Easy A. You dont even have to write down any notes to pass his online class. Just use his review notes that give you a hint on what to expect on the test/quizzes. Hes one of those professors that makes the answers straightforward, sometimes the answer is in front of your own eyes or even in the question.
Absolutely love Dr. Laude! He's the funniest professor and such a great professor! His lectures are very engaging and I love being in class. Material is very straight forward and the class structure is very clear from the start. Highly recommend!
What can I say- great professor! He's a great teacher and he gives you TONS of resources to do well. 3% added onto your average for teaching a friend about chemistry and for joining a club. Most people get A's and if you put in a little bit of time/effort, you'll get one for sure
Dr. Laude is THE best chem 301 professor. The class is easy as long as you do the modules, study for quizzes(which he gives reviews for) and the tests(which also come with reviews) are manageable since he teaches the material well. Go to office hours and academic communities. They help immensely! You are luck if you get Dr. Laude
He is amazing!! Go to his office hours. His notecard method really helped me. He is hard but wants the best for his students
Dr. Laude has a very specific teaching style, he provides resources outside of class that make it very easy to learn topics on your own. If you do not utilize the resources before class that he provides his lectures will be confusing. His TAs are very helpful. There are daily in class quizzes but if you're keeping up with the work you'll be fine
Laude is a Cool professor. His tests are very easy and the daily quizzes kinda force you to learn all the information. His TAs are super approachable and there is extra credit available. Although learning modules are not that helpful , his lectures are if you pay attention !
I struggled with chemistry in high school, but Dr. Laude's class did an excellent job in establishing the foundation I needed. Before ANYTHING ELSE, study the 20 question-types for exams, and then move onto other content (Friday videos are helpful!). He's really caring, and unlike many other professors, actually makes chemistry understandable.
I got a 2 on my AP chem test and ended with an A in this class! Laude doesn't necessarily make chemistry easy but he tells us what to study for his exams/quizzes. These happen to be really important topics so I do feel like I learned a lot:-) he's also very helpful and wants you to succeed so don't be afraid to go to office hours!
TAKE HIM FOR CH 301. I did really well in the beginning and started to slack off whihc affected my grade in the end. Be on top of your game. Test are super easy fi you study for them the way he tells you to. To do good in the daily quizzes, attend TA/Laude office hours the day before and they will teach exactly what you need to know.
Dr. Laude truly cares for his students!! Office hours/ reviews and the TAs are very helpful. The question type guides and the grading schemes/extra credit make an A feasible. I struggled w/ content, but quizzes, office hours, lecture, and really studying modules/ notes BEFORE lecture helps you to actually learn content/ get the grade!
To keep it simple, Professor Laude is the best the University of Texas at Austin has to offer. You know that, youre reading now to find something that might sound different from the other responses. & here it is: You get what you put in. Easy course with effort not easy course with no effort. He gives extra credit in the end, youre lucky if ugethim!
Its an absolute honor to have had Professor Laude for CH301. Everyone who doesn't have him, wants him. He gives lots of opportunities to make up your grades, and he also gives extra credit at the end of the semester. Laude changed my perspective on chemistry as a whole because he genuinely wants his students to learn and do well. An actual legend.
There wasnt much of any learning learning. Definitely choose the other prof if you have the chance/option. I took this class online. Either way in his class or online, Ive heard the same reviews. Truly dont learn that much. Hes ehh. Nothing horrible to say, but nothing excellent to say.
Laude is an incredibly fair professor. He gives you lecture notes that basically tell you what will be on the exam. Gives modules and quizzes every class but drops many of ur lowest. Has MANY great TAs with many hours in the week. He really wants all his students to be successful and it's nice to know that :)
Great teacher! Makes everything easy to understand and helps students retain knowledge. Dr. Laude wants success for his students and offers a plethora of tools and resources to prepare for exams and supplemental material for enrichment.
Dr. Laude is amazing and has been super accommodating given my circumstances. Definitely cares for his students. Show up to lecture every day to take the quiz, go to his review sessions, utilize the hell out of the Exam Preparation tab on canvas, and you're bound to get a good grade
Laude is GREAT! He truly wants students to succeed and was incredibly accommodating. TAs were INCREDIBLE. Exams are very straightforward/ fair (based on question types he provides); LOTS of extra credit and final can replace course grade. You do gain what you put in wrt actually learning the content deeply outside of getting a grade. TAKE HIM!!
The other reviews say what I wanted to say. As someone who failed AP Chem, Dr. Laude made my chemistry experience a whole lot better. TAKE HIM!!!!
Like all the ratings- Laude is an amazing professor. If you study the way he tells you you will get an A. To do good on the quizzez attend TA Office hours the day before each quiz. The best way to study for the exam is to watch the friday review video and go thorugh its review packet. Do the practice exam in his book; very similar to exams.
Hands down, the best. The true homie of Chem 1 and 2. If you're lucky enough to get his class, consider yourself blessed. For tests, study the review notes (don't really need much else). A lot of people say he doesn't prepare you for o chem, but they're actually jealous they don't have him. He gives you everything you need to succeed.
Hands down the best professor. You will love him and this class. Consider yourself so lucky to get Laude!!
He literally made me love and appreciate chemistry! His lecture are engaging and straightforward. He wants you to succeed in his class and his goal is for you to get an A in the class the review notes provided are very resourceful and straightforward. Use the review notes, and not textbook/YouTube.
Dr. Laude is a great professor that makes learning chemistry easy and fun by making lectures full of experiments and hilarious quips. The modules and quizzes are easy if you do them, however, the lab conclusions can be pretty tough.
Dr. Laudes lectures are extremely unhelpful, however you should go because there are quizzes everyday. The quizzes are not bad but the downside is for the entire class you have to teach yourself. I usually left lecture more confused, the material that he provides outside of class is good but you do have to study for about three hours every night
Just dont do it, if you actually want to learn chem pick a different teacher. This class is practically self taught and youll notice other Professors students will have a much better understanding of chem than you after this. This class is just a class on how to do math without a calculator
I got a five on the AP chem exam and this class is as terrible, Dr Laude uses very specific techniques that are not for everyone. Take another professor
Laude is an amazing professor, and he makes chem very interesting and manageable! There is a quiz at the end of every lecture, so you need to go. His review materials are great and if you understand the test review he makes, you will do well on the exam! Laude's a fun and caring guy who really loves chemistry, and the class was pretty easy overall
I personally think his teaching style is very visually oriented. He uses his TA's a lot to represent strong acids/bases, and he sometimes performs experiments so we can see reactions take place. If you are not a conceptual or visual learner, take someone else.
This class was NOT self-taught! His TAs were amazing, and he taught/emphasized everything you needed to know for the test. Couldn't relate to my other friends taking other profs hating chem. Going to TA and his OH/discussion is all you need. His SundayPM test reviews >> I didn't study much outside of class except for practice problems before tests.
As long as you do the 20 questions, you can pass the class. If you do the review quiz notes, you will pass the class. He has a quiz every class but kinda goes over what is one the quiz so pay attention.
If you take him for Chem 301, then for Chem 302 it is exactly the same. His structure for both classes was the same.
Literally the worst professor that I have had at UT his teaching style is very specific He lectures with lots of stand up demonstrations by students that are disorganized and make no sense its basically a class on learning calculator free math. If you take his class your friends with other teachers will definitely know more about chem than you.
Literally the worst. He is like that fun teacher in high school that everyone wants because you just sit in class and do nothing. But the issue is youre actually expected to learn. He is known as the easy teacher but his teaching style is non existent. Other teachers are way better and have better drops and tests.
It's pretty difficult to not get an A in this class. He does a great job teaching the material, but it's kind of up to you how much chemistry you want to master.
Dr. Laude and his TA team were fantastic this semester. The class was online-based, quizzes almost every class at the end, module homework at the beginning of every unit, and 4 big exams. Overall, he teaches very straightforward and the class is very supportive. I highly recommend him and am taking him for CH302! :)
I took Dr. Laude for my UGS requirement and he was an amazing teacher. He has clear expectations and wants to see everyone succeed. His philosophy is that anyone can make an A , so as long as you work hard and do the essays and projects, you'll love this class.
Dr. Laude is the best professor I have ever had. His motto is that everyone should earn an A and he teaches us tools to be able to do it. There is 16 quizzes (4 dropped), 26 learning modules (6 dropped-super easy and helpful btw), and 4 exams. The final is optional and you can even replace your cumulative grade with it. Not super easy but doable.
