Mr Lane is one of the most outstanding teachers you could have for a Philosophy class, he is so hysterical that the time really flies in his class... besides being a brilliant man, he doesn't present himself as being superior than any of his students.

Absolutely the best professor I've had. Encourages students to think for themselves, and loves a good argument! Also incredibly good-looking! Lots of interesting books, not textbooks in this class.

I took class with him almost 15 years ago, and still remember what a great professor he was. Clear, entertaining, super helpful, never lords it over his students, and good-looking to boot. The time would just fly, and I never missed a class!

I took his online class and his layout is straight fwd. There is alot of reading and I almost dropped this class b4 the final because I couldnt finish all of it. But I stuck in it and he gave me a B when I prob should have gotten a C/D.

He is one of my favorite teachers.He has a different and unique teaching style.Doesn't go by textbook material, you are assigned to read 11 books which are really interesting.This class gave me a diff.perspective of looking at things/at the world.he's a great teacher, and looks good...take him.

Took his online class. A lot of readings and writings. Very clear instructions. Very efficient in grading: do not take as long as many other teachers. Very fair in grading too. You reap what you sow. He appreciates whatever extra effort you put into your work.

Very fun class, very fun and engaging professor. ALOT of reading!! When I took it, the syllabus had 15 books, with a few 500-700 page monsters. But the diversity of views in the books keeps the class fresh. Not a Greek philosphy fanboy.

Professor Lane requires more books than any teacher i have ever taken ever! He seems tilted towards a science approach to philosophy. He is also very critical of metaphysics and things of a religion nature. He's cute thogh for an older guy.

Prof Lane has responded to every question I have mailed to him within a day, sometimes within hours. His website is gigantic and he even posts his own books online for free for poor students like myself to access-it is true that certain religious zealots don't like his approach.

I took the Phil5 online course. There was a lot of reading but if you do all the work and just get into it, its not that hard. The topics were new to me so that is the one thing that made it a bit difficult but I got an A. My tip is, just do all the work and pace yourself. Hes cool.

I took this Spring 07 8 weeks online. There was ALOT of reading but it definitely opened my mind up to the philosophy that was new out there. Pretty interesting. You have to put in time and effort but if you do, it is worth it and you will get an A.

I don't know what people are talking about the huge homework load. There was barely any homework. You did posts online and he says your suppose to do 7 a week. Haha, I did like 8 posts total for the entire semester. the only work was midterm and final, and that was easy. I got an A in the class. Dave is a brilliant man and fascinating.

You get the midterm and the final from Day one. While it's a ton of work, you can resubmit them for a better grade as many times as you want. He wants you to learn the material, first and foremost. The first half is physics and theory intensive, but he will take the time, in and out of class, to make sure you understand. Top notch Prof. Highly rec.

Very intense course. As a Christian I was challenged but as the Professor stated at our meeting critical thinking is about questioning all authority and then looking for the best evidence for a position. I took phil 15 too with him. A very understanding and lovable teacher. His perspective on teaching and view points are nothing like any teacher I've ever had. His style of teaching is refreshing but he gives a lot of reading to do outside of class. He has no tests other than the midterm and final which he goes over with you in class.

TONS of information that is really interesting. Nice guy, laid back attitude, however, do not mistake this for complete leniency on the grading. Make sure you keep up on your reading, no books to buy...all online, so it's useful to have a computer super handy. Professor Lane is REALLY funny. He tells you a ton of stories in his lectures that relates to the topic of the day. He has A TOOOOOON of reading. Around 50-200 pages a week. (He's a bibliophile) And he really loves the idea of putting all of your work online. If you're up for it, make sure you like to read!!

The reading went from a do-able 12-20 pages to 100 + pages! It was by far not an easy class! The class lectures were intersting but the midterm and final were brutal! A lot of work! Put in the time and you will pass! He also gives multiple attempts to midterm and final!

This clas I took online not on campus. I must say you should be computer friendly, because you are required to create a website, it was pretty intense. But the class was very mind blowing to say the least. If you have a chance to take the course on campus I would because the experience And personal stories, very insightful.

