Gave up his law career to teach some good things to BALA students
President's Award for Teaching Excellence was well-deserved; very challenging and entertaining.
Pretty easy and interesting but the newspaper readings really suck and the tests are really tricky.
His classes aren't easy, but he makes himself available to answer questions and help you out. You will learn a lot from this professor. He's definitely worth taking more than once.
take this prof! worthed!! alot of news paper reading..but thats better than actually reading text books! you'll learn alot from politics to business.
He's a good professor, but he's such a liberal that it's sickening. He doesn't teach with an open mind, his opinion is correct. Some of the questions on the final were subjective. Good teacher, but if you don't want to hear liberal moaning..dont takeit
Professor Leventhal is one of the few teachers in school with whom you will still be in touch with after you graduate...
He uses the class as a platform to voice his own political opinions. His tests are based entirely on what he "thinks" on cases...the mantra is "when in doubt...think like leventhal". He needs to be less opinionated and get on with the
One of the few teachers that actually cares. It is a hard class but I recommend it. Its not a guaranteed A but you'll learn very important writing skills. You haven't experienced Bala if you don't take professor Leventhal's class.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. The class wasn't the easiest I've ever taken but he has a lot of enthusiasm and that makes it very interesting. He is a great BALA teacher I think you'll enjoy him.
Not the easiest class, but Professor Leventhal is one of the best professors around. He cares about what he teaches, and is very passionate. Take the class in the summer so you only read the Times for a month as opposed to an entire semester.
Why is everyone complaining about the NY Times reading? We had to read like 3 pages, it took about 10-15 minutes, at most, everyday. I was never asleep during these classes, definitely entertaining. Writing assignments are 1 page, so stop whining babi
Classes are interesting and Prof. Leventhal is a great teacher, but you need to put time into the class to do well.
He's not the greatest prof. I've ever had, but he's not bad. He's not very helpful and gives a lot of quizes on the news paper, which gets to be annoying. He loves what he teaches and theres no arguing with him, even though he tells you to. Not a lot of work, but the paper is more than enough.
I recommend Leventhal because frankly I think he's a great teacher. Thought sometimes he's a bit cynical about the world, hes passionate about his teaching. I am glad he makes us read the newspaper because we would never be as informed as we are now. Be opiniated.

I hate this guy, its cool the way he makes us question the credibility of certain news organizations. BUT HIS CLASS IS NOTHING MORE THAN A HATRED FOR PRESIDENT BUSH (YEAH I HATE HIM TOO) BUT IT IS JUST HIM COMPLAINING ALL THE TIME. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU YOU REALLY HATE PRESIDENT BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Passionate and Very Smart.
Don't confuse left-wing ranting with intellect. 90% of class time is spent whining about the Bush administration. No matter how eloquent your writing is, he'll give you a subpar grade if you don't get inside of his head. Take Friedman.
This class is such a waste of time with him. All he talks about is what a moron bush is when he himself is the moron. Spents an hour ranting then 5 min on actual work. Papers are retarted and he is a terrible grader. Take friedman he is the best!
Ok you morons. This is the most meaningful class you will take in QC. I actually learned something about America and people in general in this class that I will use forever, as opposed to the other BS classes at QC. You cant handle him because your too busy watching friends and jerking off.

Lets just say i had a lot more respect for him before i took his class. A complete let down. We all know that the world is corrupt, teach the class material, not your (leventhal) bias. The only good thing i can think of is his passion for the hatred of pres. Bush.
Practically a waste of time. I like that he got us into reading the newspaper cuz I learned a lot with that. However, that's the only positive I can really say. He wastes too much time talking about government and his opinions on stuff. Doesn't focus enough on actual business material.
not so hard but he makes you read the newspaper and gives quizes on them. if you want to take a class on how stupid Bush is, take him. He prbably spoke about Bush's stupidity for 3/4 of the semester. not a bad grader though. got an a- even thought i did so bad on the final and midterm.