Dr. Laude really cares about his students success in his course, and truly wants all of them to leave with a greater understanding of and appreciation for chemistry. Many will say that his class is an easy A, and they are true to an extent, but you must put in the work, take good notes, and study hard!
Dr. Laude is a legend. He will help you through chemistry and try to make sure that you understand it his TA team (except Enrique) are always there to help. If you have the opportunity to take Laude take Laude!
BEST CHEM PROFESSOER EVER!!! He ALWAYS has office hours (including the TAs) and they're super beneficial. His class made me love chemistry even more than before and I'm so glad I took it. The course material can be rigorous but is very doable and straightforward. If you have him for CH301 do not worry, just try your best and good luck :)
Dr Laude is a brilliant and amazing chem professor! he isn't too hard with the assigned workload but does expect students to work hard outside of class (or in office hours) to succeed in his class & get good grades. he's nice about exams & has quizzes almost every class. he is also very caring and teaches chem well imo. i definitely recommend him!
REVIEW FOR HIS UGS COURSE!!!!! (not his chem course) IMO, the class was too much work for a freshman year elective UGS course just take something else. the workload was too much & the mandatory attendance for 2 hour zoom blocks was absurd. it's a good course for prepping for FRI but otherwise i don't recommend it. He's nice but the workload wasn't
You mostly learn through online modules, which are decent. He assigns a lot of them, tho. He reviews right before quizzes so theyre pretty easy. Also he gives ton of review material for every quiz and exam so studying is made easy.
Laude is a solid choice if you took AP Chem. His class is organized and well structured, and he's a sweet guy. However, he does not teach well. His lectures are unhelpful and fast, but the practice questions are good. I taught myself and went to TA OH's for the majority of my learning. Easy A if you can self-teach and have prior chem knowledge.
UGS303 Workload heavy for freshman course but it's very helpful. Bit overwhelming at times but UGTAs were the best! Work is designed to help you prepare and sharpen skills needed in the future. Good class for academic / personal growth & friendships. There were papers, projects, presentations, & group meetings. Do your best & you get an A, worth it
The best chem prof at UT!!! Chemistry is really hard for me but Laude explained very well and over and over until we got it. He really cares for his students too and had one on one meetings with all the students who wanted advice on studying and those who scored too low. He has really dry humor too which makes lectures entertaining
Easiest course I've taken. Dr. Laude makes it so easy to get an A if that's all you want. HE LITERALLY TELLS YOU WHAT'S ON THE QUIZZES AND TESTS. The LA's are the nicest people in the world and go over the quizzes/tests. That being said, if you actually wanna learn Chemistry, then you should probably take someone else. Otherwise, enjoy your free A.
Dr Laude is great. Makes chemistry easy to understand and without all the fluff. its a hard course if you dont go to office hours! They review all material of quizzes and exams in office hours. He wants you to get an A, if you can study for it! Pretty easy class, some work has to be done, great guy! no calculators, so its a good prep for MCAT.
I'm seriously considering taking more chem classes after taking his class. He is an amazing professor who really wants to help you learn and gives you all the tools you need to succeed. If you're taking a chem class and he is one of your options, you'd better make sure you get into his class.
best Chem professor ever. If you go to office hours youre almost guaranteed an A. Dr. Laude makes chemistry so much easier to understand and really cares about the success of his students. Lecture can get boring online but his sense of humor keeps the course fun.
Such a great professor and person! Dr. Laude really cares for his students and wants to make sure they succeed. If you pay attention during lectures, study the exam preparation materials, and go to office hours, you will 100% get an A in the course.
Dave Laude is the most caring professor you will ever have. When someone does poor on an exam he will take the time to meet with you and give you tips on how to do better on the next exam. He is very understanding and gives you the info you need to pass opposed to letting you guess what you need to study. More than a professor; he is a genuine dude
Take Dr. Laude for CH301 and CH302 he was amazing!! If you take notes over the learning modules and take advantage of all of the studying tools/sessions he and the TAs provide getting an A in the course will be pretty attainable! Dr. Laude's office hours before the exams definitely help too!
Though this class was online, youll be lucky to get him. Extremely fair professor, wants you to succeed and gives you all the resources you need to. Best chemistry professor easily.
Dr. Laude is so fun and caring. I would definitely recommend his class. There are quizzes every class day, but they're very manageable. He always goes over the quiz beginning of the class. His exams are like the quizzes, just a little harder and more specific. His TA's are also super helpful.
I love Dr. Laude!! He's enthusiastic and genuinely cares about his students. He prepares you very well for quizzes and exams, which are fair and predictable. Best professor I've had at UT so far!
Dr. Laude is definitely the best General Chemistry professor of UT! I learned a lot in his class, unlike what some of the other reviews are saying. You just have to make sure to understand and not memorize. Try to get into his class whenever it's open or if you have reservation. Make sure you attend office hours for tests and quizzes.
Dr. Laude is the best chemistry professor at UT! He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Before any test or quiz, go to either Laude's or his TA's office hours. They prepare you well for it! Laude also gives a lot of practice questions and practice exams. Use the resources he provides you, and you will do just fine! Good luck!
I had Dr. Laude for CH301 and CH302 and his classes were an easy A. His lectures were a good review but most (if not all) of the learning is done through the modules he posts on Canvas and office hours. For the tests and quizzes he gives a packet explaining every type of question that is going to be on his exams so there are no surprises.
this was definitely harder than 301 (im looking at you acid base chem) but laude made sure to offer as much helpful materials and resources as he could to help us succeed. if you put the work in, attend office hours hosted by any of his amazing tas or him himself, go over the test review sessions and sheets, you will get an A. he also offered EC
A great professor and an easy A Dr. Laude was great for 302 and 301. He was always clear and fair in all of his grading practices. Now did I learn the chemistry I needed to? Who knows....
Took Dr. Laude's class for the first time for CH302. He is an AMAZING professor and holds many office hours, which are very very useful to attend. Instapoll questions helped a lot with the quizzes. CH302 was definitely more difficult than CH301, but an A was manageable in his class. Take Dr. Laude's class if you get the chance!
2nd semester taking Laude and he does not miss. He is one of my favorite professors by far and is an excellent choice for gen chem! He is very quiz and test heavy and these exams can be hard but he gives you the material to prep for his exams and is very understanding as well. Please do not listen to the negative comments people may say about him!
I love this class. Dr. Laude is fun and entertaining in his lectures and he makes the tests and quizzes extremely fair. You will know exactly what to study for and will have plenty of resources to do well in this class.
He is the best gen chem teacher out there. He really imprinted going to OFFICE HOUR in my head. Take him !
Dr. Laude is a good professor, its a lot of self teach and studying. Theres a quiz every class and modules before class. You have to work hard, but he wants you to succeed.
I've never met a professor who wants their students to succeed as much as Dr. Laude. He gives you many opportunities to improve your grades. The quizzes every class help me learn the material in detail over time. You still have to work for an A. Laude's lectures are engaging and make learning enjoyable. His TA's are super helpful.
Man's a real gem. Highly recommend going to office hours because he goes over the quiz and test material (and similar questions) in them. He's also hilarious without trying and explains all those confusing chem concepts in a super easy-to-understand way.
As someone who really struggled with Chemistry in high-school and at the onset of this course, I 100% recommend taking Laude! Not only does he give you exactly what you need to pass (his canvas is really well-organized), you can make up two exams at the end of the semester. He does teach math with no calculator and is big on estimation. LOVE LAUDE!
Weird teaching structure, especially since theres a quiz every class day. Would not recommend to anybody
Dr. Laude was amazing and I highly recommend taking his class. There's one quiz each lecture- the quizzes should be easy if you actually pay attention in class. He also gives us a lot of extra credit and a makeup exam. Laude is passionate about chem and he teaches the course thoroughly. He tells us exactly what will be on each exam and how to study
Dr. Laude is one of the best professors here at UT. Really cares about his students and makes it a big point for us to really learn rather than stress about grades. Class material was hard, but Laude gives every opportunity to get an A in the class, (lots of extra credit and can retake exams at the end of the semester.) Cannot recommend him enough!
Clear expectations and instructions for passing are laid out at the beginning of the course. Offers exam retakes. You will pass if you put in the effort and Dr. Laude is more concerned with making sure you know the material than he is with grading you strictly. Amazing guy :)
Dr. Laude is the absolute best Chemistry professor at UT Austin. Grades depend on daily quizzes (which is easy because he went over the Instapoll, which is very similar to the quiz), tests (25 questions, open notes, open for 24hr & can be taken at home), and a fun group project (basically a guaranteed 100 if you be a good member). Love him!!
