Very challenging, well-versed and educated professor. He gives excellent notes and his tests and quizzes are fair--tough on papers, though.
Very intelligent. Re: papers--content and English must be perfect...I think he may have been an English prof. in a past life. Great challenge, but well worth it.
Hard grader. Essay portion of test is pure regurgitation. Grammar must be perfect in papers, very nitpicky. Impossible to get A's on his papers. Very knowledgable, thought-provoking, class is fun.

Dave is the most thorough professor I've ever had. He is always willing to help on papers.
Dave is awesome. He is very thorough and clear in his lectures, and very, very knowledgeable. He makes class interesting and is very enthusiastic. The tests are pretty easy if you study hard and know the study guide. Papers are a tough, he is picky with grammar and wording.

SO VERY SMART! He is tough but fair, is really helpful with assignemnts, and respects students who put forth effort in class and out of class
New Testament with Dr. Landry has been fantastic. There a few class discussions, but his lectures are so engaging and informative that the lack of class discussion doesn't bother me. He knows his subject matter very well and is upfront with expectations.
He's a hard grader...you have to read every night for the pop-quizzes. Tests are laid out clearly, but very hard. Almost impossible to get an A on a paper. I worked REALLY hard, and got a B+ in the class. He won't give out an A overall, willingly. A decent class overall.
I've heard people say he's creepy, but I don't get that at all. CRAZY knowledgeable, good sense of humor, makes awesome pastries (before we all went on a field trip). Very understanding, but is pretty particular in his paper grading... I don't know about tests.

Best class I've had at UST...I didn't even want to take a theo class and now I practically want to major in it. You have to work hard to get a good grade, but you will learn a TON, and he makes it really interesting!!
You will need to do the reading and work at the class. He was very knowledgeable and encouraged questions.
Great prof, probably one of the best I've had so far. There was nothing I hated more than Theology before I had his class, though I'm still not too thrilled by it, I definately enjoy his class time and his lectures. Very clear, extremely intelligent, funny guy. I liked him and his class and learned a ton; I recommend.
Dr. Landry is THE MAN! Period. ...And probably the smartest person on planet earth.
WARNING: Conservatives do not take this class! Probably one of the worst professors I've had at St. Thomas. He constantly brings up politics and Iraq in daily discussions and if you don't agree with his viewpoint he will fail you. I graduated with a 3.6 average and managed to almost flunk his class because he's a left wing cook-coo. STAY AWAY!
goes off on random tangents all the time. tough grader on papers. spends alot of class time babbling..
AMAZING GUY. Probably the smartest professor here at St. Thomas. His lectures are intersting and make you want to explore theology deeper. His tests can be hard for those who dont study or pay attention. He is a great guy who explains everything very closely and no he is not an atheist. His papers are really tough so watch out. Loved this Professor
Prof. Landry is a pretty cool guy, he tries to make class interesting...which hard to do during a j-term in theology. Overall he is pretty esay if you do the work, has random quizes but test are easy if you study. Only thing that was bad was the papers im a bad writter but i got Bs on both of them. take him if you want to a lil work
Dr. Landry knows a lot about the New Testament. He is a good teacher. Sporadic quizzes, a couple papers, and two very well-written tests made up the course. Highly anti-Catholic though. Doesn't speak of the Church very well.
amazing professor. hard to tell if hes catholic or not, but he knows EVERYTHING! hilarious and fun to listen to, and he makes class interesting. hard tests that require a lot of studying, but quizzes are short and easy and the papers arent too bad. easily one of the best teachers at UST and i recommend this class to anyone!!!
TAKE THIS CLASS! Landry is a great professor who knows what he is talking about! Makes class interesting and makes you want to learn. Go to class, take good notes, study for the tests and participate to do well in his class. Best prof I have had at UST
Okay, first of all I will say he is a fair Professor. The guy is good at what he does. His lectures are fair, test are somewhat hard so you need to study alot, hes VERY technical on the papers or hey just probably mine. But he is wacked! If you are a bible loving christian, this is the class for you! But atheists dont go there. Not worth it.