Leventhal is an amazing prof. He is so smart, and loved his class! He makes you read the nyt, which is great b/c it only enhances your knowledge! His class was soooo amazing. I learned so much; about business, law, and the government. What he teaches you in one semester, is more then what many people in the U.S. know. I loved his class; Hard final
What a liberal. his grading is beter than expected. he gives pop quizzes on te nyt..so make sure to READ NYT EVERY EVRY DAY!!! He is very intimidating but enjoys teaching. Not only will he teach business... but 'life lessonz' too..take him..good experience...plus hez always willing to help..with academics and interz...**dont take him if u favor bus
bala100 with leventhal was one of the best classes ever. even though he has stubborn liberal views, he listens to what the students have to say and is able to back what he believes. he digresses from lessons because his political views get in the way, but everything he says is useful and tied to current events. take this class if you want to learn.
Interesting Prof. has a lot to say that is on his mind, very liberal. He expects a lot from you, makes you read the NY Times, and makes you write 1 page papers every week. His final is really hard
dont freak out if you do poorly on exams he gives you chances to up your grade. participate he'll like you and you want to be on his good side. veryyyyyyyyyyy liberal, hes a great professor, can get a little picky in assignments but overall very nice guy and helpful READ THE PAPER!!!
Leventhal is the best teacher! He is so educated + well informed and knows how to break things down to his students. He has strict guidelines/essays/ and a hard final. But you will find that leaving that class, you learned so much.
He is by far the most left-winged professor I've met and very opinionated. I loved this class except he emphasized politics more than business. Nonetheless, he's well learned and in the end, you'll learn a lot. I recommend him.
Extremely political and anti-bush, talks about politics in every class. just participate (especially in the poitics discussions) and youll do fine. not so hard, one test, a few writing assignments plus must read NY Times for every class bc he gives pop quizzes. very interesting, learned a lot.
The best teacher I have had queens college so far. He challenges the way you think and he extremely helpful. He will answer any questions you have. He expects alot from his students because he know we can meet his expectations. He is a great teacher.
I felt apprehensive at first, but it turned out to be one of the most interesting and thought-provoking courses I've ever taken in QC. Leventhal is an EXCELLENT professor. The nightly New York Times readings opened my eyes to the real world. He is a brilliant man, very knowledgable and a fair grader. If you work hard, he'll reward you accordingly.

Professor Leventhal is amazing! His class is a real eye-opener and he knows how to keep the class engaged! He is extremely fair and very funny!
Leventhal is the man, all you have to do is read the newspaper and take part in his class discussions. Learn a lot about business world and current politics. His tests are based on his very liberal views, at test time put yourself in his shoes and youre as good as gold.
Too much Bush bashing and I thought I hated Bush. No time spent on the syllabus. Easily distracted by students who ask him political questions just to get him going. I like him but this is not Honors level class. He needs to stop being so political and start being a teacher.
Professor Leventhal is my FAVORITE professor in Queens College history! I miss this class a lot since I walked out learning a lot of new things which helped me in other courses, especially by reading the New York Times daily. He's a great teacher and a good person who really cares for the progress of all his students.
This class is a lot of work. If you attend class, participate, read the newspaper, and complete your writing assignments you'll do fine. The final is on a lot of material, so study hard. He does curve in the end, so don't worry, you can definitely get an A. Have fun.
Great class! Attendance is a must. He gives about 5 essays, not that bad- good grader. You must read parts of the New York Times every day and the quizzes are comprehensive- study the New York Times. If you write ok, study the NYT, listen and speak in class you will do well.
This class is definitely a lot of work, but in the end you can do well. Just make sure to come to class, participate, read the New York Times, and write your papers. The final is very hard, but he curves, and doesn't count it so much towards your final grade. You will learn a lot in the class. Take it in the summer for less NYT reading. Enjoy!
A lot of work, not an easy class! Honestly learned nothing about business but politics. Too much personal opinions and sometimes doesn't even make sense. If you like them you will do great. but if you don't, good luck!
great professor. he requires a lot of work both in assingments and NYT readings, but it all managable if you are willing to put in the time and effort. You will learn a lot and enjoy the class!
awesome professor!
Definitely one of the BEST professors I have come across in queens college. It is true that he is highly on the liberal side, however he is a man filled with enough knowledge and experience, which makes the class very informative and interesting. He is funny, and a fair grader. NYT readings are NOT hard to do at all; so read them and you get a 100.
A great great great professor! Is passionate about what he does. His aim in life is to explain to you why, as an american, you are being spoonfed lies everday of your life. I liked his class I just think he's too cynical for his own good. He needs to give his new, impressionabe students, the benefit of the doubt. They are still young after all.
