such a nice guy! great prof
A really good and nice professor
Best teacher I've ever had. Teaches material very well and makes the lectures interesting by doing demonstrations in front of class. Test questions aren't easy, but go to his test reviews and he will practically tell you what will be on the test and he lets you use a notecard on the exam. Amazing teacher and a very helpful and nice person. Take him
Awesome teacher! Taught the material in a way that is easy to understand. If you go to class and put in effort it is very easy to make an A. Also go to his review sessions. He is also very helpful and very inspiring and loves what he teaches.
Great teacher like really great, very interesting only teacher currently teaching 1408 that you can pass under
worth the 8am.
Great teacher. Worth the 8am totally. online homework isn't that bad. better than lee and the other guy. attendance isn't mandatory but he does give random quizzes if there are a bunch of ppl missing.
Hilarious teacher, fun too. def. worth the 8am x3, wakes you up in the morning. online hw isnt that bad and neither are the tests. def. take this teacher if he is available
Fantastic teacher, whatever he teaches will be on the test nearly word for word, never use the textbook, hw is moderately difficult if you dont pay attention, definately take him for PHYS 1408
Easiest class I've ever taken. I missed quite a few times but still got an A in the class. No actual class grades. Just a lesson plan due at the end of the term.
Great teacher. Very fair and helpful. Definitely would take him again.
Supposed to be a calculus based physics but he didn't teach using calculus at all. Was a very easy and interesting class. He did a review before every exam and used examples that we did in class as exam questions. Fun and interesting. Definitely take him for 1408
extremely good teacher. I had Gagnon and got a D. With Lamp I got an A.
TAKE DR. LAMP FOR 1408! He will definitely be one of those professors that I will remember for the rest of my life. He is very sarcastic and funny so you honesty hate missing his classes. He gives great test reviews and the examples from class are basically what will be on your test. The class requires some studying but an A is well within reach.
Hands down, one of the best professors I have ever had the privilege of learning from. Dr. Lamp embodies the true essence of a teacher. Best of all, he truly cares that each student thoroughly learns the material and is able to apply concepts. Highly recommend.
Easiest and best physics prof
Lamp is great, straight-forward. Likes to make jokes in class, gets bored easily so he keeps it moving. When he reviews for exams he literally tells you what each question will be and what you need to solve for. Each test you're allowed a note-card and two for the final. Homework is online and really easy.
AMAZING! great guy, understands the pressures in college and does not expect his class to be only priority. Will even extend homework. BEST PROFESSOR AT TECH because he really cares about your success and wants you to pass. if you fail, your fault not his!!!
Awesome teacher but at times will digress into a topic that doesn't pertain to the lecture. Also I would study for every test, because the 3*5 note card that you get to use on the tests its going to compensate for studying, and make it your self dont be dumb and borrow a friends! Took his class spring 2013
He's not only the best physics professor out there, but ultimately the best professor at Tech. He's never too busy to help you with something you're confused with. Office hours are very helpful. The class was a lot of work for me (my first exam I made a 47) but I was able to make an A by doing well on the next few exams. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND LAMP!
Lamp is actually a horrible professor but everyone likes him because he makes his class incredibly easy. He tells you exactly what will be on the test question by question. He also allows you to have a note card with whatever you want to put on it so you don't have to memorize anything. It's an easy A but you wont learn a thing.
He is really good. He will give you a practice test before an exam, its the same questions on the exam too. He gives extensions on hw if you ask. Overall, the best professor I have had in college
Awesome guy and everybody always says his class is easy. This semester, I think he has tried to make his class harder because the A-rate from the past has been too high. He does let you use a notecard on tests and sends out previous exams, but you don't learn a whole lot from his class. It makes the tests tough if you haven't learned much.
Best astronomy professor at Tech hands down. Take his class you won't be disappointed.
Great teacher that really cares about his students. Very interested in the subject, and loves to teach it. If you show effort Dr. Lamp will work with you. One of the best teachers I've had at Tech.