I am not very good at taking online classes but I thought I would give it one more shot by taking Professor Lane's Phil 5 course . I must say I enjoyed every bit of it . He is very helpful . He answers quesions if you do not understand certain subjects . This class gave me a good challenge mental wise . take if you enjoy sociology and philosophy .

Definitely a class for someone who is highly motivated and needs no "push". There is a lot of reading involved that can be a bit dense and extensive. There are weekly posts that must be completed along with a midterm and final. You must put forth effort for an A. Professor Lane is very helpful and does all he can so you will pass this class.

No textbook needed. Basically, for this class, you just listen to Professor Lane talk. His homework, midterm, and final are all online. His work is a bit overwhelming but in the end, it was a very easy class.

This has been my favorite class in the past four years of attending mount sac, citrus college, and Moreno valley college. This teacher is incredibly insightful and ingenious. Willing to go above and beyond for all of his students.

Gotta love Lane. He's very progressive about education. Everything is online. Pro tip: if you really want to impress him MAKE something out of what you learned other than just a boring written paper, he wants you to do something with what you learn rather than just regurgitate it as an essay. Just finished Professor David Lane's Philosophy course and found it quite stimulating. Not typical, since he uses films to help augment the required readings which ranged from a book on Socrates to a book on quantum physics. He was very helpful and responded quickly to every question. Highly recommended.

Prof. Lane is a great teacher, even when taking the online courses. I took it over the 6 week winter term and got an A. You have 6 paragrpahs to write that must consist of at least 500 words on the topic he gives. 3 of the paragraphs are due for the midterm and the other 3 are the final. Just do these and he will let you resubmit if needed. Take.

I took this as a 6 week online course. Never read so much in my life. The great thing is that all the reading is available online free (6-7 books and tons of articles). Mid term and Final are killer you better understand what you are reading. Very respectful of students beliefs.

I took Lane's online course and it was both insightful and straightforward. Simply read everything and you will pass. There are about 10 small 100 page books(all FREE online) and use textual evidence to answers his questions.

Lane is a great professsor and has a pretty different way of teaching. He'll let you retake midterms until you get the grade you want and give you the final months in advance so you can work on it right away. I had Professor Lane for Winter intersession at Mt. Sac and at first I was so angry with the fact that by midterms I was told I had a C+. However, this teacher wants you to actually learn! I ended up using examples from the readings for my midterm and answering all the questions well and ended up getting an A! Great class if you love a challenge!

Superb Professor who really desires us to do well in the course. Provides all of the materials for free, including original films and books. Considerate and caring. This was my first online class and I didn't quite know what to expect. I was happy that all the readings were in PDF and audio, as I learn better when reading off a screen and adore listening to novels. Lots of reading and some of it I didn't understand but I liked the films that went with them. Highly recommend!

I was really excited based on the reviews, but the books he provides for reading are almost all his own work and very clearly try to persuade to a specific belief. Seems pretty biased and one sided. I would have liked to get different perspectives. Couldn't quite get passed that. But he is very nice and wants students to pass.

In all honesty I didnt do my mid term but I did do my final and still got an A. He truly cares about his students and wants everyone to pass with an A. He doesnt give a lot of assignments ... and he usually tells stories. Good professor overall!

Prof. Lane is a nice teacher, he responds quickly to emails and willing to help if you need it. He provides a very good amount of extra credit in case some of your assignments are not up to par. He really explores all the sides of different issues in his class, and the videos he makes are really interesting and they help to get the lessons across. He also responded very quickly to emails.

I took him for Phil 5 and could not wait to take him for Phil 9. There is a lot of flexibility on what you can write about. Both classes have opened my eyes up to so much that we as individuals do not think about. It really shocked me I am glad I took this class with such an amazing man. Take this you will not be disappointed!

Professor Lane is the type of professor that aims to teach and inspire his students rather than just lecturing and grading. you will feel that personal touch, he will always give advice and encourage students. His lectures are interesting, the class was super easy and fun.

David makes you think outside the box, he really cares about every single student, takes the time to get to know you. Offers PDFs for books, it was nice talking to someone about bigger ideas.

I took Mr. Lanes Philosophy class that past semester and I may say this has been by far my favorite class. I enjoyed each of his lectures. At first I was kind of skeptical about this class but then I started to understand and think outside the box. If I had any questions, he was quick to answer and each session he made it worth going.