If you're new to the subject, I suggest you not take him. I don't think he should be teaching a 101 course.
I hated this class, dreaded even coming to it every day. This man doesn't know how to teach and crams everything into the last 5 minutes of the class. class ended at 4:20 and he started teaching at 4:21. such a liberal professor which is disgusting b/c he preaches from the pulpit. Hated this class and i wil NEVER take another class with him again
Are you kidding me? If people think either of his classes are hard, then you must be a freshman or sophmore and not taken many other classes. I wouldn't say his classes are a joke, but attend, open your mouth, agree with him on some things and you have your A+. LOL, far from being hard...
Very interesting professor and his class in enjoyable while he likes you. He plays favorites in class and if he decides to have something against you you are screwed. He likes the power he has and tends to take full advantage of it. While its a shame bc his class is highly educational- you should not risk having a semester from hell- take others
The best thing about Prof. Leventhal is that his heart is really into the subject. Although the business side of the class deff take a back seat to current politics, you leave his class feeling more informed, thanks in large part to the NY Times that he makes you read. If you're willing to participate sometimes and keep an open mind, he's the best.
I honestly never had an interest in politics nor anything that goes on within the government. Levathal has opened my eyes to the world of politics and I cant seem to get enough of it. This guy is so smart and passionate I would vote him president if he ran no joke. He is the change we need for america!
the man
This is my first time rating a professor but I cant keep my mouth shut about this man. The class should be renamed current events because that is all he talks about 90% of the class. He crams vital information about business and what we need to know for tests at the last 5min of class. He plays favorites! He is rude, crass, and unprofessional. Run!
Great guy. Very interesting class. He makes you think. Loved going to class. Recommend highly!
Awesome class. Professor really gets into it and you learn to really look at things differently. He is great to talk to and is always challenging you to thing differently.
Loved the class! The professor is extremely passionate and makes boring concepts seem interesting - would take it again if I could!
the guy probably rates himself bc there is no way he got such great ratings. bitter guy. thinks his way is the right way, and if ur a republican either dont take his class because hell bash you till no end, or dont ever tel him, bc again hell bash you to no end. hell give you one side of concepts/storys to make you think hes always right, stay away
The best thing about Professor Leventhal's classes is that he makes you think. The worst thing about Professor Leventhal's classes is that he makes you think.
He reminds me of my grandpa always ranting about politics. He always talks about the same thing over and over and over.. you think hes trying to brainwash you. Try to take someone else if you can
He does not know how to teach. I spent hours a day doing his work and he adds work on the last minute whenever he feels like it. I don't feel prepared or like I know any more about business than when I entered the class. He only tells his radical and one sided opinions & is disorganized. RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN
If you want to take a class where you are encouraged to think outside the box, learn how to really live in the business world and how to make the world a better place, take him. He's always around to help and truly cares about you-IF YOU PREFER JUST AN EASY CLASS WHERE YOU ARE JUST TAUGHT OUT OF AN "ACADEMIA" NON REAL WORLD TEXTBOOK DON'T TAKE HIM!
This was my third class with Professor Leventha, highly recommend taking him. He is tough and challenges you but if you know how he thinks and read the newspaper you should be fine. Recommend.
I'm currently taking his online Managerial Economics class and it's not super hard. As long as you participate every week in the discussion boards and turn in the case exercises in on time, you should be able to pass the class. The DB questions are actually helpful in understanding the material.
Good teacher but tough. The only problem is that you really gotta keep up with reading the newspaper because he'll surprise you on any random day with a quiz. If you keep up with the newspaper its a very easy class. Its annoying though because he is very liberal he goes on rants about how everything republicans do are wrong and that theyre idiots
If you are a liberal Democrat, you will like him alot. If you are a Republican, stay away from him because he can go on for an entire class about why he thinks Republicans suck. He says some ridiculous/hilarious things in class and creates excitement very well. Read the New York Times every day and your good
I am not happy. Took him for BUS 301 he was of no help. Did not tell us what to study for midterm and final but gave everything on both test. If you want to teach yourself very hard material then I say, take him. Otherwise, if you want pass find someone who gives a lot of notes and direction.