Dr. Laude is an amazing chem teacher. He makes lectures very entertaining & gives you literally EVERYTHING you need to succeed. You just need to put the work in to study the material and you'll do just fine!! getting a good grade in this class is very, very achievable. highly highly recommend
So many papers. Taught with Dr. Lang. If you do all the work and meet minimum requirements, its a guaranteed A from Dr. Laude. Hes a great guy and super understanding. Nothing has a strict deadline if you ask for an extension. A lot of work but GUARANTEED A.
Dr. Laude is a caring and passionate professor who wants his students to succeed. Here is a tip: study! If you study and do what he asks of you, you will get your A in the course.
Literally the best professor I've ever had. I didn't expect to do well given my poor chemistry background, but he is an amazing lecturer who was able to cater to students of all backgrounds.
Laude is fantastic! He wants every student to get an A, and about 90% do because os his preparations quizzes at the end of every class and the 4 unit exams. There are so many office hours and fun demonstrations in class. He is the best Chem 301 professor!
He is a good professor to have. He clearly loves chemistry and always wants to help his students succeed. Make sure you use all of the sources that he provides, if you skip them and not study for the tests, you will not pass.
Dr. Laude has 4 exams and quizzes after each lecture that determine your grade. His lectures are very thorough, and there are so many resources. The best resources are the practice exams released before every exam. The TA OHs are also really helpful. Dr. Laude genuinely cares about his student's success and offers a retake for two of the exams.
Excellent professor honestly wouldnt mind if he was my father. Thank you god
Laude is a wonderful professor. His lectures are engaging and towards the end, he does Instapolls regarding the day's quiz. They really do prepare you for the exam and guarantee you to get an A. The TAs are really helpful and they're very thorough when helping explain to you the material until you understand it so be sure to go to office hours!
Considering it is an elective, it is ALOT of writing!! If you are a naturally skilled writer getting the A is easy; if you struggle be prepared to rewrite the research papers. The class is long and attendance is mandatory, but I was able to make some amazing friends, which is one of the objectives of the course's layout as Laude mentions. Loved it.
laude has a unique teaching style that helps you learn the necessary material in an effecient and straightforward way. the TAs are amazing and GO TO OFFICE HOURS. they are a game changer and he explains concepts more thoroughly there and you can ask questions more freely. try your best to go to his but the TAs are just as amazing. love him!!
Love this man! TAs are great. Plenty of study materials for the weekly quizzes, TA are amazing. As long as you study, do the modules, and go to the TA's office hours when you need help, you should be able to understand the material. Some topics are hard but very doable if you just put in effort.
Dr. Laude is the BEST prof I've ever had at UT. Grades based on daily quizzes ( which is very easy because he went over the Instapoll which is similar to the quizzes) and tests (25 MC questions and can be taken online). He does offer re-test and lots of extra credit. TAKE HIM!!!
Dr. Laude is awesome!! Lectures are super entertaining (acts stuff out, cool explosions, interrupts himself to tell jokes), but they're also very informational. Dr. Laude genuinely cares about his students and gives all the material you need to succeed. Utilize his online resources, they're super helpful! Laude is the best! Take this class!
Take Laude if you want a more chill chemistry professor. His class still requires hard work, with lots of quizzes given, but is very doable if you put in the effort. I believe most people in his class get an A. I'd definitely recommend going to the office hours, especially the review sessions before the exam, which are extremely helpful!
Take Laude's class if you have the chance. Going into this class, I had little chem knowledge from high school, but Laude formats his class in a way where he teaches you everything you need to know to get an A. All the material you need for tests are nicely combined into a study guide and as long as you study that, you should be good.
Dr. Laude is very engaging and bases the class on learning the actual content rather than trying to get a good grade. His lectures were so fun and he makes the material seem easy. You will have to put some effort in to get the grade you want though.
I loved Dr. Laude so much. He is by far the best chemistry professor I have ever had and I recommend him to literally everyone. If you have the opportunity to have him for class, DO IT!!!! You won't regret it.
dr laude is the best professor ever he is so kind and really cares about his students. he makes a hard topic like chemistry easy and so fun to learn. he gives you many chances to improve your grade in his class and really wants his students to succeed. i wish that there were more professors like him at UT!
Dr. Laude is the goat! He's very entertaining, and honestly encouraged me to actually learn chemistry. He has 2 replacement exams which are optional (which I will be doing due to missing 1 exam)- and he explodes stuff in class :) He also reads poetry to us for fun sometimes.
Dr. Laude is the best! He wants the best for his students, and he provides all the resources necessary to do well in the class. It's a lot of self-study, but his class is genuinely so rewarding. Put in the work, and an A is yours. The TAs are also super helpful and explain everything really well. Laude has weekly quizzes but there are so many drops
Take Dr. Laude! He is the most kind and informative lecturer ever. There are 4 exams which determine most of your grade, along with 19 quizzes (5 are dropped). He literally tells you all of the questions on the exam and how they'll be worded. If that's not enough, he allows 2 replacement exams instead of a final at the end of the year.
You cannot go wrong with Dr. Laude. From day one he makes it clear that everyone is capable of getting an A. He provides loads of supplementary material that outlines exactly what you need to know. 4 tests, ~20 quizzes, and pre-lecture modules make up your grade. Assignments are designed to ensure your success, and his lectures are engaging.
Take Dr. Laude! His criteria is clearly lined out from the very first day, and he really does give everyone the resources they need to make an A. If you need to, you have the chance to completely retake 2 exams. His lectures are AMAZING w/ lots of demonstrations and really keep your attention even with less interesting subjects. I loved this class!
Dr. Laude made chemistry very easy. He offers so many resources outside of class to help you succeed. Tests make up a large portion of your grade, but instead of a final, you can take up to two replacement exams if you are unhappy with your final grade.
Took him 301C and now 302C. He is the best experience I have had at UT so far. His exams and quizzes are all multiple choice and very straightforward from lecture slides. He is also very funny and his TAs are extremely helpful. His class is very easy as long as you read his slides and learning modules.
I took Dr. Laude for 301 and 302 and he's one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes you actually interested in chemistry, does fun experiments on stage, and really cares about students learning and getting a good grade in the class. You have weekly modules and quizzes in class, but if you study the slides he provides you'll be fine.
Dr.Laude was the best professor I have had at UT. I hated chemistry before I took his class, but Dr.Laude made it bearable. He is one of the very few professors who genuinely cares about his students' well-being and does his very best to make sure students get an A. I had him for 2 semesters and I am really going to miss him! :'(
Dr. Laude is awesome. He's funny and passionate about chemistry. He gives you absolutely everything you need to succeed in both courses and allows retests at the end of the semester (as meany times as you want to get your desired grade). The final was a group project but as long as you participate in it and try you will get a 100. Loved his class.
Dr. Laude is such a great professor and person in general. Hilarious af, even the syllabus. Puts care into everything he does and made chemistry bearable for me.
Laude is the best chem prof at UT!! He really cares about his students, and encourages them to do well. He offers 30 points of extra credit at the end of the semester, which can raise your grade by 3%. He also offers two retake exams, which can help you raise your exam grade average. He has biweekly quizzes, which help you prepare for the exams!
Great teacher, super clear about expectations and stuff on tests, doesn't throw unnecessary curveballs to trip you up. First time I looked forward to going to chemistry, even at 8 in the morning. He is awesome. Take him if you have the chance.
Dr. Laude is one of the most caring professors I have ever had wanting all his students to succeed while providing the resources to do so. After retaking chem 301 with fakhraddine, I had to take chem 302 over the summer, which is condensed into a month. Dr laude taught the material well and provided the structure in that i was able to get an A-.
If you have the opportunity to take him, do. You will learn so much. I think about his lectures as I live my life. He is a fantastic lecturer and speaker, and a great person. I greatly enjoyed him. He wants you to pass-- many opportunities for extra credit. Work was not hard.
OMG IF YOU CAN TAKE HIM DO IT!! i took him over the summer and im being so honest when i say hes the best professor ive ever taken. he really cares about you learning the material. im beyond grateful that i was able to take him for chem ii.
By far my favorite professor in my whole college experience. Laude cares deeply for students and he has this philosophy of earning all of your points from the ground up. His tests are essentially like his test reviews and even then he offers remakes for finals. Overall I have only good things to say.
i love dr.laude so much. he's so funny and his lectures are so engaging and he's truly the best chemistry teacher on campus.