Landry is a very intelligent prof. He knows what he is talking about. He hypes up his exams to be more than they actually are. Study your notes and the study guide he gives you. Also take good notes in class you should be fine. 2 exams (55% of grade), 2 papers, 10
Best note giver, Extremely clear, Very intelligent. Had Dr. Landry for J-Term, and I was engaged the whole 3 hours/day. Teaches without bias. Quizzes are easy - do the reading. Tests are based on notes. Best Theo teacher so far.
SICK SICK SICK minded. But very SMART. AND MANIPULATIVE. I WANTED TO SMACK HIS FAT HEAD EVRYTIME I SAW HIM, DUDE is pretty good at his job. NOT A GOOD PERSON THOUGH.
EXTREMELY engaging lectures. He will never dismiss a question you have.. even if it raises a pretty controversial topic. Hes always asking tough questions and making lecture enjoyable. Tests are pretty tough but virtual mirror images of the notes.. so take good notes and study those and you will be golden. Quizes are a breeze.
awesome prof! Attendance is mandatory, and there are a lot of notes, but he's completely thorough with everything! study guides before exams. - exams are somewhat difficult - mostly multiple choice, some free response. 3 tests, weekly pop quizzes over the readings, and 2 papers. Very funny as well! I'd recommend him to anyone.
Very bias and anti-catholic. Not afraid to question christian beliefs. Good note and lecture giver. Solid study guides. Highly recommended. Easy and informative.
Landry is very smart and can be funny at times, but he is not an easy prof. He papers and tests are doable but study VERY VERY hard for them. He asks nit picky details on tests so study your notes carefully-they'll be what you need to do well on the exams. 2 papers 2 exams and 10 quizzes, and final is not cumulative.
As long as you agree with him he is a nice prof, but he often says that the majority of scholars believe "x", but in actuality he is of the minority position. I wouldn't recommend disagreeing with him, because he believes his view is the only one that counts. Overall I wouldn't recommend this class.
Dr. Landry is very smart. He can answer almost any question you have. His lectures are very engaging. Rarely used any other text than the bible, but you have to do the readings because he gives reading quizzes. His tests are challenging but if you do the study guide you'll be fine. I found his class easy but I had a lot of previous bible knowledge.
This class is interesting. If you don't have a lot of previous knowledge it could be challenging. Dr. Landry is really smart but has very liberal opinions about this bible and Jesus. Do the readings. Participate. He is a HARD grader, know everything.
If you are looking for an easy class do NOT take this! I have to drop the class because he expects so much out of students. Especially for me, who did not attend a catholic high shcool like many other students. I grew up going to church and I still found it nearly impossible. He is a very smart man but a very hard teacher.
Dr Landry is an amazing teacher. I learned so much from him. If you are used to easy classes you might find his class difficult, his tests are unbelievably thorough. Participate in class, take great notes and bring a draft of your paper in for him to look at before it's due and you can easily get an A. He is definitely one of the best profs at UST. He's a really smart guy and if you get the chance to take him you're lucky because you will learn a lot.
One of the best college profs I have ever had. He demands a lot from his students and the volume of reading for his one class can be overwhelming, but his expectations are clear on how to get a decent grade. Hooever, if you want to learn a lot, take his classes. If you want an easy A, A-, or B+, he is not your guy at all.
Found that he was very opinionated and if you disagree with him, it is very difficult to do well. Unless you are a liberal Christian, either keep your mouth shut or expect to be targeted/shot down.
I took Dr. Landry for a seminar....AVOID. He is a harsh grader for no reason except he does not want to give an A. He is liberal and close minded. Ironically, participation was mandatory but out of everyone he talked the most. He definately has his favorites and will make snide comments after a student talks. If you are conservative stay away!
I have nothing but positive things to say about Professor Landry. After three different theology courses, his was my favorite. His class isn't easy, but if you pay attention, ask good questions and take time to study you'll do well.
He's a fair prof. If you pay attention, do the readings and study guides you're fine. He's very opinionated, liberal, anti-Catholic, closed-minded, and convinced his opinion is fact. If you're Catholic or conservative and willing to sit through heresy and liberal classes, go for it. I don't recommend him if you can't handle attacks on your beliefs.