Intro to BALA? i think not. more like into to this guy's one sided view's head. hell never let you express your own opinions, and lord give you mercy if you will, your grades will surely affect his un-interest in your thoughts. he will try to mold you to think the same narrow-minded way as you. STAY AWAY!
rants the entire class time until the end until he trys to squeeze in the course material. BLEEDING liberal and makes sure everyone in the class agrees with his views. STAY AWAY!
Tests are sometimes hard, but he grades MUCH easier at the end. Just make sure to participate, even if you argue. All the bala 100 teachers make you read the NY Times so just check out the front page b4 class. Will meet for office hours if ur having trouble. Check blackboard for HW.
Great teacher for you bleeding hearts, pretty good for you conservatives too. Very knowledgeable.
I am a Republican... Oh the strength it took to shut my mouth every time he spoke... i deserve a medal.
Great teacher- made everything very clear whenever anyone had an issue with the material. Really cares about students doing well. He's also a fair, straight-shooter. Backs up arguments and encourages ppl to disagree-he'll respect any sound rebuttal.
Great professor. Knows his stuff. Moderately difficult though
Attendance is mandatory. Participation is a must. The object of the class is to be "Informed", so if you don't mind reading the New York Times' front page, editorials, front page business day, and selected OP-Ed pieces, you'll do well. There are a total of 2 tests, a midterm and final. Both are tricky, but they have a curve.
love that he makes a class combining politics, economics, and business- with the goal of getting people a little worldly- real straight shooter
The best professor I've ever had. He is inarguably a genius and an inspiring professor. I enjoyed his class thoroughly and he has motivated me to keep myself informed on current events. He is passionate, thoughtful, and ingenious.
He is one of the best professors I have ever had and i learned SO MUCH. Yes, he is a liberal, NO he does not punish you for having different opinions. He is extremly well iformed and anyone who says he is not or talks about how one sided he is is very closed minded.
great professor - hes exactly what we need for todays colleges in a world of reality tv and an uninformed general public. yes, hes liberal - but if you do as much research as he does, you would be too. reading the new york times everyday is quite alot, but its not much to ask considering that theres little else to the class.
Really really really great!!! But only if you're a liberal or not a die hard republican. He's very intense in his political views and the whole class ends up being about politics because you have to read certain parts of the New York Times every day. But the class is SO entertaining, and pretty easy.
This class was okay. While he's entertaining and at times insightful, it's difficult to remember the point he's trying to make because he tends to go on seemingly endless rants. He gives quizzes and homework assignments sporadically. He's a good professor, but you may grow weary of the class toward the end.
If you are not passionate about politics, don't take this professor for this class. He spends 90% of class yelling about how much he hates Republicans and only 10% actually "teaching" the material- his "teaching" is basically rehashing what is in the book while adding nothing. The only reason to attend class is to take the NY Times quizzes.
He is very passionate about business and his classes, but don't let that scare you away. He doesn't want anyone to do poorly, he just wants people to think critically. I think those who didn't are the ones who failed. You have to work for your grade. He is very nice and always willing to help if you struggle. I'd take him again, I learned a lot!
He's okay, very passionate about politics. Reading the NY Times everyday is a MUST! He gives quizzes on them randomly. IF YOU DO NOT READ THEM OR KNOW YOU'RE NOT GOING TO, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. YOU WILL NOT PASS WITHOUT THEM. He goes on rants all the time, cuts you off when speaking or asking a question, but overall very nice. He is understanding
He is a very smart guy and a good professor. Some of his teaching methods are a little too much for college, he tries to control things too much by giving detailed ny times quizzes but he means well he just wants students to do the work. He is probably better off teaching in a HS though. But I would take him again you can learn a lot from him
Usually he speaks more than half of the class about his own political views.
Second semester in a row with him and I'm going back for a third! Read the newspaper, pay attention in class, raise your hand and talk a lot and you'll be totally fine! Really amazing professor and fantastic class!
super liberal. if you can't handle him ranting for more than half the class, don't take him. otherwise, read the paper, do the hw assignments, participate, don't go to the bathroom...you won't get lower than an A-. i got a C on the midterm, spoke to him, he helped, and got an A on the final. he cares about the students, just show him you care too.
Took this guy 20 years ago and still think about it. I was a conservative before I took the class and he totally flipped me. Life changer, for real.