Dr. Laude is literally amazing! Do take him if you can!
Dr. Laude has the most structured, easy-to-understand syllabus with clear grading expectations, making the class so easy. You will be prepared for every question on every test and quiz. Take him if you can!!
I feel prepared for future chemistry classes even though I never felt like I had to worry about my grade
Really enjoyed Dr. Laude's class because of how straightforward he is on what to expect for tests and quizzes literally question-by-question (as someone who is not a great test taker). I do think personally that his teaching style doesn't work for me, but it doesn't really matter because his review notes are clear and the tests aren't difficult.
Amasing and makes the class very fun to learn in
Lectures were fun and engaging, a decent amount of homework but it was very easy to complete, easy quizzes, has a very clear and refreshing teaching philosophy that makes course content easy to learn and interesting, hardest part was the tests, but he gives many study tools that make it easy to achieve higher scores
Dr. Laude is an amazing and enticing professor. Even though his lectures are mandatory, there is not a single time I did not look forward to them. From the experiments to his personality, the class is very engaging. The tests are easy if you take the time to look at the notes he posts. Overall I highly recommend taking Dr. Laude.
Professor Laude is one of the best professors you can take at UT. He genuinely wants every student to do well in the class. You can't use a calculator, but the exams are multiple-choice. He provides endless resources to for exam preparation, and I never felt bored in any of his lectures.
Tests were fair and professor was very engaging and passionate about chemistry
Hands down, the best 301 teacher. Very informative and has great grading philosophy (A or A- if you do all your work and practice). Highly recommend taking the class because he teaches chemistry and not just math. Warning: No calculators, so if you cannot do mental math, I would be careful joining, but the math isn't too bad!
Dr. Laude is probably the best professor on campus. His lectures are engaging and interesting, and he makes it easy to study for exams and quizzes by posting exactly what you need to study. Show up to class, complete the assignments, and study for the exams, and an A is very achievable.
This class is extremely clearly laid out and really easy to follow. He doesn't make you buy a textbook and he makes TONS of resources to study with. this class is a super easy A and he offers end of semester retakes.
Laude is a cool and funny guy. He cares about his students and even reads poetry sometimes. Quizzes can be difficult, you have one in almost every lecture. Tests can be hard but he makes it easy to get a good grade with practice exams and there are a lot of TA office hours. Laudster is the best chem prof on campus, and if you can take him, do it.
Laude is the best chem professor at UT. 4 midterms with NO FINAL, very easy to follow grading criteria and opportunities for extra credit and lots of breathing room for your grade. Lots of study resources for tests; there are quizzes almost every class but lowest 4 get dropped, lectures were boring at times but they can be enjoyable.
Dr. Laude is awesome. There was a quiz almost every single lecture but, he clearly outlines beforehand what you need to know for each question. As long as you read the posted exam study materials, you should be able to get an A on every quiz and exam. Lots of homework and studying throughout the week though.
Dr. Laude is a great professor who wants all of his students to succeed. However, I am not a big fan of his flipped classroom method, so make sure to go to his TA's office hours as they will teach you majority of the material. Quiz almost every class and 4 tests which aren't too bad. However DO good on them. His retake exams were inherently harder.
Laude is great, his passion is chemistry and he truly wants students to succeed. If you have the opportunity to take him, you should because his philosophy makes the class easy if you work.
He is funny + kind, which gets you a long way as a prof. His teaching style is not for everyone. Try ur hardest to pass the exams the first time you take them because the retakes are the worst thing known to man fr. No calculators but the laude math style is easy until the numbers are close together which he says he doesn't do but sometimes does.
AMAZING professor, and likely one of the best that I will have for a while. He does his best to maintain student engagement in his lectures, often doing demos and blowing up hydrogen balloons. His grading criteria is very clearly outlined and he is VERY effective at communicating what will be on exams. He also has extra credits and retakes.
This class will be rough if you haven't taken AP Chem; Laude's pacing is fast. It wasn't a complete repeat of AP Chem, but the new concepts introduced were fairly easy to comprehend, and he basically taught to the test. If you're in an honors program, felt like 301C was easy, and you have a choice, consider taking something else instead of 302C.
Amazing professor. An A is easily achievable if you study the 25-question annotated notes for the midterms. No Final. easy homework and daily quizzes, and some get dropped.
Had a flipped classroom style, with learning modules. Tests were mostly straightforward, and there's a final group project (very easy). He has a philosophy about everyone who wants an A can get one, and I would say it's true. His study guides are amazing, use that to guide your studying. He's also a fun guy.
Average lectures but amazing resources. Personally, I never cared for Laude's lectures but his Learning Modules and Exam Prep pages on Canvas give you all the material to succeed. His grading policy is also very generous since you can retake 2 out of the 4 midterms if you want to score higher. TA office hours are extremely accessible as well.
Dr Laude is the best. Take advantage of the syllabus because it tells you exactly what you need to know on every single assignment. His office hours are helpful especially right before exams. The practice exams are pretty much the same stuff as the midterms. Take it seriously and you'll get an A.
This class was time consuming as it involved many big projects one after the other. This course involves a lot of writing so be prepared. Guest speakers and lectures were great. As long as you complete projects and writing assignments properly then you will get an A. If you don't then you'll be able to make corrections and submit again to get an A.
Laude is the type of teacher you want for chem. He is funny, caring, wanting his students to succeed, and is an excellent professor. He is the type of guy that will change the course up if he sees enough students struggling with a certain section. There is hw due almost every class but it prepares you for the dozens of quizzes that keep you up.
Took him for the Professionalism in Healthcare UGS class, TAKE IT! All you are graded on is a completion grade on the papers and your attendance. Lectures are extremely boring but turn in your work and you will get an A. No exams.
Dr. Laude is an amazing professor and is very well respected among students and faculty. However, his course is quite fast paced. Studying is very important, make sure you study his practice exams, quizzes, and go to office hours. There is a quiz every class day. Try to get good grades on his exams the first time- retakes are more difficult.
Professor Laude helped me understand chemistry so much better than I thought I would be able to. Really cares about his students and makes it very easy to understand his expectations for assessments. Practice exams were super useful. Don't worry about the quizzes at the end of every lecture because he gives you practice and many get dropped. Easy A
Dr. Laude loves his students and sets them up for success. He and the TAs provide excellent exam prep materials and as long as you study that, you're going to pass/get an A on all exams. He is wildly entertaining and I found myself not wanting to miss class. He also lets you retake any 2/4 exams for a better grade up to 100. He's awesome!
Daily in class quizzes kinda suck ngl. His lectures are kinda all over the place but he gives a lot of other resources and notes to help prepare for tests. He gives you each question type that will be on the exam and a practice test before exam.
Dr. Laude is hands-down the best CH301 professor, you are lucky if you have him! He only teaches you exactly what you need to know for his tests. They're all multiple choice and 2 can be replaced! There are graded quizzes every lecture but they make you keep up with the material. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! They truly help so much!
has to be the most annoying man ever
One of the most well-respected professors at UT. 301C is the majors/honors course, and it moves at a quicker pace than the regular class, so be prepared to work a bit harder. As long as you keep up with the modules, you're good. Quizzes are given at the end of every lecture. I will say some the way he teaches some things aren't super transferrable.
The most student-friendly professor of the Intro Chem professors. 4 exams, with the opportunity to retake 2 at the end of the semester, with plenty of extra credit too. TAs are super approachable and friendly. His lectures are hilarious, and the demos intriguing as well. Has clear guidelines on what to learn for exams - know those and get an easy A
Took him for professionalism in healthcare. There are UGS courses with a lighter workload however this has flags in it. Attendance is somewhat mandatory. The UGCA's are slow graders but its easy to do well and the assignments are easy and you have multiple chances to redo it. Lecture's are boring but the class is easy.
You want an A, take him. you wont learn chem, its just a bunch of memorization for the sake of getting your good grade.
Dr. Laude is probably the best professor a first-year can have. He understands that we just came out of high school and genuinely wants his students to succeed. You can get a good grade just by memorizing the facts and calculations, but you won't learn much chemistry unless you really understand the concepts.
If you want an "easy A" but not learn anything, take laude. He just has you memorize random facts and ways to calculate things his way. I say "easy A" in quotes because you have to be able to tech yourself a majority of the content and be able to understand his version of chemistry so no other youtubers or online searches can help you study either.