Great prof. Idk why people are saying he's heretical. I mean, he's liberal but far from heretical. He won't 'shoot down' your beliefs because you are Catholic. He knew I was Catholic and loved me and called on me all the time. He's a brilliant professor, very helpful, easy quizzes. Take this course but be prepared for class.
Best theo prof ever!! I had no interest in taking theology, but he actually made it interesting. He tried to relate to the students and is pretty funny. If you show up, take notes, and even read half your homework you should at least get a b -
Best Professor ever!!!!!
I heard many good things about Dr. Landry before heading into this class and unfortunately I was unable to find any one of these traits. He dominated class discussion and unless you have a PhD in Theology, dissent will not be tolerated. I thought he was rather rude to many students. Just be prepared you will either love him or hate him.
One of the best professors I have had at St. Thomas. Yes, he is close minded but he is willing to listen to any student's say in class. He made the subject very clear and I always felt confident before taking his tests which were easy as long as you took notes. He offers office hours to correct your papers too, which was helpful.
One of the best THEO profs you can have. You can do very well in this class as long as you go to class. The notes he writes on the board are perfection and they are the best way to study for the tests. He has 2 papers make sure you have him read them over his comments are so helpful. He makes class very interesting.
I am very disappointed by Dr. Landry. I feel that he often allows his opinions to cloud his judgment of student's performance. If you agree with him, you'll do fine, but if you don't, stay quiet or be prepared to suffer for it. Found him to be condescending and rude. Would not recommend although I've had friends who have loved him.
Landry is awkwardly funny. Although I didn't do very well in his class, I learned a lot and he always kept it interesting. He loves using real-world examples.
Landry was a great prof. I had no desire to take this class, but I ended up spending a lot of time on the course material simply because it was so interesting. He is very good at facilitating in class debate, and it makes the class much more fun. Highly recommended!
He loves what he does and knows what he is talking about. Very entertaining and is good at relating to college students. Attendance is not necessary but all of his notes are written in class on the board.. So if you want to do well get the notes!
Very smart guy but full of himself and disrespects students as a whole. Incredibly hard grader on the semester paper, which isn't a surprise since it's the only big thing. Don't bother trying to disagree with him. He'll shoot you down and you'll be on his bad side. 10 short papers and quizzes. His east coast personality comes out a lot
Professor Landry is a wonderful Professor. If you show up to class and listen to his lectures you will find that he not only knows a lot about the material but has passion. His lectures are straight forward and he writes everything out on the board. It is important to read the material before you come to class because the quizzes are surprise.
This professor is somewhat nice but he says he gives you an incentive to participate but even if you do that you won't get any help. Also, his test are hard. Also, we fell behind in class a lot probably 2 weeks behind but that didn't matter to him we still got tested on it. Terrible professor do not take if you don't have too.
Dr. Landry is RUDE at times & definitely has his favorites. He's a tough grader and his big tests are hard. I wasn't done with my midterm (was the last one to finish) and he got up, got his things and left me there. I literally had to chase him down to give him my test! He says he wants to give everyone an A, but honestly it didn't seem like it.
He comes off as rude and doesn't really try to get a long with the students. He's a very tough grader and expects so much from you. You have to write 2 pg papers weekly and it is almost impossible to get a 10 on them! Do the reading because he does surprise quizzes. If you miss them, you'll get a bad grade in the class! Attendance is mandatory!!!!!
Very smart human and he knows it. You certainly aren't required to be friendly or nice or anything like that and he'll think this is just being from the midwest (he thinks he's super tough being from the east coast) but man this guy is a jerk. No humility and maybe one of the most painful professors to talk to.
Dr. Landry isn't that difficult of a professor. He explains everything that you need to know for exams on the board and in discussion. There are readings that have pop quiz potential (around 10). 6 short 1-2 page papers. Very clear what he wants. If you take notes and do the reading you should have an a or b no problem.
good, clear teacher. Don't argue with him and you'll get a good grade. HE actually made the subject interesting too, which was nice. He knows his stuff
He is a great good professor. He knows his stuff and is good about answering questions. I had him for J-Term so it was a 3 hour class, he made the class interesting and easy to follow along. He writes everything you need to know on the board and basically recites the textbook (that he wrote). Still read the text book because there are quizzes.