It's like he thinks this is the only class we're taking. No one can read 10 articles in the Times in addition to 5 long articles everyday. We have other classes he needs to stop the crap. Don't take if you don't like being in a dictatorship. He's as bad as the politicians he hates.
If you want to pay a heavy tuition bill to hear about this man's political views then sign up. He talks about very little else. The NY Times readings are very demanding on your time. His loud style of teaching is refreshing but you'll eventually discover that you are not learning much at all.
Extremely political oriented, knows a lot but speaks only about Democrats and Republicans.
The class becomes only about politics, specifically about Republican bashing. He doesn't offer both sides of any political debate, and it becomes even more frustrating when you must do an assignment on things he didn't teach because he was talking about politics that day.
I do not like this man at all. He is rude and opinionated. This is a business class yet 95% of class is him ranting about politics. His exams are hard and..strange. But with that being said, this is the least amount of writing I've ever had to do for a writing intensive class. Only 6 short assignments, literally none of them were more than a page
i absolutely loved this class!! Prof Leventhal is a great prof, he is a fair grader and he gives a curve. Participate a lot!! don't be scared, he won't bite! the only hard part was the NY Times reading but if you can get through that the rest will be a breeze. very enjoyable class. i would def take another class by this prof!
People who want an "easy A" should definitely not take this class. It is evident that Professor Leventhal truly wants you to learn how to critically think; that is the whole point of the class. He is there to teach and he does a great job at it. He definitely taught me how to become more prompt, clear, and to not be gullible.
Presents his points very strongly. However, keeps the class alive and paying attention. Very fair grader. Quizzes can be annoying at times, must always keep up with the NY Times readings. Overall, very fair and interesting.
I Took this professor over 10 yrs ago and still keep in touch with him. He is knowledgeable, caring, and runs a clear and informative class
David Leventhal is an interesting guy. He uses his class as a platform to express his anger at the government. The class is all about his rants. For the tests, you have to think like him to get the questions correct. Overall, I wouldn't recommend if you can take someone else. It just gets tiring to listening to the same rants every class.
This professor is a very strange man. I am not so sure what the point of this course is, other than listening to the professor's opinion on politics. If you are not a liberal (he calls himself a socialist), you better learn to talk like one in order to get on Leventhal's good side. The less you disagree the better.
Greatest class I've ever taken. If you hate liberals and won't be able to sit through rants against Republicans then don't take. Otherwise, hilarious guy who really wants you to do well. NYT reading every day and the pop quizzes on them are kind of annoying, but class is incredible. Got an A on midterm and final by just thinking like a liberal.
This class was not at all what I was expecting. Instead of a practical class on business and liberal arts, I was exposed to twice-weekly political rants by a very angry and empty man. Tests are opinion based - as in, based on David's opinions, and not on actual facts. Huge waste of time. I dropped out of BALA because of him. Don't take him.
This professor is extremely funny and well informed and you disagree with his opinions he will not hold it against you. On the other hand there will be a debate. He does discuss politics a lot but truly intertwines it with the business and economic topics of the class. Lastly, he shows how these topics coincide and the importance of information.
Amazing professor and politician! Knows what he is talking about, makes it very clearly how much of a Liberal he is. Pop quizzes on the NYTimes as the semester goes along, 2 hard exams, and a few HW assignments. Very fair grader and definitely understandable.
So, I heard a lot of bad things about david before i took the class, but honestly don't expect the bad to be true. I really enjoyed his class and his discussions. As long as you participate and study you should be fine. I didn't do well on any of the quizes (based on NYTIMES) and I still got a B in the class because I killed it on the exams.
THE BEST.
Professor Leventhal is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must take him, please please please ignore all the negative reviews. He is so caring and understanding and truly makes you see the world in a new perspective. HE IS A GEM!
D lev us an amazing professor. So many people told me not to take him and alot of his reviews are bad. None of it was true. He cares about his students and it's very easy to pick up what he says in class. The only thing that was true are his liberal rants. You need to read the newspaper it. Participate and show up. Great teacher will take again.
d lev is a socialist. he has such a kind heart once you get to know him. he comes off tough at first but he is so funny. he makes us read the new york times every night, you get used to it.