Great guy. Great teacher. He cares about his students.
Examples he does in class are exactly what is on the test. He allows you to use a note card for each test.
Lamp is amazing. His tests aren't too easy to were you walk in and pass and they aren't too tough to were you study 2 months and barely make a C. He is very clear as to what you need to pass his class and give precise information.
He isn't clear. We have no idea what will be on the tests. There are only three tests. That is are only grade. My class's average for the tests was in the 50s and he curved it all the way to a b. Expect to get a c in the class.
Lamp is a great professor. He's the best to take for Phys 1. He has tons of office hours, responds to all emails, and allows extensions on the homework. He allows you to bring a notecard to the tests and tells you what each problem would be. I definitely recommend him.
Dr. Lamp is in my opinion, the best professor in the physics department. He goes above and beyond in class by bringing examples and even brought liquid nitrogen one day! He structures his notes very well in class and writes each equation out with each example. He reviews before a test and gives sample questions that are basically the same with dif.
He is really there for you! Went from an F to a B with hard work and help from him! He does really cool demos in lecture, get to know him and he helps you out
My favorite professor thusfar at Texas Tech. He really cares about his students, and does a great job teaching.
Lamp is a funny guy and a great teacher. he works through every problem with you on the board and if you have a question he respectfully answers it(not making you feel dumb). Take good notes and go to class and you should do perfectly fine.
Solid professor. Had him for spring 2015 and i can confirm you will not get another professor like him. Take him if you have the opportunity.
His exams are always identical to the previous exams and you are allowed a note card for the exams. Do your WebAssign homework, don't skip lab or discussion and you will get an A!
An amazing professor. One of the best at Tech.
As long as you take notes over all the lectures and write down all the equations he puts up on the board you will get As on the tests because he lets you use a notecard. You are also given the topic of each question on the test beforehand. Funny guy, didn't make the lectures boring. Show up, takes notes, and you will pass for sure!
Overall great guy, great professor.
Great professor. Be sure to do the homework, which is harder than the test, and you should be fine. Goes over what will be on the test. He really wants you to succeed.
Dr. Lamp is one of the best physics professors at Tech! He's super funny and you can tell he really knows what he's talking about. Gives a clear outline of what will be on every exam and let's you use a notecard on them.
Dr. Lamp is the best Physics professor at Tech! He's funny, speaks fluent english and overall a great teacher! Test problems come directly from notes and SI sessions so take good notes and go to SI sessions if you want to make an A. Overall the class is not to hard if you are good at algebra and have common sense.
Dr. Lamp is fantastic! He lectures mainly by walking through example problems which is super helpful. The class is never boring and he always has cool T-shirts. He loves Physics and talking about his grand kids but he is hilarious. He tells you exactly what will be on the tests and lets you fill out a note card with formulas/notes. 10/10 Dude.
You will definitely need to study the notes he gives in class. However, most of the test questions are similar to the ones on the test. He even lets you use a notecard on exams. His test can still be pretty difficult but he will answer any questions you have. Only physics 1 professor's class I would take. The rest are bad
He is a good professor he talks clearly and will answer your questions in class. Show up to class and take notes you will pass your exams. The homework is done on webassign he will extend it. Lets you use 1 notecard per exam and 2 on final. Go to the SI before each exam.
amazing teacher made the class very fun for a subject that is etremely hard. made me love the science behind all the examples he gaves. he knows that the subject is hard so everything in the class is worth 10 percent and has 6 exams including the final lab and recitation like i said all worth 10 percent
Great professor. He really is the most solid choice for this course. His examples can get repetitive but it come in handy when studying for tests. You will never go into a test not knowing what will be on it. The only people that struggled are the ones that didn't show up.
Basically, show up and take notes you will do fine. He gives you exactly what the test questions will be before the test and all tests are multiple choice. If you don't do well, it's because you didn't show up or BS'd the HW. It's basic physics, nothing out of the blue here.
Easiest class. Show up and you're guaranteed an A. Recycles the test each semester.