Pretty straight forward guy. Makes lessons feel like a history class, which I liked! Writes all of the notes you need on the board. Tests are multiple choice and some short answer/essays. If you take good notes and pay attention, you will do well in his class. Very smart guy who seems to know just about everything about the Bible
Do the readings for the quizzes, follow the outlines on his short papers, and write down everything on the board and what you think will be important and you will do good in the class. Great teacher.
Dr. "Dave" Landry gives you precisely what he expects from you, and as long as you come to class, participate a little, and actually try on your papers, there is no reason you won't get an A. Hilarious lecture and keeps you engaged the whole time. One of the best professors I have taken. Easily can understand how he won Teacher of the Year TWICE.
I LOVED Dr. Landry. He's a hilarious guy and makes lectures interesting. Definitely recommend him and wish I was able to take him for my final theology class!
Landry is very passionate about his teaching but loves to hear himself talk. Told us if we argue for points back on a test he will not give them to us. Very distinct east coast personality, full of himself, tries to use examples but makes them awkward and uncomfortable
So Dr. Landry was a really good prof and I enjoyed the class. However, you can clearly tell that he has certain biases. Consistent anti-Catholic themes in the class. He gives you a biased and one sided view against some Catholic beliefs. Definitely needed to do a lot of filtering but the way he runs the class was awesome.
He is very smart but condescending and hot headed. He makes A students feel stupid even though it's his own fault for giving a million stupid tedious papers. You could have great reasoning to an open ended question but he docks points if you don't have exactly his line of answers. Never would I recommend him. For a gen ed he is excessive. :(
Landry is a great guy and a theo prof that isnt drinking the kool-aid when it comes to catholic bias. He is a huge stickler on his papers, but if you participate in class that will more than make up for it in your grade. His tests are straightforward and he gives a great study guide to use. Great prof for anyone just trying to knock out the req.
While Landry can come across as pretty arrogant, hes an awesome lecturer. If you pay attention, do the readings and papers on time youll do great. There is a lot of note taking, but its incredibly beneficial - especially for tests, and gives great study guides. He does ask for a lot of participation, but doesnt leave mug time to respond.
Landry is extremely disrespectful to students and creates a very uncomfortable learning environment. He constantly makes unnecessary and inappropriate remarks. He does not take the time to listen to students and does not seem to care about any learning.
Landry has taught this class for probably 30 years and really knows his stuff. He requires quite a bit of reading with about 10 easy pop quizzes (if you did the reading). He's an awesome lecturer who makes the material interesting with real life examples. Take notes on what he writes and says and you'll be good for tests. Kind of tough paper grader
Dr. Landry was very rude and arrogant. He has no time for students, and he does not allow students to ask questions outside of class, otherwise he threatens to not boost your grade at the end of the semester. He walked out on the class once because he got angry with us, and he makes remarks that make class very uncomfortable.
If the class has the name "testament" in it, do not take it. David is a nice enough man but he can be rather condescending and arrogant. The class itself is not very hard but you need to know every detail of every short answer on the test. However, the study guides are straightforward enough. Also, he gives you extra credit based on participation.
Landry was one of the smartest professors I have ever taken. If you show up listen and follow directions you should get a good grade. He has a great sense of humor and makes lectures very interesting.
The subject of the class is incredibly fascinating and enjoyable to learn about. Landry is so-so as a professor, and is not the most courteous person. He comes off as arrogant and can be rude with his feedback on papers. The feedback is not very helpful, and more or less just his vague thoughts on what he thinks you should do.