It doesn't feel like you're in a classroom, it feels like you're going on an intellectual adventure! I would only be wary if you're taking other writing classes like ENG1C. This class can become difficult in conjunction.

Extremely accessible by email. I wrote him several times and Prof Lane responded within minutes. Lots of interesting readings, though much of it is related to science. I loved the quantum section and the VR stuff. Highly recommend. Got an A.

He's an amazing professor with a lot of talent and experience behind him. This is my second time taking his class and even online I can tell his passion. Only two major assignment due the entire semester with weekly short questions which makes his class extremely easy. I wish I could grade him higher.

I was initially scared to take his course cause I am bad at philosophy in general. However, as long as you put in the effort to the work and he sees it, you will be fine don't worry. I got an A for all of my essays and he basically tosses out extra credit every week that I did not even do due to the sheer easiness of this course. Take it!

Took his PHIL 9H and PHIL 5 class. I got a B in the rest of my courses except 2 As from Prof Lane class haha. Easiest professor no quiz I love. My GPA is saved thanks to him for real. Professor David Lane is very nice! You do not need to do any quizzes. There are a midterm and a final exam, you just need to answer each question in detail. There is no exact due date, you just need to send your link to the website to him via email twice a semester. Every week you can do the extra credit. I have done all the extra credit and got A!

I took Phi 5 and Phil 9H and both classes were really easy. Its mainly reading material, YouTube vids, and writing essays. The essays you write in his classes are way less stressful than an English class because he cares more about the critical thinking content than the actual essay format. Also the class is very interesting. Would 100% recommend.

There is no way you could fail this class! Took him during a 6 week semester so there was A LOT of reading to do so make time for that. The class was pretty straightforward. Writing essays is my least favorite thing to do but if I passed so can you. Do yourself a favor and take him!

There is no deadline for submitting assignments every week. You only need to email him a website that you made at midterm and final.

A lot of reading and writing but he is not a hard grader! You'll have to create your own google site and have all your work on there. He didn't use canvas at all during the spring semester. You only submit the midterm and final to him and he'll respond within 48 hours with your grade.

Class is compromised of watching YouTube videos, online readings, and audiobooks for the essay prompts. All material is written/co-authored by the Professor. Nice guy, but a bit biased and dare I say-pretentious in his perspectives/views. A lot of the concepts are heavily scientific-not exactly the easiest material to grasp. Easy A w/ enough effort

I took this class for half a semester for Fall 2022 so the workload was overwhelming at some points but it was manageable! Lots of reading, lots of Youtube vids to watch, lots of writing but Professor is an easy/understandable grader. Just put effort and time into it and it'll be fine. Interesting class that made me go in awe sometimes

This class was a lot to manage for an 8 week period but as long as you read/watch the important bits and put effort into writing then you'll be okay. It's one of those subjects that really requires thinking and sometimes it'll shock you in astonishment. It got really stressful at times but that was when I'd procrastinate. Prof was an easy grader

David has become more or less a father figure or a close uncle to me. He is very enthusiastic about the future of VR and tech in general. The class is based on readings and completing projects using our assigned headsets. The whole class was very comforting. If it weren't for this class, I would have fallen into immense and unimaginable depression.

Light weekly workload - about 1-2 essay questions (150 words each) based on the assigned readings/short films. Loved the self-pacing, work is all turned in before the midterm then again by the final test. Only challenging part was the midterm/final which you should start as early as possible on - not hard but a lot of work. (8 week course).

This class was good and the weekly assignments aren't too bad. The only thing I find was hard were the midterms and finals because those took a REALLY long time so start doing it ASAP. Overall, I liked this class and Professor Lane responds super fast to your emails. Your work also won't be graded until midterms and finals but DON'T procrastinate.

I took his class online and while I do think this class was easy, it WAS SO TIME CONSUMING. If you have a lot of work with other classes, DONT TAKE HIM. I was fortunate to take Professor Lane's VR philosophy course. It was a blast and he made sure that we got lots of free apps. My favorite was Walkabout Golf where we would meet up for his office hours and play competively while he asked us about our latest projects and life and philosophy. I only wish I could kept the headset! Very caring.