Laude is a very caring professor with a very easy class. However, his whole class could be taught in 1/2 the time with better retention. His lectures are off topic all the time with half the class being dazed. The man is great; however, his teaching style is not optimum to actually learn the content. If you want an easy A, take him.
I am seeing a lot of reviews that talk a bit down on Dr. Laude with most of them saying that he is an easy A and he does not actually teach anything, which is because he runs a reverse classroom. Many of the people writing these reviews are privileged to have a professor like Dr. Laude as he really helps students transition to college chemistry.
Had Laude for both 301 & 302; I think his teaching style doesn't work for me personally (somewhat flipped classroom and I need thorough explanations lol), so if this is you as well I highly recommend going to TA's ACs/OHs before quizzes/tests - I went to Robin's and she was so helpful and great at explaining the material a bit more methodically!
I had Dr. Laude for CH 301 and 302 and while 302 was much more challenging, Dr. Laude was accommodating and set out clear expectations for what students needed to know to succeed. 2 opportunities to retake exams instead of a final. Though I took AP Chem in HS, I felt like I finally understood chem after this course. Amazing intro chem professor.
every high school has that professor everyone seems to love but is known to not really teach, Laude is a college version. taking his class can really backfire and if you like structured learning I would recommend taking a different professor. not a huge deal but he is also the only gen chem professor who doesnt allow calculators on exams.
Live, laugh, Laude. I'm the minority who honestly doesn't care for Laude's lectures since I feel I didn't learn much from them. They were more like entertainment. However, Laude has so many Canvas resources like his exam prep notes, so it's easy to teach yourself. His TAs are also amazing where there's always an office hour occurring.
I know everyone loved Dr. Laude, but his lectures were scattered and didn't make much sense to me. The only major plus of the course was retaking exams, and the exams were just like the practice exams. If you need lots of instruction on material, don't take Laude
Dr. Laude is awesome. He does everything he can to assist his students and is very understanding in regards to lecture attendance and faulty/unfair test questions. He's happy to answer any questions. The material isn't easy, but all resources are on canvas. Probably the best AChem professor, and the class is way better than PChem. Take him.
if you want an A, take him. if you actually want to learn chem, dont. he only preps you for his tests which are watered down chem. if youre the type to need to understand every aspect of a topic and WHY things happen like me, you will struggle a lot since he tells you, "it doesnt matter. just memorize this and youll get an A on my exam."
Laude makes chemistry easy to understand, and I genuinely have enjoyed his class. The majority of the grade comes from 4 exams, which you can retake later if need be. There are also extra points (modules, quizzes, etc). I highly recommend him, even if the material can be difficult to get (which the exam resources help with greatly).
Dr. Laude is the best chemistry professor at UT. He is very caring and funny and has incredible resources on canvas that make learning the material on your own easy. The way he structures the material makes the exams extremely manageable and it is more than likely you will get an A if you put in effort.
Exams are very straightforward so just go to class and enjoy his lectures don't stress out too much!!
laude is a great professor, put a solid amount of effort into his class and you will get an A every time. he does a lot of extra credit and his lectures dont really make sense sometimes, but the canvas materials and modules are so good where you should never be lost in this class. learn how to study for the daily quizzes!
Dr. Laude helped me transition very smoothly from high school chemistry to college. As long as effort is put into the class you will receive an A. He is a great professor and the only downside is that he is not teaching CH 302C.
Literally the best professor you could possibly have for chemistry. He put in a lot of effort to make the course feasible and the exams and quizzes were super easy. You literally can't fail the class because of the way Dr. Laude formats the course.
So great! Tests are very easy and he gives a lot of resources for you to succeed in the class.
Dr. Laude is a great professor who provides many resources to help you succeed in class. His TA staff is awesome, and are really helpful in their office hours! His quizzes every class sound intense, but are very manageable and help you grasp the material.
legit just saw him in a tik tok but he seemed like the coolest professor ever I wish he was at my school
Dr Laude and all of his TAs are the best, they all truly want you to succeed and make what is supposed to be a complicated subject straightforward to understand. Don't listen to the reviews that say you don't learn because while you could memorize what is on the exams it is tough to answer his theoretical questions without understanding. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Laude is so kind and hilarious when it comes to lectures and office hours, he really wants his students to succeed and do well in his class. However, his lectures are quite chaotic and I found it hard to follow along with what exactly he was trying to get across. Even without lectures though you should do perfectly fine in this class. So easy!!
Dr. Laude is an amazing professor. The way his class is structured makes getting an A very easy. The lectures are sometimes hard to keep up with, but they're very entertaining and if you don't understand the content, the exam prep notes and office hours will help 100%. There's also multiple extra credit opportunities. Long story short, TAKE HIM!!
Dr. Laude is a great professor and his class is insanely easy! There are daily quizzes after each class that "make" attendance mandatory. Dr. Laude provides a review set before each unit that essentially outlines EXACTLY what'll be on the exam and quizzes. You'll know what to study before the unit even starts. Extra cred and replacement exams.
Best professor ever!! If you have the opportunity to take his class DO IT. He wants every single student to succeed and his lectures are amazing. He is very clear about what we need to know to be successful in his class and provides us with ample resources to achieve a stress-free A.
Laude made it easy to study for quizzes/exams with his review notes that outlined exactly what would be tested. There are daily quizzes at the end of each lecture to keep people coming to class. Go to office hours to help prepare for them and also get the extra credit for going. His lectures are a mix of fun/random musings and actual material.
Great professor, wants every student to succeed. Check out his TEDx talk "Everyone can get an A," he def provides resources to be able to. The TA team is amazing and offers so many OH to reach out and get help, and gives extra credit for attending office hours weekly. His tests are extremely fair and similar to the practice tests, gives 2 retakes.
Definitely, lots of homework that piles up, but nothing too difficult if you pay attention. He genuinely wants everyone to get A's and he is such a great lecturer. He focuses on your understanding the fundamental concepts, which I really like. He also reserves seats for his chem 1 students to take his chem 2 class :)
Let's just say, attendance for lectures was optional, yet everyone showed up. We really loved Laude and almost everyone showed up to his office hours every day. He had wonderful lectures and interesting demonstrations with the TAs. He genuinely cared about everyone and offered to write letters of rec! He made the material easy to understand.
Dr. Laude is such a kind and hilarious professor. He is very understanding and gives lots of opportunity to make up lost points (extra credit from office hours, 2 make up exams, etc). He makes the content really easy to understand and his quizzes and exams are extremely straightforward. It's really easy to do well in his class.
Took him for UGS: Originality in Arts and Sciences. Great guy and had no tests over lecture content. The 3 projects throughout the year were sometimes a pain. TAs would grade inconsistently and required office hour visits to get fixed. Never knew what my grade was until they were posted at the end of the year, but most people got As.
I love this class. The TAs (especially his assistant Robin) make the class though. His lectures are very boring and not super worthwhile, but going to office hours and reviews help IMMENSELY. This class is an achievable A compared to other science classes. Word of advice--don't leave his office hours or anything early because HE WILL call you out.
Laude wants his students to succeed in his class. He's clear about what question types are on the exams and how to study for his class. There are daily quizzes during lecture time and 4 exams, and you can retake up to 2 exams. The TAs are helpful, go to office hours or academic communities. The downside is that it's easy to forget what you learn
I loved this class. Dr. Laude was super funny and down to earth during lectures. While having quizzes pretty much every class was a little annoying, the academic communities, exam prep page on canvas, and office hours were super specific about what the quizzes & exams covered. I would highly recommend going to most academic communities!!!
LOVED him!! Coming in, I knew it would be an "easy A," so I didn't put much effort in. However, if you want an A, you do have to put a bit of effort in (obviously). It's not a complete blowoff. Laude is the best and his lectures + TAs made chemistry easy.
This professor is an amazing lecturer!
VERY EASY class. Just do the review pages he sends out and attend office hours, then you are perfectly fine. He will outline everything that you need to know in the review pages and then tell you word for word whats on the test and quizzes in office hours. Plus, you get to retake 2 test for maximum credit at the end of semester instead of a final.
Dr.Laude is amazing! He has a flipped classroom: you complete modules and then come to class where he is king of his circus. You can expect explosions, poetry, chemical theatre, out-of-pocket humor, relevant chemical demonstrations, and a little bit of math. The class is set up to ensure your success if you are willing to put in the effort.
