday night. Tests are online with proctorio and group presentation at the end of the semester. You will learn a lot from him and I really enjoyed his class Great prof
don't take him.
I love Dr. Krahl, nicest professor ever and genuinely cares about his students and LOVES what he teaches. Very understanding and actually tries to form a good working relationship with you. take his class he is the best
He is nice and has good stories. He lectures mostly and calls randomly on people but I didn't mind. There is a semester long group project, 20 minute presentation. Tests are online with proctorio and you can do 2 tests and take the other 2 tests as 4 quizzes. They are difficult and he asks statistic specific questions but they arent impossible.
Good Professor- you can really tell he is passionate about sociology and that he cares about his students. I would not recommend if you want to take this class just to fulfill a credit. He assigns way to much homework and his tests are very difficult.
Dr. Krahl is an amazing professor, he is hilarious and the work is easy. If you just do what you're supposed to you'll end with a good grade. He clearly cares about his student's success and wants them to do well. If you get the chance to take him, do it!
Dr. Krahl is a very nice guy and his class was interesting. However if you take this class with him, be prepared for LOTS of work (which he did warn at the beginning). He also is a tough grader and the final project/paper is assigned with many other assignments due around the same time. Nice guy but the most work I've had in a class by far.
Be prepared for a LOT of homework, especially for a Spartan Studies course. He does give study guides prior to exams that make the exams easy but there are 4-6 assignments per week in this class. He's a nice guy and will help you if you have questions, also takes interest in things you do around campus.
One of the best professors at UT. If you can choose his sections, go for it. He was very fun and interesting professor who always cared about us and always helped us with whatever he could. I wish I could take his class over and over and over.
A LOT of reading, very lecture heavy, about 6 assignments a week. He's unclear with what he wants for some assignments, then gives you a poor grade when it doesn't meet his unkown standards. What I've learned: write a lot. He loves reading and if you give a lot of content, you may be able to score extra points. Good person though
Attendance mandatory, a lot of reading, about 6 assignments due a week. Assignments were easy but took SO LONG. Unclear with his expectations, but gives a poor grade when his expectations aren't met. Seems nice but sometimes condescending. Get on his good side. Write a lot for each assignment; you can get extra points.
One of the hardest and worst professors I've ever had. Assigns way too much homework (that are reading intensive) and grades very harshly. Final project is a 20 page paper along with a presentation. Has 3 checkpoints, which are very challenging. Two are open answer and one is multiple choice. Read the textbook/go to class or not going to do well.
Speaks the whole class about literally nothing. The Hw is not hard just so much of it. He acts like were only taking his class and no other courses
Nice but don't recommend. 4-6 LONG WRITING assignments for a gen ed spartan class. HARD online tests. Averaged always 60s. Study guides felt like a waste of time. Attendance mandatory. Big group project that has way too much work and whatever you do, don't be team caption (too much is expected). TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR IF YOU CAN.
dont take this class for core social science. 4+ writing assignments due every week. group project that takes the whole semester, progress due every week. harsh grader but extra credit offered on every single assignment. HARD tests. study guides but they are useless. textbooks required. attendance manatatory. take another prof if possible
might be worst teacher at UT
Lectures are very long, boring, and often off topic. Insane amount of homework (3-6 writing assignments) every week for a Spartan Studies class.Tough grader but will give extra credit sometimes if you write a lot. Major tests over multiple chapters as expected but the study guide isn't that helpful. I HIGHLY encourage you to not take this class.
50+ long assignments. acts like this is your only class. attendance mandatory. LONGGGG outlines, pop quizzes. he starts nice in the beginning but this class only gets worse. group project progress due every week. dont recommend. WAYYYYYYYY too much work for a spartan study class
Actually, a horrible professor, he emails like he's talking to his divorced wife and treats you like you rely on this class for everything. Needs to learn the world doesn't revolve around him and his class. workload is too much for a gen ed class too, if you don't read anything he will punish you too. Not a chill guy at all.
he will make your life miserable. so much work for a spartan studies class. if you have him in your draft schedule reconsider
DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU WANT TO FAIL ALL YOUR OTHER CLASSES. YOU WILL HAVE NO TIME FOR ANY OTHER CLASS. WAY TO MUCH HOMEWORK .
Lots of work for a spartan studies class. He knowledgeable but THIS CLASS IS A LOT OF WORK. Exam averages were in low 60s. It is definitely not an easy class to balance: 55+ assignments ( 5 long writing assignments per week), random quizzes, 20 page minimum paper. Extra credit awarded on every single assignment if you submit early/write a lot. 3/10
just dont take this class as a spartan studies. hard exams and 5 writing assignments per week. take literally anything else. 0/10
I took UTCRM 255, and this was not an easy class. Exams are hard and not needed. He rambles for so long for no reason. There are speakers who come, and you have to do worksheets. Also, assignments every week. He offered tons of extra credit, though, so I was able to end with an A.
Professor Krahl graded very harshly, assigned 100 question "checkpoints" where class averages were in the 60s and he would lecture us to "do better". Assigned so much busy work that had no meaning and overall just made the class more difficult than necessary. He treated the course like it was a 400 level class, yet it was only a spartan study.