Professor lamp is awesome! In class you do problems that will be on the test and he is great at explaining how he got his answers. Has helpful SI sessions before tests and he drops your lowest test grade. AWESOME! (Also only like 5 problems of homework a week)
Highly recommend! He taught everything so that you could actually understand. I kinda struggled with having 6 tests, but they really helped. I have friends who had a different professor and they told me about how much they were struggling. Lamp is definitely one of the best.
You have no excuse not to get an A in this class. You get a notecard for every test. Go to the SI review session and they will give the exact equation for 90% of the test. those are just plug and chug questions. Usually only 1 or 2 questions you wont have exact equations for.
Lamp is a great professor. He makes all the test so he lets you know what questions are going to be on the test. He also gives examples of the test questions. Just make sure you take good notes and study before each test. You are also allowed posted cards for the test.
Best professor to take Physics with. He understands it is a hard subject so the class is designed less stressful than the others. If you have the choice take it with him.
Once you understand his methods, this class is fun. He tells you what is on the test, so the only thing you are responsible for is practicing problems.
Homework was not relevant to any of the material in class. He goes over the example problems that are on the test EXACTLY, minus numbers. He lets you use a notecard on each test and two on the final. WRITE THE IMPORTANT EQUATIONS TO EACH PROBLEM ON YOUR NOTECARD AND YOU'LL DO JUST FINE!!! SI also helps find those equations as well.
The class is more difficult than it used to be because the amount of tests are cut in half (6 to 3) so the tests cover more material. lets you use a notecard on your tests, go to the SI sessions and you can get a lot of shortcut equations for the first two exams. Hes funny and he teaches a hard subject well, but its not necessarily an easy class
Professor Lamp is a good teacher for Physics 1. Attending the SI Sessions before a test definitely will help you PASS!! His lectures are funny but sometimes he can get a little off topic, which I'm not complaining about. He gives you unlimited tries on online Homework and post all his notes online that he teaches in class.
Lamp loves his job & it shows he goes slow so everyone can do good, breaks the lecture with jokes, his practice tests are very helpful for studying if you never miss a lecture and bring your note card full of formulas this class should be a breezy (if you are math and sci inclined) I skipped a lot and still did good make sure to study hard for test
Absolutely hilarious professor. Exams are worth 80% in total, so don't wing them. He is very clear about what is on the test though and lets you bring a note card to each midterm and two note cards for the final. There were about 300 students in the class I was in, but he made lectures feel so much smaller.
Amazing professor that really cares about his job. Posts past exams online that are almost exactly like the ones you will take in class, just having different numbers. The online homework is time consuming, and has almost nothing to do with what is going on in class or what will be on the test. Overall an easy class if you look over past exams.
He's a really nice guy and puts in a lot of effort to make the class fun. Be careful with your exam answers, because they're multiple choice so there isn't any partial credit. This is a great professor to take if you want to enjoy physics.
This class will make you really work for an A, but a B is definitely in the cards for most people, show up everyday, you won't be bored with his teaching style. Great professor and a good guy, may drift off topic sometimes but every example he works will be on the test, so write down everything
Dr. Lamp is an amazing professor! He made physics enjoyable. There are five exams but all are multiple choice.
Absolute gem of a professor. If you have the option of taking him, do it immediately. He is very passionate in making sure that all of his students understand the course material and is very easy to approach when you have difficulties. He always makes his lectures fun and enjoyable. One of the best professors at this university.
Hands down best professor at Texas Tech. Lectures are fun and entertaining. Not even a PHYS major but would love for him to continue to be my prof.
Please protect this man at all costs!! Hands down the BEST professor i've had at TTU, PLEASE take him if you're considering taking PHYS 1408. His exams are fairly graded, multiple choice, and are almost identical to the past exams he has on blackboard for you to go over. SUPER CARING!! He'll work with you and any concerns you might have.
His lectures are very engaging and he is always willing to answer any questions a student may have. You can tell he truly cares for his students and wants us to succeed in our academic pursuits. I would absolutely take classes with him again!