Dr. Laude truly cares about his students and provides many resources to help them succeed, including office hours daily. He is understanding but the reviews on here may be misleading, suggesting his class is a blow-off class. Everyone can make an A but you must learn the material since your grade is mostly based on the tests. Live Laugh Laude!
Dr. Laude is dedicated to ensuring all of his students succeed in his course, taking extra steps to ensure students get an A on the exams: He gives extra credit, has many office hours (including a 10pm Zoom the night before a test) and releases practice exams. He is also hilarious and charismatic, so it's never uncomfortable when speaking with him!
I took him for UGS 303: Originality in Arts and Sciences. Overall, he was solid. It is a SUPER easy class to get an A; however, the TA's were unbearable. Their grading is super wacky, but only the final papers matter, so don't worry about how they grade your assignments. They say the attendance is mandatory, but I was able to skip many classes.
Dr. Laude is the best chem professor out there. He tries to make chemistry understandable and interesting for everyone. He gives you every possible resource to succeed from flipped classroom modules to pages and pages of exam review materials. If you study what he tells you to, you will get an A in the class. Take him, you will not regret it!
Dr. Laude is a phenomenal professor. He is easily one of the most funny and interesting professors I've ever met, and he really does care about all of his students. Making an A is not very hard as long as you stay on top of the material. Take him if you get the chance, just know that most learning will be done studying for tests and quizzes.
Super easy class and very easy to get an A. Would take again!
I love Dr.Laude's style of teaching, super easy and fun class, and very easy exams.
Amazing teacher! Entertaining lectures! If you go to office hours once a week (which are insanely helpful for quizzes) you get an extra 3% on your grade. He is very clear on how exams will be and genuinely cares about his students. If you take his class, my biggest advice is DO NOT STUDY THE MODULES when it comes to exams. Study the quiz reviews.
Easy A... makes gen chem understandable. Don't fall behind on weekly assignments and you'll be fine.
Dr. Laude truly cares about each and every one of his students and wants to see everyone succeed. So many resources, office hours, and opportunities to bring your grade up if you screw up. Easy A and a really great professor.
Laude is a caring professor with a great sense of humor. The class is dependent on tests that make up 80% of your grade, but it's manageable as long as you study his exam reviews. He also allows you to redo two exams instead of a final. There is a quiz every day in class but the content is reviewed beforehand and you have drops.
Easiest chem lab ever. We had no lab write-ups and no real assignments. Every grade was participation based, not accuracy based. We never had any homework, every grade in the gradebook was taken in class based on in-class activities. Easiest chem lab ever, but none of us learned anything about chemistry. Guaranteed 100 if you go to every lab.
Dr. Laude is very caring and funny, and makes his expectations for your learning very clear. The TAs are awesome and their office hours are tremendously helpful, more than the lectures IMO. Lots of quiz drops and can retake up to 2 exams, although many people do well enough not to need to. Extra credit given to those who attend office hours.
Such a good prof and class! Genuinely enjoyed going to class. I struggled towards the start of the semester, but Laude and Robin really helped me out. They both care about the students, and I really appreciate everything they do for the students. AMAZING CLASS!!!!! Take it if you can!
Took this class as a pilot course to receive both credits in one semester. Highly recommend taking this course, tasks and assignments were very easy and doable with a good group. TA's were nice although there was some discrepancy with grading (fixed later) but that may be b/c it's the pilot course. No work outside of class, super easy!
Its Laude. Really one of the best professors to take at UT. TA's are awesome and have so many office hours throughout the week.
This lab was a bit all over the place sometimes just bc we were the pilot but overall I thought the workload was manageable however it was a bit difficult to understand what we needed to do in the lab it was pretty hard but the TAs r awesome!
Dr. Laude puts in lots of effort for the class to be this great. His canvas page is awesome & I wish all other professors had canvas like his. He spoon feeds you the course and has fun demos. My only note is I wish he'd not joke on topics that might upset students of certain beliefs. Other than that, a caring, dedicated professor.
Take this class! Every class there is a quiz so make sure to attend lectures. Chemistry is hard but Professor Laude makes it easy to understand given multiple resources and unique techniques. Best part about this class is that you can take up to two exams again!
I only had Laude for a UGS that I rarely went to (sorry Laude) before taking him for chem this semester and wow I understand the 5.0 rating. I had Anderson fall semester who was a great lecturer but his tests literally killed me. With Laude, I know exactly what to expect on the tests and quizzes. The study resources are great and he's also funny.
Dr. Laude is truly an angel! A chem GOAT! He knows how to teach this course like no one else!! I had a full time job & couldn't prepare as much for exams, but if I had the time, I know I would've succeeded because he gives you ALL the tools you need and more! Super caring, funny, and passionate about students' success! Wish I could take him again!
Overrated and easily worse than other Chem teachers. Modules aren't clear, class is dumbed down to the point of confusion, and chooses to teach "Laude math" where you memorize a bunch of specific values rather than just normal math with a calculator.
Dr. Laude is THE best chem prof! He teaches you how to THINK, which will prepare you for the MCAT and other difficult tests. He makes you do your work without a calculator, which trains your brain. He is very caring and clearly wants everyone to succeed. Always available to answer questions and opened extra office hours when we were confused. 10/10
Great professor & perspective on learning is so inspiring. Lectures weren't very helpful and didn't like flipped classroom approach, but class structure/canvas were soo organized for prep. Learning modules were not helpful. He is THE most accessible professor, from many office hours to 10pm zooms, he really wants students to succeed which I admire!
TAKE LAUDE!!! Best chem professor. I took CH301 and CH302 with him and got A's on both. I was very scared to take chemistry at UT because I did not have a strong background in chemistry at all, didn't take any advanced chemistry course in high school, and I was able to do good. Dr. Laude gives so many resourses to help you succeed in the course.
Professor Laude makes this challenging course manageable. Frequent quizzes and the ability to retake exams provide ample opportunities to succeed. I found unstuckstudy ai an invaluable tool alongside the robust course resources. Overall, a rewarding experience with an engaging instructor.
I love you Dr. laude !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chem in high school was a train wreck but with Laude I actually love it so much! Before I took his class I hated chem but now I'm thinking about adding it on as a major. Incredible lecturer and just all-around GOAT. Even if you aren't pre-med or STEM, you should consider taking his class just because of how fun and interesting it is!!
I'm so obsessed and thankful for Dr. Laude. He makes lectures so engaging which is huge for chemistry, the review notes are so helpful and he gives you everything you need to get an A in the class. TAKE HIM.
SUper easy class and nice prof.
truly the goat
laude is the goat
I LOVE LAUDE!!!!!!!!!! i really have nothing else to say but that he's the best. I am sad about finishing chem bc I truly don't think I will have another professor that here that even compares to him. he is the best!!!! wants students to succeed, is very funny and entertaining in lecture, and overall knows what he's doing and how to teach.
I love Dr. Laude! His lectures are as funny as they are helpful. He shows every concept visually with the help of his TAs (who act as electrons, molecules, etc.). I'm dyslexic so I really value his teaching skills. His canvas is exceptionally organized and full of study materials to help you succeed. He makes it clear what will be on the tests.
Laude is an amazing teacher, he has years of experince behind him and it shows. He himself is extremely entertaining and fun to be in class with. The content can be tough but he provides tons of practice to get you ready for the tests. All in all this class is extremely doable.
There are many exam prep resources available, and he is VERY clear about what will be on the test. The course content is naturally somewhat difficult, but Dr. Laude makes it very easy, and an A is very very very achievable.
One of the best chem professors at UT!
nice and funny teacher. course was hard though so make sure you stay on top of the learning modules and work hard because it can be easy to fall behind.
He is probably one of the best professors at UT. He cares about his students, and his lectures are really fun and engaging. Be ready to start enjoying coming to class! Truly enjoyed this class!
Laude is amazing. His lectures are fun and enjoyable, and he makes the content easy to understand. For the most part, the actual content is pretty easy. He gives lots of resources to help you learn the material and goes through exam/quiz questions in class.
Dr. Laude makes all of his lectures SO engaging and makes chemistry fun! Although the actual content isn't the easiest, he provides so many resources for review and extra help, so everyone feels like they can succeed. There are quizzes each class, TA reviews, and lots of extra credit and retest opportunities. He is so funny and is the best!