Professor Leventhal is great. Definetely different from any other professor you'll take. You have to read the NY Times every weekday, plus the op-eds. It is not as bad as it sounds, you will get used to it. He wants his students to do well, put in the effort, which isn't always easy, but you will succeed!
Absolutely inspirational professor! Best teacher I have had within the past three years at Queens College - I would suggest any student to take, at least, this BALA course. He makes you work for the grade, but you learn so much. This professor deserves a podcast!
hes not terrible but im taking him again because i have no choice. EXTREME socialist to the point where he rants more about politics then actually teaches. when he teaches though, he's amazing at what he does.
THE DONALD TRUMP of the Democratic Party, take his class if youre ready to learn about politics and corporate America. Class is halirous. Test are extremely hard, make sure to study and take not.
I would absolutely take him again. He his very charismatic and good at communicating the material we need to know.
only people i recommend to take him are hardcore socialists, cause that's all he rants about (trump and politics). When he does teach for 5 minutes of the class, however, he is a good professor.
I will be honest here. If you are a liberal, yes this is your "heaven" where your social justice warrior beliefs will be further strengthened. You will find it funny and amazing. Oh if you are a conservative, I wish you good luck cuz he will make your existence in the class somewhat miserable. Disclaimer: a lot of swearing in the class.
Great Professor but a hard class. A lot of reading and he gives quizzes to make sure you keep up with the reading. Super political, even though that's not the focus of the class. I enjoyed it but some might not. MUST participate- it's a huge percentage of your grade. If you don't want to participate stay away from his class.
Professor Leventhal is extremely WOKE. He really makes you think about the world around you and helps you break it down in a political , economical, and business prospective (emphasis on the political). Though he is opinionated he always has creditable evidence that backs him up, which is impressive, impacting and I aspire to be that way!
Lectures are extremely entertaining. Half the class is him going off on a hilarious socialist rant. Very funny dude. You have to read the times every day (pushing it till the night before is 2 hours of reading). Has easy pop quizzes on the times, 2 exams mc, a little and easy hw. You have to take the exams thinking the way he thinks.
AMAZING guy. I came into class with no knowledge of social matters & left informed. Looked forward to his class every lecture. Work load is extremely light, except if you leave NY times reading until last minute, don't do it. He's to the left & v passionate about his teaching. Open to convo & won't hold political views against you TAKE HIM!!!
He's both the smartest and funniest professor I've ever had. He gives pop quizzes (which i was never really good at) but it doesn't affect your grade too much. And Participating will really help you out. I looked forward to every class.
Because there is no textbook you MUST go to class. The tests are HARD and more based on what he says than whats on the slides he posts. He wants to see you do well!
Prof Leventhal really cares about his students learning and understanding the concepts. I learned a lot more since he was really involved in the group discussions. He gives amazing feedback and I would be more than happy to take another class with him.
Cares alot about his students and really wants you to pass. There are pop quizzes on the NYT articles he makes you read but they aren't that difficult as long as you read. There's 2 exams and homework. Do your homework or else you wouldn't pass. Nice guy a bit intimidating at first. Goes on a socialist rant at times instead of teaching.
Best professor I've ever had Taken him 3x Poly-sci major but learned more from him in BALA then my whole major combined People complain about reading NYT, its annoying but leaves you extremely WOKE Every class discussion EVERYONE was always engaged Appreciate prof. that actually educate you Never been political but can form my own opinion now, TY!!
Took him twice in 1 semester. Probably going to take all the classes he offers. Without him honestly, I would not have had a glimpse of what's going on in the world. He's fair and is always opened to mini debates. Critical Thinking though I loved best and most. He really does care about the state of the future. I left more informed
Just read the NYT daily and participate. He gives HWs sometimes and gives two tests. The professor might be intimidating at first but really cares about his students passing. Even though I am not a leftist, he does inform you about politics and economics in a different light. I wish I can take more classes with him.
This class is based on New York Times articles and quizzes every week. A little challenging for a 100 class. Participation is needed but you can bring your grade up with assignments and extra credit. He was always available in his office and makes the class interesting with jokes. The class was very informative and interesting.
He is both the best and worst Professor you will ever take. Best because he is very very blunt and will teach out about real world things that is extremely valuable. The worst because he is sooooo tough. You honestly have to invest so much time into this class and by the test you have NO idea what you were supposed to even learn
Literally the hardest class you will take in BALA its ridiculous, he honestly believes everyone thinks like him. Insane. But unfortunately you have no other choice but to take him.