Soc of Rel was not a typical class since all the readings are free as PDFS and there is a ton of extra credit. I like how the prof uses audio books for his classes as well. It makes the readings easier. Overall eye-opening course. Would I recommend? Yes!

I was deciding between English 1C and Phil9, and I am glad I decided on Phil9 since the professor gave us the chance to improve our papers as many times as needed. I also liked that there were lots of extra credit options. I didn't expect it to be so much about science, AI, and the future. But it was cool all the same. Recommended.

Lane was a pretty enjoyable person. He isn't your typical "take notes in class" teacher, but he was super engaging. There is a lot of reading, so be prepared. Homework is mostly reading with SAQs, which he will send back to you to resubmit if it isn't your best work, which essentially means he won't fail you if you actually try. Good communication!

A lot of reading and writing but it is manageable. He is a pretty easy grader. If you want A then I suggest you to do most of the extra credit. A lot of students use AI for their essay (even in the part where prof asked you not to) but I think prof does not really care..? But overall enjoyable.

Very interesting material covered in his online PHIL 5H class. Unfortunately, he makes you write more than 20000 words in total of essays in this condensed 8-week course. He also doesn't make grading clear, but it appears that he is very lenient. Cool class, weird structure, difficult workload.

Clearly one of the smartest Professors I have ever had in my entire educational career. He is very funny, and quite helpful in making sure that students, like myself, excel and get a high grade. The Best!!!

it is an "easy" class but is also a "hard" class in the notion that there is SO MUCH work; don't procrastinate and start on those paragraphs/essays early. final and midterm (included approx 13 - 20 questions i think) included AI which was fun. weekly workload was 2-4 essays about 300-500 words each. responds fast to emails.

There was a lot of reading and writing but professor Lane was so helpful. The lectures are interesting and you are able to be creative and think outside the box to answer questions. He also offers extra credit readings that you are able to do to boost your grade, overall I enjoyed the class and think he is a great professor

I took professor Lanes class about 7 years ago. I went on to get my BS at Berkeley (in philosophy) and JD at Hastings. This class at Mt Sac, with Professor Lane is still the best class I've taken. He is creative and underrated. I had taken every class he offered and hope everyone takes advantage of him!

I took his class last semester on campus. So funny...made me laugh. Also learned so much. I am a better thinker and person because of Lane's class. Would take again for sure! Loved his AI knowledge and how he inspires us. Do yourself a favor and take him.

I took this Prof online since I heard all the readings were free and that he also was a fair grader. I liked how he gave us options on the readings and the essay responses. I got an A, but worked hard and learned much. I recommend him. It was an excellent online course.

I was lucky to be in Prof Dave Lane's VR course where we were given free virtual reality headsets for the semester. He makes the class so fun and so inviting. We learned much philosophy without endless debates. He is really tech ready and I recommend taking him, No regrets!

The course requires lots of writing, but it is doable, especially since the assignments are tailored to ideas that are interesting, Heavy on science, though, so be prepared to think critically. Very responsive on emails. Wish I took it in person as I heard from others that his lectures are good.

I know if I say "Professor David is the best professor I have ever had", it sounds old-fashioned, but HE IS the best professor I have ever had! Very compassionate, kind, and generous. He gave students so many books for free. Gave students money for joining and winning a mission. Even provides the Meta to us! Follow his order, you will get A.

Took an 8-week course with Mr. Lane. It was sometimes difficult understanding concepts though since philosophy is really thought provoking but hey, it pays off. I believe in you! He was also really nice and welcoming in any questions that I had about the course! I do appreciate the time and dedication he has as a philosophy professor! :)

great talker, and really into AI/technology. all of class time is taken up by him talking (typically lets you out much earlier than scheduled) but shares really interesting ideas. if you prefer to learn about phil the traditional way, don't take him, but he really opens your mind about topics you dont think about often. its a super easy course.

I have never had a prof like Dr Lane. He is so filled with enthusiasm that it rubbed off on me even when I was sleepy. So glad I took him for philosophy. He made it come alive. My fav teacher. Must take.