Dr. Laude is an amazing chemistry professor. I was so nervous for this class since chem wasn't my strongest point, but he made class super enjoyable with his lectures and easy to understand. There are so many resources available in this class to make sure you're successful
He's an alright professor, but overrated. Extra credit and TA's is what rlly makes his class, so GO TO OFFICE HOURS & ACADEMIC COMMUNITY TO GET THE E.C AND MEET THE TA'S! If you don't do well on his tests, he allows 2 test retakes. Modules are useless, but do them bc they're worth 50 points, BUT go over the review notes til u memorize everything.
Dr. Laude is truly a character in the best way possible, very engaging lecturer who evidently has his student's success in mind. TAs make review slides for assessments that VERY clearly define to you each topic/question you need to know. Daily quizzes and 4 exams, but 4 lowest quizzes are dropped and 2 replacement exams at the end of the semester!
Extremely overrated professor. Does not actually teach during lectures and has occasional interactive parts about his "lecture". Only good thing about his class were the review notes that listed what we needed to know for quizzes and test. Overall, if you put in the work you will make an A, so don't slack off.
Prepares you for exactly what each test and quiz will ask. There are quizzes every lecture, but he has GREAT quiz reviews online. 80% is review of AP Chem, but you definitely do NOT need AP experience to do well. Modules/Reviews prepare you well enough, but his office hours are helpful AND he awards extra credit for going. Very funny and respected.
Amazingly structured course. Although the lectures are a little too long winded and abstract for my liking, the course provides you with all the resources you need to succeed in a succinct and to the point manner. Academic discussions are very useful, and LMs, exam and quiz prep material give you everything you need to know. 100% take this!
Dr. Laude has structured this course extraordinarily well and his lectures are hilarious and fun to attend. He is very fair in what he expects you to know and has optimized this course to accommodate you as much as possible. Definitely take him!
There is a reason why Dr. Laude is revered by many: he's the best. He clearly cares about his students. The TAs are great as well. There are quizzes done and learning modules due before nearly every lecture, but the work is manageable and there are so many ways to get a good grade. Don't sweat it.
i didnt even have him for class but dr. caudill had many of his vids as a resource. just wanted to say that he is a great guy and an incredible help with general chemistry.
College chemistry is so difficult, but Dr. Laude makes everything so digestible and easy. The exam preparation slides made by Robin contain everything you need for every quiz and exam. His lectures are engaging and sometimes he throws in cool experiments to keep you engaged.
Such an amazing professor, other professors should take note. Being able to have each question type was a game changer. He made chemistry fun and his class structure is unbeatable. Definitely take him if you get a chance.
His syllabus outlines everything, and his lectures are super engaging, he's always up to one experiment or another. While I didn't love his teaching style, Robin's question-type guides saved me. Study them and you're set. There are learning modules and quizzes due in nearly every class, so don't slack off and stay prepared, or you'll fall behind.
He's a super good professor and genuinely cares about his students doing well in his class. The only thing I didn't really like about his class were the daily quizzes. Other than that he makes getting an A in his class super attainable.
Ok, here's the deal. HE IS THE GPA BOOST YOU CAN GET. But, don't underestimate his class. He gives daily quizzes w/ clear study guides. The quizzes are exactly what is on the study guide. He tells the question types for the exams. Stay on top of your work, and don't play catch up at the end of the sem, with re-exams. That doesn't always go well.
Funny professor and seemed like a good dude, but learning style was definitely not for me. First lecture seemed very unorganized. Decided to switch to different prof after first lecture. Take him if you like flipped classroom, otherwise dont.
I hated chem my sophomore year of high school but now I am thinking of majoring in chem cos of Laude. He is so funny and gives SO much sources to help you study. Never learned in class but daily quizzes so you have to go, def forced me to study so I was fully prepared for upcoming exams. You have 2 exam retakes yayy!
You're practically learning by yourself through online canvas modules. Lectures dont really explain the content at all but its mandatory cuz of the daily quizzes. You have to study alot for this class so be prepared and you absolutely cannot get behind. He and the TA's host amazing office hours and academic communities for extra credit so PLEASE GO
His class was excellent. It focused a lot on the lectures, and was very quick-paced. The group project at the end was pretty easy. He's a very funny professor, and I enjoyed attending his lectures. I really only got a B because my study habits were not as good when I took this class, and I think getting an A is very achievable.
studying for my exam and just want to say i loveeeeeeeeee laude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hes the best. had him for chem 301 and now 302. he provides so many resources and genuinely wants all his students to succeed. hes a very genuine, funny, and engaging professor. makes the material understandable. doesnt get any better than laude.
Terrible would not take again
TAKE LAUDE!!!!! Laude is the best professor I have taken at UT. I am sitting in his class rn writing this review because he is such a great professor. Any review that says not to take him is trying to trick you so there is more availability in the class. I am telling you, if you can take his class, TAKE IT IMMEDIATELY :)
Dr.Laude is an amazing professor, very caring and understanding. He does not care about grades and wants everyone in the class to get an A. If you go to his office hours, a lot of the time he would tell you what's on the quizzes. He had so many resources to be successful on the tests, which he gave a very clear outline on what is tested. No final
I love Dr. Laude's lectures! I think he breaks down chemistry in a very clear way and he goes over each topic with care. He is very clear on what will be tested on exams and the TA's also were amazing in helping me wrap my head around some of the harder concepts in chem.
Laude is easily the best professor I've ever had. His lecture demos are fun and he offers a good amount of extra credit. There are quizzes almost every day in class, but he gives you the question types before hand and amazing review notes to study. I loved coming to class, TAKE HIM!
Such an awesome professor, his test prep material is unbeatable. You're given exactly what you'll be asked and exactly how to solve it. I thought I was bad at chemistry in high school, but Dr. Laude made it easy and possible for everyone to succeed.
DA GOAT!!!!!!!!!!!! how to get an A is beautifully outlined and gives ample extra credit opportunities. 5 Q quizzes every class but he gives an instapoll with basically the same questions. tests are VERY similar to practice exams. free 250 pts at end of sem from a EZ group presentation
Best professor to ever exist.
LAUDE IS THE BESTT so sad this is my last semester taking him, his lectures are so fun and engaging! There are weekly modules due and quizzes per lecture but it's always on the last lecture. They're really helpful in studying, and the exams are all multiple choice. Despite not allowing calculators he makes his exams simple math, just go to OHs! :)
Good prof. Didn't find his lectures very helpful but did appreciate clear grading criteria, MCQ tests, plethora of resources, and modules. He also gave 10 points EC. He wants all his students to get an A in the class, even offering test retakes for the students who don't make an A at first. Very important to keep up with all the content though.
GOATT LAUDE. Took him for advanced achem and since this is one of the last class we chem major taken at UT, Laude wants us all to enjoy the course as much as possible. No tests, just straight up fun assignments. Lab portion was taught by another prof but it was fun as hell.
I had Dr. Laude for CH 301C and CH 302C, and I loved having him as a professor. Aside from being a hilarious lecturer with many witty comments, he truly cares for the success of his students and offers many extra credit opportunities to receive an A. He also provides review notes before each quiz and exam that are very helpful- read them! :)
Bro is the goat. Even if you aren't a chem major or specifically in his class his learning modules are available to everyone so they can all get the same experience of being in his class. Bro saved my gpa with his videos, even if you had a mid teacher like caudill. Love that man, he's like a hidden npc celeberty outside the class setting.
TAKE LAUDE!! By far the best prof I have had since coming to UT. He provides plenty of EC and is very clear about what is on the exam. There is daily quizzes at the end of class, but they are fairly easy. Laude is such a joyous hilarious person, but with that said his lectures aren't great. A lot of the information will be self taught/ TA taught.
I cannot express how grateful I am to have had Laude as a professor for 301/302, the way the course is designed makes receiving the grade you want VERY accessible. Review slides for exams and quizzes lay out exactly what questions/content you will see, there is never a 'surprise'. Even in a class of 500 you can tell he cares about his students!!
Pretty easy A. Horrible lecturer and you will teach yourself all the content. GO TO JOHN'S OFFICE HOURS he is the best UGCA.
Easiest A of freshman year. Lecture heavy but they can get boring/repetitive VERY quickly. Daily quizzes (mostly easy). His exam preparation notes are the best resources. Friends w/ other classes used to ask for them from me. If u can self study from exam prep notes u don't have to pay attention in class. He's entertaining + easy tests.
Dr. Laude is truly the goat of the chemistry department at UT. Receiving an A in his class is very, very achievable with him giving review notes which quite literally cover every question type on the exam, and two replacement exams in place of a final at the end of the semester.