I had him during lockdown. He didn't ease up on workload, but he was extremely understanding & accommodating. To do well, you really have to put in the effort and care about class. He can also be extremely annoying to listen to at times if you don't share his radical political views. It was a very difficult class, but I learnt a LOT.
I was nervous to take his class since everyone spoke badly about him, but i LOVED it. He swings to the left politically and it may be annoying to hear his rants, but he exposed a lot of truth about the world in our classes and he really cares about the world and his country. It's easy to do well just make sure you 100% understand everything!
Professor Leventhal is one of the best professors I have ever had. He evidently cares so much about what he's teaching, and he is passionate about educating the next generation. You will need to read, you will need to participate, and you will need to pay attention, but it's all worth it. This class made me feel so educated.
Despite what other reviews say, yes he's political but he is a nice guy and tries to get to know students which isn't something you see at QC often. If you read the NYT, show up to class, participate, and do your HW you should have no problem at passing. He's not the easiest professor but he really wants students to learn and is passionate.
Really a great guy. Always takes the first 30 minutes or so to talk about current events, engage in debates, and tie it into the day's lesson. Be ready to read the NY Times every weekday; he'll give a quiz every class. Short writing assignments (he gives a line cap that you strictly cannot cross!). By all means, take him if you can!
2 to 4 quizzes every class based on NYT newspaper/articles. Don't be late and miss class. Attendance, participation is a big part of your grades. Midterm and a final based on what he teaches during lectures take good notes and you will be fine. During the semester you might not like him but believe me he's really good makes you work hard for ur GR.
Pop quizzes every class from NY times. A lot of readings from news paper and book. You might not like him at the beginning but he really cares about his students. Don't miss a class or be late. You will be happy with your grade at the end if he sees you trying during the semester. Not easy professor to get an A makes you work hard for your grade.
Lectures are interesting, discussions are amazing, he is clear with what he wants you to do and as long as you participate and stay on top of your material, you should feel confident. I loved Professor Leventhal's classes, I would leave everyday feeling inspired. Definitely would take him again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! He is the worst! Assigns pages of reading and NYT quizzes every class. Quizzes are extremely difficult and only 10 seconds to respond. Tests are extremely hard. He is not accommodating at all. Constantly goes on long political rants and barely gets to the material.
Worst professor I have ever come across in QC. Assigned soo many pages of reading before each class and gave pop quizzes on irrelevant details from the readings that you wouldnt remember unless you read each article a million times (30%). Loves to go on political rants and expects everyone to share his opinion and gets mad if you dont. STAY AWAY!
STAY AWAY!! Horrible professor. 30% of your grade is based on quizzes that require you to read PAGES before each class. Extremely disrespectful as well. Loves to share his political opinion and get angry when students do not agree or share his opinions, making it hard to participate in the class discussions. Participation also worth 30%. DONT TAKE
Stay away from this monster of a human (if you could even call him that). Extremely racist and targeted several kids in my class. Will file a report.
There is lots of reading and quizzes, but they're usually not bad. Class is actually quite entertaining and engaging in person. Don't be late, especially on days that assignments are due.
Don't know why the below comments are saying he's lunatic when he's just providing facts about the GOP stands for these days. Yes, he's a leftist but he wants us to have some idea about our politics based on NYT. Even though I do not agree with some of his political points , I did learn a lot from his lectures and topics we discussed over class.
Overall, I think that he is a decent professor but there is probably a better one if you look, hence the "No" for would I take again. He is so liberal, both in his beliefs and with expressing them, that "brainwashing" could see some argument. Also, you will have to pay attention in lecture as test/quiz answers will often reflect his own beliefs.
He is a nice man, but his class really gave me anxiety to be honest. As much I agree with most of his points, I feel as though he shouldn't share all of them.
Don't listen to the other comments, his class is a real eye opener to real world issues. I personally learned a lot from his class and genuinely enjoyed it. You have to read the NYT daily for his quizzes but its not too crazy, plus you actually learn something out of it which is something I can't say for most of my other classes. Take him!
Good professor but attendance REALLY matters and there are readings that you need to read becuase there are quizzes basically every class. But its a cool, interesting class.