Professor Lamp is one of the best professors here at Tech! Physics is a very hard class in general but taking it with him was one of the best decisions. Although his lectures eventually do get boring, he tries to keep his students involved and genuinely cares. You have a good amount of homework but nothing excessive and his tests are doable.
Dr. Lamp is a super caring guy, and I enjoy his lectures by a lot. As someone who is bad at physics, he made the class really easy for me because he taught the class in a simple and straightforward manner. Highly recommend for your first cal based physics class.
I hardly ever went to class and got an A. Go to the class before the test and he will tell you which questions will be on the test. Find the questions on the old tests or notes he puts on BB. Then derive the equation before and write in on your notecard. The test is then an easy A.
Best science based proffesor i have had so far, 10/10. All around funny as hell, and get rasdy for puns and insults. He makes fun of the croud but in a caring matter, gets really good when someone roats him back. DO NOT USE THE BATHROMM DURING HIS LECTURE.
If you want a easy class take Prof. Lamp. Gives a bit of hw but nothing too bad and he is flexible on due dates. Lets you use a flashcard for every test. Test reviews are really similar to the actual test. Likes to rant a lot and talk about his family or his past but he is pretty funny, always wears funny tshirts. Overall easy and enjoyable class
Professor Lamp is an amazing professor. He covers everything you need during class and bases his exams over previous ones and reviews over them too so people would understand them throughly. He's also understanding since he extends homework deadlines if you need them and gives flashcards for the exam with a reason behind it too.
Professor Lamp is awesome. He gave us the exams from last year and it really helps you study for the exam bc they are almost identical. Great teacher overall
I have never rated a professor before but Professor Lamp is special, so i just had to get the word out there. If you are like me and hate physics, you must take Professor Lamp he is going to do everything possible for you to understand the material, you don't need a book, and the exams are related to the reviews. Professor Lamp has to be the best.
Dr. David Lamp was very entertaining, he was helpful and I didn't mind going to class. If you had questions in class, he was happy to answer them, and the practice exams were so helpful they got me through the class with ease. Great professor, would recommend him to everyone I know!
He does a lot of tests, but they are simple and exactly the same as the review so there are no curve balls. He is an amazing person and helped me out the entire time. He really cares about what he does and teaching students. He is probably the best professor I will ever have.
Best physic prof there is
Overall great professor
He is such a gem! I had him during the spring and he made Physics one of my safety classes. It was the lab that gave me the most the trouble due to distanced learning and online labs. But easy A!
Professor Lamp is one of the best Physics I professors at TTU. He has study guides for tests and his lecture notes are very helpful when studying for exams. The amount of homework given is reasonable, but the majority of your grade is exams. As long as you use the study guides/notes to prepare for exams youll do well in this course.
best physics professor for this phys 1
Amazing professor. His lectures are always fun and interesting. He has a lot of knowledge on the subject, which shows in his lectures. Exams are a breeze as long as you do the review and go to class. Homework can be difficult, but he is always easy to contact for help. Overall, the best professor I have had here.
Never saw this guy but my TA was an angel. He explained things clearly and made going to lab fun.
The man is simply the best physics teacher at tech. Was lenient with me when it was reasonable and I ended up learning much more because of it. Definitely one of the best teachers at tech.
His lectures are fun and his explanations make sense. He wants people to succeed and curves exams if performance is below expected.
For Phy 1408 he is the best.
Just take him.
Greatest teacher ever. He understands what it is like to be a college student and is super lenient and communicative. Treat tests as important and be sure to attend every single lab. The main reason why I got a C- is that I didn't do either. Do those two things at least, and you are set. Also, he drops the lowest exam grade, so keep that in mind.
Easy to understand, but hard to remember.
I really enjoyed his lectures, he knew how to keep us engaged with his various stories and tied them back into our learning curriculum. His exams are very similar to the practice exams he gives out. If I could take his class again, I would in a heartbeat. Great professor! I will definitely miss his class!