Best prof I'll ever have probably. Super clear learning objectives with 1:1 test correlated review notes. His TA's are spectacular. Chemistry conceptually is hard, but this class makes it seem so easy to study for. I acc kinda like chemistry now which is something I didn't think I'd say
Look, Laude is a great guy, very funny lectures and a lot of jokes... but the lectures as a whole were not useful. People DID NOT pay attention at all, they were just there to take the quiz then go. If it weren't for the fact that the chem dept made 301 and 302 VERY EASY opinions would be very diff. John is the BEST TA, go to his OH for help and Qs
Dr. Laude's class is easy to succeed in, but I found the lectures to be extremely irrelevant to the course. There is a quiz every class (during the last 15 minutes of lecture) that goes over content from the previous day's lecture. Overall, there's not much learning in class but the content and assessments are quite manageable.
Dr. Laude is a great professor! The class is taught as a flipped classroom, so the modules are done beforehand and Dr. Laude uses lecture to refine knowledge and provide clarification. Although the course is "exam heavy" as they make up 80% of the grade, optional finals provided. He gives lots of extra credit (through office hours).
Honestly, best chem professor. Had to drop my grade for my own fault, so I'm writing to make sure you don't have to do the same! I didn't do so well towards the end of 301, and immediately fell behind on 302! It's difficult, so stay on top of the work, OR YOU WILL FAIL! Use all the resources provided to you, stay on track, STUDY!!!
Don't take this class in the summer. It's temping but get ready to have no life because it will take up all of your time. Great class, Laude is very clear with what he wants for exams, so you'll never be surprised by what's on the test. labs are fun and reports arent bad, but the summer session is so fast paced. Take during the normal school year
Dr. Laude is great, his class is so easy its funny, but for the future he is not the best because he only stresses to review certain things for the tests so you don't know all the material half the time. Not the best class for actually learning, but nobody cares about that anyway so take this class and get another easy chemistry credit. =)
SO easy to pass. Lectures are very good + easily understandable if you do the learning mods before. Cool demos and good jokes. He's clear with what's on quizzes/exams. He can get a bit snarky with students which is annoying and discouraging. He's not above calling people out for eating in class or being late. Treats us like we're high schoolers.
Genuinely one of the best professors I've had at UT. He's a bit older now and his gripes with not going to med school shows, but regardless one of the most interesting (and fun) times I've had in a class. Oh and he also makes ice cream for y'all at the end of the year. Take him as fast as you can. He's amazing.
Do not take the OnRamps course! It's made so it is hard to pass because they don't want too many high school students to get college credit, I got a A- in Lab and C in Lecture. The modules make sense but when you take the test they don't align. The only students who got higher than a C in my class used AI.
Only take if your ready to teach yourself everything online before coming to lecture to simply review, the professor is funny and entertaining but only reviews in class, does not teach as if it is the first time you are seeing it. Don't hate the course but don't enjoy it either, two quizzes every week, extra credit offered.
Every day that I come into my OnRamps class, I question why the 18 ibuprofen I took didn't do its job during the summer. I know less about chemistry now than when I started this class. Everything is online for homework, which would be fine if he actually taught in the learning modules and let us use calculators. No one in my class is passing.
I went in without AP chem so I was stressing about making it in this class. And it was difficult, and there was a learning curve, but he provides SO many materials for you so that you can learn the information so it's not awful! You just have to put in the work. There's a lot of work that you need to put in outside of class though. Lots of quizzes
Dr. Laude teaches through easy learning modules and lectures. He makes it very easy to understand exactly what will be asked on each test of the exams. His lectures are very engaging- TAs act out the chemistry principles, Dr. Laude reads poetry somewhat regularly, and at least one hydrogen balloon is blown up every week.
Love this guy, best prof ever
Dr. Laude is a good professor, but his lecture style is very, very disorganized - he goes on tangents for most of class. He does "flipped" class, so he tends to just ramble in class, but his grading is very fair and an A is easy to get. Same course content as AP chemistry, more or less.
I was scared for this class since I had not taken AP Chem, but this class is very much do-able if you put in effort. Also, if you mess up an exam, he allows retakes for up to 100%. And there is a group project as well.
Strange teaching style where you have to learn the content mostly by yourself before class (which takes a longgg time), but Dr.Laude gives LOTS of great advice on self-studying and provides the best chem materials ever! So A's are easy to get as long as you follow his suggestions. Take this class if you wanna learn how to study and get an A.
there was a girl in our class that asked laude for extra credit and laude said no because he would have to do it for everyone. she said I don't see anyone else asking. laude told her you are embarrassing yourself in front of 500 people. I had my shirt covering my mouth out of embarrassment. she dropped the course btw lol no letter of rec for her.
TAKE HIM. THe lectures arent helpful but you have quizzes every class. Easy A, just put in work outside of class
dr laude is the goat! the flipped learning classroom was a little strange bc i didn't like having to learn the material before taking a daily quiz in class. however, his notes are very clear and he elucidated each question type. tbh i slacked a little towards the end BUT his generous extra credit from going to office hours raised my low A- to an A!
Dr. Laude is funny/nice. SO MUCH practice made available. If you just do the practice provided its an easy A+. Tests are predictable and easy. Attendance is mandatory as he gives out quizzes each lecture which is a con however the quizzes are super easy. Gives 30 pts extra credit if you go to office hours which is 3% added to final grade. Easy A+
Dr. Laude is a great professor, as long as you put in some effort to study outside of class. He gives review notes for each concept, drops your lowest quiz grades, gives you extra credit for attending office hours, and has practice tests for each exam that are wonderful resources to study. He makes chem interesting and easy so definitely take him!
Lectures were very unhelpful because he treats everything like its common sense. Just do the modules and study on your own. It's set up easy to teach yourself. If you need help, go see his TAs NOT HIM. There are quizzes at the end of each class. Several opportunities for extra credit if you need it. He's funny when he's not teaching.
Dr. Laude's class was very doable because the grading criteria and exams/quizzes were predictable. There is a lot of practice that goes over every question type that will appear on the quizzes and exams. The teaching team is helpful and always available. In class, Dr. Laude is funny and pops a lot of balloons :D
Gen chem is honestly easy, the content you do have to learn by yourself and there is a quiz EVERY class day. Straightforward class though and Laudes funny!
Chem is not an easy subject, but the structuring of this class makes it less stressful. GO TO THE ACADEMIC COMMUNITIES. I learned the most at them and wish I hadn't waited until nearly halfway through the semester to go, take advantage of all of the resources there are to help you. Prof Laude is the goat as we all know, be grateful and try hard.
Honestly the best chem prof for CH301. His practice exams are SUPER similar to his actual exams which is why everyone scores so high. Extra credit offered for going to office hours which I recommend because his UGCA's are really helpful if you have difficulty with a certain question.
Dr. Laude's lectures sometimes feel off topic and unhelpful, but his demonstrations are fun and educational. He lets you retest 2 tests at the end of the semester and it actually brought me from a B+ to an A, so he's definitely very forgiving when it comes to grades. I'm terrible at chemistry and still managed to pull an A.
I absolutely love the chemistry department at UT. Everything's organized and set up for you to succeed in this course. More specifically, Laude has amazing lectures that teach you the concepts in a visual manner.
Dr. Laude's lectures are either really fun or really boring, no in between. However, his exams are so straightforward that getting a good grade in the class isn't difficult. There are daily quizzes without a calculator, but once you get used to them, they help you learn the content more than anything. He now allows calculators on exams
I haven't done chem in 4 years. Dr Laude's class was the best. Clear expectations. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there's a quiz at the end of every class. Just do the review notes, and go to specifcally HIS office hours. Lecture's are mid because of his speed, but his outside resources and help aren't. He's funny and deserves the glaze.
Dr Laude isn't doing the grading, he just lectures. They are pretty interesting and funny. You get to learn about him (Go Nuclear!). TAs grade the group projects and Dr Laude is just there to yap and outline the work. Don't go to him for advice though. Loved his and Dr. Sackey's dynamic. He says attendance is mandatory but he doesn't check.
Dr. Laude is a fantastic professor. He drops quiz grades and lets you do test retakes at the end of the semester.
Dr. Laude is a great human- caring, relatable, and just hilarious. His class is so well done it might be the easiest way to digest chemistry out there. Lectures are all over the place, but there are SO many resources for whatever type of learner you are (Canvas modules, online discussion forums, office hours, group office hours, extra practice).