As a proud repulican I say if you want to be brainwashed by communist little prick then this is the perfect class for you, ALSO HE LOOKS BERNIE SANDERS. I was warned youtubers who say how the left tries to brainwash people into believing their BS. STAY AWAY OR REGRET IT!
This man is a crazy liberal tryin to brainwash his students! STAY AWAY! Should be kicked out of college and sent to a physic ward.
he is a tough grader and partial to his students. he always talks about politics in the class and takes quiz every day from newspaper and readings and also keeps record of attendance even if u are later for 1 min ur grades will be after in finals.
honestly, i know that he might seem intimidating, and this is the first time i ever wrote a review for anyone. but i am A HORRIBLE TEST TAKER, and i got a B in the course. I did not pass a singular exam, and only passed tw quizzes overall. but, i made up for it by doing the extra credit, participating, and never being late to class.
Quizzes almost every class, reading NYT articles four days a week, and HW assignments that he doesn't teach you how to do until he is going over them after. Also, if you are a centrist or have even an ounce of conservativism in you, you will walk out of class drained. Constantly uses profanity and name-calls when discussing the republican party.
Took him in the spring. The reviews before mine are correct: he is unapproachable and has tantrums in class. He gets political about everything and yells at students in class. Cameras must be on at all times. DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR CAMERA. He's a tough grader. Many students earned as a low as a D and as high as an A. Some received an F.
interesting class but too much readings to keep up with for pop quizzes that do not include questions from all readings. class was made more difficult than it had to be.
He expects you to read the New York Times every day (Monday through Friday) despite the fact that the class is only two days out of the week. He gives quizzes every class and only allows you 5 seconds to answer each questions via zoom poll. You MUST have your camera on at ALL TIMES. You MUST show your whole face at all times as well. DO NOT TAKE!
His entire class revolved around his opinions and he always thinks he's right and anyone who disagrees is wrong. His class could have been interesting but he really ruined it by making it all about him. He's a really bitter teacher. He's smart and a nice guy sometimes but I really regretted taking his class.
Prof is v adamant about a few things such as being on time. Keep up with readings, you'll do fine on pop quizzes (literally like 3-4 mc qs based on EASY hw readings). Material is rly not tough, some tricky qs on exams, as long as your kept up with readings, you'll be able to participate and do fine, class is mostly discussions. Dont be lazy
Bullies non leftist students, radical liberal, cannot let other people have an opinion, have to read trump bs every day
Tough professor with strict attendance and quiz policies. Lectures heavily politicized and can be confrontational. Avoid if possible, as the class is quite challenging. However, using resources like unstuck ai can help with study prep for the demanding quizzes and exams.
He was awesome!
He is so far left, he can't even see how his views have been used to justify undemocratic societies. This professor is not a good example of an impartial and objective professor. If you want to hear a professor complain about the government in a business class, then this is your guy. Otherwise avoid him. His NYT quizzes are daily.
While he is very political in his class, he cracks many jokes i cant help but to laugh. One of the few professors who doesn't sugar coat and gives you real reality checks about the world outside the classroom. Truly enlightening. RARELY any assignments and if there is it can be done in like 20 minutes tops. Will have to read NY Times a lot though.
If you want to be deaf and have grey hair take this prof! NY times newspaper quiz every class/pop up questions on reading HW. 1 midterm/1final. FYI his multiple choice are choices A-I. Trump this Trump that you will be sick of hearing about Trump. If you're often late or absent many times don't bother taking this prof, he marks your lateness.
Need to take his opinion on politics out of the classroom. The funny thing is, I am a democrat and still found his incessant ranting intolerable.
If you want a professor who always talks about politics and don't want to focus on the lecture then you are in right class. Absolutely insane guy if you want to save your grade, I recommend don't take his class. And save yourself. Absolutely worse.
Hilarious during lectures and is very opinionated but overall is a nice guy. He is a bit harsh but lot of the things he says are jokes. Lot of readings & have to read the nyt every week. Attendance is mandatory with exceptions if you talk to him way beforehand. Pop quizzes are 4 questions but don't make a lot of sense to pay attention on reading.
He should be fired. He takes sides on politics. And thinks that everything he says is correct. Don't evened take this guy or you'll want to drop out. Fire this professor. He disabled my camera and said my camera was off.