Dr. Landry is intelligent yet comical in his approach to teaching. Theology and Mass Media has a lot of reading but so does any other course. He has in class quizzes about the readings so you need to show up, 5 minutes late and you miss the quiz. People give him a bad rep but he is seriously wonderful. 10/10 recommend his classes (:
Anyone who rated Professor Landry poorly is likely not very intelligent. He is probably the most knowledgeable professor that I have ever had. THEO450 was by far the most interesting class I have taken at UST, and his insight and lectures were wonderful. Not easy, but worth it. I would have paid double for this class.
An awesome professor that has been through a lot in life. He is one of the most knowledgeable professors I have had. You can ask about anything theo related and he knows the answer. Love him! Take him, you won't regret it!
I thought Dr. Landry was great, he has very clear grading criteria and the tests are mostly multiple-choice and not hard if you study for them (provides a study guide with everything you need to know). Just make sure to come to class as there are 10 random pop quizzes based on assigned readings and if you miss those they add up.
By far my favorite professor so far! Hes clear and concise in his lectures, and the material is pretty easy to remember. Quizzes after every reading but they are REALLY easy if you do the reading. I would definitely take any class of his again.
You need to read the text assigned for the quizzes. The multiple choice on the tests are not that hard but the short answer ones will get ya. He is a pretty nice guy and I liked him as a person. It takes a bout 3 emails to get ahold of him. Make sure to participate in class. Do a rough draft of your paper and send to him. Grades the papers hard.
Very long and boring lectures. A lot of papers and tests that many people did not know what was happenning.
Very good person and cares about his students. Grades tough on essays and gives nonspecific comments, so it is difficult to improve. He gives you all the resources to succeed.
I have taken a lot of Theology classes, since I went to a Catholic high school as well. I am not very religious and it has always been something I have do. This was the first theology class I have ever actually enjoyed. Dr. Landry teaches a wonderful class and makes in enjoyable for people who are not religious as well. 10/10 recommend Theo224/450.
Good proffesor
Took Theo100 in Rome, Landry was one of the professors and he was great! He made it easy to study the material and is a very smart professor who knows what he is talking about. He was helpful, and really easy to talk to! Highly recommend Dr. Landry, and get to know him he is a cool guy!
Dave is awesome he cares about theology so much and wants to spread his passion. His class is very interesting and participating in his class is very important! We had 4 exams including the final and 3 paper that were very interesting and not too long. This class is great and Dr.Landry make theology so interesting.
I genuinely enjoyed class with Dr. Landry. He makes personal connections with his students and actually cares about us. He is very enjoyable and I love his class so much. I was worried about taking theology because I don't know anything about the bible, but the way he lectures makes it very clear and easy to understand.
Assigned readings that are highly recommended that you do, if you complete them the class will be easier. Dr. Landry is good professor who is passionate about what he is teaching, and has many good jokes in his lectures.
Great prof. He lectures based off of questions from the readings. However, you do not need to read all of them. he is super inspiring and gives good feedback on papers!
Amazing professor who has great lectures who will talk about whatever you show interest in, as long as it relates to the class. Prepares you well for the tests and gives you practice tests beforehand. Want's you to succeed and is funny!
He grades very strict and his feedback is unclear. Seems everyone gets the same grade and his participation grade is questionable.
Dr. Landry was a great professor who made going to class fun. His lectures were informing and he did a great job at using examples.
The class was easy—do the reading, prepare for pop quizzes, and use study guides. However, Landry often attacked Christianity with refuted Bart Ehrman-like arguments, seeming either ignorant or intentionally misleading. It felt like he aimed to weaken Christian faith and affirm the pseudo intellectuals who so desperately want Christianity gone.
Dr. Landry is incredibly organized and transparent with his expectations of you. All information is gone over slowly and clearly and reviewed when necessary. He does take a very non-religious and critical approach to the Bible, which might rub you the wrong way if you're an established Christian with strong beliefs about the faith. Good prof though
Great prof who makes theology interesting. Prepares you well for tests, but reading the textbook is optional. unstuckstudy was really helpful for studying on my own.
Overall a very good professor! I have never been interested in Theology, but he made the class fun, and encouraged me to want to learn more. A few papers and tests, and many pop quizzes. However, the quizzes are not hard if you have done the reading. Attendance and participation are not mandatory, but if you do these then he will bump your grade.
